Despite rescuing Jaheira I've no real intention of keeping her in the party (too irritating) but she's relatively strong right now with the ability to summon 3 nymphs and 2 sets of animals.

For now my first priority is experience so I head to the slums and meet Gaelan Bayle before heading off to the Docks to get the Mae'Var's guild quest, stopping on the way to kill a mad priest of cynic and to pick every lock in the shadow thief guild hall. Couldn't disarm some of the traps though :(. Picked up a bunch of useful potions from the tables and found a very useful scroll of protection from normal weapons which no one can use yet (I'll save it for Aerie or Nalia when I get one of them). On the ground floor of Mae'Var's guild hall I find a multicoloured oil of speed (the improved haste one) which isn't any better than an ordinary potion as I've only got 1 apr. I also find scroll of MGoI.

I skip the upper floors of Mae'Var's guild hall and instead go to the sea bounty's tavern to start the Jaheira curse quest. Whilst there I killed the pirates behind the secret door which proved a remarkably difficult fight for this early on. Jaheira's summons and the fact that the enemy mage couldn't see me for most of it saved my skin. Still, it got me a good bit of gold and xp so it was worth it. I rest up in the sea's bounty, swapping one of Jaheira's summon animals spells for insect swarm.

I head back to the slums and go straight to the derelict house (avoiding the two thugs in the street by taking the long way around). Once inside Jaheira unleashes an insect swarm, getting all 4 enemies before casting a nymph and a bear whilst Erica tanks Ployer. The nymph holds ployer and one of the mages whilst the other two run around doing nothing much. The last mage to fall charms the nymph right before he dies so I have to kill it too. The fight pushes Erica to level 11.

Once they're dead I head back to the sea's bounty to rest for Jaheira then head to the upper floors of Mae'Var's guild hall to pick some more locks and disarm some traps. I also stop by the shadow thief guild hall to get the traps I didn't get before.

I head back to the adventurer's mart to sell the a bunch of stuff and get ambushed on the way by Suna Senai and her gang. Adding the scrolls I get there to my collection I decide to pick up two scroll cases in the promenade to hold them until I choose a mage.

Upon leaving the adventurer's mart I find I have over 15000 gold but decide not to advance to chapter 3 yet as I haven't spent anything on equipping myself properly. Instead I head to the graveyard district to pick up some more minor quests whilst I decide who to take into my party and what to buy.

I'm on the way to the bridge district to hunt down the men who buried Tirdir when Renfeld's attackers ambush me so I detour to do that quest first. Once Xar is dead Jaheira is taken by the harpers leaving me on my own. With my inventory full I realise I've gotta make a decision about who to take into my party sooner rather than later. I rush to the copper coronet to recruit Anomen (the only romance option for a female PC :(, you'd think they'd at least have made one of the other NPC's Bi if they weren't going to add more options for female PCs), Then I swing by the government district to rescue Viconia before returning to the promenade to rescue Aerie from the circus. Anomen has a lovely 900 000 cleric xp (level 12) but after having him join the party his 7 fighter levels brought the average party level down a lot so Vicconia was only level 9 cleric (400 000xp) but Aerie still had a good 800 000 xp split between her two classes giving her cleric 9 and mage 11.

After resting the night in the seven veils Jaheira returns (along with all my stuff she ran off with.) So I agree to follow her to the harper compound. Anomen, Viconia and Aerie get Chaotic Commands before entering, and as soon as the fight starts Erica quaffs a potion of invisibility and hides in a corner whilst everyone else summons something: 1 Aerial Servant, 1 Nymph, 2 Skeleton summons. With the meat wall in place Aerie, Anomen and Viccy and the Nymph proceed to spam hold person spells. Once a few of the more dangerous enemies have been dealt with Erica rejoins the fight, backstabbing Nadinal and killing him in one hit. Overall a very difficult battle for so early on but well worth the cost as Aerie now has a ring of Wizardry (even if she can't cast lvl 6 or 7 spells yet :D).

I drop Jaheira from the party now that there's no use for her any more and prepare to do some shopping.

Why drop jaheira that early when your main character is a thief that can use the harper pin?

A) because I find her really annoying.
B) because I forgot about it completely as I rarely play a thief. Nuts, that's really quite a nice amulet, and would free up my cloak spot from the cloak of non-detection.

