@Grond0, Gate70: Sorry to hear that guys. Is is possible the death ray is a physical attack? Then it would make sense that the scroll didn't protect you. But if it's a magic attack, then does sound like a bug...

Death Ray - save vs death or die, considered innate ability with spell power 0, hence it bypasses Pro Magic scrolls. It does no damage at all.

P.S.

It doesn't ignore MR.

The scroll of magic protection is supposed to prevent any magic effects entering the sphere rather than just damage (hence the reason it stops charm, petrification etc).  If the death ray is therefore prevented by MR, but not by magic protection, that seems odd to say the least ...

Alac {2} - dwarven fighter/thief (update 1)

My second run through with Alac (to test the concept of completing the trilogy in a single session) has made decent progress in an early morning session.  There have been no alarms so far and he's done the dungeon, circus, Copper Coronet, harpers, top floor of Watcher's Keep, Trademeet, Mekrath, planar prison, temple sewers, liches and graveyard.  That took about two and a half hours, but that also included stealing/reselling equipment to raise enough money so that Alac doesn't have to bother with picking up treasure in future.

I'm still not happy with the best order to do things in.  I would like to do the planar prison earlier if possible, in order to get the boots of speed (to reduce the time spent walking around).  However, I'm not using any inventory cheats (such as consoling in a bag of holding) and I therefore think it's essential to get the potion container early.  However, I could do that without going in to Watcher's Keep.

I had also been thinking that the mages in the planar prison would be best dealt with using fireballs and the demons with summons and that requires some other things to be done first.  I think I could, though, use Vhailor's helm and potions of magic shielding as an alternative approach to having other summons.

Apperantly, all beholder rays are a copy of relevant mage (Fear, Disintegrate....) or clerical spells (Hold Person, Cause x wounds). They've got the same spell power, save penalty etc.

There are two exceptions to that - Anti-magic ray and Death Ray. They've got spell power - 0, considered innate abilities rather than spells (think basilisk petrification) and aren't stopped by Pro Magic (it blocks spells 1-9 level).

I can understand an innate ability being classed as non-magical and bypassing protection from magic as a result of that.  However, you said earlier that death ray did not ignore magic resistance.  It still seems like a coding flaw to me that something could be stopped by magic resistance, but not by magic protection - the in-game description for protection from magic does not suggest the intention was to restrict protection only to spell effects, but to cover all magic effects.

Basilisk gaze also works the same as beholder rays - it won't be stopped by Pro Magic scroll, but it will be blocked by Magic resistance.

But good point - if MR stops magic attacks; then Death Ray and Basilisk Gaze should be considered magic attacks; thus a Pro Magic scroll should stop them.

The problem is how the developers could code them if they didn't choose spell power = 0 (same as dispel/remove magic - they both work against Pro Magic scroll, even if they can't remove it, if succesfull, they'll dispel potion buffs).

Alac {2} - dwarven fighter/thief (2nd and final update)

My second run through with Alac (to test the concept of completing the trilogy in a single session) was going pretty well, but he just died in Windspear Hills when I assumed that a set of 3 traps would kill a stone golem.  It didn't and I was too slow to react to move him away from the golem's revenge.  As with last time I'll continue the run to complete my notes - I now think they will be good enough, so am not expecting to do a 3rd test run before the real attempt.

Quad multiplayer attempt 1 - (update 4)
Grond0, Dogdancing, corey_russell, Gate70

Another day, another death, but the quad go marching on.

They found themselves in the Bridge District at the start of the session and decided to take on Dracandros & co.  Spells were in short supply, but Yuledan successfully evened the odds at the start of the battle by silencing the casters.  After a rest, Captain Dennis and his mercenaries also found their mouths were shut and they didn't last long.

After investing some surplus funds in the Robe of Vecna and Balduran's Shield the team set off for the Temple sewers.  Yuledan quickly beat down the rakshasa's defences and inherited his cloak, while Iskvael did a bit of sneaking around Gaius to draw out his true sights.  Mekrath was pleased to get his mirror back but annoyed that it would take weeks to repair (the silver lining for him was that he only had seconds to live).  He just had a single yuan-ti mage guarding the portal gem and Wewa was given some clerical buffs to allow her to beat it up.  Outside again, the quad sneaked up on Tarnor's gang.  Gaius wasn't quick enough to buff in response to the opening attacks and died immediately, leaving the remainder pretty helpless.

