Thaxy's breath is specifically level-draining, not acid.  Negative plane protection (from berserk, amulet of power etc) will prevent the effect.

Sad news about the dwarves Grond, maybe they needed a supporting sorceress (Snow White?), really frustrating fighting things like tougher Rakshasas without any arcane caster.

I'm kinda (...pleasantly) surprised that didn't perma-kill them both. I thought death by level drain usually caused the victim to petrify and shatter.

Well, I'm contemplating attacking the dragons; although perhaps Carsomyr will make the underdark too easy and my party is already overpowered (in my opinion, soloing is slightly easier - except in the very early stages and endgame - than playing with a six person party, but a party of three is maybe the easiest, combines fast leveling and two backup characters to cover your mistakes, though I have four now).

Planar sphere was easy enough, I screenshot this just to show some interesting bugs.

This elder orb can be backstabbed, unlike most beholders - it might seem I was risking Valygar's life if he critical-missed, but since he had DW active the beholders first move would've been anti-magic ray and with the boots of speed he could make it round the corner.

Seems enemy mages' targetting of symbol death was screwy in v21, they thought it was finger of death (although it's very rare for them to use it).

Turns out spore colonies are back-stab able too (never mind that a mushroom has neither front nor back, how can it be surprised!?)

Golems become transparent during certain attack animtions (there is a golem in front of Keldorn in this screenshot), I noticed Wyvern animations are also screwy in my game and cause crashes. I suspect 1PP, much as I love that mod.

Fought Tolgerias and his mage more fairly this time, they fumbled several spells thanks to Leksa's Holy Word although he shot a 3x Chaos spell trigger at Keldorn (the only party member without Chaotic Commands) which was countered by switching from the harmonium halberd to Lilarcor (I'm fine doing this if it's actually in a character's quickslot, I draw the line at passing Lilarcor/shield of harmony around to protect the party while the game is paused).

I confirmed here that spell thrust is useless now compared to secret word; in order to remove spell immunity you must first remove globe of invulnerability, which spell thrust cannot penetrate any more. So, that's secret word for spell shield, ruby ray for spell trap, secret word for globe of invulnerability and only then can SI:Abjuration be removed. The last step wasn't necessary anyway, once Tolgerias's globe was gone he was silenced with Namarra. The slow process of removing these multilayered spell protections means an Inquisitor is less useful against high level mages/liches than in previous SCS versions, then again, he shines against Rakshasas and vampire mages (who are dangerous in spite of being only mid level) and True Seeing is always useful, plus Keldorn is my favourite character.

^Arrgh, disregard my wall of text, I know when I'm rambling on some topic of no interest to anyone.

The fire creatures put up a better fight and actually managed to hurt Valygar with flamestrikes and fireballs after lowering his fire resistance, no trouble though.

I overprepared for the demon plane including giant strength potions and imrpoved haste - I had bad memories of a glabrezu in the underdark gating in a Balor and the master of thralls repeatedly going ethereal and level draining us, besides, since getting Valygar killed by an ettercap (and Keldorn by orcs...) I've started being extra cautious.

It was too easy ofc, only Valygar took a few hits from a Marilith, who had the daystar sword! Also found girdle of inertial barrier in the Ice room, unusually early to find such awesome items (Valygar now has 75% undispellable magic damage resistance - at least we won't have a repeat of that trademeet Rakshasa fiasco).

Current levels: Randolph sorc 14 (~100,000 xp from the 15th level), Keldorn Inquisitor 14, Valygar stalker 13 and Leksa swash 10 -> cleric 15.

~100k gold left after buying the plate of Balduran, sensate amulet (naturally the cleric has only 70 hp) and Everard's morningstar (probably a waste of money, she only gets two apr with it even under improved haste, not that there's anything else useful to buy in stores besides potions, which we have a surfeit of).

Sext - half-orc barbarian (update 1)

Sext, having completed BG1, has started the second stage of his adventures.  He had no problems in the dungeon, although he failed to kill Ulvaryl before she disappeared in bat form.

Here's his record on exit: he's got 2 stars in each of flail and short bow, along with 3 in dual wielding.

Well, I'm not as much a junkie, or so experienced with tactical mods as some here (just returned to playing after a year or so), I gave what advice I could in your thread anyway.

PS: Don't cross post for attention, it's rude.

Sext - half-orc barbarian (update 2)

Sext made rapid progress during that session and is becoming a formidable opponent.

