Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 24 - (update 6)
Wallop, dwarf berserker (Grond0) & Dwarberg, dwarf berserker (Gate70)

Last night's session saw the duo in turbo-charged mode in the Underdark .

After clearing a few drow some trapped souls were released.  That normally brings the potential danger of maze and imprisonment - but not for Dwarberg

After helping a svirfneblin village the kuo-toa enclave was attacked.  Dwarberg took a slight risk there in attacking one of the Demon Knights in melee (risking decapitation), but the Knight only managed one (missed) attack before being overwhelmed.  The Prince failed to survive a GWW even without bothering to taint him.

The beholders were even less of a problem - Balduran's shield + rage ensuring the duo picked up an obscene amount of XP for just a few minutes work.

The illithid required slightly more caution, with Dwarberg losing bits of his brain several times.  However, it still wasn't long before he got his revenge on the Master Brain.

After a warm welcome in the drow city the duo ventured out again to save Phaere.  On the way Boz did rather more damage to Wallop than he's had for quite a while - Dwarberg seemed quite pleased to collect the Dragon Halberd that Boz was using.

There were no problems in saving Phaere or undertaking more tasks in the city.  Wallop lived up to his middle name (Crash, Bang, Wallop) with Phaere, but was too eager to leave her quarters after being told to meet her and the Matron Mother in the temple.  As a result Phaere was left sulking alone in her rooms and the Matron Mother wouldn't talk to us.  Various things were tried, including ctrl-Q'ing Phaere into the party, but with no joy and the session ended there (I've now found the appropriate code to summon Phaere through the console, so we will be able to pick up the intended story line next time rather than having to slaughter all the drow in the city to get out).

Stats:
Wallop, berserker L24, HPs 148 (incl. 13 from ioun stone), kills 825
Dwarberg, berserker L24, HPs 148 (incl. 5 from helm), kills 840, 1 death
Dwarberg did indeed take the lead in that session, although Wallop kept up reasonably well - picking up his own boots of speed in Spellhold helped.

Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 24 - (update 7)
Wallop, dwarf berserker (Grond0) & Dwarberg, dwarf berserker (Gate70)

Further rapid progress today saw the duo burst through Irenicus's defences into ToB.

The session started with some egg fiddling resulting in a demonic end for Phaere and the Matron Mother.  A rapid escape from the city followed before the drow realised who was to blame for the fiasco.  Adalon was left alive to enjoy her reunion with her eggs, while the duo exited to the surface.

Back in Athkatla Wallop forged the Silver Sword and the Equalizer and repacked various stored equipment from the Promenade.  However, with both characters rooting in the bag at once a few glitches resulted - definite losses included the pantaloons and the Gesen shaft.  However, those were not seen as vital so no remedial action was taken.

The invasion of the Twisted Rune went pretty well.  Both characters had to do a bit of running to stay out of touch range after their initial rages expired during a timestop, but did that safely.  They moved on to the Planar Sphere.  Again the main danger was imprisonment, but rage successfully defeated the halfling attempt at that and they stormed through the rest of the battles.  With the ogre gauntlets acquired, Wallop forged Crom Fayr as his new melee weapon.

The Guarded Compound went according to plan - the last enemy falling just as rages expired.  That was the last significant bit of work outstanding in the city so the duo moved on to the vampire hideout.  Initial explorations were met with an empty location, but after Dwarberg went back to the surface and clicked on one of the now non-functioning doors the enemies duly spawned. Wallop got drained fairly early on, but ignored that and just acted in a support role.  There was not much support required - Wallop was a bit shocked to find that by the time he had put in the command to start a GWW Dwarberg had already killed Bodhi!

Reporting to Elhan opened up access to Suldanesselar.  There were again no real problems there.  Wallop continued to struggle to decide what to do before noticing that Dwarberg had killed the opponents, but did rack up a number of easy kills himself with the auto-kill function Crom Faeyr offered against some of the golems.  It wasn't long before the duo were exterminating some parasites and targeting Irenicus on the tree.  He made a nasty opening with a timestop that ran out Dwarberg's rage and mazed him - good job it wasn't imprisonment.  However, Wallop kept away from him until Dwarberg reappeared and rage and GWW finished the job quickly thereafter.

