SCS hasn't changed it. It's changed with ToBEx as a "core" fix. If you still want it back, there's an option in tobex.ini file -

Charisma Mod Fix=1  change to Charisma Mod Fix=0

Thanks for the info Aasim and best of luck to Hogar for his rampage through BG2 ...

Tnx everyone for good wishes! I do hope to get to ToB (at least) but it's a long way.

Hogar & the gang, 1st BG2 update

Ok - introductions first. This is Hogar after BG1.

1_zps253eb75e.jpg

Gisthan

2_zpsef4a1a75.jpg

Asya

3_zpse91582ec.jpg

Sineth

4_zpsfe8ef5c0.jpg

First things first - Circus (no trouble there) and aquiring Tugian.

5_zps7d3b5b9e.jpg

Then Goverment - City gates - Umar Hills to avoid Suna ambush for now. Sineth got his level 9 as a mage, and Chaos does wonders early on.

6_zpseb413645.jpg

7_zps1a5ae041.jpg

Finished Harper's quests.

8_zpsd5bc83d7.jpg

Adn Sorcerous Amon and his gang. Asya opened with Ice Storm followed by a Skull Trap, while Sineth threw Chaos. Mayham is ensured, both Pooky and Amon die to icy boulders.

9_zpsf779eed4.jpg

We mop up what's left of them and visit WK. Farsight is needed here, since Hogar doesn't yet wield a +2 weapon. Best to avoid opening the door, it seems...(the pink figures there are Vampiric Wraiths)

10_zps49497d91.jpg

Never the less, we go around, kill some "normal" Wraiths, pick up the loot and leave.

11_zps58b91ddb.jpg

Since I want to avoid stealing from Lathander temple for thieves, some reputation gain was in order. Slavers were next. We enter through the sewers (Lirarcor aquired) and attack. Asya gets blasted by a Fire spell (level 5 clerical, forgot it's name), takes heavy damage, but is alive. She starts whipping out Deafening Blasts, killing the slavers.

12_zps389bed15.jpg

Haegan wanted to hide, but was found in the sewers.

13_zpse3865c4d.jpg

With IR, he wields this - Hogar gets it until Flail of Ages is forged (shouldn't be long).

14_zpsf72daba6.jpg

Disarmed the traps, lost the golem, Asya's Remove magic proved to be the death of a mage,

15_zps4cceba52.jpg

16_zpsc12cfd0f.jpg

...Hogar got charmed, but we won. Rep is gained, and Mae'var happily sends us to steal from Talos.

17_zps38987160.jpg

Naturally, we don't bother with Edwin's nonsense but kill him and take the key. Mae'var was struck by Chaos (he did save)

18_zps4e066683.jpg

...but illusions don't last long against my little gnome. 2x Secret Word + Breach gets rid of his elemental protections and his contingencied stoneskin kicks in.

19_zps274c1c3c.jpg

Stoneskin or not, Lightning Bolt did him. We sell a lot of loot, pay off Shadow Thieves 15k gold, buy Mace of Disruption (IR makes this mace a buyable item), and are probably gonna kill off Falled Paladins next.

@Aasim: I'm curious of few things:

1. How did you get 21 Con for Hogan (and 20 on level 1 upon generation) and 21 Int for Sineth (with 19 initial)?

2. Why with ~TOBEX/TOBEX.TP2~ #0 #105 // No Spell Interruption On Zero Damage: Beta 0025 Mae'Var was still disrupted by Secret Words?

1. ~VIC.TP2~ #0 #0 // Victor's Improved Races: v2.0

This makes races more a la PnP stat-wise. It's a very old mod (you can find it at Blackwyrm lair, but the other components aren't really good). In essence - dwarves are limited to 16 dex/charisma, but can start with 20 con, halflings are limited to 16 strenght but can start with 20 dex.

2. Mae'var wasn't disrupted. "one of the spells has failed" message is displayed since Secret Word was cast out of Fireshield feedback damage range. With SR, Fireshields (and a number of other spells) are no longer removed by Breach, so I took a more defensive approach and didn't attack in melee, only with Lightning/Acid/Chromatic orbs (Shield spell is also not Breach-affected, so Magic Missile isn't as powerful against mages).

Baruk {2} - dwarf kensai (update 3)

A generally straightforward session this morning saw Baruk into HLA territory.

He started the session by running through Mae'Var's tasks.  He used the Horn a couple of times there - first to protect against mephit abilities and then to ensure his saving throw was good enough to protect against chaos or a symbol (in fact Rayic had used his initial buffs against Kitthix and the air elemental and Gaxx haste took him down before he could react).  Mae'Var himself failed to put up a struggle (after being both scared and webbed), but did promote Baruk to level 16.

Next he paid Gaelan Bayle and then did Aran's tasks - his standard saving throw was now sufficient to not worry about domination and the boots of speed made running and throwing Azuredge against vampires easy.  He sneaked up on Tanova and used a sunray on her while she was casting true sight (level 17).  Bodhi killed the elemental, but Baruk's 9 APR using Kundane and Gaxx haste was too much for her.