He started off by restoring the circus and giving Hendak the keys to the Copper Coronet.

After the Suna Seni ambush he picked up the berserker horn using rage.  Then he solved the skinner murders, though running the Rune Assassins round the area resulted in the death of Lt Aegisfield.  Unfortunately, without his dialogue having triggered, Chief Inspector Brega doesn't give a reward either so Sext missed out on the bonus.  He paid for a license from the Cowled Wizards.

On the way to the de'Arnise Hold he saved Renfeld and took him back to the Docks.  Used the RoAC to get into Prebek and Sanasha's house and one-shotted both of them.  After looting the Harper HQ and watching Xzar get stabbed Sext eventually got to the de'Arnise Hold via an orog ambush.  There he quickly assembled the FoA (his first proficient melee weapon in BG2).  The yuan-ti mage was neutered by the use of the RoAC and other things were tackled easily enough in small groups.  The only error there was that I went a bit too hastily towards an umber hulk and didn't give enough time to put rage up - Sext did fail his saving throw against confusion, but hadfortunately managed to slam a door before the confusion took effect.  Sext agreed to act as an absentee landlord for the castle.

Back in the City Sext prepared for a lich-hunt.  Roger's troll and a rakshasa were among the victims in the sewers on the way to the lich there.  In the Docks to open Gaxx's tomb Sansuki called for help.  Sext smacked down Del and probably could have killed both supporting vampires with his initial rage, but I tried breaking contact and running round for a bit until that could be refreshed - only for a vampire to demonstrate extensible arms as soon as the rage expired (could have been worse with a domination though).  A potion of stone form was used, along with rage and RoAC, in order to make the trap on the tomb in the Bridge District safe.

With preparations over, Sext used a potion of speed and scroll of undead protection to kill the liches.  All went down without a whimper with plenty of time left on the potion of speed - Kangaxx didn't even attempt to run away.  Paying Gaelan Bayle got Sext to level 13 and provided a +2 ring of protection.  His melee abilities have thus been radically improved in a short space of time (extra 0.5 APR, -3 AC, regeneration).  In addition his standard, unbuffed saving throw vs spells has come down from 8 to 3, which makes spell casters a little less daunting.

Hello folks!
Upon completing my most recent normal playthrough of the saga I felt like I needed more challenge with the games. Somehow I never came up with the idea of playing it "hardcore" on my own even though I'm an ADOM fan as well.

I started my run a couple of days a go. Decided to go the easy way the first time around and created a gnome fighter/illusionist. Well, it seems I had forgotten how tough of a nut to crack the assassin is who greets the player on the stairs to Friendly Arms Inn... My second try with the same character type ended with me arriving home drunk from the bar and annihilating my party by going to the duchal palace without any proof of Sarevok's crimes.

On my third run I created a human fighter which I would dual class come BG2. Here's her starting stats:
[img]http://i.imgur.com/fu5xLJv.png[/img]

The run through BG1 was a breeze except for a bandit ambush which killed half of my lvl 1 party in the beginning. My party for most of the game consisted of Kivan, Viconia and Dynaheir, and in the late game I added Skie to the party to handle the traps in the Thieves Maze (and because I had never seen her before). I hit the xp cap in the maze and was hence ready for Athkatla.

Since I find most of the good  BG2 NPCs annoying as hell, my party consists of Viconia, Edwin, Korgan and Yoshimo. SOA has been almost too easy so far, I hope I'm not getting too overconfident. I'm already level 13, dual-wielding Daystar and the Blade of Roses. The original plan was to dual class at 12 but heck, I feel like staying a fighter till the end! We shall see if ToB can be completed without a thief in party, since the replacements for Yoshimo after his betrayal don't attract me at all.

How can a character like this die in SoA?

Eidolon Half-Orc Berserker update 3:
Traveling with: Keldorn, Jan, Jaheira, Aerie, Edwin
Difficulty: Core
Mods: SCSII v21, Dungeon Be Gone

The planar prison proved to be quite easy with berserker rage lasting long enough to take down the demon and demonknight. Completing this quest got both Jan and Aerie lvl 12 which means they won't risk petrifying important loot with chromatic orb. After this the group heads over to take on Firkraag in the Windspear Hills.

