I guess i'll make a cavalier, cause dragons keep killin me.

Sorry about Valthix's demise. Fwiw, I think he stood a far better chance vs Firk than a Cavalier....

Seconded. And I as well see a dual/multi fighter/mage as a far better fighter (tank) than pure fighter (or Paladin).

I agree with you two.  A cavalier is no better suited to fight a dragon than any other class.  I just thought it'd be funny since they are the "dragon and demon slayer" class.

If you are willing to use the Rod of Resurrection full heals, almost any fighter can solo Firkraag. I once defeated him with a solo fighter/druid, using nothing more than the Blackblood club, haste potion, and many RoR heals.

Valthrix - 3rd SoA update (final)

At the bridge district, I finished up the murderer issue, and I took the human flesh and the gesen bow shaft, not sure if you guys know this, but if you are some sort of multi or dual mage that can wear the human flesh, you can still cast spells.

This is interesting information. I didn't know...

Sorry to see Valthrix fall. You were making great progress.
Like the others I would say that Valthrix is probably better up to the job of dragon slaying than a Cavalier. Actually for my playstyle a Fighter/Mage (and hopefully my current Swashmage multi) is probably the best character for almost all encounters. I'm quite a physical player rather than a caster so I'd play a multiclass instead of a dual. I like to use as little magic as possible, just the necessary buffs and debuffs and then use my blades to slice up my enemies.
Maybe a (kitted) Fighter/Mage multi, a gnomish Fighter/Illusionist or a Blade could be options for you? Though perhaps after playing a Fighter/Mage you're more interested in playing a completely different character class/kit.

The tragic demise of Valthrix is sad to hear, Mr Goldbeard. I do hope your next character can get a revenge on the red dragon.

Fighter/mages fare pretty well against a dragon. My solution is usually to stock up on PfMW spells/scrolls. Considering most dragons run short on debuffs quickly, one is practically invulnerable while under PfMW for 4 rounds! For me 4 of these cheesy spells is usually enough to kill a dragon. (there's dragon breath to worry about too, though it often is easily countered).

Wizard Slayer again! This time an offspring - second generation Wizard Slayer, member of a famous Yoriksson family. I consider it more of a training try than a serious one, I still feel shaky with pure fighters, but I will do my best. Without further ado, please welcome!

Yorik the Second, ruthless Wizard Slayer (level 8). Update No. 1.

Yorik began the journey in BG1 and was transferred to the second part of the saga. The plan was to beeline and so did he. Yorik fought with a bunch of scared cretures, convinced the golem to open him the doors, killed Lesser Clay Golems, dealt with Otyugh receiving not even one hit, helped Dryads get their Acorns, moved to the second floor, There with a help of Imoen he destroyed Mephits' cages, killed a clone, freed and immediately finished a doppelganger, killed duergars, ran past assassins to finally watch Imoen being taken away. The dwarf rested in the inn, sold the loot, bought Scroll Case and a couple of scrolls (protection from poison and undead). Answering correctly to the djinni's riddle levelled up Yorik (level 9). My wizard slayer proceeded to end Kalah's show in the circus, reunite a lost child with his mother. Selling loots from the adventure let the dwarf buy full plate mail (-5 AC now, woohoo!).

Yorik heard out Gaelan's suggestion, on his way to Copper Coronet he brushed up two street thugs, rested for a night in the bar, beat another thug in the arena, served some justice to Llynis, bought Helm of Charm Protection in Temple District,  changed the management staff of Copper Coronet (I placed Yorik at the doors so he would fight only two enemies at once). This self-righteous wanna-be paladin just stood there and did nothing while Yorik was giving punches, heh typical. After all the fuss anded, my hero bought the twin axes - Stonefire and Azuredge.

I ended the session there. A short one today for I have not much time. Yorik is still pretty frail. He needs to acquire crucial weapons.

EDIT: I forgot to mention I had installed a Wizard Slayer Rebalancing mod. Here's a readme: http://avenger981.gi...readme_wsr.html

Good luck Alaestr with your wizard slayer. By the way, there's never any need to buy full plate if solo fighter. Just go to Sea's Bounty and kill Officer Dirth, he will be happy to provide his full plate to you. You don't aggro anyone in the room by fighting him. You can spend your cash on something else this way. You don't lose any reputation either. If you ever think you might recruit Nalia later, just put her quest items in a barrel or something (Dirth is part of her personal quest).

