Further adventures of Astarta and party:

The party completed the last Drow tasks (yes, vanilla), and looted Matron Mother Ardulace's corpse. No Ring of Spell Turning, which doesn't surprise me, since Minor Spell Turning has been omitted from the game.

BTW, forgot to mention that Astarta got a scroll of Soul Armor from the Kuo-Toan prince. This 5-th level spell grants undispellable AC set to 0 for 3 turns. Totally useless, since Astarta's robe grants base AC of -1. In fact, I think this spell is totally useless anyhow.

Killed as many drow as the party could. Looted as many adamantite items as possible. Returned eggs to Adalon. Cleared the way to the surface, killing all drow in sight. Returned to Swirfneblin village, sold all equipment except bolts (used later for creation of Adamantite dust piles), 1 Drow Full Plate +5 (for now, Torham has it equipped as best possible armor) and 1 Drow Elven Chain (just in case).

Cleared the Illithid city. Almost identical to IA 5.0, save from the fact that once the last door is opened, the party is teleported inside and the doors close. Sikret apparently made it so in order for the immobile Master Brain to shoot Purge Magics and actually to have some usefulness in this fight. He summons improved Brain Golems and an Elemental Golem. In that narrow space, usually the Purge magic hits all, and this probably was Sikret's plan all along. However, the way to trick this plan is having a decoy (best a mage) near the Master Brain (while all the rest are as far away as possible) and as soon as the stupid Master Brain chooses his Purge Magic target (the closest buffed party member - the mage), this mage runs in a direction opposing the party, and thus is the only one actually affected by the Purge magic. There is no time for a second Purge, since the party slaughtered the Elemental Golem, and next the master Brain. Loot: Sling of Everard (item randomizer).

Also freed, used and killed Vithal. The Rod of Absorbtion is nonexistent, since Spell Deflection is no longer present in the game. Still, the rod won in this quest can be sold for a good amount of gold.

As a side note, quest-items previously without value now can be sold for a good price. For example, the Elder Orb's eyestalk or the Blood of the Master Brain are each worth 1800 gp when sold, the Control circlets are worth 375 gold each, the Rebel Orb of prince Villynaty is also worth some gold, Sekolah's tooth - too.

Vithal no longer drops a Time Stop scroll, but a Spellstrike one instead. The other items are as usual.

Ended the chapter. Talked to Elhan. Travelled to Athkatla. Killed Drizzt and his party. Sold the loot to the swirfneblin. Travelled to the Grave District. Bodhi summoned 4 Eminent Vampires vs the party. Dealt with those. Rested, buffed well, travelled to the Docks. Battle with Kruin ensues. The battle was SO easy for the high-leveled party that I am ashamed to even describe it. It was over in 1 turn (2 elemental golems and all). Next, sold a lot of items to accumulate the gold needed for all the upgrades the party needs. Wasted all permanency scrolls assembled, but the manuals of elaboration and scrolls of memory boosting are still abundant. Forged:

Crom Faeyr +5 (nerfed elemental damage)
The Equalizer +3 (same as always)
The Wave +4, and then upgraded it to Poseidon's Wrath +5. Ingredients: The Wave +4 (blade and shaft at usual locations), Duskblade +2 (Shadow Patrick), a halberd +3 (1 Permanency scroll needed here), Frostreaver Axe +3 (vanilla location) and a Permanency scroll.

Adamantite Horn of Valhalla - gates in (meaning, cannot be killed by Death Spell/Fog) an 11-lvl Berserk Warrior, who is under permanent ?Improved? haste. Ingredients are cheap, but require a pile of Adamantite dust - meaning the item can be forged after chapter 5.

