Understood.

(afraid Grond0itis means I now drop some junk like keys once used).

I should start doing that too.

(In real life I'm a hard core minimalist. In Faerun I'm a hopeless packrat.)

2-3 times now I've noticed this and tried to work out who, think I've finally got it. Officer Dirth?

:P

I think you've got it. We'll just have to wait and see.

(It's an easy mistake to make. There is a Droth in BG1, of course.)

Best,

(I'll allow myself long sessions, but I make a point of switching to something else if I become disinterested.)

Cusp - dwarf swashbuckler (hour 9)

The session started carelessly when I walked into the mad cleric (having dodged / bypassed him up to now).  He's now no real danger and Cusp was able to interrupt his spells with his new dual wielding abilities (now put a second pip in two weapon fighting).  The cleric got scared and disappeared somewhere around the thieves guild.

Returned Renfeld and then attacked Prebek's house.  Used DUHM and RoAC (in the nearby temple to avoid annoying the Cowled Wizards) and the mages went down under a single blow each.  After seeing Xzar killed (again), Cusp started off on Mae'Var's quests.  While travelling to the Temple District he triggered the orog ambush.  He put down 3 snares then led the orogs to those / summons using the ring of energy - that was enough to kill all the opposition without the need for melee.

After recovering the Priestess' amulet Cusp moved on to Rayic's house.  An initial trap did a fair amount of damage to Rayic and acid arrows from the stairs finished him off before he ran out of stoneskins.  Minutes later he was invading Mae'Var's Guildhouse - a first use of Gaxx haste quickly dealing with the main man.  Didn't bother taking the stronghold on.

The session ended with a failed attempt on the Guarded Compound that could easily have seen the end of the run.  The plan was to stand back while the glabrezu eliminated the opposition downstairs and then lure him into traps.  That worked perfectly, other than the slight flaw that the traps didn't fire.  It appeared that in fighting my enemies for so long the game had started to treat the glabrezu as on my side - so as soon as it hit Kitthix the traps targeted her!

That was a dangerous situation as the glabrezu followed Cusp out of the building and had a small window of opportunity to use PW: stun on him before his potion of speed took him out of range.  There was just time to set up another attempt at an ambush, but the glabrezu was still able to walk over traps, so I'll just have to try and remember to avoid this area until Cusp can get over 90 HPs (needs 4 more levels with a potion of power).

Cusp - swashbuckler L14, 74 HPs (incl. 6 from ioun stone), 342 kills

I'm not sure.  I've made a number of mistakes in the run anyway, but I dare say it's helped avoid othersPosted Image.  I find the restriction a bit irritating - this morning for instance I would normally have fitted in a couple more hours into an early morning session before work.  I'll continue doing it for this run, but wouldn't expect to do so in future.

Russell IV and his band of level 9 paladins
Traveling with: Misty (Cavalier), Hanna (Undead Hunter), Joshua (Undead Hunter), Forrest (Paladin), Paja (Inquisitor)

So Russell IV and his group defeat the genies in Trademeet and get the shield of harmony for Misty. Now she can successfully tank in Umar Hills Temple - though first Russell IV used a stone to flesh scroll on Joshua, who got turned to stone.

Once in the Umar Hills Temple area (Surface), we had to deal with the large mass of undead guarding the entrance. We did OK EXCEPT Forrest got held - luckily his groupmates managed to kill his enemies before the enemies killed him...

Once inside, the undead weren't hard for the group at all (hardly suprising with 2 undead hunters leading the way). Also the two groups of undead that vary in power, were only a skeletal warrior and 2 shadows - not even shadow fiends. Presumably it's because of our low level (9).

Russell IV used his 16 INT and did NOT engage the shadow dragon - yet.
Posted Image
Pallies wave to shadow dragon as they pass...

He knows he needs lots more levels for his group before he can attempt it. There were a number of corpses nearby, poor saps...as for the Shade Lord, he died before he could even finish his speech...when the paladins returned they battled some rangers, who could only offer a little resistance. The mayor was happy for our success.

