Somewhat to my surprise Drizzt, Wulfgar and Regis remained with the party incarcerated in the dungeon. Let Wulfgar go and recruited Minsc (both have muscles, but there's only one Boo) and Jaheira. Annoyingly Drizzt is unable to equip a scimitar (though he can use other swords) or dual wield - something to do with his swords being taken away in the ambush, although classed as undroppable, I think.
Completed the dungeon and, after a rest, took on the party in the next door inn. In the first run-through that battle went according to plan, but the game crashed and a somewhat hasty re-run saw the thief escape with his ring. Just relieved the circus of some surplus acts; next stop the slums.

I had been keeping the web page open with a running commentary on actions, but a power cut has just put paid to that! So in summary:
- done some shopping
- cleared the Copper Coronet
- returned Renfeld and completed Xzar's quest - not to his liking of course
- finished off the slavers in the slums
- took over De'Arnise Hold (those spirit trolls are still a pain, but only Nalia was killed this time through)

Killed the wolfweres again by stranding them in the doorway, the greater wolfwere was pretty hard du to the fast regeneration rate.. Admantine golem could not even run through the doorway and died after getting hit by azuredge two dozen times or so. I probably should have bought the crossbow before comming here because of that... Tazok and chief digdag weren't much of a problem when they were slowed, though they did chew through a few healing potions. Inquisitor really mauls solo mages, conster was no different, he cast a hold person and a ruby ray of reversal as his only spells targeting me, not very well spent... Mantle did not stop the speaking sword from taking his head. Not going to kill Firkaag yet because i heard there was some bug with the paladin stronghold, and i am not sure if the fixpack fixed that.

By reading the rules, it says that if a bug or glitch causes you to have to reload that is acceptable, but i do not know if this warrant it as the game is still very much completable, although it does lessen my enjoyment of the game...

I still can't manage to take screenshots for some reason but Ajani is now on his way through irenicus' dungeon. 2* in crossbow, two handed sword and two handed style. Starts 18/00, 18, 18, 11, 13, 18. If anyone know why I only get whatever is behind the game when i try to take screenshots instead of ingame it would be nice to know. On windows 7 64 bit. Gave Ajani a bag of holding as i did not feel like doing inventory management, also turned down difficulty for charactergeneration and ended at 108 max HP. Oh yeah is it allowed to turn off Gore?
Also Jan vs Imoen, isn't your sister a better 3rd wheel than some random gnome? I have not actually completed the Aerie romance before so I don't actually know...
As for daystar, getting that very early on a non-reload seems rather risky, though i suppose it would just cost one protection from undead scroll... Also turn undead will not be so high since i plan to do this quest as one of the first ones...
Also why is there a mind shield icon on my character? Because he is protected from hold and charm?
If your paladin is an undead hunter he is immune to hold so that might be why (about the mind shield icon). To take screenshots do ALT + prnt scrn key, then go to a graphics program (like microsoft paint) and click Edit > Paste. Now save then upload to a web site like photobucket and from there photobucket will give you links you can copy to your post.
Yes you can turn off gore.
Imoen is the better mage, but Jan is the better thief.
Getting the Daystar early is actually not as hard as you think. Have a cleric cast in succession Holy power (4th level spell) + Righteous Magic (6th level spell) + draw upon holy might (2nd level spell). STR should be 25. I always forget if it's supposed to be holy power 1st or 2nd so try those two reversed if not 25. DUHM is always the last spell of these 3. If so, then cast sanctuary. He can bash the door in, bash the chest and take the daystar without the Lich ever noticing him.
Later on you asked what is the cheapeast way to reverse level drain? Having a few restoration scrolls on hand is a good idea but the cheapeast way is to have a cleric cast the 4th level spell lesser restoration.

You're seeing something that obviously isn't intended, so I'm sure no one would mind. After all, the only difference between a game breaking bug and a merely annoying bug is the precise section of wrong code.
Good luck with your inquisitor btw. first class I soloed the game with, and still a favorite.

