Imoen and I just about cleared the dungeons without help, but just before they reached the exit, they returned to free Jaheira, Minsc, and of course Boo.

It was well that they did for they found the exit blocked by an ettin. It was killed with  the help of summoned spiders and "haste."

I have always thought that Minsc should have been a paladin, so when I found that the dragon-slayer kit allowed a paladin to be chaotic good alignment, I rolled up a dragonslayer paladin and gave Minsc the stats that I rolled up using level 1 NPC mod.

We joined up with Yasraena, a drow fighter as we left the dungeon and then sorted out the problems at the circus before joining up with Nalia.

The party is now 2 1/2 drow and 2 1/2 human, Jaheira being half-drow. (Sub-race mod)

@Wise: Hmm, your setup sounds like a bug waiting to happen - best of luck regardless! And Minsc would fit right in my paladin parties I've done in the past, with  most of them having 4 INT...In fact, Minsc would be the smart one!

Liszt, 5th and final BG2 update

Party succesfully killed Mae'var and finished Renal's quest (Edwin was killed to get his key). Next, I wanted to do Xan's quest - some girl wants her father back. Trail lead us to slums, were the enemies asked 5k gold of us. We refused to pay.

image.jpg

Unfortunately, Liszt got held, Jan confused, and Viccy died to a backstab.
image.jpg

image.jpg

The enemies summoned hordes of crap, but Liszt had no means to break free, and the end came as Xan was trying to cast Chain Lightning.

Sorry to hear about that. It's a quest that I have never heard of before. But then at the moment in my set-up, the quests are often completely different. I'm enjoying it and I hope that you are enjoying yours too, even when unsuccessful.

It's a quest from Xan NPC mod, one must retrieve some stolen artifact from Talos temple. If you don't have Xan in party, it won't trigger.

I'm afraid it wouldn't help much. Korgan was charmed, Viccy dead, Jan confused, Liszt held. Xan had no enchantements or disables, I focused him around damage spells and spell removals....

It is a rather hard fight early on - I was hoping Jan's opening Chaos would help more, but it didn't do much. I also forgot about their thief, who killed Vic instantly. Another bad thing what happened is that Liszt got targeted by Hold (from cleric) and Chaos (mage) in a single round - he drank potion of Clarity to avoid Chaos with it's massive penalty, but Hold is in fact a much worse disable. In addition, Viccy had no Remove Paralysis - all her slots were filled with skeletons.

All in a day's work....

I've rolled up a kensai, will post his BG1 progress later on (if he lives long enough to warrant it).

I went with Nalia to the keep.  There are Cyclops as well as extra mages that weren't there in previous incarnations.

I am regretting bringing Yasraena with me. A fighter with a constitution of 12 and expertise in short swords is not a good combination! Indeed,as I have been writing this, I have decided to drop her from the party. She has't even been good from a role-playing viewpoint. Perhaps that would change in the underdark.

I was thinking of having an all drow/half-drow party, but it isn't good from a power-gaming point of view. Stavemistress is great as are Minsc and Jaheira. Nalia is also pretty good. Her trap-spotting and unlocking of chests are fine, and so is her spell-casting.

As far as Jaheira is concerned, I am wondering if I should have taken up the offer of changing her to a good alignment. With that comes the problem of her not being able to use druid equipment though.

Sorry to hear that Aasim.

The party cleared the keep. The only real problem was when we entered a room where there were twice as many trolls as expected. Minsc got killed but Harper's Call afterwards rectified that.

The same thing happened with Tor gal's group.

There was a troll shaman and a number of strong trolls with them.

Running away and shutting the door so that we only had to fight four at a time solved that problem.

However, I have an installation problem and suspect that I will have to restart the game.

It should be a little less stressful on a second run-through if that is necessary.