Yorik the Second, ruthless Wizard Slayer (level 9). Update No.2.

The session started by obtaining Lilarcor (the pesky petrification trap juked by walking around it). I had thought for quite some time, what Yorik should do next and I had come to the conclusion the best course of action was to grab Arbane as soon as possible and then flee to Temple Ruins. Trolls posed a serious threat to Yorik due to his low AC, not to mention very annoying strength drain of Spirit Trolls which were bound to hang around and most of the quests in the city force to resist high level mages. So I decided to complete easy quests in Athkatla and then hurry my dwarf to Umar Hills. Let us see how I managed to execute this plan.

Freshly rested Yorik took Graveyard as his next destination. He travelled there undisturbed. Then he found a new guardian to an orphan girl, failed to defend young citizen against his undead uncle, helped an unfortunate man who was buried alive, gave back a stuffed bear to a lost ghost child, cleared some of the crypts in Graveyard (level 10), killed the crypt king (interrupted Horror by exiting the location). On the way to Bridge District, Suna Seni attacked Yorik. He immediately cast Horror, which thankfully scared the wizard. Wizard Slayer immediately focused Suna and got the kill within two rounds (lucky me, eh?). Encouraged by this succes Yorik continued his assault - killed the thief, the warrior. Enemies snapped out from their fear, my hero tried to cast Horror again, but it had no effect. Yorik fled to a corner of the map, killed the archer with throwing Azuredge, juggled Arbane, Lilarcor and Helm of Charm Protection when needed. The mage cast 2 Chromatic Orbs, 2 Magic Missiles. The priest was more dangerous - he was the one casting charms, rigid thinkings and holds. The dward prevailed thanks to 3 Potions of Extra Healing. Mates, the loots!

Yorik solved the murder mysteru in Bridge District (left Rune Assassins), busted the blackmailers, freed Viconia, rescued Renfeld (Silence from Namarra silenced the wizard), stole a necklace of Talos High Priestess for Mae'Varr, returned Renfeld to the Harpers, destroyed Fallen Paladins, bought Rod of Resurrection,

Yorik had taken a quick detour to kill Genies (Scroll of Protection from Petrification and silence from Namarra; also level 11), before he arrived in Umar Hills. There he mediated between ogres and the mayor, he killed mimic (there was one grave moment when mimic held Yorik - I was wondering why and it turned out I forgot to equip Shield of Harmony; whoops), acquired Valygar's body the  bloody way, saved one careless mage. Tired he slept and then moved his camp to Temple Ruins.

Clearing the ruins went smoothly. Yorik was too low level to encounter the liches. Returning old bones to a ghost advanced the dwarf to level 12. Yorik read scroll of Protection from Undead to kill Shade Lord withour a fight. He came to Athkatla to sell the loots.

I ended afternoon session there to eat dinner.

Yorik the Second, ruthless Wizard Slayer (level 12). Update No.3.

Yorik set out to complete quests in Athkatla. He started by shattering Zhentarian network. Yorik commenced the fight by silencing Prebek, then used Shatter Magic (it dispells combat protections on hit for 2 rounds, but it nullifies WS's magic resistance bonus) and meleed Prebek and the same combo made a short work of Sanasha. The dwarf robbed Harpers, fulfilled the task given by Edwin, watched Xzar die (level 13), extorted the documents from Marcus, faked Embarl's death, delivered incriminating documents to Renal, wedged himself between crates to safely kill Mae'Varr, returned to Renal to gather xp, travelled to Watcher's Keep and bought Firetooth.

