Czarina Update 1
Following on from Czar's premature demise I thought I would have another attempt at a berserker to mage dual with Czarina. She went through the dungeon without any problems, though Ulvaryl got away. Unlike last time I dualled just before leaving the dungeon to make starting off as a mage rather easier.
Using blindness, invisibility and MMM Czarina set the circus to rights - getting up to mage level 8 in the process. With stoneskin and MMM available Cohrvale and Bregg were much easier than for Czar, though Czarina still had to resort to melee to finish Cohrvale off. Amalas was blinded to get Czarina to level 9.
I took more care in the sewers this time and was rewarded when claiming a new sword gave Czarina her berserker abilities back.
Edit: you know how you said try, try again - unfortunately that will be needed. Coming back through the sewers from the slavers I was conscious that I took a fractionally shorter route than normal to avoid the plank trap, but thought it would still be safe. Regrettably that appeared to be a somewhat rocky decision and greeted by a stony silence.

Pot is allergic to the sewers; he sneezes a fireball and accidentally incinerates a pack of hobgoblins. Cassia uses an ironskin to pick up the hand of Vallah, then the lover's ring. She casts chaotic commands and shapeshifts as Pot hastes us. Three myconids later we are giving Andorian the last rites.
Pot sneezes another fireball and a group of kobolds are roasted alive. Blackstrider crisps a second group of kobolds and the sewers are clear. Cassia ironskins four drain pipes and retrieves Lilacor. Haegan and his cronies are given a lesson in the 3 m's; melee, missiles and magic. Hendak rewards us handsomely and Blackstrider picks up a couple of axes (for which he has no natural talent, yet).

@Gate70 -- Sneezing fireballs doesn't sound comfortable at all. But keep it up, I guess -- you're looking good!

Krimlor & friends
A mad cleric is no match for us, Cassia having ironskins and chaotic commands plus two skeletons by her side. Renal Bloodscalp suggests we find evidence of treachery by Mae'Var - in addition to his agents incapacitating and delivering us to Irenicus of course.
Prebek and Sanasha are a brief distraction, then Suna Seni. Krimlor realises his vocation is calling via High Master Arval. A rest in the sewers allows us to obtain a necklace from the temple of Talos overnight, and a second rest before heading to the temple of Lathander in daylight seems a sensible precaution.
Arval berates Cassia, declaring her not the true leader of the group. Krimlor grins and shoves Blackstrider forward for judgement. Arval shakes his head and Krimlor is instead declared True Leader. A note is made to investigate the cult of the Eyeless, and also to obtain a sculpture from Sir Sarles when time permits.
Back to Mae'Var, to Edwin, a room of mephits and some injuries from battle. A rest in the Sea's Bounty Inn allows Alesia the chance to find and open a hidden door for another day. Once daylight returns we deal with two clay golems (Cassia claws, Krimlor Spiritual Hammer, Alesia with Arbane and Blackstrider wailing a golem dirge that resonates badly for them) then Rayic Gethras. He Sunfires the party but Pot survives by the skin left on one toe. A Blackstrider dispel has made him vulnerable to our attacks though.

Alesia is unable to deal with these two trapped containers until she applies the experience gained against Rayic. We take turns threatening Marcus, with five failures it looks bleak but Cassia is more imposing. Embarl happily hands his dagger over and we finally get evidence via Edwin then authorisation from Renal Bloodscalp. Time to thank Mae'Var for his earlier indiscretions. Renal Bloodscalp rewards us well for this task (four level-ups, short sword of backstabbing, information about Irenicus and more than enough gold to pay Gaelan Bayle).
Krimlor thinks he is doing well with a total of 102 kills, but Cassia has 242 and Grond 250. Alesia has 36, Pot 38 and Blackstrider 75.

We step outside, to be met first by Valen and then by Brus. Gaelan Bayle takes our money and Alesia learns a few new tricks. Aran Linvail discovers we have wasted no time in visiting him as night conveniently draws in. The Amulet of Power is an exquisite item, and can be used by any of the six of us! Cassia tries it first.
There is a reasonable amount of moaning while we wait for Mook (a bit early in predicting nightfall). Eventually we get fed up and rest, choosing to wake at 4am. Mook has arrived, and shortly afterwards so does Lassal. We soon scare him off but Mook has fallen and cannot be revived.
Hareishan is antagonising a trio of shadow thieves so Cassia, Grond and Blackstrider attack her, with two hits she is wounded and then Azuredged by a third. Aran Linvail sends us after a pair of deserters next. Pot has called dibs on the AoP for a while too.
We expect to find Renfeld in an ambush on our way to the Bridge district and so it proves. Back we go to the docks, warily keeping their eyes peeled for Sansuki (let's face it, these 6 characters should know the game inside out, upside down, backwards and by smell!)
With Renfeld returned to safety it is the turn of Xzar to make an appearance. Rylock is caught out by our prior removal of Prebek and we step inside the Harper Hold. Alesia rapidly loots the ground floor and we pause for thought before proceeding further.