Ring of Greater Djinni Summoning: gates in a powerful Noble Djinni (a good F/M). Ingredients: Ring of Djinni Summoning (Aran Linvail no longer has this one - it has to be forged at a price - a Permanency scroll included), Ring of Air Control (Item Randomizer, this time it was in the Illithid hideout in the sewers), Air Library Note (lvl 2 WK, static), Efreeti Bottle (Deirex's tower lvl 2, Ust-Natha, chapter 5, static) and a Manual of Elaboration.

Huskar Lord's Armor +5:. Ingredients - Doomplate +3 (vanilla location - portal in Spellhold), two nonmagical fullplates, Armor of the Hart +3 (vanilla location - Demonknights chapter 5), two adamantite dust piles, some protective scrolls, and a Permanency scroll again.

Improved Cat Figurine - Cat Figurine (Spellhold Library), 6 scrolls of Free Action (skeleton lords usually or enemy clerics), a Wish scroll (various locations, don't remember precisely).

Corthala's True Family Blade +5 - a nifty upgrade, since it doesn't require a permanency scroll. Ingredients: a +3 Katana (Ferric Ironblade from Samia's party has one), Malakar +2 (Item Randomzier), Ajatha the Drinker (vanilla location - Planar Prison Warden), Valygar's katana, Corthala Family scabbard (Lavok's corpse), and three Golden Star Garnet gems (one from Captain Haegan, second from Pirate Captain, third from the Dracolich itself - so the upgrade cannot be completed pre-Spellhold).

Indigo Ioun Stone - combines the Pearly White, Pale Green and Dusty Rose Ioun Stones in one, using only 3 Ziose and 3 Iol gems.

Also, Saros and Grunt hit the cap, gaining lvl 40. Chose yet another Hardiness (making a total of 7 for each of them). Valygar is the only one leveling up, so far he's 37, nearly 38.

Current party gold is only 50 000, but at least, there are many items available for sale.

Well, my game is over.

Decided to grab a few levels - for the fighters mainly... though none of use were very high level, having around 4 million xp each (except Sarevok) - before having another crack at the 2nd floor of the fire temple. Started the ritual quest from Tactics (it's supposed to be done with a SoA party, in respect for this, I didn't use any 9th level spells/HLAs) - though the skulls and their defenders were not hard, I failed to keep Merentha alive (I think you need to Maze her, or somesuch non violent way of interrupting the spell)... Figured I'd come back later to finish matters with Pontifex.

Completed WK 3 & 4, demons with Tahazzar were tough as always, especially now they cast a lot of new spells and teleport after the weakest party member (Viccy). No casualties though. Didn't win anything in the card game with Aesgareth. Still got some nice items - Circlet of Netheril in the usual place.

Then we returned to the fire temple, the dragon was slain quickly once we pulled him from the rest of the bad guys (easily done as he's the only one who sees through invisibility), Berenn and co. followed him anyway and started gating devas again (with SCS, npcs get back their spells if you leave the area for long) - but only managed to call one before he fell. I must've just prepared badly the first time.

However, Yaga Shura was a no show, and after hanging around the Siege camp for a LONG time (with the "you can see Yaga Shura to the West" message looping) I quit in frustration: The last in a long line of bugs for this game. Well, my party was overpowered anyway... Playing with a Kensai/Mage felt a kind of hollow victory.

Battlguard of Tempus, Fugit has finished BG1 and entered Amn.
Thanks to Humanoid Taifun for telling me how to import him into BG2. (Because he is from Divine Remix, he got imported as a standard cleric. I therefore used Shadowkeeper to edit a newly made Battleguard to match what he should have been.)
Hope that I have done it correctly.

Thinking about Jan, Jaheira, Cernd, Haer'Dalis and eventually Imoen plus beast master 12 > cleric if it gets that far. Cernd (Faldorn) and Haer'Dalis (most of the planar prison) usually cause me problems if I try too early and I think I'm right in saying they leave if you don't finish the grove/return to Raelis. hmm.

