Yeah, perhaps I was thinking of the wand of wonder; it's a nasty spell in any case.Serg BlackStrider wrote...
Sphere of Chaos doesn't have petrification effect (afaik), it has disintegration (Cassia permanently died via that back in the Ust Natha) and I don't think Pro vs Petrification will be useful in that case.
It's from Erephine's 1PP, (regular BG2 cloudkill and SI look horrible) I'm not using all of the components, because some add new items that I don't want.Sapphire_13 wrote...
One question for polytope: which mode are you using for different look of your spell effects (clouds, spell immunity, etc.). Thanks in advance.
@corey_russell, shame to see your Kensai die there, Rune Assasins are another frequent cause of early deaths. Good source of potions though if you kill them quick.
Aleks continued, Nalia hit level 14 during the fight with the fire creatures in the planar sphere. Found a second ring of regeneration in the ice room.
Lavok didn't appear to have protection from energy in his buffs, so interrupted his initial spell with the wand of frost (note that with ToBEx spell interruption isn't possible if the creature is immune to the damage type).

Discovered a bug here, relevant for other SCS players; Spell Shield (I'm using the "fixed" version) should vanish after the first spell protection remover, but Spell Thrust (in spite of description) does not work for this purpose whereas Secret Word does. So, the fight with Lavok took longer than it should have (and had to use the potion of superior healing from WK for Nalia due to wiltings), but he dimension doored after my party (we'd retreated from his sphere of chaos) and cast ProMW... bad idea, our three frontliners used potions of cold resitance and beat him into submission with normal weapons.
Now that I'm aware of this bug with ST and Spell Shield I suspect we won't be having such long and frustrating mage battles (as with Sion).
Demon hunting time! I wasn't sure what to expect from the demon plane with aVENGER's fiends, so overprepared, including use of some of the potions of clarity and freedom found on the feral halflings (didn't have my cleric levels back yet) and 3 x improved haste.
First up, a glabrezu. He didn't manage to do much except dispel our illusion buffs (I'm sure this guy summons a bunch of mephits usually).
Next, off to the west, a marilith and some ghoulish things.

The marilith damaged Aleks quite badly, a nabassu also wandered over from further in the crater, you can respond to him with one of the dumbest dialogue options I've ever seen, perfected if rp'ing a PC with 3 intelligence.

This nabassu summoned another nabassu and three cambions (who caste haste on the demons and slow on my party - those potions of freedom were worth it). Not really a hard fight, but might have been trouble if we weren't buffed.
I found a helm of brilliance and a strange wardstone on the marilith, also, we have too much junk, begining to wish I took the option of a bag of holding.
Aleks got to level 12 after carrying the dying Lavok from the sphere regaining his cleric abilities and putting a star in maces (specialized now, and using skullcrusher in the offhand).
As I thought, the priest of Lathander -> fighter is an excellent damage dealer (Boon of Lathander even stacks with itself, but I'm not going to exploit this). Importantly though, vampires don't seem to recognize BoL as protecting from level drain which means they attack the priest rather than turn into mists/bats and flee as is the case with NPP or ProMW spells. However it does take about 9X as much exp to utilize PoL 11->fighter than the more traditional fighter 7-> cleric dual class. Bodhi was really easy.
Donated 10% of my gold (~90,000 after completing the sphere) to my temple - we're already at 20 rep but I'm supposed to be a good aligned priest rather than a tight fisted potion hoarder... then set sail on day 34; we've made very slow progress since we've had only one spellcaster for most of chapter II and I've been playing it safe with my largely unprotected PC plus doing more quests than usual. Things might pick up when we rescue Imoen.
Currently in Brynnlaw, forgot to take Yoshimo but it won't matter because I intend to use the SoA xp cap for the entire game and with a party of 5 we'll reach it soon anyway. I didn't forget to visit the merchant here though, he had a scroll of ProMW for sale which I bought (going to be collecting scrolls of ProMW and IH as I think I'll want them in the ToB endgame).