First I clear some inventory space by having Aerie quaff a potion of genius and a potion of mind focusing I'd found before scribing a few dozen scrolls. Then I stop by the Adventurer's mart and using a friends scroll manage to buy:
1) A belt of Hill Giant strength for Viconia so she can wear decent armour and use a good shield
2) The reflection shield for Aerie
3) Rod of Resurection
4) Ring of Air control for Erica

I also kill the party upstairs of the Seven Veils to get:
1) Cloak of non detection and ring of invisibility for Erica
2) Full Plate Mail for Viccy
3) Warhammer+1 for Viccy
4) Scroll of Sphere of Chaos and protection from magical energy (nice luck here, normally they don't have scrolls like this on them.
5) Wand of lightning for Aerie

Next I run through some simple errands.
1) kill Bregg and Corhvale outside copper coronet
2) Challenge a fool to a pit fight and backstab him several times.
3) Clear the copper coronet
4) get the gloves of pickpocketing
5) Trek through the sewers to the slaver compound killing everything in my path.
6) Kill some muggers in the bridge district.
7) Find the men who buried Tirdir.
8) Solve the skinner murders (damn rune assassins nearly got me)
9) Pick up the horn of Valhalla
10) Quaff a potion of perception and master thievery then rob the bridge district cutpurse blind, picking up a lot of useful spells and a wand of fire for Aerie. I also grab a full plate mail from the storekeep for Anomen.
11) Rest at the five flagons then relieve mrs Cragmoon of a few dozen potions (she's so easy to steal from I don't need a potion of master thievery.)

Anomen now has 11 heroism potions and a bunch of strength potions
Erica has 10 potions of power, 10 potions of invisibility, 10 potions of stone form, 7 potions of defence and we've also got 12 oil's of speed distributed amongst the party.

Visited the graveyard district next. Found a family for an orphan, got the Namarra +2 from the crypt king and found a scroll of Incendiary cloud in the chest in his crypt. Next visited the temple district, grab some boots of grounding and a wand of the heavens for Vicconia and a girdle of bluntness for Anomen (i actually paid for these) before heading to the Order of the Radiant Heart to take the Anarg quest which wasn't exactly difficult with 3 clerics who can spam hold person. Still not wanting to risk Erica on any really dangerous quest I decide to do Nalia's keep next. I'm ambushed by some Orogs on the way but they all attack Vicconia who has -6 base AC + extra bonuses vs slashing/piercing/missile.

I decide to use up some of the potions overflowing my inventory so Anomen quaffs some strength and Heroism potions, Erica gets stone form and power potions and Viccy gets a power and fortidue potion, then everyone just bashes on trolls with finishing acid arrows from Erica. 2 hasted Aerial servants with 2 skeletons as meat shields make short work of the minor golems, then all 6 of Erica's traps and the Aerial Servants kill the iron golem. I put together the Flail of Ages but no one has flail proficiency yet.

Aerie uses sanctuary to get past the umber hulks and put the dog meat in the right spot. Then to kill them a bunch of skeletons are summoned and Aerie stands behind them with the wand of lightning unleashing it down the corridor (it actually makes the skeletons hostile despite their being immune to lightning damage?)

Torgal is killed easily with 2 hasted aerial servants and some skeleton fodder along with a quick backstab from Erica.

Back at the promenade I upgrade the silver horn, sell a huge host of items, Steal a bunch of important scrolls Aerie is missing from Lady Yuth such as Glitterdust, Lower Resistance, Skull Trap, Melf's Minute Meteors and Limited Wish as well as her selection of Sunfire and Symbol XXX scrolls.

Rather than memorise limited wish I cast it right away and get a second set of glasses of Identification. I also buy Aerie a Polymorph Self and Cloudkill Scroll and lastly I grab the robe of Vecna for her.

With Aerie now properly equipped and with decent spells memorised I head to the Temple district to kill the adventurers in the sewers and kill the Rakshasaa with the cloak of the sewers, I actual find a mantle and protection from elements scroll on their corpses. The rakshasaa was easy as the Aerial servant i'd summoned for the adventuring party was still alive and did 45 damage in its first hit vs the rakshasaa. The cloak goes to Viconia for now, pushing her base AC down to -10.

