Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 24 - (update 3)
Wallop, dwarf berserker (Grond0) & Dwarberg, dwarf berserker (Gate70)

A pretty comfortable session saw the duo up to the dizzy heights of L13 and a further half attack a round.

Things started with Mae'Var.  His thieves are not really up to a fighter assault and only caused a few scratches.  Wallop then suggested taking on Mencar to get his plate armour.  However, he also wanted some summons to stop Brennan running away with his invisibility ring.
- a trip to the Bridge District picked up the berserker horn.  While there the duo also raged through some assassins and ghasts to solve the skinner murders and raged again to save Sansuki from some searching vampires.
- the Graveyard District yielded Kitthix, with a HP bonus from the green ioun stone.  Daystar provided a quick end for the spiders seeking revenge for the death of their mistress.
- the Trademeet genies provided an efreeti bottle as well as the shield of harmony as a potential back-up for rage.

Back in the city the assault on Mencar went to plan.  Brennan did indeed try to run, but the summons did their job.  Wallop started off making use of the throwing hammer bought in Trademeet, but switched to melee to help out Dwarberg who was struggling to finish off Mencar.

The Fallen Paladins duly fell, Anarg being briefly held up as the first Kitthix web victim.  Then the duo decided to go in search of the Mace of Disruption.  Lassal had had enough after only two hits and pointed the way to the Bridge District.  There, a Guild Contact gave directions on to the Graveyard.  Vampire HQ was generally easy enough, though Wallop did get caught without rage twice and drained.  A complement of summons helped Dwarberg confront Tanova and her spells and another lot provided support against Bodhi - probably unnecessary as she was running after only a round anyway.

On the way back to the Docks some kidnappers were shown the error of their ways by Dwarberg showing off the power of his new halberd.  Aran has received a vampire update, but told the duo still have further preparations to make before they go in search of Imoen.

Stats:
Wallop, berserker L13, HPs 112 (incl. 10 from ioun stone), kills 475
Dwarberg, berserker L13, HPs 115 (incl. 5 from helm), kills 368
Dwarberg has now bought the Harmonium halberd and inherited the Ring of Gaxx, so should start closing the gap.

Luck on the next run... Do you always play good?

@everyone: Thanks for your condelences. It's first time I died this way...I usually remember about the rod, but there were a number of distractions going on (pokeman movies, kids), but that's not an excuse...

@USSNorway: No, but since I often play a paladin, there are severe consequences if I don't play good...

@Alesia: Will have to think about what to do next. I was thinking possibly of a 3 man party for both BG 1 and BG 2, but not sure yet what kind of make-up of the party do I want. It's been quite a while since my PC was a ranger, so thought about being that, with two other support characters, perhaps a cleric/mage and thief. Another viable possiblity for support characters could be a bard and a cleric/thief. Or possibly class combos could be a mage/thief and a druid. Actually on second thought, another possible combo is mage/thief and human fighter, to dual to druid in BG 2.

Update 2.5; Trust Noone!

Watchers L1, Toes in the water;
At this time in the game it’s a good bet we’ll get some nice gear… Cassia proved too much for the peons and splitting up the statues gave us the edge against them.

Loot of note;
Weapons are a dart for Daemonique with a sword each for Valando & Edward witch gives us all at least one +3 item but the real treasure is the non-weapons; bag/ belt for ammo, potion case and a friendly golem. I was tempted to excavate deeper but no one around Athkatla can upgrade tob weapons so it’s back to the main plot for this little black duck… hold on Imoen! :wub:

Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 24 - (update 4)
Wallop, dwarf berserker (Grond0) & Dwarberg, dwarf berserker (Gate70)

A quick session last night posed no difficulties for a couple of ragers.

The opening gambit was getting the Mace of Disruption upgraded - Sir Sarles and Neb helping along the way.  The Lathander temple then asked for their relic to be recovered.  That proved a bit more difficult than expected as Tanova and a couple of vampires turned up to hassle Wallop while he was about to talk to Travin.  Dwarberg was a long way off ready to invade Borinall's house, but rushed across in time to help out before Wallop's rage expired.

