The joys of shapeshifting. I think the bear shapes retain their correct colours too. Should have picked up spells for the arcane casters (something like jelly, gnoll, ogre) and the cloak of the sewers for Krimlor or Grond. There's probably something else I can't immediately think of.

Leery Update 4

I decided Leery should be up to getting the goodies from the first floor of Watchers Keep now.  However, this was rather more difficult than I had hoped due to the presence of a pair of vampiric wraiths.  I've come across these in multiplayer games and their immunities, invisibility and regeneration make them tough to beat.  Magic missile is effective, but hard to use against two opponents.  After several unsuccessful forays Leery eventually succeeded in leading one through a pre-set cluster of skull traps.  Left on its own the other didn't last long.  By buffing Leery can now get negative saving throws as well as spell turning, deflection, mirror images and stoneskin so most traps can be handled safely.

Back in the city punishing some kidnappers got Leery to level 12 and access to 6th level spells.  Perhaps it is fortunate that the punishment dished out to Leery for claiming a ransom is not quite as severe as the one he gave the original kidnappers!

Then on to the Docks to thwart Lassal with the help of the golem (MSD successfully preventing domination).  Went on to track down the source of the evil to vampire HQ, but didn't try to approach that yet.  Instead went to do the Mae'Var quests.  After picking up the amulet Leery buffed up and hid in the corner while summons did the hard work against Rayic.  After finishing the quests summons also did the lions share in clearing the guild.

The easy XP from Mae'Var took Leery almost to level 13 and the difference was soon made up by tracking down Neb during an illithium hunt.  While waiting for the fake illithium to be made Leery finished off the Southern tombs. Had to use a potion of invisibility there when the vampire couldn't see the invisible stalker attacking him and fixed on Leery instead.

Also dealt with Pai'Na - a fireball roasting most of the spiders while a stream of MMMs stopped her casting.  There was the nice bonus of the green ioun stone there (I sold the one from Umar Hills, so Leery has not been protected against criticals recently - other than by stoneskin and mirror image of course).

Completed the Sir Sarles quest and went on to return the stolen temple ring and then chastise the Fallen Paladins.

Rescued Viconia before returning to the temple area and plunging into the sewers.  A sea troll and a rakshasa didn't last long.  Then prepared for the party by producing a full complement of summons for the first time.  Only the genie and Kitthix were killed in action.

Agreed to fetch the rod and started on that, but didn't fancy facing beholders at the moment so stopped at the reconstructed bridge.  Also picked up Firkraag's quest and travelled to the Windspear Hills - returned the acorns, but didn't enter the dungeon yet.

To get the last 10,000 or so XP needed to get berserker abilities back took on the party in the Seven Vales.  I was careless there and let the party see me before being prepared, but a hold monster kept Brennan quiet until he could be killed and a few scorchers soon had Leery levelling up.

That was generally pretty safe adventuring for Leery this time, though took a bit of time.  Now, with flail back in hand, he should be able to make much more rapid progress.

The Mantle of Waukeen is no longer in the Trademeet Tomb, and is instead out of reach of two feuding families. With little else to do in Trademeet we return to the Graveyard district where Kamir finally meets & greets Risa the orphan. Uncle Lester and a host of tombed undead are dealt with next, Pot helping Cassia in melee with his dagger.

Sceenshots showing current equipment/inventory
Cassia. Shapeshifter 12. 276 kills.
Krimlor. Fighter 9 Cleric 9. 136 kills.
Alesia. Mage 10 Thief 11. 79 kills.
Pot. Mage 11. 43 kills.
Blackstrider. Blade 12. 98 kills.
Grond. Archer 10. 313 kills.

Grond0/Gate70 multiplayer attempt 11: Sati (Grond0, protaganist) and Vurro (Gate70).

The archer and cavalier combination have completed BG1 and moved on to new challenges in Amn.

Starting off in cells they were released by Imoen and repaid her by telling her to take a hike.  A quick run through the dungeon saw no real problems.  All encounters were attempted, though Ulvaryl got away.  There were a fair number of rests taken to heal up - particularly in order to safely resist trap damage.

Sati no longer had the strength bonus from the Eagle bow used at the end of BG1 so Vurro was comfortably doing more damage in combat.  However, the large number of goblins that could be one-shotted by Sati allowed her to keep the small kills advantage inherited from BG1.
Vurro, cavalier 8, 88 HPs. 274 kills (40 this session).
Sati, archer 8, 69 HPs. 298 kills (55 this session).

