Bogwad, male gnome cleric/illusionist. With Imoen, Jaheira and Minsc.

For 10 long days nobody has arrived to rescue us - better get on with it ourselves then. Before long we have enlisted Yoshimo and escaped, only for Imoen to be arrested together with our captor. Jaheira sells a few items to Ribald Barterman and I stop to think, about who to travel with and what to do.

Geisho the kensai has gone through BG1 again to see if he can successfully dual to kensai this time.

He has managed to survive the dungeon.  He had the Horn of Kazgoroth and used that several times, though not in the mephit portal room.  He had already destroyed the first 3 portals when meeting the radiant mephit and although he was lulled briefly by a colour spray he quickly got up again to finish the job.

Ulvaryl the vampire concentrated too long on the assassins and was chopped down from behind.

The most dangerous moment was an assault on a duergar mage.  I was keen to finish him off before the 3 round duration of the Horn expired, but a flame arrow and several duergar hits caused some punishment before the mage was finally put down.

The exit was blocked by some assassins, but Geisho was in no mood to allow them to stop him.

Here are his stats on dungeon exit.

After a long break I continued Jeriah adventure through Amn.

Update 2: Circus and the Slums

Cleared the circus once again with little issues no surprise there. Picked up Anomen and Nalia said farewell to Jaheira and Minsc. We proceed to head to the gate when waylaid by an ambushed. Killed the underpowered group and collected the loot. Jeriah took the Arbane and Plate Mail. Finally able to reach the gate we talked to a passerby who said there was trouble in Trademeet. Uncertain when I want to head there we ask for the location went on our way. As we head to De'Arnise Keep we got ambush again. We agree to return the ill man to the dock district. Once back in Athkatla we find the man friend. He rushed in while Xzar wishes to ask of our assistence in return he is willing to give up the location of Irenicus. Rather than proceed with his suggestion we finally make it to De'Arnise Keep. At which point we find the resistance camp in the south west corner of the keep. We enter the keep and meet up with the servant who tells us we need to head to the cellars.

To Be Continued....

So far this run has been extremely easy compaired to previous runs. No one ever gotten below 20 hps this time around. Seems Jeriah is carving up enemies faster than they can attack at this point even without haste or IH.

As expected: if fact I’d be surprised by any of the Fighter classes having to many difficulties (group play) before reaching Tob.

p.s. Welcome back.

Bogwad, male gnome cleric/illusionist.

At the Copper Coronet we agree to help Nalia, she joins so Yoshimo leaves. Her spellbook is a mess until I hand over a pile of scrolls and a container. before heading into the circus. This is soon completed (althought two un-attacked werewolves both injure me) and we can head to the de'Arnise keep. Or not.

Jaheira has cast ironskins while I have healed twice, and a good job too. Suna Seni and her slavers find themselves in trouble, facing magic missiles, slow, hold person and holy smite while Jaheira has stabbed a mage with her dagger and Minsc is tidying up with the sword of chaos. Nalia has even found time to cast stoneskin. We can continue to the de'Arnise keep. Or not.

Renfeld is rescued thanks to our use of holy smite, hold person and a nymph hold monster. We return to the docks at 6am, fearful of necksuckers but only having to deal with a mad cleric and encountering an equally mad Xzar. He's in no rush so we can continue to the de'Arnise keep. Finally.

Quote of the day: Nalia: I really don't like this. How are we helping the less fortunate trudging around here. Location is the de'Arnise keep, forging the Flail of Ages +1 so you'd think she'd be a bit more understanding.

At least she has memorised suitable spells for trolls, as have I. I start by polymorphing into a flind with a flaming halberd and apply the finishing touches to two trolls before heading upstairs. A yuan-ti and a large troll prove troublesome, more so when the troll splits into two. Minsc is taking hits left right and centre and has become confused but at least he is attacking the trolls and not me. Before long he is dead and I'm next in line, taking some hits and becoming badly wounded.

I manage to shake off a troll as Jaheira switches from darts to dagger and becomes the target. At one point she is stunned but I cast remove paralysis and she recovers strongly. Nalia and I have used two sets of magic missiles each, two Melf acid arrows and a flame arrow but the trolls are still standing - unlike Jaheira who has seen her ironskins collapse and been unable to retreat.

