Corslinger the halfling fighter - update 4

Just a quick update. The team has successfully negotiated Spellhold, the City of Caverns, and the Kuo-Toa Lair (including the demon knights). However, we ran into a setback in the Beholder's Lair - the beholders did a sunfire, and next thing I know Joshua the half-orc Kensai is CHUNKED! We lost all his equipment too. He had like 135 HP, I don't see how a sunfire could have possibly have chunked him. I suspect what happened is one beholder petrified him, and the sunfire caused him to be chunked. This is the stuff lost:

* Sword of North

* Lilacor

* Cloak of Displacement

* free action ring

* +1 protection ring

* +1 AC ioun stone

* martial staff

* boomerang dagger

* boots of avoidance

I can't swap in the Underdark of course, so will just have to make do. Not sure who to replace, but who-ever it is, must be either full or part fighter. The good news was Forrest and Corslinger encountered an elder orb who tried imprisonment - Forrest enraged and charged, and Corslinger gulped a potion of magic protection, putting his magic resist to 75 - it targeted Forrest, and of course Forrest was immune...just to be safe, Corslinger continued his attacks with his sling, then the duo cleared the rest of the lair without further incident - close call.

Doing Illithid lair next.

EDIT: actually didn't lose free action ring, but the regen ring from Spellhold. Also lost shield amulet.

EDIT, EDIT: lost genie lamp too

Magic resistance for a vanilla WS is 1% per level up to 19, then alternates between 5% and 1% thereafter - potentially getting up to 84%.  Use of equipment can then get you over 100%.  That becomes even easier in ToB where you can make use of the 10% extra from the Amulet of Seldarine (as a protagonist you can also get extra MR from the Hell trials, but that won't help Paja).

Just wondering. Does the magic resistance of being a drow stack with this using the sub-race mod?

Corslinger the hafling fighter - update 5

The team has successfully negotiated the Illithid City - however, we nearly were wiped out. In the hardest battle, I forgot to have two characters use the brine potion who weren't immune to the spam stuns, and crazily forgot to gulp some haste potions - as a result, Forrest and Corslinger were dying too fast - I had to retreat and gulp some genius potions, and the party was getting killed - Hanna and Corslinger managed to survive - close call.

BloodyaffairinIllithidCity-threefifthsof

We also battle the drow party guarding the way to Ust Natha - they were destroyed simply enough - we ended session at entrance to Adalon's Lair.

I don't know - I've never used a drow.  Presumably you can test easily enough by generating a new character and levelling them up with the console.

My level 8 drow wizard slayer has a magical resistance of 72. Any drow at that level would have a magical resistance of 66. So the answer is that they do stack but there is a slight discrepancy though not enough to cause concern.

I am thinking however that with this resistance, are the advantages of being a wizard slayer sufficient to choose that kit over another for a drow fighter?

Corslinger and his band of fighters - update 6

Corslinger agreed to help Adalon - but she didn't know Corslinger's master plan. We went to the drow city, obtained items we wanted like the Sentinel Shield, obtained the first task, rescue Phaere, then battled the party blocking our way. The only reason we battled these guys, however was for the halberd +4 for Mazzy. Hanna only has 2 snares, but she laid them down and she did a great job, her snares accounting for 4 enemies, the rest were easy.

Then, instead of helping Soulafein, we went to Adalon's Lair. Everyone stayed at entrance, except Forrest, who via scroll and items obtained 100% cold resistance - however he nearly goofed it up, as he resisted a pro cold scroll! I thought that didn't happen in BG 2, hmm. I took off his magic resist gear, then the last scroll worked. He also used a haste potion and attacked Adalon. His dwarven hammer did zero damage the entire fight...hmmm. He did the main job of luring Adalon to the entrance - she is too big to reach Forrest in melee. Then Hanna and Mazzy attacked with their range weapons which DID hurt Adalon - took quite a while but victory and no casualty!

Baldr136_zpsd19a74ea.png

Someone may ask why did we fight this good dragon? Because we wanted to forge the flesh armor for Paja - which we did, since we immediately exited the Underdark and got her armor, after lots of rests...

