If you can use Wyverns Tail you can use the FoA? Or do the two work differently?
Sunstone bullets might also work, just save one for the Shade Lord.

Doh! You are right, Wyvern's Tail is a flail (druids can't use). Guess Blackblood club is it until Underdark then...I'll make that firetooth dagger purchase a high priority. Wait a minute, the name of the club I was thinking of, maybe it's called Gnasher? It's a +2 club, I think you get it if you fight the shadow druids guarding entrance to Faldhorn. It does some kind of acid/poison damage and it works on trolls too.

Isn't there a returning dart that does fire damage? I think I've seen one (may have been in ToB though).

It is with Item Revisions, otherwise no.

In the standard game the guarded compound dispel trap can be picked off under invisibility 10' or mass invisibility and activating detect traps before heading upstairs. Is the blue aura around party members an improved cloak of mirroring etc. graphic - I remember a plainer one from aTweaks a while back.

Can't do, no thief.

Blue aura around Edwin or Xan is old 1PP Spell Immunity globe animation (integrated in Spell Revisions). Imo, old 1PP actually looks better than the newest one (v4).

Sorry to hear about Taum's demise, Aasim. Looks like yet another victim of RL distraction and a bit of lacking of concentration due to being unstoppable...

KR berserker, while a definite melee beast, suffers badly due to lack of AC (Taum had -3 in ToB, which is laughable) and pathetic breath saves. I did not expect him to go down against any single oponnent tbh, but when en massed, he isn't nearly as powerful. But keeping a slew of Invisibility potions is a good idea for next runs, will keep that in mind.

Cordruids and his band of fighter/druids - BG 2 Update 3

Traveling with: Rachel, David, Venita, Crystelle, Jaheira

When we went to Watcher's Keep to pick up a potion bag, we got the Suna Seni ambush. This was super, super easy, 2x  call lightning, insects, nymphs, etc. The enemies has no chance. I even did improved invisibility (via RoAC) on Cordruid just to be safe.

Cordruid decided that with CC, death ward and fire resistance available to everyone, we should be able to take on Captain Dennis and his gang - this would add both the boomerang dagger as well as 3 full plates, a huge boon to the party before we engage trolls. We want to do Trademeet pretty early as that quest has many druid weapons.

So we buff to the max and enter Captain Dennis and engage. We open with fire elemental near the enemy mage, plague of insects, and some summons near the druid. The enemy casts were neutralized, so I thought it was going well. But our weapons/Thac0 wasn't good enough and party member started to die. In an effort to help, some nymphs were summoned and via manual control tried to hold Captain Dennis - Dennis resisted but his fellow melee did not, so that helped. We tried insects on Dennis but he resisted. More summons were thrown into the fire - yes Captain Dennis falls, though not before he kills Rachel and David and nearly killed Venita. The rest of the enemies however fell quickly.

CordruiddefeatsCaptainDennisbutRacheland

The resulting 3 full plates was a huge AC boost to the party. Everyone now has full plate except Jaheira, but she's in the back so that's pretty low priority for now.

Chim - elven wild mage (update 6)

At Brynnlaw Perth was cut down before he could buff and Chim became another unlucky adventurer to pick up a book of 'infinite' spells with only 2 pages.

Moving into Spellhold Chim cheesily used a 'fake-talk' strategy with the demon to avoid losing any attributes before killing dream Sarevok.  She moved swiftly through Spellhold with just the one nasty moment where IO misjudged how far out an incendiary cloud used to kill the lich reached.  Another cloud killed Dace Sontan to get her to level 27.

She had completed Spellhold without resting and picked up Boots of Grounding / North on the way out to take a nap and let her inner demon out.  Just for a change she convinced Lonk to let the inmates out and moved on to confront Irenicus - a planetar summoned for him meant he went down very quickly.  Chim was soon back in Brynnlaw and then, via another of Saemon's schemes, shipwrecked in the City-of-Caverns.

She persuaded a beholder to look inside a chest and then picked up the Cloak of Mirroring on the way to the prince (level 28).  The intention was to go there peacefully.  However, on arrival I realised Chim hadn't talked to the priestess, so the prince was hostile.  Oh well, he died a bit quicker than he would have anyway.  I did decide not to bother going back to kill the king though, so he got to enjoy a longer reign than normal.

