Possible method to deal with gold destroying wild surge: if you gather assets you won't be using but are valuable, yet you don't need money that moment, put them in a barrel/chest as your "bank". This way when ready to do a purchase, you gather those items, then immediately sell those and buy the items you are wanting.

Buffs help kill the slavers and last until Haegan (I said “Captain” he said “Wot”).

A rest before trolling and a second rest before the remaining slavers sees Rhane reporting back to Hendak. He grabs a teddy bear from the corpse of Llynis and steps outside. Valen and Brus are both waiting so Rhane heads back to Gaelan Bayle.
Kensai 11. 515 kills, stone golem.

Traveling with: Minsc, Mazzy, Jaheira, Yoshimo, Viconia

Veeton successfully defeated Sarevok and is continuing his BG 2 trilogy no-reload run. He recruited Minsc, Jaheira, and Yoshimo and with their help, he made it out of Irenicus' dungeon alive. After selling the junk we could loot, Veeton changed spell sets, as did Jaheira, and then the party rested at the Seven Vales.
The party then went upstairs to deal with a belligerent party. Veeton actually did most of the work here, casting web/emotion/cloudkill/fireball x2/glitterdust. However, Minsc and Jaheira did help too, they both cast entangle at the party. Mencar ALMOST broke free, but think he failed a save vs. an entangle, and the party shot him up dead. Forgot to mention, Jaheira, also did insect plague too. Once all the spells were over, only Pooky was alive, but not for long. Brennan Risling could not escape the entangles either.
The full plate went to Minsc, seeing he is using Sword of Chaos at the moment. In not too long he will be dual-wielding so needs the extra protection the full plate can bring him. Invis ring went to Yoshimo. Oh forgot to mention, the only major purchase from Irenicus Dungeon cash for Veeton was an air control ring - as a human, Veeton's saves aren't so hot, so the improved invisibility can help him live by making him not be targeted by enemy spell casters. Just as important, he can use this without facing the wrath of the Cowled Wizards, unlike if he put it up via spell.
Veeton and Minsc, Jaheira and Yoshimo also solved the Circus problem. I had a really hard time deciding who I wanted in the party (so many good characters in BG 2). Decided would get Mazzy early, and also wanted Viconia this run. Was going to get rid of Minsc, but he has two-hand sword skill and nice 2-hand swords to be had...all right if keeping him now no more room.
So first we get Viconia. The fanatics were defeated - they put a good beating on Jaheira, but a few extra healing potions kept her afloat.
We headed back to the Promenade to fully equip Viconia and got the Suna Sunei ambush - improved invis on Veeton, Jaheira puts insects on the mage (which landed), yep victory assured, if a tad slow. Viconia didn't have a melee weapon yet but she was being pursued, so she ran and the party helped take her enemies down first. She helped herself a little bit with a hold person which landed. As a human, Minsc's saves won't be great for a while, so when dual-wielding he will usually off-hand the arbane so he can't be held. He especially will be doing that at the Umar Temple so he can't be held by the shadow fiends.
Our "base" will be a container by the merchant at the North exit of the Waukeen's Promenade. At that merchant, we bought 120 +1 bullets - made us pretty poor, but we need magical ammo for the shadows.
When we got to Immesvale, we found investigated their problems there. We didn't bother the cowled wizard there yet, as most of the party can't even hurt the stone golem. The +2 shield from Maduff was very helpful. Jaheira used it temporarily - her only 1 hand weapon is an "excellent" club, so she can't even hurt the shadows, but that's OK, everyone else will, she will just keep their attention with her -4 AC until we can recruit Mazzy -- in which case Jaheira will use a +1 staff in the back, and Mazzy will tank with her short sword (even though I got Mazzy early, she still had ***** in short bow - what a waste). This setup worked well. There were no problems working our way to the Shade Lord.
We left the shadow dragon alone for now. When Veeton, Jaheira and Viconia can cast summons via level 6 spells, we will probably reconsider. Realistically, will be a lot safer once Veeton gets the amulet of power too.
In any case, we do every buff that makes any sense, then charge the Shade Lord's domain. We concentrated fire on the altar, Shade Lord, then shadows - victory complete. Think Mazzy got confused, but it wore off when the game automatically did a rest to bring up the day.
I wanted to do Nalia's Keep, but we need troll killing weapons. So we freed Hendak and got Stonefire for Minsc, with the intent of then doing Nalia's Keep to get FoA for Mazzy. Since I want Veeton to keep a shield equipped for the extra protection, he went ahead and purhased and used the sling of seeking (a good fit with his 19 STR/DEX).We had just enough cash to get Martial Staff for Jaheira, her job will be to take down the Iron Golem at the Keep with that. When we entered the cell area, careful play (making enemy mages top priority) made that initial battle no problem. Poor Beastmaster had no clue what hit him - Veeton crept up invisible, fired web then cloudkill and waited it out - mission success.
Since we are eventually recruiting Imoen, Veeton needs a scroll case to keep her spells, and Viconia was overflowing with potions, so we also stopped by Watcher's Keep for a potion bag. Nalia's Keep will be our next target.