Ledcan the fighter/mage entering BG 2 portion of a trilogy no-reload challenge...(Rule of 4)

Ledcan and friends have made it out of Chateau Irenicus - we got a lot less gold than usual, presumably because we can't carry as much. We also solved the circus problem, which was pretty easy with Hanna's help, she's a great cleric. We also defeated Suna Seni and her fellow slavers - for the first time this game, Ledcan had to use extra healing potions, even with stoneskin and wearing armor, he took a beating.

We will probably investigate the Copper Coronet next. As mentioned in the BG 1 thread, for all major encounters, except when doing a NPC quest perhaps, the team will just be 4 players. Thus will only recruit if someone gets chunked. Here's the team:

Ledcan:

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 46 - (update 5)
Tweedle, dwarf fighter (Grond0) & Guarh, dwarf fighter (Gate70)

The shorties had another short session today, but it wasn't particularly sweet, with the first deaths of the run so far.

Things started well enough with the defeat of the balor for the svirfneblin.

Next it was off to try and clear the kuo-toa tunnels.  The demon knights were tackled first and caused Guarh a few problems with their draining ability - taking him down from level 19 to level 5.  He then retreated and ran the last of the knights round while Tweedle threw his hammer at it.  After a restoration scroll and a rest the duo moved on to tackle the prince - he proved no trouble after his tadpoles were tainted.  However, Guarh was wounded in that combat and didn't heal up before tackling the drow guards on the gate.  As a result he was PW: stunned and despite Tweedle using sunray to clear away some attacking skeletons his days looked numbered.  Fortunately though he recovered his senses at the last moment and was able to help finish off the last of the drow.

Moving on to the beholder hive Guarh was more successful.  He beat up the elder orb at the entrance and then worked through the rest of the beholders (protected from their attacks by the Cloak of Mirroring).  He did though decide to run away from the other elder orb rather than risk imprisonment.

The final bit of the session was an assault on the illithids.  Things started well enough there, but Guarh got caught out when attacking the first large group of illithids.  He'd already been drained once, when 2 of them hit him almost together and completed the devouring job.  A use of the rod of resurrection and a potion of invisibility (to recover his equipment) and Guarh was ready to go again - successfully finishing off the group without being hit again.  However, things followed a similar pattern with the second large group and the rod of resurrection came out of the backpack again.  Deciding to leave alone another room with illithid, the duo attacked the room with the brain.  The defenders were pulled outside and finished off individually, leaving the brain as an easy victim.

Stats:

Tweedle, fighter 21, 155 HPs (incl. 14 from ioun stone), 580 kills
Guarh, fighter 21, 153 HPs (incl. 5 from helm), 850 kills, 2 deaths

@Grond0 - good to see your MP run still going. Do you not buff INT to 20's when doing melee? And use genius potions in response to a drain? That's what I typically do for my melee heavy groups when dealing with Illithids.

In single player we would both be pausing regularly to review the situation, but we tend to use pause pretty sparingly in MP.  It's also pretty unusual for either of us to use potions.

Ledcan the level 9 fighter/level 10 mage continues adventure - update 2

Traveling with: Joshua (level 10 berserker), Hanna (level 11 Priest of Lathander), Paja (level 13 thief)

Ledcan has made some great progress. The team has weathered many ambushes, and done many challenges. With the tough and hard hitting meatshield of Joshua leading the way (or even soloing, depending on the enemy), the great spell repertoire of Hanna (though most fights is not even needed), Ledcan hitting hard with his two hand sword or bow, and once a while actually casting arcane spells (other than identify), and Paja doing great thief and scout work, so far there seems to be little the party cannot achieve.

* Slavers eliminated, both at Copper Coronet in the moored ship. With Paja removing traps, Joshua leading the way enraged, and Hanna's silences/hold persons, there was little the enemy could do to stop up. Lilacor quest complete, primary melee weapon for Ledcan for probably a long time, but most of the time he uses his bow for safety.

* Undead in grayeyard destroyed by Joshua with a pro undead scroll. Using a scroll seems much more economical than gulping dozens of heal potions in response the damage the undead here can do.

