Valygar - Stalker 12
Yoshimo - Thief 15
After visiting Trademeet, Athos and his group went to the Umar hills to help the villagers with the mysterious attacks they were experiencing. They quickly found and eliminated the cause: a shade infestation in an old temple nearby. After cleaning out that problem, they decided to try and attack the shadow dragon they passed by along the way.
Yoshimo laid his 6 traps, they called up their summons, and buffed with the few spells they had and a few potions. The traps hit, the summons did some damage, but then the dragon scared them away and cast PfMW on top of his stoneskins. Since the summons were running around like crazy anyway, Athos decided to wait that one out. Unfortunately this didn't work out so well as the dragon used the break to cast Heal and came back to full health from the brink of death. The group quickly realized they had no chance against a fully healed dragon and retreated. However, they will be back once they feel they're ready! (Which is probably going to be in chapter 6.)
Interesting new items:
Athos got the dark chain mail that gives 20% fire resist (AC 2), Yoshi is wearing the one from the Umar hills mayor (also AC 2, +20% hide). Valygar now has ** in long swords and will wield his personal katana or Namarra (which has slightly higher damage, but no bleeding effect), with Malakar in the off-hand. FoA is still the only +3 weapon we have. We got the dragon slayer sword, which is our first regeneration item; will come in handy to regain HP while resting or traveling. Also new is the shield of harmony; we didn't need it yet, but I'm sure it will become very useful in some situations.
I'd like to get a better regeneration item (one of the rings, preferably) before leaving to Spellhold, a ranged melee weapon (Dwarven Thrower, Azureedge, a dagger,...) and something against level drain would be nice, too. There's not that much left to do though, mainly the Windspear hills and the slightly harder Athkatla quests: Unseeing Eye, Planar Sphere, Planar Prison.

I'm pretty sure that Sunfire ignores MR only when cast by player characters.
I've confirmed that Sunfire can ignore MR when cast by NPCs- at least when Triggered (on self) by SCS mages. Keep that in mind No Reloaders- especially those who plan to use the Jelly.
Of course, this may be because it was triggered on self rather than the properties of Sunfire.

Btw. Alastria was running Pro Energy at the time so it wasn't an issue.
Btw II: Good work with Athos Thrar. And I'm glad to hear from Terra Shadow.

At this stage of the game, Alastria v1's journals had a lot of story and little tactics. And since this thread is tactics oriented. I'm reluctant to clutter it up with purely story based entries.
For the segment from Saemon's ship to Spellhold, I'll just link to the original journals in the old forums. If any one is interested in her narrative, they can read those entries. The link appears below. Entry 16 (middle of the page) picks up where the ones here leave off.
http://forums.biowar...forum=18&sp=105
They end with Entry 19 on page 9.
Her entries in this thread will resume from that point and will have a mix of story and tactics.
Best,
A.

So im looking for some input on which to choose for this. There is my divinatrice, Zalaa. She was roleplayed(well if you can call that roleplay lol) troughout bg1. Basically she is a chaotic neutral but her action are chosen by the dice. EVERY single choice of dialogue go trough my faithfull dice so she can decide to dropkick a baby from a cliff one second and then give all her money to the poor the next. Even her character creation was done solely by rolling random dice which gave a Half-elf divinatrice(the worst frigging mage spec lol) who is chaotic neutral. This Rollplay gave me a lot of chuckle and some interesting turn of events.
The other character is my bounty hunter Ruelov Starsky. He has been roleplayed(and not rollplayed) and is lawfull neutral. He abide by the law but he is a real badass so dont **** with him. Cold calculator he scout everything first and then plan ahead. I might play him solo or with a group depending on the general input i get.
So help me choose plz.

I escaped the dungeon OK along with Minsc and Jahiera.
My beloved Dynahir is dead!
Picked up Yoshimo and helped him sort out his problems with the shadow thieves.
Unfortunately when fighting the mage, Minsc was killed with finger of death, and Jahiera was disintigrated!!
That was a disaster as she was carrying some good stuff!
Dropped off Edwin and Yoshimo and raised Minsc. Boo was kidnapped and now has some Boolets.
Dropped off Minsc and picked up Nalia.