It was time Yorik had tackled the troll problem in the DeArniseKeep. With -9 AC, Stonefire he was mowing through troll steadily. He received level 14 killing Otyugh. The dwarf lowered the drawbridge, killed the Yuanti Mage (silence with Namarra, the mage managed to cast only PfMW, so Yorik meleed him with a normal axe -Shatter Magic his initial stoneskin and contingencied one), killed golems leaving only Clay and Iron Golem, killed Glaicus (DUHM, Mirror Images from Ilbratha were enough), completed FoA, killed Clay Golem (ufortunately got cursed), Firetoothed Iron Golem while protected with Scroll of Poison Protection, meleed with FoA two remaining rooms before Torgal and left the big guy for later. Yorik came back to Athkatla to cure his cursed wound, he cleared Graveyard's underground (Pai'Na included), attacked slaver compound (Namarra was used on the mages and Shatter Magic helped quickening the fight), received level 15 killing mages in the compound, overran Mencar's party, sold loot, bought Fortress Shield.

I ended the session on arrival in Druid Grove.

Jet is continuing from Baldur's gate to Amn, but once again I'm playing with a party rather than a solo. One of my goals is to use NPCs I usually don't play with or try, thus the shenanigans that follow. Imoen, Jaheira, Minsc, and Yoshimo are all picked up and we quickly make our way out of the dungeon without any major mishaps: Jaheira gained a level, but that's kind of irrelevant since she and Minsc are instantly disbanded as soon as we break the surface. Due to my different NPC motif, neither Aerie nor Jaheira are options for divine casters, and I consider divine casters requirements for party play. The only ones nearby are Viconia and Anomen, and since I wanted to try Neera's romance at the same time... Anomen it was. Nalia was initially picked up for the additional 10k gold she'd give us for rescuing her keep, and Neera was discovered and she joined as well in Wild Forest.

So with this party of five, we set off: I'm immediately met with disaster as I didn't think to check for traps in a forest and Neera, Nalia, and Anomen are burnt to a crisp by a repeating fireball trap. (...) One visit to the temple district and two rests later, Anomen finishes raising the two mages. Nalia bugs me about her keep, so off we go to fight some trolls. This went well until we came across the first Yuan-ti mage. Dual castings of Chaos ended up with Nalia, Yoshimo and Anomen all falling from friendly fire and the remaining trolls; Jet recovered eventually and the fact that he's an archer ended that mage's life quickly. The two remaining survivors quickly skedaddle from the scene, Neera using Invisibility and Jet just stealthing on the roof; drawbridge is dropped, and we escape the scene to head back to the Temple district for another batch of Raise Deads.

... As you can tell, this is going splendidly so far... At least in this next part no mistakes are made. Anomen's sister is murdered, and I'm just reminded how much of a douche the guy is... He really reminds me of Roy's speech against Miko here; "You're not Good, at least not any definition of Good I want to follow." No, really, for someone trying to be basically a paladin... His concern for sentient creatures is basically nothing. It's disgusting. Anyways, enough about just how awful Anomen's personality is; I chose the Good path for him, though making him fall to Chaotic Neutral was tempting with just how irritating he was. On the way back to Nalia's keep, we encountered the Renfeld ambush, so the Harper business was finished up first before heading back to the keep. Prebek got no spells off; his compatriot fared not much better as she got off one minor buff before she died to a hail of arrows courtesy of Jet.

The keep is finished with more mishaps; the only unqualified success was casting a Dispel on top of that servant dude that has the last of the three heads. I then decided to attempt to take a few weapons from the statues... Bad idea. Immunity to anything but blunt weapons with only two +1 quarterstaffs that could hit them? Yeah... A few near-death experiences there, though nobody actually fell due to Nalia and Neera tag-teaming the golems with their Stoneskins. The FoA is completed at last. Everything else, while not easy, isn't spectacularly disastrous; Yoshimo had to be raised again, but Torgal is smushed between two Skeleton warriors and an Aerial servant, magical arrows continually pinging him throughout as well.

Wild Forest is navigated with no further mishaps from the traps; nothing much else is done there, and I'm starting to wonder if Neera's side quests are going to actually be... interesting as some point. Retrieving 8 elusive cats that can then RUN AWAY is not my idea of interesting. >.> Final thing I've accomplished was going to Umar and solving everything there; Mazzy was picked up temporarily, but then dropped as soon as the quest was over as she was one of my staples in my past two runs.

