Coral, LG female elf stalker
Suna Seni paces restlessly, wondering when Coral will turn up. She turns to her mage for answers, only to see chunks of wizardry explode and a AoF > Bless > DUHM Coral swing her quarterstaff into her face. The cleric and two melee attackers are next with two archers to finish.

Valygar wants to swap armour but Coral is unable to work out his fancy suit (looks like a human Coral could use it but not an elf or half elf; so much for my master-plan). They part company without thinking (or more importantly, without opening the planar sphere).

Corey, the Planar prison can be a real pain for a low level party. Solo you can just scoot around, with a party it's too easy to step into a cell or not be able to get into a fighting formation. I tend to grab the potion case early and have charname carry it just in case someone else is chunked.

Well we went into the cells ON PURPOSE, so that wasn't a problem per se. I grant you it normally is though. You don't need to worry about the potion bag. In vanilla at least, when a character gets chunked their quest items (such as FoA) and containers automatically go to CHAR name, so you should never lose the potion bag, even if character with the bag is chunked. We were able to get into a fighting formation, we just failed our save vs. chaos, and our dispel magics were not as effective as we had hoped.

That armour doesn’t fit either; back it goes to Keldorn. Coral decides to do something crazy (for level 9) and heads upstairs instead of fighting the welcoming party. A glabrezu follows as Coral springs a trap and is attacked. She hides behind a door and waits for the enemy party to kill the glabrezu.

She hits her target with an arrow of biting, then after hiding and running she hits with a second and retreats to hide as he is poisoned and various buffs including true sight are activated. After these expire she continues until her five arrows of biting are spent then sneaks in for a backstab as her target is finally alone. He soaks up the pain but as she runs to hide more enemies arrive from different directions. There is no escape!

Or is there? RoAC improved invisibility succeeds while her physical health foils PW:Stun.

It is safer to continue with arrows +1. After several aim / shoot / hide / hits she has killed her target.Posted Image

As she grabs his gear Sion casts a second true sight  and Coral takes magic missiles and a hit as she hides behind a doorway (the one pictured so about 3 seconds exposure). Arbane haste is used to escape the congregation downstairs and only a nishruu/efreeti combination chase her into the streets.

Inspection with the glasses identifies the katana as Celestial Fury, and Coral is wondering why she chose to hone her skills with a long sword instead of katana’s (something else to look forward to at level 12).

Coral, LG female elf stalker; dual-wielding a non proficient Celestial Fury and Arbane.

A mad cleric and ruffian captain are cut down, then Renfeld is picked up on the way to the Talos temple. Coral checks their supplies before returning to take an amulet. Renfeld is told to shut up as Coral kills a rakshasa and sneaks into the area where Keldorn was approaching.

Coral is webbed, allowing four ettercaps the opportunity to spot her. She breaks free and uses the narrow corridors to backstab them before returning to clear out the shadows. After speaking to Gaal two vampiric mists attack, and are somehow killed while only draining Coral to level 8. The journey to Sassar is arduous too, seeing her drained to level 6 before being restored at a temple.

Roger the fence sells a couple of potions once a sea troll is dealt with and Coral prepares herself for what lies ahead. A storm giant potion is used to open a secret door at the city gates then Coral uses a protection from undead scroll before grabbing the Daystar long sword. As she forgot to use the scroll before entering the hidden crypt she has to kill a buffed lich (silly).

An oil of speed is used to race to destroy the shade lich (level 10), then a potion of invulnerability and RoAC help save vs spells (rolled 18, was 0) before the elemental lich is also destroyed. Coral is drained again (level 8) before facing Kangaxx the lich then Kangaxx the demi-lich. His three minotaurs are killed and Coral is halfway to a temple when her oil of speed wears off. They want 1000gp for a greater restoration so Coral heads to the Temple district for a 250gp discount. The ring of Gaxx is certainly worth that price.

Trying, but already had more close encounters than the 1 in BG1 (save against hamadryad charm). Here's another 1.

Coral, LG female elf stalker
Rylock is finally dumped, then 3 sets of Gaxx Improved Haste are used against Prebek and Sanasha - the lack of weapon proficiency showing itself. Coral carefully deals with a room full of mephits for Edwin after returning the gaudy Talos necklace, then is equally careful dealing with two stone golems (which can be boom-stunned by the way).

Rayic Gethras dodges an arrow of biting and casts PFMW so Coral retreats downstairs for a minute or so. She carries out a series of backstabs over two floors as a deadly game plays out. Coral manages to hide repeatedly just as Rayic arrives, after about a dozen backstabs she is caught out when Rayic arrives first and has tried to hide so her aura is dirty. She goes back upstairs but Rayic is there too and hits with a Melf Acid Arrow, so back downstairs where he casts magic missile and a SECOND RAYIC arrives. Upstairs again, and one Rayic follows to cast Magic Missile as Coral runs downstairs again.