* First level of Watcher's Keep completed, other than the statues. We originally only was here for the ammo case (inventory space at a premium), but we did well enough decided to do more. I forgot we didn't do the room with the jellies and that mephit that likes to throw around stinking cloud. I couldn't remember if that was save vs. death or breath - if breath would have been pretty risky, though guess could cheese it and send in some animated dead.

* Genies in Trademeet destroyed - maximum buffs and the all important protection from petrification on all party members. Shield of Harmony went to Hanna.

* D'Arnis Keep cleared of enemies. Most enemies were killed with Stonefire, though a few needed acid/fire arrows. The mage soloed by Joshua and the golems pulled one at time. Azuredge from a doorway deat with the Iron Golem. Umber Hulks weren't much problem, Joshua using enrage to draw them then the party destroyed them quick enough. For Torgal, Hanna finally pulled out some summons, 5 skeletons, did buffs like pro evil 10', bless, change, defensive harmony - the team destroyed Torgal easily.

* Rune Assasins not too much trouble when chasing down Reijek. I'm Hanna's True Seeing had something to do with that...

* Hostile party in bridge district ware house destroyed - the party opened with summons, but the party was hasted, so they burned through the enemies quick.

* Captain Dennis killed Joshua for the 1st death of the game. However, Ledcan responded with chaos and emotion, and that completely broke the enemy resistance - was pretty much mop up after that, though took a while.

* Spiders destroyed in Crypt, including Panai and her friends - a single fireball from Ledcan sorted things out nicely - the ioun stone of course going to Paja. Spell Immunity was certainly a nice addtion to Ledcan's spellbook, though he flubbed the other scroll, forget what it was now....

Feel pretty good about the party so far, though many more challenging areas still to go...

The sort of spell you would expect from an arachnophile :).

Sounds like pretty smooth sailing so far Corey - keep concentrating!

Update of Impish Face & Co (Druid Grove).

The Crew enjoyed the nature's beauty and have fought a various kinds of monsters/animals there (there were a whole Zoo of them). Spiders weren't of any particular issues but Polytweaked Spirit Trolls have nearly strength-drained Mazzy to death (they drain more strength per hit now) - she managed to cast her innate ability just in time. Valygar scouted a pair of regular Trolls inside the Mound and lured them outside but a moments later appeared a whole pack of them including Giant ones! We hit with Slow + Emotion + Chaos disabling all of them but one, which was quickly slain (with FoA there are no more issues with killing them). The rest were dealt with in complete safety whilst they watched a various kinds of 3D nightmares:

th_Baldr043.png th_Baldr044.png th_Baldr045.png

Inside the Mound we killed a pair of Spirit Trolls and found a Horn of Silence and a Dragonslayer sword which Valygar put in off-hand.

A little bit further in the Grove Valygar spotted an Elder Earth Elemental. Checking an aTweaks readme revealed that they have 50% magic resistance and are immune to +2 or lower weapons so only Impish Face could do any harm with his FoA. He buffed and dealt with it quite easily:

th_Baldr048.png th_Baldr049.png th_Baldr050.png

For the first group of druids who had fighting some trolls we waited for mage to be killed and then dealt with the rest. One interesting moment here - the mage summoned a whole pack of animals to fight the trolls but when they fell and druids turned hostile those animals remained green-circled and attacked their former masters

Vs Kyland Lind's group we used our new Horn of Silence, Chaos and Insect Plague and that was enough to nullify any threat they could possess:

th_Baldr052.png th_Baldr053.png th_Baldr054.png

Viconia cast Chaotic Commands on Impish Face and he steamrolled through the mushrooms on the bridge - they could hit only on criticals so that was pretty safe:

th_Baldr055.png th_Baldr056.png th_Baldr057.png

Our fighters joined him to deal with Shambling Mounds on the next bridge and then he dealt with yet another mushrooms:

th_Baldr058.png th_Baldr059.png th_Baldr060.png

Dalok and his gang can't stop us either and we found Armor of Deep Night +4 on him (still couldn't find any magical club for Jaheira...):

th_Baldr061.png th_Baldr062.png th_Baldr063.png

And then, after all this unstoppable assault, we hit a brick wall in face of Faldorn... Viconia revived Jaheira twice before she could defeat her and even then just barely ... Looks like that challenge is more or less a game of luck - who first manage to cast Insect Plague (or in case of Faldorn a Creeping Doom) pretty much wins.