Nalia has stoneskin so I hide behind her as we drop one troll then the other. We target the yuan-ti but it hits Nalia with a skulltrap. She squeals in pain but I'm too close and in my weakened position the collateral damage is too much for me to survive. Nalia looks at my mangled corpse and decides to head back to the Copper Coronet so another mug can help her XP was 200-240k each.

Hard luck Gate - maybe you should have gone to Trademeet for the belt first.

Geisho has made some progress this morning.  First port of call was running through the circus.  Then, after getting the ring of air control, he went after Pai'Na.  A firebreath potion there provided him with a nice lunch of barbecued spider.

After putting Uncle Lester back in his grave Geisho followed some clues to kidnappers based in the Bridge District.  Kitthix was left on patrol and stopped an escape attempt in its tracks.

Using II before travelling Geisho sprang the Suna Seni ambush and then moved around a bit more until the Renfeld ambush triggered.  He was pretty sure he would kill a mage using kai unless he critically missed - and indeed an attack roll of 2 proved sufficient.  After returning Renfeld attack rolls of 4 also one-shotted Prebek and Sanasha in order to open up the Harper HQ, though Geisho has not gone in yet.

More travelling resulted in an orog ambush.  I was originally intending to use run & shoot here, but Geisho performed better in melee than I expected - as demonstrated by the circle of corpses.

He opened up the Mae'Var quests, though left these for the thief stage.  Also left the Sir Sarles quest incomplete - Kitthix again showing his worth against Neb by preventing him reaching for another potion in his pocket.  Another incomplete quest is the Fallen Paladins.  Lt Aegisfield helped out a bit here as Geisho led them round the bend.

With most of his backpack taken up by potions I thought it was time Geisho paid a visit to Watchers Keep.  This time, as he was starting a long journey, he didn't use his ring in advance so the mage got a chance to prepare even though the ambush was in the city.  His activation of the RoAC was premature and his invisibility was immediately dispelled.  It would have been best to just run at this point, but he used Kitthix to get rid of 3 of the thieves before burning a potion of invulnerability to deal with the mage.

After acquiring a potion case Geisho came back to the city to buy Stonefire and recharge his Horn before heading off to De'Arnise Hold.  Another ambush, but this time his II wasn't wasted and Kitthix's entry to web the mage made the rest of the battle easy.  At the castle the ground floor trolls were quickly cleared.  Kitthix again came in handy against the Yuan-ti mage - his non-magical web attack not being affected by spell turning.  The golems were meleed - except for the big boy (too big for his own good).  Geisho picked up the shield amulet, but left the castle at that point - he can't manage a guaranteed save against umber hulk confusion yet without using potions and he chose not to do that.

UD12;

@Gate70, in my experience dropping a ‘CloudKill’ (wand or spell) into the room from the hallway is the best way to fight that battle because then the Troll can be tanked at the door and (9 times out of 10) the Yuan-ti mage will retreat up to the roof in order to move out of the clouds effect... still 20/ 20 hindsight is a wonderful thing.

My Date with Mr Big:

My group is pretty solid in melee this time so I decided to play towards my strengths... we start the battle with; berserker Warrior & Aerial Servant * buffed with ‘Defensive Harmony’ & ‘Strength of One’... skins all round and a ‘Spell Shield’ for Nalia because she was going to draw him back.

Posted Image  Posted Image  Posted Image

The kick off: Nalia opened the show with ‘Lower Resistance’ then legs it but she is so quick that Mr Big doesn’t follow?  mmm ok, Viconia has the fire shield on but her magic resistance is still a respectable 75 so she moves up to lob a ‘Bolt of Glory’... Mr Big counters with some kind of special SCS Dragon fear Contingency which she can’t save against and Vic spends the rest of the battle bravely running her legs off.

Beginning Rounds: Fortunately Mr Big is after tastier things than Drow so he moves up to engage us in melee with a wind buffet and ‘Dispel’... this catches me left footed ** so he is too near for the ‘Skull Trap’s and I sing my battle song while sending in the fighters,  Jaheira fires a ‘Doom’ but it bounces back so then Nalia tries a ‘Pierce Magic’ followed with another ‘Lower Resistance’.

