Thanks Serg!

(EDIT: I'm clearly becoming addicted to the hide-hole. I need to ween myself off of it...)

Nice work there Alesia_BH. Good luck in the rest of your journey, you are almost there! By the way is this a trilogy run? I'll need to update the starting post if you succeed against Melissan.

Thanks Corey!

(And yes: It's a Trilogy run.)

I'm not exactly expecting you to have to update the list though, sadly. I suspect PI stasis won't be safe at The Throne with the SCS scripts and I'm having trouble seeing how to do it without PIs.

We'll see.

Best,

A.

Boon's journey came to an end with another victim for the vampires. I was using improved invisibility from the ring of air control to defend against Lassal (after he killed Mook) and it ran out rather quicker than I expected. It's a pity you can't see the script entries after death as I'd thought there were only 6 or 7 rounds gone and Lassal would probably have been dead within a round.

Oh well - back to the drawing board.

Grond0 - wasn't Boon a fighter/thief? Isn't the charm helmet or SoH the perfect defense to their charm attempts (I assume you got charmed)? Sorry to hear of your demise in any case...good luck your next attempt.

I had obtained the charm helmet and probably would have worn it, but couldn't be bothered to go back to the Promenade to collect it - usual problem of too much equipment for a solo character to manage with available inventory!

Grond0 - the rules specifically state that it's OK not to have to play the "inventory" game - bag of holding for solo players has always been accepted by participants. Unless you are saying you carry so much stuff not even the bag of holding can help (it's possible, I've filled up a bag of holding before...)

@Alesia: Stunning work. I'm glad you didn't kill yourself there in the hidey-hole at the end. Are you playing with the SCS option for dragons having improved staying power? Does that make any difference when you unload an entire spell book at one?

@Grond0 -- I will play a dirge for Boon tonight. His time came too soon! Best of luck back at Candlekeep.

Yes I know.  I had in mind a desire to complete at least SoA with the original limitations, but I am going to give up on that and add in some inventory tweaks next time.

Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 15 (update 4 - 1 hr, 20 mins; total 10 hrs 50 mins)
Tyran, gnome berserker (Grond0), & Titas Adukaars, dwarf fighter/cleric (Gate70)

The session started with an assault on the Unseeing Eye.  Titas forsook his favoured dual wielding for a while in order to equip the Shield of Balduran.  The only difficult fight was with the blind priests.  One of the gauth nearby was attracted by the noise and joined in the combat meaning Tyran could not approach without being targeted.  Meanwhile Titas was hemmed in by enemies and found it difficult to reach the gauth.  However, few attacks on him succeeded and he always kept at least half-hits.  The Unseeing Eye himself was neutered by the rod and finished off by one blow from Titas.

Having killed the Shade Lich last time the duo decided to continue with a lich hunt.  First up was the Elemental Lich.  Like his companion he got buffs up and used a time stop.  Titas suffered from a wilting, though his buffs shrugged off the meteor shower and the lich soon met its end at the hands of IMoD.

Kangaxx looked too risky for a fair fight, so both compatriots used scrolls of magic protection before closing in on him.  The original form lasted quite a while, but the demi-lich fell quickly to IMoD.

While the scrolls were active the duo decided to investigate a door in the Bridge District.  A fire giant strength potion and DUHM allowed Tyran to kick it in and the duo were transported to the Twisted Rune.  Titas set about the beholder while Tyran confronted Shangalar.  He wasted a bit of time there before realising his +3 axe was making no impression and swapped places with Titas.  Here's a belated screenshot with all the main enemies already dead.

The scroll had expired before they left the Bridge District so it was back to standard buffs to confront the City Gates lich.  However, they were not actually required.  Titas clicked on the lich (accidentally he said!) pretending he wanted to talk, but instead slew him with a single blow from IMoD.

Combat stats (continued from BG1):
Tyran, berserker 16, 107 HPs, 541 kills.
Titas, F 12 / Cl 12, 101 HPs, 608 kills, 1 death.

Alicia v. Ascension Irenicus

Heading into the Ascension Irenicus fight, I reflected on the mistakes I've made with Alicia and other characters. I noted, once again, that I tend to err on the side of being overly cautious and defensive minded.

Thinking defense first is a good habit as a No Reloader, but a lack of assertiveness can invite disaster by lengthening battles and therefore increasing the odds of a fatal mistake. Defense should come first, but offense should be a very close second (doubly true when facing cagey foes with infinite heals like the SCS Fallen Solars...). Alicia kept that in mind when setting up her Trigger and Chain.

