Hard luck Corey. My WS is doing OK, but that is possibly because of the mods that I have.

 

Mine is a drow using FinnJo's sub-race mod which gives great magical resistance, 72% at level 8.

 

Of course, being drow means a 10% experience handicap.

 

Some of the equipment that he has are from mods and therefore she can use a necklace that gives Protection from Evil.

I never saw her interrupt any spells either

 

Imo, the problem with WS is the fact that if you can hit a mage, he will be dead soon anyway, regardless if he gets affected by spell failure or not. You can easilly disrupt the spell with elemental damage anyway. The restrictions on item usabilities are insane (no potions aside healing?! wtf? Being a WS doesn't (imo) mean they're half-witted idiots), which in turn makes them the most vulnerable against their arch-nemesis - mages. Even worse, plenty of oponnents in vanilla game force-cast spells, making them immune to the whole "spell failure" thingie. It's a shame a berserker is actually a far better WS than a WS....

Those are good points Aasim. And in fact, a few times my berserker used a potion of magic protection and indeed got his MR much higher than the Wizard Slayer, so the WS didn't even have that going for her...

Taum, 2nd BG2 update

 

We exposed the skinner murderer, and got Ilbratha sword from Umar Hills for the precious Mirror Image 1x/day casting.

Since I wanted Mazzy, returned to Amn, and bought a Magic Shielding potion x2, 3x Secret Word scrolls (Jan failed to learn it..fffs - he will get kicked out the moment I finish WK level 1, Edwin has 19 INT so he will be far less prone to such mishaps) than back to the Shade dungeon. Mazzy was adopted as a ranged expert (GM in shortbows) and an AC tank. We pre-buffed for Shade with 2xNPP (Taum and Kivan), SI:Necromancy for Xan, Haste, and a Potion of Magic Shielding for Taum, to avoid Disintegration from his BBoD.

Fortunately, Xan does know Secret Word, hence uses one on Shade immidiately for his Spell Turning, while Taum, Mazzy and Kivan kill off Patrick.

After collecting reward from Umar Hills, we pay a short visit to WK, kill of Wraith spawns and disarm the damn petrification trap :P ...

Decided to fight Rayic Gethras, so I can swap Jan for Edwin to assemble a very poweful arcane duo (Edwin + sorcerer).

We swap Jan for Edwin, and pay Mae'var a visit. He was the only one not to get confused to Edwin's Chaos.

Taum tried to block the door, but one assassin somehow got through (also not confused, apperantly) and get a stab on Viconia. She dissapears instantly.

Chim - elven wild mage (update 2)
 
There were no surges as Kalah was magic missiled to restore the circus to normal functioning (level 11).
 
Before going to the Slums Chim set cloudkill traps for the Cowled Wizards.  That went pretty well, with only 1 mage from the earlier groups even attempting to take action - and he died anyway when his spell was interrupted by cloudkills.  The only one to escape was Zallanora from the final group - he dimensioned doored out of the cloudkill just before dying.
 
After reporting in to Gaelan Bayle Chim sorted out the Copper Coronet before learning a few spells (with the help of potions of genius) found so far - in particular stoneskin and a spell sequencer scroll found on one of the Cowled Wizards.
 
Travelling invisibly, she came across the Suna Seni ambush.  Despite triggering 4 wild surges from 5 spells at one point her web / cloudkill / skull trap combination proved potent.  She then travelled around until she was able to rescue Renfeld (web and confusion + summons).  With cash in the bank she went to pay Gaelan Bayle and collected Aran Linvail's goodies (not allowing the mad cleric into talking range).
 
It was a good job Chim did pay up there as almost immediately after that a surge destroyed her remaining gold while she was buffing for Prebek.  Eventually she did get in to his house and the mage died of a cloudkill while wondering what to do about Chim's improved invisibility.
 
After looting the Harpers, Chim emerged to find Hareishan on the rampage.  She had to dig into her scroll case for a couple of extra magic missiles to finish her off while summons distracted her.  After re-memorising her summoning spells she found Salia leaving a couple of shadow thieves for her and used them there.  Eventually she did manage to put her summons to the intended use by surrounding Lucette.  That proved to be a waste of time though as even hasted they didn't manage to do quite enough damage to kill her before she disappeared.  Seconds later Sansuki was calling for help, but Chim decided she'd seen enough vampires for one night and just ran away.
 