This is the start of the story of Zalaa in BG2. What you need to know about Zalaa is that she was created solely by diceroll From her race to the stat. The only thing i ever chose for her was the name, the portrait, the soundset and her colors. I had only planned to create her with diceroll but the idea of choosing every single of her actions/dialogue with diceroll was when i obtained chaotic neutral for her alignement. I said **** it im rolling those dice lol.
So here is a little backstory/bios. Zalaa is a chaotic neutral beauty. She is the crazy girlfriend everyone have/had/will have wet dream and/or nightmare about(atleast that is how i picture her lol). She played BG1 with the canon good party, that mean Imoen, khalid/jaheira and minsc/Dynaheir. She fought about everything she could spare a few quest in baldurs. Even if she had her crazy moment the dice mostly went toward good(lets see if she become a little meaner this time).
Her stat(wanted to take a screenshot but it seem i have an issue and every screenshot i take from bg2 is all black will edit when i find a fix)
9
13(She found 1 tome, she started at 12)
16
18
20(she found 3 tomes, she started out with 17)
18
She is a lvl 9 divinatrice(this is really the worst specialization ever as ive found out in bg1), half elf, chaotic neutral.

After a little bit of torture Zalaa meet an old friend, Imoen. They are like real sister *cough* and they set off to escape this horrid place. They also meet Jaheira and minsc to whom Zalaa requested they split up as to make their escape easier. Zalaa and imoen decide to equip themself so an excellent dagger for immy and a staff for Zalaa lol. A weird machine was the first obstacle, a stealthed imoen turned it off but 1 weird creature was summoned by the machine before turning it off. A little Magic missile by Zalaa did the trick.
Next some sort of Genie ask her a question and then spawn not 2 not 3 but 4 scared gibberling. Chasing them down with a staff and a dagger was taking forever so i just magic missiled 3 and we beated down the last one since he didnt ran off.
Up a corrider north we find 3 duergar. An emotion + a magic missile from both immy and zalaa on the one that succeeded is save is all that was needed. Sadly the corridor was locked and we had to go back
Little bit of scouting up ahead and there is 4 duergar blocking the way. A little fireball while out of sight take care of 2 of them while 1 is almost dead running panicked. A chromatic orb casted by immy is casted on the one charging us which stun him. So we hit him hard with our weapon and after that immy pick up the crossbow + some bolt and shoot down the other duergar running around.
Next we continue slightly further and head northeast. There we open a door and find 2 odd thing. A golem and a mephit, a mineral mephit to be more precise. Zalaa cast a hold monster and we beat him down with a stick and pointy knife. We loot/find some items, find some cool scroll too(including a flame arrrow scroll that zalaa cant learn/use because conjuration is the opposite school of divination, CURSE YOU MISTRA).
Next we go south west. We find another mephit but this time its a steam mephit. And he cast some kind of aoe that really hurt both Zalaa and immy(guess its not a dust mephit that cast blind anymore lol) This unexpected new enemy(or sort of enemy) interrupt Zalaa<s casting of domination and he start chasing her down. Immy quickly draw the attention of the monster with a bolt in the back and she then draw her dagger. She tell Zalaa to get out the way and she cast a lightning bolt which almost kill it. The mephit is scared and start running but Immy finish him off with some bolt.
Next in line after some stealth scouting is an ice mephit. So immy does a lvl1 summon and bring forth a worg and an ogrillion who smash the mephit into pulp. Disarm some trap and find a nice well made staff for Zalaa. Now north it is. They find a room with 2 golem which they decide to leave as it is and Imoen spot 4 duergar ahead. Little planning and they start their attempt. First its an horror spell which seem to have worked but failed. They all had the little symbold over their head but none were actually running around scared so im gonna assume duergar are immune to horror. Plan A doesnt work so immy cast a web and try to follow it up with a stinking cloud but i ****ed up the range slightly and she get caught in her own web *GASP*(what is actually funny is that wen she reach 1 hp it trigger a dialogue and she run off saying she aint gonna die here but when she was held she reached -80 hp lol) Zalaa tried her best but spell are running low and she has to make a go for it so she haste herself and run off. With immy gone Zalaa rearrange her spellbook and notice polymorph self which remind her of an heroine she read about in candlekeep, Alastria
As Zalaa wake up she hear the sound of the duergar searching for her. So she immediatly imp invis herself. She find 2 duergar looking for(they probably splitted to find her) and so she plan her next action. She mirror image herself and then polymorph into a Flind(seriously the flind form is really strong but Zalaa<s hp is cut in more than half) and she quickly kill the duergars. The first one fell after a few hit and the second panicked as i was weaving my halberd trough him and ran to his friend whom werent much help as i slaughtered them afterward too.
After searching a little more i find a man inside a huge tank of liquid. His name was Riliev and he asked me to release him from non-death. He didnt made much sense and i had to escape so i picked up everything seemed usefull in the room and left off.
Zalaa decided to go back to the golem i found earlier and had a little chat with him. She learned that his purpose was to feed the guardian and to clean the sewer. Zalaa assume that some kind of monster is guarding something, a passage or something important that could her escape. And so She managed to find out also that the stone she picked up earlier in Rielev<s room was the activation key of the golem and so she activated him and he went off to open the door(k i cheated here to get him to open the door but rolling in this dialog is pointless)
She followed the golem and he lead me to a nasty area that leaded to several place. There Zalaa encountered the guardian at the same time polymorph self went down. An othyug(dunno if i spelt it right lulz) 3 magic missile was all that it took to kill the beast. An annoying little mephit came from the south though but she managed to kill him with magic missile + divine wrath.
Zalaa decided to go north and found a library. Another pesky mephit was waiting in ambush there. She quickly charmed him but something odd happened. AS he casted glitterdust the spell missile didnt reach is target(zalaa) but he was already charmed so his own spell affected him too when the spell missile reached is target and then did the aoe lol. So with my charmed mephit i decided to explore and kill enemy as fast as i could before the charm run off. 4 Duergar were there and everything went down great. A nice glitterdust affecting everyone and a fireball thrown at them. 1 survived and so zalaa and the imp tried to take him down. Mistake here as he turn around and crit zalaa for 36 dmg. Zalaa badly hurt run off and let the imp finish him off but as the imp finish is target he is taken down by Ilyich. It seem the fireball made too much noise and alerted him and is crew. I managed to do another quick imp invisibility and started spying on them to know their number and location.
After carefully looking Zalaa decide to sleep and restoring some of her spell was a good idea and so she did. A quick flind+mirror image combo dispatched 2 of the duergar south. After this Zalaa went north but there she met a blockade. ILyich + 3 duergar and a mage were gathered. This didnt seem a problem and so Zalaa decided to try and take out the mage asap but he quickly dispelled mirror image AND the flind form!!!! She was still in flind form but she had lost haste and the+3 halberd and the mirror image before she even had the chance to retreat. Somehow the flind form not hasted IS REALLY SLOW which i noticed too late as the mage casted horror and i panicked and there Zalaa was finished off with many bolt in her chest. Just like for BGtutu SCS add a lot of new thing and it make the game really fun.
Im sorry to disapoint, my Zalaa isnt up to alastria<s lvl in term of melee mage lol(and the lack of stoneskin/armor in her spellbook certainly doesnt help) Though i shall Alternate with my Bounty hunter(which i am used more than mages lol)

