Some of you may have heard about the balloon accident in Luxor. I was actually in a nearby balloon at the time. I saw the initial malfunction, the people jumping, and -ultimately- the carriage coming down in flames. It was a terrible thing to witness as you might imagine.
In any event, I'll probably start playing and posting again relatively soon. I'm a bit more interested in Alicia at this point, so I may continue her game. We'll see.

Yup. SI:D foils True Sight.
SI:C would have stopped Symbol Stun (it works against Maze and the Power Words as well). I often layer in SI:C when facing enemies that may toss those spells.

Aye, I've heard about that... That's a horrific experience indeed...

I'm looking forward of that. Alicia or Avatars - all the same are good =)

Wiven, halfling assassin
Imoen, Minsc and Jaheira have left without Wiven so nobody observes a near-fatal error; never attack a lesser clay golem from behind when it can block you into a corner. Wiven knew it couldn't be backstabbed but her standard routine of attacking from behind is hard to break. Two of four healing potions are used to stay alive while the golem is battered with a magical quarterstaff. Once that minor mishap is out of the way Wiven clears the starting area and rescues Yoshimo. He grabs as much loot as he can carry and vanishes so Wiven has to start collecting again.
A mephit portal room is cleared without too much trouble thanks to poison arrows (the trouble was that she wasted time discovering her dagger couldn't reach the portal mephits) and Wiven has to choose between making her escape or back-tracking to examine a locked portal.
Session 45 minutes game time.
After releasing a genie Wiven decides the mephits in this plane are too risky, and leaves them for a hardier adventurer to deal with. Nothing else is left alive in the complex. Or dead.
After escaping with what she can carry Wiven hides as Irenicus and Imoen are arrested, then stores some equipment, sells some more and purchases a gem bag plus scroll case.
Session 30 minutes. Total 1 hour 15 minutes.

Wiven requires a couple of minor healing potions while at the circus. With Aerie and Quayle free plus a mother and son re-united there is just time to do some trading before visiting the slums. Gaelan Bayle has a proposition for Wiven so she heads to the docks after eliminating Cohrvale and Bregg in a three lap circuit of the slums. Lehtinan also wants to introduce Wiven to the seedier side of life but that can wait a while.
A mad cleric survives a poisoned backstab and Wiven fails to hide twice. The cleric begins casting again and although she is at the district exit Wiven decides to try an arrow of biting; it works but leaves her with four arrows +1 and 40 arrows. Renal Bloodscalp wants evidence that Mae’var has turned rogue (!) so Wiven agrees to look into matters.
First though, she needs to consider her equipment. A dagger +1 bounced off Hareishan and also left her vulnerable to the mad cleric while Cohrvale and Bregg were difficult to put down. Either a heavier dagger or an alternate weapon may be in order (to show my lack of solo thief experience in BG2 I’m going to RTFM for suitable weapons. Dagger of the Stars or Staff of Rynn are obvious ones but there might be something more appropriate for Wiven, Stiletto de'Marchess at some point for example but think it is tucked away somewhere and may want to beeline it).
Session 25 minutes. Total 1 hour 40 minutes.

Final update...
Suna Seni and her gang attempt an ambush but Wiven is hidden in the shadows and moves away to cast DUHM then returns for a backstab - but forgets the poison. She runs, poisons her blade and front-stabs Suna Seni but is hit by a lightning bolt. After glugging an extra healer Wiven hits Suna Seni again, grabs a magical short-sword and runs as another spell is being incanted.
The Temple of Helm want Wiven to investigate the Cult of the Unseeing Eye as well as commission a sculpture from Sir Sarles. It is now 7pm and the priestess of Talos has had a long day and retired to her chamber - meaning Wiven can grab a gaudy necklace. She picks jobs from Sir Ryan Trawl, Delon, Tolgerias and Sir Sarles.
150lb of alloy slows Wiven down so she stores a lot of equipment (uh-oh) then makes her way back to Sir Sarles. He has a tantrum but the Temple of Helm are pleased with the result and tell Wiven to go help Dawnbringer Sain, so another job is in the offing.
Unger Hilldark points Wiven to Neb the Child Killer. On the way she helps Reynald de’Chatillon and speaks to Rampah, Rose Boquet and a merchant before accusing Rejiek Hidesman of being a murderer. She’s not foolish enough to chase him downstairs but instead uses her new skills to safely retrieve and identify a silver horn of Valhalla.
On to Neb, who may have a suitable weapon for Wiven. She finds herself blocked in and panics as she can’t reach Neb (extreme carelessness here). He is almost dead but glugging potions while she is level drained and taking damage plus poison while the berserk warrior died before materialising. An extra healing potion is followed by an invisibility potion, then Wiven realises she has forgotten to pick up her spare equipment (uh-oh). Wiven has no choice but to try a poison arrow +1, and misses. Neb the Halfling Killer has a final “Tee Hee” as his spirit children claim another victim.