An orog ambush took her to level 12.  She had to leave most of the loot from that, so had an inventory clear-out back at the Promenade and learnt another batch of spells - including staples like MMM, animate dead and contingency.
 
To improve inventory management further she went to Watcher's Keep and bought a potion case.  She also made use of her sequencer (cast via NRD) for the first time to set up a triple skull trap.  That worked nicely to kill a pair of vampiric wraiths and Chim was able to clear the top level easily enough after that using skeletons and fire elementals to supplement her own powers.  She sold the golem manual (the intelligence of 16 to use seemed too high. compared to her own 11, to bother with).
 
Back in the City she used the funds earned to buy the Robe of Vecna and bracers AC3.

Taum, 3rd BG2 update

 

A short session started by facing Mencar Peeblecrusher's gang. We opened up with Chaos and Ice Storm.

Chaos affected the thief, Xan responded with 10'invisibility, so Viconia will be safe. There's no telling who he will attack. He chose Edwin, who was stoneskined.

En route to Nalia's Keep, we survived Orog ambush, altough Edwin came fairly close to dying after two consecutive lightning bolts. His HP pool allows him to survive one even on a failed save, which cannot be said for Xan.

We decided to fight Torgal head-on. Xan picked up Chain Lightning as his 1st level 6 pick, and isn't afraid to use it.

Yuan-ti brings out heavy artillery - Flesh to Stone on Mazzy. I decide to play it safe, she drinks up the last available Magic Shielding potion we have, unless we find them on bodies the next few can only be bought in Underdark.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 46 - (update 2)
Tweedle, dwarf fighter (Grond0) & Guarh, dwarf fighter (Gate70)
 

The dwarven duo continue to pound their way through BG2, although they hit an unfortunate glitch in today's session.

 

The first port of call was the Graveyard where Pai'Na provided Tweedle with some better headgear.  Use of RoAC by Tweedle meant both fighters had automatic saves against the spider bites.  Moving on to the vampires Tweedle wielded Lilarcor to play target, while Guarh threw in Azuredge to destroy the attackers.  They just collected the MoD and left Tanova for now.

 

After forging the iMoD they released a kidnap victim (not bothering with the fat armour again) and then headed to Watcher's Keep to get a potion case.  The 2 vampiric wraiths made a concerted attack on Tweedle, but the last one fell to Azuredge before things got too critical.  The RoAC allowed Guarh to spring the FoD trap while looting most of the top floor (couldn't open the chest with the +3 dart, but we don't need that anyway).

 

The next stop was the de'Arnise Hold, which was rapidly cleared, only the iron golem doing a lot of damage (though without being threatening).  Glaicas was the last target there and was a victim of Kitthix's web - killing him got the duo to level 12.  Tweedle accepted the stronghold, although is unlikely to spend much time managing it.

 

Back in Athkatla preparations were put in place for a lich hunt.  A green scroll of undead protection + a potion of speed each meant that the liches lasted very little time, while a potion of fire giant strength and DUHM opened doors and containers and another green scroll protected against a petrification trap.  Unfortunately, progress came to a grinding halt against Kangaxx.  That was probably a result of the game refusing to pause after Kangaxx's lich form gave its death speech. That resulted in the lich form receiving further damage before turning into the demi-lich - and the latter did not then appear (leaving an unkillable lich).  Resting and reloading failed to reset the change, so it looks like we'll have to do without his ring for a change.

 

The final action of the day was at Trademeet, which again proceeded very smoothly.  The RoAC was used to defend against the genies' petrification attacks and the efreeti contributed a couple of spells while attacking Kyland Lind.  However, the bulk of the action just saw the fighters ploughing through the opposition.  Guarh picked up Belm, so will be even more vicious in future, on the way to watch Cernd eat Faldorn for breakfast.  Back at Trademeet Tiris was helped and the tomb made safe to get the duo to level 13.

Nice progress, everyone! Mine is far less *speedy* as you might presume... :whistle:  but here are some details of our early adventures in Amn:

 

Escaping the improved Dungeon (further modified by aTweaks) and with only one rest allowed is a challenge by itself (at least for me as this is my first try of it). We should conserve our resources but once we got used with that the things went more or less smooth. Cleared the whole dungeon but left a Cambion alone as we were short of resources at the moment. Randomiser took away the Helm of Balduran and Metaspell Amulet but at least we got Mail of the Dead, Sword of Chaos and Girdle of Bluntness. Jaheira acted much more effective in Bear form (18/00 Strength and 2 APR are better then her *human* abilities at the moment).