We emptied the potion seller's stock of valuable potions before reporting to the mayor of Trademeet as we were intending to side with Genie. Ithafeer dropped another Ring of Regeneration and Sling of Seeking +2, Khan Zahraa rewarded us with Sling +3: 'Arla's Dragonbane' for Viconia and guildmistress Busya with Necaradan's Crossbow +3

Dealt with Feuding Houses problem by giving a Mantle to to the Mayor and checked a local stores for shiny-ones. Ilbratha +1, Scimitar +2, Rashad's Talon and Helm of Glory are available for purchase but we aren't interesting of them so have bought a couple of scrolls, Necklace of Missiles and Wand of Fire for now.

Back in the USSR our Keep we solved an angry merchant problem and now pondering our next move (thinking of triggering Suna Seni and following ambushes to progress Jaheira's plot).

to be continued...

I might buy it later but I'm not in desperate need of it - Impish Face (as a frontman) could cast it whenever he want and more then only once per day if he wish so. And I recall that I seldom use it in the past, before Randomiser - the only member of my usual Crew that could use it being non-mage is Mazzy and even she doesn't rely on it much.

Ledcan the fighter/mage - update 3

Traveling with: Joshua (berserker), Hanna (priest of Lathander), Paja (thief)

The party has solved the Trademeet and Umar Hills problems without much problems. For the undead at Umar Hills Temple, just shadow fiends and skeletal warriors, so not too bad. Ledcan was pretty certain he could solo Thaxxy. So what he did is send the party to the far corner invisible. Then Ledcan himself would approach from opposite side, what Lilacor equipped (to foil chaos), he opened the battle with lower magic resist. Thaxy did a remove magic and some other effects, then Ledcan spammed his lightning wand on Thaxxy. The battle wasn't perfect, though as his angle of attack was wrong and his own bolts went through Thaxxy and hits his own party -oops! He corrects his angle, then it was smooth. Ledcan has the AoP so Thaxxy' s breath attack was not a threat. The last shot of the wand took out Thaxy - pretty smooth really.

LedcandefeatsThaxllssillyia_zps3826afa8.

Chaos at the guarded compound:

The party defeated the monster ambush at the lower level without trouble. The plan for upstairs was to go invisible, let Paja de-trap, run to a far room, and let Paja use a haste potion try to backstabrun/hide and repeat then when enough of them dead, have party assist. Alternatively, if that wasn't working well, send as many summon as we can, then send the party, hopefully with the strongest spells deplated from the enemy.

This, however, was not how it worked at all. Paja found the traps, tried to de-trap it, but despite 100% skill in traps, managed to trip it - and of course it was a dispel illusion trap! Doh we are all unbuffed! Run for our lives!

We ran to the entrance. We got a partial blessing, Ketta and the cleric didn't follow, ok 4 on 4, maybe we have a chance after all..We immediately summon some summons as distractions, generally the fastest ones we can summon like berserker horn and Kithix, etc.

Joshua was quickly chaosed, hmm..Ledcan cant spells, he was wearing full plate to protect against Ketta. So he does arrow after arrow into the enemy mage. Hanna summons what she can, Paja is stunned and getting hammered. Ledcan assists with Lilacor also had to use RoR wand twice on Paja to keep her alive. Hanna doing a good job replacing the summons, Joshua runs out of range, so though badly hurt he isn't dying anymore.

