Gate70 and I started games in BG1 using the same beginning random character - a half-orc assassin.  My version, Ganger, was written about as the primary character who sometimes wondered how his life would have progressed if he had made different decisions (those being demonstrated by Gate70's character, Trug).  This is their first post in BG2.

Ganger, assassin 11

Ganger noticed immediately that things were not going to be easy in the dungeon when he struggled to overcome the lightning mephit.  All his skill points in BG1 had gone on stealth, which has made that passable, but by no means reliable yet even in dungeon environments.  His find traps and open locks skills rarely work even with the use of DUHM, so he was strong-arming things (DUHM getting strength up to 19 and constitution to 17) in order to progress.

The first group of goblins posed a bit of a challenge, but picking up a shortbow allowed him to use stealth attacks with poisoned arrows which dealt with a lot of the opposition.  One significant exception was the golems and Ganger had to work hard against them to find space to re-stealth for repeated attacks.  In the portal room he dragged all the mephits to one end and then sneaked to the other.  After surprisingly finding that the portals could be poisoned it took next to no time to clear the lot with arrows.

Talking to the dryads got him to level 11 and he put his miserly 15 skill points into find traps to try and get that up to a workable level over time.

A number of traps seemed dangerous to a character with basic 40 HPs.  More than once he would have been killed by traps but for the extra HPs given by DUHM.

The only thing he didn't manage to kill was the doppleganger, which got caught behind the door somehow.   Ganger could feel it (had to detour round space when moving), but couldn't see it from any location.  Ulvaryl the vampire can be difficult for solo characters to kill before she goes gaseous, but a backstab / firebreath combination did the trick here.  I thought Ganger might be in trouble at the last encounter when her backstab was a critical miss, but poisoned arrows successfully prevented the assassin caster from completing any spells.

After the dungeon Ganger expected the circus to be simple, but it was actually quite difficult.  Having already shown his poor offense and defense against shadows Ganger thought it would be nice to have backstabs available in the final fight so led werewolves down to the bottom level to leave the middle bit available for hiding.  That is clearly not my normal tactic as I didn't remember this .  It's a point of principle with me to kill all the shadows before finishing the circus and I was also trying to avoid using any healing potions.  However, I did start to wonder whether I would have to compromise this time.  Even after the shadows were both dead from run and hit tactics there was still a little wrinkle as the werewolf hits began to do damage.  However, a final hit just after Kalah was killed still left Ganger with a small safety HP margin.

Trug: Assassin 9 (Gate70)
I am stuck in a cage and contemplate my life to date. What if I had not used magical tomes to increase my strength, dexterity, constitution and charisma? I guess I'd still be stuck here anyway.

Imoen giggles as she unpicks the lock while looking the other way and talking - how annoying that her thievery skills are beyond my meagre efforts. I have to explain for the first time since Candlekeep that my skills are more deadly and I have little interest for searching out baubles. She calls ME a bauble as I struggle with another lock (can't detect or open the pantaloon / dagger +1 painting) and flounces off with Minsc and Jaheira so I'm on my own again. I grab a katana instead and vow to return for my pantaloons later. I can't even tear the painting from the wall (yes, I tried for several minutes).

The first few enemies make me realise how much I have been relying on my equipment. A group of goblins fall in a sequence of backstabs but by the time we're done I am standing by the accursed cage once more. Similar experiences are repeated with other groups of enemies until I rest and a voice in the back of my head mentions the "other bloke" is already out of this stinking place and gone to the circus 60fps Grondo? What other bloke? I look around, half expecting Imoen to be there playing another trick on me.

This is not good, and the tricks playing on my mind see me try to backstab a fidgety Duergar mage. Stand still. He fiddles so much I don't even get to attack and have to run, almost dying. Ilyich has taken two poisoned arrows though and they are spread out so I mount a clean-up opertation. Several chunky backstabs sort them out and I shut my mind to the voices. The last two duergar are near a cambion so I kill them and decide not to release it as I've read that hide in shadows is useless against such a foe. I move back to search for a large trap and accidentally tread on it. Poof, I've gone and all that remains is the strange voice.