I decided I wouldn't replace Joshua right now, but will get Sarevok in ToB. So we get a few last items from Ribald and battle Bodhi in the graveyard (or her vamps anyways) - no sweat! We pressed into Bodhi's Lair and was doing good mostly, until tragedy struck - I foolishly did not equip a charm protection helmet on Hanna and she was charmed! As I usually do for thus (I had no way to dispel - the only way would be dispelling arrows, which Hanna had thus no access to them). This normally would have been fine - but Drizzt apparently is too stupid to know the charm will wear off, and decides to ChUNK Hanna!!!  Argghh!

The survivors then recruit the shadow thieves (so they can de-trap two traps for us, as we have no clue what those traps are) and return. Bodhi and her ambush was destroyed extremely fast and with minimal buffs to boot. Decided not to recruit anyone yet, as anyone we get will be extremely under leveled, we will wait to ToB, we certainly don't need any help to deal with Irenicus.

We report to Elhan and battle in Suldanenessar. I tried a new strategy here and it was working fantastic. Since Corslinger and Forrest are dual wielding and both have Gaxx rings, I had them activate Gaxx haste when dealing with any groups of golems - the duo took minimal damage and destroyed the pesky golems fast, was very nice. We didn't have trouble with the other enemies, though still some left. We rested at the dragon with the goblet's lair, and will deal with them next session.

Okay, I have my new setup be set and ready so Impish Face enter the second part of Trilogy.

Setup: Ascension, SCS2 v.21 (nearly all components but sans *Improved Irenicus in Hell* - I think, I'm not ready for that...yet   :blush: ), aTweaks v.4.32 (nearly all components as well - I need to try them all first to decide whether I like them or not),  Polytweak v.2 (can't wait for v.3 to be released... :rolleyes: ), some BG2 Tweaks and Item Randomiser v.6.8.

Difficulty: Core.

Will use my usual team of Jaheira, Viconia, Nalia (tweaked by Polytweak into Swashbuckler/Mage), Mazzy and Imoen.

Here is my current (new) WeiDU (I'll put it in the signature as well):

Spoiler

I think, it's pretty suicidal setup for me but I have long been interested in those mods and that is a nice way to test my mettle and skills so... *Gods, bless my Crew!*

All the best Serg. Will read with interest. I'll be a while before I join you as I want to try the Drizzt Saga with my own party rather than with the mod party. With the changes to Drizzt, you have to complete Durlag's Tower before doing it. :(

You have an interesting set-up. Mine will be even longer!

Corslinger the halfling fighter - FINAL BG 2 Update!

Traveling with: Forrest (berserker), Mazzy (fighter), Paja (wizard slayer)

The party has defeated Nizi, mainly with the help of dispelling arrows - with no defenses, Forrest and Corslinger do huge damage to Nizi.

CorslingerdefeatsNizi_zpsf1799fa6.png

We battled in Rillifane's Temple, took some heal potions but no deaths so all good there. At the Tree of life, no deaths there, Corslinger was protected by pro magic scroll. In Hell, Corslinger does all the good routes - the pro magic scroll is still active so Corslinger and Forrest take out the beholders, Forrest protected by enrage and shield of balduran.

We do a few buffs for Irenicus, mainly invulnerability potions, potions of magic protection for Forrest and Mazzy, potions of fire, and resist fear and hardiness for Corslinger - and the group engages Irenicus and the demons. Everyone did very well except Paja, who was taking a huge beating and she needed a RoR heal, otherwise the demons were defeated.

The team then searches for Irenicus and tries to put a beat down on him - his defenses protect him for a while, but eventually he runs out of Protection from Magic Weapons, but when he does, he can do nothing but die. No deaths here either.

CorslingerdefeatsIrenicus_zpsf1d02c19.pn

We will definitely recruit more help in ToB, thinking of Jaheira (since she's part fighter) and Sarevok - since Hanna got chunked, Sarevok will immediately dual to thief.

Corslinger the halfling fighter - 1st ToB Update

Traveling with: Forrest (berserker), Paja (Wizard Slayer), Sarevok (fighter dualed to thief), Jaheira (fighter/thief), Mazzy (fighter)

Corslinger's team easily defeated Illsaera.

Corslinger has completed the Saradush quests. I often skip the sewers, but we did it this time for experience for Sarevok. A number of mages did maze - I am scratching my head, wondering how in the world did Picenon survive down here, I remember him fighting here - he was a solo fighter/thief, and maze is real bad for a solo player. I used AI for most fights, although we did Gaxx haste and hardiness when appropriate. We had defeated Gromnir but Melissan never appeared! I went downstairs and upstairs looking for a survivor or something, but nada. So I had to reload to do it again - well I loaded an auto-save and who immediately appears but Melissan! Whew, glad I didn't have to do it over.

