@ Polytope

Am glad to see you're around. Torgal is bugged, as much of Fixpack stuff is. I will exclude "fixes" for Torgal from fixpack .tp2 as well for the next install (I do this with about 50% of Fixpack. If SCS was compatible with Baldurdash, I'd use it instead tbh). Great news for Polytweak v3, I must say I'm really looking forward to it.

Why Yoshi? - well, he's a decent enough thief (even if he never actually backstabbed anyone or set a trap), and I needed a thief prior to picking up Nalia (I spent some time doing things prior to Nalia's keep, so she would leave on behalf us taking so long to kill Torgal.) When Nalia was aquired, he already had decent enough equipment (Tugian bow) so I left him be.

Multi-player No-Reload

Neequan - gnomish level 9 fighter/level 11 thief, controlled by Corey_Russell

Wesorc - elvish level 11 sorcerer, controlled by Dogdancing

The duo has been in numerous ambushes in this session - in every case, Neequan opens with improved invisibility (via Ring of Air Control) and Wesorc puts herself invisible - then Wesorc does a few defensive buffs and assists, and Neequan uses his two long swords on the enemies - this has worked excellent every time.

The duo is mostly trying to get various upgrades for the team. The duo obtained the genie lamp by placing 7 snares around the geine with that item - massive buffs were used to deal with the genies inside the tent - the reward of the Shield of Harmony will be quite useful for Neequan, no doubt. The reward money also allowed the team to purchase Blade of Roses and some protection from undead scrolls.

Now that Neequan has a plus +3 weapon, he used the pro undead scroll to clear the undead in the graveyard - to be safe, Wesorc had to watch the battles while invisible - not her style to be sure, but we would rather do this than waste a ton of heal potions. We had a run with Bannen and Wewa and they had huge issues running out of heal potions, so we want our stock to last, so don't want to waste them. The Namurra is now used in the off-hand for Neequan.

Neequan wanted to get an upgrade for Wesorc too, so he used a protection from poison scroll and tanked the spiders in the crypts. The first battle Wesorc used a cloudkill, killing the group of spiders except for a phase spider which took a liking to Wesorc - Neequan rushed to her rescue, and his attacks combined with magic missiles killed this pest quickly.

We did a lot of buffs on Wesorc, and just improve invisibility on Neequan, and battled P'anaii. Wesorc fired off a well-aimed fireball and was quick mop-up after that. Neequan will use Kithix, while the ioun stone went to Wesorc. Now Wesorc is just missing a ring and cloak for equipment, we decided to sell and get the cloak of displacement for her, and called it day.

Ishtar, final update

I must say things were going rather well. We finished spellhold w/o any trouble. Imoen died to Kuo-Toa but was ressurected (oddly enough, she wasn't chunked from Flamestrike damage). We finished all of Underdark as well - defeating the Drow ambush near exit without any losses. Next we did Mind Flayers - with only Beholders left, which I wanted to finish for the Equilizer sword piece.

Baldr096.png

Buffed with Magic Shielding potions, Ishtar waded in, deeper and deeper, cutting them to pieces. Until the Elder Orb (which holds Equilizer part) battle.
He got hit by a sequencer of 3x Flame arrow, survived (automatic saves), but it cost him 6 seconds of time to heal up with a potion.
Baldr108.png

killing the Orb took too long. Magic Shielding potions last but 1 turn, apperantly the 6 seconds his aura wasn't clear was the 6 seconds he gets struck by Disintegrate Ray. Farewell Ishtar, you've been a blast. :)

@Aasim: Sorry to hear the end of Ishtar. I'm confused about something though. You say you got hit with a disintegrate ray - that would be blocked/reflected by shield of balduran right? But if you weren't using the SoB, I thought potions of shielding wouldn't work, wouldn't they eventually get dispelled by the beholder anti-magic rays? I thought only spell immunity or the shield of B can stop those anti-magic rays, do they leave potion buffs alone?