This death  is bad news - particularly for Trug, but not great for Ganger eitherPosted Image.   What's a Ganger to do without his Dopple?

Maybe you guys should have compromised - use Imoen for Irenicus Dungeon, then solo once in the City.

@Gate70: You CAN avoid that trap, I have done so with many of my parties without theives many times. Just hug the left wall until the end of the hall way. Ignore me if you already knew this.

Another alternative is Gate70 can continue his run in the minimal reload thread, but Grond0 can still "compare notes" as it were, just as he is now, just specifying what's he's doing.

@Grond0- Thanks. Alyssa is still mad at me for wasting her scrolls but I'm glad you're pleased. :P

@Corey- Thanks. :)

Of the original battles with the 5, Sendai was arguably the best written. When David Gaider went back and re-worked the 5 for the Tougher Battle series he left Sendai (and Sendai only) alone since he thought she was "interesting enough" to begin with. That was a reasonable decision, but without additional mods, Sendai ends up being a weak link compared to the others. That's one of the reasons Oversight included a Tougher Sendai component: to put her back on par with the others in Ascension/Tougher Battle series installs. Oversight did do a nice job of that (even surpassing them noticeably on Insane) but that battle is pretty glitchy in my experience which is why I haven't used it in years.

I'm not really sure what to do with Sendai in my install at this point. The SCS script with full pre-buffs and Improved Fiends helps her considerably (putting her in between Yaga and Abazgial, closer to Yaga), but I'd still like to see a bit more from her (If Improved Anvil Sendai is a 10 and Oversight Sendai on Insane a 9 difficulty wise, then the one in my current install is a 3 at best) The SCS tactical component one seems like a nice option however, it's problematic for solo thieves since the statues activate each round irrespective of whether the prior one has died and are immune to backstabs meaning a solo thief could easily end up fighting all the statues and Sendai at the same time. Were I playing with parties, I'd definitely use it but playing solo, I'm afraid it would restrict my class choice.

Anyhoo. I do intend to rework my install in the not too distant future and Sendai is a potential target for tweaking. I'll likely go with the SCS Tactical Component version but we'll see. I hope you get to try that fight soon!

Edit: Sorry to hear about Trug. :(

I remember Picenon's battle with her...what an epic battle. She was spamming summons, including skeletal warriors at one point. Picenon resorted to spamming the shambling mound from the +4 quarterstaff you get from Rilifane to balance it out. Even so, her spells did massive damage to him (he WOULD have been dead with the RoR), and with her considerable melee protections, he even had to spam his cloudkill wand too. Battle lasted like 15-20 min. real time. Physically, was really tense during all of this, thought for sure I was finished here.

Anyways, guess I am saying, for me, at least, Sendai is plenty interesting and definitely a challenge. She's chunked party member too number of times in my party play-throughs.

Understood. Sendai is fun: I agree. And I'm glad Picenon triumphed!

Ultimately, I'm just saying that the other flavors of Sendai are interesting too. I hope you enjoy them as well.

Best,

A.

Quick Note on Alyssa's Game:

Alyssa has acquired a new item.
Posted Image

I'm not entirely pleased with how she got it however since she clearly benefitted from a bugged Spell Shield. It apparently foiled a Wish: I Wish for My Enemies Magical Defenses to Be Utterly Destroyed and also a Spellstrike without being dispelled. This likely didn't make a difference, in the battle but it bothers me a bit.

Anyhoo. I'm considering having her redo the battle. Not sure. I'll post if and when I decide.

Best,

A.

Congrats for taking down Draconis Alesia, OR good luck in your rematch! Whichever it ends up being...And definitely good luck for Abazigal, I don't think anyone's particularly interested in seeing you die there again...and it would be nice if a no-reloader took down Melissan, she's been sitting pretty safe for a while now...