We return to a blitz of messages: the side-offer from the vampires, a summon for Anomen, Nalia's father's funeral, and Gaelen's reduction in price. Will pick those up eventually, and I'm still trying to figure out who should be my 6th permanent member (possibly two members actually; Nalia's kind of redundant with Imoen and Neera. Currently, my party is Jet as an Archer, Anomen, Nalia, Yoshimo, and Neera, and I'm basically banned from using Aerie, Jaheira, and Mazzy. Suggestions?

I'll take that into account, corey; Keldorn's starting to look like a good choice, especially after these interesting events...

Jet the sniper; mark 2

Various side quests are finished; Nalia's kidnapped and restored, and Rejeik's been found out and fought for the first time without a hitch. Fought the battle against those mercenaries in the inn, though I forgot what that encounter is usually called. Had a few problems in there with a PW:Stun on Yoshimo, but stone skinned mages really aren't troublesome with a 4 APR archer hitting at 0 THAC0. The continuation of Neera's quest is down the stairs, and the red wizard + help is also blown to bits by basically one chaos spell + arrows.

Curious to pursue the quest line, I go back to the encampment only to be sent to the Red mage enclave. Mages. Lovely. Battles are dangerous now as a single bad spell might be the end, and it nearly was. Didn't make any mistakes until the last battle; Yoshimo was confused and then killed in the first half of the two-part battle. Anomen summoned his Aerial servant and one skeletal warrior and opened the door for the second half. Lanneth buffs, Anomen casts Silence and to my great surprise it works. This isn't as game-ending as I had hoped since she still had at least 3 invisibility potions and I had no invisibility detection... And she had a wand of paralysis which she managed to snag Jet with to avoid the death-by-pointy-sticks fate of her brothers and sisters. Lovely.

All my stone skins eventually fell to the now-meleeing Red mage; she goes to Near Death before she drinks her first Invisibility potion and skedaddles. Anomen gets hit by a Hold spell from the second wizard and is killed; the Aerial servant is still alive. And then I make an idiotic move and think I'll go help the servant by having Nalia cast a Stinking Cloud into the area. It's immune, right?

Right, but it's still forced to make a save vs one of my spells... and turns hostile just as another Wand of Paralysis charge stuns Jet. Uh-oh. It becomes a race; can my two mages do anything fast enough to save my PC? Answer: no. He survived not due to their effort but to his massive HP pool, coming within 10 HP of death before snapping out of the stun and quaffing a potion. A bit of kiting later and only Lanneth remained, a door neatly in place between the two of us. Remember, she now has her entire spell book since she couldn't cast under Silence. Not wanting to give away the victory, I did the only thing I could think of that was a guaranteed win: Nalia used Polymorph self into Jelly, and was immune. Stinking cloud from Neera put Lannaeth to sleep and the 3 managed to take her down before she could wake back up. Two rez later and fin.

Off to Trademeet, standard stuff... Until Anomen is not only killed but perma-killed by a druid casting Call Lightning; it hit a second time for 35 and 43 damage simultaneously. It didn't seem to be a typical chunk since I think I ended up keeping all his gear (or does that only apply on disintegration/petrify and break?) I had trouble with Faldorn the first time after that, but the game crashed on the following cutscene so I got to battle it again with an easy success. Cernd is thus going to be a permanent part of the team to satisfy the divine spam I'll need (heals!) to survive.

I'm actually not too sad to see Anomen go; the guy's an utter jerk, even as Lawful Good. :P

Lightning's OK, but you also have a chance of losing items to a frozen death - which is a signficant drawback to spells like cone of cold and chill touch.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 43 - (update 7)
Waltz, half-elf bard (Grond0) & Hallie, halfling swashbuckler (Gate70)

One final area today saw this pair off to Brynnlaw.

After they reported to Garren Windspear they headed to the Planar Sphere.  Most encounters there were straightforward, though Hallie did take considerable damage a couple of times - against Lavok and then the noble efreeti in the fire area.  There was an amusing moment in getting the demon heart: Hallie had set traps before moving forward with a trio of skeleton warriors for company (with a plan of dragging the demon back into traps).  However, it's path into melee was blocked by a group of imps and it retreated.  Waltz was speculating that perhaps it was taking the long way round and a skeleton warrior should go back as a rear-guard - that speculation was confirmed as a series of thumps showed the demon entering the trap field (it didn't make it out).

