 Corthief II the half-elf Assassin - Final Update (I think)

Well, Bhaal was unkillable, but I don't know what I did wrong. If this is by design then this is the final update for Corthief II.

What happened:
1) I lost 1 CON
2) I talked to Imoen, she said to lure Bhaal to her
3) I went outside and backstabbed Bhaal to get his attention, and he followed me to Imoen
4) 1 snare hit Bhaal, Kithix attacked and webbed, I attack
5) Bhaal, still alive. I am a thief not a fighter so I go invis via potion (still within Imoen's sight) and backab. Once backstab was for 57 damage and he was near death before the backstab. He still alive. I even talked to Imoen and she said yes now he was in my sight and she will add her will to mine.
6) I tried about 15 heal potions and haste potion - despite hundreds of damage, Bhaal wouldn't die. So since he wouldn't die, I let him kill me, If I can't kill him with my Sword of Roses then nothing I can do will get him.

I think Imoen is supposed to have her talk spontaneously when Bhaal gets close enough to her. Is it possible that you going to talk to her produced the conversation before Bhaal actually got close enough?

I didn't trigger the 2nd talk until the battle was well under way (because Bhaal wasn't dying). The 1st talk she walked up to me and did her talk, I didn't initiate.

Did you have the conversation outside with Bhaal or did the backstab arrive first, i.e. did you have the 4 options where one is "catch me if you can"?

A greater werewyvern is Runehammered while the lesser earth elementals are Fury'd (staff of earth locked away in Ust Natha). Xarik spelunks through a nearby pool to GWWWave at five frost salamanders (just the one GWW) then switches to Runehammer/Crom two bone fiends. Pool2 sees a horde of kuo-toa with ineffective weapons, six greater water elementals and one olhydra (dwarven throwered). Xarik had to retreat briefly as he was down to 40hp with 1 elemental left, returning under invisibilty to apply a GWW.

A PP-rest later he tries another tunnel, declining to kill a green dragon and instead returning to try the fourth. The various floating skulls are foiled by the cloak of mirroring and Xarik also sub-contracts some work out to Bondari for 100gp. After Bondari learns his lesson Xarik heads back to Amkethran.

Spot the "Power Pantaloon Battle Armour" difference. Kensai friendly (both armour and ranged weapons) B)

Gate70 - I backstabbed then the convo option popped up and I said "Catch me if you can" and ran back to Imoen.

It sounds like it is possible then that Bhaal didn't get close enough to properly enter Imoen's influence.

That can't be it - any closer, Bhaal and I would be hugging Imoen. I was close as I could get to her.

A frost salamander seems a suitable target to test the Big Metal Rod (what's that: you expected Sarevok to be a guinea pig? Maybe later)
Posted Image

Xarik is unimpressed, bagging it and retrieving the Wave halberd instead. After killing the salamander he idly waits until he has mostly healed then decides to fight the salamanders unbuffed to keep himself fresh for Abazigal. To say he is slow with the Wave is an understatement, some salamanders getting 3 hits in before he can take aim. One is throwered as Abazigal is too close for comfort but the rest are killed with 85hp remaining.

Xarik heals to 50% health and runs Abazigal around until various hardiness, whirlwind and kai abilities are wasted. This could be a bit dull so he livens things up by adding the odd dwarven thrower in. Big blue is immune but at least Xarik has found this out early on. Same for K'logarath (I've bagged a bundle of toys) although this has a saving throw for knockback so Xarik tries a few more. After a while Abazigal takes some damage and Xarik checks both the axe and hammer are now effective.

Abazigal has had enough after about 20-30 hammer hits and transforms into a blue dragon. "I'm the daddy" he roars until Xarik tosses a green head in his direction and says "not any more fugly" and reads a protection from magic scroll.

Abazigal casts a host of spells, his improved haste being particularly worrying and Xarik is caught on the first circuit. It's a bad bite but the dwarf is off before a wing buffet can be added. He could play a dangerous game of cat and mouse but the hidey-hole is too easy an option. In he goes, checking that the scroll is working against all attacks. A WWThrower is vaguely effective but the improved attack of GWWThrower is too much, and hardly any are required.

OK - I just thought from your screenshot that perhaps Bhaal hadn't got right up to the stairs and I tend to find that's the trigger for Imoen to talk.

Sounds like it was probably a bug then.

Wrecking Crew VIII (update 3)

It's been a while since I played this game, so I had to check back to confirm that the Crew are playing without any restrictions.

Explored the graveyard.  Pai'Na was beaten up while most of the spiders died in Boss' divine wrath Bhaal power.  Went on to the Southern Tombs where Azuredge did most of the hard work, although it couldn't prevent Hammer being drained 3 levels by a hit from the vampyre.

