Coremonk III - D'Arnise Keep, Unseeing Eye and other encounters update
Traveling with: Mazzy, Korgan, Jaheira, Yoshimo, Aerie
Before dealing with D'Arnise Keep, Korgan cleared out the Graveyard tombs using an protection from Undead scroll. It was still active at the end so he tried to solo the Gate District LIch - uh oh, wore off very fast! Korgan ran for his life - in fact the party ran to the graveyard to rest and return. Korgan decided to try to solo that lich using anti-mage buffs - he did in fact succeed, despite the gate and meteor storm that the lich did. For some reason the lich mazed his own pit fiend, so that made it a bit easier for Korgan.
Then the party headed to D'Arnise Keep. There was an ambush on the way there, but call lightning and chaos were a bit too much for the enemies.
D'Arnise Keep itself went very well. Coremonk III, Korgan and Mazzy did great melee damage, it was rare any spells were used. Yoshimo poured out the arrows with his Tuigan's bow. Aerie used a decent sling, while Jaheira most of the time used her boomerange dagger.
Straight auto-attack did most encounters. For the ones that didn't:
* The room with the Yuan-ti Mage, Mazzy pulled the enemies one at a time, with the mage itself being last. The mage itself was soloed by Korgan with many anti-mage buffs. Ironically, his buffs weren't needed, as Korgan's Stonefire managed to interrupt ALL offensive spells.
* Poor Glaicas didn't count on Yoshimo's special snare going off and holding Glaicas - that made short work of him.
* Golems were attacked one at a time. Mazzy used the crimson dart to solo the Iron Golem, with her the other side of a small doorway, so the golem couldn't reach her - this took a while.
* Cloudkill (from wand) managed to kill 3 of the umber hulks. Mazzy, being immune to confusion (SoH) was sure to be seen first, and the other two were mopped up without a problem.
*Torgal and pals should have been easy, but I didn't turn off the AI and then Mazzy got pinned in the doorway and had to gulp 5 heal potions with all the damage she was taking. Jaheira did plague of insects, and Aerie did chaos and that did in fact carry the day.
We finally had enough money to buy the Shield of Balduran, so we headed to the Temple Sewers. The major encounter was Tarnor's gang. This encounter went in several phases.
Phase 1
Two fire elementals/Two Nymphs were summoned (druids are so helpful for BG 2), as well as a resist fear put up. No other buffs were used.
Phase 2
Coremonk III crept up in stealth to see where Aerie can cast spells that hit enemies (area effects) without herself being seen - he points at the right point of ground and retreats. Aerie then creeps up and casts in succession, web, stinking cloud (x2), cloudkill (from wand), great malison, then she retreats.
Phase 3
The first enemy to break out of the disablers was Tarnor (of course, being a dwarf with good saves himself) - the party concentrated fire on him. We were careful to not let our summons walk into the cloudkill. Soon, the other enemies get into the mix. Time for Plague of Insects and Chaos.
Phase 4
The cloudkill dissipates - time for all out attack! Note for safety, Coremonk III used his sling and +2 bullets to keep out of harm's way.

The enemies could not survive and not party deaths/chunkings! Yay for that.
Rest of the sewers were mopped up without further incident, though we did encounter some green slimes - they were killed immediately this time.
Next, we did what we needed to do to unlock the passageway to the sarcophagus - Korgan used a protection from undead scroll. We quickly ran to the other lich in the bridge district, and killed it easily with the scroll still active.
We then proceeded to do the Unseeing Eye Quest. Coremonk III was very helpful against the wights and shadow fiends, using his Daystar sunray abiilty to great effect. The mobs on the way to the Temple of Amauanator wasn't too much trouble, except the Yuan-Ti's were a big pain. Some of the party got confused, and we took a lot of damage, from skull traps I think. We did win, just had to do a lot of heal potions.
Next major encounter the huge number of undead guarding the gauntlets of dexterity. Not surprisingly, Korgan really wanted those gauntlets. So we made him do the work, once again using a protection from undead scroll, with the party out of sight.
Next, we had to deal with the blind priests. Silence (x2) and plague of insects were enough to turn the battle in our favor. Korgan then cleared out the beholders in the lair, but there weren't very many of them.
Time for the "big" battle, the Unseeing Eye itself. Only prep was death ward on Aerie - a well timed breach from the rod made this quick. We reported to the Temple of Amaunator and then had a talk with Gaal. We didn't have very many buffs available, but we still prevailed. The stamina belt went to Aerie - this could help to prevent her chunking, if I can remember to use it.
We then looted the quarters for the followers blind, a few spells Aerie learned. We then reported our success to the Temple of Helm, and they were quite pleased naturally.
I forgot the mention I did the pantaloons quest (even though I don't have the ones from BG 1) - I did this mainly to lower my rep for Korgan. I was careful not to have any party members with me when talking to the noblewoman - Mazzy has thwarted my plans before and this worked.
Our last task of the session was to get another scroll case. When we got to Athkatla it was dark - I was careful to go to the slums and sleep, as not to get a vampire encounter. They've ended a number of my runs now. Thus in daylight we got a scroll case from the merchant in front of Rayic Gethras house. This was almost our last thing, but then we got interrupted.
Pala was poisoned! Didn't want to forget this next session, so we also did Mazzy's quest. I encountered that bug where Pala isn't sleeping, but fortunately having the main character talk to Mazzy gets the quest going. We rested a full day to get Mazzy back and ended the session here.