Imoen releases me and insists I free Minsc and Jaheira. Then she makes me retrieve a magical dagger for her which is wrapped in my golden pantaloons. She tut-tuts as the poison courses through my body and having been unable to cure my wounds or slow the poison I resort to glugging a healing potion. After I've equipped everybody they decide I am too badly wounded and promise to clear the way out for me. As they leave Imoen hands me a spare bag of holding - I wasn't expecting that.

A little later I decide to help but there is no sign of them. I search everywhere, even killing two lesser clay golems, a bunch of mephits guarding the sword of chaos and a constrained cambion. Yoshimo looks the capable sort so I chuck him a potion of thievery and ask him to find the other three before they run into something nasty.

The mephit portals nearby are relatively easy - shut down the first one and retreat to kill the second summon. Shut down the second portal and run from the radiant mephit before it gets too close - luckily my hide works and I return to shut down the fourth portal but the mephit is returning. I run to a corner and save against the effect as the failing portal banishes the radiant mephit. The third portal is quickly shut down.

I make sure a salt mephit is stunned (resulting in monk : 9) and clear a few more goblins and duergar. Ulvaryl is badly wounded but flaps away leaving me to finish a mage off. Frennedan is stunned three times by one use of my stunning blow (5/2 APR now) and my initial impressoion of a clever assassin mage casting haste turns to laughter when he follows this by protecting himself from normal missiles whilst my foot is in his face. I emerge into daylight and immediately faceplant as Imoen slams magic missiles past me towards Irenicus. Both are arrested for the illegal use of magic so it looks like I still have a debt to pay Imoen.

I step into the Adventurers Mart where Ribald is casting a true sight spell. I forgot I was in the shadows didn't realise he did this and he suggests I go to the circus if I want to play at shadows. I do as he says, finding to my joy that my fists can hit these shadows (level 9 fists are +1) and stow the dagger I had intended using. Aerie is soon back in her normal form so I tell her to wait where she is. Quayle is rescued from Kalah a minute or two later and the circus is returned to normal. I head to the slums next and Gaelan Bayle proffers a deal - although I hear he is offering it to a half orc assassin too so I'd better be quick.

I put Hendak in charge of the Copper Coronet while I investigate the slaver compound. One hobgoblin shaman is killed but a second casts hold and even though I am running it is catching me before I can reach the shadows. I save (rolled 13, save is 8), hide and return but that felt uncomfortable.

I grab a spare hand, a ring and a staff before a carrion crawler stun. A bit of blood from a second one sees me bagging Lilacor up. Haegan waits while I stun his cleric and eliminate everybody else then I rest before returning to stun him. I almost walk in on a pair of trolls before remembering I have no matches on me. Instead I move on to the next set of slavers, carefully avoiding the hanging acid trap near the base of the stairs.

I have killed the taller spellcaster and am running away when I see hold person being cast. I almost make it down a staircase before I save against being held. As I grin I blunder under the hanging acid trap - yes the acid trap mentioned before (have seen this do 81 damage in multiplayer so lucky to be alive). I heal up using spells and return to strike a couple more times. One slaver is standing in the prismatic trap spray and dies when I trigger it. The short slaver wizard has stoneskins so I knock a couple down and run, then he steps on the trap but survives. He's summoned a kobold that has chased me but I punch it to the floor and sneak back. No sign of the wizard even when I come out to play, so instead I grab the tail of a yuan-ti and turn it inside out.

I fall foul of a poison trap on the stairs then find a guard and second yuan-ti. Two backstabs later they are joined by shorty-mage so I decide to glug some healing potions. My first hit bounces off stoneskin and he adds mirror images so I wait until they expire. Another bounce and I have to save against horror. A third bounce and a chromatic orb. Finally he draws his quarterstaff so I kill the final guard then pound the mage until his stoneskins wear down. He has another stoneskin but that doesn't last long and he panics so I hide - please don't go up the trapped stairs. He stops so I chunk him and do the same for the yuan-ti. A final guard outside is dealt with then I return to the Copper Coronet where I purchase a flame blade.

