For others playing SCS: is this Beholder Gank squad in the sewers a normal occurrence?

Actually, yes, I think you have to have a certain component installed however (imp.Minor Encounters or similar). Do you?

Got a couple of minutes free while I wait for some other stuff.

Beholders are spawned in during chapter 6. So more likely a case of you doing the same routine/order each time Serg and not being in the sewers at that point? Script is C6BEHOLD.BCS

That explains a lot. If I don't have enough money for the Shield of Balduran in chapter two, I will indeed sometimes post-pone Unseeing Eye quest until chapter 6, and thus might run into beholders.

Ah, so with Improved Minor Encounters from SCS (yeah, it's installed) I ended up with higher level spawns that should only be in chapter 6... I still swear that I saw a teleport animation before I got assaulted, though. Beholders now scare the living daylights out of me, by the way: they've gone from number 3 enemy to number 1. I'll bow out of no-reloads for a time while I figure out just how crazy they've made certain encounters and areas in SCS; good luck to you all!

Indeed! I always do the Unseeing Eye in Ch.2/3 and if I ever visit those sewers in Ch.6 its only to deal with Mind Suckers there. Sure enough I don't check the other parts of the sewers then. Thanks for the info!

@Epsil0: have fun with the rest of your run!

No no. That's a "custom encounter" I think. It has nothing to do with "random spawns"; hence the teleport animation.

Sorry for the long delay guys;

Puk is still going and I’ll post a new one soon… bg2ee is just a mess of bugs and I’ve been forced into repairing Mazzy dialog files so the story could progress.

Bg2ee run update 1.18,

Hear text as mp3,

All in a Tendays work by Puk,

We had the red dragon scales made into armour for Sarah and visited the temple again for rest, they had no new quests to do but they did have a rumour about a guarded compound with nice loot. I put up ‘pfe’ (protection from evil) all round and sent a cloaked Aerie ahead to investigate the down stairs defences… in dropped a demon and some peons but as Aerie was under ‘pfe’ the demon turned against his so called allies and we mostly just watched the carnage before advancing upstairs for an easy battle with yet another magic sword for loot. After that we re-entered the sewer tunnels and did a spot of squid hunting for a very nice hammer that Haer'Dalis wanted upgraded but Cromwell still needed a scroll first so it’s back to the Temple Ruins for us.

baldr215.jpgbaldr216.jpg

The black worm doesn’t fit under the archway so we put up some half hearted buffs, two pets and Sarah tagged him with her standard opening move of a slow moving swarm then quickly step forward and fire a ‘Doom’--- this way the ‘Doom’ hits first. Thaxll'ssillyia responded with ‘pfmw’ and a strong ‘dispel’ which is pretty standard and also the reason we didn’t stress about our buffs.

baldr218.jpgbaldr219.jpg

Neera hit him with ‘lower resistance’ then Aerie and I ‘Flamestrike’[d] but the shadow drain killed Sarah before we could end the fight so it wasn’t a decisive victory. After raising Sarah and resetting our spell books we moved on up to the alter and dispatched shadow Patrick but the Shade Lord wasn’t there and we (literally) bumped into him as we were moving through the tunnels to leave.

baldr221.jpgbaldr222.jpg

Without his alter he isn’t all that difficult and ‘repulse un[-]dead’ kept him  at an arm’s length as we whittled away his defensive images and then ‘Flamestrike’[d] him down… Sarah agreed to let Mazzy have the glory of telling the Umar Hills residents and then we went to the slums inn for a spot of celebratory pit fighting before delivering the Halfling safely home and collecting our fighting Druid again.

