Three more options are crossed off my list. The pirate captain and his stowaways fail to make it out of the Ships Bounty Inn then Mencar has his pebbles crushed before Captain Dennis receives an unexpected visit in Delosar's Inn.

Raxik is thinking hard and I eventually work out what the issue is. He's weighing up the options, does he;
a) Leave the horn of Valhalla where it is.
B) Use one of the two scrolls of protection from magic.
c) Use two of the magic resistance potions.
d) Think a bit harder about how to do it.

Several tankards of mead are consumed as he mulls it over then he idly flicks through his journal to check for any other jobs (think it is only NPC quests left but there might be a few other bits). I'm busy ordering golems while inviting some special guests into Spellhold in preparation for Raxik.

I release the ogres and giants, knowing full well that Raxik would use the Hammer of Thunderbolts with excessive bludgeoning. Having seen the dwarf glug potions of mind focusing, heroism and invulnerability to deal with the group of illithid I am wary of relying on them, but they are still a possibility as he can't have that many potions in his container. Can he?

Saemon Havarian is mixing the travel rations up as Raxik heads back to Aran Linvail (having decided against the horn of Valhalla for the time being).

Day 189 hour 1
Raxik is overwhelmed by repeated doses of weevil soup and placed unconscious in my experimental jar even as Del, Valen and the other one (Parisa) start to re-corporealise. Perth ultimately proved adept at catching a whirlwind of dwarven throwers while I revel in my newfound abilities to cure light wounds, slow poison and cast DUHM.

Raxik is no further use or threat to me so I pull the emergency flush lever and he drops out of the jar into the clutches of Bodhi. I can't help feeling I should have disarmed him though.

Postscript to previous session. Raxik read the book of infinite spells : Fireball > Protection from Evil > Fireball (!) > True Sight. Stopped there as it may be more use than minor spell turning.

Day 190 hour 23

Bodhi plays a dangerous game, allowing Raxik to clear her entire playground apart from the riddling statues (no need for the ring of regeneration or the time taken). His whirlwind attack becomes a slayer whirlwind and Bodhi vanishes without saying goodbye (not dead but no dialogue : the came seems to continue fine)

Lonk takes a critical of 66 and Raxik convinces the other inmates to join forces against me. My buffs are perfect but Raxik is just too quick. Far too quick - retreating to summon Kitthix as a timestop activates and I've had enough once it concludes. Spellhold is lost to me.

I knew Havarian would change sides yet again but Raxik has sneaked past him to loot the remaining rooms before returning and agreeing to work with Saemon.

Keep it going.  I think the book gives the full version of spell turning - so useful to get the berserker horn for instance. It's the Matron Mother's ring that is minor.

Saemon Havarian has handed over both silver blades (I always seem to get a spare) to Raxik and departed as his ship is scuttled. I briefly lose sight of Raxik then find him inside a sahuagin cavern. He doesn't spend long there but his activity is enough to kill both their king and prince before making off with a couple of cloaks, some boots, a spear and part of a halberd.

Meanwhile I have forged an alliance with a drow matron mother.

Raxik gets a bumpy welcome to the underdark, a group of kuo-toa badly wounding him (well, down to 70hp) on a bridge and forcing him into a running battle. No doubt this was a wake-up call for him after demonstrating his protection from imprisonment technique against Alchra Diagott (zapped the screenshot but a GWW mace as he teleports in).

An Elder Orb gets two sets of dwarven thrower GWW's and Raxik picks up a spare eye stalk after killing a second beholder.

I've ordered a horde of beholders for my next confrontation with Raxik as he leaves the beholder lair, and add even more illithid as he refuses point blank to investigate that lair. Maybe I can get a demon knight or two as well, having seen one drain him before he realises. That's not enough to stop him contaminating the kuo-toa breeding pool and GWW'ing the prince though. The swirf village have 4 scrolls of lesser restoration and Raxik quickly pockets them before stoneshaping a balor.