Back in Amkethran we endured waves of mercenaries and monks (who were able to see through inisibility to my surprise) and talked Balthazar out of fight convincing him to join us in the final fight vs Melissan.
With our heavy gold purse we emptied local mage shop of valuable scrolls and constructed Big Metal Unit.
Back in Pocket Plane we endured the challenges. The *dark version* of BlackStrider fell quickly to Corey' GWW, Tamoko soon after, Angelo managed to backstab Krimlor for around 70 hp but was eliminated in a blink of an eye after that and only Semai was more or less real threat. He cast two Time Stops (gating Glabrezu, who was *pinned* and destroyed by Corey, and tried to strip our protections) and then Wish'ed one more Time Stop. Meanwhile Planetar destroyed his Simmy, Grond stripped his Spell Trap via wand (RRR), Pot fired Secret Word for Spell Shield followed by Spell Strike, Alesia added Breach and that's it.
Slayer was no match for us at that moment as were not Cyric's favorites (we protected all crew members with Stoneskins by spells and Gragoyle boots) and just pressed our melee attacks.
Vs Ravager we made our buffs (as usual), summoned Skelly Warriors, some Elementals (with Sunnis among them) and Planetar. When the fight fired Pot moved close to Ravager and hit with Chain Contingency>3*Pierce Shield. Our warriors GWW ignoring Bone Blades, Pot hit with ADHW (brought Ravager at near death and destroyed some Blades), Alesia fired Breach and tried yet another ADHW but Planetar stole her trophy with his Blade Barrier.

And now after long road from the Candlekeep (nearly a year of real life...wow!) the Avatars are standing at the doorsteps of Bhaal' Throne. We suffered a lot during this road but it was a lot of joy as well. We became more than just a crew of adventurers, we became a close friends, and a family... No one knows what awaits us on the other side but I'm sure that I could count on everyone of my friends, as they could count on me.
As this will be my first SCS-Ascension Throne challenge ever I have watched a lot (and I mean a lot!) of youtube videos, inspected our forumites' posts here thoroughly for just to know what to expect there. I hear in my head as Melissan screams again and again: *Doom awaits thee!!!* We will see, Melissan. We will see...
Current (pre-Throne) state:
BlackStrider: Blade (39), 416 kills (Nizidramanii'yt);
Alesia The Curious: Mage (18)/Thief (24), 183 kills (Draconis); (1 death);
Grond The Pathfinder: Archer (29), 553 kills (Ogremoch); (1 death);
Krimlor the Dragonslayer: Fighter (20)/Cleric (22), 627 kills (Firkraag); (5 death);
Pot The Selfless: Mage (27), 135 kills (Chromatic Demon); (4 death);
Corey Russell: Undead Hunter (29), 283 kills (Balor) (1 death).
Cassia The Furious: Shapeshifter(14), 484 kills (Alchra Diagott); (4 death); Gone but not forgotten...
Our destiny awaits...

Greg went through the dungeon without problems in the company of Jaheira and Yoshimo along with Imoen. The circus was then rapidly restored to order before Greg checked in with Gaelan Bayle. Then off to the Docks to do Mae'Var's tasks in order to recruit Edwin.
After looting the Temple of Talos, Greg handed in the necklace and moved on to confront Rayic Gethras. The mephits were quickly slain, but the stone golems caused problems as Greg was the only one that could hit them - with non-proficient Arbane. In the close confines of the house Yoshimo was killed and Jaheira nearly dead, so Greg had to take the remaining golem for a run outside where he could usually get an attack in and retreat before any retaliation.
I paid the temple to raise Yoshimo an instant before remembering that Jaheira could have saved the party the 1,000 gold cost. Then went to the inn to rest, only to see Jaheira cursed by Baron Ployer. After resting up, Jaheira buffed with chaotic commands and tried to sort Ployer's wizards out with an insect plague. However, the plague refused to spread from Ployer himself which left the gang exposed. Greg and Yoshimo were both confused and Jaheira had to do most of the hard work to deal with the mages.
Finally the gang were back at Rayic Gethras' house. Jaheira entered his room under RoAC II and hid in the corner before summoning 3 nymphs. Using them for cover she plagued Rayic. His protection from normal missiles spell kept him alive until that finished, but he'd tried and failed with his worst spells by then and died before doing anything more serious than dominating a nymph.
I was doing very little buffing and not using healing potions, so didn't expect the run to be a long one. However, when the end came it was a surprise. With Edwin in the party I was clearing Mae'Var's thieves when this happened:

Greg was uninjured at the time and normally those thief backstabs wouldn't be a danger, but it looks like 2 of them hit him simultaneously.