With my party as powerful as it is now I realise I may be able to take on the guarded compound in the temple district (something I haven't done in a long time.) so I rest in the sewers and head over.

I have Aerie use a spare minor sequencer scroll to put two webs into a sequencer. Aerie, Anomen and Viconia summon skeletons which are then buffed with strength of one. I have Erica lay all her traps before triggering the summon monster trap. The Nishruu goes down fast but my skeletons don't last much longer. Aerie unloads a few blasts from a wand of cold at the group of monsters. The Ogre berserkers die but the Glazebru and the Efreeti remain. Anomen and Viccy buff with potions and spells then go toe to toe with it. Thankfully it targets Viccy with her great AC. The Efreeti is the last to fall as he goes mist form 3 times.
Overall it was a rather frightening fight even if I did come out relatively unscathed.

Next Everyone is buffed as much as possible, Chaotic commands, death ward, Free action, Protection from evil 10'Radius. Aerie gets Spell Immunity Enchantment and Conjuration. I do all this whilst Anomen is stunned from the fight with the summoned monsters, expecting him to snap out of it sorta soon. Unfortunately he stays that way so long that many of my buffs have started to wear off. I wait a few more minutes and a few more spell protections wear off. I don't know what that demon hit him with but it's lasting forever. I end up just resting there to snap him out of it. That works so I re-buff and ascend the stairs.

First thing that happens on top of the stairs is:
Erica: Detects Traps
Aerie: Cast Spider Spawn right close to the party so it's the primary target instead of the party
Anomen: Summon Aerial Servant close to party
Viconia: Summon Aerial Servant cose to party

Next Erica heads round to try and backstab Katta. Aerie casts her sequencer then notices that the two mages don't have mirror images yet so tries a skull trap. Anomen quaffs a potion as he's already dying and Viccy waits with the rod of resurrection because even with the potion he goes down a turn later. Everyone's protections are stripped and Katta is trying to backsab Aerie constantly (he just goes before the protections do :D) so Aerie casts blindness in desperation and succeeds. She then runs like hell. Ketta seems unaffected by the blindness a few turns later as She tries backstabbing Viccy. Viccy and Anomen run up to the mage and start hammering him whilst most of the enemies follow (good because Viccy has AC and Anomen has lots of health) Aerie who's safely off to the side now casts Melf's Acid Arrow on the priest to try and distrupt his spellcasting while Erica tries unsuccessfully to backstab Katta. Viccy and Anomen manage to kill Sion who didn't buff very well and I realise Koshi died to an Aerial Servant whilst he was attacking Viccy and Anomen (the Aerial servant is dead now though). Erica out of desperation cast's Horror bhaalspawn power and Katta and one of the monster guys actually run away (katta runs downstairs too :D) Everyone attacks the priest now his blade barrier wears off and he goes down fast. Olaf is the last guy attacking now and Anomen and Viccy tank him whilst Erica manoeuvres for a backstab. Once he goes down the party goes looking for the last big guy on this level who quaff's healing potion after healing potion after healing potion forcing the party to do the same. Once he's dead I do a check and realise I'm out of detect invisibility type spells and Anomen's True Sight has warn off so I go down the other stairs to Katta and cast my remaining summons to distract her with but the twit just runs back up stairs. I'm really sick of the enemies ability to leave the map through save game areas as it takes me forever to follow them. I end up deciding to take the risk of following her on the same stairs just to stop her running back up them and Aerie gets her with a Vecna speed hold person spell.

At least I think that's how the fight went. I was a little busy trying to stay alive to record it all.

Final tally: Crap load of healing and invisibility potions and 5 charges from the rod of resurrection along with a few minor scrolls Aerie had are gone. Anomen was the only one to die but Erica and Viconia came frighteningly close and had Sion been a little faster with his dispel magic spell Katta would have killed Aerie with a backstab. Overall this was a phenomenally stupid fight to get engaged in this early on during a no-reload and I only survived with a fair bit of luck. Although now that I think about it, Aerie had Chaotic Commands so should have gone with Spell immunity Abjuration instead of Enchantment, then she would have been much safer as the dispel magic wouldn't have touched her and could have launched what spells she wanted with impunity such as the cloudkills she had ready to disrupt the enemy spellcasters. Overall it was Viccy that won me this fight. The -10 AC base + another -4 vs slashing allowed her to actually stand up for a while without getting hit by every attack, that meant she could intersperse healing others with the rod of resurrection with healing herself via potions.