After helping Roger out with a troll problem, the next target was the Unseeing Eye.  There were no problems getting into the undead area, but Yuledan discovered there that a saving throw of -1 vs death was not sufficient to safely melee a ghoul lord.  No scrolls of undead protection were to hand, but with no lich or greater mummy in opposition, melee and a flying Azuredge made short work of the undead.  Inside the beholder hive Yuledan let the flying opponents get a good look at their reflections in his shield.  He silenced most of the blind priests, although Iskvael's horror scattered them a bit and they took a while to hunt down safely.  The Unseeing Eye took a long while to show itself - possibly because it was struggling to find a space to fit itself that was not already occupied by a golem.  He did eventually appear though, just in time to be rifted and die.

After hunting down Gaal and reporting in to the temple the team sorted out the Fallen Paladins.  A bit more damage than necessary was taken there (as a result of Ratic being slow to realise he had inherited control of Yuledan's skeletons after returning to the area), but nothing to worry about.

The final action of the session was a trip to the Graveyard.  After clearing the surface tombs various groups of spiders were exterminated - including one lot congregating around Pai'Na.  Azuredge then got another good workout in the Southern tombs helping out Yuledan - his automatic save against shadow fiends, ability to turn undead and level drain protection make him an excellent undead tank (except against ghoul lords of course ).

Stats (cont. from BG1):

Grond0 - Ratic, barbarian 12, 102 HPs, 583 kills

Dogdancing - Wewa, berserker 12, 112 HPs (incl. 5 for Helm), 350 kills, 1 death

corey_russell - Yuledan, fighter 10 / cleric 10, 101 HPs, 257 kills, 2 deaths
Gate70 - Iskvael, mage 11 / thief 12, 52 HPs, 115 kills, 1 death

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 50 - (update 1)
Lucent, dwarf kensai (Grond0) & Fendor, half-orc Priest of Lathander (Gate70)

A short session today saw our 50th attempt make a start on BG2.  The aim is to try and be careful this time to make the 50th attempt golden and there were no particular problems in clearing the dungeon, the Circus and the Copper Coronet.  Let's see how long we can keep up that standard!

LucentL9.jpg

FendorL9.jpg

Stats:

Lucent, kensai 9, 101 HPs, 348 kills

Fendor, priest of Lathander 9, 59 HPs (incl. 5 from helm), 146 kills, 1 death

This may be a stretch, but the desc. clearly says magical weapons are unhindered - since the death ray is innate, perhaps a beholder ranged magical weapon (e.g. not a spell). A zap from it's eyeball or whatever. Pro magic scroll doesn't stop magical arrows, as an example...

Edit: but the fact that 100% MR stops the ray is confusing...anyone with a 2nd ed. rulebook with descriptions on beholders and their attributes?

Ayax, berserker, entering the BG2 part of No-Reload trilogy challenge.

001_zps9be238b4.jpg

I use Dungeon-b-Gone to exit the dungeon. Once cutscene ends, Ajax is awarded with level 9, obtaining +14 HP (so he's at 102 total + 5 from Balduran).

002_zps8c81eee0.jpg

I do things rather quickly now - Rage, finish circus, Rage, kill Corhvale and his friend.

003_zps551fefb3.jpg

Rage, kill Beastmaster. Note that the berserk state is much more favourable when without party members nearby. :D

004_zpsf11c233d.jpg

After rescuing Viconia (she has 21 WIS from BG1 stat tomes!) and taking in Jan (btw, this is his portrait; I love it:)

006_zpscac67372.jpg

we meet an old friend at city gates area: Kagain (he joins as a "silent" NPC, it's not a mod)

005_zps68659112.jpg

From City Gates, we travel to Umar Hills, this lets me avoid Suna Seni for now. There we finish minor quests, and kill off the ranger gang, including Valygar.

007_zps79d1ef74.jpg

Next, level 1 WK. I'm very careful here from now on due to the possibility of Vampire Wraith spawns, so Viccy scouts out the area via Farsight. No Wraiths found.

008_zps6f712c1f.jpg

Ajax demolishes the opossition single-handedly (Kagain doesn't  start with a magical weapon).

