I'm fairly certain you don't need the device to kill the Eye, you don't even need to forge it (simply attack Gaal instead of talking to him). SCS might change something about that however.

That was my question indeed Grond0. Note that the Unseeing Eye appeared while Thani had only Amanautor's part of the deivce. She never entered the pit for the other half, so she never assembled the complete device.
The Unseeing Eye was immune to both Thani's FoA and her mundane flail. I suppose it's immune to normal weapons and I may have missed its casting of PfMW.

I have just discovered that in my set-up there are 13 kits plus plain paladin. Some were out of sight during character creation, so I didn't realise they were there.
:(

I had finished the slaver quest, Nalia's quest, and the thieves' quest when I discovered this. However, I would much rather continue with the character that I had in BG1. That kit isn't anywhere near as powerful and also allows me to have ** in long swords which is more appropriate for an elf than having ***** in two-handed swords.

I am therefore going to start again at the beginning. The equaliser will be replaced by a moonblade for role playing purposes.

I have given Illych a +1 axe of poison and 4 sunstone bullets, I think that should make that battle more interesting. The axe is unusable by good characters, so that should stop the game becoming unbalanced. (I nearly always play good characters)

I edited my imported character to have the correct dragonslayer kit and he is now able to equip plate armour. It therefore seems that all the bugs have been ironed out.

SCS "improved Unseeing Eye"? It could be u needed the device forged....

from SCS readme:

The original Unseeing Eye is actually a fairly ineffectual high-level spellcaster. This component shifts it into an Elder Orb (I assume that, just as the Eye grants magical sight to its blind followers, so it grants itself the magical use of its eyestalks even though strictly it's blind; I do assume its central eye is inoperative, though) and makes it virtually immune to damage (Demilich-level immunities) until the Rift device is used. Even once the device is used, the Eye will still put up a reasonable fight.

@Aasim, yep, I'm playing with Improved Unseeing Eye. I guess Thani (with only one half of the rift device) won't be going to the cultists' stronghold, where the UE is probably still hanging around, quite literally. High risk, limited profit...
@Grimwald, glad you've got everything finally sorted.

Diary of Durdin A'Daragon

Somehow I ended up in a dungeon which I later discovered belonged to a certain Irenicus. Imoen managed to release me, and together we killed all enemies there. I was relieved to find my moonblade in the hands of a genie. After helping him, he gave me not only the blade but my old cloak as well. I then joined up with Jaheira and Minsc who helped me carry the loot out.

Once outside Imoen was whisked away by the cowled wizards. I must release her. With the help of Aerie I solved the problem at the circus. She accompanied me to an inn where we spent a few days identifying my possessions and getting back in to good health after getting roughed up by some hooligans in the seven vales. We roughed them up even more. None of them survived the meeting.

Amongst their equipment I found some good armour and two pairs of bracers, one for improving my swordsmanship and the other to improve my archery skills.

I sold some equipment and bought some boots that improve my skill.

I was about to spend the night with a courtesan, but upon discovering that she was a slave, I politely turned down the offer of her companionship.

I then set free some slaves and am now on my way to free some more. I found a potion that raised my charisma from 19 to 20. :)

(It appears that these drops of potions are random. As my character is strong in all areas except Wisdom I will probably save Str Dex and Con potions for other party members. My intention is to get a party of paladins plus one slot for party members needed for a short while for a quest.)

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 59 - (update 2)

May, human necromancer (Grond0) & Blaggerd, human blackguard (Gate70)

Some solid progress today continued to demonstrate the strength of this partnership (or perhaps more accurately the strength of a blackguard paired with anyone B)).

The duo started by running through Aran's tasks.  At vampire HQ Blaggerd donned his helm of charm protection to prevent domination and quickly bashed through the opposition.  Tanova's defences kept him at bay for a few rounds, but she didn't seem to cast much in the way of offensive spells (though it's difficult to tell what's happening because the text in MP misses out much of the action) and finally went down with a whimper.  Bodhi's defences were less robust and she had had enough after no more than a round of action.