The sport of Squid-stomping by Puk,

With the surface battles sorted (at least for now) I’ve decided to purchase two ‘Deathfog’ scrolls and return to the underdark in order to cross off some unfinished business. *

baldr223.jpgbaldr224.jpg

The basic squids die quickly to range weapons and the Umber Hulks are very allergic to ‘Cloudkill’ spells so the only dangerous battle is the final boss which has to be finished off before any resting is allowed but the girls came up with a plan to deal with it. Imoen unlocks the top door then retreats as a cloaked Aerie opens it and quickly retreats herself--- now all three of them cast ‘Deathfog’ into the room, the timing is a little tight because Imoen knows the spell but Aerie and Neera both used a scroll. The delayed nature of this spell works well here because when the brain takes damage it automatically shuts (and re-locks) the door trapping all but the squids inside the area and while two of the Illithid did teleport into melee, we didn’t have an issue.

baldr225.jpgbaldr226.jpg

* SCS no resting makes this harder so the scrolls off set this by giving me an easy way to kill the brain.

Bg2ee run update 1.20,

We spit in the eye by Neera,

Well it’s a good thing we killed the gate guards before because as soon as we entered the Beholder caves they all came running (well floating) --- I placed my pet Hakeashar in the narrow passage to keep the 10 or so Beholders and Gauths interested as we flooded the tunnel with damage over time spells. Only three things even effect my Hakeashar and the hive mother is conceivably the only issue but this one didn’t have a ‘Death’ spell and it’s anti-magic and ‘Domination’ rays are countered by my “Wand of Cloudkill” and “Greenstone Amulet” respectfully.

baldr227.jpgbaldr228.jpgbaldr229.jpgbaldr230.jpg

The hive mother took a long time to die but the end was never really going to be a problem and she had the final piece Haer'Dalis needs for his sword so we get to return to Athkatla now.

Trouble in elf town by Puk,

We entered the docks to visit Cromwell's Forge then talked to a very scary spirit about putting his body back together and we collected them but I’m holding off with handing them over because I don’t trust the git to pay up and --- this is hard to admit--- I doubt we are strong enough to force him.

baldr231.jpgbaldr232.jpgbaldr233.jpgbaldr234.jpgbaldr235.jpgbaldr236.jpg

With his new sword in hand Haer'Dalis volunteered to lead our charge against the cats and golems roaming the elf city while the rest of us stayed at range. All the elves were worried about a black (Druid) dragon but Sarah knew he was allergic to lightning so basically we packed our spells and let Neera open with a 3X ‘Skull Trap’, then Imoen fired 3X ‘Lightning Bolt’ and Sarah finished him off with ‘Call Lightning’ then we mopped up the remaining city and thanked the elves for all the help they gave me--- Aerie, Sarah and I levelled up and picked ‘Energy Blades’, ‘Fire Elemental Transformation’ and ‘Summon Fallen Deva’.

Now we have a dilemma, all my other Athkatla quests are done but I still need Haer'Dalis to get his, spike trap ability before I can get the “Ring of Gaxx” --- follow Irenicus or start Watcher's Keep?

Great progress ussnorway, you're nearing completion of SoA, good luck and keep it up!

Meanwhile entering from BG1, Kilbin the (solo) Wizard Slayer:

This is his character record, with proficiencies and saves, at the start of the game.
Kilbin was released  from his cell by his old childhood friend Imoen, but the Wizard Slayer sent her off right after she set him free. He wasn't pleased to see that the lass had become a Mage herself. He released Minsc and Jaheira and dismissed them. Being in a rush to get out of his prison, he told Ataqah the Genie that he didn't have time for him and his riddles.
The Dungeon is full of nasty traps and hostile Duergar. Individually the Grey Dawrves do not pose much of a threat but in groups they showed they can really hurt a lone, ill-equipped Dwarf such as Kilbin. He tried to separate them as a much as possible in order to fight one or two at a time. One of the Duergar was a Mage, but he didn't cause Kilbin any trouble. One hit sent the wizard panicking.
With the help of the Dryads, Ataqah was released in return for the Sword of Chaos, promoting Kilbin to level 9. He placed his first pip in Axes, and intends to specialize in that weapon upon reaching level 12. The many Mephits were generally dealt with a few at a time.
All the violence caused Kilbin to rest twice and to drink most of the healing potions he found.
On the second level Kilbin recruited Yoshimo for his Short Bow and sent him packing right after that. He released and killed Frennedan but shunned the Ulvaryl the vampire as well as the forge with more Duergar including a Mage with Charm spells. He battled his way past a trio of Assassins and then found his way out of the dreadful place.