Next session will be in the wilderness leading to Yaga's Home.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 46 - (update 1)
Tweedle, dwarf fighter (Grond0) & Guarh, dwarf fighter (Gate70)

This pairing have made a good start to their adventures in Ahtkatla.

After escaping from the dungeon they quickly restored the circus, before reporting to Gaelan Bayle.  Fighting Cohrvale and Bregg got them both to level 9, but Guarh took quite a bit of damage in the process.  Thus, after watching Hendak one-shot Lehtinan, he went to get an armour upgrade from Officer Dirth.  Tweedle took plenty of damage of his own in the Suna Seni ambush, but got an armour upgrade of his own in the process and was only lightly scratched when saving Renfeld.

After returning Renfeld, Guarh used the RoAC to attack Prebek and Sanasha without response - allowing the duo to loot the Harper building.  While in the area they started the Mae'Var quests and went to the temple area to get the priestesses necklace.  While waiting for night there they  dealt with the sea troll and got a cloak for Guarh from the rakshasa.

In the Bridge area they got the berserker horn and solved the skinner murders - fighter HPs allowing them to take down the Rune Assassins safely.  That provided enough money to pay Gaelan Bayle, so Guarh got a further upgrade from the +2 ring before using the RoAC to tank the Fallen Paladins (level 10).  That use incurred a warning from the Cowled Wizards and the next stop was to get a magic license.

Sir Sarles refused to be fobbed off with some dodgy illithium, but the local temple were happy with its qualities.  The duo finished work for the temples by seeking out the Dawn Ring - initially that looked like it wouldn't be possible as Travin didn't appear, but reloading a saved game saw him back in his usual position.

The Copper Coronet sewers were cleared (except for a few growths of fungus) and the slavers were no particular problem.

Lassal was unable to dominate Tweedle (Lilarcor) or Guarh (RoAC) and quickly made his escape before the duo made their way through Rayic's house.  The mage was initially unsure of what to do against Guarh protected by the RoAC, but he had no non-magic weapons and failed to kill the mage before his II ran out.  He was immediately sent running by Symbol: fear.  Tweedle picked his moment to come upstairs and set up the berserk warrior.  He was immediately PW: stunned and then died to FoD.  However, that provided an opening for Tweedle to attack with arrows of fire and they successfully interrupted a couple more spells until Rayic had had enough (Guarh celebrating by continuing to do laps of honour for some time before coming back to his senses).

The assault on Mae'Var's guild was slightly complicated when Guarh entered first - encouraging some thieves to spawn outside near Tweedle and annoy some of the local sailors.  However, that wasn't a great problem and reporting their success got the duo to level 11.

The final action of the day was to take down the Guild contact quickly (ensuring he didn't have time to take either of the invulnerability potions he was carrying).

Stats:

Tweedle, fighter 11, 111 HPs, 265 kills
Guarh, fighter 11, 123 HPs (incl. 5 from helm), 327 kills, 0 deaths

Corslinger the halfling fighter - ToB Update 2

Traveling with: Paja (Wizard Slayer), Forrest (berserker), Sarevok (fighter dualed to thief), Mazzy (fighter), Jaheira (fighter/druid)

The party battled the undead at Nylee's Temple and the many enemies at Yaga's Temple. We did pretty well, but there was a very close call, at one point 3 fire giants homed in on Corslinger, and he got a sliver of life but his potion kicked in a 1/2 second later. He ran away to heal, but the rest of the Fire Temple went pretty smooth, all things considered. Returning to Nylee and her friends was a long time to win, but we did nevertheless - Sarevok died as he got charmed and killed by Forrest.

After resting, we stormed Yaga's Camp - we did pretty good at first, but the mages in the area were doing a lot of damage and Jaheira died - enough was enough, turned off AI and concentrated fire on Yaga Shura and got the job done.

AI was plenty for the Oasis, but as usual lots of potions used up. We didn't do anything in Amkethran except get the item needed for a special ring for Jaheira, which Caspenar made a bit later.

