Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 33 - (update 4)
Reb, half-elf F / M / T (Grond0) & Jinga, half-elf F / M / C (Gate70)

Yesterday saw a decent amount of progress, though Reb had to survive a near-death experience on the way.

The session had an abortive start when I accidentally pressed Ctrl+6 and turned Reb's icon into Elminster.  Flicking through other shapes produced no obvious way to get back to the original and we also found Rejiek wanting to talk to us over and over again - so ended up loading the autosave.  We still found Rejiek ready to give us XP multiple times, but this time only talked to him once.  The Rune Assassins were no match for available buffs.

After paying Gaelan Bayle the duo went to do Aran Linvail's tasks.  There was no trouble with those, or with an encounter with Hareishan during them - she kindly left a stoneskin scroll on a thief's body for Jinga to learn.

In the Graveyard Pai'Na fell quickly, though both Reb and Jinga were poisoned by her spiders.  She also managed to summon a fire elemental which took a while to deal with by backstabs (due to having no +2 missile weapons).  At vampire HQ Jinga provided Reb with chaotic commands and tried to act in support to avoid being drained.  That wasn't entirely successful as she was drained 3 times - the 3rd being Reb's fault for retreating without saying what she was going to do!  Tanova was overcome by a stream of summons, while Bodhi lasted only a few seconds after taking major trap damage.

Jinga quickly ran through the Sir Sarles tasks and took Neb's illithium to Cromwell to get some level drain protection from herself.

A lich hunt saw 6 traps being set for the Shade Lich in the temple sewers.  However, it survived those and produced an efreeti before dominating Reb.  Jinga used the iMoD on the lich - though she also nearly killed Reb by keeping the reflection shield equipped while Reb was shooting at her.  Fortunately, after Jinga ran out of range, the efreeti didn't attack Reb again to finish her off.  That allowed her to quickly take a healing potion when she recovered her senses and Jinga soon finished the efreeti off.  The Elemental Lich was much easier - it did survive 7 traps, but fell within seconds to MMM.  While in the area the kidnappers were also taught their final lesson.

The City Gates lich and Kangaxx were then attacked from the safety of scrolls of undead protection to provide Reb with a nice ring upgrade.

Stats:
Reb, F9 / M11 / T11, 97 HPs (incl. 6 from familiar, 5 from Helm), 182 kills
Jinga, F9 / M11 / C9, 77 HPs, 141 kills, 1 death

Brutus Half-Orc Fighter/Cleric update 1:
Traveling with: Jan and Aerie
Difficulty: Core
Mods: SCSII v21, Dungeon Be Gone

Brutus began his journey by heading to pick up Jan and a casting licence in the Government district. Jan invis'd both of us and we headed back to the circus. We were waylayed by Suna Seni  so we walked out of sight to see what spells we had to make an attempt at the fight. Jan used the only charge of the cloud kill wand to try and soften up the group. Suna Seni and crew reacted quickly and came for us. The skeletons we had summoned didn't last long and it only took moments for the fight to be too risky to continue. We escaped to live another day and continued onto the circus to recruit Aerie.

The trio headed to the graveyard to get a few quests done and kill the crypt king. Our main objective at this point was to gear up Brutus so that he can be a true meat shield. After this we killed off Mencar's group as well as the other similar groups around Athkatla including the one within the guarded compound and temple sewers. The gold produced from trading in much of the loot was enough to get Brutus the Defender of Easthaven (off hand weapon choice). Aiding Nalia at the De'Arnise Keep was next to obtain the Flail of Ages as a main hand weapon for Brutus. While at the keep I tried out Slay Living on Glaicus. Though he was nearly dead by the time it landed it did manage to trigger. Jan looks to be a bit confused in that shot as he appears to be running away from the fight.

Back in Athkatla the group runs into Renfeld who (whom?) we promptly return to the harper hold. Continuing on this quest line we smash down Prebek's door and take him and his companion out before they have a chance to cast. Before returning the bird to Xzar we grab Jaheira so that the hostile group after her appears in the nearby harper compound. One of the mages in this group has a Ring of Wizardry for Aerie to use. Slay Living is used to greater effect on Lucette who tries to escape after killing Xzar. Once inside the harper hold we immediately disband Jaheira and thank her for her service.