A mage by the name of Mekrath wanted Terra to find his mirror. This was a simple if not mundane task, but the experience was well worth it, as well as the rod of resurrection. The woman in Copper Coronet who had called for Terra's help, eventually received it. Terra went down to her stronghold and was immediately beset by a gang of umberhulks, spirit trolls, and giant trolls. She tried to fight in flind form first, webbing and using minor globe of invulnerability, but this strategy only killed one spirit troll and Terra suffered major damage in the process.
Eventually she tweeked her buffs, and used melf's magic meteor and sunfire to dispose of this band of enemies(along with web and minor globe). There was a yuan-ti mage on the second floor of the keep, the poor mage couldn't do anything against jelly form Terra and her ring of air control. All he could manage was a spell turning spell, and several stoneskins. He didn't try to melee or anything against jelly form Terra. At least Rayic Gethras had a skeleton warrior up front.
Tor'Gal and his goons were really no match for Terra Tangle. She minor globed+web and sunfired+flail of the ages him to death. She had forgotten to lower the drawbridge for the De'Arnise guards, so she missed out on the help(experience). But this was a minor setback. She took the stronghold for herself after Nalia asked. Terra then sold several items made obsolete by the flail, and then purchased defender of easthaven for a cool 29k and some more(she used friends). Now she wonders what else there is to do in the city.
As it would turn out, there is an acid trap right near where Haer'Dalis gem is. But this time, there was no need for an acid protection scroll. Using DUHM and vampiric touch on herself, Terra was able to get around one hundred and eighty five hit points. The trap didn't even do any damage, probably due to mirror image or something else.
Terra encounters rude mercenaries in the Delasor's Inn. She takes care of their rudeness by killing them all, all within the confines of the law.
Planar Prison
Miss Tangle uses Spell immunity abjuration and necromancy, minor globe of invulnerability, mirror image, stoneskin, and green scroll of protection of fire before entering the portal. She then uses her ring of air control when the bounty hunters start talking. She manages to kill everyone except the thief and the mage of the party with her globe+web combo. Cone of cold whips out some mean damage in this place. A moment of desperation occurs when the thief manages to put Terra to sleep! Luckily she gets back on her feet quickly and drinks an potion of oil speed to outrun this dangerous little thief with the boots of speed. One hit from the flail of ages is all that is needed to slay this little fiend. The yuan-ti mage is the most annoying of them all, he has figured out how to deal with jelly Tangle. He summons a spider and invisible stalker to chase jelly Tangle around the platform. Terra counters with her own summon, efreet from the bottle.
Round and round they go, the yuan-ti attempts to magic missile and power word stun Terra, but to no consequence. Magic resistance foils these tactics. It is the invisible stalker that is tearing up jelly Tangle, not that she was in any real danger. Terra gets out kitthix to bother the invisible talker while she takes her time smacking the mage around in jelly form. Finally, after running out of options, Terra goes back to her normal self and summons her very own invisible stalker to counter the stalker! Using up her last ring of air control she kills the mage and then helps her stalker kill the enemy stalker.
Dealing with the Master of Thralls was simple enough. The Master likes to have his duo of air elementals accompany him. Terra sends her own summons against them to no avail, they are slaughtered(the stalker and efreet). So she puts to use her rings of air control, who just so happen to have the ability to charm air elementals. She charms both air elementals and they in turn kill the Master of Thralls for her. Terra had used this area as an opportunity to find out if all the thrall would be released if she turned the stone(gem) in the podium. She had recently let the thrall nearby the entrance alive just to see if this would occur(she used a ring to move by them).
Terra was killed while fighting the Warden, I do not know why she died but she did. She had spell immunity necromancy and abjuration buffed, as well as improved invisibility. It could have been a flesh to stone spell, or some other kind of spell but I don't think I will really know.