At the Promenade Kilbin investigated the Circus and exposed Kalah without any difficulty before making his way to the Slums. There he was accosted by Brus, offered help in finding Imoen/Irenicus by Gaelan Bayle, and then led to the Copper Coronet by Brus again. He beat fight Amalas in the fighting pit, and freed Hendak. This was no small feat for the Dwarf. He had to kill various Copper Coronet Guards, including a Mage that failed to charm him. And the Beastmaster and his pets gave Kilbin a hard time.

BTW there seems to be a bug with the 'rest until healed option'. It took Kilbin five full days to recover inspite of one CLW Bhaalpower and of his 20 CON. I disabled the option.

Kilbin proceeded to explore the Sewers below the tavern. Dealing with Hobgoblins, Jellies, an Otyugh, two Carrion Crawlers and a group of Kobolds allowed him to acquire Lilarcor, and thus protection from Charm and Confusion. The sword is to be replaced at one point by the Shield of Harmony, not sure when though.

A second bug surfaced when upon returning to the Copper Coronet Kilbin found Bernard hostile for no reason whatsoever. He killed the innkeeper and I CLUA'd a new Bernard into the game.

With Lilarocor at hand, Kilbin felt safe enough to start transitioning between different city areas, and survive the many ambushes prepared for him. He ran from all these ambushes (including the Suna Seni / Arbane's Sword one), because immunity to Charm and Confusion is nice, but there are more unwanted status effects than those two.

In the Temple District Kilbin accepted to try and procure Sarles' services for the Temple of Helm. He provided the sculptor with an illithium alloy. (The real illithium isn't available to Kilbin, at least not yet, since he failed to force Neb's door, even with DUHM.) Sarles wasn't satisfied with the alloy but the Helmites were. They even tipped him a job for the Temple of Lathander: retrieving a holy ring, stolen by thieves working for the Temple of Talos, in the Slums area. Kilbin did this job as well.
I think that Kilbin leveled up to level 10 somwhere around this point though I don't remember exactly

In the Bridge District the Dwarf 'solved' the Skinner Murders, i.e. triggered the dialogue with Vellin Dahn, fled from the Ghasts and above all the Rune Assassins, and reported to Lieutenant Aegisfield.
Also in the Bridge District, Kilbin found the men who had buried Tirdir, a poor sod he had encountered in a grave in the Graveyard District (where he had also reunited Wellyn with his stuffed bear and found a new ward for a mourning Paladin). Tirdir's buriers were tough and would have beaten Kilbin or caused him to flee if it weren't for his Horror Bhaalpowers.
Kilbin found a pair of Boots of Avoidance on one his foes, and procured the Silver Pantaloons via Lady Elgea and Welther. (The Golden and the Silver pantaloons are stored in a chest in the Copper Coronet for now, along with a suit of human leather armor, and Dryads' acorns.)

With the aforementioned boots Kilbin reckoned his chances against the Slavers would improve, so he paid their stronghold a visit. What followed was a messy fight against loads of strong, hardy Slaver Guards led by Captain Haegan. The Dwarf first slew their Priest of Cyric, and then horrored various guards, including the captain, but more guards just kept coming, and even two Kuo-Toa joined the fray.
Kilbin saw no other option than to retreat, back to the sewers, and into the inn. Most of the guards followed him, and are likely to linger there until the Dwarf returns, better equipped, to deal with them. He made it back into the sewers without being followed by the many guards, and found only the captain and one guard. He dispatched both with (mostly) his darts.
Inside the Slaver Compund the Wizard Slayer dealt relatively easily with the Trolls and with two Mages who were ill-prepared for battle.