Imoen and Jaheira have dainty back-packs so I enlist Minsc to carry the heavy loot. They all find suitable weapons but I flap around in golden pantaloons until a table near Ilyich yields a club. Minsc gains the Sword of Chaos while Jaheira loses her husband.

I am incapacitated and almost killed by a salt mephit and goblins. Imoen saves me with a timely yet painful fireball that fries everything else. A close call (14/124hp remaining).

A full backpack during the wand pedestals causes me to drop my familiar, and I just manage to stop Imoen picking it up.

Eventually we emerge into daylight, only for Imoen to be incarcerated for the illegal use of magic. Jaheira sells the surplus goods while I tell Minsc to wait for us in the Copper Coronet, then we recruit Jan.

Why dual at level 12 and not 13? If you dual at level 13 you get an extra half attack right?

I agree. I would do it at level 13 as well. Takes a bit more time to catch up with the cleric levels though.

You can avert the problems with Haer Dalis and Cernd by not hiring them into your party. You can let them wait forever until you think the time is right to face their foes.

If romancing Saerileth, I do of course, have to keep the charisma high, as you get found out if it is magically enhanced.

Diary of Fugit
Went to  investigate the lamp that we were given outside the circus. We ended up giving Kalah a second chance.
Outside the hotel in the Gate District, we were asked to help at Trademeet. This ended up with us freeing the Druid's grove and killing Nilthiri to restore the balance. The battle with Nilthiri was long and hard, and we ended up using a small fortune's worth of potions in the process. We are now returning to Trademeet, and hopefully this will recoup some of our losses.
The reward was considerable and I can now afford the Shield of Cheese.

I have just gone up a level and now find that I can use a sling!
Impossible as a battleguard of Tempus.
Whilst I can just avoid using slings, I am wondering if this bug is a symptom of a more wide-reaching bug.
Anybody able to answer?

Could it be because I used Shadowkeeper to correct my stats? Perhaps another mod conflict?

The Battleguard is some kit for melee!!! Quite a tank!!!
Diary of Fugit

After beating the trolls fairly easily (Except those in the last room), I took on the golems using melee and was amazed to find that when buffed they didn't wound me at all. TorGal and his friends were also quite easy.

I am now trying to do a quest given by Talos to get back their followers who are following a cult.

Beast Master got a spell at 12. I'll aim for lucky 13 and see how I get on with Jaheira and Jan. Could be fun while it lasts.

aha - can edit posts after a few hours...

Merwin, CG human beast master with Jan & Jaheira.

Jaheira explains the problem. Apparently I'm a hindrance, but with a bit of care I may just survive. Jan suggests it can take years to become a real hindrance but that I appear to be a quick learner.

My first task is to free Hendak. Who'd have thought I could obtain the Sling of Seeking afterwards. Jaheira makes a grab for it but I give her a girdle (bluntness), helm (Balduran) and ring (protection +1) instead. I have to buy a staff mace and medium shield at the Adventurers Mart before she gets the message that she is more expendable than me.

Hendak wants me to stop slavery in the city. Sounds easy but he must be mad if he thinks I'm going to fight my way through the sewers. Jan uses all his cunning to avoid the Cowled Mages by casting Stoneskin inside the tavern and off we go. He picks a lock and we can enter the slaver compound. Stoneskin, iron skins, Bruiser Mates, insect plague and duhm SoS make short work of Haegan and his slavers. Hendak is so pleased he hands me Kondar, little realising the sentimental value this blade has to Jaheira.

Our search for easy work leads us to Lt Aegisfield. Two minutes of painstaking detective work lead us to Rejiek Hidesman who immediately confesses and escapes. After killing his assassins we return to inform Aegisfield of our failure to apprehend or eliminate the menace,

Entering the challenge with Bassett and his allsorts - having completed BG1 using BGT.  Just run through the dungeon - a bit of a shock to the system not having the near invulnerability available at the end of BG1 and used up the majority of the healing potions available to get through without resting.  Bassett also forsook his magical heritage for a while to don armour and front up against the duergar.  The only real problem came from the invisible assassins at the exit who gave Imoen a nasty backstab. Bassett has the advantage of the tomes from BG1 as can be seen below.