 

After escaping the dungeon Jaheira and me parted our ways with Minsc and Yoshimo and we looked around. Ribald's stock was emptied by Randomiser as well but it put some new *shiny ones* there instead: Ring of Djinni Summoning (that's nice opportunity to try it out as I never sided with Bodhi), Gauntlets of Weapon Skill, Cloak of the Sewers, Cloak of Non-Detection, Skin of the Ghoul +4. And Bracers of Defense +4 are there as well. Not so bad. Bought Battle Axe +1, Wand of Frost and some scroll/gem/ammo cases. Deidre lost Robe of Vecna somewhere in her travels...hmm  :? Should look after her wares better, if you ask me...

 

Solved the Circus problems with Aerie's help but then left her there at safety.

 

Went to the Slums and talked with Gaelan. He sent us to the Copper Coronet and we joined with Nalia. Polytweak changed her into the Swashbuckler 5/Mage and modified her proficiencies as **Short Sword, **Dagger, *Crossbow. Well, will see how she will fare that way.

 

Fought the guards (disabled them with Chaos) and Beastmaster (Emotion put him out of fight):

Looted Beastmaster for Shortbow +1 and Missile Attraction +2 armor.

 

Bernard's stock is even more *thin* than Ribald's but at least I got a scroll of Spell Shield from him. Pretty useful if not crucial.

 

I'm thinking about getting Viconia in the Crew before descending into the Sewers for further elimination of the slavers.

Impish Face: Fighter (8) / Illusionist (9), 52 kills (Frennedan);

Jaheira: Fighter (8) / Druid (10), 23 kills (Mephit Portal);

In ToBEx .ini folder you  got a Tobex_core file. If you want, you can make Saving Throw Fix=1 to 0. That disables the message Save vs.x to be displayed multiple times. Fwiw, Saving Throw Fix doesn't apply to anything in the game!

Taum, 5th update

 

We decided to do the Planar Prison. Not the easiest of quests to take, but chances are better here than anywhere else probably. 

We start of abruptly killing the Yuan-ti spawn in Mekrath's Lair. Lightning traps did a fair deal of damage, but no deaths.

Prior to visiting the planes, upgraded my Quiver of +1 arrows to +3 status, so Demons are vulnerable to them.

We enter the prison buffed and invisible. Mage on the left side dies instantly, his HP is very low.

Before facing the 2nd group of Thralls+Yuan-ti, we send an Earth Elemental (from ring) to draw some fire.

Then we rush in. Taum gets held in a Web, but succeeds his next save, just in time to heal up via potion.

3rd round, he fails his save again, and gets blasted by Sunfire. He acually has 50% Fire resistance due to Ring of Fire Control, but the damage on a failed save is massive.

Demon managed to succesfully gate one of his friends, and turn Ethereal a few times - I'll disable Demons' Etherealness power from now on, it's annoying for me.

Chim - elven wild mage (update 3)
 
Chim travelled next to the Graveyard.  For Pai'Na she entered invisibly and cast a cloudkill on the druid, although I admit I did wonder ahead of time whether the other people there were classed as innocents.  They were and her reputation plummeted from 20 to 4!  She used a scroll of undead protection for the Southern Tombs and another for the tombs upstairs after she had sold surplus equipment (level 13).
 
Chim invested 10,000 gold at the temple getting her reputation back up to 16 and then bought a few more genius potions to learn scrolls including spell immunity.  That was used at the Bridge area to get the berserker horn.  She also did the Fallen Paladins (with Anarg dead they had no way to kill elementals) and skinner murders (finishing the Rune Assassins off with skull traps - she was buffed with protection from magic energy).  She also released a kidnap victim and used a skull trap sequencer on Neb.  When looting his house she just used vampiric touch to boost HPs rather than mirror image.  As a result the acid trap triggered her contingency (loss of 50% of HPs) for the first time.
 