After upgrading the MoD the temple quests were completed before travelling to Trademeet.  The genies there didn't last long against Blaggerd's poisonous assault (spirit armour ensured he was safe against petrification attempts).  He also led the way through the Druid Grove, though May helped out with the odd spells - such as a stinking cloud / cloudkill combination on Kyland Lind.  She also threw in a skull trap at the end to make sure no-one ran away - Blaggerd doesn't seem to object to the odd one of those bursting round his ears (despite the fact that May has not yet quite got round to putting protection from magic energy on him).

After watching Cernd tuck in to Faldorn the duo returned to Trademeet to help Tiris and clear the tomb.  Then they moved on to the de'Arnise Hold for their final action of the session.  That proved nice and easy with Blaggerd never looking in trouble, though May threw in a cloudkill against the final pair of giant trolls just to keep her hand in.  They'll be off to Windspear Hills next time.

Stats:

May, necromancer 14, 59 HPs (incl. 6 from familiar, 5 from ioun stone), 198 kills

Blaggerd, blackguard 13, 125 HPs (incl. 5 from helm), 291 kills, 0 deaths (1 in BG1)

Thani bought Aeger's Hide armor at the Adventurer Mart, traveled to Trademeet and cleared the Druid Grove area with little difficulty. Trolls (even the Spirit variant) and Spiders had long ceased to be a threat to her, and Shambling Mounds and Greater Earth Elementals fell without even landing any hits at her, in spite of her average AC (between -4 and -7 depending on equipment used). She did decide to rest a couple of times, especially after having been strength drained by Spirit Trolls. I don't know how those drains take to wear off but in my experience it's very long.
Thani also used her rests to recharge her shield's once/day Spell Turning ability. Thus she dealt with hostile Druids. Some of them summoned insects that were promptly sent back to the casters thanks to Spell Turning.
She let Trolls kill a group of Humans, and dispatched the Trolls after that. Spore Colonies and Myconids were manageable after Aeger's Hide (with its Confusion immunity) was donned.
Ihtafeer and company gave Thani, all buffed up with Spell Turning, MI and DUHM, a scare when the Dwarf got stuck in their Web, but leaving the shed and reentering made the Web and Stinking Cloud disappear, allowing Thani to pound the rakshasa to death.
Level 13 Cernd, in Werewolf form, bested Faldorn in the Druid death duel, in spite of panicking once under the effect of an Insect Plague and getting Confused by Faldorn.
Thani was generously rewarded, and particularly pleased with the Shield of Harmony (even though she already owned the Helm of Charm Protection and Aeger's Hide). She returned to Athkatla to take care of the remainder of the Vampire stronghold. Knowing that I had somehow neglected to install SCS Improved Vampires, I wasn't really worried for Thani, and with good reason, it turned out.
The Helm of Charm Protection, the Mace of Disrpution +2 and buffs like Spell Turning, Mirror Image and DUHM enabled her to make short work of the Vampires downstairs, of Lassal in the spiky chamber (I discovered that keeping to the wall will keep one safe from the traps), and of guild mistress Bodhi herself. In the Bodhi fight Thani used her Hardiness HLA, but she didn't even need a (Greater) Whirwind Attack to deal with her foe.
I'm curious how Thani would have fared against the SCS Improved Vampires, but honestly I think that even with her buffs she would have stood a very good chance. The fights would have taken longer, and there would have been the risk of getting stuck, surrounded by bats for example, but with Hardiness and DoE, a WW and a GWW, her Helmet and Mace, plus buffs like DUHM, MI and Spell Turning she would be difficult to kill and pretty deadly herself. Either way, as I said earlier I only tinker with mods before starting a new game, not with a game already in progress.

