Aran Linvail stares at the series of puncture marks and suggests an easier job first. Axrik is in a rush and runs headlong into an ambush, and out of it before they can dispel his oil of speed.

He runs into the next ambush...

Comedy moment: I have falledn into the habit of not moving the mouse to scroll but pressing the "1" key to centre the screen on CHARNAME so I can continue clicking the mouse at an outer edge. With an oil of speed this means a rapid series of 1 / leftclick / 1 / leftclick / 1 /leftclick, maybe 2 pairs a second when hasted. Unfortunately this meant I replied to a dialogue with option 1 before it even presented.

& so it was that Axrik handed over 11905gp to a mugger :(

Grond0 - I believe we determined that in vanilla boots of speed also grants an extra 1/2 attack - though in your case, perhaps the fixpack "fixes" that. If my initial statement is true, she should overtake you in kills with Kundane.
@Gate70 - perhaps your "shortcut" has severe drawbacks, as you found out...thanks for sharing though...

Corthief II the Half-Elf Assassin entering BG 2/ToB no-reload challenge (Trilogy)

Corthief II barely defeated Sarevok - he also managed to escape Chateau Irenicus, with Jaheira's, Minsc's, and Yoshimo's help. Imoen got herself captured. I haven't got the party I intend to use quite yet. We just watched Imoen get captured by some cloaked figures. Guess we'll have to rescue her, least I can do for her help in bringing Sarevok to justice.

Note the CON penalty is due to the Claw of Kazgarath.

There's no APR bonus in our installation, so the advantage is just in terms of getting to enemies more quickly.

Corthief II the half-elf assassin update
Traveling with: Korgan, Yoshimo, Minsc, Viconia, Jan

Corthief II has made some good progress so far. Corthief II had Yoshimo dual to a fighter - this allows Corey Russell to build Yoshimo as fighter from the ground up, which I have really enjoyed doing lately. It's not too much a problem, being a thief myself.

* Circus problem solved - nothing special really except ignore the werewolves
* Korgan's personal quest achieved. I personally find Korgan's quest the most difficult by far to do early, which is a reason I often don't recruit him, though I like his class and character. However, he'd be a real asset to this particular group so I gave it a shot. We had VERY few heal potions for this, so were battered without being able to heal. For the initial undead ambush, Jan helped with chaos, but still touch and go. For the next big group, which included wights (level drain I think) and shadow fiends, Jan threw a fireball which hit the whole lot and our own people too - but was worth it, as the 2 surviving shadows were near death and the fighters didn't get level drained. Korgan of course used enrage to be immune to that. After finally getting to the last room, Korgan suggested leaving here and go to Pimilco's - we were glad to leave this place! Here's how battered we are:
Posted Image
* Suna Sune - somewhat chaotic, but nevertheless the party handled it well. Corthief' II's poisoned arrows helped nullify the mage here.
* Remfeld - almost exactly same as Suna Sune, except Jan got a chaos off, which was devastating in this case.
* Graveyard - the team did OK here - the gold we got from this place allowed us to get a potion bag and 10 extra healing potions from Watcher's Keep merchant - finally we are good to go.
* Hendak freed - team took a massive beating, it wasn't well planned but wanted to make the most of the group haste - almost every was getting hit a lot, so a lot of re-positioning - we purposely didn't heal with potions to conserve for when we did the undead for Korgan. But worked out in the end.

Team is resting outside the grounds of Watcher's Keep - D'arnise Keep probably our first target, though we will see if we can pick up a martial staff first (for the iron golem).

Doppel {2} - dwarf kensai (second and final update)

Annoyingly, Doppel came to grief just when he had overcome all the early challenges and looked set for a good run.

He got the green ioun stone and saw off all the Cowled Wizards (the latest version of the Fix Pack changes the RoAC so that improved invisibility can be cast on anyone.  That means it is now (rather unfairly) treated as a spell by the Cowled Wizards.  Rather than pay for a license Doppel used the RoAC to dodge all the groups that appear without combat).

