Forrest the level 7 fighter/8 mage continues his adventure...
Traveling with: Minsc, Jaheira, Yoshimo, Misty, Aerie

So the party hears of a strange problem with the local circus...mainly people gone missing and guards sent to investigate did not return. The party enters and meets a genie who asks a complicated algebra question, Forrest figured it out though. Inside we found an ogre with a female voice (thought the ogre itself definitely looked male). It said it needed a sword to remove its illusion. We got it for the ogre, after all if it was lying, it would not have lasted long. As it turns out, it was a female avariel (winged elf, though she didn't have her wings). She was a cleric/mage so Forrest accepted her help.

Next group of enemies were shadows, which required magic weapons and ammo to hit and werewolves. Forrest knew the werewolves were illusions, however the party had no way to dispel it yet (divine casters aren't level 5 yet so no true seeing) so ended up fighting them. Yoshimo got pinned and killed. The rest of the shadows and werewolves in that room were cleared out without further difficulty.

Time to deal with the master mind of this circus problem, some gnome named Kalah. Aerie did magic missiles then acid arrow spells, Forrest used his sling and everyone else used their melee weapons on Kalah - he died fast and when he did, the illusions were all dispelled and the circus was back to normal. We got a ring which put someone's charisma to 18 (went to Jaheira) and also a belt of piercing. Forrest took that, as it might help him survive backstabbing thieves, if it comes to that.

The party then went to the slums and talked to Gaelan Bayle. Gaelan said he knew where Imoen and Irenicus went, but it will cost 20,000 gold for his help. The party will have to do some mercenary work it seems to get enough gold to do that.

Forrest rested, and went to Gaelan's house again - reason? To cast some long term spells such as armor, stone skin and resist fear. We can't afford a magic license yet, so this little trick gets around that, as they usually only catch you if you cast mage spells outside. Then finally invisibility 10'. The party went to the gate and got the Sune Suna ambush (about 6 slavers, including a mage, cleric, and some backstabbing thieves). This went MUCH smoother than the last run we got ambushed! The party mages moved away for safety, Yoshimo, Misty, and Minsc moved toward the mage and Jaheira summoned a nymph. This got corey_russell a much better position than the last time he had to face this ambush...
Image IPB

The mage was killed quickly. Next round Jaheira did call lightning, Forrest did Emotion spell, and Aerie did sanctuary as a slaver attacked her in melee. Minsc moved to defend his witch (Aerie), Misty used her fists on some theives, and Yoshimo backstabbed a slaver. The results were wildly successful, with the entire slavers all failing their save vs the emtion!
Image IPB
We did do other spells like slow and holy smite, but it didn't matter, the slavers were finished. We also got some much needed potions from this ambush, though we certainly need more. No deaths, and actually very little damage taken, Misty took a few backstabs but she weathered them well.

Party returned to the Copper Coronet and sold their junk, rested and considered their next move. So yes, traveling invisible seems the way to go, if possible.

Angus decided to head back into the Underdark and got himself a nice belt very easily. (I didn't realise that by doing it that way, you don't have to fight too many enemies.) I was also pleased that due to the Saerileth mod, I could continue role-playing my paladin. I didn't have to sacrifice to the idol to get the belt.
The party then cleared the beholder cave. To kill the one that casts imprisonment, I sent in a Diva. Fortunately only one imprisonment spell! Angus attacked with Carsomyr but was getting nowhere until Nalia and Imoen reduced magical resistance. After that it was just a matter of time.

Thanks! It's a bit less dangerous with the mage taken out quickly though the backstabbers could still be quite a threat to the casters. But with the party mages out of the way, and being prepared in advance with stoneskins, they were prepared to pull through.

That was indeed a great run, Gate! I my opinion, a satisfaction from the process matters much more than the result itself.

@Corey: pretty nice going! Keep it up! :)

That was a great run Gate70! It was nice to see a solo pure melee non-thief kicking behinds. I don't know if Abazigal can see invisibility or not, but if not, invisibility potion may have been an option to fight longer.