Middle Rounds: He knocks us back into the corner however his Fire hasn’t got much bite to it & my ‘Skald's song’ is keeping his fear at bay... another round of spells bounces back off again at us but Mazzy, Jaheira  + the Aerial Servant are starting to really hurt him.

Posted Image  Posted Image  Posted Image

Final Rounds: I order Cernd to summon more adds (he is worthless in melee) and we just bash the silly lizard into a thousand gallons of tomato sauce... nothing in nature gets wasted so Jaheira has armour made from his scales which brings her unbuffed Fire resistance up to 125.

* Not much chuff in magic battles but they are bloody brilliant melee fighters.

** I was calling cheap adds to buy time for a fast rescue when he appeared... dolt.

Grond0/Gate70 multiplayer attempt 8 : Pendal (Gate70, protaganist) and Thimble (Grond0).

The Windspear structure is guarded by hobgoblins. A shaman asks Thimble for leniency, something she doesn't show to the next group - killing them before Pendal has looted the corpses of the first group. Pendal cloudkills a group of kamikazee kobolds then a rakshasa is dealt with and Pendal frosts a pair of ogrillions while Thimble melees two more. A vampiric mist gets on the wrong side of melee/mmm's and the area is clear. A few buffs are added before moving on to the next area. Mmm's and a golem help clear hobgoblin archers from a pair of side-chambers and a third set of buffs are used to deal with shadow wraiths, a clay golem and a stone golem. An iron golem hits Pendal hard so a retreat to rest and re-buff is called for.

With proper buffs and haste active the iron golem doesn't last long, and the buffs continue through to the kitchen area where a troll is meleed. More hobgoblins soak up a cloudkill and two fireballs, then an otyugh is meleed. Thimble uses Azuredge on vampires, mummies and ghasts while Pendal tries out greater malison and emotion before joining in. A final area contains more shadow wraiths and melee soon has them removed, a fitting place to read another page of Icewind Dale II.

Bulwark and Salde fight past werebadgers, orcs, leopards and panthers to reach a bridge which is being destroyed by ogres. In the rush to save the bridge Salde stands too close to a pair of orcs and her 8hp slip away so much for saving a ton of spells for the ogres. Bulwark kills everything he can but cannot save the bridge and retreats to get Salde raised by Emma Moonblade. Lord Ulbrec insists the battle must continue a few enemies were undiscovered in the fog of war. On their return more enemies are encountered and as Bulwark moves Salde is targeted again by a werebadger. She moves away and more enemies start to chase her. After a minute or two running and casting a few chromatic orbs she expires again and Bulwark is left to clear up a few more enemies. Once he has fought his way out of a corner he picks up her gear and takes a different exit. Salde is raised again and almost immediately on their return blunders to the front and gets targeted again. This time she has enough luck to stun enemies with chromatic orbs and Bulwark finally becomes the focus. Here is a Verbeeg stunned.

With the bridge destroyed another job is given - locate a pair of scouts. We find one badly injured and give her a healing potion and promise to try and locate the second in a huge encampment. Bulwark is tasked with destroying huge drums before they can be used to have every enemy converge, and Salde with killing trolls, named enemies and casters. The first drum is no problem but a pack of worgs ignore Bulwark and chase Salde forcing a retreat.

A buffed return proves essential as the worgs are waiting. Bulwark is targeted so they can be cleared in relative safety as is an entrance to goblin tunnels. Bulwark is taking damage inside the tunnels while Salde is unable to target a distant shaman. He moves closer after a few spells so she orbs him along with a tough named goblin.

Bulwark is level 6 with 234 kills, Salde level 7 with 168 kills. Her two extended deaths have allowed Bulwark to open an XP and kill gap, and one spell choice (Gedlees Electric Loop) appears to be poor as it has a limited range and she can't risk being in that close.

Pendal Fighter 11 / Illusionist 12. 212 BG1 kills. 227 BG2 kills. Torgal.
Thimble Fighter 11 / Illusionist 12. 196 BG1 kills. 441 BG2 kills. Thaxll'ssillyia.

Geisho, kensai 13.

