@Corey: did you have a Death Spell or Death Fog by that moment? It would be a lot easier to eliminate that Djinni with them - and Death Fog would even hit the Lich himself - just protect Jaheira vs Acid and thats it.

That's a good idea. I do believe Nalia knows death spell (though of course wasn't memorized...)...I'll use it next time would make things much simpler.

@Alesia: Sorry to hear about your health problems - I fervently hope you get well soon!
@USSNorway - good to see you back in action! Good luck to your crew...

@Grond0: Sorry to hear of your guys run - by that point in the game, it's possible to get 100% fire resistance by equipment alone, why wasn't that done on the main character in such a fire intensive place as Yaga's Temple? It's an idea, anyways, since the equipment resistance doesn't get dispelled.

We don't typically use a lot of buffs / changes of equipment, though fire resistance was added for one battle earlier in the temple.  By that stage Imix was the only thing alive and could have been handled easily enough without fire resistance.  After inquisitor dispel failed I attacked in melee mainly to see whether Carsomyr would affect him, but just stayed next to him a touch too long.

& it is easier to make mistakes in multiplayer. Mistakes this run included leaving a ton of items in the promenade container and locking ourselves out of Watchers Keep. Think that included the helm/shield from Firkraags dungeon, and we didn't forge his scales into armour.

Murl had 2 rings of fire protection for 80%, I assumed Rue had equipped what items she had (helm of defence and something like Gorgon plate armour) so would get to about 55% with her Bhaal tear resistance. Having just seen her maze herself maybe I should have asked the question.

@Alesia, hope you feel better soon - the ice cream therapy has to be worth a try!

So, the Avatars are back on their road.

Upon arrival back to Athkatla we met  Kruin with his buddies who need the Silver Sword to re-enter Limbo. He was pretty mean (and I'm greedy to hand the blade over) so the fight ensured. First we tried to deal with them ourselfs but soon, with all those wild spells flying around (Kruin is a Wild Mage) just gated a Planetar and let him to do all the dirty work by himself (he doesn't became Fallen so it seems that the work wasn't that dirty...).
Now its time to arrange our equipment - Cromwell has much to do and we are pretty short of money. The Avatars run is quite unthrifty (we need a lot of potions) so we even were forced to sell a lot of equipment which I usually keep for trophey collection to buy a really needed stuff. Well, so be it, at least we have less dust-collectors...

We enlisted Shadow Thieves and Paladins to help us to fight Bodhi but that wasn't needed at all - Krimlor and Corey (protected from undead via scrolls) just wiped out the whole coven. Literally! Pot was level drained by Vampiric Mist (out of Planetar then) but that doesn't change anything. Corey is indeed wonderful to fight undeads - he even chunked Bodhi in the end!

Now, with Bodhi gone, at least Imoen is back to normal and her soul restored. It's time to make some cleaning before going into Suldanesselar.

Do you mean what we bought? For now - Scarlet Ninja-To, Kachiko's Wakizashi, and forged Gesen Bow, Wave Halberd, Silver Sword, Equalizer. Need about 2000 gp for Defender of Eastheaven.

Go Avatars!  And go Puk and crew! Edit: and go Corgrunt! Rough up those ruffians.

And Alesia, please accept my best wishes for a quick recovery.  I'm glad to have you around. Not the least because of your ability to eloquently discuss the costs and benefits of different cognitive styles in an evolutionary context.... As far as I'm concerned, you can go off topic any time you like. In the meantime, best of luck with Ashanti. May her potion bag always contain what she needs, when she needs it!

And last but not least, rest in peace Rue and Murl. Solid run.

Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 24 - (update 1)
Wallop, dwarf berserker (Grond0) & Dwarberg, dwarf berserker (Gate70)

A single session saw this duo rage through BG1.  Progress won't be that swift in BG2, but they've still made a solid start.

The dungeon was negotiated with no problems, though non-proficient weapon attacks gave Ulvaryl the chance to make her kills and get away.  There was just a tiny problem at the circus when Wallop gave Aerie the impression that he was uninterested in her fate - she attacked the pair of heavily-armed berserkers, which is rarely a wise career move.  However, Quayle failed to put 2 and 2 together when his protégé failed to appear and wished the duo all the best for their future travels.

At the Copper Coronet Irenicus cast a PW: crash that resulted in Dwarberg losing XP since the last save - that was countered by a contingency: console.  However, Dwarberg also lost his share of kills in that area, which could not be remedied.