Once we sold everything, we had some good gold, so checked all the vendors - ah fire resistance potions, we will take all of them - why you ask? Russell IV plans on getting Captain Dennis 3 full plates early again, and the biggest threat other than Captain Dennis himself is the flamestrikes/fireballs the druid and mage cast - if the party can be protected, they should do well. Russell IV also purchases 3 frost giant potions for that fight as well.

We return to Waukeen's promenade to bank, and purchase the Fortress Shield for Hanna and Rod of Resurrection. Despite Russell IV's careful planning, he would not be surprised if a group member fell against Captain Dennis group.

The team gets to the bridge district and goes Russell IV's plan of many potions and maximum paladin buffs. The team obtained the horn of valhalla moments before. This summon and the genie lamp will be used to hopefully soak up any instant death spell the mage may have - attack! The attack goes very well, except Misty got picked on and killed - however all the enemies fell, and Rod of Resurrection got her back to speed. Now entire party is using full plate except Paja, who is too weak for it. Her current armor has fire resistance, which may be good for her anyways to help prevent her being chunked. We also got the boomerang dagger, a great upgrade for Misty who can't use most ranged weapons.

Even though the party is hurt, we have a lot of good buffs running, so we chase after Reijek taking lots of trap damage, although the rune assassins and ghasts had zero chance. We also charge into a warehouse and find a hostile party. The enemies could only offer a little resistance. What was funny was a Nabassu got summoned and did...nothing! Oh our protection from evil! We attacked it and killed it for the experience.

The party traveled to Waukeen's Promenade once more to upgrade the Horn of Valhalla - now we only have 16 gold. With our good armor and summons and Inquisitor dispel magics and true sight, we should be able to defeat Mencar Pebblecrusher right to help our gold? Yes, we defeat his group rather easily - the enemy mages did get a confusion off, but the inquisitors were well back and after two attempts, the confusion was quickly dispelled and the enemies quickly slain.

The party also slew the many undead in the crypts, including the Crypt King. For all melee parties, I always prefer to take out the Crypt King first for his Namuraa, which is extremely helpful for Trademeet main quest. We ended our session here at 400,000 exp each (need 600,000 for level 10 - pallies sure level slow).

We have that Case already (and even an upgraded version) - your alter ego is carrying it as it of no use for Krimlor :). Those bolts +1 in Krimlor's inventory are just looted from Derros and are ready for selling (both my Ammo Belts are already full of more useful junk).

Russell IV and his band of level 9 paladins.... Update 3
Traveling with: Misty (Cavalier), Hanna (Undead Hunter), Joshua (Undead Hunter), Forrest (Paladin), Paja (Inquisitor)

So Russell IV's team took on the enemies in the druid grove. With our good AC, trolls were of little trouble, not even in the troll mound. The shadow druids themselves were disabled by Namuraa's silence ability. Cernd of course took out Faldhorn. We reported our success to the Mayor of Trademeet, he was pleased.

While in Trademeet, we cleaned out the tomb of undead and turned in the mantle to the Mayor, per his request. We also saved Raissa from Reijek - this got us to reputation 20. Also, thanks to Misty's blade of roses and ring human influence, she has 20 charisma.

We decided to pay off Galen Bayle. Linvail gave us the Amulet of Power, which no one can use, so have to sell and the +2 ring. Ring went to Russell IV since he must survive. Since it was night-time, we went ahead and obtained the weathermistriess' amulet for Maevar.

Next up, Edwin wanted us to deal with Rayic Gethras. The team destroyed the mephits on the lower level. Stone golems weren't too bad, other than Hanna was taking a beating. We are getting real low on heal potions...For Rayic himself, Paja fired off a well aimed dispel magic, which apparently did get rid most of his buffs - enough that once that hit, he fell instantly. Other than buffing himself, I don't even think he got any offensive spells off.