If it is only Daystar you want, you don't need to fight at all if you have a thief.
Get him/her to unlock the door. Get haste cast on him and then hide in shadows.
This for some reason is easier done upstairs.
Go to the chest in the secret room, unlock it, take the sword, and run.
The lich will still be casting defensive spells by the time you exit.
Exit the inn just in case the lich decides to follow you. (It won't if your thief has moved quickly)
I once made the mistake of not having an empty slot in the inventory and had to leave something else behind.

Coremonk, Human Monk, Lawful Good
STR 18 DEX 18 CON 18 INT 16 WIS 10 CHA 3
I waited a while to submit this challenge. I know how sqishy monks are in the early going. However he's made some good progress, so here is the submission. Incidents of note:
* Dealing with the Beastmaster and his pets to get the key to free Hendak the slaves was much harder than usual. Viconia and Minsc died (though not chunked). We couldn't carry their stuff either (party too weak). Fortunately, there is a temple on top of the Coronet. We used that and then picked up our stuff and other loot.
* We tried going to Watcher's Keep to buy a potion bag from the merchant but they said we were too low level - drats. Will have to come back later.
* We successfully cleared D'Arnise Keep for Nalia. No one died. We are using level 5 slots for Iron skins for Jaheira. This came quite handly against Torgal. Viconia has a raise dead memorized.
* We purchased stone to flesh scrolls (which Coremonk carries with him) and cast protection from petrification on Coremonk and engaged the Dao Genies. Battle lasted a while but no one got petrified. I prefer doing the quest this way (rather than getting the rakshaka head) because then I get immediate access to that vendor that has cloak of displacement and Tasheron's bow, and Blackblood club. I got the club for Jaheira, bow for Nalia, and cloak for Coremonk. Also talked to guildmistress and got reward of shield of harmony for Jaheira.
* Both Renal Bloodscalp's and Maevar's guild robbed blind by Jan. Thieves might be good at breaking security, but apparently not so good at maintaining it.
* Jaheira got cursed. We killed Baron Ployer and his hired goons and picked up her lock of hair to break it. We got a Mordy's spell scroll so this was quite helpful. Of course, before doing the fight made sure Coremonk was protected to the gills, last thing I need is something like finger of death ending his run.
* Did the Lilacor's quest for Minsc. The only really dangerous part of this quest is the initial goblins who have a high level caster that likes to cast stun (symbol: stun maybe?). But with 5 hasted skeletons engaging and drawing out the bad spells first, then the party moved in after waiting a little bit and mopped up.
* Battled the slavers via the entrance from the Sewers. Minsc threw an entangle at the group of the enemies by the stairs, Nalia threw a cloudkill same general area, Jan threw a chaos at the nearest enemy, Jaheira cast a Nymph, Viconia cast a glyph ward and Coremonk engaged the Captain in hand-to-hand combat. Was a clean win. The other big group of slavers, while out of sight cast entange/web/cloudkill/fireball and then attacked from range. That was a clean win as well (e.g. no deaths of party members).
Party is in middle of Maevar's quests at the moment. We took down Rayic Gethras pretty easily. As usual, when dealing with mages, made sure Coremonk was protected from instant death things like finger of death and petrification. A well timed breach plus Jan using his detect illusions skill continuously made Rayic fall quickly. The only thing dangerous he got off was a fireball.

We went to watcher's keep and with some difficulty cleared the first level.
On the second level Amber got surrounded by the enemy and got killed.
We exited and after sleeping, raised her ready to return.

- defeated the lich at the city gates by waiting until his protections wore off and then swamping him quickly
- solved the skinner murders
- tracked down and rescued Boo from some heinous hamster dealers
- made Ployer curse his luck
- did some errands for Drini, but gave Chwisgi to a lady in need and can't find her again (anyone know if doing that prevents you completing this quest?)
- ended Mae'vars reign of terror and instituted more enlightened policies in the thieves guild.; foiled his revenge from beyond the grave
Minsc is keen to help a boy with troubles in the Umar Hills, so we might head there next.
Edit: cleaned out the problems at the Umar Hills. The Shade Lord was hard to damage as he seemed to have both mantle and protection from magic weapons up at the same time (I thought these spells were incompatible). Attacked for a while thinking the spells would run out, but they were immediately renewed; also lost Jaheira to a Finger of Death spell so the party retreated into the dragon's lair to wait for spells to run out before emerging to beat him up.
Back in the city visited the graveyard - found a home for a lost girl, saved the selfish nephew and tracked down the group responsible for illicit burials. Also found illithium for the temple (and kept some for future use) and attended Nalia's father's funeral.
Edit 2: killing the eyeless one reflected well on me (thanks Balduran). Also killed the group in the sewers (first use of simulacrum helm) and rescued Haer'Dalis. Finally completed the Gibberlings anniversary quest. After ending my run here last time, this time took the precaution of using a scroll of magic protection for Caddy. Two characters killed and Minsc left hanging on by his fingertips thanks to a late potion of invisibility.
Not much to my surprise Nalia found herself arrested, but it didn't take long to rescue her and leave Isaea cursing. I think the next stop might be a spot of dragon hunting.