In hell Wallop picked tears providing 10% MR, 20% elemental resistance, +2 saves and immunity to normal weapons.  The latter proved fatal for Sarevok as Wallop picked up +3 strength to bring his throwing hammer damage a bit closer to Crom Faeyr.  As in our last run, the second incarnation of Irenicus took damage as he was moving towards his third incarnation and died as a result despite his plaintive cries of protest.

The final action of the session was in ToB as Illasera and her Reavers were shown the error of their ways.

Stats:
Wallop, berserker L29, HPs 162 (incl. 14 from ioun stone), kills 921
Dwarberg, berserker L29, HPs 163 (incl. 5 from helm), kills 931, 1 death
Wallop's increased strength and improved weapon helped him shade the kills in that session and keep a good close contest going into ToB.

Maus - dwarven swashbuckler (Update 3)

Maus did the Harper HQ - Prebek and Sanasha both falling to one-shot stealth attacks.  Then he went to the Graveyard to get Kitthix and the green ioun stone from Pai'Na - daystar killed all but one of the spiders.  While there he acquired another sword from the Crypt King and dug up Tirdir.

Back at the Bridge District he picked up the berserker horn and then solved the skinner murders (daystar sunray for ghasts and traps + summons upstairs for Rune assassins).  Kitthix and the warrior helped again and Maus punished some kidnappers and then went to see what ransom they had demanded (after going back to collect the appropriate note when Welther refused to talk to him initially).

Returning to the Docks, Maus went in search of Mook.  The RoAC (now safe to use) protected him from domination, while a sunray was enough for Lassal.  I was briefly confused as to why Lassal was only shown as near death after taking over a 1,000 damage, but realised that he was protected by the need to choke out his dying dialogue.

Some Guild Contacts described the location of vampire HQ and Maus proceeded there.  I don't think I've ever done it before, but this time Maus used a protection from undead scroll to clear the place of everything except Lassal - who wouldn't talk.  After waiting for him to have his conversation, 3 traps were pre-laid for Bodhi and a couple more hits took her to near death.  However, she proved hard to finish off, resisting a sunray and killing Kitthix, the warrior and hitting Maus twice (draining 4 levels) before he finally got the deciding blow.

At the Docks again Maus started the Mae'Var quests, but once more needed a bit of luck against Tanova.  I was worrying about her level drain and forgot to provide protection against domination & fear - Maus having a spell save of 2 at the time.  Once the spells were on the way I had no potions to combat them, but fortunately Maus saved against both.  Rayic expired of a trap overdose while the thieves managed only a single backstab while defending Mae'Var.  After accepting the Guild Maus also fended off an ambush by the last remnants of the Mae'Var regime.

The Temple of Helm have got a new sculpture and Lathander an heirloom ring.  The Order of the Radiant Heart have had to be contented with the return of a borrowed cup.

Stats (cont. from BG1)
Maus, swashbuckler L13, 61 HPs, 260 kills

Maus - dwarven swashbuckler (Update 4)

Normally the Copper Coronet is the first thing I do after the Promenade, so Hendak had to wait an unusually long time this run.  However, once Maus arrived he was soon presented with control of the establishment and not much later the threat of the slavers was gone for good.

After buying the sword of flame from Bernard Maus went to the de'Arnise Hold and rapidly cleared that - nothing doing him much damage there.

On to Trademeet, which also offered little challenge.  Maus is now just using melee most of the time, though the group of 3 giant trolls in the troll mound and Kyland Lin's druids both received a mixture of summons, traps and stealth shots.  One of the trolls fighting the druids also proved remarkably resistant to the sword of flame (so Maus called in the efreeti for help).  There was a quick trip back to Athkatla to pay his guild dues before Maus returned to Trademeet to accept the grateful thanks of the population, help Tiris and clear the tomb. Maus got to L21 here, bringing his standard spell save down to a rather safer -2.

Next was Windspear Hills where there was an immediate warning not to get too cocky.  I was concentrating on the mage and didn't notice until nearly too late that the other bandit had hit Maus 4 times in a row.  Entering the dungeon Maus was immediately drained by a vampiric mist that joined Chief Digdag, but he initially ignored that to progress through golems and vampires.  However, there were lots of the latter, which took a couple of rests to finish off - meaning Maus needed another trip back to Athkatla to pay his dues (and get his levels back).  Finishing off the rest of the dungeon was relatively routine, though Firkraag was left for while.