I saw that screenshot and first thought was "oh, he's triggered the petrification trap again". Was he using a ranged weapon to help the backstabs along?
He couldn't no. I would normally have just kept him behind another character, but I hadn't been playing safely for a while - I don't have Serg's patience with party play!corey_russell wrote...
@Grond0: Sorry to hear of Greg. By the way, while I haven't died on that level, I have come VERY close to dying (like only 1 HP left), so I don't clear that level anymore, the reward just isn't worth the risk (backstabbing thieves). Though I guess going to jelly form may have been effective (cloak of the sewers) for the piercing resistance. Though maybe Greg can't use that cloak?

fwiw, on my SCS2 v21 install, Spell Thrust removes Spell Shield correctly (the "Initialise" component fixes Spell Shield, but are you referring to another component?)

Killian's off and running in BG2 (and barbarians run quickly of course).
He made it through the dungeon without any particular problems. He didn't bother using the potion of firebreath, but Ulvaryl was still too slow trying to make her escape.
Setting the circus to rights got him to level 10 and he reported in to Gaelan Bayle. Helping Hendak take over the Copper Coronet got him enough money to buy Azuredge and Stonefire.
At the Bridge District he watched Hareishan snack on some thieves (not scared of her, but just wanting their equipment) and then used rage to get the berserk warrior. Then moved on to the Government District to buy a license (so he can use the RoAC freely). Travelling back from there he was ambushed by Suna Seni, but Bhaal horror proved extremely effective against the attackers.

Are you running patched ToB? The creature duplication bug usually happens in an unpatched game. Congrats on running a randomized party anyway, that takes guts.
These random created characters forces one (or at least me) to use potions and wands, which I haven't used that much, even in non-heavily-modded game.
Party goes to Government District to buy magic license and raise Hizkiah. From there they continue to the Slums. They are ambushed by Suna Seni. Eudora's Hold Person and Horror save the day, but not Gudrun, who dies while trying to tank with potion of stoneskin. Jodocus gets to wield much of the new stuff:

(He doesn't have name because MP doesn't work, so I have to use CreateCreature to create the NPCs.)
For the Death Spell party needs some money. Eir has heard that Copper Coronet is den of gamblers. In the backrooms they are attacked by guards and they decide to help Hendak, as slaving is illegal after all.
After the incident in Copper Coronet they return to the Temple District where the four Earth elementals are defeated with help of summons (luckily they have plenty of summoning spells) and traps set by Gudrun (after Jodocus did some scouting). In the Sewers we sadly can't find the equipment of those who died there. The mirror is taken to Mekrath, Haer'Dalis is saved and the Rakshasa in the sewers is killed. Back to Bridge District, but before that they head to Adventurers' Mart, where I waste 2400 gp:s to Secret Word scrolls, for it took Eudora three attempts to get one copied. Then I realize that it is quite useless, and I should have bought Breach instead. But I think the party can handle the Planar Prison even without it. I have the stolen wand of resurrection after all. Therefore Eir agrees to help the tieflings in exchange for the Theater.
Befor Planar Prison party buffs with Pro. Fear, Haste, and Potion of Stone Giant Strenght for Jodocus, also from now on it seems that Gudrun will use CoS' troll-form to be of any use in melee. The first battle is to my surprise fairly easy.
Then the party advancec to East, where they kill some Salamanders and the Wyvern. They decided to wait until the female mage's defense in the north would go out, but are spotted anyway after a while, a Chaos affects all of the party except Gudrun and Eir. Luckily none of them decide to go to the portals. Then my old laptop crashes. I restart and take care of the mage, actually her companion kills her (maybe because of an unpatched game(?)).
The Air Elementals are killed and the demon falls to Near Death, but then he runs away. I rest, and try again. I set four traps and lure the demon from near the warden with some animals, after I have buffed with haste and pro fear. Unfortunately he has a slave with him. The slave takes bulk of the trap damage - in hindsight at this point I should have just ran off. I attack the demon with Jodocus, wand of lightning, and Eir's MMMs, and Gudrun's troll form. The enchanter, Eudora is held after the lightning bolt, and so she does not help in rest of the battle.
They get the demon to near death again with Magic missiles, and Hayk's and Jodocus's attacks, but the tanar'ri recovers. First to die is Gudrun. Next to go is Jodocus, despite numerous uses of Rod of resurrection to heal him. I resurrect him, and he continues his attacks, but they have hardly any effect. Eir is held at some point. Battle goes on for a while: Hizkiah uses wand of resurrection to heal Hayk and Jodocus, but they are not able to lash out enough damage to kill the demon, the slave is also quite bothersome. Soon Hayk, the beastmaster is almost dead. He runs for a while from the slave that is attacking him. I think I have enough time to resurrect Eudora, who has died at this point. But as soon as she comes back to life the demon kills her again. In last ditch attempt Jodocus gulps a Potion of Speed and Potion of Frost Giant Stranght and rushes the demon, in vain. With his death it is evident that all is lost. Next to go is Hayk, who had 5 hp left at this point. Then Hizkiah, who was at three hit points anyway. Last one to fall is Eir the child of Bhaal. And so ends her story.