Coremonk and company were clearing the lower crypts, when somehow Coremonk got in front and got poisoned. Viconia cured him once but then he got poisoned again. I told him to use the andidote potion but he wouldn't for some reason. Viconia was out of cure poisons, Coremonk fell to the spiders.
Re-rolling a new character.

They are, but not until 11th level, so may have needed to do a bit more work before taking on the spiders. But I thought monks were immune to poison?
Caddy's Calendar
- did a bit more work for the church and was granted quarters there.
- picked up a rather odd ransom
- took Haer' Dalis gem back and journeyed after him to the planar prison. Encountered first real problem here when running from the warden and finding the party attacked on both sides by yuan-ti mages. Jaheira was stoned and there was no-one free to help her out before a sun-fire scattered her in little pieces all over the prison. Unfortunately she took rather a lot of nice equipment with her - the sling +5 will be particularly missed.
- Went on a mission of mercy and was shocked to find out that we were actually dealing with a dragon
- On the way back to the city stopped off at the temple ruins to ruin another dragon's day. Although the party hadn't rested and were thus short on summons, the shadow dragon also went down easily.
- Back at the city decided the boys were ready for the big league and took on Kangaxx. I hadn't fought him for real before, but tales of his magic ring were too tempting to resist. Things were looking iffy as character after character disappeared into thin air, but Caddy stuck to his guns. Once on his own he took advantage of his monk's ability to play hide and seek up and down the stairs. Things looked bleak when it seemed he didn't have a weapon that would hit the lich, but finally found the daystar would do the job. The battle still took hours (literally) as, even with storm giant strength, a hit only did 2-3 damage and Kangaxx was regenerating almost as fast as he took damage. However, eventually it was done. Four of his companions were freed (quick trip to get Aerie), but Haer'Dalis appeared to have been chunked during the battle - probably by the stacked ADHW attack as he wasn't protected against magic energy. On the few occasions I've had him in the party he always seems to get killed quickly; maybe I need to coddle him rather more.
Next stop probably to go to Trademeet. I had been thinking of recruiting Viconia to replace Jaheira, but might see how Aerie gets on for a while.