The second Rayic, or is it the first, casts PW:Stun and between the MAA and MM Coral only has 87hp - stunned. Rayic adds a couple of magic missiles then switches to melee where the ring of Gaxx keeps Coral at about 58-60hp for a couple of rounds. Once she recovers it is melee time, with another half dozen or so hits before his stoneskins fail. The second Rayic gets an Improved Haste version of the same once Coral is beyond 90hp.

(could have managed that OK before he duplicated, must remember not to do that with him)

Thanks. So far there seem to be no problems.

Of course if some files were overwritten, I probably wouldn't know.

I think that some encounters from UB aren't there. The one concerning Galoomp the book-keeper for instance.:( So far problems are minor. There is another one concerning a girl who has been kidnapped near the Copper Coronet, but that might have been in Romantic Encounters which I haven't installed this time. Let's hope that all the problems are of such a minor nature.

EDIT: Looks like I missed installing the Galoomp quest.:( Never mind, it was trivial.

 Russell II the level 11 Inquisitor and his band of paladins
Areas battled: Kangaxx, Beholder Cult, Tanner Reijek's place, Warehouse party, Captain Dennis and gang

Russell II continues to make progress. Behold Cult was dealt with easily enough as far as enemies go, however we did run into a big problem - namely that cache on the wall with the trap, we couldn't seem to loot it and enemies kept spawning. Unfortunately Keldorn ran in fear and dropped his special armor and his protection from poison amulet and when we rested, (as we were pretty beat up), the equipment vanished. I finally noticed Keldorn was naked and so we left the area to buy some full plate for him and returned.

Kangaxx defeated the usual way for me (pro magic scroll, staff of Rhynn).

We exposed Reijek the tanner as the murderer, but he escaped. Some twisted rune assassins tried to take us out but failed badly to our 3x true sight.

We walked into a warehouse and got attacked. We won pretty cleanly, includig taking out a summoned Nabassu.

Captain Dennis gang was tricky, Hanna died and Keldorn nearly did, but RoR solved both problems. The team did prevail once more.

We have just reported the news about Maevar to Bloodscalp, so we will have to eliminate Maevar next session.

Coral, LG female elf stalker
Last night; Mae’Var and his goons are dead (level 11 either here or with Rayic) and Gaelan Bayle has collected his fee. Aran Linvail hands over a couple of items and Coral is relieved to discover the Amulet of Power is stalker-friendly.  Lassal may have killed Mook but he takes a full dose of Daystar sunray plus one hit as he runs away. The next job for Aran is in the Bridge district, seeing a group of orogs counter-ambushed on the way.

Two rune assassins get their come-uppance but Coral has glugged half a dozen extra healers to keep pace with them (level 12, * in katana). A bone golem proves hard to kill, even when boomed twice (Celestial Fury has a 25% chance of Booming Thunder which stuns for about a round). Del takes one hit from Daystar before Coral uses a sunray.
Posted Image

Aran Linvail asks for help dealing with Bodhi, which Coral uses to negotiate a higher price (consoled in a BAG04 bag of holding). Coral can afford to purchase the Aeger Hide armour but not an intriguing offhand weapon.

This evening; The djinn are removed from Trademeet, meaning Coral can pick up a new girdle and spare belt. She sends Cernd ahead to the druid grove as Umar Hills is beckoning. After obtaining the Ilbratha short sword and shield of harmony she is off to an abandoned temple. To say the undead are restless is an understatement, but at least they haven’t evolved into liches yet.

Coral has made her way safely through and at level 13 is tempted to sneak past the shadow dragon, but it can’t be done. Fire Giant strength > oil of speed > DUHM > Mirror > II > IH sees her injure Thaxxy before being buffeted away and waiting for a PfMW to expire. A second IH attack gets Thaxxy to wounded then Regeneration > DUHM > IH almost finishes the job but Coral is buffeted away and has to heal again. Coral uses Arbane haste just as she is blinded, so it is wasted and Thaxxy has also healed so the battle can start anew.

The efreeti makes a brief appearance, then Coral uses a series of attacks and minor healing potions before using a cloaked troll form to regenerate more rapidly, and then a cloaked rat form (which I expect to be highly resistant but suspect the attack won’t injure the dragon. I am wrong - in the nicest possible way as the rat stands it’s ground for a long time and returns after two buffets. With hardly any injury and Gaxx regeneration the rat gnaws away and discovers Thaxxy has an Achilles heel). “It’s a rat trap - and you’ve been caught”Posted Image

After a rest and re-buffs it is time to face the Shade Lord. The Altar and Patrick get a Daystar/offhand Fury combo then a sunray is used as the Shade Lord closes in. After one hit a second IH is used to finish him off too and Coral reaches level 14.Posted Image

Hi all.