009_zps94c246bc.jpg

I finish WK level 1 up to the point where the book has to be taken from the altar - the two statues there are a bit too much for now.

Back to the Slums, we attack the slavers.

010_zpsa02c4f9f.jpg

Kagain almost died to a Flamstrike there

011_zps852429e9.jpg

Regardless, we ramp things up there.

012_zps0579404e.jpg

Upon exploring the sewers, Kagain learns that staying close to Ajax can be painful.... (tbh, I can't wait to get Silver Sword   )

013_zps90e83541.jpg

For now, Lirarcor would do.

014_zpsef8dc0d7.jpg

We didn't want to report our success to Haegan just yet, I want Edwin in party as well so he doesn't lag to much exp-wise. So our next mission are thieves' quests. Since Suna ambush is imminent when exiting Docks area, we buff inside Mae'var's hideout. He dispels our invisibility with Oracle. Wtf? We aren't even hostile...

Meh - we go in visible then.

015_zps5f7aced2.jpg

Visible or not, Suna goons had one moment of glory, when a Lightning bolt nearly downed Jan.

016_zps27d79184.jpg

But that was all they did.

017_zps30d2ce1c.jpg

I immidiately trigger the 2nd ambush by changing the destination point. Here I had another close call - berserking Ajax struck the poisoned fellow on the ground!

018_zpsbbdf89e7.jpg

I sent Kagain to talk to him and pick him up immidiately.

019_zps1795df80.jpg

For getting Edwin, care must be taken. Gethras is a dangerous oponnent.

He would probably dispel our buffs, but I have little choice in the matter. Two potions of Magic Shielding were bought in the Adventurer's Mart for this occasion as well.

020_zpscf424588.jpg

Surprisingly - no Invisibility spells on him. This reveals his kit - Necromancer. Probably the worst I could get at this point in the game, due to SCS Necros fondness for 3xSkull Trap sequencers.

021_zps46f4c8e2.jpg

Jan tried for 2x Chaos castings, but both were resisted. Rayic decided to Breach Kagain.

022_zpscc69c023.jpg

And hit him with Malison. Note that Malison is a state removable by Remove Curse (or, in Spell Revsions game, Break Enchantement). That's what Viccy does, Malison+Necromancer is a bad combo.

Ajax eats 3x Skull Trap sequencer as well.

023_zpsd72a42ce.jpg

Now, summons are created. Rayic summons a Death Knight:

STR 18/00, DEX 12, CON -, INT 17, WIS 15, CHA 16; AL Lawful Evil

HP 168, AC -4, THAC0 -1, Saving Throws 4/4/4/8/4
3 Attacks Per Round, 2d6+12 Slashing Damage (Two-Handed Sword +3)

Special Qualities:
Aura of Fear: creatures in a 10' radius must save vs. spell each round or flee in terror for 1 round
Immune to normal weapons
Immune to charm, confusion, hold, stun, sleep, poison & death effects
Cold & Electricity Resistance 100%; Magic Resistance 75%

Special Abilities:
Death Knight's Fireball: 20d6 fire damage (save vs. spell half)
Power Words: Blind, Stun or Death (once per day each)
Symbols: of Weakness or Death (once per day each)
Teleport Without Error (at will)

Viccy doesn't have that yet - she summons little skeletons. :D

024_zps8c8c0d1e.jpg

Rayic does them away with Death Spell, while Ajax disposes of the gated beast in melee.

025_zpsd5ddbd7b.jpg

Disintegrate is cast at Kagain. He survives, mostly thanks to his large HP pool.

He took 97 damage total.

026_zps8dce48e2.jpg

More summons, Rayic with ghasts now.

027_zps22107571.jpg

..but with his protections wearing off, a sole mage is no trouble.

Ajax, 2nd BG2 update

After finishing Rayic, we do the rest of the thieves' quests and agree to kill Mae'var. Edwin was adopted in party as the 5th (and final until ToB) party member.

Mae'var battle was done swiftly with a very succesfull Chaos casting.

029_zpse337ef78.jpg

They never managed to regain their senses..