After handing in Neb's head Chim finished the Sir Sarles quest and then retrieved the Dawn Ring.  After dropping that back at the Lathander temple she returned to the slums and dived into the sewers under the Copper Coronet.  Everything went smoothly there and she got to level 14 for obtaining Lilarcor.  Skull traps proved devastating for Capt Haegan and summons / web / cloudkill finished off the wizards and their helpers.
 
With reputation now back to 20, Chim bought a few more scrolls along with the Staff of Rhynn.  She overspent though and couldn't afford any more potions of genius so went to ask Mencar for a loan.  Web / stinking cloud disabled the opposition for a couple of cloudkills.  Her skull trap sequencer surged, but she was still able to kill Brennan before he made his getaway and, with the mage and his familiar choked to death, the others didn't last long.
 
The final part of the session was a lich hunt.  Chim pre-prepared access to the tombs, dealing with the sea troll and rakshasa in the sewers in the process.  She thought she was ready, but realised just before activating the Shade Lich that she didn't know improved haste.  To raise funds for that she cloudkilled Tarnor's gang - none of them escaping the webs and stinking clouds.  After patronising the Cutpurse, Chim returned to deal with the liches.  A scroll of undead protection and oil of speed supplemented phantom blade spells for the liches, while she splurged out on a couple of potions of dexterity and a potion of power to make Kangaxx easy with her MMM and improved haste.

Taum, 6th update. 

 

Upon returning to Amn, we sell of most of the loot from Planar Prison, and finish WK level 2 without much problems. The moment Chromatic Demon was set free, I exited the area, I can't fight him.

Forged Helm of the Rock. This is priceless, since it gives immunity to critical hits. Taum gets it, as a sole front-line fighter in my group.

Payed Shadow Thieves 15k gold, finished first two quests easilly, and then Edwin started his jabbing about Nether Scroll. 

Fine, fine, we shall fight the Lich.

At least Wraiths served their purpose, Minor sequencer was wasted. Edwin gets in sight of summoned Glabrezu and he gets stunned immidiately, but not before he summoned  a Wyvern. We run.

2nd one makes mages have stoneskin in place before battle starts. In effect, they're pretty much immune to backstabs, but it doesn't really matter.

Taum, 7th update

 

Bryllaw troubles

I don't have high charisma, Minsc or Yoshi, hence I need to fight Perth the adept. He ended my run once already, so I was very careful about him.

Oddly enough, Edwin apperantly found Nether Scroll on Saemon's ship. :P

We pay a visit to Perth buffed for battle. His summoned Simularcrum isn't buffed as he is, and dies instantly.

Taum knocks him out with Divine Wrath innate, but it won't last long. He's also under SI:div, and protected from Magical weapons, so our attacks are futile.

As he wakes up, he targets us with Prismatic Spray. Mazzy's badly hurt, and Edwin dies.

Next his trigger activates, and he casts a Sphere of Chaos on Kivan, who walks away from it.

Next Perth's move was Flesh to Stone on Kivan. He drinks up Invunerability potion (with IR it's +2AC, +2 saves, invulnerability to normal weapons) to buff his saves somewhat. Pure luck here tough, he wears Helmet of Balduran with 5%MR, and it blocks it.

:D All in a day's work, Grond0. At least that sequencer dispeled Stun from Kivan and Mazzy, so screw both Ultroloth and Neveziah! ;)

 

Anyways, I had to reload upon entering Spellhold - Bhaal wouldn't die.  :blink:

The beast gated is completely immune to Yuan-ti weapons, and rips them to shreds. Mage Dimension-doored near us in panick, only to get whipped by arrows  :D.

Taum, 8th update

 

Escaping the Spellhold

 

Everything was going rather smooth until Slayer change wouldn't kick in. Purely cosmetic bug (altough Taum could be level drained as a consequence).

One near death experience was Ulitharid. He hit Taum 3 times, lowering his HP to 25% very quickly.

Reasoned with the loonies downstairs, and then all hell broke loose. "Fake" Viconia died first. She was casting some Enchantement spell, I don't like holds and similar so I focused her down first.

Taum, 9th update

 

City of  Caverns

 

Not much to say here. We killed the priestess, and completed the locked chest quest. Taum got Mazed by a trap there but it's irrelevant since he isn't soloing.

Priestess wields the Cloak of Mirroring, tweaked by IR it's turned into this. Mazzy gets it.