Veeton Update 2
Traveling with: Mazzy, Minsc, Jaheira, Yoshimo, Viconia
Veeton and gang have made a little more progress, clearing 2/3 of the D'Arnise Keep, just need to clear out the basement. Minsc is dual-wielding Stonefire and Frostreaver now. Mazzy using Flail of the Ages and a shield. Jaheira the Martial Staff, which she used to solo the iron golem, Yoshimo Tuigan's short bow, Veeton using sling of seeking and Viconia using Dragon's Bane sling. Viconia got a bit lucky and got 3 skeletons from a single animate dead spell. She sent them one at a time to draw out the spells from the Yuan-Ti Mage 2nd floor. However, Jaheira's nymph managed to hold the mage, so then we just attacked and finished it. Otherwise, Mazzy and Minsc have tanked pretty well, though they need healing occassionally. Yoshimo was proud of himself - with a measly +2 dagger he got a critical and backstabbed Glaicas for 50 damage - of course he didn't stand there like a man and trade blows but ran back to the party who duly finished Glaicas. I like the armor that Mazzy has on (AC 2, 20% fire resistance), so gave the full plate to Jaheira for now.
I forgot to mention my setup in my initial post. To give Veeton a chance to develop, I am not playing SCS this time.
Setup:
Vanilla BG 2
Throne of Bhaal Expansion
Official ToB patch
no mods
Core Rules at all times, including level-ups and spell scribing.

After helping Reynald de’Chatillon kill some thieves Rhane speaks to Aran Linvail, Renal Bloodscalp and Gorch. Mae’Var starts “Ah...I need a necklace from....yes, that one”.
After killing some mephits (Edwin/Rayic) and a rest Rhane switches to Prebek and Sanasha. Another rest before dealing with two stone golems and yet another rest before attacking Rayic Gethras with DUHM > Mirror > Improved Invisibility > haste.
Rayic seems to be stoneskinned and is able to cast PFMW so Rhane switches to an ordinary longsword. Rayic adds symbol:fear and Rhane panics (save vs spell is -1, look up the spell and penalty of -4 is applied). Looks like Rhane is going to experience a gamut of wizardry.
Sunfire does 29 damage (96/125hp), FoD 11 (save of 15, 85/125hp), disintegrate (save of 19), power word: Stun. Rhane is unable to move and worried that Rayic may cast Maze. First though, an invisible stalker, spider spawn and a dimension door. The stun wears off as Rayic casts True Sight, so Rhane runs off in a panic again. Domination (save of 5), Death (immune as not level 8 or below), remove magic (dispels but panic remains), hold person (Arbane is in his offhand), fireball (save of 19, 18 damage, 27/125hp thanks to a hit or two from the stalker).
A lightning bolt. Time seems to pause for Rhane as his life flashes before his eyes (save of 20, 16 damage, 12/125hp) but the bolt is heading for a wall. It is absorbed so Rhane lives for another
Back to Candlekeep at some point.