With a backpack bulging with potions Dwarberg asked to go to Watcher's Keep to pick up a potion case.  The trip included polishing off the Suna Seni ambush, but the duo didn't venture inside at that time - their best spell saving throw obtainable was 0 and Wallop didn't want Dwarberg to risk his no-death record against the FoD trap.  Wallop (unusually for my characters) also bought Firetooth at WK and that was put to use against the trolls living with the slavers.  The mages there did put up a bit of a fight, Dwarberg having to move smartly to get out of the way of a bouncing lightning bolt.

With the payment from Hendak for services rendered the duo were able to pay Gaelan Bayle and go to collect their goodies from Aran Linvail - the +2 ring meant it was now safe to go and loot the top floor of WK.  Then they were off to the de'Arnise Hold, picking up Renfeld on the way.  Glaicas hit hard - taking Dwarberg down to 32 HP and Wallop had to briefly retreat from the iron golem to ensure his safety.  However, the nastiest moment came against Torgal.  I had expected two raging berserkers to cut him down quickly, but Dwarberg's lack of a proficient magical weapon was a significant hindrance and Torgal hit Wallop several times; he had not used a potion of speed, so Torgal was also faster than him even before Wallop was slowed and I reluctantly decided here he needed to use a potion of healing (none used in BG1 or BG2 up to this point) to keep him going until Torgal was floored.  The final action of the session was Wallop accepting Nalia's wish for him to take the Hold as his stronghold.

Stats:
Wallop, berserker L10, HPs 98 (incl. 5 from helm), kills 353
Dwarberg, berserker L10, HPs 101, kills 288
(as noted above Dwarberg lost a few kills in that session as a result of a crash).

Safe travels for your berserkers, Grond0 & Gate!

With Bodhi's fate sealed the Avatars continued with cleaning-up operations: fought with themselves in Athkatla back alley, saved Viconia, got Jansen Adventure Wear and Spectroscopes for BlackStrider, cleared the Forest of Tethir (saved Coran there) and North Forest. Then was a time for Dragon hunting. Thaxll'ssillyia (even in his improved state with 480hp) fell rather quick to Planetar and Grond's Whirlwind attack. Firkraag last a lot longer. We took our usual buffs, Alesia set a Spike Trap at the bottom of stairs and Pot led a Planetar, simmy BlackStrider and Skeleton Warrior to the Dragon. When the fight began he tried to cast Khelben's Warding Whip on Firkraag but was interrupted and chased by fierce Dragon to the stairs. Alesia's trap fired and brought Firkraag down to injured (about 150 hp out of his 552 total). Pot hit with Spell Thrust (to bring down MSD) followed by Breach and Grond joined with Gesen's Whirlwind (though his damage output was rather low with slow Gesen and he critical missed several times). Firkraag dispelled Grond's Fire Resistance buff but he has 65 via Aeger's Hide + Ring of Fire Control (should have equip him with Dragon helm as well but that doesn't meant much in the end). At the moment Skeleton Warrior and simmy BlackStrider fell dead so Krimlor called Berserker Warrior while real BlackStrider Tensered and charged (first with Kachiko but Firkraag saved vs Wisdom drain several times so BlackStrider switched to more reliable Flail of Ages). Firkraag was at Near Death when he fired Stoneskins and wing buffeted BlackStrider, Planetar and Corey far away. Alesia fired Breach and while BlackStrider tried to run back with all haste (Haste, Boots of Speed) Krimlor claimed a killing critical.

Update 2.3; Trust Noone!

Tradmeet has its own problems, animal attacks and a lack of trade spring to mind but there aren’t any zealots locking up mages or vampires giving people hickies so I collected Trishia and we set about doing good things.

Progress was slow against the trolls with no ‘fireball’ or ‘cloudkill’ to speed things along (I spent all my money on a rod of resurrection) but Trishia does have good {longterm} spells and we made it to the hut with only three deaths. I don’t have Jan this time so Edward set traps at her feet (Raksasha are vulnerable to physical damage) and the old pussie went down without a fuss.