I just wanted to quickly note that Alisa is alive and well. I've just become a bit busy in RL recently.

I'll try to post a progress report tonight or tomorrow.

Best,

The ranger quest starts off well, with a mithril amulet retrieved, then Delon arrives with “I have an offer for you” before clearing off without talking. The ranger quest is over as nobody in Umar wants to talk to Coral.

(I reloaded a couple of times to see if it is a 1-off but it looks like a persistent issue for whatever reason. Oh well)

Russell II Band of Paladins - FINAL BG 2 Update

Russell II decided his team was strong enough to take on Watcher's Keep 1st level. We did pretty good fighting-wise. However, in an effort to bash traps, I put 24 STR potion on Russell II so he can get 25 with DUHM. In hindsight, it was probably better to put on someone else. Reason? Well, Russell II bashed a trap, that Corey_Russell knew as trapped - however, since Corey_Russell always de-traps it normally, no idea what it was so no way to defend against it directly. If it were a damage trap, Russell II would have been quite safe - but apparently was instant-death instead. While Russell II did have good saves by this point (he had the BoIB and also gaxx ring and +1 ring), his luck ran out, got a bad roll and thus his death.

Hard luck Corey.  That trap is certainly one to watch for - FoD I think, so you need a save of -1 vs spells to be safe.  I find I can normally get that using the ring of trap triggeringair control.

Good idea. We had 39,000 gold so we easily could have gotten a RoAC. But I still think the better idea would have been to put the storm giant potion on a different paladin and just resurrect them if they don't survive the trap, our RoR was fully charged.

Yes, that is FoD. Something Alesia said a couple of years ago about not relying on chances (saving throws which could be failed) as the sheer volume of them in SoA will eventually result in a failure. Are we  going to see Russell III now or will he be along after a bit of variety?

Coral, LG female elf stalker

(1 more reload test; Delon appears to behave himself if Coral rests outside the de’Arnise hold, my intention is to allow these reloads as it is a game bug but to specifically mention it here. Does anybody object?)

A few orogs are easy prey and Madulf is more readily accepted by the Umar locals as a result of his work. After a few more days resting outside the de’Arnise hold Delon turns up again. Something about the witch of Umar returning and Coral finds the once abandoned temple has been re-poulated with a host of undead. This is no issue for Coral but then she stumbles unbuffed into a glabrezu and manages a couple of save vs death before activating II (to take her saves to -5).

Coral isn’t faring well but a Fury boom gives her the time she needs to melee it back to another plane. Zombies can be boomed, as can an imp which is intent on casting spells. The Umar witch fries herself with a lightning bolt as Coral buffs, leaving only a misled image to be boomed into submission.

This concludes the ranger duties for Umar and she is given a moondog figurine by a dryad at the temple surface. (Cerberus looks like an ideal no-reload summon with hasted movement and some genuinely useful buffs).

Cerebus and Coral defeat Tarnor the Hatchetman and his gang without injury, then Coral heads to the docks where Cromwell forges some shadow dragon scale armour for 5000gp.

Durst, Gellal and Tanova are all boom-stunned then a clay golem almost kills Coral (glugged an extra healer with 17hp left and was back to 17hp a second later). All the vampires downstairs are boom-stunned as is Lassal. Bodhi demonstrates her immunity to such trickery, not that it matters.Posted Image

The crypt king, a few skeleton warriors and mummies are supplemented by two shadow fiends; all removed from the graveyard before Coral collects the pantaloon ransom and decides she ought to put an end to the Copper Coronet slavery. The extreme lateness of doing this sees Coral complete the task without taking any injury, and Hendak quickly asks her to stop slavery elsewhere in the city.

A full inventory sees something dropped (Lilacor) and the dessicated hand remains instead; no issue as Coral has a helm of charm protection, shield of harmony and Aeger’s hide (confusion)  to protect her from many mind effects. Captain Haegan and his many helpers are all cut down with liberal boom-stuns before Coral returns to update Hendak.

A few items are purchased for emergency use (Vhailor’s helm, Balduran’s shield) and Coral tries Dakkon’s zerth blade - improving her armour class but not granting additional spells so likely to be bagged again.

Carpe Diem II - Half-elf archer (update 1)

This clone of Carpe made it through BG1 and has just completed his escape from Irenicus' dungeon.

On arrival there he disdained the use of melee weapons and stealthed through the start of the dungeon to pick up a shortbow before retracing his steps and working through various enemies (including 4 lightning mephits that had spawned).  With everything else around there dead I wasn't too worried about the radiant mephit, but Carpe was rendered unconscious for longer than I expected by the colour spray and took lots of damage before getting a bit back with vampiric touch.