Kilbin is now a level 11 Wizard Slayer who still isn't really prepared for battling Mages, and who lacks the proper attire to deal with fighters and fighter mobs. He's got about 22k GP, which is 7k short of Vhailor's Helm (which I consider using for having the simulacrum cast PfMagic on Kilbin), and his weapons and armor could do with an upgrade as well. Time to think carefully what the Dwarf's next move will be....
I feel he isn't ready to fight with Tarnor the Hatchetman  & co in the sewers below the Temple District, and Mencar & co seem a bit much to ask as well. Kilbin could really use a suit of full plate though as well as a better weapon than his current Lonmg Sword +1. Buying full plate from Ribald would mean being another 10k GP away from Vhailor's Helm (in addition to the current 7k).

@Blackraven: If you are solo, there's never any reason to buy full plate. Instead go to Docks and the Sea's Bounty, kill Officer Dirth (ridiculously easy if you have reflection shield, as he starts with ranged). No rep loss, no adds, no aggro of other patrons,  no drawbacks at all. There's a quest item he drops but you only need that if you might recruit Nalia.

Here I'm pondering over how to acquire a suit of full plate mail, when next thing you know Mr Steelgut decides to visit the Den of the Seven Dales. He goes upstairs, sees Smaeluv the Barbarian (his companions are out of sight), and provokes him with a few darts. He descends the stairs, and guess who's right behind him? Mencar Pebblecrusher... Kilbin knows he won't stand a chance against his fellow Dwarf who is better equipped and uses potions (incl. Fire Giant Strength). So Kilbin runs outside, still pursued by Mencar, toward the southwest exit. There, two Amnian Guards come to Kilbin's aid.

A tiresome dance around the fountain is carried out, in which Kilbin hurls his darts at his fellow Dwarf, the Amnian Guards (SCS improved I think) hit Mencar with their Halberds, and Mencar has eyes only for Kilbin who remains out of reach.

This could only end with Mencar's death, and it did. The killing blow was for one of the guards, and I think that's just, as they had been dealing more damage.

Thanks Corey for your excellent tip. Killing Officer Dirth in the Docks District shall be Kilbin's next mission. Selling the armor would bring him very close to Vhailor's Helm.

Watchers keep: level 1 and 2; by Puk,

The statues proved inadequate against Haer'Dalis--- we sent the pet Hakeashar to lore them back to us inside the room and dispatched them without issue.

baldr237.jpgbaldr239.jpgbaldr240.jpgbaldr242.jpg

The second level is all about elements, I’m immune to lightning so volunteered to turn the fan on and Haer'Dalis did the other three rooms--- he is immune to poison so that really helped. We found some nice weapons that nobody really wanted then a ‘Spell Trigger’ scroll in one of the cubbyholes which nearly started an argument amongst the arcane group members but we eventually agreed that Aerie should get this one because she can pack it with ‘Bolt of Glory’ for best effect. The Chromatic Demon stayed in his Balor form which made our non-fire attacks worthless but we still managed to whittle him down before the buffs wore off… on to the maze next.

@ussnorway, I'm afraid I don't get what you mean by "tag your it"
As to your question whether Kilbin will remain solo, I'm still undecided. He might, and with the Vhailor's Helm simulacrum casting PfMagic once a day on him without wasting the Green Scroll, he actually may get farther than I expected before trying an unmodded Wizard Slayer. However, I've also considered picking up an NPC every once in a while for their quests and maybe a a bit more (e.g. doing the Planar Sphere with Valygar, Unseeing Eye with Keldorn, Temple Ruins with Mazzy). And yet another option, something I've long wanted to do, would be to have Kilbin form an anti-arcane party. A wizard wrecking team with Keldorn, Valygar, Korgan and Kilbin. (Anomen and/or Jaheira, whose Insect spells fit the theme pretty well, could also be candidates.) Going with a party like that would probably the wisest decision in no-reload terms.

Break a leg in Watcher's Keep!

Thanks I'll try to break something just for you.

FYI Tag your it = a running game for kids, you touch (tag) someone then run away and they try to chase after you.