Travelling to Trademeet the Crew encountered an orog ambush.  That reminded me again of the difficulty of dealing with SCS mages, as it took a while to beat down just one of them there.  On arrival in the town, Hammer was restored before attacking the genies - made a mistake there by attacking the Khan first (Taquee disappeared after that, taking the efreeti bottle with him).

At the Druid Grove there were a number of spirit trolls, which are a bit of a pain, but provided plenty of XP.  An Elder Earth Elemental created an earthquake that went on for some time after it died, but still didn't manage to kill anyone.  None of the druid groups caused much of a problem as the Crew pushed on to confront Faldorn with Cernd (leaving the rakshasa alone for now).

Back in Trademeet they did a bit of shopping and then cleared the tomb (not done the skinner murders yet so Tiris will have to wait).

Stats (cont from BG1):
Flail, fighter L9, 99 HPs (incl. 5 from Helm, -9 from Claw), 323 kills
Hammer, fighter L9, 107 HPs (incl. 9 from ioun stone), 303 kills
2-H, fighter L9, 99 HPs, 322 kills
Axe, fighter L9, 93 HPs, 249 kills, 1 death
Boss, fighter L9, 99 HPs, 382 kills
Halberd, fighter L9, 89 HPs, 271 kills, 1 death

I did a bunch of tests - trying to backstab, or snares or going invisble and Kithix webbing - but it ALWAYS worked. I think these test prove conclusively that whatever happened above was a bug, since I can't even recreate it.

Final update for Xarik.

He got to Sendai and thought he was fighting the penultimate one, but later realised it was the real deal. She teleported away and he had her at near death but her repeated de-buffs meant an AC of 1 plus using a ranged weapon allowed the skeleton warriors too much leeway and his 157hp evaporated first.

Screenshot here is after about 30 minutes and about a minute before the end. Sad thing is, was talking to Grond0 and didn't give a very good account of my problems but about 5 minutes into the post mortem he asked why I'd not tried protection from undead. Where's the dunce hat?

Another possibility if she doesn't have true sight running is to use an invis potion - sure it will take 8 hours for the skeletons to expire, but the invis lasts for 24 hours... I think I remember Alesia doing at least once for one of her characters...

Corthief II the half-elf level 17 assassin continues his adventure
Traveling with: Korgan, Mazzy, Viconia, Imoen, Jan

The team has successfully dealt with:
* Spellhold
* Shark-men City. I went insane I here, I meant to sell at the Temple merchant but to do something different I provoked the priestess and had to fight the entire city and lost the merchant.ooops. Otherwise went OK.
* Elementals defeated
* Mazzy and Korgan duoed the beholder lair. The key battle was of course against the Elder Orb. The team summoned a djinn and berserker and the team turned off AI and used their ranged weapons. Took a while, but the Orb never imprisoned anyone (think its spell got interrupted), and the team defeated the rest of the enemies in the lair without a problem.
* Drow parties mowed down.
* Demon defeated primarily with 7 snares, 3 ariel servants, 2 skeletal warriors, and group haste. I did CC and free action on Corthief II, just to be safe. Corthief couldn't even hurt this beast with his range weapons, but I didn't need his help.

 Corey_Russell/Dogdancing Multi-Player No-Reload
Loqi the gnomish fighter/cleric, controlled by CR
Gum the human berserker/thief controlled by Dog
Bait (deceased forever)

The duo had a little time. We tried to get to Firkraag and two Greater Wolfwere's were in our way. Even with 5 skeletal warriors and our ranged weapons, we couldn't even get them to injured. Loqi then tried his Deva and 3 ariel servants - yes they defeated the greater wolfweres, fortunately.

Lots of other weak enemies but no trouble with them. When we got to the bridge to Tazok, Dogdancing asked if there were any traps and Loqi didn't remember - well Gum did walk over one but didn't set it off - she de-trapped it. Conster was defeated with the aid of an ariel servant. We rested and prepped for the main event.

We did use fire resistance potions, 3 ariels servants, a deva and a skeletal warrior. Earlier Gum had laid 5 basic snares around Firkraag. Our summons did pretty well, one firebreath attack hurt Gum bad, but other than that was pretty smooth. Loqi did RoR heal on the Deva to keep the party tank alive (she appears immune to buffeting) and soon after Firkraag fell. We probably would have ignored him, however, his scales make great fire resistance armor we can use and fire resistance is always good for Yaga Shura's Temple down the road.

When we came back to Athkatla to sell, we ran into the Githyanki (Silver Sword) ambush. This was much more dangerous than Loqi suspected, and he nearly died. But Gum did RoR heal on him then he ran away with his haste boots and summoned 3 skeletal warriors. Gum ran back to him, then together they scoured Waukeen's Promenade looking for all the enemies - we did in fact find and kill them all.

After selling, it was pretty late so we saved here.

Agreed. Karix will be missed.

I'm thinking the problem wasn't the skeleton warriors so much as the ignoring of the skeleton warriors. I'm guessing that Karix could have punked the skellies if he put his mind to it. Letting them wail away while he had a ranged weapon equipped wasn't the best of moves, however.