I think that he has just used the Frabjous re-roller and mods that have extra tomes.

The greyclan episode for instance has a tome that adds to intelligence. I think that he was playing other mods as well. See BG1 forum for more info. It's all there.

I'm not sure where he got the extra dexterity and constitution tomes though. Probably Dark side of the Sword Coast.

That's why my stats for Fugit are so high.

Comment re Battleguard of Tempus. Certainly a good tank. Surprised that it was the bad guys that asked me to do the unseeing eye quest since my character is Chaotic Good. Wonder if the reward is any good to me?
Wait and see. The ability to resist acid is VERY useful when combined with web and cloudkill. Eveyone converges on me and dies. Wish that I had freedom of action as well, but that's being greedy.

wise is correct that the dexterity and constitution tomes came from DSOTSC.  This was the first time I've played that and I'm not 100% sure where I collected them, but I think at least one was in the analog of the Candlekeep catacombs.  The original stats (18s with charisma 5) were a genuine roll.  I have on just a couple of occasions resorted to other methods, but have a strong preference for rolling normally.  I did actually fail to pick up a wisdom tome from Durlag's Tower (I think because I'd already completed the same map areas in DSOTSC and had in my mind that I had done that), which was a bit of a blunder for a cleric!

Coming out of the dungeon the party went to recruit Nalia.  Then headed to pick up Viconia, but were ambushed on the way and Nalia was killed by a backstab (I really must prepare better for those invisible thievesPosted Image).  Heading back to the promenade to rest there was a further encounter with bandits which resulted in the rescue of Renfeld.  After returning him there was finally a chance to rest for the first time since arriving from Baldur's Gate.  On waking decided to look round nearby locations and got into an argument with a group in the inn next door.  This was won, though Jaheira was cut down in the process by a hefty blow from a berserk warrior - this resurrection business is getting expensive.

Edit: just ended Kalah's reign in the circus tent.  However, on exit found a new wrinkle to this quest - apparently a magic lamp made him act this way - something to check out.

Grond0, that's a nice wrinkle you've found. Just a little sub-plot.

Diary of Tempus

I have dealt with the unseeing eye and pleased Talos in the process. He offered me a room to sleep in, but as I am no follower of his, refused it. His reward was generous however.

I then got involved with Xzar and Montaron. Well, it looks like they won't be part of my party in the future!

Must go and find somewhere to rest.

Whilst Nalia is OK at opening locks, her disabling of traps is hopeless even after taking a potion.

She is an Adventurer/Conjurer. I was surprised that jahiera could not detect traps, but as I can, that is no problem.

Bassett's run comes to an early end at the D'Arnise castle.  Normally I find this simple, but one of the mods appears to have ramped up the difficulty considerably.  I did get warnings; being surrounded by a slaver party ambush accompanied by 8 orogs and 4 trolls was worrying and the groups of 6-8 trolls in the corridors where the vanilla would have one.  However, the killer blow was by a spirit troll.  This had a permanent improved invisibility on - I dispelled it 3 times, but each time it went invisible again before I could target it with even a magic missile.  It also had what looked like about 50% damage resistance making it difficult to overcome the regeneration.  It had already shown other significant spell use, e.g. 5th level cleric spell greater command and I presume it was some sort of spell that killed Bassett (or possibly a delayed death touch like Aec'Letec as Bassett had been in hand to hand combat with it earlier).

Oh well - back to the drawing board.  Next time I'll plunder the city of equipment before venturing out.

Sounds like a tough mod you've got installed there! Comisserations. Have you got SCS 2 installed?

That could make quite a difference.