After paying another round of dues Maus arrived at the Umar Hills and has just taken the blood of a killer mimic - getting to level 24 in the process.  He can now proudly wield a 2-handed sword (along with lots of other things).

Stats (cont. from BG1)
Maus, swashbuckler L24, 91 HPs (incl. 8 from ioun stone), 696 kills

The Avatars just liberated the Suldanessellar. Not much issues here but both Grond and Krimlor died via Nizidramanii'yt's horrid breath...(those improved, triple health Dragons are too much for us as it seems...). In the Temple we immediately summoned the Leaf Lord making the fight just like a park walk (he eliminated most of enemies except Rakshasa and Glabrezu whom we managed to defeat by ourselves just in time). At the Tree we first sent a Hakeashar on Irenicus while fighting his gated Demons and Efreeti with the support of Planetar. Then Pot stripped his protections and finished him with ADHW and Wand of Lightning.
So now, for all of our efforts, we are in Hell (for what, I wonder...

Maus - dwarven swashbuckler (Update 5)

Maus is coming towards the end of his time in Athkatla.

The session started with him working his way through various undead at the ruined temple.  The liches were the greatest challenge - opening summons then a DUHM + Firetooth whirlwind seemed to provide a good answer.  He managed the statue conversations first time.  A whirlwind didn't do much to Thaxy, but traps more than made up for that!  The Shade Lord got mirrors up during a Firetooth Whirlwind, but it didn't save him.

Picked up Valygar's body (and donned his armour) on the way back to report to the mayor.

After paying more dues in the city Maus went back to finish off Firkraag.  The dragon survived a Firetooth whirlwind and the inital damage of a set of traps, but follow-up trap damage killed him before he could trigger a time trap.

Back in the city it was time to clean up the temple sewers.
- Gaxx haste for Roger's troll.
- WW for rakshasa.
- WW (one-shotted Gaius anyway) + time-trap for Tarnor's gang.
- traps and melee for illithids
- first use of Carsomyr to dispel Mekrath's stoneskin during a time trap; cloudkill wand for yuan-ti.

Following a gem trail Maus soon found himself in the Planar Prison.  He arrived invisible and a Carsomyr WW killed both mages before they could take any action - leaving the remaining ambushers helpless.  The boots of speed replaced his stealthy ones - meaning HiS and MS are now only at 175 each.  Groups of mages got the cloudkill treatment while the Warden chased Maus into a time trap.

The Planar Sphere nearly all went very straightforwardly. The only worrying moment was when I was surprised to see Maus down to 17 HPs against an adamantite golem and realised I had missed an earlier hit against him.  I also found Maus was out of WWs after time-trapping the Tanari'i, but a Gaxx haste did the job comfortably anyway.

Stats (cont. from BG1)
Maus, swashbuckler L31, 106 HPs (incl. 9 from ioun stone), 922 kills
Maus is now horribly over-levelled for his opponents, but I'm trying not to be worried about that!

Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 24 - (update 8)
Wallop, dwarf berserker (Grond0) & Dwarberg, dwarf berserker (Gate70)

A shortish session last night saw Gromnir become the first major victim of ToB.

The first pocket plane challenge saw a stream of attackers eventually dry up.  Wallop gently queried whether Dwarberg would like a healing potion, but he gruffly (and correctly) said there would be no need for that.

Saradush was explored and the duo raged their way through a nest of vampires without problems.  Some backstabbing thieves nearly had Dwarberg, but he survived to move on into the palace.  There was a bit of confusion there when Dwarberg told Wallop to concentrate on the mage with the blue robes.  It became a bit like a 3 stooges sketch as Dwarberg clarified that he meant Karun the Black, while Wallop asked if he was talking about this bloke in red.  Here you can play 'spot the difference' with simultaneous screenshots from our 2 computers.
Posted Image
When the fight got under way Dwarberg swiftly killed his mage and Gromnir, but Wallop couldn't get through Karun's defences and had to run round for a while before PFMW ran out and he could make a Firetooth GWW tell.