I'm sorry to see Zalaa go so soon. Polymorph Self is powerful but it's tricky to use. You have to devote some time to it.
Good luck with whoever you try next!

Already started with Ruelov Starsky, my bounty hunter. Solo insane with SCS2. Special trap are overpowered imo but its a solo on insane so i dont mind cheesing a little. Cleared irenicus, did the circus, menkar and is group(a little tougher because of scs but nothing i couldnt handle) and freed hendak. Going for the slave compound next. Will post in more details when im done playing for the day. The only issue i really had was the Cambion who had a lot of new thing because of scs and made me run for it. Had to play hide n seek with him A LOT:lol:.Alesia_BH wrote...

NW: One of the things I like about this challenge is that participants write rather than simply posting videos. I rushed to post this one simply because it's my first and I'm kind of excited about it. But in general, I view pictures and videos as supplements to the text descriptions- not replacements. I'll be sure to post her journal soon. In the future, the videos and journals will be posted together with the video link at the bottom of the post.

If you dont like me sleeping a lot idc i need my traps(atleast i didnt remove the trap caps) though im tempted to and then use my houserule of i can lay as much trap as i can in a day per area but this gimp me early on more than anything) Ill spare the background story as i wont be doing this as rp run.

Irenicus's Dungeon lvl1
The first enemy is the lighting lamp so i just desactivate it in stealth and finish off the imp that it summoned.
Ogre magi: (i knew i shoulda went with the scared gibberling lol) So ogre magi with SCS are slightly trickier. They buff up a little more and im scared of direct confrontation. I also had forgot to lay down trap before so i run to the weapon stash near the cells. Close the door before he can enter, lay down a special and a normal trap stealth and open the door. He get hit by both trap and is slowed(wasnt lvl 11 yet so no held). Backstab him and continue running. Pass the corner and stealth immediatly. Continued to backstab him till he die by doing this.
2 Duergar group: A special trap + a normal trap for each do the trick, any survivor can be killed by backstab. Slept in between the 2 groups to get bcak some more trap. Basically i lay down a normal at my feet, throw a special at the group and immediatly stealth. Some run scared or go berserk(if they cant see me and are berserk they actually attack each other and its hilarious) and those that try to find me die to the normal. I just clear up the rest that is almost dead
Note for those who dont know, special trap can be thrown as far as your character range of vision. And i make extensive use of this.
Imp(all mephit quassit and imp will be called imp): A single backstab is nearly enough for them so all except the radiant one who can sleep me with color spray are done by backstab->Melee. The radiant get to have 2 trap and be baited to them.
2 Lesser Clay golem: 1 trap + 1 backstab usually kill them. I suggest 2-3 trap each because you might not kill them and they can 1shot you in insane.
I think this is when i leveled so +1 profiency in shortbow(this is for later and so i can use all the special arrows, it sux there arent anything similar for bolts) + 10 in find trap + 10 in picklock
More duergar groups:. Again like all duergar group, a special trap + a few normal almost kill them all and i finish w/e is left with backstab.
The library + Illyich: There it get a little trickier. I would deal with them like i would with any normal group but this wasnt a normal group(they are but they calls for help) And their help is Ilyich and is gang. The gang is really not scary and Illyich himself is no problem. The biggest issue is the mage. But since they all come in a weird fashion i have to improvise a lot till i can spot the mage. So i lay down my traps save 1 for the initiation. and take out most of them. I attrack them all the way down to the rielev's room where i barricade myself(they dont open doors luckily) So i sleep and get back some more traps. Some of them are waiting next to the door so i booby trap and stealth.
I had a lot of luck and the mage was standing right next to the door and was killed with a few other duergar. This saved me a lot of trouble because mages are annoying. And then i proceed to hide n seek with Illyich and a few duergar. followed by the imp in the library whom i just backstabbed.