After selling all the crap I found I'm now at 41845 gold and have to decide what to spend it on. And what quest to do next.

Oh, sorry. I didn't know you meant it literally. I've become so accustomed to seeing the word 'rape' flung about so callously and so mindlessly that I jumped to conclusions.

You're right, there is no dialogue option for turning Aerie down in that sequence. I imagine the developers assumed the player would be fine with it, particularly at that stage of the relationship—but it leaves precious little room for role-playing.

In the current climate in the west, I can understand their assumptions.

I buy the shield of Balduran and Vhailors helm and decide to do the cult of the unseeing eye. I don't add Keldorn to my party as I've got Viconia in it. Anomen can turn the shadows and vampiric mists fairly easily so they're not much of a problem. Before heading out to the lower areas Erica robs the cultists blind (you'd think they'd notice someone taking all their stuff right in front of them). Anomen is too low level to cast firestorm like he did on my last run through so I kill the lich with Kangaxx's body part using all 6 of Erica's traps. Just a bit further on I get careless and Anomen gets level drained by one of the wraiths forcing me to memorise a resoration spell and rest.

Killing the Yuan'Ti gets Anomen level 14 so he can now memorise a Firestorm spell, although I doubt it'll see any real use in this quest. The party is low enough level that there are no skeleton warriors in the undead cavern just before the beholders so Anomen just walks around turning everything. Viccy uses the shield of balduran on the beholders and gains level 12 giving her flail proficiency for the FoA. The cultists are killed by a sequencer with 2 webs and firestorm from Anomen. The unseeing eye is easily killed with the Rift device and Melf's Minute Meteors and Gaal and his cronies are taken out with a bunch of hold person spells from my 3 clerics.

After Anomen getting level drained in the cult quest I decide to pay the 15000 gold to the shadow thieves for the amulet of power before Rescuing Haer'Dalis and going on the planar prison quest. Mekrath and his minions are no problem, The planar prison on the other hand is a little more dangerous. I forgot to buff before going in :(. The thief backstabbed Aerie and almost killed her but she quaffed a potion of invisibility from Erica and healed up. Erica used her Horror power and Anomen used a wand of fear causing most of the enemies to run whilst Viconia summoned an Aerial Servant. The umber hulks to the right are killed with cloudkill. For the Thralls I make liberal use of hold person (3 clerics is really nice). I buff up for heavy melee before engaging the Master of the Thralls and put Vicconia in front with her -12 base AC to absorb attacks while Erica and Aerie stay in the rear with ranged weapons. The master goes down first rather easily then the Air Elementals soon after. Tried to charm one with the ring but it saved :(. Destroying the orb got Aerie mage level 12.

For the warden I send in some summons (Sword spider and Aerial Servant) whilst everyone waits for his PfMW to wear off as Aerie didn't memorise breach. After 4 turns Aerie and Erica shoot him from range whilst he tries unsuccessfully to kill the Aerial Servant (they've such nice HP. Even a horrid wilting and some melee by a Yuan-Ti bounty hunter didn't kill it, although it didn't help that the warden cast chaos on it when the only nearby creatures for it to attack were enemies anyway.

Other than the initial battle where I was unprepared the planar prison didn't present any real problem. Upon leaving the five flagons inn I find out that Anomen's sister is dead so I make my way to the government district (after I kill the bridge district Kangaxx lich with 6 more traps and a quick shopping spree of course).

Next up is trademeet but before leaving for the druid grove Erica makes sure to pickpocket a djinni bottle. Since Viccy's AC is so low she can only get hit with a critical I have her kill the trolls and spiders around the druid grove by herself with an Oil of Speed to hasten things along. I give her two Aeral servants in the troll cave because there's just so many. The part where the trolls fight the druids is solved easily with a firestorm from Anomen and a skull trap from Aerie. The next group of druids is dealt by everyone summoning monsters with their remaining spells then a volley of Hold Persons (no one actually gets held though. The summons so all the work).

For the Rakshasa I contemplate killing them with a gated Pit Fiend again but decide I've enough melee capabilities to take them. So I buff everyone's melee and head on in, quickly buy 10 invisibility potions from her then start attacking. It was a surprisingly easy fight.

