Zetran and his band of fighter/clerics - update 2
Traveling with: Melissa, Hanna, Vicky, Paja, Anomen

So the party deals with the circus problem. We had to summon magical weapons, since basically no one had any, but we got the job done.

Our next fight was against Bregg and his buddy Corhvale - no problem for the team.

After that we recruited Anomen and then worked on freeing Hendak. The first fight by the cells went well - the entire party except Anomen entered the room with sanctuary and got in position - this worked perfectly. Beastmaster battle went smooth also, mainly due to 5 skeleton distractions keeping the Beastmaster occupied while the party dealt with the bears. Hendak was pleased to be released. Our first major purchase (other than a RoAC for Zetran earlier) is a sling of seeking for Zetran.

We then go to the Promenade and get a +2 warhammer - looks like weapons will be a high priority - Melissa equips it for now, since she and Hanna are usually in the front lines.

Our next major encounter was a battle against Mencar Pebblecrusher. We of course had 5 skeleton friends enter the room, then we did maximum buffs and triggered the fight. We did silence x2 at the mages (which worked) and we also did doom and hold on Mencar, which also worked. Brennan Risling got two huge backstabs on Hanna, each hit took her down to 1/3 life, but then we concentrated fire on him and he fell, though he did try to escape. Concentrated fire also took down Orcslicer. Mencar was simple being held. And the mages fell easily as well since they were silenced. We got some great news, our first levels in Amn, cleric level 8.

We will probably get the full plate from Dirth next session.

Hanna, 71 HP, 34 kills, Mephit Portal
Melissa, 79 HP, 30 kills, Bregg
Vicky, 66 HP, 12 kills, Cambion
Paja, 72 HP, 10 kills, Mencar Pebblecrusher
Zetran, 81 HP, 20 kills, Cohrvale
Anomen, 86 HP, 3 kills, Sorcerous Amon

Vicky kills are so low partly as it took a long time before we could even get her a weapon in the dungeon, she had to use her fists for much of the time.

Modded Irenicus sounds as frapped as beholder/gauth scripts in multiplayer (ignore obvious target and zap hidden protagonist on other side of map). Sorry to see it end like that.

Cusp - dwarf swashbuckler (hour 21)

Cusp started the session by cloudkilling some ambushing drow on a bridge in order to leave the survivors as an easy kill.  After receiving a disguise from Adalon he successfully remembered his new name to get admission to Ust Natha.

After patronizing the shops Cusp set about doing a few tasks for his new masters.  Boz & co fell into some traps on the way to rescue Phaere - only Damien the thief surviving and he didn't last long against a vicious critical. Phaere was rescued with no trouble, although one of the illithid did actually managed to suck Cusp once.

A dead beholder, a bare-headed gnome and a bare-shouldered Solaufein later and Cusp handed over some brain blood to the Matron Mother.  A bit of jiggery-pokery with some eggs ended up with Ardulace and Phaere both being punished by a trading standards demon and Cusp hurried out of the city.

It's marginal whether Adalon gets killed by 7 traps, but an opening hit from Cusp pushed her over the edge.  Shortly after, Cusp had carved his way through some kuo-toa and drow and escaped from the Underdark.

Back in the city I was a bit surprised that Kruin didn't immediately turn up so started sorting out equipment.  Unfortunately, after doing that he appeared, but after a conversation the game hung (same thing happened in current MP).  After loading the autosave I found him immediately, but again the game hung rather than Kruin attacking.  The third time I just said sod it and gave him the sword (which Cusp has no use for anyway).

As with last time a bug required an autosave reload I allowed an additional 10 minutes or so in the session to make up for the time lost to Kruin.  That allowed Cusp to look through the items he'd stored in the Promenade and put some of them into his backpack.  He still needs though to check the shops, visit Cromwell and get the Flesh Armour made.

Cusp - swashbuckler L38, 140 HPs (incl. 12 from ioun stone, 12 from familiar), 1,093 kills

Zetran and his band of fighter/clerics - Update 3

Zetran decides to go to Trademeet to get the Shield of Harmony - except he got waylaid by Remfeld. So instead, he goes to the docks and returns him. To get more heal potions, we also did Xzar's quest real quick. Too bad we couldn't get the charm helmet though...

We also did Maevar's Tasks as well. The key one, as always was Rayic Gethras. We buffed to the max, and tried to attack him - our biggest problem is our fire buff expired mid-combat (we used it at the ground level mephitis) - this meant a sunfire did massive damage - we spent two rounds healing, Rayic dimensioned doored and when he showed himself our attacks finally finished him. Since Anomen has the most HP and also the only one with fire resistance, he had him loot the trapped tables in the room.