We plan our strategy to deal with Lassal, easy to decide for five of us but Blackstrider has been collecting an arsenal of destruction and finds it difficult to choose. Eventually he selects Azuredge and the Improved Mace of Disruption remains unused.

A combination of traps, turn undead, greater malison and Azuredge clear out the remaining minions so Lassal dares to play in a spike room. He takes a hit from Azuredge and chases Stoneskin/Blur/Mirror Blackstrider towards the rest of us. Three traps slow him greatly and as we take aim a single arrow from Grond slays him.

Alesia suggests a rest before we stake him and a good job too; Bodhi arrives as Lassal perishes. Three more traps spring, we fail to doom her three times but a second malison takes effect. It's not long before she runs.

Pot gets two more magic missiles and Cassia a critical hit. Run faster next time Bodhi...

Leery Update 5 (final)

Back to Windspear Hills and Leery had no problems going through the dungeon and defeating Samia (except that his inventory is full so I'm now leaving almost all loot behind).  Conster was mainly flailed to death, though the invisible stalker got the final blow; he did manage one FoD spell, but that was turned aside by MSD.  After dropping a bit of equipment off Leery came back to settle his account with Firkraag.  A first use of simulacrum (by helm) allowed 2 golems and 2 efreeti to join the fray, but it was Leery himself who did all the damage (aided by a first use of improved haste) - Firkraag was still trying to batter down his stoneskins as he fell.

Pleased by his new suit of dragon armour Leery went looking for another straight away.  The fight with Thaxll'ssyllia started well when the dragon used his death spell on a berserk warrior leaving 2 golems and 2 efreeti to attack him from behind.   However, Thaxy then buffeted the simmy unconscious immediately (he never got up), while the initial summons died quickly from breath.  That meant Leery was tackling him alone for most of the fight.  I'd decided this time to go dual wielding (taking penalty of -2 / -6, but with benefit of 2 more attacks with the main hand via Belm & improved haste) - not sure if that was a mistake, but Thaxy certainly survived better than Firkraag.  Leery had to use a sequencer to renew his stoneskin at one point, but eventually was able to persuade Thaxy to attack a summoned berserker and then a skeleton warrior and a bit of uninterruted flailing from the side did the trick.

Next it was time for some lich hunting.  The City Gates lich survived the first throw of Azuredge and got improved mantle protection up.  However, its own timestop let that protection run out - as did its luck.  Leery got up to level 16 in the process.  He then took a brief detour to the Windspear hills to use some orcs and goblins as targets for the Rod of Terror until his charisma assumed godlike proportions.  Moving on, the Shade Lich was destroyed in Leery's first attack, while the Elemental Lich was another to make his initial saving throw, but fall immediately after a time stop.

Kangaxx put up a good fight initially.  His original lich form hid for quite a while allowing Leery's first simulacrum and spell immunity to disappear, but a daystar sunray eventually brought on the demi-lich.  He didn't last long - the helm simmy joining Leery in hastily attacking with daystar (whose bonus damage against undead bypasses Kangaxx's damage resistance), meaning Leery did not need to use the spell trigger prepared with a 3rd potential spell immunity.

Went to Umar Hills to collect Valygar's body.  Interestingly, after the armour had been hammered by the Flail of Ages, it proved a good fit for Leery.  Pity he's got no room in his backpack for such luxuries.

Next job will be for Leery to obtain a stronghold.

Edit: Leery's journey came to an end in the Planar Sphere.  After defeating the halfling warriors he activated the golem and was following it when this happened:
Image IPB
Reconstructing what happened I think that must have been a Finger of Death. Leery's unbuffed save vs spell was 1, but he had blur running, which would bring it down to 0, so was still vulnerable to FoD with saves at -2. His MSD had recently run out and I had replaced it with minor spell turning in the belief that also protected against up to 7th level spells, but alas not. I did also have the full version of spell turning memorized as well as spirit armour - in theory the latter should have been used at all times, but I do tend to get rather lazy in my buffing during long runsImage IPB.

Traps have done your last couple of runs; think you'll get them all memorised at some point? At least I doubt the wardrobe in Brynnlaw will get you...