Sorting out the Trademeet problems was easily taken care of and we lifted the Inertial Barrier belt & Displacement Cloak from a local merchant while we were there. We had some extra coin so we headed to Watcher's Keep to get Jan a shiny new FIretooth crossbow then back to the Slums to upgrade Aerie's sling to the one of Everard. Next we went about the city killing all of the liches including Kangaxx for his ring with the help of a few undead protection scrolls.

We've also completed Renal/Mae'Var's questlines. Rayic fell quickly to a successful harm spell connection. To end the session we paid Gaelan Bayle and have agreed to protect a shipment for Aran Linvail. Brutus is currently F11/C11.

Corbeast the level 12 Beastmaster Update
Traveling with: Korgan, Minsc, Anomen, Nalia, Yoshimo

Corbeast has finished Chapter stuff that he is going to do - lots left actually, for Imoen. Oddly, Anomen is able to cast skeletal warriors - in my games he usually only does this after Spellhold. We did defeat Kangaxx, or rather Minsc did. Weapon of choice was IMoD as usual. Since Minsc is in the front lines and may often dual-wield, we decided the ring of Gaxx would go to him. It will also help him resist poison, and Korgan doesn't need that being a dwarf and all.

The party members very rarely die, I think there might have been only one death the entire run. Regardless, Bodhi and her minions were defeated and the party is about to enter Spellhold. We left both dragons alone, will deal with them once we have Imoen.

Edit: hmm, just realized I don't have any rod of resurrections - I better guard Anomen real well. This could be a problem in the Underdark. Guess it will make the run more exciting...

Brutus Half-Orc Fighter/Cleric update 2:
Traveling with: Jan and Aerie
Difficulty: Core
Mods: SCSII v21, Dungeon Be Gone

The group has completed Aran's tasks as well as a few others including the planar prison, planar sphere, and the umar hills murders (skipped dragon for now). While in the planar prison a number of Yuan-ti failed their save against Brutus's blade barrier pretty spectacularly. The aforementioned areas were handled easily without much being screenshot worthy.

Next up is the Cult of the Unseeing eye. Jan puts on a show with his Daystar sunray nearly one shotting the lich. I've always wondered why the daystar sunray hits one enemy for 1000+ dmg, anyone know the reason for this? The rest of the quest is completed without much incident except for when Brutus ran into a group of beholders/gauths without support and took heavy hits and got held having all of his buffs stripped. Luckily the beholders dispelled his immobility and he was able to escape.

We also raided Firkraag's lair and rescued Garren Windspear's child but left the dragon alive for now. Before reaching the jailed child Jan struck again with sunray as he wipes out a good chunk of the vampire/undead group. Brutus hits 3 million xp as the child is freed and gains Hardiness as his first HLA.  This brings his physical resistance up to a hearty 75% (with armor of faith) and his level to F14/C14. Thats everything we had wanted to accomplish before setting sail so off to Brynnlaw we go.

The sunray does damage to all opponents, but against undead will actually destroy them if they fail their saving throw.  The high damage shown is just the game's method of implementing this destruction.

Corbeast the Beastmaster Update
Traveling with: Korgan, Minsc, Anomen, Nalia, Imoen

Well the team has escaped spellhold. I did something a bit different, I decided to RP, which is, that when we went to the crazy mages level, we weren't expecting a fight, so I didn't pre-buff, except I did do resist fear since it lasts so long and that was it. Then we battled Irenicus Minsc was killed, but the team prevailed, but badly wounded.

Team is currently working their way through the City of Caverns. I think I will shortcut my way out of the Underdark, with no rods of resurrection, Illlithid City and Beholders will be pretty dangerous. I will come back once we get a rod of resurrection.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 33 - (5th and final update)
Reb, half-elf F / M / T (Grond0) & Jinga, half-elf F / M / C (Gate70)

A 2 minute session yesterday saw the end of this run.  Starting outside Watcher's Keep we buffed up and entered to take on the vampiric wraiths.  One of the two was quickly killed, but the other was able to keep up with damage done to it through its vampiric ability.

Near the end it disappeared off my screen for a few seconds.  That might have been it going invisible, though I suspect it may also have been a lag effect.  Following on from that it attacked Reb again and did more damage than I expected (again, possibly a lag effect) and she keeled over.