Raxik gained confidence fighting a beholder and two gauth in the kuo-toa caves. I have to cancel the beholder order as he returns to that lair and uses the cloak of mirroring to empty it of enemies and loot.

He also killed three illithid in the beholder lair, gaining sufficient confidence to enter the illithid lair. A fire giant potion and two invulnerabilities are enough to clear that lair too, and I cancel another contract rather than waste the money.

With a drow war party out of the way Adalon transforms Raxir into Veldrin. Boz and his adventurers are next, then Phaere is rescued. I must find a way to warn the Matron Mother of the deception going on in her midst.

My new base is somewhat alfresco, the fresh air giving me ample oxygen to refine my plans. Raxik has finished with the underdark while house Jae'llet almost got the better of him. That'll teach him to try to fit too many add-on jobs to his main work.

His first job on the surface was to sell various items and store others. I had to laugh at his trip around the stores in search of ogre gauntlets but he located them at the Copper Coronet and re-purchased them to get Crom Faeyr forged. I'm not sure why he got the Gesen shortbow reconstructed and he couldn't find the 3rd part of the Equalizer sword (left it as thought it might be a maze trap) but the Wave halberd looks as though my salamander guards should consider a new career. Kruin the gith wild mage was also gifted the silver sword blade.

I expect Raxik will make a beeline for Bodhi and then try to confront me again.

I was half right. After being waylaid by Drizzt and co Raxik went straight for Bodhi and has killed her. I'm not sure how I feel about it.

Raxik then did some shopping before heading to Suldanessellar but left shortly afterwards. Ramilat had just mazed the efreeti and Ras and Raxik couldn't find his dwarven thrower. I watched as he checked numerous locations out (stores and containers at Watchers Keep, the Promenade, Copper Coronet, docks, temple district, Trademeet, Umar, underdark exit, underdark, illithid lair). No sign of the thrower anywhere.

We both took time-out while he prayed for help (took about an hour with Near Infinity and DLTCEP to realise the thrower has disappeared from the save game). Raxik is dumbfounded but I reckon something happened when Cromwell was forging items, when Bodhi was staked or when Elhan opened up the way to Suldanessellar.

I may be the epitomy of evil but I had to giggle like a girl Imoen at his predicament. The air was blue with language as he trudged back to the Copper Coronet and purchased Azuredge instead.

(Between Bruenor and Raxik it's a bad day for biodegradable dwarven hammers)

Edit & I even retrieved the missing part of the Equalizer on my search but then closed the game down without saving, so not got that either.

(final update)

Raxik has killed the glabrezu, a pit fiend, iron golem and the rakshasa before switching to Azuredge. Suneer has buffed and saunters towards the dwarf, collecting two axes in his mirror images. Raxik moves away and uses a GWW but Suneer casts a spell.

It's Maze! Woohoo! Raxik fears the worst but makes for the temple door. On his way he glugs a potion of magic resistance and takes out the sword of Balduran even though he's certain the stage for magic resistance has passed. He makes the door and breathes a sigh of relief as I pound my fists together in anger.

Then the maze closes in again. Raxik enters the temple and the maze closes in again. Then the Jon-cam goes black and I can turn my attention towards finding another subject for my experiments.

(Didn't think he got in reach but there you go)

Bummer Gate.

(I'm amazed by how often runs end in mazes. Save a time many moons ago when Alesia bounced a high level special snare off of Physical Mirror, I've never lost a character to that spell. Maybe I should post a little maze defense guide for soloists at some point?)

Anyhoo. It's a pity to see Raxik go. I'm sure your next character will catch up soon enough though.

EDIT: Just to be clear, I appreciate the challenges presented by maze and imprisonment- I definitely understand how they can be troublesome. It's just interesting to me that those spells seem to be the bugaboo of Grond0 and Gate's runs these days.

Indeed, Maze is something to watch out for always.

