Harm followed by GWW!

Nasty. There's always something to learn about this game I guess. Am sorry for the loss, it was a heroic effort.

The duo will go back to Candlekeep and start new characters.

Good luck to them.

Thanks! It was a heroic effort, actually - we averted Loqi's death many times. Dogdancing's characters got chunked twice (and thus we re-rolled them - we did NOT change the starting experience), which were huge setbacks - her character helped so little in the last legs - good thing Loqi was so powerful.

We've decided our next run will be a berserker and fighter/thief duo.

Interesting stat about Loqi's run - he got 907 kills and 98% of the kills of the party.

Another sad news about your runs this morning, Corey...
But I just can't understand how cleric/mage Sendai could get access to GWW...

Anyway, that was indeed a great run! I'm looking forward to see your next duo incarnations.

Sorry to hear that Corey, but a valiant effort to beat the odds to get that far.

Are you certain she's cleric//mage? Perhaps she's a F/M/C. I suppose the other possibility is she did improved haste.

Yep, I'm pretty sure that *real* Sendai (not her statues) is Cleric/Mage. Here are her charsheet in my install:

Even though her spells picks could be different in vanilla I'm sure her class doesn't change by any mod.

Sorry to hear that Corey, she almost did exactly the same to Stiel - who used the Monty Python tactic outlined below to survive.

Bravely bold Sir Robin
Rode forth from Camelot
He was not afraid to die
Oh Brave Sir Robin
He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways
Brave, Brave, Brave Brave Sir Robin.

He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp
Or to have his eyes gouged out, and his elbows broken
To have his kneecaps split and his body burned away
And his limbs all hacked and mangled, Brave Sir Robin.

His head smashed in and his heart cut out
And his liver removed and his bowels unplugged
And his nostrils raped and his bottom burned up
And his penis...(made to stop by Robin)

Brave Sir Robin ran away.
Bravely ran away, away.
When danger rears it's ugly head
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes Brave Sir Robin turned about
He gallantly chickened out.

Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat.
Oh bravest of the brave, Sir Robin.

The likes of Sendai can often claim an easy kill where even if you know their tactics the length of time between visits can result in a "oh yeah, forgot that" situation. Ones I try to remember are Melissan, Balthazar, Abazigal, Draconis, Sendai, Pocket Plane challenges. Oh and the effing rest of ToB really.

Oh, is that all? I try to remember the imprisonment by Elder Orbs in Beholder Lair and hell tear, hold persons at Copper Coronet, distintegrate by both Gaius and Planar Prison initial battle, finger of death from Rayic, and so on. Lots to remember - the silly thing I know she did harm, but I thought I would get a chance to RoR (like Picenon did), I didn't know she could kill me instantly with it - she used Improved Haste I think too.

That also sounds like the beginning of a Monty Python sketch - when I were a lad the beholders were really dangerous ...

Tlaloc - wild mage (update 1)

Tlaloc's made it through the dungeon, though with a couple of unnecessary dangerous moments.  First he had to save against a colour spray from a radiant mephit and second this lightning trap went through his mirrors (for the spike traps I'd buffed with vampiric touch, but not for that one, so I think it might have been able to kill him).  Ulvaryl managed to flap off in bat form this time.

Interestingly, Tlaloc's sex changed during the dungeon, but on exit I see his character record has been reset to male - maybe he's just one of those elves definitely not in touch with his feminine side.

Tlaloc - wild mage (update 2)

Tlaloc's got rid of the Cowled Wizard annoyance, although again not entirely safely.  He'd just destroyed one set of Enforcers and cast invisibility on the quasit in preparation for resting.  Normally there is a small gap after one lot of Enforcers before another responds, but in this case the highest members of the order teleported in before Tlaloc could get out of sight.  Fortunately, Zallanora used a time stop rather than an immediate wilting allowing Tlaloc to get away and rest.

He killed the other Enforcers, but Zallanora (as last time) survived cloudkills and disappeared into the ether with a dimension door.