The Twisted Rune and Guarded Compound were left for now, but there was a final bit of shopping (including Vecna for Waltz as HLAs became active in the sphere) before leaving for Brynnlaw.  A couple of traps and a whack from Hallie took care of Perth before he knew what was happening.  Waltz examined his book and quickly found a wyvern summoning spell - she attempted to keep that, but realised when she first tried to use it that the book was still geared to page turning and the spell available currently is true seeing.

Moving straight to Spellhold Waltz's wisdom suffered still more in a dream, but her sharp intelligence still allowed her to solve the riddles to get a ring of regeneration as a poor woman's substitute for Gaxx.  There were no particular problems fighting through the first level, where the session ended.

Stats (cont from BG1):

Waltz, bard 25, 102 HPs (incl 12 from familiar), 520 kills
Hallie, swashbuckler 25, 85 HPs (incl. 5 from Helm), 630 kills, 2 deaths

Yorik the Second, ruthless Wizard Slayer (level 15th). Update No. 4.

Too long druids had oppressed the poor people of Trademeet. Yorik decided to end this tyrany - he travelled to Druid Grove and started mowing through the hordes of trolls. He cleared Troll Mound, killed Rakshasas, putting down grizzly bears got him to level 16, taught Dalok a lesson, let the Cernd fight for his grove. Yorik was welcomed as a hero in Trademeet, he continued to finish all the quests in Trademeet before venturing forth.

Yorik came back to Athkatla to sell the loots, acquire illithium, give Sarles the alloy and gave it to the temple, completed the Aran questline (level 17 - Spell Save = 0), attacked vampire HQ, but first beelined to Mace of Disruption, upgraded it and then came back (had to visit a temple too - got drained), resumed the assault, used Mirror Images to juke the spike traps in the oval room, killed Bodhi (had to break a fight to gulp a bunch of healing potions), killed Rune Assasssins (level 18), won the argument with Riavan Mercenaries,  cleared the way to the temple lich. I wanted to defeat liches next as well as deal with Torgal, but Yorik had no answer to Fear Aura emitted by either of these creatures (liches summon demons who have the ability). I figured my dwarf needs Dragonslayer, thus I steered him towards Windspear Hills.

Yorik made short work of the initial party, he then gave back the acorns and dived deep into Firkraag's dungeon. My wizard slayer Firetoothed orcs, golems, killed the cook, disposed of vampires (level 19), overran shadows, played for a while with an elemental from the well, grabbed Heartseeker, exposed wounded wolfweres (level 20 - WW), completed the mast and shattered Samia's party (I rested quite a bit while killing guardians in order to save PfF scrolls; Yorik spent first round of fight with Samia silencing and positioning himself, he used 3 potions and WW to deal with a mage, MI and Haste to kill warriors). I chose to visit the city at that point to sell the loots, buy Defender of Easthaven, identify other items. Then Yorik resumed his adeventuring - killed Tazok (prioritized killing Tazok), defeated Conster, escorted Garren's daughter (level 21 - GWW).

It was time to kill liches. Yorik took my usual order - gate lich, bridge lich, temple lich, Kangaxx. The dwarf has 6 PfU scrolls, so I didn't worry about running out. Yorik ran into some resistance from gate lich - he had to use 3 PfU scrolls (Remove Magics, can't juke them in close quarters), but finally the lich succumbed to Azuredge. Temple lich likes to invisible himself, so Yorik lured him out with Ras. Gaxx was pretty straightforward despite him summoning a demon. Yorik read scroll of protection from lightning and meleed the demon with Dragonslayer (to protect against his Fear Aura). Yorik can't weat the ring, but exp was nice.

Next target was a party in temple sewers. Again begun the fight with silencing twice and meleeing with Daystar (Yorik has 5 pips in Long Swords). Used Shatter Magic (dispells combat protections on hit - skill from WS Rebalancing) when needed and GWW. Guys couldn't do anything to Yorik who showed superior damage. While still in the sewers Yorik stopped by Mekrath's. Sadly, the host didn't survive the visit, Yorik released Haer'dalis and took the gem.