Diary of Fugit (Updated)

I have now rescued the slaves reached by going through the back room at the inn and picked up Lilacor. Now returned to the inn for a rest. I picked up Yoshimo, solved the skinner murders and dealt with those who buried people alive. I now intend to visit Yoshimo's old haunts in the docks.

I have got SCS 2, but I think I had that the previous time I played and the settings this time were much harder - even the basic bandit ambushes were quite dangerous because all of the bandits could cast disabling spells (hold, domination etc) as well as the backstab danger from invisible thieves.  I thought it was probably the Solaufein mod, which I haven't played before, although it's possible that I have just adopted harder settings on SCS 2.

I'll aim to play through BG1 quickly next time and then prepare more thoroughly for combats.

It shows that good stats are not of major importance. I like to get the best ones that I can (without cheating) but strategy is all-important.

Diary of Fugit (Continued)

I met up with Yoshimo in the Copper Coronet after beating the slavers. Nalia died temporarily after getting caught in her own web/cloudkill trap. (I forgot that the short sword that protects against hold, does not protect against web.Posted Image
I helped Yoshimo to get on better terms with Renal, though still have to clear Mae's stronghold.

I lost first Nalia from my party and then Jahiera.

Got Jahiera back just in time to get her cursed. Sorted out that problem. Got Nalia back. Got the Illithium for Sir Sarles. Killed Neb.

Intend to kill Mae next.

Merwin, CG human beast master with Jan, Jaheira and joined by Cernd.

My indecent stats are somewhat underwhelming compared to fellow adventurers so I try to keep a low profile.

First we retrieve a horn of Valhalla then fail to rescue Nevin from Uncle Lester (oops) before killing Suna Seni and slavers. Almost immediately we are forced to rescue Renfeld. A mad cleric of Cyric has to be dealt with on the way to the Harper HQ and after dropping Renfeld off Valen wants us to meet her mistress. Brus must have overheard this and tells us to seek out Gaelan Bayle. A few steps further and Xzar the necromancer wants us to rescue his thieving sidekick called Montaron. All in good time. We try to stash goods outside the Adventurers Mart but are ambushed by orogs and have to loot their corpses first.

Am-Si, Camitis and Reti are dead so I resolve to collect their ransom demand before my companions arrive. Welther hands over a pair of silver pantaloons and the deed is done.

We have enough cash to deal with Gaelan Bayle now, but also a list of minor jobs. We fight our way out of a bandit ambush but decide to flee a second. Our hopes of a rest at Trademeet are dashed and we have to fight off wild animals before we can rescue Cernd.

We go straight to the druid grove, resting after each group of trolls injure us. A group of fighters is easier, druids scare Jaheira but we are too strong for them and then we send the berserk warrior to distract two spore colonies. He survives to lead the attack against three more druids and we finally find a decent club for Jaheira.

Fresh spells and a rest are needed before we confront Faldorn. Cernd tries first, and fails. Jaheira revives him and after a rest he tries again. Doom works, hold person does not and he somehow summons a nymph despite an insect plague. She casts hold monster and Faldorn is held as Cernd shifts to tear her apart.

When we return to the city Cernd learns he is a father and his child is in the limited care of Deril. No doubt we will have to investigate this soon but not quite yet.

Merwin, CG human beast master (9) with Jan (9/11), Jaheira (9/11) and Cernd (12). Add Haer'Dalis (11).

At Watchers Keep I tell Odren I know what I'm doing, ie buying the Firetooth crossbow and having a quick look. We step inside to deal with a stone golem and some orogs and emerge with a quiver of plenty, case of plenty, golem manual, crimson dart and ammo belt.

Tarnor the Hatchetman and gang can't stop us from helping Mekrath or rescuing Haer'Dalis. On our way back to Raelis Shai he and I are level drained by Sansuki and two nameless vampires. We have no suitable spells so have to visit a temple.