There are two major quests left that Thani might do, Planar Sphere and Astral Prison, but both are quite hard, so she might just leave those for later.
Thani has almost no summons. She'll buy Ras and she has Vhailor's Helm but that's it really. In the Planar Sphere there's a Staff of Fire +2, which allows the wielder to summon a Fire Elemental (and to cast Fireshield Red). The Astral Prison is interesting for the Boots of Speed. Nevertheless both quests are very difficult. This is something I'll have to think about. Tips and insights are welcome.

In my experience I see SCS Improved Vampires as quite annoying creatures to solo them with fighter character. When Impish Face fought a coven in Windspear Hills under PfU scroll (he has not any items with level drain protection at the moment due to Randomizer)  they just went invisible at will and that's it. Single cast of True Sight/Seeing (1 Turn duration) is not enough to deal with them all due to their regeneration/bat shapechange. You might be protected vs level drain via Mace of Disruption but nothing protect you from Drink Blood (Constitution drain). All in all they are manageable but at the moment I found them as the least enjoyable component of brilliant SCS mod.

Baruk - dwarf kensai (update 1)

After running Baruk through BG1 this morning, there was still a bit of time before breakfast to make a start on BG2.

He proceeded through the dungeon without problems and then restored the circus - getting to level 10 as a result.

As with all my characters Baruk will not use any healing potions / antidotes or any other form of item-based active healing (passive healing and regeneration is allowed).

Hey Serg, yes you're right CON drain and invisibility would be extremely annoying. Maybe it's a good thing for Thani not having that mod mod component installed...

Baruk - dwarf kensai (2nd and final update)

Baruk made good initial progress in that session before another comedy of errors ended his run.
- at the Copper Coronet Hendak needed no help to sort out Lehtinan - Baruk bought Stonefire and Azuredge.
- he did the ambushes and cleared the graveyard - using a PfU scroll for the tombs.  Some spiders down below got him to level 11 before he used the RoAC for the first time to protect against potential revenge by Pai'Na's pets.
- went to Watcher's Keep to get the potion case and cleared the top level.  Set the statues up in a shooting gallery - finishing them was then easy once the archer was dead (level 12).
- returned Renfeld and used the RoAC to deal with Prebek & Sanasha.
- sorted out the kidnappers and let Lady Elgea go.

Baruk was in the middle of trampling down the Fallen Paladins by running them round with Azuredge when the dialogue with Carbos and Shank triggered.  I was slow to realise that the dialogue had not paused the action and by the time I had frantically hammered away at the space bar to regain control Baruk had been taken right down to 3 HPs.  This screenshot shows the action text clearly got a bit confused by the failure to pause during dialogue - with the to hit rolls all showing at the end of the dialogue, but without the actual damage he was suffering being shown.
Bubbles_zpse3515b59.jpg

Things then seemed back under control, with both pursuers at near death, when Baruk came round that way again and further dialogue triggered.  I was expecting that this time and thought Baruk had enough of a lead that it wouldn't be a problem.  Unfortunately, however, the dialogue triggered just as I was being urgently called in real life.  The distraction meant I didn't get back to the computer before Baruk lost his lead and he was then unable to finish the conversation before being finished off himself ...

Sorry Grond0, RL interruptions can be fatal, as Baruk's lot shows... Good luck with your next attempt.