@Corey

I'm playing with Item Revisions. Balduran's shield is +10%MR in my game. There is a thing called "Mirror Shield" which grants immunity to Ray attacks, it can be bought in Underdark shops. It doesn't reflect rays back; just stops them. However,  SCS beholders have a chance each round to steal it from whoever wields it, so it's not that useful in a No-Reload game, at least vs Beholders (Mirror Shield also stops Gaze attacks used by some Demons, so it's not useless). I had no money to buy it anyway.

Potions within Item Revisions are (mostly) undispellable. Most of them can be removed via Breach, but Remove magic/Anti-magic ray has no effect on them. As a balancing measure, they're

- incredibly expensive by Item Revisions standards (for example, Potion of Power is more expensive than a Full Plate armor)

- very short lasting - i.e. - Potion of Magic Shielding/all x strenght potions/Oil of speed all last 1 turn.

I'll probably revert Beholders to "no shield stealing" behaviour and laugh at them in my next attempt, if I get this far. :)

Oh, per Disintegrate vs auto saves - Potion buff expired apperantly. Even if not, Disintegration with Spell Revisions deals damage even if save is succesfull, but I'm fairly sure it was a failed save.

Thanks for the explanation, Aasim. Is this "mirror" shield in the vanilla game? If so, guess I need to find more shops I only know of 3 shops in Ust Natha. That would certainly be useful if so.

No, Mirror shield is Item Revisions only. Note that shops are also revised with Item Revisions -it's vannila game shop selling it.  Example - I can buy Psion's Blade in Ust Natha, same shop as Mirror Shield and Firetooth dagger. Of course, it costs so much money that buying it prevents you from buying almost anything else from Drow merchants in Ust Natha.....I did buy it for Minsc (it's a permanent Mind Shield, very useful), but it has virtually zero use vs Beholders.

Grit - elven wild mage (update 5)

My mouse is in the process of dying, which resulted in losing my first attempt at this post - so here's a slightly abbreviated version ...

I started off by trying to test whether a contingency dispel magic would be effective against being held in a surge.  That seemed too difficult to construct, but I did eventually manage to stun Grit using a symbol stun generated by NRD.  I don't like testing tactics outside runs, so she kept her spell save at 1 in order to protect against this sort of surge - that meant it took about half an hour to confirm that dispel at least had a chance of working against her own effects and I didn't try repeating the experiment.

The first proper action was against the slaver ship.  She went through the sewers and did the quest for Lilarcor, though only got Vallah's hand back (I suspect due to having a full inventory).  As cash is not really a problem for her any longer that was no great loss).  Captain Haegan and the guards died to skull traps and summons and the wizards did the same - with a cloudkill thrown in.  Casting area damage spells on top of skeleton warriors is a favourite tactic of mine - their high MR means they don't go hostile very often.

On to the Druid Grove where I intended to leave some skeletons in the genies tent.  Initially I thought this was a wild surge, but in fact I just mis-clicked .  Trying to go invisible Grit then summoned a demon with a surge, so quickly left the tent and got the efreeti bottle before resting to let the nabassu disappear - a mordy sword then occupied the genies while they were slaughtered.

Summons and MMM quickly worked through trolls at the Druid Grove.  The first lot of druids there got Grit to level 16 - the saving throw improvement from that means she will no longer need to pre-cast II from the RoAC before buffing - that will make progress significantly quicker and easier in future.  Summons and area damage finished the rest of the enemies off quickly and Grit watched Cernd eat Faldorn in 3 big bites.

Back in Trademeet Grit helped Tiris (though she had to buy another scroll of restoration when accidentally casting the first on herself) and cleared the tomb.  Having bought everything she wanted in Trademeet she still had over 40,000 gold, so returned to the Grove to buy Adratha's potions of power - before using summons to kill the rakshasas.  She has also just bought the Staff of Rhynn, though it's unlikely she will ever use it.

Noywad III the solo dwarven fighter entering BG 2/ToB portion of the no-reload challenge...