The trolls are ignoring my stunning blows despite not saving. I can hit quickly enough to knock them down though and dropping the flame blade onto them is a surefire way of finishing them. Hendak is pleased with this, and I celebrate by buying the Sling of Seeking for emergencies.

Enough for today - job for next time is to stop relying on saving throws and luck which will mean a bit of shopping and prioritising jobs.

@Gate70: 1 ore more rings of air control could have been helpful. -4 penalty on melee hits on you, +4 to saves and you can't be targeted by spells for 10 rounds. I don't think the mages or cleric dispel illusions, that could have helped out quite a bit. The Arbane can help with hold protection for a monk, but it messes up with the a monk's APR so much, I can see why that would be a last resort.

Noted: I grab a ring of air control from the Adventurers Mart. Then I chunk-spread Uncle Lester's ashes for Nevin on the way to help Tirdir. Sethle points me to the bridge district but Suna Seni arrives to hand over the Arbane shortsword. Once at the bridge distict I chase Am-Si and kill Reti for the boots of avoidance (hid to attack a hostile Camitis and he ran off so only killed one of the two). Kitthix and the pale green ioun stone are taken from Pai'Na's grasp - at the expense of a dozen or so potions. That's 5 of the most important items I need.

Roger the Fence and a rashaka are encountered in the temple district sewers before I diary tasks for High Watcher Oisig, Guardian Telwyn and Sir Ryan Trawl. In the government district more tasks are noted for Tolgerias and Delon. Sir Sarles and his illithium sounds achievable but first I have to get Renfeld to the docks. A mad cleric tries to stop me but to no avail, and I add more appointments with Renal Bloodscalp, Mae'var, Rylock and Xzar. I have a pile of cash so decide to pay Gaelan Bayle while I remember.

Orog slavers try to take my remaining 9000gp cash but the Sling of Seeking sorts them out (one critical did 34 damage with normal bullets, even non-proficient this is a good weapon for a monk). Jerlia the ore merchant makes two deals with me before I speak to Unger Hilldark, take care of Rindus for Reynald de'Chatillon and speak to Ramphah/Bel Delmark/Rose Bouquet about the skinner murders. I hand in Neb's head to Chief Inspector Brega and give Sir Sarles the fake illithium before reporting back to Telwyn. Dawnbinger Sain has another job but it requires work at night so instead I head to the docks.

Aran Linvail hands me the Amulet of Power which can't be used, I thought the fixpack might allow it but can understand why not as monks have innate casting. This is problematic so instead I deal with Prebek and Sanasha, stunning both despite their buffs (I hit him from the shadows but his dialogue and stoneskin both worked even when stunned). I quickly kill the goblins and use both remaining stunning abilities to keep the mages still. Sanasha is chunked with the third use and Prebek chunked before he can recover. Rylock has to let me in the Harper HQ so I can retrieve "Monty" and observe the assassination of Xzar. The Ships Bounty pirates require slinging, then I search out Mae'var who wants me to steal an amulet from the Weathermistress of Talos.

I will need magic bullets to fight vampires to avoid level drain, hoping a weapon proficiency (sling) can be selected soon too. Risks today - zero. Much better.

After threatening Travin and killing Borinall I return a ring to Dawnbringer Sain and purchase a pair of protection from undead scrolls as a precaution. The Weathermistress doesn't hear or see her amulet being pilfered, meaning Mae'var can introduce me to Edwin. But first I must test my thieving skills.

Sansuki needs my help and I am confident - until a vampire doubles back to attack him. Trying to keep three of them away from him is leaving me vulnerable and eventually I have to run as he is killed. 750gp at a temple sees me restored and I rest before returning to the docks the next night. Salia is there but runs away, and after killing the two thieves with her I run into Parisa and Del. Gulp. I start to fight and eventually isolate a lone vampire, but it drains me twice before I finally kill it as my hiding is countered by his regeneration. Another 750gp restoration is purchased.