With the IMoD to hand the duo returned to Trademeet to complete their work there.  The Druid Grove was soon pacified (just watching Cernd do his business) before a couple more unneeded reputation points were gained for helping Tiris and clearing the tomb.

Stats:
Wallop, berserker L13, HPs 112 (incl. 10 from ioun stone), kills 491
Dwarberg, berserker L13, HPs 115 (incl. 5 from helm), kills 418

Dwarberg cut Wallop's lead considerably in that session - killing 3 times as many enemies as Wallop.  He was helped by being the designated troll killer for the day.

A little help guys?

Edward is the protagonist for this run and it’s been a good while since I’ve done the thief stronghold quests.

I want to go and get Imoen but is that going to muck up the quests like it does with the Ranger stronghold?

From memory the Thief stronghold just gives money and I’m not stressed about that… Are there any items or pitfalls to leaving for spellhold early?

@ussnorway: I never done a thief's stronghold before (yeah, just like never run as paladin) but from Dan Simpson's FAQ it looks like that guild doesn't *just gives money* - Renal want a profit from it and if you fail to pay a quota you'll lose a guild. Don't know if it's time-dependent (like ranger's stronghold) though.

There's one encounter that triggers fairly soon after you get the thieves guild and there are a few scripted conversations as well, but nothing you would miss too much. Keeping hold of the stronghold is quite tricky as you get a pretty limited time to pay your dues, so you might well want to just forget it. Note that you do get one chance to pay a fine and reclaim the stronghold if you've forfeited it for non-payment, so you could do that after returning from Spellhold if you wanted.

 Corey_Russell/Dogdancing Multi-Player No-Reload
Loqi - Gnomish Fighter/Cleric
Gum - Human Level 7 Berserker > Level 11 thief
Bait - Human level 7 berserker/level 13 thief (deceased - killed permanently by Thaxssyllyia)

Dogdancing has been overwhelemed with Real Life of late but the duo had a chance to adventure last night so they did. They decided now was a good time to get the haste boots in the Planar Prison. The duo took a beating, but they did win the initial battle, haste boots going to Gum.

Next major challenge was the umberhulks and a Thrall mage. For this portion, Loqi stopped dual-wielding and donned the fortress shield - even with his -10 AC, Loqi took a huge beating and needed at least one RoR heal from Gum - Gum also had to RoR heal herself as well. But the team did win. Team getting dangerous low on heal potions (3). We used our Arieal Servant vs. the Master of Thralls, though Loqi did assist once the Arieal Servant had the Master's attention, with Gum assisting with her +2 throwing axe - success!

The team then destroyed the orb, freeing the thralls, then the team rushed the Warden's position. Gum was confused and no where to be seen, but it didn't matter as the Ariel Servant managed to kill the Warden very quickly, with some assist from Loqi's sling. Time to loot up and clear out. We of course refused Haer'Dalis services.

So was time to identify our massive loot (neither character has good lore) - the duo tried the merchant just outside Five Flagons, but he can't identify anything. So we then went to Waukeen's Promenadate the merchant by the Northern Exit could identify, so we sold there. Loqi made a huge blunder, - he was supposed to identify 7 valuable items, but instead he sold them for 1 gold each! Doh! The duo lost probably about 8000 gold...we didn't need any of the loot, however, so we didn't buy it back, plus we are at 68000 gold once Loqi sold his stuff, so it's not like we are hurting for cash...

Loqi decided the team needs to stop by Watcher's Keep - we might get more heal potions there, as well as we could really use the ammo belt. We left the statues alone for now, as well as the powerful golems by the lich, and cleared the rest of the 1st level. Ammo belt and heal potions were the most help of the loot. We did get a +3 returning dart that Gum could use anytime we needed a +3 ranged weapon, but put in our bag of holding for now.

It was getting late, so the team saved their session here. Next session, will try to get the illithium for Gum, then will do the main story line - Mook's been waiting at the dock for many days now, hopefully she won't be too mad of our delay...

" Loqi took a huge beating and needed at least one RoR heal from Gum - Gum also had to RoR heal herself as well"

Loqi was the only recipient of a ROR heal. Only being in the party 8 days and change, I saw no point in wasting a charge on Gum. A heal potion was effective for her low hi points.

Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 24 - (update 5)
Wallop, dwarf berserker (Grond0) & Dwarberg, dwarf berserker (Gate70)

An extended session yesterday saw plenty of territory covered and the duo are now in action at Spellhold.

Things started in the Umar Hills.  There were no liches in the ruined temple, which made that pretty easy (apart from the 3 flame strikes Dwarberg suffered talking to the statue).  Thaxy was attacked while neutral and was at near death before his buffs fired.  They allowed him to survive Dwarberg's opening 10 round rage, making him retreat a bit.  However, while Thaxy wasted his breath on Wallop Dwarberg sneaked back up behind to help finish off the dragon.  The Shade Lord was a bit similar, buffing up at near death.  However, Dwarberg picked out the right mirror to attack just before the Shade Lord's blade barrier formed.  Before leaving Umar Valygar's body was also picked up.

Back in the city the next target was the Unseeing Eye.  Balduran's shield did the heavy work there against the beholders and everything else went down pretty easily (still no lich amongst the undead opponents).

On to Windspear to return some acorns and confront another dragon.  Firkraag went down pretty fast - though it was a good job Wallop had remembered to put on his asbestos pants!

In the city again it was time to clean up the sewers.  Tarnor and his hatchet-men went down whimpering about how unfair it was of Dwarberg to one-shot Gaius.  The illithids failed to suck Dwarberg even once as the duo raged their way to collect the Hammer of Thunderbolts - Dwarberg again finishing the job in style.  Mekrath also fell quickly, though it took a while to batter a way through the defences of the 3 yuan-ti mages - Wallop would probably have been better off using Firetooth rather than his throwing hammer there.

This run there was no error in talking with Haer'Dalis and the Planar Prison was soon opened.  The slight warning from Mekrath's yuan-ti was not heeded though as Dwarberg tried a frontal assault on another group of yuan-ti mages.  They were joined by a mage thrall and spell damage soon had Dwarberg running.  He thought he had safely got away, but a second round of damage from a scorcher finished him off.  Luckily Wallop had just inherited a rod of resurrection from Mekrath and the duo were soon back in business.  The Master of Thralls lasted only moments and the Warden also went down a bit easier than expected - partly helped by initially failing his saving throw against a stinking cloud from the efreeti.

After reviewing equipment needed for the journey the duo took ship to Brynnlaw.  Perth provided access to the prison, along with a book of infinite True Sight.  Inside Spellhold the first level has been cleared, with the exception of the yuan-ti guarding the exit to the next level.

Stats:
Wallop, berserker L19, HPs 132 (incl. 12 from ioun stone), kills 682
Dwarberg, berserker L19, HPs 133 (incl. 5 from helm), kills 677, 1 death
Dwarberg continues to reel in the lead Wallop inherited from BG1 and should overtake him next session.

Wrecking Crew VII (update 1)
After working so hard to make it through BG1, you might expect me to take a bit more care at the start of BG2 - or perhaps you wouldn't!

The Crew were basically much too strong for the dungeon inhabitants, but had 2 deaths anyway.  The first was almost forgivable when 2-H died in a trap.  I hadn't realised it was a repeating trap and it was a bit mean in triggering twice while she was crossing it.

The second was pure carelessness when Halberd failed to get her pathfinding right and also blundered into a trap and died.  Even down to 4 members the Crew were able to finish everything off pretty easily though (except Ulvaryl who ran away in bat shape).

Emerging from the dungeon the Crew patronised a nearby temple and sorted out equipment. Then they wreckedrestored the circus before paying a visit to Gaelan Bayle.  The whole Crew quickly disposed of Cohrvale & Bregg on the way to the Copper Coronet before Boss demonstrated that the penbow is mightier than the sword against Amalas.  It didn't take long to subdue the Beastmaster and hand control of the inn over to Hendak.  The Crew celebrated by purchasing Azuredge, sling of seeking and light crossbow of speed.