Oberon : Sorcerer
12 Str, 19 Dex, 16 Con, 16 Int, 10 Wis, 10 Cha
Starting Spell List
Lvl 1: Magic Missile, Blindness, Spook, Identify, Grease
Lvl 2: Mirror Image, Acid Arrow, Glitterdust
Lvl 3: Skull Trap, Slow
After being freed by Imoen, the pair step into a side room to equip themselves, leaving minsc and Jaheira to stay in their cells. Imoen's disarming of the painting trap boosts Oberon to level 8 and he picks his first level 4 spell:
Lvl 4: Polymorph Self
Using up her pre-memorised spells Imoen wipes out all the monsters up to the jailkeep golem room without taking any damage before the pair rest to replenish Oberon's spellbook and update imoen's, replacing strength for Mirror Image and swapping lightning and monster summon 1 for fireballs.
After killing some more mephitis and switching Imoen to a short bow the pair come to the small room with two lesser clay golems. To defeat the two lesser clay golems Oberon polymorphs into a mustard jelly for 60% crushing resistance and casts mirror image just to be safe. With imoen's help they fall fairly quickly so Oberon uses the remaining time on the polymorph self spell to kill the next two groups of goblins whilst imoen immobilises them with web and stinking cloud.
For the more deadly next group of goblins and mephitis in the library Imoen plays bait this time with her Minor Globe of Invulnerability up whilst Oberon shoots skull traps at her. Illych and his band of thugs are then killed by carelessly unloading most of their remaining spells into them with Oberon's last polymorph, Draw upon holy might and mirror image being used to kill the cambion in black bear form with 4/apr at 15 THACO.
The air room and mephit portals on level 2 were a cake walk with the first beaten by Imoen tanking with Minor Globe of Invulnerability whilst Oberon shoots skull traps and the second by Oberon tanking as a mustard jelly whilst imoen and a bunch of kobold commando's from summon monsters 1 shot arrows at the portals. In the course of these fights Imoen and Oberon both grew to lvl 9 giving Imoen her first lvl 5 slot (Chaos for now) and letting Oberon pick up the spells:
Lvl 2: Web
Lvl 3: Spell Thrust
Lvl 4: Spider Spawn
With Oberon now lvl 9 none of the remaining battles in Chataeu Irenicus were even remotely difficult. Even got the 8000 for killing Ulvaryl.
-------------------------------------- Chapter 2 -----------------------------
After Immy got taken away Oberon did some shopping before stopping at the Inn to murder Mencar Pebblecrusher and his bunch of flunkies by throwing some webs into the room, tossing in a skull trap and then letting 5 phase spiders loose. It was a slaughter. I'd feel bad for him if it weren't for the fact that he's butchered me quite few times in the past with that 8 attacks/round of his. A few trips carting their gear back to the adventure mart and I'm sitting pretty on 9098 gold. Unfortunately My inventory is also almost full so I decide to recruit someone to help carry it all. Thus it's time to rescue Aerie from the circus but before I can get to her the genie on the bridge hands out a whopper load of xp and boosts me up to lvl 10 allowing me to select the level 5 spell: Spell Immunity.
Oberon's spellbook right now is:
Lvl 1: Magic Missile, Identify, Spook, Grease, Blindness
Lvl 2: Mirror Image, Acid Arrow, Glitterdust, Web
Lvl 3: Skull Trap, Slow, Spell Thrust
Lvl 4: Polymorph Self, Spider Spawn
Lvl 5: Spell Immunity
One quick battle with Oberon polymorphed into an Ogre later and I'm the proud companion of a really magnificent elf. That last level on the bridge before entering was really lucky because Aerie has 400,000 xp in BOTH classes compared to Oberon who only has 285,871 xp total. She's got over 500 000 xp more than Oberon
A short Ring of Human Influence + Friends spell shopping trip later and Aerie's spellbooks are:
Mage:
Lvl 1: 3xMagic Missile, Armour
Lvl 2: 2xMirror Image, Glitterdust, Melf's Acid Arrow
Lvl 3: Protection from Normal Missiles, Melf's Minute Meteors, Flame Arrow, Haste
Lvl 4: Stoneskin, Minor Globe of Invulnerability, Polymorph Self
Lvl 5: 2xProtection from Normal Weapons, Cloudkill
Priest:
Lvl 1: 2xSanctuary, 2xBless, Remove Fear, Doom
Lvl 2: 4xHold Person, Chant, Silence 15' Radius, Draw upon holy might
Lvl 3: 2xStrength of One, Summon Skeletal Warrior
Lvl 4: Cure Serious Wounds, Free Action
Lvl 5: True Sight
Now I'm off to the slums to make a deal with the shadow thieves.

Saved Trademeet from animal attacks and took over the management of the grove. Also sent some cheeky djinn packing. After a few errands in the city set off to pick up Valygar in order to open the sphere. Intended to drop Minsc only long enough to do this, but he took the hump and disappeared on the pretext he was looking for Boo (who was sitting in his backpack the whole time). Although this seems to clearly count as a bug, I'm not sufficiently attached to Minsc to do anything about it.
Tending to my strongholds it appears I'm about to get stuck in the middle of a religious war.

Why no 18 wis on your sorceror for the ability to use wish with abandon? Is it just not reliable enough for no reload? Some really interesting spellchoices there, do you have any mods? Glitterdust but no chromatic orb.
Wish isn't necessary on all sorc builds, although it's very powerful. This player may prefer to upgrade polymorph to Shapechange.
Chromatic Orb is very unreliable in no reload, and Glitterdust is awesome. I'm interested to know if there's a good use for Grease, though.