Alicia is currently in Spellhold at level 21. Her posts are lagging behind her progress of course. This will be the last
post on her pre-hold announcement adventures.
Just prior to starting the Planar Prison quest, Alicia picked up her first HLA, Improved Alacrity. Since I opted to leave
Vecna un-nerfed in this run, she has become outrageously overpowered for the vast majority of SoA encounters. Many of her late SoA encounters will undoubtedly appear the same. I’ll cover this quest in some detail, but afterwards, I’ll likely skimp and focus on the few encounters that will require more subtlety.
Her battle plan at ths stage of the adventure is pretty simple: buff and then explode. First the buffs. Alicia’s standard buff list (in rough order of casting) is now Stoneskins, Spell Shield, Spell Trap, Spell Deflection, Protection from Energy, Globe of Invulnerability, Improved Alacrity, Pro Evil, Shield, Blur, Mirror Image, Resist Fear, Improved Invisibility, Spell Immunity: Abjuration, Spell Immunity: Divination, Protection from Magic Weapons. The logic here of course is that SI:A, SI:D, II, and Spell Shield will lock in the other buffs- with SI:A and SI:D thwarting Remove and True Sight, II all targetted debuffers save Spell Thrust and Ruby Ray, and Spell Shield covering the latter two. So long as she counters attacks on the Spell Shield with a re-cast, her defenses are secure. Note that the long duration, non-zero casting time spells are cast before Improved Alacrity in order to maximize in battle IA time.
With that all in place, she's ready to explode. By entering battles with IA running -and only tossing zero casting time spells- she ends most battle before enemies can act. Case in point...

A Sunfire x 3 Trigger followed immediately by a Skull Trap x 3 Sequencer and a sprinkling of additional Skull Traps wiped out everyone in an instant. The Ice Storms were gratuitous and perhaps unwise since poor little Tagget got caught in the AoE.
Sorry fella! How 'bout a Pro Energy?

Same story in the quadruple caster battle. Ruby Rays took down the GoIs before the Skull Traps and Ice Storms were unloaded.

It's not hard to guess how the Warden battle went is it?
Ruby Rays.

Skull Traps.

Another Ruby Ray for the Warden followed by Ice Storms, Skull Traps, and Sunfires.

The Skull Trap Sequencer took care of the Warden's Chained Mordy Swords.

And -sadly- the Ice Storms took care of Tagget...

You'll likely see a lot of the same in upcoming battles (minus the dead gnomes that is...)

Shortly after I resumed playing Alicia, Bodhi and her kin got a taste of arcane overpoweredness. Stari and Maldor were capably revenged.
Skull Traps for Gellal.

Sunfires for the Clay Golem.

Tanova and her bud were insta-killed with a Skull Trap barrage and a Horrid Wilting x 3 Chain.

I don't know about you, but I'd prefer not to be Lassal at this point...

Bodhi caught a trio of LRs followed by a lot of hurt. She never reached melee range.

It was nice to tag her with 3 Wiltings and 6 Skull Traps as she ran off...

Anyhoo. Combat is pretty silly now of course. I may restrict her use of IA going forward.

And...

I'd advise against this of course- unless you are in the mood for some goofy fun...
I'll post on the Irenicus battle tomorrow.

I don't suppose you could post a short video of a similar obliteration?

Many moons ago, I posted an Ascension Insane solo with a level 23 Sorceress named Alanis. It's a shame that post was lost with the transition to the new forums because it might have been a helpful learning tool for some.

The battle with Spellhold Irenicus went smoothly. Jon managed to hang around for awhile due to his specific protections and Alicia's lack of Breach, but once the inmates Breached him, he fell quickly.
Alicia began the battle running her standard buffs- including Improved Alacrity. She opened by taking down Jon's spell protections to clear the way for a Breach.

The inmates did their part.

And then the finish.

Interestingly, Jon didn't spawn an Alicia clone for some reason. Not sure why.
Alicia will set sail with Saemon tonight or tomorrow.

A.

Tyran, gnome berserker (Grond0), & Titas Adukaars, dwarf fighter/cleric (Gate70)
After passing through most of BG1 untroubled T&T started off BG2 in the dungeon. As expected berserk immunities on top of 2 capable fighters made pretty short work of that. Ilyich and his crew did more damage than most of the opponents, without ever being threatening. There was one oddity when a salt mephit managed to stun Titas. Tyran sneered at him as he raged in preparation to show him how it should be done. However, the gods don't love prideful mortals and, only about a round after raging, he found himself stunned too. There was no real danger here as the stun passes off quickly and Titas soon dealt the death blow. However, it would be nasty if that happened against some other opponents. The firebreath potion was put to good use to finish off Ulvaryl.
A quick trip provided new management at the circus, before the duo moved on to the Slums to oversee another change at the Copper Coronet. They are now in the sewers underneath the inn on their way to confront the slavers.
Combat stats (continued from BG1):
Tyran, berserker 9, 86 HPs, 251 kills.
Titas, F 8 / Cl 8, 84 HPs, 311 kills, 1 death.
Titas had a definite edge in the second half of BG1 thanks to his dual-wielding abilities and has continued showing that in BG2. His spells can also come in handy to boost kill numbers - a few holy smites in particular giving him a clean sweep of a number of the goblin clusters in the dungeon.

