For others playing SCS: is this Beholder Gank squad in the sewers a normal occurrence?
Actually, yes, I think you have to have a certain component installed however (imp.Minor Encounters or similar). Do you?

Got a couple of minutes free while I wait for some other stuff.
Beholders are spawned in during chapter 6. So more likely a case of you doing the same routine/order each time Serg and not being in the sewers at that point? Script is C6BEHOLD.BCS

That explains a lot. If I don't have enough money for the Shield of Balduran in chapter two, I will indeed sometimes post-pone Unseeing Eye quest until chapter 6, and thus might run into beholders.

Ah, so with Improved Minor Encounters from SCS (yeah, it's installed) I ended up with higher level spawns that should only be in chapter 6... I still swear that I saw a teleport animation before I got assaulted, though. Beholders now scare the living daylights out of me, by the way: they've gone from number 3 enemy to number 1. I'll bow out of no-reloads for a time while I figure out just how crazy they've made certain encounters and areas in SCS; good luck to you all!

Indeed! I always do the Unseeing Eye in Ch.2/3 and if I ever visit those sewers in Ch.6 its only to deal with Mind Suckers there. Sure enough I don't check the other parts of the sewers then. Thanks for the info!
@Epsil0: have fun with the rest of your run!

No no. That's a "custom encounter" I think. It has nothing to do with "random spawns"; hence the teleport animation.

Sorry for the long delay guys;
Puk is still going and I’ll post a new one soon… bg2ee is just a mess of bugs and I’ve been forced into repairing Mazzy dialog files so the story could progress.

Bg2ee run update 1.18,
All in a Tendays work by Puk,
We had the red dragon scales made into armour for Sarah and visited the temple again for rest, they had no new quests to do but they did have a rumour about a guarded compound with nice loot. I put up ‘pfe’ (protection from evil) all round and sent a cloaked Aerie ahead to investigate the down stairs defences… in dropped a demon and some peons but as Aerie was under ‘pfe’ the demon turned against his so called allies and we mostly just watched the carnage before advancing upstairs for an easy battle with yet another magic sword for loot. After that we re-entered the sewer tunnels and did a spot of squid hunting for a very nice hammer that Haer'Dalis wanted upgraded but Cromwell still needed a scroll first so it’s back to the Temple Ruins for us.

The black worm doesn’t fit under the archway so we put up some half hearted buffs, two pets and Sarah tagged him with her standard opening move of a slow moving swarm then quickly step forward and fire a ‘Doom’--- this way the ‘Doom’ hits first. Thaxll'ssillyia responded with ‘pfmw’ and a strong ‘dispel’ which is pretty standard and also the reason we didn’t stress about our buffs.

Neera hit him with ‘lower resistance’ then Aerie and I ‘Flamestrike’[d] but the shadow drain killed Sarah before we could end the fight so it wasn’t a decisive victory. After raising Sarah and resetting our spell books we moved on up to the alter and dispatched shadow Patrick but the Shade Lord wasn’t there and we (literally) bumped into him as we were moving through the tunnels to leave.

Without his alter he isn’t all that difficult and ‘repulse un[-]dead’ kept him at an arm’s length as we whittled away his defensive images and then ‘Flamestrike’[d] him down… Sarah agreed to let Mazzy have the glory of telling the Umar Hills residents and then we went to the slums inn for a spot of celebratory pit fighting before delivering the Halfling safely home and collecting our fighting Druid again.

Bg2ee run update 1.19,
The sport of Squid-stomping by Puk,
With the surface battles sorted (at least for now) I’ve decided to purchase two ‘Deathfog’ scrolls and return to the underdark in order to cross off some unfinished business. *

The basic squids die quickly to range weapons and the Umber Hulks are very allergic to ‘Cloudkill’ spells so the only dangerous battle is the final boss which has to be finished off before any resting is allowed but the girls came up with a plan to deal with it. Imoen unlocks the top door then retreats as a cloaked Aerie opens it and quickly retreats herself--- now all three of them cast ‘Deathfog’ into the room, the timing is a little tight because Imoen knows the spell but Aerie and Neera both used a scroll. The delayed nature of this spell works well here because when the brain takes damage it automatically shuts (and re-locks) the door trapping all but the squids inside the area and while two of the Illithid did teleport into melee, we didn’t have an issue.

* SCS no resting makes this harder so the scrolls off set this by giving me an easy way to kill the brain.

Bg2ee run update 1.20,
We spit in the eye by Neera,
Well it’s a good thing we killed the gate guards before because as soon as we entered the Beholder caves they all came running (well floating) --- I placed my pet Hakeashar in the narrow passage to keep the 10 or so Beholders and Gauths interested as we flooded the tunnel with damage over time spells. Only three things even effect my Hakeashar and the hive mother is conceivably the only issue but this one didn’t have a ‘Death’ spell and it’s anti-magic and ‘Domination’ rays are countered by my “Wand of Cloudkill” and “Greenstone Amulet” respectfully.

The hive mother took a long time to die but the end was never really going to be a problem and she had the final piece Haer'Dalis needs for his sword so we get to return to Athkatla now.

Bg2ee run update 1.21,
Trouble in elf town by Puk,
We entered the docks to visit Cromwell's Forge then talked to a very scary spirit about putting his body back together and we collected them but I’m holding off with handing them over because I don’t trust the git to pay up and --- this is hard to admit--- I doubt we are strong enough to force him.