030_zpsfa92f0e2.jpg

Now we collect quest exp for slavers quest, and finish Harper's quest w/o problems. Next quest is Umar Hills, with one possibly leathal battle against Shade Lord. I decided to leave Thaxy for the time being. As for Shade Lord, Secret Word  was enough to get rid of his Spell Turning, and after  a Breach he was made vulnerable.

031_zpsee8e93a3.jpg

Kagain took very heavy damage from his Black Blade of Disaster (note: I use Spellpack version of this spell - it casts a no-save Disintegrate on critical hit; it can't be used with Critical Strike HLA for that however).

He never renewed his defences

032_zps34d289d7.jpg

Back to Amn. Right now we were in the painful process of collecting money. Sorcerous Amon's gang was next in line.

We start of pretty nice, Ajax is a target for Remove Magic, while Kagain tanks.

034_zps6845fa7c.jpg

Unfortunately, the battle went downhill quite fast, I didn't use my mages correctly. Kagain got charmed, and Ajax very badly hurt. Chaos was casted, turning the tide to our favor again.

035_zps2e7fa76a.jpg

Fin. Pooky dissapeared, I could not find him anymore.

036_zps37b924dd.jpg

Same tactic was used against Temple Sewers gang (Ajax takes dispels).

037_zps88a4bdf3.jpg

Edwin died to a cleric there, either some kind of Cause WoundsSlay, or Harm got him.

But the price was both of the clerics in the same two seconds! :)

039_zps479a89ff.jpg

Gaius was apperantly an Invoker, and a fire-based one.

040_zps8beb356d.jpg

3x Fireball  sequencer. Good thing Ajax wears a 50% Fire resistance ring..

041_zpsf648bc14.jpg

Once Jan removed his Invisibility  with Detect Illusion  it was all over.

042_zpsebe1cbb3.jpg

Rakshasa was also dealt with. I didn't pre-buff which cost Kagain his life.

044_zpsbcbfbc02.jpg

We agree to help the wizard with the stolen mirror. Chaos was enough to get rid of the monsters there, including a Yuan-ti mage and some Salamanders.

045_zps35a66269.jpg

Paladins...

046_zpsd05dc557.jpg

And then Trademeet, to get us rich. Incredibly enough, even against the Rakshasas no one died, even if Kagain was very close to it.

047_zpsf9b025e7.jpg

Now my stronghold. The only notable fight was against Torgal, and that was done with 2x Chaos which confused every oponnent apart Umber Hulks.

049_zps22db0f93.jpg

We wait until Torgal's confused state wears off, and slay him. Nalia was pleased (I took her in for the quest since otherwise she would give me 650 gold. If she's in party, she pays 10650 gold).

050_zps3a99debb.jpg

Now, Thaxy. Before that, I buy the Periapt of Life protection for Ajax (immunity to level drain). He is dispeled of his buffs immidiately as Thaxy casts his PFMW.

051_zps4a85b414.jpg

Of course, at such low levels, battle is quite long-lasting. He uses breath and buffet very often.

052_zpsebe12e89.jpg

In one instance, Jan got confused (this was odd. As if Thaxy knows that Jan is the ultimate anti-invisibility member in my party...)

054_zpsaee65622.jpg

Don't forget to raise me...

055_zpsc12e8148.jpg

Viccy has a spell to reveal Thaxy as well, however, and she can't be confused (as a rule of thumb, my party cleric always has Harmony shield).

056_zps3d6eca2b.jpg

Since melee is very inconvinient due to constant buffets, Kagain used a throwing axe found on temple sewers party, and Edwin cast a lot of Magic missiles. some bypassing Thaxy's MR, others not. He had no Lower Resistance memorized.

057_zpsa842f9eb.jpg

Unfortunately, my final battle screenshot didn't get uploaded :(  - enough to say it was Edwin's MM that finished the job.

We return to Amn, and pay off the Shadow thieves. I no longer use SCS Vampires, only Polytweak modifications, since if SCS Vampires are installed the bug Vampire Mages like Tanova, which are probably more poweful than a regular vamp anyway.

Ajax, 3d BG2 update

Speaking of Vampires, Tanova was perhaps the hardest battle so far. Ajax was taken out of commision instantly with a PW:Blind.

060_zpsa33cbec4.jpg

Jan wanted to dispel illusions off her, but he got in the range of Remove magic cast at Kagain. Net result, Kagain's Chaotic Commands are dispelled and he's charmed, Jan's invisibility is dispelled and he gets level-drained.