The Plan: Set Contingency: See Enemy- ProMW, Sequencer: Flame Arrow x3, Trigger: Sunfire x3, Chain Contingency: Hit- Sunfire x3. Full buff under Improved Alacrity in the Pocket Plane and then Wish up a freshspellbook before entering the Throne. Feel free to rest and rebuff of course if the Rest option doesn't come.

When the battle starts -and Contingency: See Enemy- ProMW has fired- immediately cast Improved Alacrity then move west near Bodhi, Irenicus, and Fallen Solar I. Pull the Sunfire x3 Trigger with the understanding that that, in turn will set-off Chain Contingency: Hit- Sunfire x3. Follow with up to 3 (but no more) Sunfires cast from book. Try not to incinerate Slayer Imoen.

Quickly finish off any of the westerly foes who survived the inferno, and then summon a PI to take care of Fallen Solar II. With 3LRs remaining, this shouldn't be a problem despite it's Fire Resistance. Do your best to shield Balthazar from the Fallen Solar's Vorpal hits: it would be a shame loose him so soon.

Execution: The battle went according to plan- as you'll see.

The battle began. Irenicus took his buffs and then Chained Projected Image, Simulacrum, Mordy Sword. Simultaneously, Alicia saw her ProMW Contingency fire and successfuly cast Improved Alacrity.

Then it was step left and explode: Spell Trigger Sunfire x 3->Chain Contingency: Hit- Sunfire x3 ->Sunfire->Sunfire->Sunfire.

Kabooom!
Posted Image

The blast heard round The Throne wiped out PI Irenicus, Simmy Irenicus, Bodhi, and Fallen Solar I. A follow up Skull Trap took care of the Mordy before Alicia -not wanting to deplete her real book further- summoned a PI. The PI then hit the still invisible Jon with Ruby Ray->Ruby Ray->Spell Trust->Remove (unsuccessful) before unloading on Jon with Ice Storm x 4 (for quick disruption, he had said "praeses" ) and Dragon's Breath's x2 (for a slightly delayed finish). Imoen, sadly, was a casualty of the Dragon's Breaths.
Posted Image

Just one Solar left now. But the battle is far from over. Between their dispelling vorpal arrows, Mordekain Dysjunctions, infinite Heals, and cagey scripts, the SCS-Ascension Fallen Solars can be difficult to finish and deadly for anyone not bearing the Relfection Shield (including Balthazar).

After a Firestorm from the Solar released Alicia from PI stasis prematurely, she moved north, summoned another PI, and then went to work. She was fortunate Balthazar survived the transition to a new PI.
Posted Image

And even more fortunate that a beyond sight range Wilting finished the Solar just as it had slipped away and started to cast Heal.
Posted Image

Alicia heads in to Demon Battle I with a fully loaded spellbook and a fresh and ready Balthazar.

Best,

A.

As am I...

Yes: I do have Improved Staying Power for dragons installed. And Yes: it does make it trickier to finish dragons. This tends to be more noticeable in SoA though.

As for this run, Alicia's book has a lot of damage in it (7 is her only level lacking a substantive energy attack). Nonetheless, I was actually surprised that Abazigal and Draconis fell as quickly as they did.

@Grond0 -- I will play a dirge for Boon tonight. His time came too soon! Best of luck back at Candlekeep.

Agreed. Sorry to see Boon go Grond0. :(

A.

Alicia, Elven Sorceress: Demon Battle I

Prior to Demon Battle I, I contemplated Imprisoning Balthazar (And yes: you read that right: Imprisoning Balthazar.) The logic here would have been to shield him from Vorpal hits during the demon battles- thus preserving him for the final confrotation. I was seriously tempted, but then I realized that this thought was likely yet another example of me being overly cautious and -counterintuitvely- incurring unneeded risk by extending fights. Ultimately, Alicia chose to handle the Vorpal threat herself and then let Balthazar, a Planetar, and perhaps a PI take care of the rest. This worked out nicely.

Alicia touched the pool running Improved Alacrity and then trained her sights on the Balor. LRx3->Single Target->Skull Trap took him out of the action quickly...
Posted Image

...and once he was gone, Balthazar and the Planetar, were sent in to finish while Alicia observed, ready to assist.
Posted Image

After the Marilith cast ProMW, Balthazar cried "Faster Than The Eye!" and teleported away. No worries: we'll handle this one.

Alicia- Casts Breach: Marilith
Planetar- Attacks Marilith
Marilith- Death
Posted Image

"How you doin' over there Balthy?"

"I SHALL NOT FAIL!"
Posted Image

(Good answer.)

Alicia and Balthazar will head on to Demon Battle II soon.

Mittrek the level 9 Human fighter entering trilogy no reload challenge...