Thanks (@all). He could see through hide in shadows - just checked and he casts true sight, The Answerer hinders AC even with stoneskins active so 1 GWW with that could drop his AC from -15 to a positive number. (he got me again in that test too, although I had him to near death and could have run to glug but wanted to see if hardiness/mirror/GWWww was enough).

Will aim to try Abazigal with the mods as below (in due course). Below are HLA's which may help.

Oversight has Dragons Fist which could dispel protections - no idea if that includes improved haste. Shadow stance includes improved invisibility and negates true sight. Second wind contingencies a full heal. Feet of the Wind should allow a monk to keep out of his buffets. Flip resistances (magical to physical) could see a sustained combat despite a lack of GWW. I'd expect Abazigal to be tough but a hit & run or slow grind might work.

Refinements has Shadowless Kick - no save & unconscious (no mention of dragons etc being immune), Dragon Fist is a combination of Warding Whip style de-buffs and pierce magic, Finger of Destruction can be saved against but affects constitution, save vs death and slight damage. Inner Time has 8APR and 4 bonus to damage/THACO/AC but the monk is winded for 2 rounds afterwards. Evasion/Greater Evasion as per thief. Second Wind is again a contingency full heal. Chant trades MR for 75% physical and 25% elemental resistance. Regeneration gives 2hp/round but can be picked up to 5 times for 10hp/round (not sure if this is permanently active or has to be activated). Shadowless Kick and Inner Time sound like they could make life difficult for Abazigal.

Forrest the level 7 fighter/level 8 illusionist continues his adventure....
Traveling with: Minsc, Jaheira, Misty (monk), Yoshimo, Aerie

The party decided they would investigate the slaver problem at the Copper Coronet. Corey_Russell learned his lesson - maximum buffs every fight. This worked out well, and the party cleanly defeated the slavers guarding Hendak's cell. Next, the party needs to get the cell key from the Beastmaster and his pets. Minsc and Jaheira gulped a lot of heal potions but two successful charm animals by Minsc swung the fight into the party's favor. Aerie has been using the protection from normal missiles every fight now, and that has served her well. Once the key was obtained, Hendak was freed. There were a few slaver guards left, but no magic users, so they were cut down quickly with the party's concentrated fire.

The party sold their junk, rested and headed to Gaelan Bayle's - why? To buff! We still can't afford a magic license. After buffing we headed to the slaver's HQ front door. It was a long battle, but the protection from fire I put on the front-liners helped a lot with the enemy MMMs (a fire attack), the fighters this time weren't slaughtered. Forrest put in a couple of emotion spells which helped some, took out one of the mages. Misty wanted to help so she charged an enemy mage. Problem though was teh mage had just cast web, which held Misty in place. No one had free action so there was no way to get to her. We did continue to range attack the mage, but he killed Misty before the party could kill the slaver mage.

This was still much better than last time, only one casualty.
Image IPB
Jaheira had a Harper's Call for just such an occassions and brought Misty back from the dead. Forrest was glad to see her back, he didn't relish trying to accomplish his quest without her. After looting everything, the party looted, rested and returned.

Yet again, maximum buffs before the next batch of slavers, just to be safe. This quickly mowed them down, including the enemy cleric. Yoshimo found and got rid of a nasty acid trap. Minsc charged Captain Haegan and went berserk, while the party assisted with ranged attacks. The Captain left the facility in fear, Minsc's attacks broke his morale. Yoshimo then carefully pulled the batch of trolls (Minsc was stll berserk -- for the one person out there that doesn't know, when Minsc is bersek he attacks everything including party members if they get too close) Misnc attacked party assisted with ranged fire, slow spell, and Yoshimo finished them off with fire arrows we had bought from a fence before we got here. The party went into the sewers to finish Captain Haegan, reported our success to Hendak and Misty got to level 9 - her fists are now magical.

We purchased the reflection shield for Jaheira, and a medium shield +2 for Forrest. Ended the session here, pondering our next move.