I like the idea of an anti-arcane magic team... don't tell Imoen but I would drop the pally... perhaps Viconia?

Aaaah of course, you mean by the fountain :D Good fun, yes.
Hmm not sure about Vicky. In party runs she's almost always there, but what I have in mind for this playthrough is simply the most brutal team of Mage killers possible. I never use Keldorn (don't like his character really), but . Maybe one of the new NPCs, now that I'm playing EE. Dorn perhaps... Of the female NPCs Mazzy comes to mind (besides Jaheira, another NPC I'm not too fond of)..

Tycho, entering BG2 challenge. First (and final) update :(

1_zps87391e4b.jpg

After dealing with Kalah and adopting Kivan, things were going rather well. Tycho killed a cat - apperantly a bad luck one.

2_zpsfdfcf7d6.jpg

With Kivan's help, CC was cleared from slavers.

3_zps8e166d8e.jpg

Then, Umar Hills. Shade Lord disintegrated Mazzy there.

4_zps1fd1a76e.jpg

He still died. So far, so good. I only need Edwin to ramp up my party.

5_zpsb75b4042.jpg

This is a new spell in Spell Revisions - a substitute for Mantle. Whoever makes a hit on this, get's hit by Prismatic Spray.

6_zps65499a8e.jpg

Needles to say, Tycho goes berserk after getting struck by sequencered Flame Arrows (half of which struck Mazzy, the spell works as a multitarget spell with Spell Revisions)

7_zpsbc27f4c3.jpg

Mantle expired before Tycho slapped Prismatic Mantle. Pure luck. But now Rayic casts Flesh to Stone. Again, this spell is quite changed. It won't kill like in vanilla, but in this instance (no Stone to Flesh scrolls) it would be the same.

8_zpsfb934a2c.jpg

After 3 rounds, Tycho made the save :)

9_zps9af8cfb1.jpg

We adopt Edwin as final party member. He still had his Minor Sequencer memorized before Sarevok finale in BG1

Killed Mae'var, now I had plenty of money to work with.

10_zps9632127a.jpg

Went to Slums to pay Gaelan Bayle 15k. Since we were still buffed (all apart Tycho, who got hit by Mae'var's Remove magic) I decided that before we pay we should kill the slavers. Unfortunately, Tycho got blasted by a multitude of spells and arrows, went berserk, and died near the stairs he never got to climb.

11_zps1977afa4.jpg

I'll be rolling a new character soon. Probably a barbarian.

Sorry to see Tycho's reign of terror end so quickly Aasim.

Salira{2} - human monk (update 1)

I still had some time available this morning after finishing BG1 and Salira took advantage of that to make a start on BG2.

In the dungeon she levelled up to level 9 immediately, getting a welcome 9 HPs to finish 4 above average.  She had no trouble in clearing the dungeon, including a successful stun on Ulvaryl, before setting the circus to rights - getting to level 10 there.

After talking to Gaelan Bayle she installed new management in the Copper Coronet.  Then, travelling in the shadows back to the Promenade, she used DUHM and horror to make a mess of Suna Seni's intended ambush.

With the funds gained to date she made some purchases, including the Sensate Amulet, the RoAC, a protection from poison scroll and the Ring of Energy.

A bit more shadowy travelling around the city saw her rescue Renfeld.  On the way to drop him off at the Docks the orog ambush also triggered - with her inventory already full Salira just ran away there.  She wasted an invisibility potion at the Docks on the mad cleric - he ran away scared and stopped behind the door to the thieves' guild where she couldn't target him.  I didn't bother resting to get horror back as a way of shifting him and when Salira failed to hide when exposing herself to one of his remaining spells she took the potion (though she saved anyway and I realised too late it was a hold person that she could have used Arbane to defend against).

Prebek & Sanasha had no answer to the RoAC and Salira looted Harper HQ before reporting to Xzar.  She attempted to stun Lucette after Xzar's assassination, but failed - however, she still got to level 11 there.