Taum gets Etherealness boots. These are indeed a splendid pair, with outright immunity to Imprisonment & Maze.

Underdark

 

Drow are outright horrible. We destroyed Air Elemental Portal summons, but those drow party gang were much trouble.

Kivan died to Skull traps, Mazzy got confused by Myconids and ran towards Earth Portal.

Next, Kuo-Toa. They succesfully disabled casters, but fighter trio doesn't really care about Deafness.

Buffs will do little good, so Taum uses potions which are undispellable. He is in there solo.

Note that SI:Necromancy isn't as good as it sounds - with Spell Revisions, all Necromancy spells force a save vs death, which Taum is now at -2. In addition, it prevents healing from working on him (items with regeneration and potions can still be used). "Cure" type spells are also ineffective, so disease and similar effects become a pain. Time to face the drow party near Underdark exit.

Taum, 10th update

 

The drow war party

 

I used very little buffs. Demons dispel at high level, hence I saved my spells for later use.

We kill of one of the two Glabrezu guards instantly.

They have HLAs. Dragon's Breath is upon us, and the party retreats having no fire protection. Taum is left alone against the horde.

He tries to run to his comrades, but a golem slows him down. He just drank healing, and needs to wait a few precious seconds to do something about his slowness.

Viconia casts Heal at him. I forgot he can't be healed! Mazzy switches to Harmony shield + Foebane. Oh, and that other surviving Glabrezu gated in a freakin Balor. Now I started to worry a bit.

aTweaks Glabrezu, unlike most of SCS oponnents, doesn't ignore disabled oponnents - in fact, he prefers those. Kivan is in for a lot of hurt now. Edwin has no stoneskins. I don't know how that happened, I'm afraid, a lot of stuff was going on.

Pure luck strikes again! Kivan dies to Unholy Blight, instead of getting shred to pieces by Glabrezu.  :P

More bad news. Taum is hit by a Symbol of Weakness or something similar, which drops his ability scores, and cannot move. Edwin is in a near-death state after a failed save vs Flamestrike.

Ok, it's time to panick now. How Edwin didn't get chunked to this is beyond my coprehension.

Taum drops his old Full Plate +1 to the ground, and can move again.

Unfortunaly, Taum tries to get into Rage, but it takes no effect if he suffers from Rage fatigue effect, bad call.

Taum,  11th update.

 

We got the Balor off the Deep Gnome village without trouble.  Second drow ambush on the bridge was much easier than the first one - we buffed properly, and drow even summoned Gnolls in desperation.

Bought Mirror Shield (IR version of Balduran's shield), but it is of little use against Beholders since they steal it via telekinesis, Greenstone Amulet (Kivan gets it, no longer can he be disabled by enchantements), and all Potions of Magic Shielding there.

Time to wrap up our mission in Underdark. Boz and his gang were dealt with swiftly - a pre-cast True seeing from Viconia made Damien visible, while Taum destroyed the opossition.

Had much difficulty with Quille. Edwin died, and a number of healing potions were used up. I'm getting rather low on these - Taum usually drinks one each round.

Finished the helmet quest and Solaufein's quest "the good way", letting both the gnome commander and Solaufeinn live; Demon who wanted the eggs was sent back to his home plane ("Remain silent").

I really wanted to buy Psion's Blade (IR places it in Underdark), but it's terribly expensive and I couldn't afford it.

Impressive progress Aasim, impressively fast too. What levels are your team at?

 

Imo, the problem with WS is the fact that if you can hit a mage, he will be dead soon anyway, regardless if he gets affected by spell failure or not. You can easilly disrupt the spell with elemental damage anyway. The restrictions on item usabilities are insane (no potions aside healing?! wtf? Being a WS doesn't (imo) mean they're half-witted idiots), which in turn makes them the most vulnerable against their arch-nemesis - mages. Even worse, plenty of oponnents in vanilla game force-cast spells, making them immune to the whole "spell failure" thingie. It's a shame a berserker is actually a far better WS than a WS....

 

The disadvantages of a WS are mostly mitigated by playing in a party with arcane casters and priests, they do have one valuable ability that's not easily replicable by any other warrior prior to HLAs i.e. interrupting a mage with Stoneskin + ProMW by hitting them with a normal weapon. I know you don't use normal weapons vs ProMW casters though...