Stats (cont. from BG1):
Flail, fighter L8, 94 HPs (incl. +5 Helm, -8 Claw), 438 kills, 1 death (Kahrk)
Hammer, fighter L8, 85 HPs, 323 kills, 1 death (nereid)
2-H, fighter L8, 80 HPs, 382 kills, 2 deaths (wolf of Ulcaster, trap)
Axe, fighter L8, 93 HPs, 315 kills
Boss, fighter L8, 81 HPs, 537 kills
Halberd, fighter L8, 103 HPs, 301 kills, 2 deaths (wolf of Ulcaster, trap)

Thanks Serg, though I'm not sure safe can really describe their adventures so far!

Wreckinged Crew VII (update 2)

The first main target for the Crew was the de'Arnise Hold.  On the way there the Suna Seni ambush triggered - that was pretty easy though as a hail of missiles took the mage down before he could react.  The Renfeld ambush also triggered on the journey - and once again the mage went down under the initial assault.

Inside the Keep the Crew hurriedly tracked down some fiery arrows to be able to kill the trolls and set about clearing the ground floor.  In retrospect that was a serious error; I've been used to BGT trolls dying pretty easily, but the SCS ones could take quite a few fire arrows to kill.  As a result the Crew were left without any means to kill the last couple of trolls on the ground floor.  Rather than go back to the city I stubbornly sent them upstairs to batter a few trolls unconscious on the way to the yuan-ti mage.  However, the lack of elemental ammunition proved a handicap there as well and his numerous sunfires, chain lightnings, cone of colds, fireballs, lightning bolts etc wrecked the Crew.  They're quite a sturdy lot though and by the time they were all down, the mage appeared to be reduced to 1st and 2nd level spells and Boss just managed to work his way through the stoneskins before his own HPs ran out against a stream of magic missiles.
Image IPB

Incidentally, up to now I've still been observing the same restrictions on gameplay as in BG1, i.e. only passive magical items allowed except for green scrolls and magical ammunition.  I'm not sure if that will be feasible too much longer, but I'll probably try and continue for a little bit further.  For some of the mage battles that will mean I'll need to start off accepting the need for casualties, rather than trying to keep everyone alive.

Stats (cont. from BG1):
Flail, fighter L8, 94 HPs (incl. +5 Helm, -8 Claw), 443 kills, 2 deaths
Hammer, fighter L8, 85 HPs, 323 kills, 2 deaths
2-H, fighter L8, 80 HPs, 386 kills, 3 deaths
Axe, fighter L8, 93 HPs, 318 kills, 1 death
Boss, fighter L8, 81 HPs, 556 kills
Halberd, fighter L8, 103 HPs, 302 kills, 3 deaths

Wrecking Crew VII (update 3)

Boss managed to make it back to the City without being ambushed and invested almost all his hard-earned money in reviving the Crew at a temple.  A week of bed rest at an inn and they were ready to adventure again in a pretty controlled session.

Back at de'Arnise Hold they put a few trolls down unconscious on the way to Glaicas. He was hiding a few acid arrows, but the main prizes were his full plate and FoA head for Flail.  With the acid head added the FoA could usually kill normal trolls, but still not the tougher ones, so a couple of spectral trolls were left locked in rooms as the Crew progressed towards the golems.  The smaller golems were killed quickly and the side containers looted for a magic axe, hammer and FoA upgrade. With those extra weapons that could hit the iron golem the Crew were able to defeat it easily enough and take the Elven Court Bow for 2-H.

For the umber hulks Flail enticed them into the next room one at a time, allowing Hammer to shut the door behind them.  When there was only one left Flail allowed it to chase her round while Hammer went to put the stew in the feeding bowl.  Torgal and his companions would be a pretty nasty fight at the moment, so the Crew left them for now.

Back in the City the Crew went into the sewers under the Copper Coronet.  I noticed some thieves (from CoM Encounters mod) waiting there just in time to avoid barging into them and managed to kill them reasonably easily.  That got everyone up to level 9.  Capt Haegan and his guards just caused a scratch or two and the slaver mages only managed 1 skull trap between them under elemental assault - leaving everyone with enough HPs to run over the poison trap on the way out to report to Hendak.