Noywad III has made tremdous progress since defeating Sarevok last night.EDIT: forgot his character sheet, here it is:

NoywadIIIBG2stats_zps2ed2106b.png

He's level 13 already, and has taken care of the Genies (heavy buffs) and Umar Hills issues. Initially Noywad III left Thaxssyllyia alone - but wondered, it's no fair caster types can use almost any range weapon and just plink from safety in the cove thanks to the AoP (which Noywad III can't use). Noywad III wondered is there ANY weapon/item that can range attack while keeping the IMoD equipped to prevent level drain from Thaxy's attack - yes! Magic missile wand!

Noywad III realized with the magic resistance of the dragon (around 65% I think but not sure), he would need a full charged wand, and maybe even two of them. But Corey_Russell know of two in Chapter Two so got to work on getting resources needed:

How to kill Thaxxy the Dragon with a solo plane-jane fighter without HLAs:

Resources required:

magic missile wand (Irenicus Dungeon)

magic missile wand (trapped shelf in a house in the bridge district, was a lightning trap Noywad III had to eat)

Sell and buy back both magic missile wands, putting charges at 100 each

Clarity potion (to resist the fear), can't use the dragon sword with fear immunity, since you need SoH to resist chaos and IMoD to resist level drain. You can get this potion off Dermen's shelf in Umar Hills

Improved Mace of Disruption

Shield of Harmony (to resist the chaos spell that Thaxxy opens with)

Strategy:

Noywad III equipped the IMoD for whole fight, never went into melee though. He gulps the clarity potion, has the SoH off-hand and opens with magic missile from the wand. Noywad III then runs to the cove and spams the wand and always keeping IMoD equipped to not get level drained. It's necessary to keep a finger over the pause button because every 3 rounds Thaxxy blinds - I was never able to resist it, so I would "move" Noywad III slightly, otherwise he will enter in melee since blinded which is in Thaxxy's favor. It happened to take 93 shots of the 1st wand before Thaxxy fell to the ground, dead. Took at least 20 minutes of real time to do this, but it worked.

NoywadIIIdefeatsThaxllssillyia_zpse11fc2

It's probably about time to deal with Trademeet and D'Arnise Keep issues, though likely will get the ammo belt from WK first.

Grit - elven wild mage (update 6)

Grit decided she would get things moving quickly this morning and started straight in on Aran's tasks.  Mook and the Guild Contact led to the Graveyard where Grit mainly let summons take the strain.  A skull trap sequencer was intended to make mincemeat of the defenders downstairs, but failed.  However, that attack was only about style points anyway and the back-up summons outside soon finished the defenders off.  After a rest Bodhi lasted only a few moments - level 17.

Grit agreed to go directly on to Spellhold.  Arriving in Brynnlaw a first use of an incendiary cloud added to a skull trap to kill Perth from out of sight.  His book quickly turned to true seeing and Grit left it on that.

Inside Spellhold Grit used a fake-talk to distract the demon and avoid losing any stats.  She gratefully picked up the bag of holding before clearing the first level - using incendiary cloud several times.  The death of the group with the lich in got her level 18 and the availability of a planetar.  However, there was no need to rest to get one of those for the vampire with Kitthix around!

She learnt ADHW and project image there and the latter was put to use on the second level to greatly extend her daily repertoire of spells.  Standard spell choices now include farsight to allow the image to cast aggressive spells as well as produce summons out of sight.  That does mean Grit has had to change her contingency though - as the first image produced was immediately dispelled (as a result of the hold effect applied on the caster while their image is active)!

She quickly cleared the remaining enemies and escaped .  After talking Lonk out of a fight she proceeded to take on Irenicus - a planetar produced on entry being all she really needed, though Jon took a while to manage to talk in between being hit.  Grit waited invisibly while the planetar hunted down the murderers and then left.  She got to level 19 in that battle and took an additional L6 spell.

Taking ship with Saemon she soon arrived at the City of Caverns.  I hadn't forgotten about the acid blob trap, but didn't bother protecting against it and Grit's new contingency got a workout!  Deciding I was getting a bit too blase I finished the session there.