Faldorn is quickly dispatched with a bunch of summoned animals and the party heads back to trademeet. In trademeet I solve the skin dancer and Mantle of Waukeen quests.

Next I grab Valygar and do the Planar Sphere quest (I keep Valygar only to open the sphere then drop him). I also pick up the beljuril stone from the chicken so I can upgrade the horn again.

The halflings are killed with Firestorm and Cloudkill with 4 Aerial servants acting as bait. Kind of a waste of spells but Viccy and Aerie were fatigued so I was going to rest soon afterward anyway. The spiders in the next room and the halflings afterward were all killed by 4 hasted skeleton warriors from Anomen. Unfortunately he was standing too close and got hit with a chaos spell so he ended up destroying 3 of the skeleton warriors by the end of the fight so they couldn't help with the fire Elementals.

Because I'm such high level there are 2 Stone, 1 Clay and 1 Iron golem in the next room instead of the 2 Stone golems I usually get. The Iron one gets stuck in the door and I contemplate just shooting it with missiles but I don't have any that will hurt it So I buff Viccy and give her the Girdle of Bluntness and have her just tank them all with the Flail of Ages. It doesn't take long although one lucky crit by the Iron golem brings her near death temporarily.

For Lavok I simply have Aerie polymorph into a mustard Jelly and absorb most of his arsenal of spells. Once he's down to melee Everyone just runs in and bashes on him.

I intend for Viccy to tank the Spore Colonies by herself with the shield of Harmony but I forget they can summon an absolute crapload of Mycanoids (I wonder what their limit is?) so I just cast chaotic commands on Aerie and send her in to launch a Cloudkill on them.

In hell I have Anomen summon 5 skeleton warriors, buff them with things like Prot' Evil 10' Radius and Haste then I send them and Vicconia around the map killing everything, piece of cake. Viccy ends up needing to use 3 healing potions though, 1 for each Tanar'ri.

Tolgerias is easy, Anomen walks in and casts Firestorm, Aerie walks in and casts cloudkill, Aerie then casts cloudkill again, then everyone sits back and watches them die.

The golems in the next room prove more problematic. Again there is 1 clay, 1 Iron and 2 stone. I have Anomen quaff a potion of Absorption I'd been saving for -10 AC vs crushing and give Viccy the girdle of bluntness again but even with these precautions they still do a lot of damage to me costing me quite a few healing potions.

Upon leaving the planar sphere I stop by the docks district to pick up my ring of Gaxx. Now I've got the staff of Fire I employ my usual Lich killing method of Lesser Fire Elementals + Firestorm from clerics (2 firestorms now Viccy is level 14) hastened along with Erica's 5 remaining traps. For the Demi-Lich form Aerie + Simulacrum of Aerie use the ring of the ram and Melf's Minute Meteors to kill him quickly.

Next I do some equipment shuffling. Viccy gets the ring of Gaxx to boost her already high magic resistance and It replaces the ring of protection +2 which goes to Anomen to replace his +1. Now that she's not wearing a ring of protection Viccy gets the Plate of Balduran to replace her unenchanted full plate mail dropping her base AC down to -14 and 80% magic resistance.

My last quest before completing the shadow thieves tasks is the Umar Hills shade lord quest. Even easier than last time as Anomen is level 16 this time and I've Viconnia with me too. I'm higher level to the random spawns have lots of bone golems but Aerial servants kill them rather easily.

Good old Thax'y is pathetically easy. A bunch of fire elementals keep his attention while Vicconia and Anomen cast Firestorm. He goes down in just 3 rounds, the firestorm is still going after he dies. Killing him boost Anomen to level 17 and the shade lord brings Viccy to 15 so that she can summon skeleton warriors too. Overall I've 14 skeleton warriors / rest available. I give Viccy the shield of the lost to boost her magic resist up to 85% but lowering her AC to -13… err… I mean raising it.

I rush through the shadow thief quest as quickly as possible, do some shopping (potions of genius, wand of cloudkill, some scrolls from Bernard.) and get on a boat to spellhold.

What's more with the scenery there, the great outdoors might be even more alluring than Faerun. Posted Image

I rushed through brynlaw and headed to the Asylum. The first level was a pushover. At the book where I died last time I just mobbed him with summons with Aerie protected turning the pages. Could have used the shield of balduran but forgot about it.