Having got sick of trolls at the De'Arnise Keep, Geisho thought a change of scenery would be nice.  So he took a trip to Trademeet to deal with some, er, trolls.  The Troll Mound was mainly pretty easy, although despite the help of Kitthix, Geisho did have to retreat once from the trio of giant trolls.  Further on he successfully disposed of Kyland Lin with the help of a potion of speed to chew through ironskins a bit quicker.  He replaced that potion from Adratha's stock before ensuring she would sell to no competitors and Geisho also picked up an improved staff in the process.  A few potions of stone form were also among Geisho's purchases and one of those was used to improve saves in order to get rid of a couple of mushroom colonies safely.  Kitthix proved useful again against Dalok and his crew - this fight also getting Geisho up to level 12 and finally acquiring grand mastery of his staff.

After watching Cernd take about 2 seconds to tear Faldorn apart Geisho returned to Trademeet and attacked Taquee to get the efreeti bottle.  That was slightly more difficult than usual because Taquee was scared by the initial attack and ran, which allowed him time to get a stoneskin up.  However, the Horn protected Geisho from flesh to stone spell and he had a stone form potion ready just in case Taquee showed any signs of casting anything else before he expired.  Geisho went on to deal with the chief genie - the efreeti turning up for the first time to soak up the petrification attack here.  Geisho then took them outside and ran them round (with the help of a speed potion) until the genies' haste spell wore off and he could take them apart with Azuredge at leisure.  Geisho has not reported his success though.

Back in Athkatla Geisho tracked down the Sweeney Todd of the tailoring world.  His hits disappeared rapidly against the bone golem and in this sequence everyone hit virtually simultaneously to put Geisho dangerously low.  However, with the second assassin dead at the same time he was then able to run the golem round at leisure and didn't have to resort to an extra-healing potion (none used in the run so far).  Again he hasn't yet reported in his success.

Next up Geisho decided to try and add an ordinary invisibility ring to his collection.  Kitthix webbed the mage, who never recovered, while the genie dealt with Pooky and Geisho concentrated on Brennan Riesling.  A couple of whacks with the staff sent Brennan running, but Azuredge caught up with him before he could make his escape.  Geisho helped finish off the casters before the potion of speed he had taken allowed him to run round throwing his axe at the melee fighters.

The final target for the day was at Umar Hills, where Geisho got some supplies for some young adventurers, a beljuril for future use and then killed a mimic and an out-of-control golem for a wizard.  On to the ruins and an extensive workout throwing Azuredge - melee would be too dangerous as he has no protection against level drain or hold effects (at least while using Azuredge).  Working his way in gradually Geisho got to the statue untouched and gave only one incorrect answer (not quite up to Gate70's standards, but pretty good by mine).  That gave him level 13 and the opportunity to begin a new incarnation as a thief in the next session.

Geisho kensai 13 / thief 12

Immediately after dualling Geisho went to the graveyard to return a teddy bear.  Before doing that he was accosted by Bodhi, but she declined to make him any offers saying she could not trust "so dedicated a thief" - this to someone with precisely 0 XP as a thiefPosted Image.

Continuing on his XP gathering activities Geisho found a new daughter for a paladin, was thanked by the teddy bear boy's parents, handed in some dodgy illithium to the temple, stole a necklace for Mae'Var, retrieved 'Montaron's' body for Xzar, was showered with rewards in Trademeet and reported his successes against the Fallen Paladins and the skinner murderer.  During that lot Geisho remained at level 1.  There were surprisingly no ambushes during his travels (he was hidden / invisible anyway and would have avoided them), but he was chased round the docks by a bunch of thugs.  That led to a screenshot that amused me when it looked like Xzar had just been backstabbed by a thug.

Finally levelling up took Geisho straight to level 11 with a decent range of thief skills (except stealth).  He then went to the Copper Coronet and used the efreeti and Kitthix to deal with the first group of hobgoblins.  Deciding more summons would be helpful he went to get the berserker horn, using his new thieving skills, and upgraded it.  Interestingly Geisho also found Travin in the Slums.  In my multiplayer games with Gate70 he doesn't appear so it seems the bug for that is not on my machine.  The efreeti helped recover the ring from Borinall and Geisho returned it to the temple.