Killian had a good morning's work and is still looking a promising prospect.
First he went to the Temple sewers to open up access to the lich there - helping Roger and killing the rakshasa on the way. Then used a scroll of protection from undead and Azuredge to kill the City Gates lich, Shade Lich, Elemental Lich (level 11) and finally Kangaxx's lich form (switching to Daystar for the demi-lich). Kangaxx tried running scared at the end, but switched directions once too often.
The minotaurs above Kangaxx reduced Killian's charisma by 2 through the use of the Rod of Terror and the nearby pirates
He started the Mae'Var tasks, but stopped to rescue Renfeld on the way to the Temple District (once again Bhaal horror proving its worth) and went back to the Docks to drop him off. That led to looting the Harper HQ and, with 15,000 available, paying Gaelan Bayle. After collecting his ring upgrade, Killian is about to resume the Mae'Var tasks.

Collecting the necklace from the Temple of Talos got Killian to level 12. On the way to take that back he saved Sansuki from a vampire assault and then girded his loins for the Rayic Gethras test. The berserk warrior got a first outing here and, when Rayic finally killed him, Killian reached for his RoAC - but couldn't find it. It hasn't been used recently, but the only place I could think where it might have been dropped would be when Killian collected items from Aran Linvail. In the meantime, though, he substituted rage (taking save vs spell to -2) and went on the attack. With Rayic's PFMW having expired against the berserk warrior it didn't take long to finish him off.
Killian went back to Aran's hideout, but if the ring was dropped there it must have already evaporated. That potentially makes this run a bit harder, although since I rarely use the RoAC after the early stages in BG2 I shouldn't really miss it too much.
Mae'Var's tasks were quickly finished and Killian invaded the guild. Although they had only just killed Greg, the thieves stood no chance against Killian's immunity to backstabs and barely scratched him. He got to level 13 in that fight.
Quickly ran through Aran's tasks. In vampire HQ Killian waited out Tanova's PFMW before coming in and one-shotting her with the MoD (level 14). Bodhi herself was also no bother.
After letting Aran know that there might be a short delay before he's able to board ship, Killian returned to the Bridge District. There he solved the Skinner murders: despite his immunity to backstabs Killian was struggling to melee the Rune Assassins in combination with the bone golem, so took them for a jog round the District while he regenerated a bit.
He cleared the top of the graveyard - easy enough with rage and the ability to destroy undead - got to level 15 there. One oddity there was that a group of undead suddenly appeared in the tomb where the staff of curing is, I don't remember seeing them before, but I probably spent longer than usual waiting in the tomb, so they might just be on a delayed trigger. After punishing the kidnappers and collecting the ransom (making a first use of Daystar's sunray on Tanova's ambush in the process), he returned to the graveyard to do the lower levels. Pai'Na fell quickly and her spiders were no threat (save vs death now -1). The Southern Tombs were also cleared easily to complete the Graveyard work for now.
Did the Sir Sarles quest and upgraded the MoD (killing Neb got Killian to level 16). To avoid offending any gods he also helped out the Temple of Lathander and the Order of the Radiant Heart (the Gloves of Healing from the latter will be helpful for the Empathic Manifestation).