Noywad III the Solo Dwarven Fighter - Update 2

Noywad III got some more progress this afternoon/evening. For one, he rather easily solved both D'Arnise Keep and Trademeet Druid Grove issues. He would usually dual-wield axes, (Stonefire and Frostweaver), though he did pull out a bow (though not proficient with it) against the mage in the 1st group of shadow druids so he could attack her from a distance. Everyone else in the grove, including the mound were wiped out in melee. The Keep was pretty smooth, except there was one hitch - Noywad III couldn't detect the secret passage so couldn't forge the Flail of Age or get the experience for it. I was not planning on using the FoA, so just missed out one some experience, but that should be irrelevant for a soloist like Noywad.

Tarnor's gang keeps getting in the way, but Noywad III had the sense to skip them until he had a movement rate advantage. To that end, Mekrath was battled - Noywad III used the ring of air control rings plus lots of bow shots run/return and repeat but eventually took out Mekrath. Some Umber Hulks were destroyed, with Noywad III strategically placing himself so only 1 or 2 could attack him at once. The loot in the trapped chests (other than the one for the Planar Gem) was left alone.

Noywad III returned the gem to Haer'Dalis troupe only for them to be kidnapped. He did a few buffs, Ilbratha, DUHM (going to miss this in spellhold), and improved invisibility via RoAC. The enemy mage with disintegrate in it script opened with true sight - Noywad III responded with a flurry of axes in melee - the Yuan-Ti mage was destroyed before he could get his true sight off. The rest in the initial fight were easy pickings after that. The group 3 thralls to the right did not live long either. Noywad III used a different RoAC to scout and expected umber hulks or Yuan-ti mages, but saw neither! He pressed on the attack on the lone mage seen, and she died fast, as well as a few thralls guarding a Wyvern.

Noywad summoned the genie to draw out the Master of Thrall's stun/hold - Noywad III might automatically save, but he wasn't taking any chances. Then Noywad III positioned himself so only the MoT could target Noywad III, the elementals had to go around - The MoT died quick, and Noywad III did the same trick to the Air Elementals. Noywad destroyed the orb, ran to the Warden's position (out of sight), and immediately put this new staff of air to use and sent an Air Elemental in. Noywad was going to try some stunning darts that he found, but wanted to spam his 3 silences (from Namurra) first to see what would happen - answer? The Warden got slain by the Air Elemental! It's possible some thralls were assisting, as with haste boots Noywad III is very fast now.

Selling the loot made quite a bit of gold. Now, Noywad III will deal with Tarnor's Gang who Noywad III had to keep going around for various reasons. Noywad III fired some piercing arrows at Gaius but when Gaius dispelled Noywad's III II (improved invisibility) Noywad III ran away, though still in the sewers, he's just regrouping. Some kobolds joined the fun too. At first, Noywad III was using only his bow on the melees, but things were going to slow for him. So instead, right in succession, he slew Draug Fea, Gallchobhair, and Tarnor the Hatchetman. with his two axes There were actually pretty easy without their caster support.

Time to get the casters/archer, by running around he managed to lure the archer by himself, he was slain by Stonefire and Frostweaver once more. Noywad III tried to assassinate Gaius (by attacking from invisibility) but Gaius foiled it easily by Shadow Door. While he was there, Noywad III killed the cleric quick and ran away. Only Gauis left, but Noywad III can only bring him out by being a target. Noywad's save vs. spells is -1, but that's not 100% guarantee vs. Finger of Death - what do to do, what to do? I wish I had remembered what Alesia_BH did here - she would summon a garbage summon (Ras, berserker horn, etc.) and the enemy would throw their best stuff at the summon but also showing themselves so Alesia would attack. That's just what Noywad III needed and he could have done that. But instead he showed himself and Gauis cast Finger of Death - Noywad III saved, but he could have died. Regardless Noywad III stands the victor....