Back in the inn sewers Geisho searched for the items to recover Lilarcor.  I didn't get quite far enough behind the kobold shaman, which meant he survived both a backstab and a trap, but not a follow-up scorcher from the efreeti.  Geisho went into the slaver HQ invisible and a full complement of summons allowed him to defeat Captain Haegan's guards - the Captain himself left on his own chased Geisho through the sewers before eventually succumbing to the third attempt to backstab him.  Geisho thought he didn't have any means to kill trolls, so wasted some money on the sword of flame before realising he should just have rested and used the efreeti's spells.

The efreeti also helped deal with the mages with the use of a stinking cloud.  One died in the following assault and the second expired as he chased the berserk warrior into some traps set by Geisho to replace the original prismatic spray trap.

Moving on to Trademeet Geisho used his summons to help clear the crypt, though he had to run round for a while against the last skeleton warrior before being able to make his superior weapon speed count.  After a rest Geisho restored Raissa - getting up to level 12 in the process.  He intended to thank the kind folks of Trademeet by robbing them blind, but drank his potions too late in the day and the best merchants had already gone to bed - oh well, another time.

Thanks Corey - so far, so good.

Geisho, kensai 13 / thief 13.

Back in Athkatla Geisho proceeded with the Mae'Var tasks.  First up was dealing with Rayic Gethras:
- the berserk warrior took most of the flack while Geisho helped clean up the mephit rear.
- summons were waiting as Geisho led the stone golems downstairs one at a time.
- the berserk warrior soaked up many of Rayic's spells upstairs. Kitthix continued the process on the floor down, where Rayic was also damaged by traps.  In desperation he tried a fireball, which killed himself (unfortunately depriving Geisho of XP for the kill).

Next Geisho recovered some documents from Marcus by threatening him (rather oddly this uses a charisma check rather than strength).  While there he also cleared a pirate holdout - the summons doing the work on the fodder and leaving the way clear for a successful backstab on the mage (that meant the back-up traps were not required).  After dealing with Embarl Geisho secured the proof of Mae'Var's double dealing, but won't expose him until he's got his kensai abilities back.

I've been missing the use of missile weapons so thought I would have a try at getting Captain Dennis' throwing dagger.  The initial aim was to scout out the best way to attack while invisible, but they seemed to be scripted to detect invisible so Geisho immediately ran.  The mercenaries chased after him, Captain Dennis appearing momentarily on this balcony - which I suspect means he's unfortunately gone for good as there's no player access to the upper floor of that building.  Geisho did deal with 3 of the remaining mercenaries, though another 2 as well as Dennis seemed to have disappeared.

I decided it was time to put Nalia's fears to rest and Geisho returned to the De'Arnise Hold.  I was hoping to do the umber hulks without using a potion of clarity (mainly using summons to drag them into traps), but Geisho's stealth failed at the wrong point and he had to quickly gulp.  Against Torgal Geisho's traps did most of the work to put him down.  His magic resistance protected against an acid arrow, but the efreeti's follow-up flame arrow did the trick.  A scorcher dealt with the first giant troll, but the efreeti disappeared before the second was put down.  However, one of the things Geisho did steal from Trademeet was a necklace of missiles with 2 charges - a few backstabs later, it only had one.  Reporting back to Nalia got Geisho to level 13, though in retrospect perhaps I should have waited to do this as I would have preferred the fighter stronghold to the thief one.

Back in the city Geisho dived into the temple sewers and helped Roger out with a trollish problem.  Moving on he sent Keldorn on his way and investigated tunnels far enough to find a lich, though he retreated from some vampiric mists on the way and rested to get summons back to deal with them.  After talking to Kangaxx Geisho sought out the lich in the Bridge District.  He survived some initial trap damage, forcing Geisho to use a protection from undead scroll, but died to the second round of trap damage.  Geisho quickly moved on to the lich in the sewers and, as SCS is not included in this install, the protection from undead scroll allowed him to beat it up with the recently purchased staff of Rhynn.  Continuing on a roll he went straight to Kangaxx.  His scroll ran out while attacking the demi-lich form, but I was watching closely and a replacement went up before Kangaxx could cast anything.  However, damage caused was barely faster than Kangaxx was regenerating and I wasn't confident of killing him before the second scroll ran out so left him for now and went to kill the City Gates lich instead.  Geisho needed to use a potion of perception to get in there (he normally tops up his open locks skill with DUHM, but was out of those for the day), but once in the lich was shortly history.