With the slaver loot the Crew paid Gaelan Bayle and set off for the Docks.  Hareishan was eating some thieves there and became a first Azuredge victim.  Renfeld was given over to the Harpers, though he had actually died on the way.  That didn't prevent Xzar asking the Crew to get into Harper HQ though and that was soon accomplished when Prebek and Sanasha both failed to get their buffs up in time.

After Xzar was assassinated the Crew unleashed a flurry of missiles at Lucette - he died after taking 101 HPs.  Also cleared out the pirate holdout (jumping in and out to avoid the mage's spells).

Did Mae'Var's tasks - running up and down stairs against Rayic.  Invading the guild was easy enough and I also looted it as far as possible - resulting in needing to get a green scroll to restore a stoned Halberd.

Stats (cont. from BG1):
Flail, fighter L9, 103 HPs (incl. +5 Helm, -9 Claw), 497 kills, 2 deaths
Hammer, fighter L9, 92 HPs, 335 kills, 2 deaths
2-H, fighter L9, 90 HPs, 402 kills, 3 deaths
Axe, fighter L9, 100 HPs, 342 kills, 1 death
Boss, fighter L9, 93 HPs, 586 kills
Halberd, fighter L9, 115 HPs, 320 kills, 3 deaths

The Story of BlackStrider & The Motley Crue (Update #27):

Not much left for Avatars to finish before the Suldanessellar. Not much in number of tasks but pretty much in their difficulty... First we made it through the Illithids lair in the Sewers. With the help of Planetar it appears to be almost a smooth sailing. When he gone we used our remaining summons to reveal a constant hiding Alhoon and suck his spells. Then Pot cast Simulacrum, buff him lightly (not much left at the moment) then shapechanged into the Spider and load Alhoon full of poison (as it appeared he is quite susceptible to it):

Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB

Twisted Rune was next and that was a complete disaster! We buffed as usual but forgot to finish with Spell Immunity: Abjuration and naturaly were stripped of them all immediately! Furthermore Shangalar somehow ignored all Alesia's traps (one spike and four normal). I just don't understand how (may be that was his PvMW or something else, I don't know but the fact is that). Then he stripped our protections, fired a contingency with greater malison and hit with a Dragon Breath followed by a Comet - Pot is dead. Meanwhile our Planetar stepped in his own Fire Storm and went hostile! And our Aerial Servant was dominated by Vaxxal. The duo immediately began to chase the Crue. Alesia and BlackStrider filled the Shangalar's location with a couple of Cloudkills while Vaxxal fell to Fire Storm. With them being disabled (in Shanglar's case not completely though) our main threat were our own Planetar and Aerial Servant. Both hit very hard so soon Krimlor and Corey were dead as well... Alesia and BlackStrider could stand their grounds under PvMW and continued to feed Shangalar with Cloudkills. In confined space that wasn't an easy task but eventually he fell and Grond finished Planetar (twice naturally - as Planetar full healed himself once). We rised our comrades via RoR (only one charge left afterwards), killed a vampire and fighter and then cloudkilled the mage. Overall a complete mess...

The buffing routine vs Demon Knights took much more time then the fight itself as Planetar soloed them quickly and easily.

So now we want to make our last shopping in Athkatla and onto the Suldanessellar.

Current state:

BlackStrider: Blade (25), 254 kills (Shade Lord);
Alesia The Curious: Mage (14)/Thief (17), 105 kills (Shade Lich); (1 death);
Grond The Pathfinder: Archer (19), 341 kills (Bone Golem; I think, our Planetar should be here); (1 death);
Krimlor the Dragonslayer: Fighter (14)/Cleric (15), 408 kills (Firkraag); (2 death);
Pot The Selfless: Mage (19), 69 kills (Shangalar, that was one of his initial Cloudlkills naturaly, I think); (3 death);
Corey Russell: Undead Hunter (19), 53 kills (Bodhi) (1 death).

Cassia The Furious: Shapeshifter(14), 484 kills (Alchra Diagott); (4 death); Gone...

to be continued...