After upgrading the MoD Baruk sought out the Unseeing Eye.  His saving throws meant that taking on beholders one or two at a time was now simple and the group by the bridge got him to level 18.  Descending into the pit, a sunray thinned out the lich's troops a bit before Baruk backed off and used Azuredge to finish off.  Inside the hive he used horror to split up the big group of beholders (level 19) - and again on the blind priests.  The rod quickly opened up the Eye's defences before Baruk hurried off to return it to the temple before any mishaps could occur ;).

After ensuring that Gaal would stir up no more trouble Baruk reported in to Oisig, getting his first HLA at level 20 as a result.  He celebrated by using one of his two protection from magic scrolls to go and clear out the Twisted Rune.  While the scroll was active he also picked up the berserker horn and went to attack the Guarded Compound.  He had a setback there though when he just failed to kill Ketta before she could go invisible and suffered a backstab as a result - fortunately I had remembered to equip a melee weapon in anticipation of that as the backstab would have killed him if he'd had Azuredge still equipped.  That made him go invisible himself to regenerate in troll form before using hardiness for the first time and taking his revenge.  Sion's buffs kept him alive long enough for Baruk's scroll to run out, but he just retreated to regenerate to avoid any potential danger.  Just before he regained full health I thought he might as well try a horror and surprisingly that made Sion run - Azuredge then soon finished him off.

With Athkatla pretty much cleaned out for the moment Baruk returned to Watcher's Keep, where the iMod was too much for the vampiric wraiths (even non-proficient).  Baruk quickly finished off the rest of the top level (with well over 100k in the bank and nothing much to buy he didn't bother looting much though).  That took him to level 21.

Hogar & the gang, 2nd BG2 update

This (fairly long) session wrapped up much of Athkatla's minor quests (Ilithium, Dawn ring, Fallen Paladins) and some more. Firstly we decided to help out Nalia. My no-NPC politics cost us 10K gold which she refused to pay; she only gives 650 - if that was the only reward you get for killing Torgal, this quest probably wouldn't have been worth the effort. Nvm - first we had a fairly close call against the Yuan-ti mage there. Two Cone of Cold castings, and a lot of potions used.

21_zpsfb902ec7.jpg

After dispelling his illusions (he went invisible 3!!! times....) he was easy pray.

22_zpsef00a97e.jpg

The other notable battle was Torgal. Asya opened up with two Ice Storms

23_zps0e960b00.jpg

Then retreated back and placed two Skull traps.

24_zpsf4561a18.jpg

This pretty much destroyed the minor troops, apart Torgal and mages.

25_zps43d05245.jpg

Asya cast another Ice Strom, which should take care of Yuan-ti's Turnings. Unfortunately, she got into the AoE of Teleport Field, and got teleported in the midst of the enemy troops and her own Ice Storms!

26_zpsd27f98fd.jpg

She didn't survive, but neither did the Yuan-ti mages.

27_zps482769ca.jpg

Left alone, Torgal was easy pray, being able to hit only on a critical.

28_zpse0cefe7c.jpg

Then, WK again. Now we had enough spell slots/items to deal with Vampiric Wraiths and whatever waited us in the 2nd level.

29_zps4302fabe.jpg

After releasing the Demon, we ran outside - he's beyond the current power level of this party.

30_zps9fddaa51.jpg

Returning to Alkathla - forged some items, got level drained by Lassal (SCS Vamps are incredibly annoying with shapeshfit-bat, drain, shapshift-wolf, run, shapeshift-rat, be unhittable etc. meh.) but all was well in the end.

31_zpscd4d4b28.jpg

Before tackling the main vampire lair, we decided to attack Shade Lord. Being there, Thaxy seemed like a real test of our mettle. With no Lower Resistance spells, it was a long and tedious battle against this invisibility-spamming beast. I abused the fact that he would always fire off his Remove magic on the first target he sees by making sure he's target Asya who's buffed to be immune to it. After that, fully buffed, we tackled and tackled. Mostly only crits would work, and some of the spells did manage to go through his MR.

32_zpsfa6f6e57.jpg

After about 6-7 turns (!!) he died.

33_zps4fa882cb.jpg

Shade was fought buffed to the max. 1st round - Secret Word (Asya) + Golem summon; 2nd round Breach, 3rd round whack through images, 4th round this.

34_zps8c9d960d.jpg

We cleared out the remaining shadows and sun was shining again.

@Aasim: Nice work against SCS Thaxxy. My plain fighter, Noywad III defeated Thaxxy solo using nothing more than 3 puny magic missile wands. Thaxxy wasn't sCS though...He had IMOD equipped (to prevent level drain) and SoH to prevent confusion. But since he had a melee weapon equipped and he wanted to stay out of melee (this was during chapter two), he used the MM wands to do the killing - took like 30 minutes real time lol. Here's the link.

Is that something that has to be changed before installation or would making that change after installation work?

think  you may disable it whenever you want, same as any other ToBex feature; given that Tobex is a "seperate program" putting code in bgmain.exe file.

Hogar, final BG2 update :(

We decided to deal with Graveyard undead infestation and ramp up things with Bodhi. All was going fairly well - Tanova slain

36_zps048b897c.jpg

..Bodhi avoided by running in circles.