The Cambion: I find and disarm the trap before it and then plan ahead. I never fought a SCS cambion before so the mirror imaged hasted juggernaut that blind and slow me and teleport everywhere i go really surprised me. K so i slept and laid down all the traps i could(and this was just 5!!!!!! instead of 7 because some of my trap from the earlier fight didnt go off and i have no clues where they were). I said im fine 5 should be enough. K so the fight goes on like this, i free him and run like hell while he buff up. I stealth and then he run into my trap. HE DOESNT DIE!!!! And so i backstab him. This is where it get tricky. K the slow from the special trap countered its haste but the ****er slowed me, so i countered tht with a haste potion. I manage to get around a corner and hide just before he frigging teleport to me which scared the **** out of me. I backstab him and run to the corner and do the same. But this time he didnt teleport to me so i sleep. It seem his spell dont comeback but my trap does but as soon as i wake up and lay down 1 trap he teleport back to me. It was a special so he is slowed and now i have the advantage. I continue going around the corner and laying down a trap before he decide teleporting to me. Some time i managed to stealth and lay a trap before he teleport to me so i backstabbed him.
I did this till he died.
The othyugh: othyugh are slow like hell but immune to normal weapon and/or piercing so trap dont work on them(though the effect of special trap work but it wasnt needed). Basically i backstabbed him and run back into the west corridor to stealth again. It take a while but eventually he dies and he wont even hit you once. Carefull though because attacking the othuygh attract the imp in the south corridor so lay down 1-2 trap for him or go backstab him first.
Next is some duergar in the east corridor. Usual tactic.
Trapped rooms: The first one is easy, i and disarmed the trap on the ground and the one on the chest. I picked up the cloud statue and tanked the trap that guarded a ring(usually its the necklace for mages/bard) I wasnt able to detect the trap so i just tanked the dmg and slept after being poisoned(its cheezy i know) though i can cure the poison with the bhaalspawn power but the poison tick rly fast and you have to time it correctly to not get interrupted. The helm of balduran has to wait because i know that i dont have the lockpick to disarm the trap and its the sort of trap that activate if you fail to disarm it + it instant kill me in insane. The dryads are rly happy that i got their accord, blabla. The second trap room is tricky. The trap on the floor are all detected but i cant disarm any. So i avoid them and go get the potion of master thievery(+40% lockpickpocket). I was almost on the verge of getting another lvl so i decided to wait else i would have died to the trap guarding the portal key(basically the same as the trap for the helm of balduran).
The air plane: There are 2 group of 2 imp so i dont take any chance and use special trap + 1 normal for both group. And there i lvl up. so everything in lockpick which make me reach 80. get the scroll of conjure air elemental(its worth a nice sum) and with my lvl i get another special and normal trap. But i decide to sleep outside the plane and come back. Throw a special at the group of 5 imp. they are all held so i throw another and this finish them off. I do the djinni's task and get a nice sword.
Trapped rooms again: with my new lvl i drink the potion of master thievery and disarm the trap infront of the chest guarding the portal key and the trap for the helm of balduran. The trap for the jewel of the equalizer cant be find neither is the one for the chest of the portal key so i tank both and sleep.
Irenicus's Dungeon lvl2
The imp portals: A series of special trap being launched make this encounter trivial.
The crazy clone: Lots of trap while she is fighting the shadow theif(launched the special trap before havnig sight because the theif doesnt last long enough for me to set 6 trap) and a backstab.
Duergar group+ imp: Usual duergar tactic except there is a imp in the lot that dies with them.
Duergar+ trap room: A special trap is all it take lol and i then proceed to disarm everything with the collected keys:
The vampire: Lots of special trap(i actually slept twice so i could have 6 specia trap laid down for the vampire and 1 for the group). After the vampire die, i launch a special trap and manage to kill the mage +1 theif. The remaining one was meleed.
The duergar groups at the forge: 1 special and i finish off w/e is left for both group.
The doppleganger: lots of trap and then i attack him and boom the traps activate lol. Followed by disarming and looting the room.
The Shadow thiefs group: Laid down a lot of special trap before trigerring the fight. And then this was easy as pie, except one stealthed thief didnt die so i had to wait till he isnt held and try to kill me.
Note, trap hit stealthed or invis target. Also you can lay down a trap even if the enemy is invis right next to you. As long as you dont see any enemy you can lay traps.
This is enough text for now XD

