@Corey: good to see Loqi & Gum still on the road. Keep them safe!
@ussnorway: even my *completionist* nature doesn't forced me to complete all tavern fights this time - imo the *output* doesn't worth the *efforts* with SCS installed.
@saros: safe travels to your crew! I've followed them in your special thread and that was both pleasant and enlightening.

you said that you don't want to pass up the Cloak of Protection +2 - what so special in it vs Ring of Protection +2 you already have?
It ultimately comes down to this: I'm a Claw girl- especially with elves.
Wearing the Ring of Protection +2 along with Gaxx and the Cloak of Displacement yields:
Spells: 2+2=4
Death: 2+2+2=6
Breath: 2+2+2=6
Wand: 2+2+2=6
Polymorph: 2+2=4
The Cloak of Protection +2 plus Gaxx and the Claw on the other hand gives.
Spell: 2+2+3=7
Death: 2+2-3=1
Breath: 2+2+3=7
Wand: 2+2+3=7
Polymorph: 2+2+3=7
The second setup has a disadvantage in the save versus death department, however, it's worth bearing in mind that Ashanti's base save v death is 3 whereas her base save v spells is 6. Additionally, the save v death hole can be plugged easily enough with the Lavender Ioun stone. I don't mind the HP max penalty.
Were Ashanti a halfling, the CoP +2 would be less important, but even then the IH on the Improved Cloak of Protection would be nice to have.
Best,
A.

Oh, I see. I forgot about a Claw (used it only in BG1 - the items transfer doesn't work legally from EasyTuTu - and only a few times) and that girls pays quite an attention to their nails...
One more thought - Lavender Ioun Stone is dropped by Gromnir (iirc) so that's a bit late for a comfort run imo - all SoA with save vs death penalty...?

It works but "Helm of Balduran" is on the same list i.e. you will only bring one of them over with you so if you want the hand then drop the hat.

The Lavender Ioun Stone is just one way of filling in the gap. There are others available earlier in the adventure.
Think of it this way: The Claw grants a 3 point bonus to save v spells while imposing an equivalent 3 point penalty to save v death. Since base saves v death are lower -and saves v death are comparatively rare- that's a good deal.
Best,
A.
Btw. As for importing the Claw, you are supposed to be able to carry it over. Some Tutu setups are bugged however.

@ussnorway: are you sure? IIRC the items for transfer should be in PC's inventory in final save and I always got the *default* Helm of Balduran and Mail of the Dead no matter what I had in PC's inventory (or equipped). And I'm not the only one here
Well yes I'm sure (I use the current tutu)... that post is 3 years old so there could have been patches.
http://www.forgotten...miscellany.htm
The list is; "Helm of Balduran", "Claw of Kazgaroth", "Horn of Kazgaroth", "Ring of the Princes" & "Koveras' Ring of Protection +1"… but you only get one and they are in order i.e. if you want the "Horn of Kazgaroth" then you can't have "Helm of Balduran" or "Claw of Kazgaroth" in your inventory because they are higher on the list and will take the slot that you need for the horn.
The only one I haven't used in bg2 is the "Ring of Princes".
You will always get one item and the "Helm of Balduran" is the default item so if you Import a save with none of these items or start a new game from bg2 then you get the helm.