061_zpsd52a1434.jpg

Instant PW:Stun takes Jan out for now.

062_zps0ff2ae86.jpg

Edwin manages to use Chaos on them all, succesfully.

064_zpsee761708.jpg

Jan dies to crazed Kagain.

065_zps1d9dfadc.jpg

And finally Tanova.

066_zpsc6cb977d.jpg

Bodhi soon gave up.

It has been a while since we last heard of Impish Face and his Crew but they are still going.

After making a heavy strike on Bodhi's guildhouse we thought that now is a good time to pay a visit to our fortress. It was pretty late in the evening when we arrived there so we made a camp outside the Keep only to be ambushed by some bandits who took Jaheira hostage. Impish Face took a hit into one of his numerous stoneskins and fight ensured. Greater Malison + Chaos promptly disabled them all and we taught them some lessons how to treat ladies properly though I'm not sure if they'll be able to try this new knowledge anytime soon...

After that Jaheira was summoned to the Harpers by Meronia and soon came back with a request to us to pay a visit there as well. There we were questioned by Galvarey and soon it became obvious that he meant us harm.  Jaheira decided to break with the Harpers and help us out and we were forced into a deadly conflict with Galvarey and his Harper Goons. Viconia opened with Greater Command putting three of them out of fight, Impish Face hit with Greater Malison followed by Nalia's Chaos - all are affected, the fight is over.

En route out of district we cleared the pirate's hideout and headed onto the Windspear Hills. Viconia couldn't find a better time to kid Valygar  ... but at least she redeemed herself soon enough. Inside the Dungeon Ruhk Transmutter got a pair of Fire Elementals to play with though the final trophy was claimed by Mazzy. Golems are of no real threat now but so are those damned vampires...   I had the whole Crew hidden by Pixie Dust while Impish Face applied a Scroll of Protection from Undead. Soon he came across a harsh surprise! With all other their nasty abilities it took a lot (and I mean a LOT!) of time (and some resources such as True Sight scrolls, best Strength potion and Oil of Speed to maximize the damage output) to deal with them all (or I have thought so...).

th_Baldr167.png th_Baldr168.png th_Baldr169.png

Samia's treasure consist of Ring of Wizardry and Periapt of Life Protection. Kaol Dimention Door-ed to our hidded party only to be spotted, stripped of protections and killed. The rest of Samia's group were of no threat. To my pleasant surprise Nalia is quite deadly with her Boomerang Dagger:

th_Baldr176.png th_Baldr182.png

We left a pair of Fire Elementals, Aerial Servant and Skeleton Warrior to guard Garren's daughter before descending  into Firkraag's lair and even though Skelly Warrior quickly turned his allegiance (I still don't understand why  )  Conster doesn't last long and Garren's daughter was set free.

th_Baldr177.png th_Baldr178.png th_Baldr179.png

On our way back we encountered yet another nasty surprise but Viconia cast NPP on Impish Face, Jaheira hid the rest with Pixie Dust and Impish Face sliced that Eminent Vampire with Frostreaver Axe (as she was immune to FoA' blunt damage completely).

Notable Randomized loot from that journey: Ring of Danger Sense, Armor of the Viper +5, Spear of the Unicorn +2, Dragon's Bane +3, Bracers of Defense AC 3, Elven Court Bow +3, Methild's Harp, Ring of Wizardry, Periapt of Life Protection.

Current state:

Impish Face: Fighter (11) / Illusionist (12), 498 kills (Bone Golem);

Jaheira: Fighter (10) / Druid (13), 131 kills (Bone Golem); 3 revival

Nalia: Swashbuckler (5) / Mage (14), 86 kill (Unseeing Eye);

Viconia: Cleric (15), 11 kill (Efreeti);

Valygar: Stalker (13), 94 kills (Bone Golem);

Mazzy: Fighter (43), 125 kills (Master of Thralls); 1 revival

to be continued...

Ajax, 4th BG2 update

After Bodhi was dealt with, it was time to do Nether Scroll quest for Edwin. Viccy summoned some Skeleton warriors to take the innitial barrage.