We empty the remainder of the Harper HQ, including "Monty" the bird. He turns out to be Lucette and assassinates Xzar before our eyes then vanishes. The fate of Xzar turns out to be an eye-opener for Pot (level 11) and gives him the chance to learn a Mordy Sword spell (handy).
After heading to the City Gates and making an appointment with Flydian to help Trademeet we make for the feted out of town shopping centre. Brother Odren will only speak to Krimlor, later advising that we are not up to the task. Nonsense says Krimlor and we gain entrance to Watchers Keep. Blackstrider makes friends with Sister Garlena to procure a few bargains first. Two stoneskin scrolls, a gem bag and a potion container will do nicely.
Alesia and Serg memorise stoneskin so all three casters have it available in addition to the ironskins of Cassia. We enter the keep with two fire elementals and two nymphs so the welcoming mephits are quickly overwhelmed. Krimlor turns a group of shadows as Alesia, Blackstrider and Grond can safely pin them to the walls with their missiles.
Cassia is killed by a guardian golem but a strength of one spell means Blackstrider has stoneskin, mirror images and Lilacor while Grond uses Stonefire. We breath a sigh of relief as the golem crashes to the ground, only to see the second golem activate. Blackstrider stands firm and we return a pair of slippers to a priest. He shows Krimlor how to raise dead so we rest and revive Cassia. Our shopping spree commences as Alesia tackles various traps and locks.
Alesia. Crimson Dart +3. Case of Plenty.
Pot. Flesh Golem manual.
Krimlor. Small shield +2.
Cassia. Wand of the Heavens.
Grond. Ammo belt. Quiver of Plenty.

The characters of the city. A pompous sculptor, an ore merchant without ore, a duergar with issues, a lieutenant who looks to others to do his work, Carbos and Shank, a child-killer with no head, two deserter thieves, a guild contact. Del takes a smite badly, as does Sansuki - although we force the berserk warrior away and allow the thief to escape uninjured.

Rejiek Hidesman manages to get away but his rune assassins are no match for us. Alesia fails to learn a Mordy sword scroll though her thieving abilities are dealing with traps and locks aplenty. Krimlor tells her to get a move on, noticing she has started to lag behind on a regular basis and is demanding regular rests. Maybe she'll feel better in a day or two.
An orog ambush succumbs to holy smite and a fireball (although Cassia reminds Alesia that fire and fur don't go well together, 20+9 damage). Krimlor heals Cassia and the party return to Jerlia via Aegisfield. We're early, but resting for 8 hours is enough for her to turn up. Maheer bronzes our horn of Valhalla then we speak to Maheer, Tolgerias, Chief Inspector Brega and Sir Sarles (alloy).
"Sorry about the stains on the sculpture" says Krimlor to Dawnbringer Sain. "Sir Sarles was rude about the materials so we shoved this where the sun doesn't shine. It was quite a struggle but Cassia here gave it a good shove or three until he apologised".
Despite this our efforts are appreciated and we are asked to retrieve a stolen relic from the slums. Parisa tries in vain to kill us, then Travin quickly re-directs us to Borinall. Dawnbringer Sain is pleased to have the ring returned safely but has no other jobs for us. We consider the cult of the Eyeless but instead decide to return to Aran Linvail. He sends us after Bodhi but a brief switch sees Pai'Na left with one solitary spider after a brace of fireballs.

Haz is killed as we enter the vampire nest so we carefully work round the area until only Tanova is left. A series of summons are used until Cassia decides to melee and Grond supports with arrows. Krimlor dooms as Alesia malisons but Cassia shreds the vampire before we can add more spells. We head out to see what can be done about this strange mace.
On the way we rescue Tirdir, send Kamir to help a young orphan and convince Sethle the caretaker to look for a new career.
Cassia. Shapeshifter 12. 261 kills.
Krimlor. Fighter 9 cleric 9, 118 kills.
Alesia.Mage 10 thief 11, 61 kills.
Pot. Mage 11. 41 kills.
Blackstrider. Bard 12. 83 kills.
Grond. Archer 9. 287 kills.