BTW I myself am running a no-reload Improved Anvil v6 modded game. Since the fights are fought almost 1/1 with my videos posted up, I won't bother you with details, will just state if my run has come to an end and at what point. Currently exiting the Asylum after beating Jon and his six Asylum Scouts. Found a way to optimize (and increase) the experience gained both pre- and in Spellhold to some small extent.

Thanks all. & yes I'm interested in protection from maze tips - although Raxik and his equipment weren't the issue, my fault as I had intended keeping my distance from Suneer but waited a fraction too long while throwing an axe.

Have been following your IA posts Saros. Keep the insanity up!

edit, & 1 last screenie I forgot to post. Raxik used the Dragonslayer sword to drop Niz after taking his cloud of nits for a walk - then exits the area to evade them entirely. In the shot they are just north of him, near his ugly mug.

Quick Note on Ashanti's Game:

Ashanti has defeated Spellhold Irenicus and is now en route to Fishville. 

I had wanted to arrange it so that the animals would finish off Jon. That worked out nicely: Cerebus and the lions ending Jon-Jon while Ashanti calls in reinforcements.

EDIT: Ashanti is not headed to Fishville after all it seems: Saemon was a no show due to a bug. The bummer here is that I had oddles and oddles of gear that I planned to sell in fishy-town in order to fund potion purchases in the Underdark. Now I'm stuck getting ripped off by the Duergar instead.

Blind man's Puk;
The next stop on our tour was the Mind suckers but I recharged the "Rod of Absorption" for Puk before entering their den. I play SCS which doesn't allow resting during the escape but I also have this dance memorised so I'll just show the screenshot.

There are two packs that give people trouble but SCS suffers from target fixation so;
1.    Edward sets two traps.
2.    Cassia opens the door and Trisha lobs in a cloud before Cassia closes the door again.
3.    The suckers teleport to Edward (every single time without fail) and promptly go splat.

The big brain is a little harder because of the golums but he (or is it, it?) can't move out of the cloud so the end was inevitable.

Taking a pause here;
I'm a bit stuck on how to win the tavern fights because I only have one arcane and Tashia (Sorceress) doesn't have a dualing spellbook…
1. 'Burning Hands', 'Chromatic Orb', 'Identify', 'Magic Missile', 'Spook'.
2. 'Blur', 'Detect Invisibility', 'Glitterdust', 'Mirror Image', 'Vocalise'.
3. 'Flame Arrow', 'Melf's Minute Meteors', 'Skull Trap', 'Slow'.
4. 'Greater Malison', 'Minor Sequencer', 'Otiluke's Resilient Sphere', 'Stoneskin'.
5. 'Breach' , 'Cone of Cold', 'Protection from Acid'.
6. 'Contingency', 'Summon Nishruu'.
7. 'Summon Hakeashar'.
She does have a solid combat cat figurine and a good bank account but I don't feel assured… any ideas? :wub:

p.s. if the suckers are easy then the eyes are just puerile;
1. Fight the two at the start then Puk pops a 'Sanctuary' and just collects all the loot… not worth a screenshot.


Bugs and such;
I noticed that 'Otiluke's Resilient Sphere' was not working when cast on myself… replaced it with my master copy and that has fixed the issue.

Debugging is an option. When non-gamebreaking bugs occur, part of me feels I should just playthrough- accepting whatever changes may arise. That approach appeals to me in this case, however, since Ashanti is an elf -and consequently doesn't enjoy a save bonus- I'm reluctant to pass up the Cloak of Protection +2. 

Decisions...

I guess I'm leaning towards debugging now. Anyhoo. I'll let you know what I decide.