I'm pleased to report that Alicia has moved on to ToB. There's a lot more to cover than the Irenicus fight of course, but since that battle was a fun one, I feel like skipping ahead. I'll post on Alicia's prior battles if there is interest.
Ok: So: The Jon-Jon fight.
The principle lesson of this battle was simple: I am off my arcane game. Fortunately, Alicia over-came my spellweaving rustiness and got into enough of a groove to finish off Jon-Jon.
Alicia prepped for battle by taking her standard buffs and then wishing up a fresh spellbook. She opened with Chain Contingency: Limited Wish, Teleport Field, Teleport Field. Strange Chain huh? Those of you who remember Alanis know where this is headed...

The point here is to create an area where a PI can safely cast Improved Alacrity. A Teleport Field filled with bunnies isn't the only way to do that, but it's a fun one. I just love watching bunny-hunting demons swirl arround, or even better hearing Slayer Jon yelling "Die all of you! Die!" while munching on wabbits...

Sadly, while Alicia's opening was good for some laughs, it didn't accomplish much: Jon interrupted the PIs intended barrage with a Time Stop and then injured the real Alicia soon after, unsummoning the PI.

That forced Alicia to reset. Alanis was pretty skilled at establishing PI patrolled Teleport Fields, Alicia less so (Hopefully she'll work out the kinks before reaching the Throne).
This was Alicia's first successful set. A Teleport Field Sequencer allowed Alicia's PI to cast Improved Alacrity. And after erecting some buffs, the PI unleashed a barrage of zero casting time spells.

Importantly, while the damage spells were flying, the Djinni's started popping up.

Second set. This one started using Chain: Limited Wish, PI, ProMW

The last of the Demons.

Once the demons were out of the picture, Alicia's PI wished up another fresh spellbook for her and then got to work on Jon: debuffing him, lowering his Magic Resistance, and then tagging him with PW:B.

Blinded, Jon ran out of the PIs sight range. Farsight from the Book of Infinite Spells allowed her to keep track of him but since her book was depleted, there wasn't much she could do.

Fresh PI now: the still-blinded Jon's time is coming to an end...

And the finish.

Alicia will take on Illasera tomorrow.
Best,
A.

Belt sends Nael on a little trip to Amn and Mae’var arranges an ambush.
After the inevitable torture from Irenicus Nael is helped by Imoen before she flees with Minsc and Jaheira. Nael attempts to follow but is repeatedly delayed. E.g. being caught by two radiant mephits and surviving each, killing Ulvaryl before she can kill any thieves so having to kill them too, getting badly mauled by Illyich and his duergar. Nael took one short-cut, deciding not to try the mephit plane even though the Sword of Chaos is lost
A hefty critical killed one lesser clay golem, the other took two hits. Yoshimo left with a pile of loot and potions while Nael used an unidentified protection from electricity scroll to loot a trapped bookcase - a second lightning strike finished off Frennedan for a change.
Despite all this Nael caught up with Imoen but is too loaded up with loot to prevent her from being arrested by Cowled Wizards.

He decides to sell various items, store some more and work out how to help Imoen. Looking for clues in a nearby circus seems like a good idea - a single DUHM with one kai soon has everything back to normal although Nael flees as he catches sight of Quayle.
Gaelan Bayle has a deal to make but Nael can’t afford the fee. Instead he purchases glasses of identification to go with his gem bag and scroll case. He is then ready to wander the streets in search of Suna Seni. After purchasing a scroll in the Temple visit he travels to the Docks and Graveyard before a journey to the City Gates is interrupted. The order will be arcane caster, divine caster, ranged attacker, melee attacker, leader; although Nael is blocked and takes several seconds to reach the first enemy they aren't able to capitalise on it.

Their loot is gathered up then Nael finds time to visit Sister Garlena for a potion case and sell a few trinkets. He returns to the Graveyard to use a protection from poison scroll picked up during the earlier temple district visit. The small spiders are annoying but the sword spiders have a serious bite - two cure light wounds, five healing potions and five extra healing potions are used in remarkably short order. In eturn though Nael will come to value Kitthix and a ioun stone greatly.

Kensai 9. 260 kills in BG1, 437 total, Ulvaryl.
(Still thinking at what level he would dual-class, and to thief or mage. Decisions decisions - post from Grond0 in BG1 thread is leading me down the mage path).