Raelis Shai opens a portal and after a succession of battles her entire troupe are captured by bounty hunters. We follow them into a (gulp) planar prison. The bounty hunters soon fall, as do some unfortunate thralls. Our best summoning spells are memorised then being careful not to step on any moving parts we follow our minions to attack the master of thralls. Three of us are held but Cernd manages to dispel so only Jan is held, and the master dies.

We rest before sending a few summons (fire elemental, nymph, wolves, bears, panthers, etc) at a time towards the warden. The battle is over before we run out of summons and all that is left for us to do is loot the place, free the troupe, recruit Haer'Dalis again and identify what items to keep or sell.

Gaelan Bayle has his money, but Jan has asked us to help with a family issue, then left us to complete the task for him. A vampire called Parisia and her ruffians kill Cernd and almost drain both Jaheira and Haer'Dalis away, forcing another temple visit.

As we try to help Jan we meet Baron Ployer. It doesn't take long to track him down and sort out the curse placed on Jaheira. The Hidden seems satisfied that our fire elementals have eliminated his hunters , and as a result Jan returns to travel with us again.

After killing Xzar's apprentices we deliver an assassin to Xzar himself. Jaheira is summoned to the Harper HQ where we are attacked and forced to defend ourselves. Then we watch as Mook is killed, but Lassal somehow escapes us. As we chase his gaseous form we are attacked by Tanova and two vampires. Jaheira is charmed twice and despite the amulet of power Haer'Dalis is easy prey for the vampires. We have killed one, and Tanova is almost dead but then Cernd loses 4 levels and dies and I am the next target. Jan considers some unlawful magic but there is little he can do to save me.

Beast Master is strange. What I usually found difficult wasn't, and vice versa. Will be back at some point, good luck to the rest of you.

Thalantyr Item Upgrade
BG2 UB
SCS
Solaufein
G3 Anniversary Mod
SCS II
BG2 Tweaks

Just started the dungeon and can see one immediate consequence of playing BGT - Minsc is not available (he was in my BG1 party, but then got annoyed because we were too slow in going to rescue Dynaheir and he had to be put down).

Welcome back Grond0.
That didn't take long.
At least you have a wide selection of new companions.

Diary of Fugit

Whilst at the Umar Hills, we were asked to deal with various problems.

We bought a jewel from inside a chicken, helped a mage and his daughter, and killed the Shade Lord.

Went back to kill the dragon but Nalia got killed.
We ran for it. I raised her and we then went back for her possessions.
In the process, two of my companions were level drained.
We therefore legged it again.
Decided to inform the mayor of what we had done and he was most generous.

Before I could get back to the dragon, Dermin turned up and fell out with Jahiera. She gave up her membership of the harpers.

Then Saerileth was kidnapped by a demon.
In the process of rescuing her, I was able to buy, Illithium, the Shield of Hermes, some Boots of Quickness and some good sling bullets.

We have now been asked to clear out some vampires.

I am wondering whether to have Keldhorn instead of Saerileth in the party. He is considerably more powerful .
TWO LEVELS DIFFERENCE

I don't know how helpful she is later. I already have the Hammer of Tyr.

Edit
I decided that Keldorn would augment Saerileth, so now both are in the team. Together we beat the shadow dragon easily.
We managed to stop the land in the area being ravaged.

We then went to the druid grove again and were asked to help a boy in Trademeet.

This we did, and also stopped the fighting between rival factions there. We also helped Tyris.

Dermin has now REALLY fallen out with Jahiera.

I joined up with Keldorn and Cernd. They then left to support their family. I then visited the govenment district where I rescued Viconia, though she did not join with me. Korgan then joined us and we found the book that he wanted. Then Amber and a turnip seller joined the party. We then recovered spider's bane for a druid, and found Wellwyn's bear..
Addendum
I am not in romance with Saerileth, probably due to the fact that she is Racist/Sizist?

I am wondering if the tomes that Tyr gives after helping at Watcher's Keep are still given if in friendship with Saerileth.