We got some trouble leaving Rayic's place - we got hit with the Sansuki vampire ambush - and since we paid Galen, the vamps attacked. Russell IV, Paja and Forrest all got level drained. I had Forrest and Paja get some distance, and Russell IV spent most of the fight running in circles, waiting until his undead hunter friends could help him out, which eventually they did. Russell IV doesn't have a magical weapon yet, he will get the Flail of Ages, once they deal with D'Arnise Keep. So we get restored at a temple, rest and consider our next move.

Cusp - dwarf swashbuckler (hour 10)

Belatedly went to relieve the Copper Coronet (that's normally the first thing I do after the circus).  No problems in the sewers on the way to the Slaver ship.  Captain Haegan and the first mage went down without much of a fight, but the second one's stoneskins let him get off his full quota of spells before he was the last to fall.  Fittingly, on exiting, Cusp was able to release another slave.

Initially Cusp set off for de'Arnise Hold next, but after an ambush detoured to Trademeet.  Battling some genies allowed him to buy Blackblood, along with various other goodies.  He's just reached the Troll Mound, though not without a struggle - this giant troll was the last of a group, but put up a fierce fight.

Cusp - swashbuckler L15, 77 HPs (incl. 7 from ioun stone), 440 kills

I'm not picking any mere +3's up Serg so will "virtually" leave them for you.

Sendai's Enclave, part 1

Carthusian punches and kicks his way past spore colonies, spiders and umber hulks of two varieties. The slaves fail to spot him until it is too late for their slavemaster, and he escapes without battling them further. Odamaron casts PfMW twice and has stoneskins too but a bit of patience and the Firetooth dagger are too much for him.

Having struggled against Ogremoch with monks before I knew Carthusian would be in serious trouble. Back to Sister Garlena and then to Cespenar. With dispel on hit it seems prudent to use absorbtion > hardiness > RoAC II > Ilbratha Mirror > GWW in case Ogremoch is immune to the improved Short Sword of Mask level drains.

The stoneskins rise and fall, the levels merely fall as does Ogremoch after a few GWW's.

Sendai's Enclave, part 2
To drain a vampire, oh and a bit of the bossette too. The drains are mutual.
Posted Image

Carthusian retreats, finishing off the cornugon and demon knight - but he's been hauled back to level 32. With stalky in the corner he switches robes / rings for guaranteed magic resistance and makes another foray inside.

Time to switch back to fists, question is...how long for?

Sendai laughs at Carthusian and asks how it felt to use a second lesser restoration scroll after the vampiric illithid. Tell the truth, he's a bit worried with only 31 scrolls left (should have bought the rest...)

Anyway, game on. After 3 incarnations are killed the fourth casts PW:CrashtoDesktop. Carthusian is not to be put off despite having to deal with the stabby incarnation again. This time Sendai is revealed and as her invisible stalkers, skeleton warriors and sword spiders are cleared Carthusian uses a GWW before turning to kill another skeleton warrior. Sendai casts harm so Carthusian moves away and allows the Rod of Resurrection (I view it as a fair option for harm, not for anything else).

Another GWW has Sendai in serious trouble so Carthusian slows his attacks down and despite many GWW's left uses normal time to pulp her.

After a full rest Carthusian pops the Slayer with 7-8 GWW's in the Pocket Plane. He's taken about 40% damage in return despite hardiness, mirrors and improved invisibility. A tough opponent (concerned about the Ravager).

Remove magic. Fine, Carthusian decides to test the brown dragon breath. Predictably it is painful and he finds room to Pocket Plane, Gaxx healing before he returns to check the short sword of Mask.

Straight through the stoneskin but big ugly rapidly hides...
Posted Image

13 GWW's and a WW have delivered 12 level drains but Draconis is still a formidable opponent. Carthusian goads a series of dragon breath attacks, nipping in after each for a couple of hits with his fists instead of the sword. A few wing buffets are taken in return and Draconis repeatedly stoneskins, also finding time to heal or cure wounds.