The fight with Firkraag begins by sending in a skeleton to take an initial breath weapon hit then Eidolon and Keldorn follow. Our mages cast dispelling spells spell thrust, secret worth and pierce magic to get rid of any magical protections. Next after a greater malison lands each mage casts a sequenced double chromatic orb in hopes of a quick victory. The orbs all rebound off of spell turning luckily not killing any of their initial casters. I guess Firkraag's spell protections weren't dispelled. Keldorn gets pretty low on hps so he retreats to the stairs but Firkraag is insists on seeing to his death and follows ultimately claiming Keldorn's life. At this point the dragon is close to death but we are able to revive Keldorn before the killing blow is landed as to include him in the xp gain. With the increased hps on dragons the fights have definitely been longer and more enjoyable though I may wait until chapter 6 in future attempts to ensure more convincing victories at least with a full party.

Best of luck raukkis. You can see what the protocols are for different types of links by quoting someone's post and then pressing the BBcode button - this then shows the text for a link, rather than the picture itself.

Sext - half-orc barbarian (3rd and final update)

On to Trademeet where Sext opened up by ending the genies' reign of terror - using the RoAC for protection and making a first use of Gaxx haste to get up to 7 APR.  At the Grove Sext handled the trolls by himself comfortably, but brought out the efreeti to help with the groups of druids.  Sext buffed up for Adratha - killing him before he could summon assistance.  Similarly the spore colonies died before they could generate any myconids.

After Cernd savaged Faldorn Sext reported back to Trademeet and bought Ras and the BoIB.  There he cleared the tomb.  I thought Tiris might not appear (because dialogue with Lt Aegisfield was not completed), but Sext was given the chance to save Raissa - but a mis-click on the conversation meant he failed to do so!

Back in Athkatla Sext quickly ran through Aran's tasks.  At the Graveyard he raged through the tombs on the way to the vampires.  Things seemed to be going well there, until ...
Image IPB

That was a bit strange in that I had tried to rage before opening the door.  It's possible the rage failed to take effect (I took a screenshot earlier in the run that showed rage being cast, but the immunities not being added).  However, my attention was somewhat distracted by listening to the end of the Ashes, so it's possible I just moved before the rage had completed casting - have I mentioned before I really hate that the game doesn't allow you to see the text prior to a deathImage IPB.

Yes, glad to see a new entrant; I think you need to have been a member of the site for a week or maybe a certain number of posts before you can post images.

Randolph Carter the sorcerer died fighting the Alhoon and other mind flayers in the sewers (ironic for these Lovecraftian critters to end his run...). It's not such a hard battle, I was just playing while tired and doing silly things.

If you want the details: Valygar was on 18hp after being hit by ballistic attack and a couple of times in melee by the mindflayers (these are Polytweak enhanced mindflayers which have better THACO, more apr for Ulitharids and drain 25% of the targets hp per strike rather than intelligence). The next ballistic attack was guaranteed to kill him permanently (couldn't use a potion due to cooldown), I needed to get him out of their LOS and wasn't paying attention to my sorc. The Alhoon cast True Sight (removing my mirror images) and I realized my stoneskins had worn off, then the Ulitharids shot their ballistic attacks at my PC...

Thoughts on this character: I maybe should've taken skull trap instead of slow and limited wish for minor globe on the party (I remember this being great against rakshasas), Vampiric touch is another option, inspite that it claims to do 6d6 damage at level 12 it actually does 27-36 damage, so even though the healing is not cumulative, it's a viable damage dealer compared to flame arrow (and is magic damage, which so few creatures resist), buggy spell though. I'm also tempted to change stoneskin's duration to 8 hours, because I have a bad habit of going into a battle with yesterday's stoneskin and having it expire on me. I think I should not use aTweaks elementals next time, apart from their overpoweredness as summons, the permanent improved invisibility of the aerial servants means you cannot cast Chaotic Commands on them, which is a shame as they'd otherwise be the only good summon vs mind flayers (skeletons and mordy swords are destroyed quickly by their detonate power).

@Grond0 - Sorry to hear your demise. It really would pay to use charm protection helmets while in the vamp lair...I've said this before, but thought I would mention it again, since you died the same way...I know you love the HoB but it's okay to put it down if something else is more tactically relevant...

Corey_Russell/Dogdancing Multi-Player No-Reload
Bannen, level 12 fighter/level 14 thief, controlled by Corey_Russell
Korgan, level 14 berserker, controlled by Dogdancing
(Wewa - deceased permanently)

Yep we made some more progress. This run we are really hurting for heal potions, I don't know where we'd be if we didn't have the Rods of Resurrection heals...