Krimlor and friends

Aran Linvail wants to send us to Brynnlaw/Spellhold meaning Krimlor has to choose between a childhood friend (Imoen) or his vocation (Cult of the Unseeing Eye). It's a tough decision for a fraction of a second, then Krimlor announces we're going after the bag of holding Imoen before he gets bogged down in religious matters.

After dropping spare equipment onto the Black Market Thief table - slight delay while Blackstrider is convinced to at least leave one weapon behind - we meet up with Slime Saemon Havarian.

On our arrival we are met by Del, Valen and Parisia. They say a picture tells 1000 words; in this case it covers Parisia moving past Cassia to drain Krimlor who switches to an ineffective melee weapon, Pot being dominated,  a spinning Blackstrider being dominated, Grond resisting domination but changing from ineffective arrows to a mace, Alesia mirroring to avoid ex-friendly fire and Krimlor using a spell he forgot to replace after helping out in Trademeet.

(it also shows I've copy/pasted shot 2 twice and deleted shot 3. Oh well).

Chremy is dead but Ginia still offers to show Cassia her "diddies" - not today thanks. Instead we find her a way off the island thanks to Calahan. The Festhall is closed down after our rest at an inn is disturbed by an assassin, then we deliver Claire to Golin before heading over to Perth the Dead Adept. Cassia has a slight disaster with the book of infinite spells (each page turn takes two attempts and it goes from fireball to lightning to burning hands which is the last page; no spell turning for her now so will RP it as clumsy with her paws).

Pot helps Cassia melee some lizard men then we enter Spellhold.  "The Co-ordinator" is blocked at one point and we have to twiddle our thumbs waiting for him to return. He reveals himself as Irenicus and Krimlor loses his Bhaalspawn powers as part of a dastardly experiment. Muttley Cassia reacts by turning into a greater were cat then we suggest Imoen join us, only for her to decline and disappear. That's our Imoen (she casts powerword: crash as she leaves so we have to enter Spellhold for a second time).

Krimlor carefully lays a wreath at the spot where a dwarven hero of his called Kaxir fell to a greater mummy.

Cassia is dominated by Dace Sontan (silly mistake) and Grond finds himself attacked on two fronts. A volley of magic missiles and a spun Azuredge injure Dace but Grond has to run, meaning Krimlor is next. Dace is down and Alesia summons a berserk warrior as we run from Cassia. When she has cooled down we take stock; Grond has been saved by the Mace of Disruption but Krimlor has been level drained (to 6/6) and lost his lesser restoration spell (this will be hilarious).

We deal with a Mist Horror, a series of summoned creatures, kobolds guarding a huge gem, a greater wolfwere, pit fiend and a Ruhk. A few puzzles later and we exit into the next area. Blackstrider has part-filled our new bag of holding with an assortment of weapons.

Grond0/Gate70 multiplayer attempt 11: Sati (Grond0, protaganist) and Vurro (Gate70).

The duo made good use of a short session tonight.  The first order of business was to restore the circus to normal.  Next the Copper Coronet was provided with new management.  Before heading into the sewers a bit of travel in the city triggered the Suna Seni ambush - the mage successfully got his mirror images up, only to be one-shotted anyway by a precise arrow from Sati.

With Arbane now being dual-wielded Vurro was protected from hobgoblin hold persons and quickly chopped his way through all-comers to acquire Lilarcor.  The duo tried resting to get up to maximum XP prior to
taking on Captain Haegan next time.  They did eventually manage that, though were interrupted 6 or 7 times in the process.

The archer and cavalier continue to be well matched.  Vurro cut back most of Sati's slim kills advantage during this session, but the Tuigan bow should help her keep closer touch in future.
Vurro, cavalier 9, 100 HPs. 319 kills (45 this session).
Sati, archer 9, 78 HPs. 328 kills (30 this session).

Yuan-ti thenminotaurs take an eternity to kill (note to self, don't full-format an SD card while gaming) then Blackstrider is almost killed by a couple of paintings. Cassia grabs a third painting and empties a fountain as he slowly recovers via a ring of regeneration.

A few creatures and golems later Cassia is wearing the latest boots of getting into trouble first speed. Two more trolls are eliminated with the help of a fire elemental then Krimlor wanders off to find Bodhi - mistake. Her two companions hang around, then one departs but the other is obviously hungry. Krimlor manages to run in the nick of time and glugs a healing potion as his companions stage a last-second rescue.Image IPB

At one point Krimlor had 1hp left and was being chased by a vampire. He may have survived but is now fighter 4 / cleric 4 and wondering why the fnargle he didn't borrow the AoP or iMoD.