Angus and party were heading after Bodhi when their progress was interupted by a messenger from Tyr saying that we should deal with a fallen Deva called Kesevar. We discovered that he might well be innocent, and entered Watcher's Keep to discover whether this was so. We defeated many demons of various types, but were then ambushed by several Cambion who were quite powerful. Imoen was killed almost immediately, but we continued to fight on. Angus went from full health to dead in an instant, but I have no idea how. :( We had managed to kill one cambion before that happened.

Sorry for your loss, Wise... :(

Update of BlackStrider & Co:

After battle with Tarnor's gang we saved Haer'Dalis from Mekrath's slavery in non-violent way and obtained two valuable wands. Decided not to report Raelis yet, sold all the loot from Tarnor's gang and had enough gold to pay Gaelan Bayle for the audience with Aran Linvail. Not that we were eager to do that by itself but I desperatly wanted the Ring of Lock Picks for Nalia so she wouldn't be so dependent on potions in thiefs skills. Amulet of Power and Ring of Protection are great of course and I equiped them myself. Aran assigned us with first task - to help Mook at the docks and we also signed a contract with Renal Bloodscalp on dealing with Maevar's Guild. It was nighttime at the moment so we dealt with Lassal (even improved he wasn't hard) and looted Talos's temple. Edwin sent us to deal with Rayic Gethras. Jaheira, buffed with Protection from Fire, cleared Mephits and went upstairs under Improved Invisibility. There she summoned Fire Elemental but Golems noticed her, slowed and hit hard so she gulped Potion of Invisibility whilst Fire Elemental, being immune to Golem's attacks, eliminated them. We were out of spells at the moment so left Rayic alone for awhile and headed outside where Dermin approached us with last warning for Jaheira.

Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB

Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB

Eager to complete that quest as soon as possible we went to the De'Arnise Keep area to sleep outdoors and of course where ambushed along the way. But that was not the most dire event - I've noticed that in my install Invisibility 10' Radius doesn't work as it should (duration 24 hours)!!! The travel to the Keep takes 8 hours but we were visible at the time of the ambush!  Well, run for your life with Chaos on your heels! Luckily we managed to escape and rested at the Keep's outskirts. Woke up without Jaheira in the party and Elminster gave us a letter from her. Back to the Docks! Viconia used Ring of Invisibility + Invisibility 10' Radius for the rest of us = only Viconia is invisible upon arrival...:crying: And there were welcoming party of Tanova with two buddies... Nalia immediately was Dominated, Mazzy drained 4 levels so she and I gulped Potions of Invisibility whilst Tanova drank Nalia's noble blood twice dropping her Constitution to 8! To our luck that satiated her so she turned into the bat and left Nalia alone. When Nalia regained her senses we retreated (OK... ran like from the Hell ) to the Slums and rested till the daytime. Back to the Docks and Harper's Hold. Welcoming party of fighters is no big threat and we reunited with Jaheira. The way back was more challenging, and again enemies' Mage fell last but we pravailed without too much difficulties:

Now pondering our next move.

Hrd luck Wise.

Grond0/Gate70 multiplayer attempt 8 : Pendal (Gate70, protaganist) and Thimble (Grond0).
The rest of the planar prison is carefully done, with the warden killed halfway round. Once the remaining cells are completed Thimble shoves the green orb into the brazier for a final bit of experience then Haer'dalis and his troupe are released.

Brynnlaw is next, killing one pirate and finding safe passage for Ginia and her brother before dealing with Lonk the sane and moving on to Spellhold. A few shadows later we are talking to the co-ordinator, after that Pendal has his Bhaal powers removed and we are thrown into a dangerous maze. Quick progress is made starting with filling up a bag of holding, although at one stage Pendal is confused by umber hulks and Thimble dominated by a mind flayer. We ignore one side of the maze (the riddling faces, statues and portal have little of interest) and by the time we escape we each have two HLA's (Pendal chooses extra spell 6 & 7 while Thimble chooses power attack and critical strike).

Thimble clears out trolls, yuan-ti and minotaurs before deciding to become an art collector. With this new-found culture she decides it is time to critique another part of the Icewind Dale II book.