068_zpsdf966e80.jpg

Lich responds with a Boneguard (Refinements - specific creature). They're probably weaker than a Glabrezu demon, so I'm fine with it.

069_zpsbc10af10.jpg

It doesn't take long to dispose of the skeletal creature. Lich is still having problems with Viccy's summons.

070_zps702c2830.jpg

But he summoned a Death Knight as well. His 20d6 fireball makes short work of the summoned undead.

071_zpsd60657e7.jpg

..and here he comes, in all his glory.

072_zps9b2bed56.jpg

I retreat the caster types back, and let Ajax and Kagain smack him down.

073_zps01205c08.jpg

Next, Lich comes in.

074_zpsa13e78cf.jpg

..kills Kagain

075_zps6b8e27b1.jpg

But he wasted his most powerful spells already. It's not long before he starts to take damage.

076_zps01ce6dc6.jpg

and eventually die without doing more harm.

077_zpsfe528449.jpg

Next, we return to WK to finish off level 1 completely. Quite a few healing potions downed, but we were succesfull.

078_zps79570667.jpg

Thinking now about it, I forgot to pick up Foebane. :(

We also finished much of level 2 WK. All apart the Chromatic Demon, that is. Ajax lost his morale there once, and could not be affected by Remove Fear  spell. Odd.

079_zpse30301c1.jpg

Regardless, with Kagain's and Edwin's help, he prevailed.

080_zps214b7a65.jpg

We finish by setting in the scepter keys and running out of the area. We'll come back at a later date, this demon is too much for now.

081_zps8606f826.jpg

I didn't want to set sail for Spellhold just yet; so our next quest is Planar Sphere.

You have initiated planar travel. May no Celestials get summoned! :D

Ajax, 4th BG2 update

With  some (rather big) help from our summoned creatures (Edwin has all 6th level slots devoted to various Conjurations including Nishruu, Wyvern Call, various undead creatures, Yan has 2x MSII, and Viconia also has 2x skeletons) we have succesfully defeated the halfling bunch.

083_zps44c1adda.jpg

Next major battle is Lavok himself. He evaporated our first summoned bunch very quickly.

084_zpsa5613d2d.jpg

Then he summoned a Death Knight, which disposed of the 2nd summoned bunch with a fireball.

085_zps6bc9bc64.jpg

Ajax slapped him down with a mega-crit.

086_zps4d446765.jpg

Viconia resisted a FoD and took control over Lavok's summoned ghasts.

088_zpsfb6863a2.jpg

Edwin almost died when he cast a short-range Breach against 2x Fireshields

089_zpsde4a203b.jpg

But after having his sequencered protections removed, Lavok gave up.

090_zps5dbd786b.jpg

Now we go outside, and take the heart of a demon.

091_zps473de442.jpg

Tolgerias (apperantly conjurer kit) was a long and tedious battle. His assitant mage died very quickly, no PFMW on her meant she has a very short life span.

092_zps1e81b891.jpg

First we needed to dispel his illusion protections.

093_zps75fa2488.jpg

Edwin got disabled by a powerful anti-mage trigger Pierce Magic-Breach-Silence.

094_zpse36d4cc6.jpg

Then Time Stop. Remove magic + a summon.

095_zpsd50aa02b.jpg

He gates two Cornugon demons.

096_zps30acf46c.jpg

Which need to go down quickly. Unfortunately, this takes a while, and both Ajax and Kagain had troubles against them.

We kept Tolgerias busy with summoned undead.

097_zps8359a40e.jpg

One by one, demons die, as Tolgerias summons more and more various creatures. No more demons, however.

098_zps1e3b298d.jpg

Jan hid everyone vulnerable in an Invisibility sphere, to get some breathing room, while Ajax and Kagain kill of the summoned beasts.

099_zps77903f68.jpg

With them gone, we go to fight the mage.

100_zps98d8cfe2.jpg

He tries to cover himself in a sequencer Stoneskin-2x Fireshield

101_zpsf55db96e.jpg

But at range, Edwin doesn't care about Fireshield damage.

102_zpsdaffafac.jpg

It's the sky, after all...

Ajax, final BG2 update

Upon finishing Planar sphere, Ajax decided that he has a strange fondness for Plane travels, so decided to help Haer'dalis out of Planar Prison.