There was a rakshasa and some mephitis near the gem portal that I didn't remember but he fell easily enough. I remembered that the portal summons monsters so I laid some traps to help kill the pit fiend that came out and Aerie finished it with a bolt of glory. Most of the more dangerous monsters such as the mind flayer in the painting room in the next level were avoided by laying some traps and creating some summons. The 3 clay golems were killed with some Aerial servants and skeleton warriors to act as meat shields.

At the token machine I put in 10 tokens and 5 tokens for the boots of the north and boots of grounding. Bhodi is confronted and Erica promptly turns into the slayer.

Lonk the Sane doesn't like my idea of releasing all the prisoners and he actually manages to kill Anomen with a horrid wilting + power word kill but he falls soon after (and I resurrect Anomen and get his gear before the forced dialog thankfully).

The big fight with Irenicus isn't much trouble. Aerie, Erica and Imoen quaff potions of Invisibility then run into the corner while Anomen and Viccy cast Firestorm on top of Irenicus and then Run out of its field of fire. I end up killing all the prisoners too :). Jon quickly runs and Aerie uses the Wand of Cloudkill to take care of the murderers coming through the door.

Imoen gains levee 14 and takes limited wish for her first level 7 spell which she uses to get the Full Plate + 2 before switching to Spell Sequencer.

I take Simon's help in getting to the Sahuagin city and wander around casting cloudkill on everything before killing the prince and heading down int the underdark. All the clerics in my party drop Aerial Servants from their spells and replace them with blade barriers (fantastic vs drow) and a few bolts of glory for the occasional demon. Everyone who can also memorises a few protection from fire or fire/cold spells as I can cast 4 firestorms which also annihilate drow but which may require me to stand in the middle of them.

Ahhh… the underdark, home of so many dead no reload characters. I start off by almost getting killed by walking north and finding three unexpected mindflayers who thankfully end up attacking some summoned skeletons before successfully killing any party members, but it was rather close.

I visit the portals and get a bunch of XP then head north after freeing Vithal to find his book. I run into a hoard of drow priestesses but I've still got 2 fire elementals from the staff of fire I summoned at the last portal with me so I send them forward to tank and cast a firestorm to kill all the drow. This nets Viccy some very nice Drow Full Plate + 5.

The Balor is defeated fairly easily with some pre laid traps and bolts of glory. I buy Vithal's book and help with the portals, then demand more than a silly rod of absorption and fight him for the helm of death. I freed all the souls none of which were any difficulty seeing as I could prepare the battleground first.

The drow raiding party that ambushes you on the bridge is killed by having Viccy in the rear and Anomen in the front both casting blade barrier then tanking them.

Once my party is properly disguised as drow they head into the city and Erica promptly quaffs a potion of master thievery and puts on her gloves of pickpocketing before robbing the drow blind.

On my way to rescue the drow woman from the mindflayers I was attacked by a party of enemies I'd forgotten about and the whole party was wounded and low on spells making it a rather tough fight. Anomen and Imoen both died, sucking away 2 rod of resurrection charges. Killing the mindflayers wasn't difficult with the skull of death and Aerie casting death spell using Vecna.

Back in town I engage in some pit fights, putting my traps to good use. After this I decide to pre-kill some monsters to put my time to good use and head over to the beholder lair. As soon as I enter I'm attacked by a Beholder and an Elder Orb. I didn't remember the elder orb being there so it gave me quite a fright. To protect Erica I immediately transform into the slayer so that she can't be imprisoned. Aerie, Anomen and Imoen attack the beholder while Erica in slayer form and Vicconia with the shield of balduran go for the Elder Orb. With some quick magic from Aerie and Imoen with a buffed Anomen bashing on it the beholder only lasts 2 rounds. When it dies I have Imoen, Aerie and Anomen run to the edge of the room away from the elder orb whilst Vicconia and Erica finish it off.

Had a weird bug after killing it where Erica would act as though she's getting hurt by something but nothing was effecting her. I tried resting and that fixed it. Around the corner I find a bunch of drow fighting a beholder. Anomen casts firestorm on the lot whilst Imoen summons some fire elementals from the staff to keep them occupied inside the flames. After this I have Vicconia with the shield of balduran wander around. In the centre of the lair are 3 beholders + 2 gauths which are easy enough. Viconnia cast's chaotic commands on herself then summons some skeletons and attacks the mind flayers and gauths just to the south.