Cassia and the fire elemental attack a gauth while Blackstrider and Grond provide ranged cover, then Cassia speeds back to grab a pair of frosty-toed boots. A rest turns Krimlor into the Slayer again, good job he slept the other side of a wall to everybody else.

The next few areas are easily dealt with, retrieving a protective cloak and a undeadly club before we are returned to Spellhold. Saemon Havarian greets us but instead we head for Lonk the Sane - he may be prepared but Alesia points out the three traps he is standing on...
Image IPB

With Lonk down Cassia scares Irenicus off as the rest of us re-position - Grond takes a couple of hits on the way.
Image IPB

His "clones" of us last mere moments under malison, slow and hold but then a group of murderers flank us. Blackstrider decides to Defensive Spin as the rest of us re-position.
Image IPB

Saemon Havarian helps us out but Alesia reckons there are a few more items to loot so we step inside again and leave her to it. Back at Brynnlaw Krimlor buys all ten lesser restoration scrolls. Motto - learn from your mistakes.

Cassia. Shapeshifter 13. 314 kills. Perth the Adept.
Krimlor. Fighter 10 Cleric 10. 157 kills. Vampire.
Alesia. Mage 11 Thief 12. 87 kills. Guardian golem.
Pot. Mage 12. 52 kills. Guard captain.
Blackstrider. Blade 14. 116 kills. Guardian golem.
Grond. Archer 11. 358 kills. Lonk the Sane.

After several tankards of ale, steins of mead then goblets of wine we stagger to the door of the inn - careful to let Saemon exit first.

Grond borrows the boots of speed as Pot casts haste; he hides in the shadows and grabs a pirate horn un-noticed. Saemon is stealing a ship as we return, and once more Alesia smiles as three traps thin down some aggresive pirates.

The ship is boarded by Gith - a pitched battle sees it scuttled and we find ourselves in an underground cavern. After proving we are the prophesised surfacers we quickly agree to help a king with a rebellious prince. A sea zombie lord infects Cassia with a disease and she perishes despite our efforts to keep her alive. Once the battle concludes Krimlor rests and raises Cassia. She acts as though nothing has happened and the prince is soon gurgling his last. Cassia takes the gauntlets of crushing (pity they don't work for shapeshifters) and throws a magical rope down into the Underdark.

Three illihid are flayed, then a group of drow priestesses donate their full plate (Krimlor) and chain mail (Alesia and Blackstrider). Three spore colonies later we have entered a Swirf village where all but Krimlor and Cassia are held by a balor. Krimlor casts remove paralysis and we eventually wear the balor down - after several stoneskins, mirrors, ironskins, more mirrors, defensive stances and a few potions. Afterwards Krimlor admits he badly under-estimated that battle.

A faceted imprisonment chamber is emptied then we help Vithal, but on the third planar doorway an elemental is already waiting and attacks him. We kill it, then the next one and the one after that but cannot get them to switch to one of us. Unable to move away without leaving him vulnerable we try again and again to distract one of the elementals but to no avail. With Vithal dead we leave - having looted his corpse - that's what he'd have wanted.

Pot has learned Improved Haste (imprisoned gith drop) while Alesia has failed to learn her version of it (purchased). Two level 9 spells dropped by Vithal are also fluffed but we have learnt two freedom scrolls together with one spell immunity scroll.

The dragon cavern and Ust Natha beckon but we are tempted to explore further afield instead. Grond can smell Kuo-toa to the west, and illithid/beholders to the south-east. There is some debate as to which order these three areas should be attempted.

a) Kuo-toa. Must be the easiest.
B) Illithid. Skeleton warriors & Mordy swords unavailable.
c) Beholders. No shield, no enrage, orbs ignore sanctuary - ugh.

Cassia. Shapeshifter 13. 362 kills. Perth the Adept.
Krimlor. Fighter 10 Cleric 10. 177 kills. Bone golem.
Alesia. Mage 11 Thief 12. 97 kills. Guardian golem.
Pot. Mage 13. 58 kills. Guard captain.
Blackstrider. Blade 15. 125 kills. Balor.
Grond. Archer 12. 390 kills. Lonk the Sane.