Nice start Corey. You said Jaheira put insects on the mage, was that the single target version (assume it was otherwise it is best to target a non-caster and have them spread to casters).
Yes, Insects is the single target level 3 druid spell. And yes, for plague of insects I also do the same thing, target the melee preferrably (thieves might go invisible), since caster might not be targetable.
I had forgot to mentioned that we got the sick Harper ambush, which hold person and glitterdust took care of nicely. We also did the Harper Task of taking out Prebek's place. Battle was a mess, mainly because of a mis-click, Yoshimo was supposed to open the door but went inside by himself, unstealthed...,he went outside quickly but that meant we had to do the battle unbuffed, so the party immediately went inside together. Well then 3/5 of the party was confused! However, it didn't matter, as before Jaheira got confused, she managed to get plague of insects off. And Minsc and Veeton were able to win the day, though not before confused party members were taking a lot of potshots at other party members. All survived, and Veeton memorized a lot of important spells, so alls well that ends well I supposed.
EDIT: Sorry to hear the end of your Run, Gate70. My runs have ended to Rayic as well (he's also chunked quite a few party members, notably Aerie/Viconia, before I wised up and put up protection from fire on them if I take the party vs Rayic, though usually I overbuff a single fighter to deal with him on his own.)

So it was time to deal with the enemies in the basement at D'Arnise Keep. A few large trolls, spirit trolls were defeated simply enough. Party has no defence to confusion, nor do we have good blunt defense either, so Viconia went ahead and used the meat in the cell to distract the Umber Hulks while we dealt with their masters.
For Torgal, did maximum melee related buffs and had Yoshimo pull him - I forgot to lay traps, not that Yoshimo's trap score is all that great...in any case, we lay into Torgal, but Torgal forces Minsc to run, Mazzy gets Torgal's attention and then Minsc assists, some heal potions gulped and success! We report to Nalia, and she gives the measly 650 gold - good thing we got some upgrades while we were here...
Next up was Trademeet. When we arrive, we arrive on the West side of the City. As a result, all the guards on the East Side were slaughtered before we could assist. Minsc also slowed us down, slaying the guy who slew the man that says violence is a mistake. Pala's sister's boyfriend also requested Mazzy's assistance, so the party helped her with that. This time Yoshimo DID remember the lay some traps, so the battle with Barl was very quick...
For the genies we did maximum buffs, most important being protection from petrification on everyone that Veeton could - Veeton only has 4 level 1 spell slots so he couldn't protect everyone, he hoped Viconia's magic resistance would save her if a flesh to stone came her way, group haste, then... Yoshimo tries a pick-pocket on the genie outside and failed, turning it hostile, group concentrates fire, and the genie lamp is ours. Our buffs are still active so we go inside and finish off the head genie. We report our results to the guildmistress and she was quite pleased. As were we, we could finally sell this junk we've been hoarding since we arrived at D'Arnise Keep. We rested a bit so that Mazzy would rejoin. We had Mazzy use the Tasheron's short bow, since Jaheira is using a shield and in front now. Mazzy does have ***** in short bow, might as well put it to use I suppose.
Killing trolls should be no problem with Stonefire and FoA, so the party heads to the druid grove. We find out the grove is under influence of a shadow druid. We press in, fighting spiders, trolls, and some shadow druids. We did maximum buffs for the Troll Mound enemies, but they still put quite a beating on the melees - we succeeded without deaths nevertheless, spear going to Jaheira and bracers of archery to Yoshimo.
The first group of druids was dealt with via web/cloudkill/fireball and then ranged power. Next group silence and plague of insects was devastating...We picked up the Belm for Jaheira which was in a haystack. Minsc gets the atttention of spore colonies, protected by the Shield of Harmony, which he borrowed from Jaheira to protect himself from confusion. Party then assisted with ranged attacks, these enemies were defeated without a problem.
Then Cernd took out the shadow druid. Cernd was not in the group. We reported our success to the mayor, and the session ended here.

Veeton and gang had went to Windspear Hills but got framed by Firkraag. So the party battled their way to about the middle of the area, and met a lot of undead. Minsc got charmed, so not too good there we need some help, so Veeton cast emotion on the undead - well, despite his MGoI being up he got charmed as he was casting emotion, and the emotion affected his own party instead of the enemy. Only Viconia was unaffected, rest of the party failed their save, Viconia could do nothing and the party was slain. Back to BG 1.

Trint ver. 2. A long time ago I attempted a solo thief in BG 1 (no kit) named Trint - he didn't die, but had to abort the run due to the "fog resetting" bug, the game wouldn't remember where I had explored, and even respawned assassins again too. Decided to give a namesake another chance. I'm in the mood for quick progress, so solo play would be the way to go I would think. Trint ver. 2 is up to level 5 so far.