Traveling with: Hanna (Undead Hunter), Misty (Cavalier), Joshua (Undead Hunter), Forrest (Paladin), Paja (Inquisitor)
Russell III has defeated Sarevok (barely) - see this link for character sheets. Note that my name actually is Russell III now - shadowkeeper succeeded in changing my name in BG 2.
A journal entry:
When my party left Baldur's Gate, my friends and I got jumped and captured by a mage, who I later learned is named Irenicus. Some girl named Imoen freed me - I vaguely recall her from Candlekeep, but sent her on her way. I freed my friends and we battled our way out of the dungeon. While there many enemies, none particularly strong and we got out A-okay.
Once out of the dungeon, we witnessed a battle of thieves vs.Irenicus - Irenicus won easily. That girl Imoen threw some magic missiles at Irenicus, Irenicus replied in kind and then some wizards captured them both. I suppose we should try to free Imoen, since she did free us...
We met Galen Bayle who said he would help us find Imoen, for a big price...going be a while until then. I wanted Ribald's +2 Halberd but was a bit short...so we did some graveyard battles and then could afford it. We then solved the circus problem - extremely easy with True Sight.
We got some ambushes on the way - Suna Sune tried to capture us, but they were utterly destroyed. Reinfeld was being attacked by some unknowns, who also were easily defeated. We returned Reinfeld to his friends.
There was a heavily armored party in the Dulasar Inn - their armor would be perfect for a group of paladins (at least 2 full plates). But Corey_Russell has never attempted Captain Dennis so early before. I used every resource I had - haste, strength potions, and also obtained the berserker horn before the battle. We still didnt have much in the way buffs, and I was pretty sure we would have to raise a couple of friends, but I believed in my team.
My weapons for this fight - Hanna, bastard sword +1 - Misty, long sword +1, Joshua, Sword of Chaos (+2 two hand sword) - Russell III, halberd +2 - Forrest - composite long bow, +1 arrows - Paja, sling, +1 bullets
So after buffing we battle Captain Dennis, and it was a wild free for all. The mage didn't last long thanks to true sight, but their druid was really hurting us, as well as Captain Dennis. Misty and Hanna ended up dieing, but the rest of my friends gave us victory - in the loot were THREE (!) full plates, as well as a boomerang dagger for Misty - Misty no longer needs a stack of daggers for when she needs to range attack.
While we were here, we dealt with the man in red - boots of avoidance for Paja.

Traveling with Hanna (Undead Hunter), Misty (Cavalier), Joshua (Undead Hunter), Forrest (Paladin), Paja (Inquisitor)
Journal Update - by Joshua
We had investigated the problems at Umar Hills. We were doing excellent vs. the undead there. Things changed when we met a shadow dragon. Russell III asked what if this thing attacked Immesvale? The town would be destroyed. Shall we really pass by the town, leaving the town at the dragon's mercy? No one had a reply to that, so Hanna tanked with the Ilbratha. She tanked really good and for a long time, but the ranged paladins weren't getting the job done. As a result, my mother Paja, Forrest's girlfriend Misty, and my father Russell III, were all permanently killed. Once my father died, we knew the quest to get Imoen was hopeless and we fled. I don't know what Hanna and I will do without our parents - we will miss them.

(Note to those of you with excellent memory - yes, my all melee groups have lost to the dragon before. This is a role-playing thing though - I can't let a group of paladins pass this evil creature by. If I will come to the dragon again, will try melee next time, as our melee is much better than our ranged in BG 2.)

Sorry to hear that Thaxy's claimed another victim. Were you all fully potioned up for the assault?
No. We just weren't doing enough damage. Dragon's AC too much perhaps. I did try a dispel magic, but it still wasn't effective. So far, my only 100% way to taking Thaxxy down is using two lightning wands on different characters, at least doing it early. I will just have to be patient in the future. Very ironically, this would have been EASY to solo with Hanna or Joshua since they are immune to level drain, but party can't seperate or I would have done that.
Besides I used all my potions to get Captain Dennis' 3 full plates.

Our intrepid beastmaster is now prepping for the SoA endgame.

I'll provide some catch-up coverage soon.

Ashanti's return to the De'Arnise keep was not her finest moment. More precisely, it was not Moondog's finest moment. A touch of "cupio" was all it took to send Moondog into a tailspin- leading to a downward spiral in Ashanti's reputation. Had Ashanti not already been a hero, she'd be fallen now.
The quest started off well enough. Seeking to practice their troll slaying technique, the dynamic duo took on the dining hall brigade. With Moondog absorbing blow after blow -the Girdle of Piercing warding off attacks- and Blackblood gamely finishing, the pair did well: they looked like pros.

Then it was time for amateur night.
Accompanied by three black bears, Ashanti confidently strode forth and surveyed her oponents.