I thought I would see if I could make it 3rd time lucky with a berserker to mage dual. A slight difference this time is that I've decided to keep the berserker going until level 13 rather than dualling at 9. While doing early adventures I'll leave some quest rewards open to give the dualled mage the opportunity of a flying start.
The only potential problem for Leery in the dungeon was that I'd forgotten to kill the golems when already badly damaged by traps (could have sworn I had, but runs are obviously blurring together). Fortunately the golems don't follow between levels and Leery was able to recover before facing them. There was a good finish when he managed to finish Ulvaryl off. These were his stats on emerging from the dungeon.
Normally I do the circus and then the Copper Coronet first, but those were left this time and the first action was suppressing the Suna Seni ambush. Leery was travelling with DUHM and rage already active and managed to kill the attackers quickly enough not to need any potions. The Renfeld ambush was a similar story.
After returning Renfeld, Leery killed Prebek & Sanasha, but then left the Harper HQ for now. Rage saw him almost complete the Orog ambush before leaving for Watcher's Keep. I didn't risk the traps inside, but just picked up the potion case.
No trouble clearing the ground floor of the de'Arnise Hold, although there was a nasty ambush on the way back from the city to sell some stuff - had to use 3 extra-healing potions when it took a long time to kill the mage. The yuan-ti mage on the second floor was potentially a nasty opponent, but he didn't like the flail of ages even with just the cold head on and failed to get a spell off against DUHM, rage and Arbane haste - his stoneskin contingency triggering too late to save him.
There was a slug-fest with Glaicas. The initial exchange ended with both of us choosing to run away at the same time! He was eventually hunted down, though Leery had to take a potion of speed himself due to the number of healing potions Glaicas had to keep himself going. Thus far Leery had been dressed in splint mail, so the armour is a major defensive upgrade to go with the offensive one from the flail.
A single rage saw all the golems, bar the iron one, attacked and killed individually. The Flail of Ages was fully upgraded, although the forge didn't recognise that - not awarding XP and still asking for more heads. It seemed to work OK though, the iron golem being slowed and slaughtered. I didn't want to use my only potion of invisibility, so Leery just ran past the umber hulks to place the dog stew before dealing with them separately.
The giant trolls with Torgal were dragged out separately and flailed first. Then Leery used DUHM / rage / Arbane to make the fight with Torgal a bit of a mis-match - he failed to land a blow. Leery went back to Athkatla leaving Nalia still in suspense about what happened to her father.
The end of the session saw Gaelen paid off and Leery heading to the Bridge Area. So far just used rage to get the berserker horn, but will be investigating the Skinner murders next

I've finished my distractions and am ready to resume playing Baldur's Gate. Been quite a while since my last update of this SCS run, so a quick run-down of the party:
Minsc - Ranger
Jaheira - Fighter/Druid
Misty - Monk
Yoshimo - Bounty Hunter
Forrest (protaganist) - Fighter/Illusionist
Aerie - Cleric/Mage
Our first challenge was Rayic's minions...no problem there.
Next battle was Rayic (we still don't have breach or spell thrust) himself. Battle took quite a while, with the melees unable to hurt him, however our ranged attackers were using non-magical ammo, so Rayic still fell and no one died.
Nexe challenge was Mencar Pebblecrusher, we need his full plate. We summoned two nymphs, but the key plays were done by Forrest - he did invis 10' so the party could get into position, and he also did emotion which managed to disable the mages. The melees still gave us quite a challenge, but by emptying our spell books more or less, victory was achieved. Full plate to Minsc.
Next up was Droth, to get full plate for Jaheria. 6 on 1, just no chance for him, full plate to Jaheira.
Now for a nice challenge, dealing with Maevar. The ground floor thieves managed to kill Yoshimo in one shot (probably because he had a ranged weapon equipped), but otherwise pretty smooth. I have to keep the AI off as their's a hostile commoner in there.
We buffed what we could before Maevar, including strength potion on Jaheira and haste potion for Minsc, that plus two nymphs and the party won without any casualty. We reported our success to Renal and he was happy (we left the upstairs thieves alone).
We were overflowing with potions, so headed to Watcher's Keep to get a potion bag. Aerie was tired so we rested on the lawn...but then who shows up but Revianne, Jaheira's friend? Revianne didn't believe us because of our poor reputation (6 - we had a disaster in the Sea's Bounty earlier) - a tense battle ensued. I could give a blow-by-blow, the net result is they were just better, in every respect - they had better clerics, better mages and better melees - we had no chance to buff before hand, though we did try to get a few buffs during the battle -- and Forrest fallls.