What to take from this encounter: Noywad III must have dispelling arrows vs. casters. If he had one of those arrows and some biting arrows, he could have put quite a damper in Gaius tricks. The RoAC doesn't seem very effective in mages who run true sight in their scripts (it's pretty awesome on those that don't though).

Sounds like a guarantee to me :D.  The saving throw is the number you need to equal or beat and FoD has an adjustment of -2, so the die roll can't get below your saving throw of -1 ...

Noywad III the solo dwarven fighter - update 3

Noywad III has made tremendous progress. He was able to get the Ring of Gaxx, and this in turn has allowed him to use less heal potions (regeneration). He has two RoR, but he almost never has to use them.  Even if he should die, I'm very happy with what I was able to accomplish with this guy - he has gone farther than his predecessors, as Noywad I only made it to level 15.

* Hostile party in bridge district and and Captain Dennis defeated by a pro magic scroll. It was running from defeating Kangaxx earlier, so thought might as well use the scroll.

* Noywad III attacked the Rune Assassins guarding Riejek's escape under cover of improved invisibility, this turned the battle in his favor.

* Think will leave the planar sphere for chapter 6, no effective maze defense yet. Will leave Rune Assassin hideout alone for now, again no maze defense and nothing I need there anyways. Leaving guarded compound as well, not sure of mage script plus the thief might be a problem.

* Unseeing Eye quest EASILY solved - the undead are not a threat because of Noywad III's saves,, beholders by shield of Balduran (thought without the shield would have been a much different story...), and blind priests by 3x silence (Namurra).

Therefore, Noywad III thinks he might go to Windspear Hills and see what's all that about, and then finish the vampires and head for Brynnlaw. Here's his equipment if anyone is curious.

Noywad III the solo dwarven fighter - update 4

Noywad III has destroyed the enemies in Windspear Hills, including the great beast, Firkraag himself. The fights, even Samia, were pretty simple. The battles of consequence was Conster and Firkraag. Conster battle lasted a while, Noywad just kept plinking away at Conster with fire arrows until Conster fell, best stay out of possible maze range.

For Firkraag, got more than 100% fire resistance (of course), put the Dragonslayer off-hand to be sure to not get feared, put the Foebane main hand, and summoned a few helpers: Kithix, Lesser Air Elemental and genie. Noywad III's plan was to GWW ONLY when Firkraag's aura was clouded (this way Firkraag couldn't respond with PfMW). Took two GWWs, and Noywad III did get hit hard, but didn't matter, Firkraag fell first!

NoywadIIIdefeatsFirkraag_zps012b1587.png

Guess I better get on the ship to Brynnlaw...

GJ Corey - afaik Firk isn't really immune to normal weapons, so even if he uses PFMW you can hit him.  I'm not sure if dragons obey the "one spell per round" rule or they have  permanent Alacrity .....

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 46 - (update 6)
Tweedle, dwarf fighter (Grond0) & Guarh, dwarf fighter (Gate70)

The dwarven team made a bit more progress today.

Having already cleaned up the 3 Underdark areas they headed for the drow city, fighting off Simyaz and a drow ambush on the way.  Tweedle successfully resisted the compulsion to proclaim that he'd just come from Adalon's lair and they were freely admitted.  The first task was to rescue Phaere.  Guarh saw another ambush waiting and dragged them back to the bridge in order to restrict the number that could attack at once - making the fight fairly straight forward.  The same was true of Phaere's rescue - Tweedle just suffering a single intelligence drain.

Back in the city the duo rested for the first time since emerging from the illithid tunnels - and then immediately had to rest again as Phaere appeared to have temporarily lost track of what she wanted us to do.  With that sorted the remainder of Phaere's tasks were easily done.  There was a potential problem though when Guarh tried using auto-follow on Tweedle and got routed too close to Aboleth.  After being tasked to fetch Qilue's brain, the duo started the combat only for Guarh to start running round scared (presumably the result of a symbol: fear).  Tweedle's spell saves are worse than Guarh, so he took an invulnerability potion; that prompted the servants to use dispel magic on him - but they also dispelled Guarh's fear at the same time and the contest didn't last much longer after that.