2) Chromatic Orb is a terrible, terrible spell. Blindness is basically save or die as well and doesn't suffer from the horrible +6 save penalty. I rarely use Chromatic orb when I have it because it's so hard to fail the save making it just a pathetic minor version of magic missile. Blindness actually works quite often and I've used it to win several minor fights so far.
3) No mods other than the fixpacks. I just started playing again after a long break so I decided I'd take it easy (well technically 'core rules' but you know what I mean.)
4) I agree, grease doesn't get much use but there's little else of interest at that level and I do occasionally toss it out to slow groups full of melee enemies. Now that I think about it, Shield would have been a better choice considering I haven't bothered taking Stoneskin.
Anyway, next adventure log:
After making the deal with Galean Bale(sp?) Oberon heads over to the copper coronet where he promptly wipes the floor with a man named Amalas in a pit fight by casting blindness on him and throwing darts at him. This was worth 1000xp for the kill and 9500xp for some other reason. I'd always just wailed on him before but if you get 9500xp from killing him in the pit then I think I'll be taking his offer more seriously in future games.
Considering this is a no-reload game It's probably a good idea if I get myself some muscle so Oberon promptly strikes up a conversation with Anomen and gets him to join the party, and sweet merciful jesus, he has even more XP than Aerie did, 900 000 cleric which puts him at level 12, and the 7 levels of fighter for an extra 64 000.
To take down the beastmaster Oberon summons a few phase spiders, has Aerie cast Strength of One to give them +2 to Hit and +3 damage and a protection from normal missiles on himself, then he starts the battle and immediately tosses out a skulltrap at the beastmaster. To help the spiders out he also casts slow on the monsters once they clump a bit more.
With the copper coronet under new management I swap around some spells now that Anomen is in the party. Anomen memorises true-sight instead of Aerie so that both of them can memorise one Champion's Strength and one of Aerie's Protection from Normal Weapons is swapped for a second cloudkill now that Anomen can cast 2 Aerial servants which are also immune to normal weapons.
Next I run some errands,
1) Buy a magic license in the government district.
2) Kill the crypt king in the graveyard but realise I don't have a thief to open any of the sarcophaguses so I leave the rest of the graveyard monsters for later.
3) Defeat suna seni by having anomen tank whilst Aerie and Oberon cast glitterdust before hurling 2 skull traps
4) Retrieved bear for ghost boy
5) Sold some stuff, (Namarra +2 from the crypt lord brought in 3000 gold
6) Killed Bregg and Cohrvale who attacked me outside of copper coronet.
7) Kill the muggers who attack you in the bridge district at night.
8) Hunt down the men who buried Tirdir alive to get Oberon some boots of Avoidance to go with his girdle of piercing.
9) Killed a bunch of adventurers in the sewers beneath the temple district. Web + Spider Spawn again. The only trouble was the mage who cast a Globe of Invulnerability but he didn't do anything but toss a few minor spells at my spiders. This battle gained me some really nice equipment including:
- An unenchanted full plate mail for Anomen so he can still wear rings/cloaks of protection.
- A full plate mail +1 for Anomen until I actually get a ring/cloak of protection for him.
- A scroll of protection from undead
- A helm of charm protection for Anomen.
- A small shield + 2 for Aerie
- A bunch of extra magic items i can sell.
10) Knowing a payday is coming when I sell the crap I got from the sewers adventuring party I stop by the temple of Lathander to buy Anomen some boots of grounding for the piddly price of 1224 gold incase I decide to shoot off the wand of lightning (Aerie and Oberon can protect themselves with polymorph and MGoI).
These errands push Aerie up to cleric level 10, netting her another level 4 and 5 spell (free action and mass cure for now) as well as push Oberon to level 11.
His picks for level 11 are:
Lvl 2: Invisibility
Lvl 3: Melf's Minute Meteors
Lvl 4: Minor Sequencer
Lvl 5: Spell Shield
I decide to sell Anomen's Full plate mail +1 as that puts me just over the 15000 lmit for the shadow thieves and Aran Linvail has a ring of protection +2 for him to go along with the amulet of power.
Thus begins chapter 3….