Taking out Maevar himself was pretty straightforward with 5 skeletons assisting. Our turn in to Bloodscalp got the fighter/clerics to level 8.

We defeated the Suna Sune ambush easily - lots of hold persons and a silence does give Suna much of a chance...felt strange having to sell the Arbane, since no one can or ever will use.

We attacked and killed the genie with the genie lamp, and we buffed and attacked inside the tent against the lead genie - most important buff being protection from petrification on Zetran - a genie tried to petrify someone, probably Hanna but she saved. Success! The Shield of Harmony Hanna will use

We bought the blackbood club for Hanna, so that we have a way to take out trolls, and will peek at the druid grove next.

Cusp - dwarf swashbuckler (hour 22)

Forged Gesen and the Wave.  Bought the Scarlet Ninja-to, Defender of Easthaven, Sling of Everard, Helm of Brilliance and a few more scrolls.  Killed Jan for his equipment.  Went to pick up the human Flesh Armour (I had the feeling that Fael ran away without going hostile, which was the reason for the summons, but he died in traps with his compatriots - giving Cusp his penultimate level).

Went to the Twisted Rune to get the Staff of the Magi, though that wasn't done safely.  I wasn't sure if Layene had materialised or not during Cusp's initial time trap, so left her while finishing off the others - with the result that she would have had the opportunity to maze or imprison Cusp during her own time stop.  I also thought that Shangalar's death had been reported twice (him + mislead) from initial traps, but he appeared at near death after Layene's death and used his own time stop to move up to Cusp - as with Layene a hurried WW starting with Carsomyr made sure he couldn't complete any spells he might have been attempting.

Cusp hacked his way through a sea of vampires to a final confrontation with Bodhi.  Then he travelled back to Elhan via 2 ambushes - the first by some familiar faces.  Elhan has just opened up Suldanesselar, where Cusp will start his next session.

Cusp - swashbuckler L39, 143 HPs (incl. 13 from ioun stone, 12 from familiar), 1,149 kills

Corey_Russell/Dogdancing Multi-player No-Reload
Loqi - gnomish fighter/cleric, controlled by CR
Chunky - level 18 fighter > level 15 thief
Bait - permanently dead
Gum - permanently dead

So, the duo try to make some more progress. We went to the Oasis and summoned some friends and go to work - took us a while, but we did prevail.

We decided to pass on Amkethran, though we had to save Saemon and the priest. In Sendai's Enclave, Loqi summoned arieal servants. CR told Dogdancing to lay down some snares, but she got bored and killed the nearby deer - apparently that was the Woodman''s deer and triggered a fight before Loqi was ready! But fortunately hardiness/GWWs solved the drow. Loqi started using Yaga's Warhammer and Crom Faeyr off-hand and it has been working well - the duo badly needs the extra damage dealing.

We then pressed into the lair, again using summons to assist with Loqi tanking and Chunky using her firetooth dagger - this did in fact get rid of the enemies here, took a while again.

For the next fight to get the key, Loqi did massive buffs on the duo and Chunky, and this served the duo well, and the duo won this fight as well, without any casualty.

Loqi decided to enter the dwarven slave tunnel, and what a mess this turned out to be. Loqi did as many summon as he could, as did Chunky but the summons weren't enough help. The duo was doing OK at first, but then Loqi got surrounded and Chunky had no way at all to burn through all these enemies. Loqi was dying so he went invisible - with Chunky now having everyone's attention, she quickly died - however it was not in vain as now Loqi can get away and go after the Slave Master. See the massive # of slaves threatening us:
Posted Image
Loqi immediately went after the Slave Master and slew him - he went invisible once more, back tracked and found Chunky's equipment and looted it all using the right-click and using inventory screen. Then he ran past all the slaves and left them alone, just too many to deal with.

Once in the next area, Loqi retreated the pocket plane to resurrect Chunky, gave Chunky his/her stuff, and the duo decided to call it a night here.

Cusp - dwarf swashbuckler (hour 23)

Cusp made his way through Suldanesselar bumping off various golems, undead and rakshasas without much trouble.  For the dragon he kept moving at range, dodging insects, until Nizi moved forward into traps - the basic ones killed him before he got to a time trap.

Got to the Temple of Rillifane - and realised I hadn't got the moonblade.  Got to the temple again and moved on to the palace where, after picking some nuts, Cusp found himself on the Tree of Life.  He crushed some parasites and was transported next to Jon.  He immediately ran out of range and reached for his bow - which wasn't there!  I thought he must have dropped it when picking nuts and went back to the palace, but there was nothing there (possibly the move to the Tree actually creates a new area for the palace as well?).