The ground floor of the ice temple is complete so Bulwark and Salde eventually work out the mechanics of a staircase and ascend (although 30 minutes or so was wasted as our dialogue options were different so my no 3 was different to Grond0's etc). Much of the next area is completed before Salde stumbles into a polar bear with her bow. 13400gp is required to raise her from the dead (and Bulwark could think about retiring from adventuring with this amount of cash).

The second level of the ice temple is completed too, other than a battle puzzle (& 2 "ease" reloads are taken for Salde as a demonic whirlwind force hits her with fatal lightning bolts - the first time fair enough, the second time she is a long way off with invisibility so 3rd time she has mirror images active).

Bulwark is level 12 with 575 (+39) kills and 112hp, Salde level 12 with 330 (+22) kills and 20hp.

Pendal Fighter 14/ Illusionist 14. 212 BG1 kills. 320 (+21) BG2 kills. Adamantite golem.
Thimble Fighter 14 / Illusionist 14. 196 BG1 kills. 703 811 (+108) BG2 kills. Firkraag.

Abigail, Cleric

Hi all. Say hello to Abigail, Dwarven Cleric, follower of Marthammor Duin.
Image IPB

Abigail is a Trilogy candidate. Her BG1 run -assisted by Coran- was finished about an hour ago. For the most part, she'll be soloing in BGII but she may make friends along the way.

Info on Abigail's deity can be found here:
http://www.savage-la...AMMOR_DUIN.html

Proficiencies: Slings, Hammers, Quarterstaves, 2 Handed Weapon Style

Character Description: Dwarven though she may be, Abigail wasn’t born for a life of the rock: winding roads and open skies are the things that speak to her. It shouldn’t come as a surprise then that she found Marthammor Duin early. She honors him, but more than that, she honors what he stands for- as well as the prospects of a life in his footsteps. She is a playful lass awed by the vastness of the world. She hopes to walk every foot of it.

Personal Item: Abigail has one personal item. It's a little more powerful then most the items my characters receive primarily because she's missing out on a kit on role playing grounds. She may receive others from her deity later in her adventures.

Wherever I May Roam

+ 2 Movement Rate Bonus
Blessed while equipped
20% Cold Resistance
Cast Friends 1/Day

Mods: G3, SCSII, Ascension

I doubt Abigail will make it very far, but I'm looking forward to her adventure nonetheless. Wish her luck!

Best,

A.

Sorry to see that impressive run end slightly before time Gate70

Good luck with Abigail, Alesia!

About her personal item, did you have any specific npc's in mind when picking 20% cold resist over other possibilities? Maybe it's just for RP reasons, her diety making sure she is a bit warmer at nights but my curiosity bids me to ask :P

That's it. Marthammor Duin is a god of travel and exploration. He is popular in the north and his symbol includes a pair of fur lined boots in addition to a mace.

In general, I'd like abilities from her deity to focus on movement and comfort on the road: hence the Movement Rate, Cold Resistance, and Friends cast.

She may get another item later in her adventure (I'm thinking a Mace similar to the Sword of Arvoreen). I'd like the items granted by her deity to at least partially compensate for the kit she missed on role playing grounds.

Best,

A.

Update of BlackStrider & Co:

We decided to continue on Maevar guild investigation and confronted Rayic Gethras. At first that wasn't too scary aside that I was lack on means to remove his protections. Than he gated Cornugon (Improved Fiends, so our Protection from Evil doesn't matter)... *Great fun!*, as Minsc likes to say. For us that wasn't funny at all... First Rayic insta-killed Mazzy with Prismatic Spray (at least she wasn't disintegrated...). Than he stunned Viconia, Nalia and Jaheira. Nalia's stoneskins helped her to stay vs Cornugon for a while but eventually all but me were dead... I retreated to the previous floor to catch my breath and think. By that time Cornugon unsummoned and I went back in jelly form to revive my friends with Rod of Ressurection. Soon Rayic was out of spells and fell.

Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB

The rest of the Guild was much much easier (and great source of Invisibility Potions) with only Mae'var himself being able to provide some challenge:

Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB

Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB

We reported back to Renal Bloodscalp and I finally regained my Priest's abilities. Hope that my life will be a bit easier from now on... With my Cleric's duties back I think now it is time to investigate the Unseeing Eye.

Current state:

BlackStrider - Priest of Helm (11) / Mage (12), 50 kills (Valeria);
Jaheira - Fighter (10) / Druid (12), 185 kills (Bone Golem); 1 death (by Rayic Gethras);
Nalia - Thief (4) / Mage (13), 131 kills (TorGal); 2 death (by slavers ambush, Rayic Gethras);
Viconia - Cleric (12), 4 kills (Gaius), 2 death (by Rune Assassing, Rayic Gethras);
Mazzy - Fighter (11), 45 kills (Shade Lord), 1 death (by Rayic Gethras)

to be continued...

Abigail in the Chataeu

I just thought I'd quickly cover Abigail's jaunt through the Chataeu- in case anyone is curious how it works out for a solo Cleric.

Abigail's book was loaded with Holy Power and DUHMs when she arrived. That worked out fine. A Strength spell tossed by Imoen before departing helped to.

Pro Evil, Strength (Imoen), DUHM made the first Duergar batches non-threatening.
Image IPB

Now in Amn -where there is lots of evil- Abigail expects to get more use out of Holy Smite.
Image IPB

Once Imoen's Strength spell wore off, Abigail used Holy Power->DUHM in melee.
Image IPB

Abigail's rest was taken in between the traps in Ellesime's room.

Then the Portals. Abigail buffed up, and took down the Radiant Mephit portal first. This was a mistake in retrospect. The advantage of taking down the Radiant Mephit portal first is clear, the disadvantage, however, is that you can get boxed by fire damage Mephits. Given that Chaotic Commands lasts longer than Pro Fire, she should have taken down the Fire Mephit portals first.
Image IPB
Image IPB

Less than ideal, but it worked...
Image IPB

And then the Sanctuary out.
Image IPB

Best,

A.

Btw. I haven't made Abigail's boots yet: I was eager to get her started. She'll get them soon.

@Serg. I almost felt bad for Gethras when I read your post. He wipes out your band, sends you running, and then you return in Mustard Jelly form with the Rod of Ressurection. Can you imagine how incredibly irritating that must have been from his perspective?

That was a clever solution. Well done.:)

Abigail's Early Amnish Adventures

Since a few people were interested in seeing a Cleric, I thought I'd cover Abigail's early adventures in a moderate amount of detail. I'll note that I have another motivation for posting on Abigail in more detail: she needs your help! This will be my first single classed Cleric run. Abigail would appreciate any and all advice.

Anyhoo. Here it goes...

After exiting the Chataeu, Abigail rested, and then visited the Circus Tent. She dropped the peasant, took an Improved Invisbility off of Aerie, and then stealthed into Kalah's inner sanctum alone.

Once there she buffed.
Image IPB

Broke Sanctuary with a Holy Smite.
Image IPB

Rushed Kalah, and beaned him over the head running the Holy Triumvirate.
Image IPB

After selling Kalah's goodies, Abigail purchase a Potion of Freedom, a Potion of Invisibility, an Oil of Speed, a Potion of Firebreath, and the Staff Mace. Her eyes lit up when she saw Ribald's Ring of Air Control, but that would have to wait: at least she had the potions to keep her safe untill she could return.

Abigail's next move was to complete the first half of the Slaver Quest. She began by steathing into the pit area and dropping the Winter Wolf. Upon approaching the Beastmaster, she buffed in her Sanctuary, triggered the encounter, and then broke with Greater Command. That and a touch of door closing kept the critters under control while she felled the beastmaster (no screenshots).