In the Underdark Chim released an imprisoned mage and used summons to protect him while he raided the elemental planes before demanding all the loot.  Her attempted wilting surged, giving the mage time to imprison the planetar and a skeleton warrior while Chim stayed well out of the way.  After things calmed down a bit Chim sent in an incendiary cloud from out of sight.  That prompted Vithal to produce his 4th and 5th time stops, along with gating in a pit fiend.  Once that had unsummoned Chim went back to find Vithal - but he had disappeared somehow, taking his scrolls with him.

Chim cleared the giant soul gem before going back to take on the balor for the svirfneblin.  He couldn't summon a planetar due to the earlier one being imprisoned and his other summons were not quite enough to get the job done.  As a result he had to rely on producing a simmy as a distraction to do the last bit of damage (it didn't help that energy blades and his last MMM spell also surged).

Learnt a few more spells, including project image, before casting freedom to make her planetar available again.

She tackled the beholder area by sneaking in invisibly and getting out of sight of the elder orb before true sight triggered.  Summons quickly cleared the area, although the planetar was imprisoned again by an elder orb (level 30), which resulted in resting once in the area.

The ilithid area was next and that got off to a bad start when I tried to prepare for a fight by casting MMM.  A demon appearing in a small locked cell could have been a potential problem, but fortunately in this installation demons are put off by protection from evil (which is provided by the Staff of the Magi).  The illithid MR meant they were not easy to kill for Chim and she left most of them alive as she moved through the area invisibly.  She saved a planetar for the final battle and, even stunned, that provided some distraction while she ran the golems round throwing the odd energy blade at the Master Brain.  Freeing the slaves provided her final level.  Chim gave Simyaz back the Silver Sword, but he was still not satisfied and she felt compelled to teach him a lesson - one simmy and 2 symbol: stuns later the lesson was concluded (interestingly Simyaz had apparently managed to hide the Silver Sword somewhere in the few seconds he had it).

I'm not going to bother with the kuo-toa tunnels, so Chim just used a planetar on the drow ambush on her way to the City of Ust Natha - successfully resisting the temptation to proclaim to the guards there that she had just come from Adalon.

Corduid and his band of fighter druids - Update 4

I decided I wanted to take on Tarnor and his gang, even though it's still pretty early. We want Mekrath's rod of resurrection and we don't want to take the long way to get to Mekrath's - we need the money in any case. Since we have pro-fire, death ward, chaotic commands, the only real threats from the enemy is hold persons and fear. So after buffing, we summoned monster summon II animals and sent them to Tarnor's group (using Far Sight so the party isn't spotted first). The bears were frustrating as they wouldn't follow orders. The panthers died quick, so we summoned replacement animals. We attacked entirely from range for quite a while, mainly so our animals take the enemy spells instead of us. We opened with plague of insects which almost certainly disrupted Gaius horror spell. Most of the party was undamaged, except Rachel was taking a beating from the enemy throwing axe, she had to retreat to heal. When the plague of insects wore off, we then put on insects on the enemy, and continuing to replace our animals as they die. Even though the battle has been going on for quite a while, Gaius still isn't dead. So we use a firebreath potion on him, which hit a moment after he dispelled our buffs, with remove magic probably. Good riddance...now the party attacks as normal and gets the job done - success and no deaths! Incidentally a disintegrate was cast by Gaius, but since we all had death ward up, no deaths - hah, no chunkings this time! (I often get a character chunked here).

CordruidhasintensebattlewithTarnorsGang_

We defeated the genies in Trademeet, putting protection from petrification on Cordruid. Venita got petrified but we brought her back with a green scroll, so no big problem there. We will solve the issues in the grove next, after we bought the blackblood club.

Update of Impish Face & Co.

Upon further consideration we decided to deal with Slavers immediately. Checked the backrooms of Copper Coronet and found a Girdle of Fortitude in the retired thief' chest. Descended into the sewers and fought our way through. Solved a riddle and obtained a Lilarcor. Buffed before entering the slaver's base. Opened with Chaos, Emotion and Insect Plague disabling most of the opposition. Polished with Slow next round and stunned Captain Haegan with Chromatic Orb. Just a clean-up after that.