Taking out Gesen from his pack instead Cusp made his way back on to the Tree and stalked Jon.  He was out of sight when Jon cast 2 time stops before showing himself more clearly.  Jon tried a few spells and then walked forward into a time trap.  Mislead was dispelled by Cusp's thief ability, but with PFMW and Absolute Immunity active Cusp still couldn't take advantage.

Cusp kept Jon chasing, although at one point he stopped and fired off another load of spells, including 3 PW:stuns in a row, but the delay only let Cusp do a bit of damage with Gesen.  Eventually Jon started chasing again ... into another time trap and this time there was no escape.

In hell Cusp kept his pride under control before doing the same with his fear (with the help of dragonslayer this time!).  However, he ended the session by giving rein to his evil side by sacrificing an innocent.

Cusp - swashbuckler L39, 143 HPs (incl. 13 from ioun stone, 12 from familiar), 1,194 kills

Zetran and his band of level 9 fighters/level 9 clerics - Update 5

Zetran and friends have made a lot of progress. We were able to solve the Druid Grove and D'Arnise Keep issues with the blackblood club used to kill the trolls. A warehouse in the bridge district was filled with an enemy party - we managed to silence the mage, and thus a relatively clean victory. We also exposed Reijek, though we couldn't catch him. The priest find traps spell was used so we only walked on one trap.

We uprooted the slavers in the moored ship - hold persons and silence once again making a difference - the sewer riddle was also solved, though since no one can use the nice sword, just had to sell it. We also stopped the murderers in the bridge district (the man in red, Tirdir's would-be murderers).

It was time for something more challenging. We went into the Temple Sewers, buffed to the max, had 5 skelly friends move forward and triggered the fight with Tarnor's gang. We tried silence x6, but that failed to shut down Gauis, though it did shut down the other casters of the group. The skeletons were dieing fast, but we used the time to try some dooms plus hold persons, which were only partially successful. As our skeletons were dying, we tried to replace them with more, but not in time and the party got targeted by Gaius. This proved unfortunate for Anomen as he was killed by finger of death. By then though, skeletons, had been replenished, and we tried some more hold persons, but eventually we had to use our slings. This worked well, and Gaius wasn't able to kill anyone else - he was the the last one to go down though. The armor upgrades were welcome, everyone has full plate now.

The party is now considering their next move...

Cusp - dwarf swashbuckler (hour 24)

A full day's play has seen Cusp through SoA and ready for the final push ...

He duly killed the genie, cashed in his tears and brutalized Sarevok.  After laying a few traps he then called Jon out to play.  A time trap triggered immediately allowing Cusp to kill both balors with a Blackrazor WW.  A second time trap swiftly followed and both the glabrezu went down along with a slayer mislead - but Jon was still invisible so avoided any attacks at that point.

Jon decided that he needed a change of scenery and jumped ... into a third time trap.  His chain contingency mislead protected him and Cusp couldn't dispel that quick enough to him off.  Gesen hit Jon once, before Cusp faded out to wait for a PfMW to expire.  He then threw in a Gesen WW causing another spell failure and for Jon to chase ... into the last of the 4 time traps that were originally set.  Cusp did over 400 HP damage during that, which should have comfortably finished Jon off.  However, it looked like the continual damage and/or the time trap meant his death conversation didn't trigger, so Jon just stood there afterwards doing nothing.  Attacking and talking didn't help and it wasn't possible to rest or save the game.

Reluctantly, I reloaded and did the fight again.  This time I didn't bother with time traps after the demons were dead and tried using Gesen, but couldn't do damage quite quick enough to overcome regeneration even with WWs.  A full complement of standard traps did the trick though and Jon was sent to his eternal rest in the fire.

The time trap was back in use for Illasera and Cusp moved into his new pocket plane.  I was aiming to do the first challenge without any support or buffs, but Cusp was being hit regularly by Ellisime's missile attacks and I did summon a couple of allies at the end to help occupy her.  Having spent the entire combat dodging a creeping doom, Cusp was caught by it during the cut scene at the end - but it didn't do enough damage to need any curing.

That was an hour's play.  I could have added in 10 minutes for the redone fight with Irenicus, but decided that would make a good place to break anyway.

Cusp - swashbuckler L39, 158 HPs (incl. 13 from ioun stone, 12 from familiar), 1,232 kills
He's just a whisker now below the level cap.