 

The main problem IMO is their awful armor class compared to other warriors (at least 3-4 points worse, and up to 7 points worse when you consider the golden girdle and suchlike).

 

Mind Flayer ambush was also taken care of w/o casualties.

Ooh, thanks for reminding me of this: Phaere can get confused by Umber Hulks with current polytweak mod, and would possibly attack Solaufein and turn him hostile (ending the drow city quest line). I need to fix that.

 

Of course, since confused creatures only ever attack the nearest creature, you could just stand someone between Phaere and Solaufein to distract her.

At the last screenshot, they were (I don't use "revised XP tables" from Kit Revisons, it kills my mages completely):

Taum - 16

Mazzy -16

Kivan -14 or 15

Viconia - I think 17, but definitely highest

Xan - 15, close to 16

Edwin is lagging behind due to BGT (he doesn't gain EXP until he joins,  he had a slow start so was 13 or 14.

Vanilla WS simply isn't worth it. MR is good, but I'd rather have the ability to use MR potions from level 1 than rely on inborn slow gain.

Good point about AC. All this is probably irrelevant once you have a mage with Vecna + Alacrity.

Well, the dialogue didn't trigger immidiately. I waited, had Viconia cast Invisibility Purge (I tought some Mind Flayer was invisible perhaps), and then Confusion wore off and was able to continue.

Chim - elven wild mage (update 4)
 
The session started with taking out Rayic Gethras (going over to a corner of his room invisibly and producing a few summons). Mae'Var's remaining tasks were no problem (level 15) - and neither was he.
 
After looting both thieves guilds Chim moved on to Aran Linvail's tasks.  Lassal was chased away with MMM.  The Guild Contact then pointed out the way to a vampire lair, where Chim used more summons to supplement her spells - a skull trap sequencer leaving the remaining opposition downstairs pretty helpless and getting her to level 16.  She was unfortunate to get only skeletons from 3 lots of animate dead against Bodhi and did a bit of running and casting / shooting to finish her off.
 
Chim now took the opportunity for a bit of travelling, starting off at de'Arnise Hold.  There were no problems there and she got to level 17 by feeding the umber hulks.  A first successful use of a fire storm (one attempt surged earlier) badly damaged both giant trolls and they quickly died.  Torgal survived and Chim retreated to bring out a simmy for the first time.  Surprisingly, Torgal failed both his MR and saving throws and died in a cloudkill before he had the chance to eat some skull traps.
 
Moving on to Trademeet, Chim had a similarly fast passage through.  She made a nice use of a fire storm in the Troll Mound - skirting the edge in order to keep the last 2 giant trolls within it.  One problem was that I noticed while trying to buy potions from Adratha that reputation was back down to 10 - probably a villager somewhere wandering into a fire storm, though I don't know when that happened.  Cernd took just two mouthfuls to dispose of Faldorn.  More expense at the temple raised reputation back up to 17 and completing the remaining quests soon had it maximised again.  She celebrated by collecting Ihtafeer's prime potions before waving him a cheerful goodbye.
 
The next area was Umar where doing the quests in the village got Chim to level 18 and the ability to summon a planetar.  At the temple a first planetar took on a lich and was immediately stunned - however, it still acted as a useful distraction while MMM did their work.  A second planetar was more effective on the group with the second lich.  Thaxy put up a good struggle, successfully killing 2 planetars and various other summons and chasing Chim into a corner.  However, he was severely injured by then and died almost immediately after that.  At that point my game crashed and I had to do the battle again.  However, the second time round it was pretty easy - the planetar successfully dispelling Thaxy early on made a big difference (level 19 - improved alacrity).  An opening skull trap sequencer on the Shade Lord only injured him and he survived a follow-up sunfire.  Meanwhile his aura had blinded Chim and he had used spellstrike on her protections.  So she ran downstairs to wait for his buffs to expire before coming up again.  She tried another skull trap sequencer, but he resisted all those and she also missed with a couple of MMM before running away again.  Up again she started casting an incendiary cloud, but was again blinded by the aura.  However, the spell worked anyway this time - I was just too late trying to take a screenshot before she ran downstairs again for a final time.
 
She tidied up in Umar, including getting Valygar's body, but the game crashed for a second time immediately after that (which I took to be a signal that enough was enough) and will have to redo that bit next time.