Experienced a Polytweak-ed Minotaurs (with their Charge ability) and Yuan-Ti fighters (Blindness and Cause Fear abilities). Not that they are much of a threat even now but at least they are not a goblin-like pushovers anymore and quite interesting - nice work here, Polytope! Yaun-Ti fighters wear a magical halberd and two-handed sword for us to sell.

We rested in the sewers to refresh our spells and engaged the next group of slavers. Again hit with Chaos, Insect Plague, followed by Web+Cloudkill. One slaver wizard was cornered and eliminated (he dropped a Gloves of Pick Pocketing) then we dealt with the rest of opposition. Or we have thought they were all of them - gnomish wizard was still alive and hit us with Remove Magic followed by Skull trap (Cheater!!!). That didn't helped him much and soon he fell as well.

On the way back to the Copper Coronet we fought Caldo and Krumm Cohrvale and Bregg then Hendak rewarded us with Ashen Scales +2 for our work - a nice suit for Viconia so we headed to the Government District next. Talked with Madeen then Tolgerias to open Valygar's quest, bought a magic licence and now, free to cast spells, saved Viconia and invited her into the Crew. Talked to Delon about the Umar Hills and went there through the City Gate where talked to Flydian about Trademeet' troubles.

Umar Hills:

- Helped a Mage who needs Mimic's Blood. Jaheira tried aTweak-ed Elementals (managed to bring an ordinary and elder ones) vs Polytweak-ed Umber Hulks. Elementals won even though an ordinary one was confused. Love those new mods' changes so far.

Found a Staff of Curing in Mimic's chest and were rewarded with Ring of Regeneration. Saved Jermien from his *creation* then picked some nice scrolls (Pro vs Magic Weapons in particular) and Horn of Blasting in his house.

- Helped Madulf and got a Pommel Jewel of the Equalizer from him.

- Got a Beljuril and checked a ranger's cabin.

- Joined with Valygar and now thinking about picking Mazzy before going for Nalia's Keep (she is nervous of our delay already).

to be continued...

Chim - elven wild mage (update 7)

Chim didn't waste much time with the drow.  A planetar destroyed N'ashtar's ambush and a wilting finished off all Phaere's captors.  Her tasks in the city only took a few minutes before Chim watched a demon chuckling as it sent her and the matron mother to hell.

Chim watched as Adalon cleared the exit and then sneaked out invisibly.  Soon she was back in the Athkatla.  After picking up stored equipment and buying spells from Ribald's special collection (still missing some old favourites like spell trigger and mordy sword though), she headed for the Graveyard.

Chim ignored the vampires attempting an ambush in the Graveyard and went straight to vampire HQ.  She used project image for the first time to produce some summons to clear the upstairs area.  Downstairs some more summons then made short work of Bodhi, allowing Chim to take the Rhynn Lanthorn.

After reporting to Elhan she arrived in Suldanesselar.  Again there she used invisibility to avoid quite a lot of conflicts.  That caused a potential problem when some skeleton warriors blocked her retreat from a nabassu - she responded to a death gaze by making her first use of a potion of magic shielding, before bringing out a planetar to clear the way.

For Nizi she tried out a wilting chain contingency, but it failed to get through magic resistance.  A first planetar did some damage, but eventually expired of insect damage.  Nizi outlasted a simmy attacking with improved hasted MMMs, but a second planetar proved too much.

At the temple she just raised the Avatar of Rillifane and let it do the hard work before moving on to the Palace to get access to the Tree of Life.  After killing the parasites Chim retreated while 3 skeleton warriors failed to find a way through fire shields.  They were no problem for a planetar though - his dispel magic working and a single blow then sent Jon to hell.

In hell Chim picked up:
- immunity to +1 weapons or less
- -2 to AC
- -2 to all saving throws
- +20% resistances to fire, cold and electricity
- +2 to STR
She also became evil and I remembered I had intended to avoid maximising her level before this in order to test whether she would get the option of summoning a fallen planetar as well as a standard one - oh well, maybe next time.

Using a project image Chim produced some summons before inviting Irenicus to appear.  A chain contingency triple wilting killed one of the demons and the others were rapidly killed by the planetar and 3 skeleton warriors.  The slayer disposed of the undead with a death spell, but was taken to badly injured by the planetar in combination with energy blades.  The planetar disappeared, but was immediately replaced while a new skeleton warrior occupied the Slayer and shortly afterwards Jon was defeated for the final time.