Carthusian is moving to maximise the breath damage across as many invisible stalkers as possible while moving whenever he looks like being blocked in. He is generally able to ride the wing buffets and as the battle nears a conclusion stays in for 3 hits each attack and then four. Draconis is steadily deteriorating between stoneskins and after twenty or so attacks the inevitable happens (before the other inevitable happens!!)

Nice work Gate70! I had a 6 monk party (that could use wands, which is vanilla BG 2 behavior) that tried many times to defeat Draconis (not no-reload), but failed - I had to give up that run. I am glad to see ya make it. Just remember you need +4 weapons/ammo vs. his dad, and of course lightning defense...guess if you had to you could use the hidey-hole and fling a bunch of +4 bullets at him...

Are you sure about +4. I thought things like the crimson dart worked, and even the dwarven thrower.

I doubt there is much "could" regarding the hidey hole. Reckon it is a certainty - while it might be possible to stay out of it there's no way I'm risking it in a no reload as I've lost several against him when one wing buffet or tail slap gives him a free meal...

Yes - In my recent run with Corthief II, I had several party members with +3 weapons/ammo who could not damage Abazigal ever, not until they used +4 weapons/ammo. I eventually equipped non-proficient slings so I could use the +4 bullets...although, even that wasn't getting the job done and laid down spike traps/snares and lead Abazigal to it...

In my install he just has standard dragon immunity to non magical projectiles. He does cast Stoneskins and ProMW, however.

I sympathize. There have been times of late when I've wanted to forgo using the hidey-hole. What gives me pause are all those little nooks in his lair that can easily trap a wing buffeted character.

Were it not for Tamah I'd probably be willing to skip the hidey-hole, but I can absolutely understand the desire to play it safe.

Good luck Gate!

Sounds odd - Corthief's battle with Abazigal was very long (maybe 60-80 rounds?) - How could have Aba kept up so many PfMW, thought it only lasts 4 rounds surely dragons don't have that many spell slots...the other possibility is all those +3 melee weapons/ammo all missed for that long, and that seems pretty unlikely too, should get a natural 20 eventually...perhaps I should try to look it up: Hmm, Abazigal has -12 AC, I guess it's possibly my guys were just flat missing him, many were underleveled after all. That's good then that Gate70 doesn't need +4 weapons after all then...

Edit. Corey, Abazigal and Draconis are cheaty cheats. Unlimited Stoneskin and PfMW, once every few rounds or so. Demogorgon is another, stoneskin something like every 4 rounds if memory serves, and Ogremoch.

Final update...for tonight.

The frost salamanders inside the lair of Abazigal were a blooming pain, so much so that a potion and scroll were used to get cold resistance up to 120%, and a precautionary scroll took electrical resistance to 70%. Abazigal lumbered around as Carthusian zipped from one side to the other and eliminated his support. A Hardiness > WW > GWW saw Abazigal lose patience and hurl Carthusian back to the entrance.

Carthusian needed to lay on hands - should have done it on the run as Abazigal sat his fat a**e across the entrance. Carthusian tried running to the south, then to the north - just enough room to escape.

Into the hidey hole as a remove magic, greater malison (think), tail slap, lower electrical resistance and dragon breath were released. Abazigal repeatedly tried these moves but the electrical resistance stubbornly stuck at 70% thanks to either magic resistance or the cloak of mirroring. Had the cloak of reflection as a reserve and a couple more scrolls and potions.

Out comes the Firetooth dagger, eventually hitting for 1-2 damage. Up goes a stoneskin. All repeated several rounds later, and a few rounds later. Carthusian is ready the next time and does the F2-E-Click combo (switch to fist, GWW and run in to attack in melee). The first couple of attempts are badly timed and see wing buffets or stoneskins used but the next few times work much better.

Abazigal is taken to badly wounded then approaches death. Carthusian is maintaining about 80hp each time and the last attack is a prolongued one.