When Viccy gets to the south east portion of the map she's ambushed from 3 directions by groups of beholders and gauths and unfortunately an elder orb. Thankfully however when Viccy keeps her distance from the elder orb it casts its imprisonment on a charmed beholder. Overall their were 3 Gauths, 6 Beholders and 1 Elder Orb all attacking her at once.

Wait, there would have been 7 beholders as 1 got imprisoned.

Entering the challenge with Getty, L9 berserker transferring in from BG1.  Str 19, Dex 20, Con 20, Int 10, Wis 19, Cha 17; 98 HP; Grand-master in dagger, 2 stars in 2-weapon.  Intention is to dual at level 13 to a druid.  Mods used are:
CharmPatch
BG2 Fixpack
BGT
Dark Horizons
Dark side of the sword coast
Drizzt Saga
The Grey Clan
Thalantyr Item Upgrade
BGT Tweak Pack
BG2 UB
SCS
Solaufein
G3 Anniversary Mod
SCS II
Item Pack
Worldmap
L1 NPCs
The dungeon was negotiated safely.  Found several items of equipment that the thieves took when capturing us on the way to Athkatla that make the start of BG2 significantly easier (cloak of Balduran, ring of free action, green amulet, upgraded version of Koveras' ring of protection, cloak of protection +2, ring of fire resistance).

The only NPC actually affected by L1 NPCs is Nalia as I find it annoying that she dualled from a thief at such a low level.  Thus picked her up as a level 11 thief - she specialised in pickpocketing so the first order of business was to trawl around town making use of that.  I haven't put any restrictions on stealing on this run, although am not allowing sale of stolen goods, so am able to acquire good equipment for everybody.  Also picked up Viconia to complete the initial party (along with Jaheira, Minsc and Yoshimo from the dungeon).

Having denuded most of the shops Nalia dualled to a mage and learnt all the spells she could.  Not allowing re-learning, but this still got her to L7.  Before resting also took a trip to the circus and briefly recruited Aerie to learn her own quota (Nalia L8) and then did the same with Jan.  Nalia now at L9 and able to contribute properly as a mage.

Why daggers and not scimitars? Do any of your mods introduce great daggers? Though I guess that on no-reload getting spectral brand is not guaranteed...

I'm not aware of any mod daggers introduced into BG2.  I haven't come across the spectral brand before either - just googling I see it is on Watcher's Keep 3rd level; I've only been down to 2nd level once and that ended a no-reload so I may not rush straight there!

Reasoning was two-fold: first it seemed more interesting not to go for the standard choice for a druid; second it allows your weapon specialization bonus to be applied to a ranged weapon.  One point of concern I noted in BG1 was that reach for a dagger did seem very short - more of a difference from a short-sword than I would have expected.  This is a particular problem in general melees where you might well want to hit an opponent on the diagonal while standing next to one of your party.

Actually had a couple of problems while stealing in the previous session.  Was a bit unlucky with pickpockets as 2 of the fairly limited number attempted failed.  The nobleman in the bridge district, who sometimes has a high level scroll, was no great loss, but Cromwell being irate at me (couldn't remember whether I had tried pickpocket on him before) is a wee bit annoying.

After resting took on the party in the market district inn.  The thief tried to run for it, but was blocked off and cut down.  Jaheira used her insect plague; this didn't prevent spell casting (has been significantly nerfed by my SCSII and is no longer an automatic choice for a druid), but the mage and his familiar didn't last long enough to cause problems.

Did the quest for Xzar after returning Renfeld; Getty used his berserking tendencies appropriately to take out Prebek and his mage crony.

Changed the management at the Copper Coronet and cleaned out the sewers on my way to deal with the slaver scourge.

Trying to get to the De'Arnise Keep suffered the first party casualty; Nalia just survived the 2 unholy blights from the ambushing bandits, but the backstab was a step too far.  After raising her tried to get there again.  An ambush by bandits and orogs caused quite a bit of damage, but no more casualties.  Once into the keep had a nice rest before starting in on the trolls.  The spirit trolls are still hard work, but managed to get through without any fatalities this time (with only 2 good-aligned characters the unholy blights are a bit less damaging).