Next on the list was Yaga Shura.  His soldiers and a few fire giants pointed the way to the Temple of Mir where a sterner test waited.  Wallop was unable to rage in time to avoid being drained in the initial ambush by the Master Wraith's forces, but the duo were still able to clear the initial attackers without too much of a problem (running round and turning to fight with GWW periodically).  Wallop restored his missing level, but Dwarberg moved slightly towards the temple before the duo had healed and activated a skeleton assassin and accompanying skeleton warriors.  They hit pretty hard and Wallop even had to consider the use of a healing potion (though didn't bother in the end).

Yaga-Shura's secret heart is now known and will be the initial target next time.

Stats:
Wallop, berserker L31, HPs 169 (incl. 15 from ioun stone), kills 990
Dwarberg, berserker L31, HPs 169 (incl. 5 from helm), kills 992, 1 death
The berserkers continue to be very closely matched and it's anyone's guess who will triumph in the kills race.  Dwarberg should get some easy kills with the Wave, but Wallop may pick up a few of his own with Crom Faeyr.

Maus - dwarven swashbuckler (Update 6)

Maus has passed through Spellhold and is rapidly approaching the level cap.

In the City Maus made his way to the Unseeing Eye.  He had the Shield of Balduran, but didn't put it to use - though there were several cloudkills used on groups of beholders.  The Eye itself was a bit more troublesome than I expected.  Possibly because Maus approached under stealth the rift device didn't seem to strip buffs as completely as usual and the Eye fired off 2 PW: stuns before Maus powered his WW attack through its stoneskins.  I remembered to return the Rift device before killing Gaal and leaving!

At the Guarded Compound I was ready this time for True Sight and Maus was never exposed to trouble.  Sion followed downstairs and was treated to a Carsomyr WW.  Maus just needed to keep running round with detect illusion active to prevent Ketta landing backstabs, before eventually leading him into a trap.

The last target in the City was the Twisted Rune.  Shangalar died of traps and Layene of a cloudkill overdose before she could trigger a time trap.

After taking ship for Brynnlaw Maus went to have a whirlwind conversation with Perth.  His book of infinite spells immediately produced True Seeing, but that's of little use to a thief so Maus turned the page over to find Burning Hands - which he immediately used to burn the book!

After recharging his cloudkill wand Maus moved on to Spellhold.  He had a bit of a scare there when I opened the container with the bag of holding in without checking it for traps - fortunately no maze resulted.  The lich used PFMW in contingencies on damage to keep going for a while, but fell to the third time trap used.  No problems thereafter.  Maus picked up Boots of Grounding and Boots of the North from the machine, though I don't expect him to use them.

In the final battle with Irenicus a Firetooth WW almost finished him off and he gave up soon after.  Maus then took ship with Saemon and has just arrived in the City of Caverns.

Maus, swashbuckler L38, 122 HPs (incl. 11 from ioun stone), 1,181 kills

Thanks, friends! I'm indeed happy to get that far in SCS World.

The Story of BlackStrider & The Motley Crue (Update #29. Hell Fight):