Torgal's reign had to come to an end. The prophet foresaw it would be Yorik who would deal the killing blow. It would have happened, hadn't Torgal bugged out and literally disappear. The amount of bugs I am constantly experiencing during that fight is too high - last run Torgal copied himself, now he disappears.. Well, Yorik left the keep but despite Torgal disappearance Nalia wouldn't believe the dwarf had the job done. Some exp lost. Nothing major. Nevertheless he levelled up to 22th (GWW)

Session end left Yorik in Waukeen Promenade where he was selling the loots.

Jet, level 12 Archer; third and final update

We finish up the first of the Ranger stronghold quests, and as it turns out, the only one I get to as I stayed underground fighting vampires too long to receive word that they were under attack. The vampire lair is cleared with summons and an Amulet of Power'd Valygar in front; Fire elementals are as beast as ever. We make a quick stop to buy Tasheron's bow for Jet in preparation of enemies requiring the +3 to hit before leaving for Spellhold. Nothing interesting happened here besides Perth completely failing to cast anything before arrows broke his stoneskin and later his regular skin. Cernd was held and killed on the way up to the hold, but Umberlee raises him.

So... here's where my first major mistake happens. Valygar gets killed by a Clay golem (I. Hate. These. Things. I need to bring warriors with blunt weapons just for these suckers) and I realize that I don't actually have a way to raise him; skipping HaerDalis means I also skipped the free RoR and Cernd's not high enough level to cast level 7s yet. Urgh. Spellhold just got a lot deadlier...

Imoen was the next to fall in a mass Umber Hulk battle where her Stoneskins fell while she was confused. And then Cernd was... disintegrated, I think, reaching for a painting on the next level. No more mistakes on the level, but that one was bad enough. Finally Jet escapes, but alas, it's not to be as Nalia is PW-Kill'd by Lonk the Sane and then Lonk casts Flesh to Stone which Jet fails against. So ironically the only survivor in a prison meant for mages is... Neera, the wild mage.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 43 - (update 8)
Waltz, half-elf bard (Grond0) & Hallie, halfling swashbuckler (Gate70)

A session yesterday saw some fairly rapid progress from this duo, though they had to overcome a couple of problems.

The enemies on the second level of Spellhold all went down easily, though Hallie was injured quite severely by traps when getting the pictures to open various doors.  For the confrontation with Jon Waltz gave him an opening whack with Carsomyr before retreating.  He did manage a ADHW on Hallie, but Waltz kept him vulnerable with dispelling arrows and Hallie was able to finish him off.

After a shipwreck they arrived in the City-of-Caverns.  Hallie detrapped the area round the spectator before trying to convince it to desert its post.  It refused and died in traps as a result.  The Cloak of Mirroring was picked up on the way to the Prince.  He was far too slow to arrive before the King was dead and Hallie swiftly punished him for his tardiness - to provide a nice range of ropes to use in descending to the Underdark.

A drow greeting party, myconids, a balor and the occupants of a giant soul gem were all easy meat, but a visit to the kuo-toa tunnels proved more of a challenge.  Waltz's buffs were stripped by anti-magic from a beholder, allowing some kuo-toa to charm her - fortunately Hallie was able to usher her away (i.e chase her) to safety.  The demon knights found traps too much for them and the Prince quickly died after Hallie polluted his water with some tainted tadpoles.  However, the drow on the exit gate caused another problem when Hallie found her HPs insufficient to ward off a PW: stun.  Waltz used her last arrow of dispelling to try and remove that effect, but (surprisingly) that didn't work.  Hallie would have died long before Waltz could kill the opponents, but she managed to make Hallie invisible just in time to save her

Invisible.jpg

and the PW: stun wore off to allow Hallie to get away just before one of the drow cast true seeing.  A bit of running and fighting then finally allowed two battered girls to finish off the opposition.

The final action of the session was in the beholder hive.  The duo entered invisibly and quickly ran out of sight of the elder orb before sending in summons to deal with it.  The game crashed here, but there were no problems in doing the same again from the autosave.  The rest of the beholders will be waiting for next time.

Stats (cont from BG1):

Waltz, bard 25, 102 HPs (incl 12 from familiar), 520 kills
Hallie, swashbuckler 25, 85 HPs (incl. 5 from Helm), 630 kills, 2 deaths

Yorik the Second, ruthless Wizard Slayer level 22. Update No.5 and Finale.