At least now Tlaloc has one less thing to worry about when casting spells ... Image IPB

Tlaloc - wild mage (update 3)

Done the circus, though saw afterwards Tlaloc had not handed back the ogre's sword - Aerie appeared to have no need of it anyway.

Bought some spells and then went to the Copper Coronet.  Lehtinan hit Hendak twice for a total of 18 HPs and I was concerned he might win, but Hendak triumphed in the end with a bit of help from the quasit.  On through the sewers to rescue some slaves.  For the acid trap, vampiric touch and Larloch's got him to 78, which I decided to risk - his mirrors worked that time anyway.  There were a couple of occasions when I risked using spells in dangerous proximity to enemies, but no surges resulted on them.

Then Tlaloc travelled around for a bit until the Suna Seni, Renfeld & orog ambushes had triggered.  With a decent amount of cash, despite losing bits twice to surges, he bought back wands of monster summoning, fire and cloudkill (that will release quite a few spell slots for other purposes) and added potion and ammo containers to his gem bag and scroll case.  Returning a teddy bear has just got Tlaloc to L12.  He'll just look for a couple of decent L6 spells before continuing his progress.

Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 26 {2} - (update 18)
Stiel, halfling assassin (Grond0) & Andal, halfling bounty hunter (Gate70)

The long and winding road is coming towards its end for the deadly duo with onlyImage IPB Melissan to come.

For the 4th pocket plane challenge Andal put on some boots and Stiel some armour that protected against backstabs.  That probably gave too much of a sense of comfort with Stiel just standing still slugging it out against the favoured of Cyric - until he had to cut and run and call for Andal to drop a napalmmaze trap to finish the last 2 off.

Saemon guided us into Balthazar's compound - and an ambush.  Stiel kept the enemies moving around until maze sorted them out.  Inside the palace Stiel laid 3 spike traps before going to talk to Balthazar.  Andal dragged the nearest monk out of the way, leaving Balthazar to follow Stiel into the traps ... and die.  However, he was not done yet as the game hung, requiring a reload.  We set this battle up to be identical, so Balthazar again followed into 3 spike traps ... and died.  This time his pleas to make it a 3 out of 5 game were ignored by the dungeon master in the sky.

The 5th pocket plane challenge took a while.  An initial attempt at maze saw the bone blades disappear, but start coming back after only 1 round.  It's possible that might still have been long enough to drag the Ravager into some pre-set traps, but the duo settled for a missile based combat.  With only 1 +4 missile weapon between them (Gesen - surprisingly the Big Metal Rod was not big enough), Andal took the reflection shield and tried to occupy the enemies while Stiel sniped from the sidelines.  The Ravager regularly switched targets so Stiel ended up taking about 10 healing potions during the combat and still did less damage than Andal did with his shield.  However, there were no real problems and the Ravager eventually collapsed leaving the way to Melissan open.

Stats:
Stiel, assassin L39, 158 HPs (incl. 13 from ioun stone, 12 from familiar), 1,054 kills
Andal, bounty hunter L39, 152 HPs (incl. 15 from bracers, 15 from ioun stone), 759 kills, 10 deaths

Gate70/Grond0 Multiplayer attempt 26 {2} - (19th and final update)
Stiel, halfling assassin (Grond0) & Andal, halfling bounty hunter (Gate70)

Regrettably, the thieves failed in their attempt to steal the secret to immortality.

I hadn't appreciated that Melissan was immune to dispel, so wasted time initially in using Carsomyr.  Eventually, her first incarnation settled down to her throwing missiles that bounced back off Stiel's shield, while Andal kept the summons busy.  That routine kept going long enough for her to kill herself.

The elementals were separated and meleed, with Yan-C-bin being Crimson Darted.