Setup:
SCS 21
Most harder encounters enabled
no other mods

Mittrek made it past Sarevok. But when he found himself in Irenicus Dungeon, Joshua was still dead! Joshua died in the battle with Sarevok and apparently the team was captured before they could resurrect him. Hmm, that's a big problem Joshua is the tank. Therefore, even though most of the run is intended for these 4, We allowed Minsc to join to sub for Joshua.

By being careful and making the most what little we had, we got through all the encounters that we fought well. But one encounter was nearly death incarnate, the mage assassin fighting the vampire. She did this to the party:
Posted Image

Yep that's right - ENTIRE party confused! Yikes! This is totally unfair though as it's impossible for the party to defend itself from confusion via spell or potion since its the beginning of the game. The 1st confusion got the whole party but Paja, then the 2nd got Paja. Paja managed to fire off a dispel magic which still cast though confused, but it did nothing due to the level difference.

While confused, Mittrek slew Paja (ouch there goes our thief and lots of traps left!). Minsc got held AND confused, yeah he won't be any help this battle. Mittrek and Hanna shook off their confusion and used throwing axes and sling against the mage - success! Mage dies...had to drop a lot of loot though.

Due to no thief, I had to pass on the trapped room with the doppleganger...we cleared out the other room for the girdle of bluntness, as Minsc was able to bash the chests open and importantly no traps. Interestingly I started the battle with Hanna coming out of the shadows smacking the mage - this broke his morale! And then was easy pickings after that...will need to try that more often, never really thought of a monk as a mage killer.

For the final battle before escaping, the team took a lot of backstabs. Here's our final status after escaping the dungeon - party battered, and two party members dead.
Posted Image

I don't even know if we have enough gold to resurrect our fallen..I hope so. I got to level 9 so Mittrek will be dualing to mage pronto. Will have a character sheet picture after he does the dual and memorizes the spells he has been hoarding.

Mittrek the level 9 human fighter (inactive) > level 3 mage continues his adventure...

Well resurrected Joshua and Paja but ran into a big problem - namely, even though the temple took my money and Joshua looks alive on the right panel, yet when I right click on his inventory you get the "gray" screen as if he were out of control or dead! Out of desparation I tried removing him from the party and re-adding him, but when I try to talk to him it says "Cannot initiate dialog - appears busy". So unless anyone has any ideas, we've lost Joshua forever...to a bug. We need a tank so Minsc will do his best to stand in Joshua's shoes...

I've tried saving, reloading, resting but no go, just can't get Joshua to join.

Gate/Grond0 -- Tyran & Titas look like a mean pair of shorties. I think the Lich community is having a meeting right now about those two -- if there are any liches left in Amn, that is.

Alesia, best of luck with the throne. The depth of your strategic thinking is truly impressive. Here's to Alicia's success! Thanks for sharing her journey. (I've never actually made it anywhere near the throne myself, and watching you is the closest I'm likely to get, I strongly suspect. At least until I abandon all hope of a successful no-reload run.)

Corey, sorry to hear that Joshua didn't recover from his terrible abuse at Sarevok's hands. I hope Mittrek can recover his composure and carry on!

They were indeed pretty mean with Kangaxx - scrolls of magic protection didn't give him much chance.  However, there will be liches aplenty still awaiting and thirsting for revenge - the one in spellhold ended one of our previous NR runs.

Bruce, shapeshifter (fighter)

Having graduated from BG1, Bruce has started his journey in BG2.  As at the start of BG1 there was lots of resting to heal damage during the dungeon.  Bruce made use of the Horn of Kazgoroth in the elemental plane and again in the portal room.  A potion of speed helped him finish off Ulvaryl and the final assassins.

This is his record at the end of the dungeon, having just dualled to a shapeshifter (with the help of Shadow Keeper).
Posted Image
As a fighter he was virtually always dual-wielding.  However, you can probably guess (from looking at his THAC0) he won't be dual-wielding as a shapeshifter (at least in human form) until / unless he can regain his fighter abilities.

Mittrek Update - Bug Report

@Grond0 - well CTRL + Q did make Joshua join, but it's no use, he's just bugged. Below is a screenshot that shows the problem well. Notice Joshua's icon is "gray" like he's dead. And in fact I can't give him any orders or even look at his inventory. BUT, the Temple won't raise him, the Temple thinks he's alive. I can even mouse over him and it says his health is 0/73. He's toast.
Posted Image

I manage to solve my problem though - I had to move the game to multi-player, import Joshua into a free slot, and make sure to resurrect him with Mittrek away from the priest - this worked! Joshua is OK now. However, it did lose 1600 gold to raise him, since I paid to resurrect him twice. It's a small price to pay to now have him in the party though. His equipment is horrible, so need to get full plate and a good shield for him soon as we can. But the key piont is I'm in business again...now I can actually play instead of fixing bugs...