In any case, we decided to attempt a rather challenging area, the Planar Sphere. Our first major fight was against the halfling mages - this was pretty tough, and Korgan required at least RoR heal. Korgan enraged and got within melee distance while Bannen assisted with his bow and fire arrows - took quite a while but eventually the enemies went down. She was suprised how long it took to kill the mages, Corey explains that in BG 2, mages have a lot of defenses, unlike BG 1...

Next major fight was the halflings guarding the fire elemental room. We threw in what summons we had then charged the room, using same strategy as the last group of halfling mages - success!

The battles with the nearby golems were a mess, partly as we got two stone golems and a clay golem at once. We also wasted a lot of time and nearly died because we weren't using blunt weapons vs. the clay golem. Eventually Bannen realized what needed to be done and did beat these pesky golems. The iron golem was defeated easily with our +3 ranged weapons.

Next, we made the golem to be on our side (yay) and followed it to a beholder. Bannen got seen first and got hit with a disintegrate from the beholder! Bannen's save vs. spells is 1, but still that was a 5% chance of permanent death, the duo lucked out this time...

For Lavok, Korgan enraged while Bannen assisted with acid arrows - this eventually got the job done. We like two heal potions left at this point - fortunately Corey_Russell remembered a nearby room had 10 extra heal potions, so duly acquired those and defeated the other nearby room with lizard men.

Time to get the demon heart - the duo did well, and we switched shields, now Bannen uses the shield of harmony while Korgan uses the shield of the lost. Demon successfully slain and the duo left that crazy plane...

Time to deal with Tolgerias - this fight was a mess, Korgan's enrage helped some, but with no way to breach, the mages got off a ton of summons, and once more Korgan was low on heal potions, but then Korgan's enrage expired and he was about to get mazed. Bannen went invisible and retreated to try to wait out the summons - this nearly worked, but a Hakashear apparently sees thru invis and Bannen had to drop invis to kill that. Still, nothing else came and in fact the summons did disappear right about when Korgan returned. Bannen put a RoR heal on the badly wounded Korgan, then the duo finally managed to mop up the two mages here.

With so few heals left the duo attempted to go invis past the fire room, with Bannen looting then going invis himself - well that was the plan, except Korgan moved before his invis from ring took effect and he was seen - the duo retreated, battled the enemies that came and mopped up the fire room after all.

The duo's travails still weren't over. We ran into the same bug as Grond0 and Gate70 did, where the golems appeared in different positions on our screens. One golem was even blocking Korgan's movement, though he wasn't really there...However, Corey_Russell took tight control of the fighting here and the duo won the battle, with Korgan finishing badly wounded. We can't RoR heal him, as both our wands are down to 1 charge. But no more fights! So we report to Lavok and he takes us out of the sphere.

The last actions for the duo was selling, resting, recharging both our RoR wands, and getting the Shield of Balduran. The duo saved here.

Corey_Russell/Dogdancing Multi-player No-Reload - FINAL Update!
Bannen - fighter/thief (Corey_Russell)
Korgan (Dogdancing)

Well the duo did the planar prison great. We decided maybe it was time to get the DEX gauntlets for Korgan. Problem though, Bannen forgot to get a pro undead scroll. Bannen tried to sneak by a lich but it saw through invis and did symbol fear on Bannen - Bannen had 0 for spell saves so there must be save penalty - Bannen was thus running around in fear, Korgan had no choice but to charge in an attempt to save Bannen. Korgan couldn't do much killing, as he kept having to RoR himself with all the damage being done to him. Unfortunately, Korgan died and Bannen had control of himself for a split second, but not enough time to pause and Bannen was slain. Run over. We tried it again to see if we could win if we used the Daystar sunray ability, yes we could though Korgan required a battle rez.

Bannen tried to sneak by a lich but it saw through invis and did symbol fear on Bannen - Bannen had 0 for spell saves so there must be save penalty

The save value is the roll you need to match, so a save vs spells of 1 will give you automatic success against disintegrate - which has no penalty.  Symbol fear has a penalty of -4, so you would need a spell saving throw of -3 to have automatic success.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 33 - (update 2)
Reb, half-elf F / M / T (Grond0) & Jinga, half-elf F / M / C (Gate70)

After disposing of surplus equipment from the dungeon the duo rapidly restored the circus before heading for the Slums.  It didn't take long to help Hendak displace Lehtinan and they proceeded straight on through the sewers to tackle the slavers.  A scared hobgoblin had run in the back door there, which meant it wasn't possible to produce summons out of the eyes of the guards.  Jinga, who hasn't learnt stoneskin yet, took a fair amount of damage as a result, but the duo were successful.  The slaver wizards did have to tackle summons and, disdaining any need to heal, Jinga was able to help finish them off without taking any more damage.