Only a limited number of traps were set for Melissan's second incarnation and they bounced off her stoneskin.  She started off with a few missiles, but soon ran out of those meaning different tactics were required.  Stiel tried to use the Big Metal Rod (which did damage through the stone skins with pulse ammunition) and several times had her badly injured or near death - only for her to heal herself.  Without great hopes Stiel tried time stop and assassination, but Melissan was immune to both.  The best prospect seemed to be use of traps and twice clusters of traps were laid while Andal mazed her summons (Mel was immune).  However, she was difficult to get to chase and wouldn't be drawn into them before the summons reappeared (though with practice I think that could probably be done by one character remaining at the maze point).  The second time she was tantalizingly close to triggering the traps and Stiel obviously hung around her a bit too closely trying to get her to move the last little bit - he went from around 80 HPs to dead before I noticed he had been hit.
Image IPB

Loading a save a couple of times we concluded we should have used the FoA as a starting weapon.  Although she's immune to the elemental damage, the slow effect in conjunction with shooting pulse ammunition seemed to have a reasonable chance of interrupting her heal spells.  Also, laying a full cluster of traps at the start was a way to eliminate stoneskin and give at least some chance of finishing an incarnation off before she got properly going.

Condolences guys - a fantastic and educational run, nevertheless. FYI: if a non-PC has spike traps (say 7 of them), Ravager is very easy - you have the PC wait by the portal and then the non-PC player lays the 7 spike traps in the Ravager room - then the PC arrives, talks and Ravager dies. This is how it works in single player, anyways. I don't know if MP or fix pack changes this, but I thought I would share.

Tlaloc - wild mage (update 4)

Switching mindsets again, I did a bit more surging this morning.

Prebek and Sanasha's house was put in a state of chaos before Tlaloc looted the Harper HQ.

With the funds from that he bought some more scrolls for his spell book at the Bridge District.  Note that one of my aims for quite a while has been to get as complete a selection of spells known as possible.  A wild mage is best for that as they know the 2 chaos shield spells.  I'm not sure if it's possible to get both summon planetar and summon dark planetar (by changing alignment), but I've never completed all spells even up to that.  Perhaps this will be the run - so far I've got full selections at levels 1 and 2, but am still missing a few at levels 3-5 and quite a lot thereafter.

While in the area I decided to expose the skinner's grisly work.  To do that I set up some summons (note the variable spell level for a wild mage means there's a chance of a skeleton warrior prior to 15th level), buffed and then dragged the opponents upstairs.

Then decided that Nalia had waited long enough and headed for the de'Arnise hold.  No particular problems there - skeleton warriors helping out with the nastier enemies.  However, I returned twice to the city to free up inventory and sold things rather than storing them; I realised that was a gamble and this multi-surge ensured it didn't pay off!

Letting Nalia know the fate of her father got Tlaloc to L13.

Your cash gone, told to shut up and made to feel less than human elf. Still, at least you've got that pretty sparkly Istone 5 as consolation...

Tlaloc - wild mage (update 5)

Choosing to continue working with trolls Tlaloc made his way to Trademeet.  He used some summons to make bumping the genies off easy before moving on to the Druid Grove.  The only problem there was that his skeletons could not hurt the rakshasas, so Tlaloc just ran away there.  As usual I let Cernd have a little snack on his own (3 bites and Faldorn was gone).

The rewards allowed Tlaloc to buy the Cloak of Displacement and Belt of Inertial Barrier, along with a few more unknown 6th level spells.  He then helped Tiris and cleared the tomb (starting with the genie as a summons to guard against the possibility of nasty surges).

Back in the city Tlaloc was a couple of thousand short of funds to buy the Robe of Vecna so went to ask Mencar for a loan.  He survived webbed cloudkills and took a bit more persuading, but coughed up the funds in the end.

In the Bridge District Tlaloc went to see if he could be more successful than his predecessor at getting the berserker horn - he could.  He moved on to try cloudkill tactics on the Mercenaries of Riatvin, but a pathfinding error meant he got affected by his own stinking cloud - triggering his contingency for the first time.  He used his invisibility ring to disappear and regroup before trying again - more successfully this time.