Chick fight:

Cassia and Daemonique talked it over and decided that Cassia had the best skills against Faldorn (mostly because she is at least one level above us) in the Druid challenge pit.
R1, Faldorn goes invisible but Cassia gets a ‘Doom’ in before she fades.
[Daemonique]; I’d have gone with an ‘Chromatic Orb’ for the stun.
[Cassia]; Not helping!
R2, Faldorn puts up a skin and Cassia sums two dogs.
R3, Faldorn hides from the dogs and Cassia puts ‘Insect Plague’ on her own dogs… it jumps to Faldorn {still Doomed} who fails her save and panics.
R4-5 & 6, Cassia sums a nymph, dispels the invisibility with ‘Invisibility Purge’ & skins whilst the nymph slaps a ‘Hold’ on the cheating * Faldorn… battle over and back to the bright lights of Trademeet.

Bugs/ issues;

* SCS Faldorn can still change shape into a Spider despite being under an ‘Insect Plague’… a minor scripting error.

loot;

After selling the junk I had 26k so I recharged the rod of res and went shopping;
Cassia gets the bulk with the “Cloak of Displacement”, “Periapt of Proof Against Poison” and both scimitars (“Rashad's Talon & Belm”). :wub:
Daemonique hands her helmet and belt over to Cassia for tanking… she gets the ‘Staff of Thunder & Lightning’ to cast with and the “Club +2, Gnasher” for melee.
Puk gets the harmony shield.
“Tansheron's Bow +3” for Edward and the extra rep means he gets to keep Trish as his BFF.
Valando keeps the bottle he picked ** from the Dao Djinni guard.

Ps.
** I always do this just before handing the head over because I can complete the quest even if I fail the pick roll.
1.    Have one person enter the tent with the head and stand next to Khan.
2.    Have the game set to pause on enemy seen… you won’t be quick enough without it.
3.    I have someone like Edward set ½ dozen traps at the guards feet… you need something that can guarantee a fast kill.
If you fail the pick skill then the guard will go hostile which should pause the game and you just give the head to Khan… yes I know it tastes like cheddar.

I am going to try & play this PC one more time. I love the possibilities a complete BGI/BGII play through could yield so I’m gonna give him another crack. The PCs name is Eric the Huntsman, & as before, he is based on the male protagonist in Snow White & the Huntsman. In the movie his wife was slain by the evil sorcerous, Queen Revenna & as a result he is known to drink heavily. I’ll play my PC as if he used to drink heavily as a result of his internal struggle about his true heritage but has decided to give up drink & make the most of every day he is given.

As before, I’ll play Eric as if he was raised in Candlekeep & had indeed served as its Huntsman these last couple of years or so, venturing beyond the walls to do so. In so doing, he’s learned the skills of a Ranger/Tracker & has Specialized w/his axe, is proficient w/a dagger & is a Master of Two-Weapon Style fighting already. After a long day of bringing back game & tending to his day-to-day other chores, he rests in the bunkhouse by night.

Who knows, this PC may bite the dust before he leaves Candlekeep, before he reaches the FAI, or certainly when he reaches the FAI as we all know what awaits him there. He’ll start in the NRC again & see how far he can go.

Some rules for my play through this time:
1)     I made sure my Ranger has the P&P minimum stats required for a Ranger (Players Handbook ©
1978, page 24
2)     The games dialogue, Gorion’s Scroll, Assassin letters etc. will direct play. E.g., I know to head to the FAI b/c Gorion’s Scroll, & later, Elminster guides me there. On the other hand, I don’t know to go tromping off into the Cloakwood to look for Coran.
3)     If I don’t know it’s there, I don’t know it’s there, period. E.g., until someone mentions Thalantyr/High Hedge or Kelddath Ormlyr/Temple of the Morning, my PC doesn’t know to run there to p/u supplies etc. but once I come into a town like Beregost or Nashkel I will assume I would easily find the Temple or Store.
4)     If I pass someone one or more times & it seems natural we would greet one another, e.g. Montaron & Xzar, Garrick (since I normally stay in the Red Sheaf or Burning Wizard), Kivan etc., then I will initiate conversation. I will not necessarily go up & talk to everyone on the street or @ the pub & will certainly not just walk into people’s homes so I will miss out on some quests, e.g. Purdue’s Sword, Unsley’s Girdle, Joseph’s Greenstone Ring & Mirianne’s Letter (since it’s unlikely I’d pick the lock to someone’s home & go barging in), Joia’s Flamedance Ring while others might seem more plausible, e.g. Landrin’s Spiders, Captain Brage, Samuel & Gellana, Bassilus.
5)     Will most likely end up w/the usual suspects again although sometimes Garrick tags along until we save Dy.
6)     Immy will be Eric’s ‘Snow White’ so he’ll be a little harsh @ times but softer @ heart.