Paja eventually shakes off the stun. She immediately runs away to hide and tries to whittle the enemy melees with backstabs, runs and repeats. Hanna is getting hammered by the enemy Kensai and gets stunned too, and even with a RoR heal, she nearly dies, but a Paja backstab finishes the Kensai. Once the Kensai falls, Joshua regains control of himself and quickly turns the tide of battle - the 4 enemies downstairs are dead!

I thought 4 on two upstairs almost be a cakewalk. Well it wasn't, we had no effective way to dispel invisibility (Paja held by the cleric), so Joshua had to repeated weather backstab after backstab  from Ketta. That wasn't bad enough, a massive flamestrike dropped Ledcan to less than 20% life, he immediately did RoR heal, as Ketta is still around. Eventually, we decide ignore Ketta finish the cleric. We do so, Joshua weathers a few more backtabs and finally Ketta falls. Nice financial windfall, but rather insane battle...

Thanks for the compliment, Blackraven! My melee groups often have trouble with Thaxxy, but a properly prepared arcane character can easily solo him. Negating the level drain effect is of the course the key if trying to range attack Thaxxy and solo, and with the AoP that's a natural fit. I happen to know Thaxxy is weak against (and ONLY lightning, if I remember correctly), which is why it can work even if you can't lower his magic resists.

As for the Guarded compound that was a bit crazy. It would have been a lot easier if Ledcan wasn't wearing his full plate (chaos, emotion), but I just didn't want to take a chance with Ketta, she hits so hard, so I like to make it hard as possible. Not to mention, I wasn't even intending to start the fight when I did.

Ledcan the half-elf fighter/mage - Update 4 - many harder areas dealt with.

Traveling with: Joshua (level 13 dwarven berserker), Hanna (level 14 human Priest of Lathander), Paja (elven level 16 thief)

Incidentally, in case people didn't know, the reason Hanna is human is not power-gaming reasons but role-playing ones. The Hanna character is based on my 7 year old daughter, ad she only wants to be a human and no other race. Though she could dual class to thief, she won't be doing that. Also, Paja being elf same reason, Paja is my wife, and she always likes to be chaotic evil and elven, thus her race. A lot of stuff done this session.

Tarnor the Hatchetman and his gang:

Paja scouted ahead and Ledcan opened with (slightly out of sight) web, stinking cloud, fireball, greater malison and cloudkill. This was NOT enough to kill most of the enemies. Ah forgot to mention before fighting, we had laid down snares and summoned skeletons to assist. The snares were only a backup plan, also they can (and did) can eliminate the kobolds that spawn later so we don't have to get distracted.

Almost no one was killed by Ledcan's attack - HOWEVER, a great many of the enemy came at us piece-meal, since various enemies couldn't all attack at once since stuck in the web or stinking cloud (e.g. 1 or at most 2 at a time) - this meant the enemy was killed quickly and did little damage to us. Clean victory.

Kangaxx Quest:

Actually this went pretty uneventful. This is mainly due to the fact this is my first single player run with fixpack, which means both the IMoD and the Azuredge actually work at one-shotting undead. Kangaxx the demi-lich was in fact killed immediately due to the IMoD. The ring went to Ledcan. Ledcan now has the Gaxx ring and the +2 ring and his save vs. spells is still only 4, scary. We did use a pro undead scroll for the body part liches and a pro magic scroll for Kangaxx. Incidentally, since the scroll was still active, we also took down Mekrath with the scroll.

Planar Prison:

This was ALMOST uneventful. Massive buffs in the intro battle - I did something a bit different, I did invis 10' before entering. This made the powerful yuan-ti mage nearby (which has disintegrate in its script) waste time trying to dispel our invisibility rather than put up protections - this allowed Joshua to kill this mage pretty fast with Stonefire and Frostweaver. Just to be safe, Ledcan used chaos on the other group of enemies which was utterly overkill. The next groups were taken down piece-meal (e.g. were pulled a few at a time). The Master of Thralls and his air elementals put a massive beat down on Joshua, we had to RoR heal on him, but otherwise that went smooth. As for the Warden himself, concentrated melee/ranged attacks followed by a rather mean Breach by Ledcan insured a quick victory. Some bugs encountered: after returning to Amn, the game crashed and had to reload - fortunately had a quick-save just before rescuing the troop. Another bug is that everyone in the group got 45000 experience except Ledcan himself, putting him about 45000 behind everyone else. I haven't used SK to fix this, as I am not certain this is not by design. Not terribly worried about it as he makes up the difference in Spellhold regardless. He's going to level slow as a multi in any case.