Hi all,

Sorry for going a bit off topic, but if any of you are interested in the BGII:EE beta test, feel free to send me a PM.

Specifically, we want people who are intricately familiar with the original game and who also have advanced tactical skills. Naturally, the first people who came to mind are the no-reload thread participants. :)

@avenger_: I guess you didn't hear of the change - you can only send PMs to those in your friends list. But I'd be interested in a BG2:EE Beta Test.

@Grond0: Grats on getting through SoA - hope you can keep the focus for ToB.

Zetran and his band of level 9 fighter/level 9 clerics - Update 6

Zetran has found a secret place in the sewers. Initially was guarded by mephits, but these were of little problem. Hanna did sanctuary and found a powerful-looking mage (Mekrath) - she sent skeletons, one at a time, to deal with him. The skeletons didn't win, but they did empty the mage of spells - then Hanna gladly took out Mekrath with her club. We found a rod of resurrection nearby, this was immediately identified.

Next group was some lizard creatures and a Yuan-ti mage - we tried to send a few skeletons to draw spells as as well - this eventually lured all the enemies but one mage - we then buffed our mage killer, Melissa, and she charged the mage and took it out. Since Melissa has the most HP of the group (unsurprising with her 19 CON) we had her set off the traps to get the planar gem.  Her save vs. spells is 4.

Time for the Planar Sphere itself. While we didn't put on maximum buffs, we certainly did max buffs on Zetran - corey_russell knows the mage in here likes to cast disintegrate. We commence the fight and do real well in fact - Melissa keeps the mage busy and does in fact save vs. disintegrate. The mage is last to fall.

For the next group, we send skeletons one at a time again, and this lures melees one at a time, which we take out. Finally, we buff Melissa and she takes out the last mage - while buffs are running, she also goes into the gaping maw and fights lots of Githyanki and she does well, though she needs help looting.

Finally, time to deal with master of thralls. I make sure Hanna and Melissa had stun/hold protection and everyone using +2 bullets and we attacked - success! Though we did have to gulp quite a few extra healing potions...

We then refreshed our skeletons, and then charged the Warden - he couldn't get any important spells off and he fell - we loot and then clear the place, with Raelis Shai's help.

Since we had the money, we went ahead and got the charm helmet and boots of grounding from a Temple, and also paid off Gaelen Bayle. The +2 ring went to Zetran, since he needs the save help.

The party will probably work on some Temple tasks next session.

Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 26 {2} - (update 11)
Stiel, halfling assassin (Grond0) & Andal, halfling bounty hunter (Gate70)

The halfling thieves are chasing Cusp hard and have also graduated into ToB during the course of a couple of productive sessions today.

The session started with giving Kruin his desired sword to avoid potential bug problems.  After sorting out equipment they forged the Equalizer and the Wave, but failed to find the bow shaft for Gesen.  Investigating in the Bridge District they found some Rune Assassins, but they didn't last long.  However, the containers in the house were empty and Gate70 reminded me that we had actually killed the Rune Assassins before (at the cost of a death for Andal)!

We spent a while investigating places we had been. One of those was Windspear where a bit of unfinished business was concluded by trapping Firkraag (no problem now our traps do poison rather than fire damage).  Finally the missing bow shaft was located in Watcher's Keep.

A few other goodies were at the Keep - in particular some human flesh and that meant the next destination was Umar Hills.  There was a strange moment there when trying to get the flesh armour forged and Stiel apparently chose the wrong name for Darcin Cole even though I didn't think I had clicked on anything.  In single player I would probably have just accepted that, but we agreed to treat it as a bug and reload.  That decision seemed to be vindicated when going into the conversation again I was very careful to do nothing to choose an option, but again an incorrect one was automatically selected (somehow a command was obviously being stored in a buffer).  After another reload we were successful in getting the armour and punishing the mages that tried to grab it.

During the session there were quite a few occasions when our views seemed to differ.  Here was one in Umar when Stiel had carefully rested in order to avoid the shopkeepers from interfering with the battle.  Andal protested that they were still there, but after testing accepted that though he could talk the phantom shopkeepers would not respond.

Back in the City there was one final target item on offer at the Twisted Rune.  Shangalar followed the duo, but only into a nest of traps.  Stiel was then a bit slow moving and got drained by Shyressa, but equipping the Amulet of Power allowed her to be finished off.  A succession of poison darts saw the end of Vaxall and Revanek before Layene fell into a maze.  Stiel had put down a time trap to deal with her when she returned, but Layene expired first from a single trap by Andal - what a weedy specimen she is!