Key Event:Gorion has just sent word that we need to leave Candlekeep as soon as possible. I am to gather what I need for an unplanned & unexpected journey.

I left Candlekeep w/Gorion & we were ambushed in the darkness of Lion’s Way only hours after we left. Gorion was cut down by some dark, armored fiendish figure, 2 Ogre’s & what appeared to be female Cleric type. Gorion ordered me to run & I instinctively obeyed to my dismay. From where I stood, I saw Gorion killed.

I waited till morning & tried to get my bearings when Imoen approached me. She’d followed us @ a distance & joined w/me, despite my reservations. We collected Gorion’s belongings before battling a pack of Gibberling’s which we defeated well together. We passed up a chance to join w/2 adventurers who wanted to go to Nashkel but Imoen was uneasy about having them join us & I deferred to her sixth sense. In hindsight, that may have been a mistake.

Later, in the Coast Way, we met a strange gentleman who appeared to be a Mage but he was friendly enough & directed us to the Friendly Arm Inn (FAI), where Gorion had admonished me to go to meet up w/2 people named Khalid & Jaheira if anything should separate us. We left the elderly gentleman & were once again attacked by a pack of Gibberling’s but, once again, Immy & I did well together. We continued N & finally made it to the FAI.

Key Event: Immy & I couldn’t get past a wizard, Tarnesh, on the steps of the FAI & we both took a beating. He cast a Sleep spell & we were easy pickin’s for his staff & a Magic Missile spell.

Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 24 - (update 2)
Wallop, dwarf berserker (Grond0) & Dwarberg, dwarf berserker (Gate70)

Another decent session with no deaths, though Dwarberg did have one close shave.

The main starting objective was the ring of Gaxx.  While opening up access to the various liches in the city the duo also helped Roger with a problem and relieved a rakshasa of his cloak.  An undead scroll and potion of speed each were used at the lich in the temple sewers.  After that the City Gates was the next destination (to get a weapon Dwarberg could use on Kangaxx).  That took longer than it should have done as stone giant strength + DUHM proved unable to open Daystar's chest and Wallop had to wait until that DUHM expired to recast another on top of frost giant strength.  Even so the potions of speed only expired as the duo entered Kangaxx's lair (after dealing with the lich in the Bridge District), so there was still plenty of time on the undead protection scrolls.  With the lich dead there was a spot of shuffling round to try and trap the demi-lich in place.  However, that proved unnecessary as Kangaxx died without attempting to run.

While in the vicinity the duo sanitised Prebek's house and went on to find 'Montaron' for Xzar.  Then they ran through Mae'Var's quests and have just accepted the task of clearing his Guild-house.  The close escape was when Dwarberg used some arrows of biting to try and shut down Rayic's spells.  That was successful, but only after Dwarberg had to save against a FoD spell (would have died with a roll of 6 or under).

Stats:
Wallop, berserker L11, HPs 101 (incl. 5 from helm), kills 395
Dwarberg, berserker L11, HPs 104, kills 308

Update 2.4; Trust Noone!

Trademeet to Umar hills;
I removed the Un from the Undead in the grave yard, gave the item to Logan (+1 rep) which the uppity Lord Skarmaen foolishly took exception to… he dropped nice armour though. We arbitrated peace talks in Umar hills & swapped some blood for a sword… these two small quests gave me the extra funds to recharge the “Wand of Cloudkill” for Trishia which was quite fortuitous as a double pack of trolls tried to delay us when we got to Nalias’ house.

Actually I knew the trolls would be there and this ambush is only notable because the experience gave Puk his ninth level… one pip in darts (Fire seeds) and dual to Cleric *. :wub:

Onwards to save the keep;
‘Farsight’ to spot them then (thief/ skull) Traps and clouds to kill them i.e. standard anti troll tactics cleared the peons. I did try and save Galicas but it didn’t take and I was forced to kill him… O’well I figger it’s the attempt that really counts.

Posted Image

Even with Scs Torgal is still all muscle with no brains [2] Cloudkill and [1] Deathfog (scroll) finished the fight before it really started.

p.s. Puk got the FoA and I’m off to the other keep next.

* Druid makes a much better fighter and Puk practically loses the [4] dagger now {, the [1] two handed sword & [1] Bow where always designed to be scrapped} but they did allow him to get through BG1 and the fact is that the party just doesn’t need another Druid.