Did the Fallen Paladins and kidnappers and retrieved the Ring of Gaxx. While the scroll of undead protection was still active went to the Southern dungeons and used it to kill all the undead there. I thought I would also loot the tomb and had finished doing that and was leaving when I died - which was a bit of a shock to the systemPosted Image

I had 40 odd HPs at the time and thought a few more damage wouldn't matter (as Doppel was now wearing Gaxx).  I had remembered the trap at the end (near Corey's screenshot above) was a repeating one, but for some reason had it in my head it was a spike trap like the minor damage ones underneath Candlekeep.  Loading the autosave I found it was actually a flame strike.  It still shouldn't normally have had a chance of killing Doppel, but I hadn't yet repaired the drain from the trap on Kangaxx's door.  Level drain does not set saves to the values they should really be for that character, but to a generic save for that level, which means it ignores any bonuses from protective equipment you have (like the Claw and Gaxx) in addition to resetting the level.  That meant he could fail his saving throw - and obviously did.

Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 25(4) - (update 5)
Tensor, human blade (Grond0) & Roche, human blade (Gate70)

Pre-dating Doppel's demise there was a bit more progress last night from the duet.

They started off at the de'Arnise Hold.  Normally we do this fairly early on in runs as it is one of the easier areas.  This time, at high levels, the trolls were brushed aside easily - even a group of spirit trolls going down hard under Roche's assault, while Tensor picked the remains off with MMM.  For the first time Tensor used Tenser, but was disappointed by the transformation.  It's fair enough not to allow spell casting, but all his special abilities were unusable as well, which seems illogical and isn't going to encourage repeated use of that spell.  Torgal and his giant troll guards were attacked all together, though with some skeleton warrior support.

On to the Planar Sphere, which again was pretty smooth.  The one glitch was when Roche was attacking Kayardi, Mogadish and Entu - they managed to bypass his spell defences with a confusion.  However, he had already done significant damage to the opposition and Tensor was able to quickly finish them off.

Stats (cont. from BG1):
Tensor, blade L21, 86 (12 from familiar) HPs, 530 kills
Roche, blade L21, 94 (8 from ioun stone) HPs, 518 kills, 2 deaths
Roche continues to close the gap.  His acquisition of the FoA meant fewer freebie trolls for Tensor, though her use of MMMs did help her to keep ahead a bit longer.

Sorry to hear of Doppel's demise, Grond0. Picenon, by the way, always kept a number of scrolls of restoration on him to fix level drains pronto. Don't know if that would have been viable for Doppel, though.

He could have used a scroll yes - he was carrying one. I didn't immediately use one with the idea that it would be more efficient to use later if he got drained again (I wasn't sure exactly how long his scroll of undead protection would last) and then it didn't seem an issue after all the enemies were dead.

Another trap Grond0. I know your no potions approach seems ingrained but moving around while injured isn't a great idea when no-reloading, particularly in areas with traps. Interesting comment about the level drains too, thought they just dropped by the appropriate number of levels so ugh.

Aran Linvail asks about the rumours. Two traitors killed by a rat and their guild contact torn apart by a troll. Axrik shrugs his broad shoulders and Aran stares intently as the cloak of the sewers ripples with magic from this slight movement.

Level 13. Save against poison of -4 (others are wand -2, petrify 4, breath -4, spells 1). Axrik burnishes Azuredge with his wiry beard-hair and backpacks it for a few minutes. The sword of flame has a job to do first.

Pai'Na is quickly killed and Axrik holds back on the potion of firebreath. The many spiders cut through his mirror images despite improved invisibility and he takes 11 hits before the battle is over. The potion is re-bagged and Axrik grabs the black spider figurine and an ioun stone before moving on.

After killing four guardians the entrance to the vampire lair is open. Axrik uses a PfU scroll and kills everything that moves including Tanova but has to rest before Lassal will acknowledge him (oops). Axrix decides to go get the mace of disruption cleaned up but the earlier mugging has left him with financial hardship so there might be a slight detour required.