Valygar - Stalker 12
Yoshimo - Thief 16
With their newly acquired items, Athos and his group returned to Athkatla. They sold some of them to Ribald, then asked Cromwell if he could forge anything useful with what was left. He could indeed - Athos is now wielding a powerful club named Fulcrum (Item Upgrade), and they have the Holy Buckler of Amaunator (same) in their pack for when they encounter undead.
Fulcrum may be somewhat overpowered at this point of the game, it requires the Bone Club, which you normally get in Spellhold, so you can only forge it in chapter six. The randomizer was kind and gave me both base clubs early this time.
Here are the stats of Fulcrum (from Item Upgrade readme):
Fulcrum +4, +4 damage to Good/Evil/Lawful/Chaotics (cumulative), shards: 2/round for 4 rounds, grants Grand Mastery in Clubs
The group finish the Sarles and Dawn Ring quests, then realize that Athos only needs 1500 more XP for his level up. So I decide to take on Mencar and his group for what I expected to be easy XP. A fatal mistake. Almost.
If I remember correctly, the thief likes to run away when things go bad for him, so Athos and our summoned earth elemental (the only summon left) corner him. Valygar backstabs the mage to death while Yoshi attempts the same on Pooky, but fails. The two together then try to take him out the conventional way, but he gets off a confusion spell, hitting Valygar. Mencar and Smaeluv come over and almost kill him, until Athos and the elemental finish off the thief and come over for help. Pooky, still alive, casts Slow, affecting Athos and Valygar. He falls soon after to Yoshi's arrows, but Athos is now practically alone, slowed, fighting their two main fighters.
Everyone is drinking potions, but they hurt Athos a lot faster than he can heal up, so he has to run away - slowed. At one point he's down to 11 HP, waiting to cast invisibility from the Air Control ring to save himself, but needs to wait for his aura to clean. He barely manages to escape, drink another potion (I wasn't sure how long the casting time of that invisibility would be, while potions work instantly) and, together with Yoshimo and the no longer confused Valygar, escape down the stairs.
Nobody follows them, Mencar and Smaeluv go after the earth elemental instead (which didn't do much, but was good at soaking up some damage). Both Athos and Valygar are almost dead, so they heal up and wait for Slow to expire. Valygar and Yoshi hide, then they head back up. Mencar falls quickly to 3 hits from Athos and a Valygar backstab (Yoshi failed his), Smaeluv doesn't take much longer. Athos suffers a little more damage, but it wasn't critical this time. Our reward is the invisibility ring and, randomized, the Cloak of Stars. Meh.
Athos is now level 13. Not only does this give him another half attack (4 1/2 with FoA and Kundane or Fulcrum and some off-hand weapon), but most amazingly, another -2 to all saves! His save vs death is now at -3, while his save vs spells is at 2 after items. The latter still needs a few points, but he should now be pretty much immune to death magic, especially Finger of Death!
The sewer party, on the contrary, was a lot easier. Yoshi prepared 3 traps, among them two special ones hoping to hold some of their enemies. Valygar drew out Gaius' two True Sight, then they summoned their berserker and Efreet and buffed. Valygar can now cast Haste, which is quite nice for battles like this. Valygar went in to backstab Gaius and killed him with a critical for more than 100 damage (with Fulcrum). He turned invisible via ring immediately, which left the gang wondering what had just happened and why their mage was suddenly dead. Their cleric suffered the same fate soon after, and only then they engaged Athos' party. The special traps didn't work so well, only one of the goons was held, but at least Yoshi dealt some damage with them. The rest of the battle was just mop-up, using the berserker and Efreet to tank, the group didn't take a single point of damage. Valygar dashed in to backstab, then out to re-cloak, and repeat until nothing was left standing. Haste and Boots of Speed on a backstabber are fun. Also, Fulcrum is awesome for backstabs.
Loot: The Dwarven Thrower (remember: Athos is a dwarf!) and the regenerating ioun stone! Still not as good as a ring, but nice for resting anyway.
Athos and his group then entered Mekrath's lair. Those umber hulks used to be scary, but Athos with Shield of Harmony using a doorway as a bottleneck could handle them quite easily. He was quite unlucky with the hulks' attack rolls though: They rolled 4 20s and one 19 to hit him, so as a result, he took a bit of damage. The mirror for Mekrath was retrieved and Valygar went to return it. When Mekrath offered a slave in return, Valygar refused and Mekrath got angry - good thing Yoshi had laid a trap there beforehand. Mekrath already had a stoneskin up, so the direct damage was foiled, but some poison still got through during the next few rounds. Valygar ran away immediately and was fast enough to escape before Mekrath reacted. He cloaked and went back in to call a Flamestrike from his ring. This worked well and hit Mekrath, who failed his save, for over 30 damage. Yoshi's trap poison struck shortly after, and then it happened: Moral failure! Now that Mekrath couldn't cast spells any more, Valygar attempted to kill him with the ring's Burning Hands, but the damage wasn't enough. He switched to Fulcrum and, with 4 APR, went through the stoneskin and dealt the fatal blow before Mekrath regained his wits. In hindsight, I should have used Fulcrum + Kundane for 5 APR, but nevermind now. Athos and Yoshi stayed back near the stairs the whole time, just in case they'd need to make a quick exit and to protect Athos from unforeseen spell consequences. As mentioned, he has a save vs death of -3 now, can anyone confirm that this makes him immune to Finger of Death unless under the influence of Doom or Malison?
Still feeling fresh and not having much else to do, Athos and his group went back to the graveyard to take care of Lassal and Bodhi. Athos made short work of Lassal, then Yoshi set his remaining two traps for Bodhi. A few more hits from Athos and a backstab by Valygar drove her away in a very easy fight.
The group is well equipped now and could go to Spellhold at this point. Alternatively, there are the Windspear hills, the planar prison and the sphere left to be done. Decisions, decisions...