The Hell trials were completed in a good fashion and we prepared for the final confrontation with Irenicus. Aside of usual buffs we layered a bunch of traps in places where Irenicus' Demons appear but even though I spread them wide they all triggered just at the moment Irenicus appear (I'm not a bright trapper as it seems). And even though he was immediately brought at Near Death his prebuffs doesn't allowed us to finish him quickly so we retreated followed by Demons. While Irenicus was busy with restoring his health condition our Planetar killed one Glabrezu but then Irenicus arrived with Time Stop and ripped a Planetar during it while gating his own one (Fallen). We went invisible and ran onto the opposite side of arena. Fallen Planetar followed us but was quickly eliminated before other Demons arrived (we kept our distance from him to avoid being Dispelled/Vorpaled). Just at the moment he fell the Demons Teleported Without Error but we had few summons for them (a Fire Elemental and Shumbling Mounds). They were poor distraction as were immediately stunned and vorpaled but that gave us some time. Grond finished second Glabrezu but Krimlor was stunned as well (I just forgot to equip him with Ring of Free Action after buffing and Corey was thrown far away via Telekinesis and couldn't remove paralisys quickly) so even though Pot healed him once with RoR he was killed. Irenicus arrived with Spell Strike on Pot so we ran again but even though Pot saved first Symbol, Death his 49 hp were not enough to survive the second one. So we were four vs two Balors (Irenicus stayed away at the moment) so BlackStrider Tensered and went tanking (tried some more Shumbling Mounds here again but they again proved to be a poor distraction for Balors - vorpaled easily). Grond was also stunned and this time I just forgot that Corey has Remove Paralysis (I'm still not used with Paladins and view them mostly as fighters and not casters). Nonetheless BlackStrider with all his buffs and Tensered fight brilliant using Wand of Frost in between the hits. He finished the first one and Corey eliminated the second (Alesia used some scrolls of Breach to bring down their Stoneskins to speed up the process and used her Crimson Dart masterfully). Second Balor hit with Fireball in his dying agonia leaving Grond at the blink of death (only 3 hp left). With Irenicus roaming somewere far away we revived our comrades, refreshed some buffs (improving our saves mostly) and engaged. Irenicus hit with couple of ADHW and then Tensered into even more vicious killing machine! Even with our grand damage output (30-80 for each Krimlor, Grond and Corey per hit in one round) that only brough him at Barely Injured and he regenerated to full health in next round. And he even continued to cast spells in tensered state - cheater! So that was a long time kiting again (just like at level 1 out of Candlekeep) until his Tenser's Transformation expired. As long as that happened we immediately brought him into Injured in one round and withing the second Corey landed a final blow. A sigh of relief and joy that is beyond!

Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 24 - (update 9)
Wallop, dwarf berserker (Grond0) & Dwarberg, dwarf berserker (Gate70)

A somewhat scrappy session last night saw the duo past Yaga-Shura, though not without alarms.

There was a reminder on the approach to the Fire Giant Temple that giants hit pretty hard.  Taking that to heart the duo buffed up for their invasion and that went pretty smoothly.  Imix, who ended our last run, did not enjoy his (very brief) introduction to the Wave halberd.

After a brief reunion at the Temple of Mir the next stop was the Siege Camp, where Yaga-Shura was targeted and didn't last long.

The problems started with the second Pocket Plane Challenge.  Initially Wallop moved forward slightly further than intended and activated the Challenge before buffing.  As a result he didn't want to immediately confront his double and tried running round while Dwarberg sliced through other opponents.  However, this didn't work well at all as the fake Wallop was moving significantly faster than he was - even after being dispelled by Dwarberg and even when Wallop had added a potion of speed to his boots of speed (though the potion didn't last long anyway due to the double's dispelling attack).  The double also ignored invisibility, so Wallop was reduced to running round to minimise attacks, while glugging the odd healing potion to compensate for the hits he was taking.  Eventually Dwarberg managed to intervene - by slowing the double with the FoA and he was able to finish him off very shortly after that.

By contrast the Oasis offered a nice peaceful time - the opponents all being slaughtered while causing very little damage - and this opened up a route to Amkethran.  Here the duo were faced with another conundrum as Vongoethe's lich buffs allowed him to survive an initial assault, while his skeleton summons grew ever larger.  Dwarberg was cut down by a host of arrows, but Wallop seemed fairly safe while keeping his distance from the lich due to the immunity to normal and +1 weapons gained from the Tears.  I thought that Wallop would be able to use missile weapons to wear Vongoethe down, but he seemed to have unlimited stoneskins and regenerated quicker than Firetooth could do fire damage.  Finally therefore, Wallop used the rod of resurrection on Dwarberg to get a bit more muscle available.  Dwarberg initially tried to get back into melee to finish the lich quickly, but shortly retreated again as skeletons targeted him and took him down to a handful of HPs before he got away.  Digging into his bag of holding he came up with a handful of sunstone bullets and the combination of those and Firetooth was finally able to burn through Vongoethe's defences.  The remaining skeleton archers were broken down before we called it a night.

Stats:
Wallop, berserker L35, HPs 182 (incl. 16 from ioun stone), kills 1,091
Dwarberg, berserker L35, HPs 181 (incl. 5 from helm), kills 1,076, 2 deaths
Wallop re-took the kills lead for the first time in a while in that session.  I think that was mainly because of his more suitable weapons for skeleton killing and Dwarberg will no doubt look to redress the balance next time.