With his new sword in hand Haer'Dalis volunteered to lead our charge against the cats and golems roaming the elf city while the rest of us stayed at range. All the elves were worried about a black (Druid) dragon but Sarah knew he was allergic to lightning so basically we packed our spells and let Neera open with a 3X ‘Skull Trap’, then Imoen fired 3X ‘Lightning Bolt’ and Sarah finished him off with ‘Call Lightning’ then we mopped up the remaining city and thanked the elves for all the help they gave me--- Aerie, Sarah and I levelled up and picked ‘Energy Blades’, ‘Fire Elemental Transformation’ and ‘Summon Fallen Deva’.
Now we have a dilemma, all my other Athkatla quests are done but I still need Haer'Dalis to get his, spike trap ability before I can get the “Ring of Gaxx” --- follow Irenicus or start Watcher's Keep?

@Blackraven: If you are solo, there's never any reason to buy full plate. Instead go to Docks and the Sea's Bounty, kill Officer Dirth (ridiculously easy if you have reflection shield, as he starts with ranged). No rep loss, no adds, no aggro of other patrons, no drawbacks at all. There's a quest item he drops but you only need that if you might recruit Nalia.

Bg2ee run update 1.22,
Watchers keep: level 1 and 2; by Puk,
The statues proved inadequate against Haer'Dalis--- we sent the pet Hakeashar to lore them back to us inside the room and dispatched them without issue.

The second level is all about elements, I’m immune to lightning so volunteered to turn the fan on and Haer'Dalis did the other three rooms--- he is immune to poison so that really helped. We found some nice weapons that nobody really wanted then a ‘Spell Trigger’ scroll in one of the cubbyholes which nearly started an argument amongst the arcane group members but we eventually agreed that Aerie should get this one because she can pack it with ‘Bolt of Glory’ for best effect. The Chromatic Demon stayed in his Balor form which made our non-fire attacks worthless but we still managed to whittle him down before the buffs wore off… on to the maze next.

@Blackraven, love the "tag your it"... is he staying solo all the way or just for now?
#9918
Posté 01 novembre 2014 - 02:49
@ussnorway, I'm afraid I don't get what you mean by "tag your it"
As to your question whether Kilbin will remain solo, I'm still undecided. He might, and with the Vhailor's Helm simulacrum casting PfMagic once a day on him without wasting the Green Scroll, he actually may get farther than I expected before trying an unmodded Wizard Slayer. However, I've also considered picking up an NPC every once in a while for their quests and maybe a a bit more (e.g. doing the Planar Sphere with Valygar, Unseeing Eye with Keldorn, Temple Ruins with Mazzy). And yet another option, something I've long wanted to do, would be to have Kilbin form an anti-arcane party. A wizard wrecking team with Keldorn, Valygar, Korgan and Kilbin. (Anomen and/or Jaheira, whose Insect spells fit the theme pretty well, could also be candidates.) Going with a party like that would probably the wisest decision in no-reload terms.

Thanks I'll try to break something just for you.
FYI Tag your it = a running game for kids, you touch (tag) someone then run away and they try to chase after you.
I like the idea of an anti-arcane magic team... don't tell Imoen but I would drop the pally... perhaps Viconia?

Aaaah of course, you mean by the fountain
Good fun, yes.
Hmm not sure about Vicky. In party runs she's almost always there, but what I have in mind for this playthrough is simply the most brutal team of Mage killers possible. I never use Keldorn (don't like his character really), but . Maybe one of the new NPCs, now that I'm playing EE. Dorn perhaps... Of the female NPCs Mazzy comes to mind (besides Jaheira, another NPC I'm not too fond of)..

Tycho, entering BG2 challenge. First (and final) update ![]()
After dealing with Kalah and adopting Kivan, things were going rather well. Tycho killed a cat - apperantly a bad luck one.
With Kivan's help, CC was cleared from slavers.
Then, Umar Hills. Shade Lord disintegrated Mazzy there.
He still died. So far, so good. I only need Edwin to ramp up my party.
This is a new spell in Spell Revisions - a substitute for Mantle. Whoever makes a hit on this, get's hit by Prismatic Spray.
Needles to say, Tycho goes berserk after getting struck by sequencered Flame Arrows (half of which struck Mazzy, the spell works as a multitarget spell with Spell Revisions)
Mantle expired before Tycho slapped Prismatic Mantle. Pure luck. But now Rayic casts Flesh to Stone. Again, this spell is quite changed. It won't kill like in vanilla, but in this instance (no Stone to Flesh scrolls) it would be the same.
After 3 rounds, Tycho made the save ![]()
We adopt Edwin as final party member. He still had his Minor Sequencer memorized before Sarevok finale in BG1 ![]()
Killed Mae'var, now I had plenty of money to work with.
Went to Slums to pay Gaelan Bayle 15k. Since we were still buffed (all apart Tycho, who got hit by Mae'var's Remove magic) I decided that before we pay we should kill the slavers. Unfortunately, Tycho got blasted by a multitude of spells and arrows, went berserk, and died near the stairs he never got to climb.
I'll be rolling a new character soon. Probably a barbarian.