Sad ending for Reb and Jinga's run, invisible enemies can be quite annoying without proper detection handy.

Brutus Half-Orc Fighter/Cleric update 3:
Traveling with:
Jan and Aerie
Difficulty: Core
Mods: SCSII v21, Dungeon Be Gone

The group has stormed through Brynnlaw, the Asylum, Sahuagin City, and Underdark without much trouble. On their way out of the Drow city we tried to kill as many dark elves as we could before retreating (with improved Ust'Natha defences). We were killing quite a number of the enemy but it was getting to the point where our summons were getting killed faster than we could replenish them. Moments after this another reinforcing group of drow entered the fray and we decided that this addition would likely mean our end if we stuck around. We high tailed it out of there and returned Adalon's eggs to her.

Back up at the surface we set our sights on some unfinished business with a couple of dragons but before that we run into Drizzt and friends. Of course we had to test our might against theres so we demanded they raise their weapons and attempt to defend themselves. Aerie opened up with a skeleton warrior sequencer while Jan casted haste and Brutus quickly chugged a potion of power for a thac0/hp boost before rushing in. Jan followed his cast up with a sequenced group of debuffs. The fight ended soon after with Regis being the last member to fall. From here we travel to the temple ruins to meet Thaxy.

Brutus' buffs are stripped via remove magic immediately but is able to stay in melee thanks to hardiness. The dragon managed to drain Jan as I neglect to recast NPP after it expired. With his melee protections breached Thaxy falls quickly to a whirlwind (greater whirlwind) of flail slaps. Victory is ours and we proceed to Firkraag's lair.

Firkraag went down more easily than did Thaxy as we were able to summon in creatures and buff in his chamber. With 80% damage reduction on Brutus the dragon's strikes were in the single digits. A lone skeleton was sent in to soak up initial casts then the rest of the group descended upon the drake who lay dead before long. Next up the group contemplates taking on Watcher's Keep before recovering the Rhynn Lanthorn from Bohdi.

@Grond0 - sorry to hear the end of your and Gate70's run. They can be tough, which is why I usually only attempt WK with an undead scroll.

Corbeast the BeastMaster Update
Traveling with: Korgan, Minsc, Anomen, Imoen
Permanently killed: Nalia

Here's a screenshot of the carnage that was going just before we escaped Spellhold:
Image IPB

We did our two main tasks in City of Caverns, get the +2 cloak and the cloak of mirroring for Minsc.
We proceeded to the Underdark. I was really concerned about not being able to fix party deaths with no RoR. So we did the shortcut. Namely, we bought what we needed from the Drow merchants then battled Adalon. We were victorious, using the deep technique of shooting her from the hallway where she couldn't reach us - all she could do was do a chromatic orb at Corbeast repeatedly, which he was never going to fail his save on that. However, we didn't have cold protection, so the victory came at a high cost - Nalia was permanently killed (chunked).

So we decided to cut our losses and fight our way out of the Underdark. We had just arrived in the slums and I ended my session here.

I like to go to Watcher's Keep early to pick up the first floor utility items (Quiver of Plenty, Ammo Belt, etc). The vampiric wraiths are a major issue, but I did find a solution to that problem: Daystar.

Just thought I'd mention that if one is solo, like Grond0 usually is, Daystar Sunray ability can be interrupted - it takes quite a while to cast. Even with Ilbratha, tha'ts no guarantee you can get it off (I know it's happened to my solo fighter/thief more than once). Undead scroll is much more reliable if solo.

Interesting.  In my installation activating abilities from items can't be interrupted (unlike personal spells and abilities), so that the sunray would be a viable option.  The considerable bonus damage from Daystar against undead (which bypasses physical resistances) would also make it a good choice of weapon for a fighter with long sword proficiency.

Odd, I've never seen Daystar be interrupted. My usual tactic is to enrage a berzerker (for the level drain immunity), run out to the middle of the hall to gather up all the wraiths, and then vaporize them. Sometimes they survive, but the casting has never failed.

In my install, any ability can be interrupted - I've even had GWW get interrupted and it failed to activate. I've had RoR get interrupted, it's rare but even had orders to consume potions interrupted (e.g., especially if the order was queued for the next round) and died as a result. Must be vanilla behavior.