Athos - Barbarian 13
Valygar - Stalker 12
Yoshimo - Thief 16
The decision has been made: Off to Spellhold it is! Athos and his group go around to do some shopping before they leave, mostly spell scrolls as gifts for Imoen. We bought the book of infinite spells (starting at Fireball), turned the page (Burning Hands) and arrived at the last page already. What a short and useless book.
Upon arrival, 3 vampires await. They're eliminated quickly by Valygar and Athos. Just as quickly they clean out Galvena's brothel, poisoning the guards' drinks, then backstabbing them as they're unconscious. For the mage with Galvena, Yoshi tries a special trap; unfortunately he is now level 16, which means a rather useless resilient sphere. Worse, both Galvena and the mage are affected, so we can't even deal with them one by one. An earth elemental is prepared to draw out the mage spells. Two more elementals are needed until all dangerous spells appear to be gone: He had 2x PW Stun and several lightnings, among other things! While the mage is thus distracted, Galvena is killed and, once he's down to low-level damage spells, the mage follows suit.
Athos decides to kill Perth to take revenge on the Cowled Wizards. This turns out to be easy, Valygar just needs to run in and out, hitting and hiding. He was mazed once and narrowly escaped a Finger of Death, otherwise nothing bad happened. Perth used a trigger that included a Fireball; not a wise choice since Valygar has 100% resistance, but he himself apparently not... Whittling down the stoneskins while Perth's aura was clouded, Valygar eventually finished him off with a backstab.
They then went to see Desharik, and after cleaning out his house (he didn't seem to mind...), have him send Athos to Spellhold.
This is now the furthest I've ever gotten in a No Reload; I never reached chapter 4 before. The excellent saves and high hitpoints of Athos are quite useful, and I guess playing a mostly melee party with a good backstabber is quite strong early on. Once Imoen is freed, i.e. very soon, there will be a far greater arsenal of possible tactics available; will be interesting to see how it plays out.