Yes, this run is still going! Corey_Russell and Dogancing had a lot of time tonight and got a lot done:
* Saw Mook get assassinated, took vengeance on her killer
* Assisted the Temple with Sir Sarles - the quest is still ongoing, actually but we got the illithium, which was our real goal...
* Noticed we never dealt with Mencar - Loqi summoned 5 skeletons then the duo beat up Brennan Risling then Mencar. The enemy mages were attacking our skellies - then the duo finished off the mages - simple.
* Avenged the little boy killed by the thief and returned his teddy bear.
* Told a grieving paladin about an orphan girl in need of care
* Fought out way through some spiders to get to the mage so he could open the doors to Bodhi's lair
* Loqi used a haste potion and sanctuary to pick up the mace of disruption
* We finally have the components we need - we head to Cromwell's and forge the Improved Mace of Disruption - with this, Gum can get immunity to level drain - yay!
* Forgot to mention, at the same time we dealt with Neb to get the illithium, we also dealt with two shadow thief traitors.
* We attack Bodhi's lair - Gum in front, Loqi with his sling
* VERY LONG battle with Tanova - we just send a massive amount of summons her way - eventually she started to melee and that was our cue to attack and yes, she goes down
* Ambush lower level super easy - Loqi does turn undead - it can't destroy the vampires but it does make them run - Gum then meleed the warders. Once warders dead the team then gets rid of the vampires - no sweat
* We used Alesia_BH's move ™ to hug wall in trap room and slinged Lassal - he charged us to his death
* We put snares for Bodhi. Since Gum had fire giant strength potion active, decided to not rest. Summons were an air elmental and genie. Gum put up mirror image (ilbratha) and Loqi staked the last vampire to cause Bodhi to appear. Gum meleed, Loqi slinged and eventually Bodhi had enough and fled - success!
* The duo also dealt with the Unseeing Eye quest. This went pretty smoothly except for one portion - just after the bridge, Loqi battled the beholders with his shield of balduran, with pro undead scroll active - which got dispelled! And then a large group of shadows approached - some were shadow fiends! Loqi is NOT immune to hold attack yet - Loqi flees, with Gum trying to get the shadow fiends - Gum nearly dies, the beholders hitting her very hard - a RoR heal gets her back in shape - she has the enemies attention, Loqi attempted a turn undead - it destroyed ALL the shadows, even the shadow fiends! Loqi ordered Gum to retreat and Loqi got to the work on the beholders - success! Close one, glad we made it.
* Group of undead guarding gauntlets of dexterity, defeated by scroll of pro undead, blind eye priests defeated by silence of the Namuraa.
* After selling our massive amount loot and reporting success to the Temple, the duo decided to call it a night. Very soon we will be on our way to spellhold.

@Alesia. No sign of Saemon in ether part of Spellhold, or the tavern in Brynnlaw? If it helps this post has a couple of console commands.

CLUAConsole:CreateItem("MISC9G") gets the horn
CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("PPSAEM3") summons the right Saemon to the docks.

I think PPSAEM2 should put him back in Spellhold, might be better to do that to get the variables right. Or PPSAEM1 if he never showed up at the docks when you arrived.

@ussnorway. Do you need to to the battles? I assume the casters are improved by your mods too. Nishru and Hakeashar will do the job in vanilla if you can prevent enemy summons from killing them.

He made his first appearance in Spellhold: not the second. Ashanti is still stuck in Spellhold.

@Gate70, the fights are experience and rep only… SCS make these tough battles but yes I can skip them.

@ Alesia_BH, FYI The talk file with Saemon in spellhold is PPSAEM2.DLG (state 28/30 is the ok lets do your plan) and that sets > SetGlobal("TakeSaemonRoute","GLOBAL",1)

When he teleports you outside spellhold that;
1. Triggers Global("AsylumPlot","GLOBAL",56)
2. Sets SetGlobal("SaemonOut","GLOBAL",1)

On the island he;
SetGlobal("AsylumPlot","GLOBAL",60) which is the go to the tavern talk

He should now be at the tavern which is PPSAEM3.DLG;
Trigger is Global("AsylumPlot","GLOBAL",60)
And SetGlobal("TourMove","AR1600",8)

If you tell him to rack off then;
SetGlobal("AsylumPlot","GLOBAL",65)

Or say yes which starts the sail away quests;
SetGlobal("AsylumPlot","GLOBAL",66)
SetGlobal("StealShip","GLOBAL",1)
EscapeAreaMove("AR1600",2949,2504,8)