Another planetar killed Illasera and Chim has arrived in her pocket plane.

The alternative is +10% MR, but I won't be intending to make use of MR as a defense.  The good route also involves losing dexterity and HPs.

Aaah. It's that "sacrifice" trial. Yah, 10% MR is pretty useless in a no-reload for a mage.

Cordruid and his band of fighter/druids - FINAL Update

The party did very well in Trademeet and D'Arnise Keep, using Blackblood Club to kill most trolls, though a few times the flame blade spell was needed.

The party had just paid off Galen Bayle and was going to get the amulet of power, when we ran into the last (I think) and also worst vampire ambush - Tanova and her two buddies. I thought with 6x call lightning we should be able win, and might have been right but my excecution was off. First of all Tanova requires +3 weapons to hit, and only two party members have +3 weapons. Second, she has huge regeneration, which I never realized she had before. In any case, the call lightnings wiped her cronies, but Tanova herself was unstoppable. Cordruid unloaded like 10 call lightnings (using staff of thunder) into Tanova, but it could not overcome her regeneration.

Venita got chunked and I realized it was time to cut my losses, the party picked up our equipment and attempted to escape, we about a second away from clicking out of there when Tanova charmed a party member! We cannot escape as we don't have control of our party members! We desparately hit Tanova with what little we had left, but it wasn't enough and Cordruid died - RIP.

Baldr152_zps17f9ca1e.png

Not sure what to try next, but likely either a solo attempt or a small party.

I usually avoid traveling at night. If I arrive at the city at night, I immediately pause the game and click on rest button until it succeeds.

Condolences anyway, a cool run.

Sorry to hear that Corey - hope the fighter/mage goes well for you.

Re troll killing I find the use of fire elementals to be very effective (I think you said you had the ability to do that).

Re Tanova ambush I agree she's pretty formidable, although fighter/types can normally overcome her if protected from charm & level drain.  I think she's 50% resistant to electricity (and cold), which would make your call lightnings less effective than hoped.  Wands of the heavens would have been good for you in that situation, but another alternative would be to just avoid paying Gaelan Bayle until she has spawned (so that you have the option of not fighting her).  Another possibility is to dodge Sansuki to avoid him talking to you (I would have been inclined to do that in your situation, in order to go and get the AoP before fighting).

No wands of heavens did we have. I should have just rested at the Copper Coronet before headed to Docks. You are getting confused Grond0, Tanova is after Sansuki ambush and yes we didn't intervene with Sansuki.

They are kinda weak but I stuck strictly to their 2nd edition stats...maybe a mistake since everything in BG2 is beefed up relative to PnP. Good luck with your run.

Another possibility is to travel directly to one of the two city areas where you never get those chapter 2-3 nighttime vampire ambushes: The temple district (it's hallowed ground!) or graveyard (makes sense, if the vampires are out hunting they're not at home).

You can rest in the temple district if you have the cleric or paladin stronghold, or if you've uh... inherited Sion or Pimlico's mansion.

Chim - elven wild mage (update 8)

Chim has made good initial progress in ToB and just arrived at Sendai's enclave.

The first pocket plane challenge was straightforward.  Summons / wiltings from a project image killed the early stuff, while more wiltings and energy blades finished off the last few.

In Saradush she just opened up access to Lazarus and bought a few missing scrolls from him (remove magic, mordy sword, spell trigger).  Then went on a prison date with some vampires.  They were ignored as she moved into the cell area, which some project image summons soon cleared.  She moved into the palace proper and quickly got out of sight before the mage's true sight triggered - an incendiary cloud then effectively ended that battle. The strategy with Gromnir was similar - the cloud killed the mages and had everyone except Gromnir running and he was no match for a follow-up planetar.

A couple of skull traps and a wilting killed the soldiers assaulting the merchant before Chim moved on to the Forest of Mir.  Some summons from a project image provided cover while Chim waited for a triple-wilting contingency to trigger (which destroyed almost all the Master Wraith's undead).