Wrecking Crew VII (final update)

The Crew eventually came to a sticky end, though not before invading vampire HQ and defeating Bodhi.  Hammer was killed in that fight (first casualty for quite a while) and others were drained and wounded.  I probably should have rested in the graveyard, but tried to travel to a temple and came across one of the SCS ambushes.  These are pretty challenging fights at any time.  If the party had been at full strength they would probably have been all right, but as it was they failed to get a quick kill on the mage and the clerics and thieves made them pay.  Boss was the last to go - I hadn't given up hope even at that stage, but a fractional movement error saw him get boxed in and he had no chance against multiple opponents in melee - at the close I couldn't bring myself to let him drink any of the multiple potions he was carrying.

Yes.  Having been fighting against the odds for a while I'm going to have another straightforward attempt to make it through ToB.

Maus - dwarven swashbuckler (update 1)

Maus had a quick run through BG1 and has made a start in Athkatla by completing the dungeon.  The only hint of danger there was when I didn't pre-lay traps when attacking one of the golems and Maus had to quickly nip back the other side of the doorway to hide before finishing the golem off.

He's not operating under any restrictions and is currently stealing himself some better equipment in the Promenade.

Update 2.6; Trust Noone!

@Grond0, Good luck with Maus! :wub:

Paying my dues;
I’m now a fully payed up member of the Thieves union guild and about to set sail for spell hold… only two close calls and they were both arguably caused by pilot error.

The first and most dangerous was when Edward allowed his cloak to run out which would still have been ok except it happened during an ambush… once I stopped cursing he just drank a “potion of invisibility” and we moved on.

Image IPB

The second hiccup was Cassia losing her mind shield whilst stamping out a nest of vampires… a feral cat can be a real bugger but Edward tossed in a stun trap which gave Puk the breathing space to ‘Sanctuary’ and turn the vamps away so, crisis avoided.

Image IPB

Current stats are;

1.    Edward Noone the Human Bounty Hunter is level 13 & spends most of his time detecting traps/ invisibles or using “Tansheron's Bow +3”.

2.    Valando Reisenstar the Elf Skald is level 13 and mostly sings with the odd spell or arrows for good luck.

3.    Puk Darkstar the Human Wizard Slayer is level 9 – dualed to Cleric level 10  & spends most of his time tossing “Fire seeds” or using “FoA”… he just got a new +2 mace which will help him fight against the Vamps.

4.    Cassia the Gnome Shapeshifter is level 13… she is pure puss and doesn’t need a weapon for her to have tanking fun.

5.    Daemonique Casta the Half-Elf Avenger is level 13 and the main party caster… she can tank if there is need i.e. something has gone horribly wrong.

•    Tashia the Sorcerer is level 12 and spends most of her time using ‘Melf's Minute Meteors’.

Maus - dwarven swashbuckler (update 2)

With upgraded equipment from the Promenade Maus got straight down to the real action by opening up the Unseeing Eye and then doing the liches using a protection from undead scroll and 2 potions of speed - he was lucky there that the Renfeld ambush didn't trigger while he was travelling.  For Kangaxx I didn't think sunray worked on the demi-lich, but just tested to make sure.  Daystar's bonus damage against undead finished Kangaxx off quickly anyway.

One oddity noted was that using the RoAC made the Cowled Wizards warn Maus about magic use - that must be a result of the latest version of the Fixpack that tweaked it so the ring could be used on another person.  Soon after, Renfeld did appear and Maus returned him before setting off for Watcher's Keep.

The run nearly ended at the Keep.  Maus laid a series of 6 traps in the entrance hall, with the thought he might be able to kill a vampiric wraith with them if one were waiting.  In fact 2 were waiting so close to the door that both had hit him before the enemy in sight autopause triggered (I imagine Maus laying traps had activated them from their normal position).  Maus immediately took his first healing potion of the run and that kept him alive just long enough to take the few strides to the exit (he was hit again twice doing that).  He left WK at that point, with just Firetooth and a potion bag, rather than risk further punishment.

Back in the city Maus restored the circus and then introduced himself to Aran Linvail.  He used the Rod of Terror on some ambushing orogs to wrap his charisma round to 25.  Then, to punish the Cowled Wizards for being over-zealous, Maus killed the attacking groups with a series of 6 traps laid - the continuing trap damage meaning even the most powerful stoneskinned Wizards died.