Thani entered the Planar Sphere. She took the Halflings on in small groups of no more than two at a time, and she used her shield's Spell Turning ability to protect herself against the Mages whilst disabling them with her spellfailure penalty upon (both ranged and melee) hit.
A number of Golems were next,
and then she faced Lavok. Thani applied her usual buffs (Spell Turning, MI, DUHM), sent in Ras the dancing sword, and GWW'd for 9 ranged APR. When she laid eyes on the Necromancer, she started pelting him with Acid Arrows to impose the spellfailure penalty asap. This worked.
The Demons were ridiculously easy; it had me wonder whether there was some kind of bug in Thani's favor at work here. I'm used to SCS v21 and "aTweaked demons" that give me hell, but even Lea'liyil, the strongest of the three, went down in a couple of hits. I checked in EEKeeper and it says there that Lea has 40 base Hit Points (excluding CON bonuses). That means that everything seems to have worked as intended. I'm playing SCS Improved Demons, as in smarter, but without their HP increase; will probably change that before my next playthrough.
The biggest challenge of the Planar Sphere was Tolgerias. GWW'd Thani started off nicely, getting four hits in with her Tuigan Bow and Acid Arrows, two before and two after the dialog triggered.
Nevertheless, as soon as he had auto-buffed, Tolgerias seemingly managed to cast all the spells he wanted. This mainly meant lots of summons: two Cornugons, an Efreeti, a Mordy Sword, and two  Mislead or Project Image versions of himself. Before those summons would make things difficult for Thani, she managed to slay Tolgerias' assistant, who was closer to the door.
She then left the room, which I think counts as an area transition: the summons didn't follow her. Blackraven went to the bathroom, and as he got back he saw how Tolgerias' summons were all gone when Thani returned to check on Tolgerias.
That left only Thani and Tolgerias. The Dwarf summoned forth her Siumlacrum, using Vhailor's Helm, and sent it in first. Tolgerias worried her when he pulled a Time Stop out of his sleeve. His first target was likely to be the Simulacrum, but the real Thani was in visual range as well. Thankfully he spent most of his time buffing himself. At the end Tolgerias cast a ADHW at the Simmy, which it gloriously survived thanks to its Magic Resistance.
Tolgerias didn't fret though. He immediately proceeded to gravely injure Thani with a triggered Flame Arrow, causing the Dwarf to quaff her only potion of superior healing. However, with both Thani and the Simmy still standing, things were looking good for her. The two attacked the wizard with their FoAs and hit him until he fell. I can't say iy enough: what an outstanding weapon that is...
After this wonderful fight, the remainder of the dungeon was relatively easy. The Ice Room most of all. The Golems in the power core could do little against her GWWs. The Fire Room was slightly harder, as Thani suffered quite a lot of fire damage from different sources (Mephits, Efreeti, Salamanders).
The Noble Efreeti was difficult to kill, as it would take a gaseous form whenever it panicked and was near death. A critical did it in though.
As I said before, Thani won't do the Astral Prison (at least not before traveling to Spellhold). She might take a look at Watcher's Keep, at least the first level, and then go after Imoen/Irenicus.
I'm thinking of keepering in a Bag of Holding because the number of items she wants to have at hand is getting out of hand.

Lilah, neutral evil half-elven mage/thief, update 1

This is Lilah after her recent adventures in BG1 (which you can read about in the BG1 thread). Though she's neutral evil, I'm going to play with her as if she were good - I only created her with this alignment because I wanted to do an evil BG1 playthrough for the first time (just because I have never done that despite playing the game for many, many years), and since I've recently done an evil BG2 playthrough, I am not interested in doing that again.

I am playing on core rules and using BGT.

Lilah fought her way out of the dungeon and quickly assembled her party: Jaheira, Minsc, Anomen, Keldorn and Valygar. Many fighters, leaving Lilah as the only mage and the only thief. For her first quests, she completed the non-violent ones in Umar Hills, did Keldorn's personal quest, helped the temple with Sir Sarles and Borinall and completed the circus tent (where I realised that having an evil PC can be a problem if I use Anomen's holy smite). The group also fought Suna Seni (no problem thanks to Bhaal horror) and Mencar's gang (easy with some preparation and forest beings). Oh, and Lilah also stole daystar and bought a magic license.

I won't have time to play for a couple of days, but I plan to do the copper coronet next.