After talking to Nyalee Chim moved on to Yaga-Shura's temple.  A pre-cast wilting contingency (on hit) and another cast in the temple was enough to kill most of the greeting pack of giants and a mordy sword finished them off.  Summons then did the hard work moving up the temple, although I carelessly forgot to rebuff at one point and got taken down to 39 HPs by traps.  That could have been fatal as I didn't bother immediately resetting my contingency and a no-save hold surge occurred shortly afterwards.  Fortunately the enemies present were already heavily out-gunned by summons and no harm was done.  Most of the time summons were produced by project images and guided into battle using farsight - the mordy sword leading to absorb attacks.  However, Chim had needed to be there in person to loot the container.

More wiltings destroyed the fire giants around Berenn before summons finished the job.  Producing those cost Chim over 30,000 gold from a surge, but she's got a number of high value bits of equipment in her bag of holding that can be sold if necessary.  A bit more equipment was pocketed as the planetar overcame Imix.

Back at the Temple of Mir Nyalee succumbed to an incendiary cloud.  The shambling mounds were immune to that, but Chim just left those and moved on to the Siege Camp.  Yaga-Shura was damaged with a magic missile and, when he reappeared, Chim ran away a bit, waited for true sight to expire and then got Yaga to chase her while invisible.  A triple skull trap trigger didn't quite kill him and he got the satisfaction of having a hit at Chim (triggering a wilting contingency :alien:).

More wiltings opened up the action in the 2nd pocket plane challenge; Chim's clone was initially saved by magic resistance, but was soon cut down by summons and the others only lasted a few seconds longer.

At the Oasis Chim's spell trigger surged, but a sequencer skull trap killed Jamis before Chim grabbed his items and left invisibly.  At Amkethran she bought some more scrolls that she will probably never get around to using.  She also tried helping Carras and the bandits, but that didn't work as Carras started attacking her even though he was blue (is it necessary to talk to him before the monks are dead?).  I don't think that shop has anything of much interest to a mage anyway.  Chim spoke to Balthazar to get the location of a couple more areas and left.

I've got the same problem with my own posts- I can't see the pictures  myself anymore (only his portrait at BG2 start). JPG you say, I'll give it a shot. I had a similar problem few weeks ago, somehow it fixed itself...

I've just checked. I begun using GIFs (much better than wath BG2 uses....idiot me for botching up the thread when I was using non-edited photos), my Photobucket storage is 22% full.??

Aha. It seems bandwith limit. I'll do something about it

Just for illustration here's 3 versions of the same picture:

BMP (format used by BG) - 1,421 KB

OgremochB.png

GIF - 116 KB

OgremochG.gif

JPG - 141 KB

OgremochJ.jpg

JPG provides pretty much the same quality as BMP, but uses only 10% of the space.  GIF does offer a slight further benefit on space, but with a certain amount of loss of quality.

I have at last been able to enter Irenicus' Dungeon  :)  after doing a re-install three times! :(

Only I have just realised that I do not have the extended dungeon. :(

Anyone know which mod it is in?

Weidu log follows. Then a short account of my first steps into the dungeon. Due to the new installation everything is very different so I am unable to predict what happens next. I have avoided reading the readmes extensively in order to make the journey more unpredictable.

I Stavemistress have awoken in the dungeon of Irenicus. There I met up with Imoen who is a proficient conjurer/thief Tiefling and Wulfgar, a barbarian who has also been trapped here. This is clearly not the Wulfgar that I have met in previous incarnations on the Sword Coast as he is nowhere near as proficient as I am whereas the other one was much more powerful than me.

I did meet up with a crazy wild mage, but upon discovering what he was truly like, I left him to himself as he was clearly demented.

I had to fight a load of bugbears that I have never met before. We got badly hurt but not seriously.

Three Olyughs. That I was not expecting!

Imoen cannot use rogue's potion of frost giant strength from CtB mod. Why? She could in other installations.

Ah man I hadn't checked this thread for a while, not in the least since none of my past four or five characters made it to Amn due to either untimely deaths or game crashes, but it's great to see the activity here.

Grimwald, interesting setup you've got there. Various mods I don't recognize. Best of luck with your drow Wizard Slayer (great concept).
Serg, nice to see your (relatively) slow but (most importantly) steady progress!
Grond0 your progress too is impressive. Your best Wild Mage run so far no doubt.
Corey, am sorry about your Druids... Best of luck with your next attempt.

Am currently solo'ing a Beast Master through BG1 (will probably post a first installment tomorrow in the other thread), hope to you y'all soon in Amn :)