Things started rather messy, but without any serious danger.

105_zps3a94b090.jpg

106_zps20eb95d2.jpg

107_zps07349f95.jpg

I was quite afraid of meeting the Warden. Edwin summoned a Nishruu, Viccy some undead, and threw a Firestorm on his location.

108_zps1b1e0d11.jpg

Unfortunately, Warden pulls out his Timestop.

109_zps0deb1c20.jpg

And splats Viconia while invisible!

110_zps26b869bc.jpg

Our awful positioning had us four survivors all hit by Remove magic. All buffs are off apart Kagain's Death Ward, and Warden is on our tail, and we can't see him - apperantly he used Mislead spell (note: with Spellpack, one can't read in the combat log Mislead has been casted, since it pretty much defeats the main purpose of this spell)

111_zps3c582936.jpg

We go in to kill Mislead clone. Nasty surprise awaits us, 2(!) Wardens (apperantly Mislead and Simulacrum), the real one is still invisible, and Umber Hulk Elders want our blood as well.

Edwin dies to invisible Warden's Black Blade of Disaster whacking.

112_zpsb5bee7f1.jpg

We attack what was apperantly Warden's Simulacrum. That's crap, since he's still invisible, and Simmy re-cast protections. A grave mistake - Ajax had not Lirarcor equiped, and gets confused by hulks.

113_zps998a0920.jpg

Kagain gets disintegrated by BBoD. Jan is also confused. I have no more controlable members.

114_zpsbc5794ec.jpg

Cornered and confused, Ajax attacks like a beast! Does he stand a chance here!?

115_zps7db28cd7.jpg

..but his wounds were many, and he succumbs to Uber Hulk attacks. R.I.P. Ajax.

Trick in the Planar Prison is that you don't break the orb until after the Warden is dead. That way the floor portals stay active and you can stash the party inside them where the monsters can't follow you. Force the Warden to burn his spells chasing ghosts. Much more effective than the brief fight with the liberated thralls, plus you get to kill the thralls for more XP.

Yikes! That sounds like a vicious fight there Aasim. The warden in your install sounds more powerful than Irenicus...Best of luck in your next run.

I know I can "hide" them, but I don't really like to do that.

I made 2 big mistakes - not equpining Lirarcor, and using Fire Storm on him, he's invurnerable to fire on my install. But thinking of it, the only real way to do this without putting anyone in grave danger at these levels (Ajax was 14, Edwin 13) is summons-galore; even there, Umber Hulk Elders would give be headache. I can't use invisibility since he sees through it.

His BBoD can disintegrate on a critical, no save is allowed (albeit Disintegrate doesn't instantly kill with Spell Revisions, it does massive damage instead, about a hundred).

Probably should have sailed to Spellhold anyway....

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 50 - (update 2)
Lucent, dwarf kensai (Grond0) & Fendor, half-orc Priest of Lathander (Gate70)

As this is the 50th attempt the intention was to try and proceed safely.  My previous update wondered how long that would happen and the answer was ... not very long.  However, they are still going, so have the opportunity to improve things next time.

The problems started immediately when we failed to check that we had rested before wandering around looking for Suna Seni.  That made the encounter far harder when it did occur and Lucent was forced to retreat before killing the mage.  He saved against a horror while running - failure there would probably have been fatal.  In addition I was reluctant to allow him to take a healing potion for the first time, though he did eventually do that after he was tagged by a Melf's Acid Arrow while in his inventory - leaving him with a more comfortable appearing number of HPs after using missile fire to finish off the last opponents.

After resting, the Renfeld encounter was no problem and the duo moved on to confront Prebek - Lucent being buffed with chaotic commands and protection from lightning there - and loot the harper HQ.

The final action of the session was at Watcher's Keep.  There were no vampiric wraiths waiting so the initial encounters were easy.  However, Lucent's poor AC meant he had to run away while fighting the statues at the end and hide using a potion of invisibility to avoid getting shot up by the archer.  A rest to get more summons available allowed the remaining statues to be finished off without further trouble.

Stats:

Lucent, kensai 10, 104 HPs, 380 kills

Fendor, priest of Lathander 10, 61 HPs (incl. 5 from helm), 150 kills, 1 death

Why no vampyric wraiths? Does it depend on the level you are at?