After counting two giant trolls, three spirit trolls, one spectral troll, two yuan ti mages, and one umber hulk elder- along with an ornery Torgal- Ashanti had but one question: "Is that the door? Because I think I'll be leaving now..."

Yes: our bestmaster lost her nerve. And I can't say I blame her: there was a lot of ugly in that hall. Short of invisibility charges and failing to find shadows while pursued by hasted foes, she was forced to make a mad dash- a dash that only made her foes madder: they pursued her upstairs.
Deciding that she'd have to make a stand, Ashanti parked Cerebus in the doorway and went to work on the isolated umber hulk elder- planning to later dart her remaining foes from behind the stalwart Cerebus.

A clever rouse. But the yuan-ti mages would have none of it. And all it took was a little enchantment for them to have their way. A confused Cerebus abandoned his critical postion and then mistook Lady Delcia for a troll. Who could blame him? And who could blame Ashanti for Cerebus's mistake? All of Amn as it turns out...

Forced to dig in her heels and fight, Ashanti layered in some potion buffs and began whittling away at the trolls while the yuan-ti mages looked on. A potion of defense combined with the Girdle of Piercing and the Shield of Harmony kept ker safe from most attacks. The Reflex was kept at the ready and brought to bear with each "facio."

After some gruelling melee, only the yuan-ti mages remained. They were finished at range with the aid of some valiant cave bears.

The battle had been won. Or so it seemed. But surveying the carnage, Ashanti noticed that one corpse was missing: Torgal's. He had inexplicably-decided to stay downstairs while his compartiots pursued Ashanti up. Alone, he was no match: Ashanti prevailed with ease.

(So much for not seperating Torgal, huh? This time is it was an accident though.)
I'll post on the Planar Prison and Planar Sphere quests soon- followed by Spellhold and the Underdark.
Best,
A.

After completing his adventures in BG1 Theo found himself in a dungeon. Use of traps, Bhaal horror, stealth and shooting helped make progress through that generally untroubled. I didn't have much hope of killing Ulvaryl, but she surprisingly stuck around too long after being badly damaged by a firebreath potion and Theo managed to finish her off.
The only real problem in the dungeon was when I was thinking of something else and walked straight over the trap that killed one of the Wrecking Crew recently. Fortunately Theo must have walked over the narrower part of the trap and only triggered it once, not twice. Still, it must be a toss-up whether Theo eventually dies from imprisonment/maze or a trap!
Here's his record on exit from the dungeon. His stats were originally a natural die roll, though they've now been enhanced by the 8 BG1 tomes.

stats (cont from BG1):
Theo, swashbuckler L11, 60 HPs, kills 244

Loqi - gnomish Fighter/Cleric (protagonist)
Gum - Human Berserker 7 > thief 14 (dual)
Bait - permanently deceased
Loqi and Gum continue to make progress. They tried to give their alloy to Sir Sarles, but he refused to use it. The church was happy with it though, so not all was lost...Loqi then bought whatever scrolls/items they would need from the Temple of Lathander - Loqi went outside and then Gum was caught stealing - it made the Lathandarites hostile, including the temple guards outside. Dogdancing said why I didn't tell her that would happen - it's quite simple, I never rob from the Temple myself, so this never happens. The duo run for their lives. A spell comes toward Loqi, but he saves (his save vs. spells is 3). Loqi uses the only invis potion they have to wait for Gum, then they split.
We have a ton of gold, so decided to use it for something productive. Namely, we went to the potion merchant in the Druid Grove and bought 10 invis potions and 5 haste potions - they could come in handy.
Next up, we went to Firkraag's area. We were framed here, but Warren Windspear cleared our name. We attacked Firkraag's Lair, the hobgoblins were destroyed. We got the fire resistance ring, could come in handy. After further thought, the duo decided the fire resistance gear (King Stromm III's loot) could come in handy, and pressed into the lair. Golems were defeated by the crimson dart and Rhynn's Staff. For the mass of undead, Loqi stayed behind a closed door, though not before casting protection from undead on Gum. Gum then attacked the undead. It was a frustrating experience, even with her haste boots, the vampires were running everywhere, but Gum eventually killed them all.
For Samia the duo took no chances. Snares and 5 summons were prepared for her, as well as important buffs on Loqi. Loqi then triggered the encounter right there (next the undead area). Samia's group ignored Loqi and Gum and attacked our summons. The duo replaced summons as they died, and as such never came under attack themselves - success!
Next up the Djinns. Unfortunately the team could only get Gum's fire resistance to 90% - bummer, guess it will have to do. It did in fact just fine, as Gum defeated the Genies and the Fell Ghast just fine. Loqi and his summons defeated the Director Beholder while Gum was doing that. At last the mask of King Stromm III is formed and also giving Gum a level (Loqi gained two levels earlier in the lair - Loqi is only two levels away from Skeletal Warriors).
The duo defeats the last enemy in the way, and now the dragonslayer sword and shield are ours. The sword will work well for Gum whenever she needs fear resistance, and Loqi immediately equipped the shield for some resistances. It was getting pretty late (11:36 PM), so the duo immediately saved here. The duo plans to go to Brynnlaw next session.