Just returned to the big city.  Getty now at level 11 - as is Nalia (1 more level to get her thieving abilities back).

Spent a while in the graveyard.  This included levying a severe penalty on a miscreant grave digger - unfortunate as the game treated him as an innocent for reputation purposes.  Decided that income so far should be spent before reputation worsened further and purchased a rod of resurrection and various containers.

Followed a scent to the bridge district and apprehended those responsible for burying people alive, though I haven't yet released their captive.  While in the area also solved the skinner murders.

Jaheira seemed annoyed with me for not immediately stamping on a budding romance with Viconia - though this may not be why she chose to leave the party at Meronia's behest.  Almost immediately afterwards Minsc went frantic as Boo had also disappeared - this party is evaporating fastPosted Image.  I suppose we'd better help Minsc in his search.

Edit: tracked Boo down to a pesky mage.  Attempted to relieve her of him by force - she eventually gave him up, although she appeared to be unkillable (but her guards were not).  The Cowled Wizards offered me a license in return for teaching her a lesson, but I decided I didn't want one - can't resist living dangerously.

Jaheira returned after resting and we bound her into the group more firmly when she abandoned her former colleagues over their attempt to imprison Getty.

Trekked to the Umar Hills and solved the missing persons puzzle there.  The party wasn't carrying anything to break through the Shade Lords magic protection so had to wait for the brief gaps when his spells ran out to hit him.  Only Getty was protected against death magic, but fortunately everyone else made their saving throws.

Spent the core of the session proving that Mae'Var was a traitor to the shadow thieves and obtaining the right to run his guildhouse.  In itself this was all quite straightforward, but there was a major battle in the middle when Reviane teleported in to avenge the harpers.
- being near a handy doorway I nipped in and cast some buffing spells before emerging ready for action.
- the harpers were nicely under control when Nalia absent-mindedly refreshed her melf missiles and the cowled wizards sent an enforcement squadPosted Image.
- a barrage of area-effect spells killed everyone except Jaheira and Getty.  They ran off in separate directions to try and spread the pain, but Jaheira was eventually held and finished off leaving Getty alone against 4 cowled wizards.
- he had quite good protection from greenstone amulet, ring of free action and death ward still up from the battle against the harpers and I think he only had to save against one potentially game-ending spell (prismatic spray).  Also the Tymora's Gift belt he had on radically reduces magic damage taken, but he still had to work through about 20 potions of extra-healing before the dozens of offensive spells dried up.
- at this point his daggers came into their own, but it was still taking a while working through the 4 or 5 stoneskins each mage had available.  He had managed to kill 2 of the 4 when the other 2 disappeared into thin air.  I suspect that this was probably the result of a script limitation on the allowed length of a battle - assuming that if it had not finished by now it never would.  Very annoying not to be able to complete the battle after all that work!
- paid the temple to raise Viconia.  Together with Jaheira she should have been able to raise the rest of them without resting, but unfortunately Jaheira used harper's call before being healed and killed herself again - just one of those daysPosted Image.

During the run around Jaheira also got herself cursed, so the first task tomorrow will be to track down Baron Ployer and get that removed.

Ployer is normally a pushover, so didn't bother resting and just waded in - no problems there.  While waiting for Jaheira to get the strength to put her armour back on did some work for the temple tracking down illithium for Sir Sarles.  The hunt for this led to the temple ruins and while there decided to indulge in a spot of dragon hunting.  A few summons to keep things busy allowed Getty to chew the dragon up with his knife - more items acquired for Cromwell to refuse to put together for me!

On the way back to the city visited the de'Arnise hold to see what was happening only to find that Isaea had the cheek to kidnap Nalia from her ancestral home; fortunately it didn't take long to get her freed.  Then went to revenge the families Neb left crying in Baldur's Gate.  On the way to get the bounty on his head was ambushed by a tough party of bandits.  Nalia went down straight away to a double backstab and 2 more fell in reducing the bandits to a single wizard.  I thought that was it, but he had a vicious sunfire in reserve - doing 70+ hits to all the characters and leaving Getty once again the only man standing.  However, that was the bandit's final shot and the rod of resurrection was brought into use once again.