Once Lethinam was routed, Abigail purchased the Sling of Seeking, had a few item identified at Gaelen's, and then returned to the Promenade to purchase the Ring of Air Control. Before leaving the Slums she cast Santuary and Chaotic Commands. No ambush. Her shopping trip was followed by a little detective work in the bridge district and then a potion shopping trip to the Temple District Sewers where she purchased a Potion of Magic Shielding and a second Potion of Firebreath. Always cautious, Abigail cast Santuary and Chaotic Commands once again before switching areas. No ambushes.

At this point, Abigail was eager for a little adventure, so she made the trip to the Graveyard District running just Chaotic Commands. And guess what: that's when she met Suna Seni.

Their pre-buffs fired. Abigail went Ring of Air Control and buffed herself: Holy Power, DUHM, Chant, Defensive harmony.
Image IPB

She broke invisibility with a Greater Command.
Image IPB

The Greater Command put the Mage, the Cleric, and Eldarin to sleep. She dropped the Cleric quick and was hopeful that she wouldn't need to use a Potion of Firebreath.
Image IPB

She probably could have skipped it, but I started getting a little anxious as the clocks on RoAC II and GC Sleep kept ticking.
Image IPB

The finish.
Image IPB

The Crypt King was next. This was just a throw down running the Holy Triumvirate. When in melee, Abigail only casts the super quick stuff like Doom and Defensive Harmony.
Image IPB

The session ended with Renfeld. II->Buff. Breaking with GC took all but the Mage out of the action. He took a Doom, but then made his save against Hold Person three times.
Image IPB

The Sling of Seeking finished him nonetheless just as II ran out and his buddies woke up.
Image IPB

Finished in melee.
Image IPB

EDIT: Tacking on the Orog Ambush.

The Orog Ambush occured while Abigail was on her way to see Roger in the hopes of filling out her potion collection. Same approach here.

Ring of Air Control Improved Invisibility.
Image IPB

Followed by buffing and a Greater Command opening.
Image IPB

Took down the man with the ranged weapon first.
Image IPB

A Holy Smite took out all but the sleepy ones.
Image IPB

They started having nightmares.
Image IPB

Dropped another Smite in case there were invisible foes lurking.
Image IPB

Current character record and inventory.
Image IPB
Image IPB

Abigail will start her first major quest soon.

Best,

A.

Yes, I also love detailed battle write-ups. Nice going (and I see that there are plenty of item improvements that can be done - several slots are still empty)!

I figure it's going to be more dangerous once mages and such threaten to wipe out those nice battle buffs Abigail is running. It may also be hard to cover all the needs for protection from disbling spells (not to mention those SCSII 3x Flame Arrow sequencers!). I lost my only no-reloads character (a Blade) with that mod setup against one of those sequencers, thrown by Irenicus in Spellhold.

Yup. It's still early. She's filling out her item set now.

Exactly. Clerics have two major problems: they can't protect themselves from Remove and their spells have long casting times. In the early going -when enemies typically can't detect the invisible via script, they are workable since you can vanish and rebuff but later they have issues.

It may also be hard to cover all the needs for protection from disbling spells

Fear, Sleep and to a lesser extent Stun are the problem spots. Sleep is generally an issue without SI:A (I'm thinking of Tamah in particular). If you lack SI:A and can't use blades Fear can become an issue as well post Remove. She'll have late acces to Free Action items (blocks Stun in my install) but not the Sword of Arvoreen which is my prefered Stun protection item since it doesn't interfere with Haste in anyway and also grants Slow immunity.

I'll note that it's possible that her deity will assist with one of those holes: she does have another personal item coming her way and given that she has missed out on a kit on role playing grounds, I intend to make it a decent one.

(not to mention those SCSII 3x Flame Arrow sequencers!). I lost my only no-reloads character (a Blade) with that mod setup against one of those sequencers, thrown by Irenicus in Spellhold.

Condolences.

Those are dangerous. Abigail has a lot to worry about, but with most of my characters, Power Word: Stun and Flame Arrow x 3 Seqeunecers are my biggest concerns.

Fortunately for Abigail and other Small Shield users, The Reflex stops those cold- it's just a matter of making sure it's equipped at the right time.

Best,

A.