Baruk {2} - dwarf kensai (update 1)

After completing his work in BG1 this second attempt with Baruk (meaning 'axes' in dwarvish) has made an initial start in BG2.  He cleared the dungeon without any real trouble - he was sent down for a count by a radiant mephit in the portal room, but the other portals were already destroyed by then and the radiant mephit on its own couldn't make much of an impression on him.  He went on to restore the circus and is ready to go and talk to Gaelan Bayle next time.

As always he's not allowed healing potions (or other item-based active healing) or antidotes.

He's just got up to level 10 and is just a few HPs below average, so rather better off than his predecessor.
RecordL10_zps2b5f3d29.jpg

I think I might have been getting a few pitying glances for my recent attempts, so we'll see if Baruk can show an improvement ... :P

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 59 - (update 3)

May, human necromancer (Grond0) & Blaggerd, human blackguard (Gate70)

More progress today, but this time with a few worrying moments ...

The duo started off in Windspear Hills and faced their first challenge when Garren's cabin proved not to have an exit in.  The console came to the rescue and Blaggerd went to return the acorns before moving on into the dungeon.  Most of that was straightforward enough with Samia's crew struggling to shake off the effects of various area spells while under poisonous assault.  Blaggerd tried his sewer cloak out against some golems - the rat form proving to hold damage down enough for the Ring of Gaxx to keep him going.

The first hiccup was against Conster who ignored the invisible stalker and Blaggerd attacking him and shook off the effects of a cloudkill to launch a finger of death spell at May - fortunately she saved.  Firkraag was also not straightforward.  He shook off an initial poison assault and ignored the mordy swords attacking him in favour of chasing the duo.  Not being up to melee they ran away upstairs, where Blaggerd healed with potions before coming in again for a decisive poisonous attack.

Back in Athkatla the dragon scale armour was forged before heading for the temple sewers.  Tarnor's men were assaulted with various area effect spells, though Blaggerd had a bit of a shock when he got caught in the web (May had forgotten to put spirit armour on him).  Fortunately the enemies all died before they could take advantage of that.

There was another glitch fighting the illithid when May ran out of MMM and auto-moved into an attacking position before I could react.  As a result he was targeted by a psionic attack and stunned - fortunately the illithid didn't attack in him preference to Blaggerd or a mordy sword though and he survived.  I noted in that encounter that his Otiluke's Sphere contingency didn't work; resetting it for the final illithid room and testing it out under somewhat more controlled conditions confirmed that a saving throw is applied even when casting that spell on yourself in BGEE - making it a far less useful spell.

Mekrath was poisoned before he could buff and his yuan-ti coughed in a cloud.  Haer'Dalis was recruited by accident, but took no part in any fighting on the way to the Planar Prison.  There was another potential problem at the start of that when May was sent to sleep by a Pixie ****** stab - his contingency was supposed to generate a dispel magic this time, but there was no sign that had actually been cast.  However, he'd got a skull trap out before that and the remaining enemies were finished off by Blaggerd well before May's stoneskin ran out.  Working round to the Master of Thralls some summons helped take him out before moving on to the Warden.  A combination of poison and skull traps took him down very quickly and allowed the duo to escape the prison.  They've just arrived at Umar Hills ready for their next challenge.

Stats:

May, necromancer 15, 60 HPs (incl. 6 from familiar, 5 from ioun stone), 277 kills

Blaggerd, blackguard 14, 128 HPs (incl. 5 from helm), 424 kills, 0 deaths (1 in BG1)

Baruk {2} - dwarf kensai (update 2)

Baruk was fairly aggressive in this morning's session, but only had one really bad moment.

After sorting out the Copper Coronet he went on to the Graveyard to collect some headgear from Pai'Na.  He then used a scroll to clear the Southern tombs (level 11), although I was nearly caught out there by the vampyre.  It couldn't be found initially (must have disappeared into a crack in the wall), but Baruk rested while in the area to heal trap damage and the vampyre surfaced again when Baruk was on his way out.  With no time to trigger the RoAC domination could have ended his run, but he got away with it this time

On the way back to the Promenade he horrified the Suna Seni ambush, though he unfortunately had to leave most of their loot as his inventory was already full.  To free a bit of inventory space he rescued Lady Elgea and then went to Watcher's Keep to get the potion case.  There were some vampiric wraiths on guard there, so he didn't stay to clear the top floor.