Even insta-cast abilities like GWW can be (rarely) interrupted by damage, but scrolls and items like daystar can only be interrupted by disablers like fear, stun etc (although some of the mists have these powers), doesn't matter if you use mods or not, it's one of those hardcoded things that no modder has touched.

Corbeast the Human Beastmaster Update
Traveling with: Korgan, Minsc, Keldorn, Anomen, Imoen
Permanently dead: Nalia

We have obtained our replacement for Nalia, Keldorn and have done his quest, the Unseeing Eye. Beholders were dealt with by Korgan and the Shield of Balduran. The large group of undead by the gauntlets of dexterity, which recently ended Bannen's run, I remembered to get a pro undead scroll this time. Most of the them (including the lich) were destroyed by Anomen's turn undead. While protected by the scroll, Anomen then meleed the survivors, two greater mummies and a skeleton warrior - using a haste potion, he was able to do the job before his protection wore off.

The party has traveled to Windspear Hills one last time - we think we can find a nice upgrade for Keldorn here - : ). Ended session here.

Corbeast the Human Beastmaster - Dragon Hunting
Traveling with: Korgan, Minsc, Keldorn, Anomen, Imoen

Time to take care of unfinished business. First we had Imoen memorize all the protection from fire spells she could, then we went after Firkraag. With the excellent fire protection and summon assistance, as well as nicely timed breaches by Imoen, Firkraag couldn't put up a good fight and was slain.
Image IPB

Next, we cleared out the illithids in the sewers. We initially used summons but ran out. So instead put chaotic commands buff on Minsc, and lots of genius potions on Minsc and Korgan and had the party charge the Illithids. This worked well, Keldorn doing lots of good damage with his Holy Avenger.

Next up, time to elimiate the threat to Immesvale in the form of Thaxxyssyllia. We put up summons again, and attacked. Imoen did pierce magic and breach twice, and Thaxxy fell soon after without killing anymore, though Keldorn needed a RoR heal during the fight.
Image IPB

We have returned to the Underdark Exit and went back to the Underdark and are about to enter the Beholder's Lair.

Corbeast the Beastmaster - Underdark, Planar Sphere
Traveling with: Korgan, Minsc, Keldorn, Anomen, Imoen

Corbeast and team returned to the Underdark to deal with the Beholder Lair and the Illlithid City. Ironically, I delayed this earlier for lack of RoR wands - this time around though, through careful play no one died in either area so it was all for naught, sort of.

When we got Waukeen's Promenade to purchase Ribald's RoR, I noticed we hadn't dealt with Mencar yet. I decided that really Korgan can solo this portion with enrage and a few minor buffs, and indeed he did great. Brennan Risling almost escaped, but Anomen's quick reflexes through a bullet that stopped him a moment before Brennan could escape. Imoen, however, couldn't de-trap the chest, so we left it alone - I remember that it's a petrify trap and nothing good inside it anyways.

We finally did the Planar Sphere - no problems at our levels. I discovered Keldorn and Korgan and a great team here - Korgan charges mages, Keldorn dispels their buffs (Keldorn is level 14 which means he dispels as level 28 caster) then Keldorn assists with his Holy Avenger. Every mage fight went smoothly this way. I enjoyed having Valygar in the group to finally put the +3 spear with +10 piercing damage to good use, it always seems such a shame to not use such a fine weapon, but Valygar is built for this weapon. I was tempted to keep him, but Minsc has a number of items we need, so at the end of the quest swapped out Valygar for Minsc.

At at the end of the session, Korgan was dual-wielding Stonefire and Frostweaver, 4 attacks per round and negative Thac0. Minsc is dual-wielding finally also, with IMoD and Belm putting Minsc at 5 attacks per round. Supported by Keldorn's Holy Avenger, the run through the vampires should go quite a bit smoother this time. Next session, Bodhi will be our next target.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 34 - (update 1)
Spiro, half-elf beastmaster (Grond0) & Schuern, elf enchanter (Gate70)

After dealing with Sarevok there was enough time left in the session to start off in BG2, although things didn't go quite according to plan.  Everything seemed smooth enough until encountering the mage near Ilyich.  Spiro was intending to wait in the shadows while his mirrors disappeared, but didn't make that intention clear.  As a result Schuern launched an attack and the mage focused on her.  Already injured, Schuern tried to get out of combat by casting invisibility, but the mage was already casting a scorcher and that took fatal effect before Spiro could intervene.