I think I remember Alesia doing at least once for one of her characters...

That's possible. I do wait out summons from time to time. I don't recall having done so with skellies, but I can imagine situations where I might.

Best,

A.

Ok: Alora and the Amazonians. That's probably what Corey was thinking of.

(Btw. On the old forums my bounty hunter once took out a group of vampires by waiting until dawn.)

Yes that incident is what I was thinking of. Incidentally, Alesia, I couldn't see your screenshots in that link - it said "Look whose popular! Upgrade to Plus to increase your bandwidth.". Not sure how relevant this last statement is...

I'd already killed a fair few - Sendai just summons more. I didn't get to test whether this is infinite or a set number, might do that. I tried the big unit afterwards, cleared the room with that but still a couple of moments where attacks mounted up. I'd got to the point where I wasn't thinking rationally...never a good idea in no reload.

Good to see you back in action Corey, although I can't help wondering if the sahuagin city fight was due to the wrong dialogue option, what with you saying that never happened :)

& Alesias bandwidth will reset on whatever day she joined Photobucket, I nearly exceeded it last month. Another good reason to crop piccies and not store videos there.

Edit, & on the positive side at least he wasn't mazed despite efforts by Irenicus (2+) and Sendai (2).

Edit2, her summoning does seem to be excessive. 20+ spiders and 20+ warriors before I lost patience with the CTRL-Y'ing. She goes down quickly in melee, problem is she stands in a podium and if she teleports away she can more or less keep you in there by replacing critters as fast as you can kill them while de-buffing you. & she ignores invisibility, e.g. I went invisible and moved in, she cast malison > true sight when really it should be the other way round.

So I can see ways but nothing I'd swear by in no reload yet. Same for Draconis as the hit & run is tricky. May play around with each of those before the next incarnation.

I you recall the context of my statement that you are referring to, I said I never gave my MONEY away in a wrong dialog option to bandits/robbers, not that I never chose a wrong choice.

As for the Shark-men City dialogue - I DID choose the one I wanted at that moment, but I forgot my long term goal (sell to the merchant here) when I chose it.

It is good to be back in action. Corthief II and team is in the Illithid City at the moment.

Gate was on the mark here. The shots hosted in my old account will be viewable again fairly soon.

Not very. :P

It was just another example of a situation where survival was achieved through an unsually long wait.

(A lot of people thought that one was cool when it happened.)

Interesting. I don't recall seeing that behavior from her in vanilla- perhaps due to differences in tactics.

In my current install she summons planetars, devas, demons, and mordies, but the numbers are finite at least.

Same for Draconis as the hit & run is tricky. May play around with each of those before the next incarnation.

Does he cast haste in your install? That could complicate matters for a character without a dispel avenue of course.

In general, I think it's a good idea to collect the Amulet of Cheetah speed before hitting Abazigal's enclave. That may be doubly true of kensais.

Best,

A.

The Story of BlackStrider & The Motley Crue (Update #31. inner Saradush & Gromnir):

So... The Avatars are flesh & bone fresh & active again. We made all and every tasks in Saradush but that was some time ago so details are already faded from my memory. There were no issues, that for certain. The Gromnir fight on the other hand has ended just a moment ago and was pretty smooth. Karun the Black and another mage were immediately neutralized with Cloudkills from me and Alesia allowing us to deal with other enemies in safety. Krimlor, Grond and Corey all hit with WW on archer, Eler Had, Ramazith and Berena while Pot called for Planetar. Alesia finished an archer with her trusty darts, then Pot evaporated Eler Had and Ramazith with ADHW. Berena desperately  hit  Planetar with her dispelling spear (there were nothing to dispell...) and fell soon after. Gromnir was literaly shredded by Globe of Blades and Il-Khan Battle Mage fell in noxious gas not even managing to cast a single spell. Karun the Black was the one last standing but his Sphere of Chaos was ineffective vs Planetar (all others prudently stayed away from the area of effect) and as soon as his SI:D wore off he was quickly debuffed and killed:

I think we will visit Watcher's Keep next to finish first two levels at least.

Current state:

BlackStrider: Blade (27), 326 kills (Nizidramanii'yt);
Alesia The Curious: Mage (15)/Thief (18), 120 kills (Shade Lich); (1 death);
Grond The Pathfinder: Archer (20), 374 kills (Glabrezu); (1 death);
Krimlor the Dragonslayer: Fighter (15)/Cleric (16), 455 kills (Firkraag); (4 death);
Pot The Selfless: Mage (20), 94 kills (Shangalar); (4 death);
Corey Russell: Undead Hunter (20), 105 kills (Balor) (1 death).

(Cassia The Furious: Shapeshifter(14), 484 kills (Alchra Diagott); (4 death); Gone... )

to be continued...