37_zpsb24b6eef.jpg

However, we got into a really nasty ambush of 2 fighters, a thief, and 2 clerics. Asya got hit by Greater Command (or sleep) and we couldn't run away. Hogar got confused, but my gnome removed that from him....bad thing was - Hogar got held in the next round.

38_zps57c10592.jpg

Summoned Ogres kill my confused sorceress - we loose AoE damage. I was surprised Ogre didn't chunk her...

39_zpsf8b85f79.jpg

Then, barbarian rushes in to help. He gets held as well! Both clerics start chanting Necro spells. One is summon skeletons, the other is Slay Living - Hogar is the target, and he lives no more.

@Aasim: ouch, bad news... :(  In my current run I try to hit the ambushers with Greater Command myself immediately - usually it work great even with full pre-buffs due to fast casting. This (+Chaos and Pixie Dust as a backup) saved my hide several times already.

I any case, looking forward to see your next Motley Crew or whatever you are planning.

GC is great, but given Hogar is multiclassed and has  but 3 level 5 spells (2 of which are Chaotic Commands), there's no room for it. I should have buffed before leaving cemetary rather than relying on escape- ambush is sure to happen when you leave it for the 1st time.

I'm downloading portraits and resizing them, hence a goody-goody paladin troupe will be next. I'm not really in the mood for going through BG1 again, so it's likely to be a pretty fast run...

Aasim, thanks for your awesome run!, too bad it didnt last, but thats NR for ya. A question: how DID you assemble your crew? It isnt minmaxed at all, I mean a halfling barbarian, lol? I love the stats and portraits. I just couldnt imagine playing such an incredibly ugly pc tho :)

Sorry Aasim about that ambush... There wasn't much you could have done I suppose. Sometimes casting invisibility on a held charname works, but many of those SCS casters have True Seeing/Sight or Oracle.

It requires high level (or a scroll perhaps), but if you have it, perhaps Aasim could have have mazed the PC to keep him out of harm's way...

@Corey

I'm being fairly realistic here - all paladins on my game setup is not really an option. I doubt I could even get through BG1 without a thief (electricity traps would kill everyone probably - potions don't grant 100% resist to it). 3 paladins is all I mustered.

Nah, I didn't have Maze scroll. On my install, it costs 6 times the price of full plate.

@EA1

Well, with IR heavy armors reduce dexterity, hence only if one wants to use leathers high-dex build is viable (rangers, thieves, barabrians).

2nd, I don't want to waste much time on re-rolling stats.

Believe it or not, Hogar had a very power-gamingish party - if he gained just one more clerical level (11) and was able to cast Physical Mirror, he would be able to tank through pretty much anything in melee (the spell is hugely buffed with SR). Halfling barbarian - halfling is the single best race one can play. Strenght is limiting until you find some equipment, but I mostly used Strenght spell. High dex allowed for super-AC (KR barbarian gains AC when Rages), fast attacks, fast movement and physical resistance to boot. If he had gained HLA's - he'd be able to obtain around 70% physical damage reduction.

Mage/thief is uber class (shapshift Iron golem - Mislead - backstab and similar insane combos)

Sorcerer with 18 wisdom is probably the most imbalanced party member I ever had :P

P.S.

Getting a nice portrait for a halfling barbarian is very difficult. :)

@everyone: I've updated the topic post for this thread. There were a number of situations that we had a consensus  on what should be done, but wasn't actually explicitly mentioned in topic post - this has been rectified. A good example (which happened just recently) was if a no-reloader forgets to save, what are they allowed to do. There were some formatting/typos too, and they have been fixed as well.

You don't need thief to get through BG 1 (or BG 2, for that matter). You do however, need to know where traps are (meta-gaming) and especially if they are game-enders or just a basic damage trap.

My basic process for all groups of mine that have no thieves, is if I must trip a electricity trap OR fight a mage that likes to throw lightning bolts in tight quarters (Heirashan/Landarin/Natasha good examples of the latter), they those traps/mages or dealt with using a SINGLE buffed up character, with the rest of the party far away. With boots of grounding (Mulahey), plus potion of insulation or green electricity protection scroll, you can get them to 100% and trip them safely. Potion of absorption is 100% resistance as well. Green scroll of magic protection could also be used.

Kit Revisions barbarian has Cleave - whenever he kills someone, he gains an extra apr for the following round.

Why not 4 skeletons? They're not "big ones".

Hard luck Aasim. :(

I see. The problem I'm having with this approach is I don't know the exact locations of traps in BG1 maze before Sarevok  :(

given the tight corridors - one bad step (isn't one of them "repeating" trap?) and it's over. I may give it a shot tho.

BG2 traps I have no fear of - I know BG2 much better.

Absorption potions don't give any electrical bonus for me. I could use Insulation+Boots (that would give 100%) and scrolls (100% again).

Damn. Now you have me rethinking my strategies! :P

As for mages - lightning bolt they cast doesn't bounce around with Spell Revisions (it's single target), it just fries whoever is hit by it :) .