After enjoying a threesome with Phaere the duo headed for the temple where Guarh switched the eggs.  That caused the Matron Mother's demon summoning to end badly for the drow and the duo reported to Adalon and left the Underdark invisibly.

Back in Athkatla they sorted out equipment and then headed for vampire HQ.  Using both iMoD and Azuredge the remainder of the top level soon went the way of the Guard. Bodhi will be for the chop at the start of the next session.

Stats:

Tweedle, fighter 23, 161 HPs (incl. 14 from ioun stone), 604 kills
Guarh, fighter 23, 159 HPs (incl. 5 from helm), 887 kills, 2 deaths

@Grond0: Sounds like you guys are making great progress. Just so you know, if you do the right dialog options, you can avoid doing the task for Qilue and get experience for that too. That's what I do, I can't be bothered with a fish's request.

If the Beastmaster can use the Amulet of Power, then all you need to do is bring clarity potion (you can get from Roger I think) and a mountain of +2 arrows (in my install, +1 arrows don't do anything against dragons, but with fixpack may be different), stand in the cove and open fire. Be sure to be ready to pause at a moment's notice since Thaxxy will blind every 3 rounds and when blinded you charge into melee, which without HLAs and solo is unlikely what you want.

If you are a group, you can use lightning wands to kill Thaxxy - this works even if you can't lower his magic resist - I generally like 2 arcane for that to speed up the kill. If you have a few restoration scrolls, you could also use mid battle to prevent someone being chunked by level drain.

EDIT: But wait you are SCS yes? In that case, I do not if the above would work, but it certainly does in vanilla.

Nowyad III the solo level 33 dwarven fighter - Update 5

Noywad III has made quick progress once more. When he got to Brynnlaw, he had a major decision to make - be committed to the asylum or fight Perth? Noywad III still doesn't have guaranteed maze defense, so elected to get committed. But problem was now, if I return won't I be killed by the bridge? Thus I didn't go to the Fish City with Sameon (thought I wanted to) and went straight to the Underdark. The only fight of interest was Irenicus - Noywad III stayed at maximum range and used bow ammunition against Irenicus - this was enough for victory.

None of the areas were completely cleared (quite unnecessary, as Noywad III is more than 6 million experience now). He battled the demon knights, primarily for the Crom Faeyr item and the armor. He ventured into the Beholder lair, only looking for the greenstone amulet to see if it says it protects against maze - the description doesn't say so. Noywad III passed on engaging the Elder Orb that might imprison. There is nothing in Illithid lair that Noywad III wants.

Therefore, Noywad III got the business of getting out here. First, the Balor threatening the gnome village was destroyed - guess 2 GWWs with foebane doesn't help it.

Next Noywad III had to fight an ambushing drow war party - fortunately improved invisibility and a few GWWs were enough. Then Noywad III bought a few items from the Drow City, most important by far was the Kaligun's amulet of magic resistance - this item will allow 100% magic resistance BEFORE hell, though only for some fights. (Actually, I forgot I can't equip until after hell trials - oh well will help for final Irenicus fight then.)  Noywad III then returned to Adalon to battle her and take her blood. Besides taking her blood, the other reason to do this is Corey_Russell knows the ambush party on way to rescue Phaere, one of the mages will use maze - again no sure defense, so going this route. Prep was simple: haste potion, boots of the north, green scroll of cold protection, dragon shield and a trusty sling. I just needed to provoke her to coming to the entrance - she can't reach me, and I can kill her at leisure with my sling. Note I had 125% cold resistance, so her breath attack was useless. I resist other stuff she tried to cast.

The escape of the Underdark was very difficult - large amount of drow and Kua-Toa had to be battled - I used up all my HLAs and had to gulp many defense and offensive minded potions to make the escape safely, but Noywad III did. Noywad III rested at the elven camp and considers his next move, probably first goal will be to get the flesh armor, since it's critical for his strategy for the endgame.