Krimlor and friends (mini update)
Krimlor suggests we tackle the kuo-toa first. Cassia warily deals with a beholder - a magical cloak protecting her even when held by two remaining gauth. Grond has to be held back with his bow, instead we send in hasted skeletons and ettercaps. The gauth remain focused on Cassia and are easy prey to the summons, so we send them to the next room where kuo-toa shred them. Cassia recovers in time to help more hasted summons and we pick up a jar of tainted tadpoles.

Blackstrider takes a flamestrike trap in his stride, laughing as it hits a mirror image instead of him. We carefully buff (summons and five of party hasted, Cassia Improve Hasted for 10APR mwahahaha) before Kitthix tries to entice demogorgon's statuesque guardians out. After a few seconds Krimlor shoves a summoned ettercap forward instead and five demon knights attack. Alesia almost kills two with her snares, meaning the party can finish them quickly. To our surprise the flesh golem has mauled a third and an invisible stalker finished a fouth off. Blackstrider upgrades his strength girdle from 19 to 21 and hands his old one to Krimlor. He hangs onto a huge Warblade, insistent that someday he'll work out how to wield it...

We clear the remaining kuo-toa without incident then set about their prince. He's a tough critter but Cassia is well-protected behind her ironskins and we soon have him on the floor. Only then do we taint the nearby breeding pool. We make our way back to the main area, uncertain where to head next until Blackstrider memorises a 2nd scroll purchased from the swirf. A brief rest confirms he can now summon two skeleton warriors a day and he suggests we go bash some brains.

(only at this point do I realise I forgot the drow party guarding the underdark exit - might have to back for them before being escorted out).

Ok, I guess I'll give it another go. I have a basically vanilla installation with patch, fixpack and some ease of use tweaks. I have some NPC mods that are not relevant and I'm sure I'm forgetting something...

Silenceall the (solo) Elven Sorcerer (sooner or later I'll figure out how to post screenies)
S 16, D19, C 17, I 11, W 18, Ch 9
(oh ya, using an SK'd BoH too)

I relased Jaheria and goaded Minsc into breaking out. I've escaped the House of Pain and restored the Big Top. I've met Gaelen and told him "I'll be back with the money." I went to the Government District, where I met Delon, Madeen and Tolgerias and purchased a magic license.

I'm back in the Copper Coronet where I've agreed to help Nalia and Lord Jierdan.

At Level 11, my current spell book consists of:
Chromatic Orb, Id, Magic Missile, ProEvil, Shield
Blur, Glitterdust, Knock, MAA, MI
Haste, MMM, Remove Magic, Skull Trap
Emotion, Improved Invisibility, Stoneskin
Sunfire, Animate Dead

No, lost quite a few good spells so far - I prefer it that way as I have to adapt to the outcomes.

Krimlor and friends
, micro update

We back-track for the drow first; all goes well until Pot fluffs his Spell Trigger memorisation. Oh well, at least he is keeping himself out of the way of trouble by using a sling and bullets now.

On to the illithid, where something doesn't look quite right (screenshot  should be read left-right & top-bottom). Cassia goes for the more troublesome enemy while the rest of us try to kill the other one quickly enough to help her. The encounter can be timed by how long Pot took to summon the flesh golem and cast haste. The entire encounter only lasted a few seconds longer.

Grond silently rotates the party map by 90 degrees and hands it back to Krimlor.

Grond0/Gate70 multiplayer attempt 11: Sati (Grond0, protaganist) and Vurro (Gate70). Final update.

A bit of over-confidence spelled the end of this run after generally smooth progress up to now.

This session the duo had finished off the slavers and gone to Watchers Keep to pick up items there (Vurro dieing of a Finger of Death trap there).  Back in the city they started the Mae'Var quests and rescued Renfeld.  Then attacked Prebek to try and earn the right to enter Harper HQ.  This battle turned sour when:
- Sati got too close to Prebek, when trying to hit him before his buffs fired, and attracted his attention.  Should really have run immediately, but tried using fire arrows to disrupt Prebek's spells.
- Vurro, expecting a hold person, wielded Arbane rather than Lilarcor and got confused.
- the hold person was sent at Sati instead (who carelessly had no defense against it on him).
- Vurro decided to wander round the room ensuring the spell casters would concentrate on the motionless Sati and some summoned kobolds soon slit his throat.
Image IPB

Vurro, cavalier 9, 100 HPs. 336 kills (17 this session).
Sati, archer 9, 78 HPs. 356 kills (28 this session).