Ok. I have a couple free hours now. The plan is to use them to get Ashanti's post caught up with her progress. Let's see how far I get.
Following her adventure in the De'Arnise Keep, Ashanti made a bee line to the nearest Temple of Illmater and forked over most of her gold- hoping to undo some of the reputation damage done by Cerebus's fuzzy headed mishap. Now poor and feeling less that heroic, Ashanti sighed, went to the Flagon's for a yak butter tea, and then decided to beat some punks to a bloody pulp. Draug Fea and his cronies were Ashanti's unwilling victims.
Ashanti prepped for battle by summoning a crew of animal: a cave bear, two winter wolves, and a pair of lions. She then buffed with Armor of Faith, DUHM, and RoAC II.

Our dart tossing beastmaster and her cave bear looked decidedly over-matched as her foes' pre-buffs fired. But look: she has already shutdown one of the casters...

And once she fell back, her opponents learned that she had more support than it seemed. The odds are looking better now.

But Gaius noticed the improvement in Ashanti's prospects and he wasn't happy about it: a chain lightning soon wiped out all but Cerebus. Ashanti didn't let that stop her from finishing off Zorl, however.

With the dwarves intent on finishing Cerebus, Ashanti found she had just enough space to bring more friends into the mix.

Ashanti stood her ground for as long as she could. But with cave bear battling a mordy, and Gaius dropping wiltings in support of the dwarves, it was time for Ashanti to equip the Crimson Dart and fall back.

Slowly but surely those itsy-bitsy stings added up.

And once there was just one dwarf left, Ashanti felt ready to stand her ground again.

Gaius was the last to fall- though not before doing serious damage with his acid arrows: Ashanti remains vulnerable to MAA and MMM.

The Planar Sphere is next.
Best,
A.

That's right, it's supposed to be Garren Windspear isn't? Hmm well, you know when I play multi-player, we click really fast through the dialog to get things going, and I don't even see 20% of the dialog, since I know what to do from choices alone. Thus, his name problem...
@Alesia_BH: I found it interesting that Gauis was the last to die in your Tarnor the Hatchetman fight. My all paladins group recently battled Tarnor's (before Umar Hills obviously) group, and even though we tried inquisitor dispel magic, true sight, and tried to concentrate fire it was useless. We ended up ignoring him, killing the rest and he was the last to die. Two pallies died that fight (though not chunked). He sure has some serious defensive buffs of some kind...

That's often the case in my SCS party fights- save the times when I allow ambush assasinations. The kill order is usually druids/clerics->warriors->mages->thieves. Thieves end up being last because of their invisibility potions. Mages second to last because of their abjuration school weapons defenses.
In vanilla, I used to take mages down first. I often find that impractical in SCS with full prebuff installs, however.