Back in Athkatla, Baruk paid up for a magic license while going to call on Sir Sarles.  Shortly after that he was finally given the chance to rescue Renfeld and quickly returned him and looted the harpers.

Solving the skinner quest got Baruk to level 12, which gave him the strength to break into Neb's house and slice & dice him.  After finishing with Sir Sarles Baruk tracked down a relic of Lathander before taking on the Fallen Paladins - this time there was no interruption from Bubbles to save them.

He dealt with the liches (level 13) to get the ring of Gaxx and improved his charisma with the Rod of Terror on some kobolds.  He then sorted out their rakshasa master and burnt a troll for Roger. With regeneration now available he returned to deal with the Rune Assassins at skinner HQ and then took revenge on Captain Dennis for another of my recent casualties.

Back in the sewers Tarnor's gang were picked off one by one (Namarra successfully silencing both clerics) before taking out Gaius under cover of the RoAC.  After a rest the same thing was done to Mekrath, although his buffs kept him going rather longer and he managed to cast a lightning bolt on Baruk just before he died.  There were a number of umber hulk guards on duty and Baruk used the Horn of Kazgaroth for the first time to get his saving throw into safe territory against them (level 14).

With lots of cash available Baruk bought the pick of Roger's potions before seeking out the Planar Prison.  He made a successful entrance there - Kitthix providing a useful distraction for the Bounty Hunter mage before turning traitor.  A couple of rests saw him working his way past the Master of Thralls without particular problems.  His initial assault on the Warden under cover of the attacking thralls failed and he had to withdraw and use an invulnerability potion to protect against umber hulk confusions - he was also hit hard by a wilting there.  Running and throwing Azuredge dealt with the chasing umber hulks and he then used the sewer cloak troll to speed up his regeneration before coming back for the warden.  Three attempted silences failed, but Baruk attacked anyway and almost got a clean kill, but the warden's chain contingency triggered just in time to save him.  Baruk retreated again to wait out a shadow door before coming back in to finally finish the job.  Releasing the prisoners got him to level 15.

Russell VII the solo undead hunter - Entering Trilogy no-reload challenge

So Russell VII has obtained his basic equipment (stonefire, frostweaver, flail of ages, shield of harmony) and is now level 11. He used an invulnerability potion and RoAC to survive Watcher Keep traps to get the ammo belt.

His only tough spots so far have been D'Arnise Keep. I realized I had to trip the lightning bolt trap guarding Glaicas, but had zero lightning resistance! Russell VII tripped it and ran around, getting to near death, but he did DUHM for a bit extra HP. He survived.

Baldr251_zpscb3c4814.png

But wait, Glaicas is hitting extremely hard and Russell had to use like 4 extra healing potions, and even run and heal too. But Russell VII did in fact win the fight.

Russell buffed to the max and Torgal falls. Russell VII used the genie lamp scorcher to whittle down the mass of spiders guarding Pa'naii to get her Kithix.

Grond0, I like the fact that in your mod set-up you can still raise Charisma with Rod of Terror. In mine the programming has been changed so it doesn't work any more. :( If I am going ton do that, I have to do it in BG1.

Not a problem though as there are potions being dropped which increase stats. Charisma already 21 without the use of items. :)

Indeed.  It seems only right to me that a character on the verge of god-hood could suddenly find that ordinary mortals were much more attracted to them.

SCS changed it so the rod no longer works, which I think is a shame.

SCS hasn't changed it. It's changed with ToBEx as a "core" fix. If you still want it back, there's an option in tobex.ini file -

Charisma Mod Fix=1  change to Charisma Mod Fix=0