Will head back to BG 1 - enjoyed playing with Misty, so am thinking a MP run.

Krimlor and friends; a brief experiment
(Have just added Windows Vista dual boot to Ubuntu so this session was running while several years of Windows updates are being applied. Was playable but a bit laggy - would like to think it will be smoother when/if the updates finally complete).
Tirdir has pointed us to the Bridge district but things go wrong when Pot speaks to Am-Si. Cassia has blocked his path and he explodes before he can open a door. We all look in astonishment until Alesia mentions the three traps she had placed there much earlier. Pot steps inside the building and Camitis turns nasty while Reti runs. Pot steps outside in time to see Cassia hit Reti who explodes before anybody else can take aim. We all look in astonishment again until Alesia mentions the three traps she had just replaced.
Camitis gets a deadly dose of doom magic missile larloch melf acid arrow flame arrow command in addition to claws and arrows, then Lady Elgea is ransomed off for the silver pantaloons. Our reputation is sullied for all eternity (or at least the next episode).

As the skinner fight can be a problem if the backstabbers get lucky Leery prepared with potion of speed and stone giant strength as well as DUHM and rage. The first assassin fell before he could prepare, but the second did get one front stab in before joining his brother. As with other quests left reporting in for now. On emerging from the house Leery came across Hareishan assaulting some thieves. While she killed them Leery's fatigue ended allowing him to rage again and quickly kill the vamp.
Next up was Trademeet. There was another ambush on the way, but this time Leery had no trouble thanks to the hammering the Flail of Ages gave the mage. On arrival used a green scroll to protect against petrification and attacked the Dao. Taquee started running scared forcing Leery to use his bow - a second acid arrow killed the genie just as it got it's senses back. The Khan also ran away, but regained his senses as soon as he got outside the tent to make for an easier kill.
On to the grove. No problems with the trolls, but there was a potential threat from the first druid party. I was standing too close to the druid there and a horror cast at the trolls caught Leery as well. Fortunately nothing attacked while he was scared and he was back in control to take revenge on the trolls that had slaughtered all the druids.
Kyland Lind was quite a hard fight. Leery took a potion of insulation, but still soaked up a fair amount of damage from 3 or 4 call lightnings as well as insects (he also saved against a poison spell at one point) and he took 2 extra-healing potions during the battle. The tide of battle had already turned by this point. Kyland Lind then called for a retreat, but was too slow getting away himself (though one of his druids managed it). While the potion was still active Leery went to deal with Dalok - this time though with only 1 caster the flail stopped any spells being cast anyway.
After resting Leery raged through some myconids and a few more trolls and picked up Belm. I left the rakshasa for now and just watched Cernd tear Faldorn apart with 3 blows. I didn't report back on Leery's success (the follow-up quests in Trademeet are easy anyway and I'm not buying anything at the moment), but went back to the city. There I got the quest for Umar Hills and thought I would track down Valygar at the same time. However, his servant didn't like Leery's manner and sent for rather a lot of guards (who sentenced him to death). Only 2 of the Legionaries and none of the mages followed him out of the house, so he ran away easily, rested and then came back to find some evidence of Valygar's whereabouts.
At Umar Hills supplied some boyish fantasies, found a beljuril and deactivated a golem before heading for the ruined temple. There Leery ensured Anath has gnawed his last bone before turning to the undead. I needed to be sure that Leery had rage available for the shadow fiends and nearly miscalculated here when I thought there were only 2 of them in the chasing pack. In fact there were 3, but I noticed the third with a final check of the pack after the first 2 had died and dispatched it with a couple of rounds or so of rage still in hand. Worked through the remaining obstacles without problems to get to the Shade Lord and decided to risk taking him on - neither he nor Shadow Patrick managed to get a spell off. Decided to leave the Shadow Dragon until Leery has more than the 10 round level drain protection available from his rage.
He is now less than 100k XP away from dualling and counting down.

A reputation of 18 forces us out of the city; to Trademeet. It is immediately clear that we need to re-open the stores in town and at the druid grove so off we go.
Blackstrider uses Stonefire to thin a few trolls down while Alesia and Pot use their spells. Grond picks out some fire arrows outside a troll mound. Sensible buffs lead to a decent entrance and a good continuation. The final three trolls get more of the same.

