Tiamat - wild mage v6 (update 6)
Thanks Corey. Tiamat has continued to make good progress, but has just hit a potentially game-ending problem which I would appreciate guidance on.
Arriving at the Docks to report in to Aran Tiamat tried to get some MMM ready for the journey. That could have been nasty as, unsuspected by him, a couple of thugs with the follow script had locked on to him. If he had been held by
this surge, that might have been fatal (theoretically his invisibility contingency should have saved him, but I'm not convinced it always fires reliably).
At Brynnlaw he buffed up to see off some ambushing vampires and then helped Ginia before
persuading Perth to hand over his access wardstone. His book provided fireball, PFE, farsight, lightning bolt, farsight (again), stinking cloud, lightning bolt (again) before sticking on burning hands - the book got thrown away!
On to the Asylum and Tiamat dreamed he made a
first use of a Dark Planetar against Bhaal before telling Imoen to get lost. The Dark Planetar disappeared just before finishing off a lich and his companions, so
Tiamat had to complete the job. I got a bit blase with the summoned enemies, forgetting that a beholder would target Tiamat; he was hit with an
anti-magic ray to make his spell saving throw 2, but fortunately was not targeted with an instant-death attack before the Planetar finished the beholder off. Got to level 19 here - taking energy blades. Shortly after that a cow plummeted down on him, but
appeared to make no impression on his stoneskin.
No further problems getting out. Tiamat met Bodhi with a planetar in tow, but managed to keep it away while the Slayer made an appearance. Picked up some boots of speed and boots of the north from the machine. The experience for escaping got Tiamat to level 20 (improved alacrity). Before leaving I also thought I would test whether level 10 spells can be cast through Nahal's reckless dweomer - looks like they can, though
it was a costly experiment.
For the final Spellhold battle Tiamat immediately silenced Jon and hit him with MMMs. Jon didn't cast vocalise, but that didn't stop him from quickly replying with a wilting that took a toll of Tiamat's allies. I don't think I've ever used a planetar before this run, but a check of its spells showed insect plague, which caused at least one of Jon's spells to fail. Meanwhile Tiamat was unleashing energy blades which soon had Jon at near death. An efreeti summoned by an ally decided to use a fireball on Jon, which annoyed the planetar and he attacked Tiamat, but Jon fortunately collapsed at that moment. Tiamat then ran round keeping out of the way of the planetar, while using wands to damage the murderers until the planetar disappeared and he was able to finish off the last few at his leisure.

Tiamat accepted Saemon's offer of a ship and soon found himself in the city of Caverns. Moving rather incautiously he
triggered his contingency for the first time in a long while (on an acid trap). Just in case of accidents while doing the imps' game Tiamat
ran spell immunity against maze there. Took a
cloak from a princess on the way to see the rebel prince. Then killed the prince and reported back to the king. That got Tiamat to level 21 and, so long as he keeps his protection rings on, he no longer has any chance of being petrified by a surge. He took an extra L6 spell as his HLA.
The problem is that the king gave Tiamat gauntlets of crushing and rod of lordly might, but no rope (although he conducted him to the exit and his dialogue suggested that Tiamat should be able to depart). The only thing I can think that might have affected this is that Tiamat initially told the Prince he would side with him, but then killed him anyway. I can't really see why this should have changed things though and, as the king intended Tiamat to depart, I'm minded to treat this as a bug and console the rope in. Any views on whether this is reasonable?
Tiamat, wild mage L21, 84 HPs (7 from ioun stone), 845 kills
Edit: king's dialogue was as follows:-