After travelling around several Districts invisibly the Suna Seni ambush eventually triggered - to their cost.  Immediately after that (with spells largely gone) Renfeld called for help.  Jinga took a bit of damage there, without ever being in danger.

There should have been a reasonable amount of further progress in a session last night.  However, it appeared Beamdog had been mucking about with their server and it was hard to secure a connection.  After about half an hour we eventually succeeded only for an immediate comedy of errors to result.  Jinga walked into the mad cleric on the way to drop Renfeld off; Gate70s connection then dropped, but he couldn't rejoin until the battle with the cleric was resolved.  Attempting to speed that up Reb cast MMM - attracting a warning from the Cowled Wizards!

With the cleric duly dead and order restored Jinga showed a shocking lack of trust by marching Reb off to the Government District to buy a magic licenseImage IPB.  They then took a trip to Watcher's Keep to pick up a potion case.  While there they investigated the interior, but decided to run away from the couple of vampiric wraiths revealed.

Back in the City the duo went invisibly into Prebek's house.  Jinga was able to summon a couple of skeletons before Sanasha objected, but she and Prebek were unable to survive the skeleton attacks supported by a hail of MMM.  That allowed Harper HQ to be looted.  The final action of the session was an attempt to place skeletons in order to trap Lucette after she had assassinated Xzar - but that failed miserably (probably doesn't help that locations of individuals varies between our computers).

Stats:
Reb, F8 / M9 / T10, 92 HPs (incl. 6 from familiar, 5 from Helm), 83 kills
Jinga, F8 / M9 / C8, 70 HPs, 66 kills, 0 deaths

Just realised that Reb doesn't actually have his familiar in BG2, although he still has the HPs added from it in BG1.  I'll sort that out when he summons a new one.

Corbeast the Beastmaster Update
Traveling with: Korgan, Minsc, Anomen, Yoshimo, Nalia

Yep, this run is still going. Still pretty early, only 16 days had passed at the start of this session. What we got done:
1) Rayic Gethras defeated. Anomen buffed Korgan with number of spells, most important probably being death ward, Korgan enraged and soloed Gethras
2) Maevar and most of his guild slain.
3) Tried to get to Trademeet to get to the shield of harmony, but got ambushed and then once there, Nalia got arrested. Thus we had to get some evidence on Isea and freed her.
4) Paid off Galen Bayle

We will try to get to Trademeet once more next session...

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 33 - (update 3)
Reb, half-elf F / M / T (Grond0) & Jinga, half-elf F / M / C (Gate70)

A generally easy session this afternoon, though Rayic managed to inflict a casualty.

The session started with opening up the Mae'Var quests and retrieving a necklace.  After going up to find Rayic Gethras Jinga went over to the corner invisibly and summoned some skeletal help. Reb tried to make things easier by going upstairs under stealth (so we could see what Rayic was doing), but that seemed to interrupt Jinga's spells.  Partly as a result Jinga got attacked by an invisible stalker and took damage.  Then, trying to run, she was unluckily held by a hold person spell Rayic aimed at a skeleton and Reb could not intervene in time to save her.  However, by this time Rayic's true sight had expired so Reb was able to quickly finish him off using missiles fired from II.

After raising Jinga and resting the duo invaded the guild.  Some skeletons and a well placed hold spell made the ground floor simple and a few summoned monsters helped out against Mae'Var - though he wasn't putting up much of a fight anyway.  Reb turned down the chance to operate the guild in future.

The final action was completing the Fallen Paladins - again pretty easy with the help of some buffed skeletons.  Neera was loitering nearby, but was told to take a hike (unlike in BG1 that doesn't result in you getting into a fight anyway).

Stats:
Reb, F8 / M9 / T11, 93 HPs (incl. 6 from familiar, 5 from Helm), 108 kills
Jinga, F8 / M9 / C9, 72 HPs, 79 kills, 1 death