Kind of like my MP runs, I breeze through dialog fast, so don't even see who I'm talking to usually, hence the things you are talking about - HOWEVER, I always read the choices carefully, to make sure I don't give all my gold to a bandit like you and Grond0 have, and to date I haven't done it yet due to this care.

Thanks for the good luck though. I'm a little light on the arcane, but I like melee anyways.

Jan has enough arcane clout to back up a party, what's the intention if you get Imoen back - straight swap for the ready-made gap or a bigger party switch. & Corthief can always hoard scrolls for UAI?

Just the straight switch for Yoshimo. Minsc is currently #3 position, he may have to take #2. Another option is that with the CON belt from Gaal, and the STR belt from Ribald, Viconia would be able to tank as well. I will be hoarding scrolls, but those will be for Imoen to memorize. Aren't enough scroll cases in SoA, I never have enough when I intend to use Imoen.

Axrik has used the mace of disruption +1 to flatten a pair of stone golems then survived a disintegrate as he summoned an efreeti to replace crispy Kitthix. Rayic Gethras was cut down from behind, the flame sword licking through two sets of stoneskins before a solid blow kills him.

Axrik has 7561gp, so gets the mace of disruption upgraded and heads straight back to the vampire nest. No buffs for Lassal so Bodhi can get them all (and just manage to keep the efreeti alive, he had no spells after drains).

Here's a weird and wonderful postscript to our last MP session demonstrating again the oddities of positioning that MP throws up.

In the engine room of the planar sphere one of the adamantite golems appears in different positions on our two computers.  Despite being shown elsewhere on Gate70's computer (and attackable by Roche there) the big guy thinks he's elsewhere and hence does not attack Roche backPosted Image.  The stone golems also believe that they're blocked in and stay in place.

Corthief II the half-elf level 12 assassin update
Traveling with: Yoshimo, Korgan, (Minsc), Viconia, Jan

Corthief II got a lot done. Despite traveling at night many times, still not a single vampire ambush, which has been a bit odd.

* D'Arnise Keep saved from the trolls. We didn't have any +3 weapons when we dealt with the golems, so Jan defeated the Iron golem with polymorph self > Flind. Used the dog meat to bypass the umberhulks.
* Lilacor Quest completed for Minsc - no issues of any kind
* Battles at slaver moored ship - Jan's chaos is too much for them. Jan even buffed to the max then did greater malison and chaos on the slaver mages - it was devastating as you can see below. Jan got held in response, however Viconia got him out of trouble with a remove paralysis (I actually remembered I have it memorized! I often forget to use it, despite being memorized). Otherwise, very smooth.
Posted Image
* Lots of ambushes but with Jan's chaos and Cothief II's poisoned arrows, of little consequence.
* Was trying to decide what to do, but eventually decided to do the Umar HIlls quest to get rid of our mass of magical ammo from D'Arnise Keep and get the dragonbane sling for Viconia. However, Yoshimo needs hold defense so we went to Trademeet. Right when we arrived, Korgan reminded us we were supposed to look for Valygar. Change of plans then leave Trademeet and head for Immesvale.

We find Valygar and say we are going to turn him in to the Wizards. This created a problem though - Minsc rebelled against my leadership and left the party! Doh!
Posted Image
I didn't have the heart to kill him - so Viconia doomed Minsc and held him, Valygar killed and body  collected and we headed to Government District to turn Valygar in. I wanted a bit more reward, and Tolgerias just left - oops. Fortunately Korgan didn't complain - so we opened the Planar Sphere instead, but without going in.

Finally we head for Trademeet to get the Shield of Harmony for Yoshimo. Jan pickpockets the genie lamp, then we do protection from petrification on entire party, a few misc buffs and attack - success!

Last tasks of the session was to get the Ilbratha and Shield of the Lost for Korgan. Ended session here, Umar Temple being next target (and leaving the shadow dragon alone...)

Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 25(4) - (update 6)
Tensor, human blade (Grond0) & Roche, human blade (Gate70)

Before progressing with the Unseeing Eye the duet went in search of a couple of spells - improved haste and spell immunity.  After a few failures those were eventually acquired and the duet made their way down below the Temple sewers.  The first major obstacle was the group of beholders just beyond the broken bridge.  Roche put down a cloudkill there, but got targeted by the beholders and, despite being well beyond their sight range (they were on the other side of the bridge) as he ran back, succumbed to a death ray.

Deciding they needed something more magic resistant to take the lead the duet produced a skeleton warrior each and they cleared the way.  Roche was so impressed with them that he produced 4 of them to cruise through the main beholder area (1 via contingency), 2 under improved haste.  The only worrying moment before the Eye was closed was when the blind priests used true seeing, briefly making the duet targets.

Gaal and his guards were brushed aside pretty contemptuously to finish the session.  The only significant thing left to do now in Athkatla is the Twisted Rune.

Stats (cont. from BG1):
Tensor, blade L22, 88 (12 from familiar) HPs, 548 kills
Roche, blade L22, 96 (8 from ioun stone) HPs, 557 kills, 3 deaths
Roche went storming into the kills lead in that session.  That was mainly the result of his army of skeleton warriors, but he also took a bit of advantage of a MP glitch allowing him to use improved haste and offensive spin at the same time.

Axrik has picked up Belm, and sold various other items to purchase the Dwarven Thrower.

Time for a potion and scroll hunt (to be edited shortly).

5 stores and a temple in Trademeet.
1 store in the Druid Grove.
3 merchants at Umar.
3 stores, 1 temple and 1 black market thieves in the slums. A potion of absorbtion from Arledrian.
Sister Garlena at Watchers Keep.
9 stores, Jayes and 1 temple at the Promenade. 2 PfM from Ribald.
1 store, 1 temple, Fovem, Ikert and 1 Shadow Thief at the Docks.
1 temple, 2 merchants, Mrs Cragmoon and Cutpurse at the Bridge District.
3 temples and Roger at the Temple District. 3 Absorbtion & 3 Magic Protection from Roger.

Items still to pick up before the trip: Sword of Balduran, Ras. Possibly potions of Defence / Invulnerability / Magic Shielding for armour / saves.

Appendum. Puchased 3 each of the above potions. Skint so borrowed some cash off Tarnor the Hatchetman. Enough to buy the Sword of Balduran then Rejiek Hidesman coughed up almost enough for Ras. Axrik pawns the Rod of Terror and Namarra to complete the purchase.

After reviewing his preparations a brief return to the de'Arnise Keep may be in order (shield amulet).

Looking good Gate! I'm liking Axrik's chances.

Best,

A.

Btw. Ashanti is still alive and well. She has defeated Illasera and Gromnir and is now en route to Nyalee bearing hearts.

Ashanti will likely fight Yaga soon, but at the moment I'm too busy working through the Beastmaster TV series season 1. (Blame for this falls squarely on Grondo's shoulders.)

FYI: The television series isn't nearly as bad as the movies, but it's still pretty awful. The original book by Andre Norton is a good read though.

Axrik arrives in Brynnlaw and quickly kills three vampires, some pirates, an assassin, a pimp, the brothel guards and a madam. Perth is adept at catching the dwarven thrower each of three times and Axric gleefully turns a page of a magical book only to immediately reach the final page. Fine, we'll try to complete the game without spell turning...

n.b. Axrik has widened his horizons (installed widescreen mod and trying 1280x1024 on secondary monitor instead of 1024x768 on laptop). Good job he isn't casting skulltrap / fireball and having to recalibrate all his distances, leave that to the bards...

Final part of the night for Axrik, starting by losing his Bhaalspawn abilities and picking up a bag of holding. The summoning pulpit is completed (forgot to collect the rewards, need to go back) before six umber hulks are meleed and a group of undead killed. Axrik adds another dwarven kensai moment of revenge on the lich with his dwarven thrower, in the name of Kaxir (he was the progenitor of my dwarven kensai clan, multiplayer no reload attempt 2).