Maus - dwarven swashbuckler (Update 7)

Maus is chasing hard after Wallop and has made it out of the Underdark.

In the City of Caverns Maus carefully detrapped the area round the spectator before persuading it to let him take the contents.  He then made sure to pick up the Cloak of Mirroring from a recently deceased princess.  Gave the king a fake heart ... then killed him ... then killed the prince ... then shinned down a long rope into darkness.

In the Underdark Maus read a freedom scroll and helped Vithal recover items from the elemental plane before trapping the platform for his final return.  Traps and Firetooth WWs were the main means for releasing those trapped in the giant soul gem.  After re-interring a Balor for some gnomes, Maus moved on to the kuo-toa compound.  Traps and Firetooth accounted for the Demon Knights, while everything else was treated to melee attacks.  WW attacks beat down the Prince's regeneration (after I remembered to remove Belm, which bugs WW attacks).

The beholder hive was next - Firetooth WWs for the elder orbs and cloudkills for groups elsewhere.

The illithids were also pretty easy.  One interesting point I noted was that when Maus was near one of the unopenable doors, while being attacked, the illithids opened the door - even though he didn't use his control circles.  If that's standard behaviour it could be useful for someone that wants to hoard the circlets for other purposes.  By the time he got to the Master Brain Maus was out of WWs, but a Gaxx haste during a timestop trap proved enough.

After talking to Adalon Maus strolled into the drow city to look for bargains at the shops.  A few scrolls were purchased and a familiar belatedly summoned (who would have guessed a cat had survived uneaten among the drow).  He soon ventured out again to rescue Phaere - dealing with Boz and co on the way thanks to using a full quota of traps.  Ambushing a beholder got Maus his final level and he quickly ran through the rest of the city tasks and left before the drow turned hostile.

Rather than return the eggs he just attacked Adalon.  She went to near death as a result of trap damage and died during the follow-up WW when she surprisingly chose stoneskin (removable by Carsomyr), rather than PfMW.  Maus then ran past some drow to escape the Underdark.

Maus - dwarven swashbuckler (Update 8)

Maus continues to make good progress and has found himself in ToB.

He started the session having just arrived back in Athkatla.  There he sorted his inventory out, including visiting Cromwell.  Strangely, while actually in the middle of forging one weapon, Kruin dropped in for a word - but he was soon shut up by a Celestial Fury WW.   Also went to Umar to get the Human Flesh Armour made - making saving throws much more comfortable.

Next, Maus returned to Watcher's Keep, expecting the vampiric wraiths to be waiting.  However, when he went inside he found that they actually appeared to have died from the traps he set on his initial visit - so he had been scared of nothing all this time. He soon looted the top floor, including acquiring Foebane and a golem manual.

Off to confront Bodhi.  Nothing fancy here - just meleed his way through vampire HQ and struck her down.  Took the Rhynn Lanthorn to Elhan to provide entrance to Suldanesselar.  Again most work here was just done with melee, though a combination of traps helped with the black dragon.  Opened up the palace successfully, but then had to go and get the stone horn to get access to the Tree of Life.

On the Tree Maus soon killed the parasites.  He had pre-laid traps around Irenicus, but they were negated by Irenicus's contingency.  The same happened to his second time trap.  However, on the third time stop Irenicus was out of tricks and Carsomyr opened him up for the finishing touches.  I missed the point in the following cutscene where Irenicus takes a dive into some lava, but here are some new friends keen to join him.

In hell Maus collected some tears:
Pride (good) - +20% elemental resistance
Fear (good) - immunity to normal and +12 weapons
Selfishness (evil) - -2 AC
Greed (evil) - +15 HPs
Wrath (evil) - +2 strength

A time stop allowed Maus to safely kill the demons.  A number of Firetooth WWs had the slayer at near death, but he couldn't quite finish it off, so left that to dual-wielding Blackrazor / Belm while the Slayer struggled to hit him through his evasion HLA.

stats (cont. from BG1)
Maus, swashbuckler L40, 147 HPs (incl. 5 from Helm, 12 from familiar),  kills 1,497