SO
here's the Vieres update:
Back Home
After the quick escape from watcher's keep, the (now smaller) team headed out to kill some mind flayers after getting Viccy raised
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr819.jpg
They'd already looted the treasure. and cleaned out a few of the mind flayers. So this was just to bump up exp and maybe try to pack on a level before heading back to watcher's keep.
Viccy made a level and got "summon fallen deva"
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr820.jpg
But they got attacked by a Handmaden of Lloth and her pet demon on the way home
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr821.jpg
Viccy dropped ,but Viertes killed the attackers.
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr824.jpg
Then it was back to the mind flayers after getting her raised
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr827.jpg
where Viccy dropped again
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr828.jpg
But Viertes finished it
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr830.jpg
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr835.jpg
Viertes made another level in thief and picked up another time stop trap.
Watcher's Keep Prep
I kept thinking about how to deal with Watcher's keep. I started playing with protection spells. Without using any potions or consumable items, Viertes is a pretty effective tank, with the right buffs.
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr831.jpg
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr837.jpg
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr839.jpg
And she had some nice items
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr840.jpg
So I decided to get Viconia raised and go for it. Viccy can tank pretty well too.
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr842.jpg
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr844.jpg
So I fugured with a a couple protection spells (mirror image, stone skin, etc) and with an AC somewhere in the -12 range, they'd chomp through the demons.
Raising Viccy turned out to be a little more annoying than expected because of
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr841.jpg
but... whatever.
So it was off to watchers.
Watcher's
They made it there.
and tanked up
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr848.jpg
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr849.jpg
They had to cast buff spells, then pass through a portal into a magic-dead room. Then pass through another portal to get to the demons.
By the time the got there, most of their buffs were gone.
Before:
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr848.jpg
After
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr850.jpg
So... now what.
I faced a decision. I could have stepped back through the portal or I could have charged. My original plan was:
-- have Viertes use the green necklace to get some protection against some of the mind spells.
-- have Viconia pull in a fallen deva to run block.
-- have Viertes cast simulacrum (equipped with the wail of banshe and timestop).
-- Viertes: sim would cast timestop then start casting, then charge.
-- Viertes (real one) wold drop back behind the sim, then cast tenser's transformation and switch armor/shield/necklace, then charge.
-- Viccy would cast "call upon holy might" then charge.
I thought about .. should i roll the dice and try to attack? or should i step back through the portal again?
I figured.. heck.. it's just a game. What's a no-reload without risk??
What happened.
-- they popped in
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr850.jpg
-- viertes got the green necklace protections up.
-- the demons all charged Viconia
-- Viccy ran. I figured I could use her to buy a little time. She had boots of speed, so I was thinking she could get enough space to get a sanctuary up.
-- meanwhile, viertes got the sim out.
-- Viccy couldn't get any space opened up to cast. Every time she tried she got hit.
-- Sim started time stop, but she.. just.. wouldn't cast it. I don't know why. I really don't. I'm thinking she got mind-messed (maybe stunned?) You can't really tell with a sim. But each time i'd click on her, I seemed to be able to control her. I'd tell her to use the scroll. but .. nothing.
-- meanwhile, about half the demons split away from Viconia and targeted Viertes. She ran, hoping to get enough distance to cast Tensers. I figured that wouldn't be too much of a problem.
I figured wrong.
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr853.jpg
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr854.jpg
i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn49/rooTheDay_album/Baldr855.jpg
*cry*
I'm bummed. She made it all the way to 14th level mage/18th thief. And fell because i was dumb. Should have taken the safe out and come back to the room when she was closer to 18th level.
But.... *shrug*
I'll probably stay with Viertes for a while offline. Am thinking about another reload with either a cleric, a dual class thief cleric,or a multiclassed cleric/mage. But. that's it for now...
Make sure you send flowers for her funeral.

I'm sorry to see Viertes go B.Where. It was a fine run nonetheless. Good work! And best of luck with the rest of her game.
Best,