After that, stealth enabled him to kill most things easily.  The clay golems were an unnecessary problem as I forgot to kill them in their room and the second one got Carpe low on HPs before falling - I'm not really intending to make this a strict no-healing potion run, but took that attitude against the golems.

Ulvaryl was killed by a combination of a few +1 arrows, a long sword blow and potion of firebreath.  The potion of speed taken helped the firebreath last just long enough to finish off the mage as well.

Escaping the dungeon got Carpe to level 9 - finishing his HP rolls a healthy 7 HPs above average.

With the zerth blade disappointment Coral heads off to the druid grove. The first troll is quickly overwhelmed then Coral realises she’s sold all her longbows and has no fire or acid melee capability, finally resorting to a non-proficient Tuigan bow and single wielding to minimise inventory jumps.

After grabbing Belm she boom-stuns two spore colonies to prevent them summoning any myconids. A less than thorough job is completed, leaving the troll mound, druids vs trolls and Kyland Lind (no real need for any of these?)

The final tasks in Trademeet (mantle, Rejiek) are completed before Coral moves on.

The various containers are starting to hold a lot of items for later so Coral retains the essentials and dumps the rest in Watchers Keep.

Protection from Magic > Protection from Undead > Frost Giant strength > DUHM is enough to clear out the Twisted Rune, although Shangalar is determined to table-dance (undead scroll was silly, lucky I had sunstone bullets and Arla’s sling to kill him or Coral would have been stuck).

What’s left (Unseeing Eye, Windspear, 2xPlanar). Coral kills Mekrath and retrieves the planar gem for Haer’dalis. Anarg is killed on the way to Raelis then Coral engages in a bit of a jail-break. After working round to the Warden Coral is merrily chopping away and has most of the enemies dead.

A few summons are no danger but a yuan-ti mage lands a hold person (oops, forgot I’d switched Arbane for Belm) and there is no reprieve. Coral’s dying thoughts are that she should have looked for a ring of freedom for her spare finger.

I see Athkatla is now a ranger-free zone as Carpe also snuffed it this morning. He had already had one warning when surprised by a hobgoblin shaman in the Copper Coronet sewers and held - but out of sight and the shaman did not come to investigate. After killing most of the slavers he was just tidying up by finishing off the myconids. I had intended to use Lilarcor to protect against confusion, but my reactions proved to be slower than those of the myconid!

The Story of BlackStrider & The Motley Crue (Update #15 - The Unseeing Eye and some more):

Back in the City The Avatars cleared  the Graveyard Crypts, stopped Skinner's business, solved buried alive enigma, avenged Wellyn the Halfling, introduced the Mournful Paladin and the Little Girl and rescued Haer'Dalis from Mekrath:

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

Posted Image Posted Image

Not much issues here but when we started the Unseeing the jigg began... Those Yuan-ti Mages are nuisance to say the least... And with support of some Efreeti they are even more deadly - their Fireballs, Flame Strikes and Flame Arrows (after Yuan-ti Mage's Remove Magic) lead to the close call for BlackStrider and our first dead party member (Krimlor):

Posted Image Posted Image

For that particular fight we almost emptied our healing potions stock. Right after solving the bridge riddle Cassia hit lvl 13 and I tried her new form of Greater Werewolf vs Gauth. But while she could stand her ground vs Beholder quite steady those little beasties shredded her  life force in a blink of an eye (she was unbuffed vs electricity - my fault here... :blush:) so Alesia in Mustard Jellie form fried them with Necklace of Missiles.

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

Posted Image Posted Image

With the Unseeing Eye and his followers dead we had enough funds to pay Gaelan Bayle so we visited the Shadowmaster and took the quest of dealing with Maevar guild. While in the Docks we killed mad cleric and made Xzar's quest (once again tried Alesia's Detect Illusions vs Prebek's Mirror Images here and it works splendidly! But at the moment Alesia has Gauntlets of Dexterity equipped - may be that helps a bit, who knows...)

Posted Image

Our current tasks are Sir Sarles request for pure Illithium and Maevar's Guild.

Current state:

BlackStrider: Blade(14), 121 kills (Shade Lord);
Alesia The Curious: Mage(11)/Thief(12), 17 kills (Gauth);
Grond The Pathfinder: Archer(11), 113 kills (Mencar Pebblecrusher);
Cassia The Furious: Shapeshifter(13), 149 kills (Gauth); (1 death);
Krimlor: Fighter(9)/Cleric(10), 112 kills (Bone Golem); (1 death);
Pot The Selfless: Mage(12), 30 kills (Sorcerous Amon).