So much for plan a, I am too slow with the sling and it leaves me open to level drain. Plan b will be melee plus protection from undead. I have a plan (but it may also be flawed).

I shop at the Adventurers Mart, with Roger and one or two other places until I have what I need. I need to talk to one person before activating my plan so kill four ettercaps, half a dozen or so shadows and sneak through a gas chamber to speak to Gaal. As I sneak back the chamber slams shut and I turn a wheel to open it but two vampiric mists have trapped me. I feared as much so glug a potion of defence then a potion of mind focusing. They die fairly quickly but I have been level drained (only from 11 to 10 this time) again so return to a temple. Then I rest until nightfall, head to the city gates, fob Flydian off by saying I will look into his Trademeet troubles and start my plan by using a protection from magic scroll and a potion of cloud giant strength. It's a bad start as I can't bash the secret door open, so I cast a DUHM which I wanted to save for later.

Night of the undead
The city gate lich can't stop me grabbing Daystar, and I move away as a pit fiend is summoned and hits me twice. The lich has wounded the pit fiend so I step outside, take a deep breath and return while glugging minor healing potions. The lich is mazing the pit fiend so I attack with Daystar and eventually do the job to finish the City Gate Lich. As a result of this fight I work out how to use longswords (THACO with Daystar drops by 7 from 4 to -3). I could move on to the next stage of my plan but it seems prudent to deal with a few more liches instead.

I sneak past muggers in the bridge district, allow a brief detour to grab a horn of Valhalla then force a trapped door leading to an Elemental Lich. I hit it once before it casts Timestop and a series of spells. Another pit fiend has been summoned and again I step outside for a second or two and return. No sign of the pit fiend at the moment so I start on the lich. It summons an efreeti but I kill the Elemental lich, grab the golden bones and leave without attacking the efreeti - too many other jobs to do. The pit fiend is upstairs and hits me as I leave - again I'm on a schedule so can't stop.

I suspect I will be level-drained as I approach the Shade Lich but Sassar yells for me to hug the wall and I avoid whatever the trap is. This time I am treated to a mislead and timestop, chaos, stun, fear, dispel, wail of the banshee, sunfire, silence and two mazes. I finally have the misled image beaten down and set about the lich only to see a repeat of all the above with a Finger of Death added. The second mislead vanishes as a prismatic spray is cast. Protection from Magic Weapons means I cannot disrupt a flesh to stone, disintigrate or domination but my protective scroll is still active. A change to melee sees me hit once before I land two final hits on the Shade Lich.

So far so good but my buffs expire as I reach the docks so I use a second of each to force a door open without getting level drained. I sneak past three minotaurs and on to Kangaxx. He removes my strength buff but the protection from magic remains and I disrupt four or five spells in a row until his contingencies summon a mislead. I hit him again and again - eventually realising he is toying with me (bugged) so I step back and sure enough he immediately vents his rage at me and becomes a demi-lich.

I try a sunray but there is no effect (my protective scroll seems to have stopped it) so I hit again with Daystar. One demi-lich howl and twelve imprisonments later he is gone. The first part of my plan has worked almost perfectly (I'd hoped to use 1 PfM scroll but the timing was better than it expiring while fighting either Kangaxx form). I now need to consider whether protection from undead scrolls will allow me to deal with vampires in melee without them fighting back or if I should buff with potions of defence and mind focusing - open to suggestions here as I normally have access to NPP or thowing Azuredge.

Best of luck with these two. In party play, I'd use both but I've skipped them in my solo run install.

Just noticed this... is there anything simple I can do, or do you just think these aren't suited to solo play?

Undead scrolls are very useful for solo players. Umar Hills Temple, Spellhold, and Unseeing Eye undead groups come to mind. High AC is effective to minimize level drains, just keep a few scrolls of restoration handy in case the vamps get a lucky hit. Don't forget with the tougher vamp fights you can use improved invisibility via ring to make yourself harder to be hit.