Our first target was Sendai's Enclave - lots of enemies, but the party does well here as well. There wasn't much trouble, except I was very nervous about fighting Diathya directly - usually I use summons, but not much of an option this time - fortunately direct assault worked. Corslinger won the duel with the Captain, and the mind flayers weren't much trouble. We didn't do much buffs, but we did use invulnerability potions on the party members with not the greatest saves and resist fear. The battle took a while, but the battle with Sendai went pretty well, - lots of potions and RoR heals, but the team got it done with no deaths, whew.

CorslingerdefeatsSendai_zps99b302fe.png

Next major challenge was Draconis - we had hardly anything to dispel invisibility, so I knew this was going to be a tough fight - an indeed it was, even the human form gave us heck. Lots of heals going on here, including withdrawals of badly hurt party members until they can get up to speed. But patience and careful play eventually defeated both forms of Draconis.

CorslingerdefeatsDraconis_zpse37476a1.pn

Inside Abazigal's Lair went fairly well, though those strange water creatures hurt Corslinger badly, but he survived once more. We ran out of time, so ended our session here.

Well done Corey - nearly there!

Chim - elven wild mage (update 1)

After her heavy item use in BG1 Chim switched to primarily using spells to escape from the dungeon.  The main tactics were cloudkill and hasted summons, while spirit armour and improved invisibility were used as pre-buffs to get an automatic save against a potential petrification surge (at least once the Claw of Kazgoroth was equipped).

In the event she didn't have too many surges and none of those were potentially deadly.  She got to level 10 by cloudkilling the clone (the +4 HPs meaning she finishes 1.5 HPs below average).  Ulvaryl was killed using the wand of fire (Chim didn't have room to carry that out in her inventory anyway).

Corslinger the halfling fighter - FINAL Update!

Traveling with: Paja (wizard slayer), Forrest (berserker), Sarevok (fighter dualed to thief), Jaheira (fighter/druid), Mazzy (fighter)

Corslinger and team buffed with protection from lighting (green scrolls) on everyone then battled Abazigal - the battle lasted quite a while, but the team managed to pull it off.

CorslingerdefeatsAbazigal_zps827751b7.pn

Next up were the challenges #2, #3 and #4. #2 was defeated by everyone doing GWWs, and #3 and #4 the team prevailed, with Corslinger using a shield for those encounters for the extra defence. We battled our way in Amkethran, found a key and entered Balthazar's Throne Room. It was actually kind of anti-climatic - the team put up GWW, and I think in a single round Balthsazar was defeated - then the Solar summons us and says we just defeated the most powerful Bhaal Spawn - if so, how could he lose a fight in one round?

Next up was the Ravager battle - took a while and Paja died, but we managed to get the victory.

Time for the end - we used every single green scroll we had to buff everyone, with Corslinger getting the preference, of course. Corslinger also used a potion of magic protection. Note to Grond0 - my WS has 81% MR by this point, 71% if not using the sword of balduran - since Melissan requires +4 weapons, the SoB won't be of much help, so she had to use the Answerer. The 1st Melissan fight was rather easy. Next up, 1st pool and this went very smooth.

Trouble 2nd Melissan fight though - Forrest died pretty fast, Sarevok got confused, and Jaheira put unconscious. Corslinger did some good damage, but then he got hit rapidly in succession and was stunned! I I checked his HP it was at 43 - only chance was RoR heal from Paja - she tried it, but he died a millisec before it hit (in fact the final screenshot shows Corslinger resurrected - never seen that before).

Sorry to see resurrection came just too late for Corslinger.  Maybe you should do some more areas with your next WS (or use a smaller party) in order to maximise his level.

@Aasim.  Nice to see a real berserker in action!

That's just it, I did do all areas, except for the bowels of Watcher's Keep. Considering I can't clear WITH reloads, certainly can't clear without. And if the only way to see the potential of a WS is to play a small party, that seems pretty silly - it doesn't say that's needed in the class description. Paja (my WS) was a liability the entire game - everyone was more useful than her. I never saw her interrupt any spells either...also, for most of the game, the berserkers/Corslinger were able to have higher MR resistance than Paja. Many a fight the party would battle, with Paja being disabled in some way.

Note that Paja was an elf, so she suffered a penalty to both CON and saves, so a dwarven WS might perhaps be useful. But I can certainly see why this class is so maligned by players in general...