Outside we clear a few more trolls and some druids before obliterating Kyland Lind and his druids. Pot has to apologise to Cassia for hitting her with a cone of cold during the dying moments.

Another group of trolls take a cone of cold followed by a fireball and Stonefire. Cassia shifts to human shape for a moment and Krimlor suspects the enemy tally is about to alter one way or another (be interesting to see how the THACO/APR trade works here).

Cassia. Shapeshifter 12. 268 kills.
Krimlor. Fighter 9 Cleric 9. 129 kills.
Alesia. Mage 10 Thief 11. 73 kills.
Pot. Mage 11. 43 kills.
Blackstrider. Blade 12. 95 kills.
Grond. Archer 9. 307 kills.

Leery is still going, though is lucky to remain in contention after 2 more close escapes.
Clearing the graveyard, the spiders underneath and starting on the Southern tombs got Leery to level 13 and he dualled to mage. Then he set about getting some easy XP:
- persuaded a paladin to adopt a young girl.
- spoke to the mayor at Umar Hills about Madulf and then reported the death of the Shade Lord.
- informed Nalia of the death of her father.
- told Lt Aegisfield about the skinner murders.
- learnt various spells collected in his travels so far.
- the newly identified berserk warrior defeated Amalas with a bit of ranged support.
- heading to the Docks to deal with Harper HQ Leery ran into the Sansuki ambush (still hadn't rested to get any spells unfortunately despite now being at level 9). A potion of clarity protected him from charm while he used up a lightning wand to kill 2 of the vampires (the third escaped in bat form). He then had to run from some remaining ambushing thugs and took the opportunity to rest before returning.
Completing Xzar's quest got Leery to level 10. With stoneskin and improved invisibility now available he moved on to more serious business by clearing the circus, with a bit of help from the berserk warrior.
With the ring of human influence available (for shopping purposes) he returned to trademeet and completed the quests there (including talking to Neeber, which I rarely bother with). The crypt, which is normally a doddle, proved difficult as I had not got enough damage spells memorized and the berserk warrior and genie left 3 skeletons and the last skeleton warrior to be killed by running round and round and slinging.
Now up to level 11 Leery returned to the city to immediately be greeted by Parisa. In the ensuing battle he was warned by the Cowled Wizards, but eventually managed to duck into the circus tent and finish her off with the help of the berserk warrior and genie.
Before moving on to the Copper Coronet Leery bought the Robe of Vecna to help with instant casting when being chased by vampires in future. Once there a first use of earth elemental helped deal with the Beastmaster and the hostel was soon under new management.
After returning a bear Leery came back to the Promenade with a view to buying spirit armour. However, casting friends next to the scroll seller was not a good idea
Running away from the final group of Cowled Wizards Leery was ambushed: that seemed like a suitable time to try a first use of cone of cold. Leery now had freedom to cast, but there were still several groups of Cowled Wizards on the loose, so he set about triggering fights with them. Skull traps and lots of summons sent in from distance whittled some away, there were also self-inflicted injuries, but most just eventually gave up and departed a while after battle was triggered.
Finally declaring the city clear Leery went to get the spirit armour scroll that caused all the trouble in the first place and then dived into the sewers. No mistakes clearing that and Leery moved into the Slaver HQ. Haegan and his merry men caused no problems, though the last troll got a reprieve when a hoarded MMM critically missed him lying on the floor. Leery used summons to draw out spells from the mages and finished things off with a quick skull trap.

Adratha has a bunch of potions - we might pop by later and scoop up a few. Instead we head on to deal with some overgrown mushrooms, Blackstrider using Lilacor for a change.
Cernd asks us to observe him facing Faldorn but we turn the tables; Cassia discovers that a were cat is no match for a panther (thought it might be the case but had to check). After a rest Krimlor raises Cassia and a rematch is called for. Two nymphs, two fire elementals and an insect summons overwhelm and chunk Faldorn.

Alesia has been a busy girl in Trademeet. Three traps outside a tent, three inside. A brief battle finishes the Dao djinn off before they can get too nasty. Neeber is his usual self so we chat until he wanders off.

Jenia and Tiris point me in the direction of Rejiek Hidesman, and once we have rescued Raissa our reputation is fully restored. Shopping time sees Krimlor pick up a dwarven thrower, Blackstrider takes Tansherons Bow while the party are still deciding who gets to wear the cloak of displacement and belt of inertial barrier.