Yes, now got to go find a supply of restorations. Tested it out and decided I wouldn't use the Undead scrolls. Result is below. Edit & II ring only seems to help with saving throws not armour class - potions of defence heading the same way as the monk bonus notches up.

Grunn, LN human male monk
With PfM active I head to the graveyard and deal with the Crypt King - mistake as he is melee only and injures me until Kitthix webs him. I head to the de'Arnise hold but after killing two trolls decide to come back later (could have persevered but any groups of trolls would be hard work).

Rayic Gethras successfully deals with a berserk warrior, but Kitthix and I overwhelm him. Edwin isn't satisfied though, wanting some documents from Marcus who in turn tells me to get lost. He's had his chance so I snap his neck and catch the documents as he collapses. Embarl is more open to suggestion and hands over his dagger without a fight so my work for Mae'var is done. I'll hold onto the evidence as I may want to shop in the guild later.

Mook is murdered but between the berserk warrior, Kitthix and myself we sort Lassal out. Jaelos, Caehan and (edit - Gracen) are no trouble in my buffed state (although my natural abilities are now quite close to the buffed state). Aran Linvail wants me to investigate the vampire lair and I reluctantly agree to have a quick look. Haz dies as I arrive so I kill two grimwarders while the golem kills a third and badly wounds a fourth for me to finish. I check my fist out against Gellal and decide it is a better option than Daystar. Then I kill a greater ghoul and fledgling vampire followed by a clay golem. Another fledgling vampire and greater ghoul are next before I sneak up on Durst and stun him at the third attempt.

My buffs have expires as I spot a fledgling vampire from the shadows. Tanova casts true sight twice as I keep my distance in a game of cat and mouse, and the fledgling has moved behind her so I can't pick it off. Once these are gone the mouse shines through incinerating both the cat and the fledgling. With my buffs gone I may as well rest before continuing. I step downstairs and take a greater ghoul hit made the breath save, had expected petrify so need to remember what creature needs which save.

I rest and buff for the final room (DUHM, Air Control), and I'm careful to have the berserk warrior near melee distance and Kitthix further back to web. I've killed one fledgling vampire but a second has drained me (to 11) so I retreat. The berserk warrior joins me at the door as Kitthix webs the fledgling missed a screenshot here. I kill it and a grimwarder as my summons fall, knocking a second down before retreating to hide. A third has followed so I deal with that then the last of them, finishing with a stun against the final fledgling and thinking I should get restored before Lassal or Bodhi but it is a long way and oh never mind. Back upstairs after a rest for Lassal to take a shadowy sunray web, and it would be rude not to do the same for Bodhi with less successful results. I'm careful not to stand too close to her and to my delight I discover she's possibly the slowest vampire encountered to date. I had planned to run to a temple but find I can I hide around a corner three times before she tires of my games. Time for another temple visit.

If you are under Improved Invisibility, you are right the AC doesn't go up, however there IS a penalty to the attack rolls of those trying to melee you. So you wouldn't see it in the stats unless you could look at enemy rolls.

Makes sense, thanks for clarifying.

Grunn, LN human male monk
I buy 7 lucky scolls of restoration from the Helm/Lathander temples and pay to be restored as well (level up : 14 and half way to 15). Then I head to Umar where Jermien gifts me a short sword called Ilbratha should make life a lot easier. On to an abandoned temple, where Anath asks for and receives my help. I kill a few shade wolves and shadows before using a mirror on a huge gem to eliminate a horde of them and head into the temple.

Inside I clear a few enemies, pick up a gnawed skeleton, release Mazzy Fentan and answer some questions (2 flamestrikes, level 15, fists +3). After a few more shadows I use the berserk warrior as a decoy and illumimate a pillar room before blocking the door and mirroring for the first time. I still have images left after clearing the four guardians so safely investigate the trapped pillar.