Geisho has now arrived at the Windspear Hills and beaten off the initial ambush.  He will shortly recover his kensai abilities when he returns some acorns.

Well done with the statue answers Grond0, I don't remember them well so plenty of opportunity to get them wrong in future. I used to have this issue in Durlags Tower too but got those options remembered after only a decade or so.

As to the Travin bug I've just tried sending Pendal/Thimble there and he was there - although I had to endure a constant movie pause/unpause until entering the Copper Coronet. So yes something wrong with either my install or the save game & will build another one.

Well done with getting the kensai and thief so far, hope you get similar success with kensai/thief. I had another stalker started yesterday thinking it would be a similar vein; but after an amazon confusion then killing three of them the fourth managed to hold him while still confused.More effort required...

Edit & the new install still has the same issue. I thought it might be the save game but after searching for repeating movie found this was an issue with the unpatched version of BG1 - possibly the same issue as the global variables bug. Then I found it worked fine if I ran bgmain.exe instead of baldur.exe.

www.planetbaldursgate.com/bg/media/files/patches/SpawningBugFix.txt
"Note: Some people at the Tales official message board have mentioned finding a worrisome bug where NPC's would spawn in over and over, or movies would repeat over and over, or subquests would not be recognized as being complete, which had never been encountered before in QA testing. We got some save games from these people which allowed us to identify and fix the bug in question over the weekend here at BioWare."

Interesting Gate70.  Best of luck with your new stalker - hope they are not distracted by the feeling that someone is looking over their shoulder!

Mini-update for Geisho kensai 13 / thief 14

Geisho duly sneaked over to return some acorns and got up to thief level 14, thus reactivating his kensai abilities - improving his standard THAC0 by a whopping 15!

He then immediately put his next stepping stone to godhood into place by using the rod of terror on groups of orcs, goblins and hobgoblins.  That soon gave him a nice shiny charisma of 25.  Next up was to get the Ring of Gaxx to replace the Claw of Kazgoroth and get a nice balanced feel to his stats.  I decided to take no risks here and got another protection from undead scroll from Galoomph.  With 5/2 attacks, hitting with a 2 and standard damage of 3 rather than 2 it only took about a turn to get Kangaxx to near death.  He made a bit of a fight of it at that point by running away in panic, but whenever he changed direction he got another clout with the staff and that eventually proved too much for him.

With the Ring of Gaxx in hand Geisho had his Claw surgically removed at a temple and then quickly cleared out the above-ground tombs in the graveyard while his scroll was still active.

As one of the (many) ways I find to die is getting careless when I've been playing too much, I'll probably leave the game there for a day or two to keep me hungry.

The way that I usually do it is for Nalia to cast web first. Then wand of fire/fireballs.

That is what I did today with Angus who has finally made it into BG2 and Nalia.

Angus the Aasimar Cavalier decided not to do the Grey Clan Episode or The Drizzt Saga as he was already at the experience cap and his stats were already ridiculously high.

The extra 2 points in intelligence would have been too much as he already had:
Str 19, Dex 19, Con 20, Int 18, Wis 21, Cha 18.

He dealt with the circus problem and freed a few slaves before heading for the D'Arnise Stronghold.

The battles were straightforward until he realised that he had forotten to buy Cloudkill for Nalia. She usually has it memorised already, but because of Level 1 NPCs she didn't!  Posted Image

However, being a Cavalier, he thought that he could take on the Umber Hulks single-handed. He could, but then discovered his mistake. When he put out the dog food he didn't get the experience. Posted Image

Never mind. I now know what happens if you do that!

He then took on Tor Gal, shutting the door after being chased by him just in case his cronies turned up. He healed himself and took on the remaining trolls.

Returned to the big city to help out the temples. He was joined by Saerileth and Keldorn.

That is for role playing reasons. he didn't want his party members doing anything that he wouldn't do himself.

He has bought the shield of cheese for Saerileth.

The only thing that is different is that he has bought a picture of Yvette. What will come of it, I do not know!