Having made it through BG1, this version of Tiamat failed to survive the dungeon.
Tackling Ilyich Tiamat himself kept out of sight, while a screen of summons progressed up the room. Tiamat tried to use a cloudkill on the mage at the end, but just held himself. Unfortunately, the summons disappeared just before finishing a duergar attacker off. Curious about where they had gone, he moved forward and noticed Tiamat and had enough time before the hold wore off to fill him full of holes.

There are old wild mages and bold wild mages but no old bold wild mages.
Generally there are just bodies of dead wild mages, often burnt to a crisp, cast in stone or showing signs of electrocution.

(Fresh from BG1)
Having decided it would be foolish to make a start on the jailbreak overnight, this is exactly what Sharrde does.
Imoen, Jaheira and Minsc are all free. Sharrde has improved her special snares (level 11), allowing her to hold enemies instead of slowing them. Rapid progress is made as a result until a cambion is terminated, and then Sharrde hides in a shadowy alcove and tries to catch some kip.
(plan was to dual to mage at some point but tempted to stick to single class at this rate).

Posté 31 mars 2013 - 09:48
An otyugh is immune to snares, while a first backstab lands a second is fluffed and Sharrde picks up a disease. DUHM outlasts another miss but Sharrde has to backstab a smoke mephit first and then backstab the otyugh.
Yoshimo offers to carry a number of items but only after he departs does Sharrde notice the ring of Koveras has slipped off her finger. That Yoshi needs to be watched.
A genie hands over the Sword of Chaos, while fallback snares help fighting duergar and also against thieves once Ulvaryl is snared.
(Frennedan and the final 3 thieves are all that is left, inventory is full so will be some prioritisation to do).

Condolences Corey. As Grond0 mentioned, Domination does get over the top of the Globes so no surprise there. Getting charmed just as the spell released was serious bad luck though: Again, condolences.
Btw. You may want to double check whether Vampires are vulnerable to Sleep (39) (and hence Emotion) in your install: I know they aren't in my setup.
Anyhoo: Best of luck with your next run!

I had initially built my Bounty Hunter, Alesia, with the intent or dualling her, but after becoming impressed with the Hold traps, I became curious about the higher level special snares and chose to leave her pure. I've never dualled her in subsequent runs.
In any event, best of luck with your Bounty Hunter. I'm hoping to pick up some new tricks!

This version of Tiamat has confounded expectations by completing his introduction to BG2.
In the dungeon he had few problems, normally either meleeing opponents or casting area effect damage from out of their sight range. The cambion saw a rare use of Tiamat's sling to finish him after he had a reminder of why mages tend not to be keen on melee. He did have one hold surge, but there were no hostiles there to take advantage of it this time. Recovering the 2-handed sword Tiamat used in his youth (before turning to the arcane arts) got him to level 10 - 4 more HPs taking him to a healthy 66.
At the mephit portals 3 of the guardian mephits chased a worg and got locked in with it, leaving Tiamat only having to destroy the radiant mephit portal quickly.
The initial preparations for Ulvaryl were wasted when a demon turned up - Tiamat left his summons to their fate. After resting things went better - Ulvaryl died thanks to two hits in quick succession, so Tiamat didn't even need the potion of firebreath to finish her off.
On to the circus where Tiamat picked up level 11 with no problems.
I wanted a ring of invisibility in order to be able to disappear safely during combat so took on the party in the inn. 4 webs, 2 cloudkills, 2 skull traps and 2 chaos spells took care of the casters, but I was disappointed that Brennan didn't join them. One of the casters had managed a haste spell and that let him successfully run away before the magic missiles that would probably have finished him off could catch up.
Next I decided to work on the Cowled Wizards again. The core of the strategy for each group of enforcers was the same as with the party in the inn - move away while the enforcers appeared and then use webs, malison and cloudkills. On most occasions that worked well, although a few of them did escape by using globes to move through the webs and forcing Tiamat to run away. A fiend summoned just before the last of the top men died killed Jayes, but I don't think he had anything in his shop Tiamat will particularly miss anyway.
Tiamat will now report in to Gaelan Bayle.