Bannen, fighter/thief, controlled by CR
Korgan, controlled by Dogdancing
Wewa - permanently dead
When we last heard of the duo we had failed to defeat Kangaxx. We refused to give up, though we did retreat - we purchased 2 pro undead scrolls and returned. This time, the duo entered with the scrolls and then Kangaxx immediately switched to demi-lich form! And amazingly, Wewa had a weapon that could hurt the demi-lich - the sunstone bullets! Her help was a huge help and duo killed the pesky demi-lich! For now, Bannen using the Gaxx ring to put his spell saves at 0.
We decided we wanted to do the planar sphere to get a few items there. But Bannen forgot to loot the planar gem, so we had to returned to the now empty Mekrath's lair to get it...
It was night-time and we proceded to the Five Flagons - we weren't far away and then we got the mugger and some vampires ambush (3 of them). The duo were caught flat-footed but we concentrated on the vamps - well, a little problem - Wewa got level drained and chunked!! Bannen used an invis potion and escaped the zone. But he returned to loot Wewa's stuff, which for some reason wasn't lost like it usually is in single player mode.
In our last run, we re-rolled a character for Dog, but that worked poorly as she couldn't pull her weight. So this time, we decided she would control a NPC - in this case, we recruited Korgan since he is the same class and race as Wewa was, if not gender.
This meant we needed anti clay golem weapon for Korgan, so we battled Mencar's group. We had our pets distract the enemies (genie, berserker from horn, Kithix) while we beat up Brennan Risling. Bannen got targeted by mages and retreated. Korgan, was getting beat up very badly, and required several RoR heals from Bannen - then his morale broke! So Bannen had to do most of the fighting, with Korgan taking the spells from the mages - but success! Whew!
Time to do Korgan's quest - pretty unremarkable, except the daystar sunray ability was huge help in that huge undead ambush when first entering the crypt that Korgan wants to explore. After wiping out Shagbag's party, we proceeded to D'Arnise Keep and decided we have done enough damage for one night and saved here.

Corey_Russell/Dogdancing Multi-player No-Reload - Disaster strikes!
Killian {2} - gnome barbarian (update 4)
Killian has achieved his objective of gaining his first HLA without leaving the city.
First up he decided it was time to deal with Mencar and his gang. Kitthix webbed Brennan (at the 4th attempt), allowing Killian to come in and finish him off before he could run. Killian then ran himself, using Azuredge on Mencar and Smaeluv before returning to rage through Pooky and Amon.
I tried to have Killian stay inside the inn to deal with all of Captain Dennis' men, but the Captain proved just too durable to be safe (at least without using healing potions) and Killian had to step outside to finish him off.
Finally, Killian got around to dealing with the slavers. After picking up Lilarcor from the sewers a frontal assault killed Haegan and his guards while a Bhaal horror helped disperse the mages and their guards for easy disposal.
He was almost up to 17th level and got the last little bit by taking on Dracandros - just stepping out of the room for a bit while waiting for a summoned nabassu to disappear. The mage seemed a bit cheesy - he was attempting at least his 3rd stoneskin contingency here - but that did him no good.
Before returning to the Temple sewers, Killian bought Balduran's shield and Vhailor's Helm. His simmy sneaked up on Gaius with him and killed him before he could buff; without the mage, Tarnor and the others didn't last long.
The simmy helped out again against Mekrath and once more versus his yuan-ti mages before Killian moved on to the Unseeing Eye. The early stages of that were nasty when Killian went past the first, empty, encounter point and found yuan-ti a bit further along. Turning back, he immediately bumped into another lot of yuan-ti that had just arrived at the first point! Finishing off that little lot took him low on HPs.
The beholders beyond the bridge were tackled with Balduran's shield (level 18). On to the temple where Killian's gloves healed the Empathic Manifestation to death and he collected half the rod.
In the pit, the lich was another Azuredge victim, as were most of his undead colleagues. Moving on, more beholders committed suicide to get Killian to level 19. He gave his simmy another workout against the blind priests before bringing out the warrior and Kitthix to give cover for the Eye itself.
Yet more yuan-ti failed to stop him going back to the temple to drop off the rod before coming back to finish off Gaal. Reporting to Oisig left Killian just a whisker below level 20 and he got that by rescuing Viconia (taking hardiness as his first HLA).