It was time then for fun at the vampire guild.  Lots of running round corners, hiding and backstabbing dealt with the vampires upstairs at the cost of 1 draining strike on Andal.  Downstairs I thought this assassination signalled Bodhi's death, but she fought on long enough to drain Andal before exploding in a backstab.  The duo then forged Gesen and the red dragon armour and reported to Elhan.

In Suldanesselar there was plenty of use of maze traps.  That meant progress was relatively slow as the golems took quite a while to come back again.  On one occasion Andal wouldn't accept that a golem had disappeared and kept hacking away without effect until Stiel finally managed to convince him there was nothing there.

On arrival at Nizi we were relatively short of traps and only managed to get him to badly injured with the remaining damage traps.  Andal would have been able to finish him off with a time-trap assassination, but Nizi had sneaked in a stoneskin to save himself.  That persuaded Stiel to open up his time-trap assault with a blow from Carsomyr and a few follow-ups proved enough.

There were a couple of nasty moments though.  On this occasion Andal was trapped by golems, but was able to wriggle clear by equipping the Staff of the Magi (and becoming invisible).  That only threatened his life, but not the run.  However, in fighting at the temple there was a more serious threat.  The plan there was for Andal to go to one side of the room and use maze traps, but he was spotted early on.  Stiel tried to collect up the opposition to free up space, but allowed the mage to get too close (despite being warned of the threat of maze by Andal) and disappeared.  Fortunately, he had both the demon and the mage with him and Andal was able to disappear with his staff.  From that point things were easy as the opposition were mazed and then trapped as they popped back one by one.

My single player experience at the tree of life has been that traps don't normally work against Irenicus as his buffs go up quickly enough to protect him.  However, they didn't do here and the fight ended not with a bang, but a whimper (alright then, it was a pretty loud whimper).

Following into hell Stiel talked to a dragon to pick up the Pride tear peacefully.  Next the duo went after Blackrazor, but tried to get it without killing the genie.  Initially Stiel gave the genie the sword and then tried to pickpocket it back - Andal succeeded in the attempt, but found nothing on the genie.  Just for fun we loaded the autosave and tried pickpocketing the tear from the genie, but again his pockets were empty (ussnorway doesn't use the fixpack, which is presumably why this worked for him).

Moving on without Blackrazor Stiel absentmindedly started wandering through the wrong set of doors, while Andal struggled hard to shout a warning while held.  At the last moment Stiel was persuaded that his compatriot was about to die and went back the other way.

After cashing in his tears Stiel fronted up to Sarevok and let his sword flail around ineffectively.  It was taking a while to do him damage in melee though so Andal still did a maze / trap combination before following up with a couple of backstabs.

On to the final fight with Irenicus.  Some pre-laid traps accounted for the demons and a maze / trap combination got the slayer to near death.  However, it was stubbornly hanging on and, with no more traps available we were keen to finish it off quickly to avoid it regenerating.  Andal thought he had the answer, but his timestop assassination attempt bounced off a sneaky stoneskin.  Learning from that experience Stiel opened his time-trap with a whack from Carsomyr and a few more hits proved enough.

There was just time in the session to move on to the opening of ToB.  Ilasera was supported by some Black Reavers, but they proved unable to help her against a maze / trap combination.

Stats:
Stiel, assassin L30, 138 HPs (incl. 11 from ioun stone, 12 from familiar), 700 kills
Andal, bounty hunter  L30, 104 HPs, 629 kills, 7 deaths

Cusp - dwarf swashbuckler (hour 25)

After wasting a couple of minutes wondering which was my last save I eventually worked out Cusp was in ToB now (normally I realise the problem immediately, but I'm obviously slow first thing in the morning).

Arriving in Saradush I was still a bit dozy and wasted an opening WW by having the scarlet ninja-to equipped.  However, Cusp still beat the guards easily enough (getting his final level in the process).

After resurrecting a father, Cusp arranged for sanctuary for some elves.  Then he restored Lazurus's spellbook (bored with good deeds, he had a laugh at Hectan dashing himself to pieces against a magical barrier).  After buying a few scrolls Cusp briefly retreated to the pocket plane to get the cloak of improved protection made up.  He also bought another bag of holding - transferring the contents of several scroll cases and a gem bag into that to free up lots of inventory space.

Sorting equipment out took a while to do though, so the last action of a slow session was following a courtesan into the prison and making a group of vampires realise they had bitten off more than they could suck.

Cusp - swashbuckler L40, 160 HPs (incl. 13 from ioun stone, 12 from familiar), 1,234 kills