Unseeing Eye Quest:

Joshua is easily the MVP of this quest. Hanna isn't quite high enough to blow up the undead here, except the very weakest ones. Joshua used Shield of Balduran for the beholders, and for undead IMoD and Belm. Not surprisingly, the group was never in danger. Joshua clearly could have soloed this entire quest, had he been by himself. There were only two real fights the group made a big difference. One was the lightning trap just before entering the lower level to get the part of the rod from the Avatar, de-trapped by Paja. The other was against Gaal, Hanna sent in two Ariel servants to assist Joshua - this wasn't strictly necessary, but just done so that less heal potions would be used. The other was against the Blind Priests. The party opened with chaos and silence x 2 (from Hanna and Joshua via Namurra ability) - this utterly broke the enemy resistance and was just mop up after that. In a lazy fight, they can be vicious with massive summons and flame strikes, so I certainly wasn't taking them for granted. Joshua the dwarf found a nice upgrade with the DEX gauntlets found here.

Update of Impish Face & Co.

Nothing particularly interesting has happened so just a quick medley of recent events:

Back in the City we paid Gaelan 15k gold and were invited on the funeral of Nalia's father so Graveyard was our next destination. Impish Face mostly soloed the upper crypts with Nalia performing lockpicking skills. Crypt King dropped the Gauntlets of Ogre Power for Jaheira, then we found a Protector of the Second +2 in one of the tombs, talked with Wellyn the Ghost, released a buried alive sod and dealt with Uncle Lester. Deeper in the crypts we dealt with various Spiders and buffed for Pai'Na. She MR-ed our Emotion but succumbed to Chaos as most of her spiders. The only offensive action she could perform was Chain Lightning and we obtained a Spider figurine alone with a Wand of Wonder. With our buffs still active we cleared the southern tombs - aTweak-ed Fire Elemental and Aerial Servant a vicious beasts so pretty smooth sailing there (vampire was replaced with Spectre which made the things even easier). Skeleton  Warrior, that used to possess Halcyon, dropped a Nymph Cloak so we now could have a max charisma based discount while shopping.

Traveling back to the Slums we triggered Suna Seni. As we were hidden by Jahera's Pixie Dust we had a free time to prepare ourselves. Called for Fire Elemental, hit with True Seeing, Insect Plague and Emotion. Emotion was saved but following Chaos (a vicious spell indeed) connected so the fight was pretty much over. Arbane's short sword wasn't Randomised, that's nice, and right as last enemy fell Nalia was abducted by Isaea. After a bit of inventory struggle we headed to the Docks. Killed mad cleric instantly and talked with Aran Linvail. For our hard earned gold he gave us a War Hammer +2 and Bracers of Blinding Strike - not a pretty sweat deal if you ask me... Opened Mae'var quest line and got a first task from him. Talked with Barg, dealt with Officer Dirth (now Mazzy has her Full Plate as well) and Jaheira was cursed by baron Ployer. Onto the Government District where we got Nalia back into the Crew and paid Terrece to stay out of our business with Ployer. His attitude changed quite a bit when no one showed up to help him and after some rest in Copper Coronet Jaheira now well and safe again.

to be continued...

@Serg: I see you are getting a lot of mileage out of the chaos spell. I am using it a lot more than usual too (probably because my main is an arcane this run) and I'm finding it effective as well - definitely a great spell to use in an ambush. Certainly safer to chaos then risk a web on yourself!