Alyssa v. Firkraag (Or No Justice, Only Chaos)

Firkraag's defining characteristic is his lack of Wisdom. This tragic flaw typically gets him killed in the sense that he likely would have never tangled with the PC were he wiser. Nonetheless, I've recently found myself wishing it would get him killed in a more literal sense: wisdom drained to death with Kachiko's- the “poetic justice” kill.

Kachiko's drains two points of Wisdom for 12 seconds on a failed Save v Death. With Firkraag's wisdom of 3, two failed saves within two rounds should kill him. The trick of course, is connecting consistently and then getting him to fail his save twice within that time frame. With a respectable APR, Malison, and the ability to stop time, Alyssa seemed to have what it would take to pull it off. I let her give it a try.

The Plan

Buff thoroughly (including SI:A + SI:D + Spell Shield lock in). Set two Time Traps outside of Firkraag's sight range. Approach with Chain: Pierce Shield->Breach->Malison and Contingency: ProMW at the ready. Say “Hi!”, then start casting Time Stop. The Chain will insure Firkraag will be stripped and Malisoned for the Time Stop. Once time freezes, go to work under IH with Kachiko's in the Main and Kundane in the offhand. If Firkraag saves, step back, let him trip the Time Traps, and then try again- bearing in mind that a Breach cast from book may be needed before stepping back if he quick casts ProMW after the TS.

Execution

The battle went according to plan. Almost that is...

The approach.

Success! Or...Wait a minute...Isn't that the Chaos Blade in the main hand? And isn't there a tripped Time Trap behind Alyssa? Yuppers. There was no justice for Firkraag: only Chaos. Somehow he evaded death by Kachiko's.

Checking the battle record on the way out the door, he was simply fortunate in his first set of rolls.

It appears he should have died in the second set however. There were 4 hits without saves. Even if 2 were from Kundane, it seems he should have dropped.

Noting that something was apparently amiss was what led Alyssa to swap Kachiko’s for Chaos heading into the second time stoppage (the Chaos Blade will reliably drop him within 2 rounds).

Anyhoo. Alyssa will head to Suldanesselar relatively soon. Current character record.

Nice approach with Firky, Alesia!   I wish I could look on his face being perished that way...

I'm ready to resume/continue my adventures and will post of them soon. Loads of events happened here so it took a while for me to read them all.

Keep it up, everyone! :)

Thanks. I was pretty bummed that Kachiko's didn't get him: Dex draining him to death with the Chaos Blade is only slightly more sporting than eating his brain I'm afraid (though there is a certain minimal elegance to it). A Kachiko's kill would have been worth far more style points.  :(

Glad to see you back in action. I hope you enjoyed your vacation!

@Alesia_BH... so:
he fired an SCS fear at you but you saved against it?
or
he didn't fire any special SCS fear?

Just makes a minor difference on my next run is all.

Firkraag used the version of Dragon Fear present in the SCS-II v.15 (last pre-Tobex) Smarter Dragons component. It offers a save at -4.

Alyssa would have made the save, but she also took fear immunity via the Level 2 spell Resist Fear.

Final update for Geisho kensai 13 / thief 17

Geisho finished off the Umar Hills (except the dragon).  His next major encounter was the Planar Sphere.  After dealing with the 'halflings', beholder and Lavok he came a cropper against a couple of spore colonies.

That was the result of:
1) getting a bit bored and not bothering to buff.
2) missing the first spore with a critical miss backstab.
3) swapping to dual wield and then wondering why the colony didn't die (afterwards I concluded that the default weapon chosen for dual wielding was Geisho's fist!).

A major factor underlying the careless approach to that fight was also that I had resorted to the console to build the golem, when it claimed I hadn't given it the golem arm.  I'm 99% sure it took that when I first clicked on the mechanism and had searched everywhere to make sure I hadn't dropped or stored it.  However, even assuming that was a bug I never feel happy about making such adjustments and was unsure whether I should be continuing anyway.

Even though it had a somewhat ignominious end that run did at least fulfil my primary objective of using kensai abilities in backstabs.  Towards the end when Geisho was dual wielding Stonefire and Belm at 9 APR (with Gaxx haste) he tore through opponents nicely, though the need for micro-management to keep him safe was a bit timesome.

Isn't the arm back at the start... room across from the map?