Left on his own Spiro took a few short-cuts, not bothering with the elemental plane and Ulvaryl for instance.  He had a fairly easy ride through in general.  One encounter that took a bit of time was when he tried for a while to get the mephits in the portal room to follow him, but they refused to do so.  However, they did cluster far enough down the room to allow Spiro to destroy 3 portals with his bow.

Schuern has had a face-lift since her BG1 adventures, but Spiro is presenting the same homely features.  Here they are after emerging from the dungeon and visiting a temple to get Schuern revived.

Stats:
Spiro, beastmaster 8, 96 HPs (incl. 6 from familiar, 5 from Helm), 68 kills
Schuern, enchanter 8, 34 HPs, 11 kills, 3 deaths (including 2 in BG1)

Velvet {2} - halfling swashbuckler (update 1)

Velvet failed in her objective to finish BG1 without taking any damage.  Possibly as a result I was less careful than I might have been in taking her through the dungeon.  A lesser golem took a chunk out of her, though immediately afterwards it died from Velvet's first use of traps.  The most dangerous moment though was when Velvet failed to kill a steam mephit while it was scared - fortunately she recovered pretty quickly from this stun and was able to run away without resorting to healing potions.  On the plus side the potion of firebreath accounted for Ulvaryl.

Here's her record on exiting the dungeon.

Velvet {2} - halfling swashbuckler (update 2)

Velvet went straight to report to Gaelan Bayle before buying some thieving potions.  Using those (and the Cutpurse's inability to notice the same goods coming across his counter repeatedly) she rapidly acquired effectively infinite money with which to buy her choice of goods.  Having patronised shops in the City (and helped Hendak in the process) she travelled to Watcher's Keep, stealth-shooting Suna Seni and other ambushers on the way.  There she bought the Short Sword of Mask and Firetooth.  Inside, there were no vampiric wraiths and Velvet quickly looted it - getting to level 12 in the process.

Back in the City she restored the circus to normal operation before having a go at Mencar's party.  Brennan Riesling's resistance to both piercing (trap) and fire damage allowed him to make his escape, but the others died easily enough to traps, stealth and Bhaal horror.  Mencar was the last to go - he managed a single hit on her in retaliation.

Stats (cont. from BG1):
Velvet, swashbuckler 12, 65 HPs, 292 kills

Corbeast the level 19 Beastmaster - The end looms
Traveling with: Korgan, Minsc, Keldorn, Anomen, Imoen

So the party traveled to Bodhi's Lair without any extra help. With the massive melee that Korgan and Minsc can deal, as well as the powerful turn undead of Anomen's, was pretty smooth sailing, though we did get level drained a few times. Just a few buffs (with softening up by a firestorm by Anomen) was enough to finish Bodhi once and for all. Imoen is back to her old self now...
Image IPB

We did some last minute errands, going broke once more. We barely had enough to forge the Crom Faeyr, a great weapon for Korgan. We then reported to Elhan and then battled to free Suldanessar - no deaths and pretty smooth, though a few RoR heals were necessary against the golems here. The drow mage was killed by his own demon, as his death spell aggroed the demon...The temple was fun - Imoen gave everyone protection from fire, then we entered. Anomen cast firestorm and Imoen did horrid wilting. Korgan charged the enemy mage - I know the mage has petrify in his spellbook but Korgan would resist. However, after a Keldorn True Seeing, the mage didn't live much longer and the temple was secure. After obtaining the final piece we need (harp I think), we entered the Palace.

Oops, forgot to mention the battle vs. the dragon, Nizi. Played it pretty safe, 3 ariel servants, air elemental, Deva, protection from evil 10', resist fear. Then the summons moved to the front lines while the entire party ranged attacked Nizi. No spells were used, though lots of potions needed. However, this was all it took and in about 8 rounds or so Nizi gave up the ghost.
Image IPB

I saved and ended my session here - Irenicus is my last SoA obstacle, wish Corbeast luck!