DUHM, AirControl, Mirror, Berserk Sunray drops the next identical group, then a bone golem and trapped shadow are last to go. There is a huge shadow dragon next so the same buffs with a quivering palm start is my gambit. The dragon saves twice, then stoneskins. I hit again and am thrown backwards as the berserk warrior is treated to a death spell. Kitthix is closing in as I take a dispel and two breath weapons saves of 4 and 18, each drain 4 levels and I expect the 18 was on a reduced save as I lost levels from the first. With only 7 levels left and blinded I run for the stairs as Kitthix takes one for the team.

I use a restoration scroll copyright corey_russell and glug potions of frost giant strength, heroism and invulnerability before unpacking the Sling of Seeking and sunstone bullets. Kitthix is running scared as I return so I pelt a bullet and run. My second bullet hits - 2 damage while I take 28 in return so that isn't going to work. I glug a potion of regeneration and hide under the north-east alcove. My save vs breath is 1 so I'm surprised when a save of 12 sees me take three effects and lose 12 levels in one go. I retreat again but this means going around the dragon and hoping it is still breathing in for the next attack. Once I am safe I use a second scroll of restoration and decide not to return. Maybe later, with Ilbratha, air control ring and invulnerability potion ALL used after the remove magic and some HLA's - particularly if I add Oversight or Refinements.

Hmm, for the shadow dragon, if no NPP items, and if solo melee, not much recourse other than get more levels and HLAs under your belt then give it another go. This advice is hard to implement, but the level drain breath attack is a small area, and it's possible to avoid the breath attack and not get level drained at all. And yes, the Ilbratha is practically a must that fight.

Ganger, assassin 13

Arriving in the Slums for the first time Ganger realised that he needed to keep mobile and there was plenty of running (and poor shooting) as he dealt with Cohrvale & Bregg.  Inside the Copper Coronet getting into stealth was much easier and using that and poison he had no trouble freeing the inn.  All his poison for the day was expended prior to tackling the beastmaster, but one more backstab after this did the trick.  Ganger also got level 12 here (improved find traps, 2-handed weapon style).

He stealthed round the city until triggered Suna Seni and Renfeld ambushes.  II, DUHM, poison and stealth was enough to deal with those after mages were backstabbed.

The mad cleric at the Docks died of blood poisoning on the way to return Renfeld.  No problems with Xzar's quest - with Prebek no longer available to talk Sanasha stayed neutral until she could be backstabbed at leisure.

With trolls expected at every turn (Copper Coronet, Trademeet, De'Arnise) Ganger wanted to have a means to kill them and decided on use of an efreeti.  On the way to Trademeet he was ambushed again and discovered assassin's poison does not go through stoneskin (shame), so lots of stealth shots were needed there.  At Trademeet took out Taquee using his first successful trap (15% chance of success using DUHM) and poisoned arrows of piercing and finished off the other genies with similar tactics.

Started Mae'Var tasks and stealing a necklace got him to level 13 (improved find traps - with DUHM can now get that up to 80%).

Used some potions and at the moment is running round the city stealing a few choice items.  He's already acquired the Ring of Regeneration from Ribald and Ring of the Ram from Tolgerias and has also made use of his current 100%+ find traps to get the berserker horn.

Edit: And Ganger perishes.  He went to see what Roger had to offer and thought he would see if he could kill the troll.  His initial backstab didn't kill it so decided to see if Roger had a potion of speed available.  In my other installation talking pauses the game, but not in this one ...

Well, BlackStrider & Co continues their adventures.

We had enough gold to get strengh belt and ring of air control for Jaheira and visited  the Seven Vails to deal with Mencar Pebblecrusher's gang. As we disabled them with Web, Entangle, Confusion (by Nymph), Horror and Emotion that was very smooth sailing:

Then we headed to the Bridge District to pick Horn of Valhalla (Nalia used Potion of Mind Focusing to pick the lock/trap) and obliterated Valeria's band:

At the moment our fake illithium alloy was ready and we delivered it to Sir Sarles. He wasn't happy with it tho and left the city  quite indignant. The Temple was more tolerant and gave us the Helm of Glory as a reward and enother mission to be fulfiled - return the Dawn Ring stolen by thieves working for the Temple of Talos. True Sight + Emotion ensured the job done:

Then we talked with Raelis Shae, agreed to rescue Haer'Dalis from the Mage Mekrath  and headed to the sewers. Helped Roger with Sea Troll and bought the Potion Case, dealt with Rakshasa and confronted Tarnor the Hatchetman's Mercenaries. That fight is no joke even without SCS but with it (and pre-buffed mages/priests) it proved to be a real pain in the a**. The biggest threat was Gaius. He know well how to pre-buff properly to be untouchable by our weapons/spells and definitely can compete with Minsc in butt-kicking for whatever he pleased. He fell last by Viconia's bullet in the eye but not before he emptied all his spellbook (a lot of stuff he had there):

Current state:

BlackStrider - Priest of Helm (11) inactive / Mage (11), 45 kills (Valeria);
Jaheira - Fighter (10) / Druid (12), 154 kills (Bone Golem);
Nalia - Thief (4) / Mage (12), 118kills (TorGal); 1 death (by slavers ambush);
Viconia - Cleric (11), 3 kills (Gaius), 1 death (by Rune Assassing);
Mazzy - Fighter (10), 33 kills (Shade Lord)

to be continued...

Just noticed this... is there anything simple I can do, or do you just think these aren't suited to solo play?

It's not a fully formed opinion: I haven't really experimented with either of them.

My Bounty Hunter, Alesia, had tried the Improved Sendai's Enclave. I thought it was very well done. I was especially pleased to see Ogremoch and Odamaron fighting better.

Sendai herself looked excellent but, unfortunately, that was the playthrough where I encountered the (now fixed) Tobex magic damage resistance bug- I never got the chance to finish the fight. It would have been a tough, tough battle for Alesia I suspect (that room is too small for her to fight a crowd) but I certainly wouldn't recommend changes based on that.

As for the Abazigal Lair, I haven't tried it yet. Pure cowardice.  Since I'm playing No Reload games exclusively these days, the thought of tacking on tactical components at the end is worrisome.

When I revamp my install, I plan to install both. I'll be able to say more then. I can  also experiment with them outside of a No Reload run as well if you like. Either way, I'll let you know how it goes. :)

Best,

A.

Quick Note on Alyssa's Game:

Alyssa made some progress while I was cut off from the internet.

Most importantly, she made a new friend.

Alyssa is now ready for the Throne. I'll post on her prior progress when I get the chance.

Best,

A.

@Corey- Thanks for the well wishes. Alyssa was happy to oblige your request. :)

Nice work Serg, and sorry to hear about what I now call the Kaxir syndrome Grond0.

Grunn, LN human male monk
I said I would never return - however I am buffed (even if fatigued from the restoration). I quickly run through the dragon chamber without saying hello again, and step outside to kick the Shadow Altar and Shadow Patrick back to their home plane. I toy with the Shade Lord, first using a sunray then a sunstone bullet.  I am feeling confident as the Shade Lord is now badly wounded, but he contingencies ten(ish) mirror images and my bullets will never clear then before he re-casts. I switch to fists, aware that attempts to level drain and blind me are being made a roll of 2 saved so feeling fairly safe. I glug a potion of regeneration as he hits me and start to bash away at his images. Three or four are removed but I have been blinded so I use my jedi monk training to select the right one and chunk him. Merella uses her dying breath to show me how a sling should be used (monk: 16) and I almost turn back to deal with the dragon. Almost.

I trade the unimproved mace of disruption for some more potions (Roger got a good deal there but will have to find another buyer for the "extremely valuable" illithium) and head towards Mekrath. He wants me to retrieve a mirror and as I'm in a hurry I use quivering palm on a couple of unsuspecting victims then show my anger with a poor deal. After freeing Haer'dalis I buff and eliminate five umber hulks 3 with 1 quivering palm - now getting to the point where lesser enemies can be swept aside and a minotaur without injury then fall for another acid blob trap always think it is charm as the location is similar to TotSC Durlags wisdom tome area.