As a new day beckoned its brightness on Athkatla, I considered Yorik's options. There were quite a few locations he hadn't been to: Planar Sphere and Prison, dragons to kill, Illithids in Temple Sewers, Guarded Compound. I figured Planar Sphere was the easiest one, so Yorik marched there briskly. He didn't march far, when bloodthirsty halflings ended his life. Once again my character died to a PW:Stun. I made a few mistakes - should have equipped Arbane when I was near 90, should have used GWWs aggresively to deal with warriors. I tried to ensure spellcasting failure on mages in the first rounds of a fight, but Yorik was receiving too much damage to ignore warriors and an archer. I also tried to heal out of the range, but the damage from the archer and the priest halfling was too high - should have used RoR. I hope I don't come out as a person trying to excuse their mistakes, it is an analysis of my actions, their consequences and what I could do to prevent my character's death.

It was a fun run. Definetely more succesful than my first Wizard Slayer, but my favourite character is still some kind of a fighter/mage. Might try pure Berserker next time. It would be a nice change - being able to use all the items.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 43 - (update 9)
Waltz, half-elf bard (Grond0) & Hallie, halfling swashbuckler (Gate70)

Today's session saw the duo quickly through the remaining SoA challenges.

The session started with finishing off the beholder hive, with traps featuring heavily as well as Waltz exposing himself as a target to soak up some beholder rays (the damaging ones bouncing off the cloak of mirroring).  On to the illithid lair where Hallie, boosted by spirit armour, could only be hit by criticals.  She only once saw her intelligence fall to single figures as she mowed down the opposition.

After a quick visit with Adalon some tasks in the drow city were rapidly completed.  The only hint of danger was against Qilue where Hallie initially was made to run in terror.  Waltz sang a song to make her feel better, but then suffered the same misfortune herself - but Hallie soon finished off the servants on her own.  Rather than bother hiding after switching the eggs round Hallie showed off a bit by junking a group of golems without suffering a hit herself.  After watching the Matron Mother and Phaere receive nasty surprises from a summoned demon the duo returned Adalon's eggs - leaving her in peace to enjoy them.

Back in Athkatla they consolidated equipment and forged Crom Faeyr and Gesen.  The intention was to make the Wave as well, but the shaft had gone walkabout somewhere.  The Twisted Rune proved easy, with Shangalar being trapped before Hallie meleed Vaxall.  Layene was exposed by true seeing and debuffed by Carsomyr, allowing Hallie to finish her off.  The Guarded Compound also proved quick.  Waltz ran a nice ploy by aiming a scorcher at Sion - that bounced off his spell turning so that two scorchers affected the others as Waltz ran round.  The vampire hunt was then conducted successfully; Hallie took plenty of damage from traps in the spike room, but very little from any of the vampires (including Bodhi).

In Suldanesselar Waltz showed herself to a Nabassu with the intention of killing it with 2 traps when it came to investigate.  She was duly paralysed and might have been embarrassed when the Nabassu only approached close enough to trigger one of the traps - but Hallie was quickly there to finish it off.  The other nasty moment was against Nizi when both ladies were hit by insects - the damage rapidly mounting as a result of their improved haste.  A consequence of that was that Waltz took her first healing potion for a very long time while running round trying to look like a tasty dragon-sized snack.  Nizi eventually took the bait and approached close enough to trigger a line of traps.

On the tree Jon failed to put up much of a struggle - taking just a moment of two to realise that there was no way he could survive the impact of 7 spike traps.

In the hell trials Waltz showed herself to be a goodie-goodie.  The battle with Sarevok there was a bit more difficult than it should have been when she tried and failed to cast stoneskin - having to quickly remedy that as Sarevok's sword started carving her up.  The final battle with Jon though was simple.  Some pre-laid traps killed all the demons and true seeing and dispels kept Irenicus off balance and, while he was occupied with a couple of skeleton warriors, Hallie pushed him off a cliff into hell.

Stats (cont from BG1):

Waltz, bard 35, 120 HPs (incl 12 from familiar), 636 kills
Hallie, swashbuckler 35, 105 HPs (incl. 5 from Helm), 875 kills, 2 deaths
