Looking good Corey. :)

Just deleted a post here that should have been  in the BG1 section. Must have been tired through staying up too late on New Year's Eve.

Corarcher's team has just cleared out D'Arnise Keep - no trouble for our group.  We've also found the evidence on Maevar and will deal with him permanently next session. We've also paid off Galen Bayle.

Thrain - dwarf kensai (update 1)

After passing through BG1 Thrain has started the longer arm of his journeys.  He passed through the dungeon with just one slight hiccup - in the portal room I didn't bother with horror against the radiant mephit after the other portals were destroyed and Thrain was rendered unconscious twice.  However, the radiant mephit doesn't do much damage on its own and he still had plenty of HPs left after saving against a 3rd color spray.

The circus was then cleared without trouble, as was the Copper Coronet, and Thrain bought Stonefire and Azuredge.

Fight of the day - Beastmaster
Thrain killed the gibberlings before using the reach of a staff to poke a bear through the bars of its cage.  He showed himself briefly to the Beastmaster to annoy the other inhabitants before pulling out the minotaur alone for easy disposal with fast weapon speed.  Tabitha was persuaded to follow him round a corner before he turned on the Beastmaster himself then finished off the last of the animals.

Thrain - dwarf kensai (update 2)

Thrain has made some more safe early progress.

On the way to Watcher's Keep, to get the potion case, Thrain overcame Suna Seni and her comrades.  The Renfeld and orog ambushes were also negotiated without difficulty before he used a PfU scroll to get Daystar from the City Gates lich (he also cleared the Graveyard tombs while the scroll was active, wrapping charisma round to 25 in the process).

Renfeld survived his travels, unlike Prebek & Sanasha (or, indeed, Xzar).  Thrain then did the remainder of the Graveyard tasks, getting Kitthix and a ioun stone in the process, before claiming a ransom.  He recovered the lost reputation from that by talking to the guard at the circus and solving the skinner murders.

The final action of the session was going to the Temple sewers and helping Roger, claiming a new(ish) cloak from a rakshasa and opening up access to the lich there - ready to get the Ring of Gaxx next time.

Fight of the day - skinner house
Thrain went down to the bottom floor invisible and waited until the first Rune Assassin disappeared and started its attack.  He then immediately went upstairs and waited for the backstab.  Kitthix was waiting there and held the assassin with its first web.  Thrain healed slightly then went invisible again to go back downstairs.  While waiting for the Rune Assassin to attack he triggered Arbane haste before going upstairs again.  This time Kitthix was waiting to absorb the backstab - I didn't expect that to kill it, but a critical did the job and left Thrain to fight alone.

A stand-up fight in that situation would have been a potential problem given that he was already somewhat injured.  Thus he used the remainder of his haste to get outside where running around is much more controllable.  That allowed him to swap attacks on about a 1:1 ratio while running around the area, despite the assassin's haste - and Thrain's much greater damage output meant he was always going to win that type of battle without needing to resort to a potion of speed.  The ghasts and bone golem were also dragged out of the house and run round while he threw Azuredge (I just needed to remember not to go near Carbos and Shank as their fight pauses the PC's action, but not that of opponents).

Bg2 run update 2S1.17,

Hear text as mp3,

Freedom fighting – part 1; by Sarah,

I asked around about sending home the knights of some sort (cost me 9000g) then purchased a new hat for Mazzy and recharged one of my wands. We returned to the slums determined to end these slavers… starting with the beast-master.

2s-baldr097.jpg2s-baldr098.jpg2s-baldr099.jpg2s-baldr100.jpg

Puk dropped a 'Firestorm' and I fired my wand into the beast-masters hiding spot then Jan finished him off with a (wand) 'Lightning bolt'… stay tuned.

Thrain - dwarf kensai (update 3)

As trailed in the previous report Thrain started things off by recovering the Ring of Gaxx.

The next stop was the de'Arnise Hold which he cruised through without resting, acquiring the Amulet of Shielding and FoA in the process (didn't bother picking up most treasure there though).  His basic spell saving throw was still only 0 so he used the Horn of Kazgaroth for the first time (also second, third, fourth and fifth) to stay safe against umber hulk confusion.  For a bit of fun he tested his rat form out on a giant troll - successfully overcoming its regeneration.  He refused the chance of a stronghold.

After a flying visit to the Government District Thrain journeyed to Umar Hills (saving Sansuki at the City Gates on the way).  After collecting a beljuril and Ilbratha he continued on to the ruined temple.  He also did that without resting (though Thaxy was left), just picking the undead off 1 or 2 at a time.  The Shade Lord was slightly risky as I had forgotten Thrain had used his sunray while saving Sansuki, but Daystar's basic damage proved good enough without the need to use a PfU scroll.

The final objective for the session was Trademeet.  After killing the genies Thrain rested and did some shopping for belt, cloak, hammer and Ras before moving on to the Grove itself - that was done without resting or any problems.  He bought potions from Adratha before killing her (using a rare couple of potion buffs before doing so as he'd already used his summons).  Back in Trademeet he completed a couple more little tasks before finishing his shopping with the Necklace of Missiles and returning to Athkatla.

Fight of the day - Kyland Lind
Thrain started by summoning Kitthix and the efreeti and then moving invisibly into position to guide them.  Kitthix tried webbing Kyland twice, but failed.  The efreeti then used stinking cloud and, as soon as Kyland failed against that, Thrain used Gaxx haste and attacked him - killing him before he had any opportunity to run away.  The efreeti's spells helped against a couple of other druids, while the FoA elemental damage was also good for spell interruption through ironskins.  As a result only the last druid managed to complete an attacking spell - and that only just before he died.

Bg2 run update 2S1.18,

Hear text as mp3,

Freedom fighting – part 2; by Sarah,

The knights of some sort gave me a nice belt as thanks for getting them home and we set ourselves to the task of freeing young orphan children with aoe and range tactics… pretty standard really, nothing to see here.

2s-baldr101.jpg2s-baldr102.jpg2s-baldr103.jpg2s-baldr104.jpg

We sold the loot and recharged another (deathfog) wand then returned home to meet my new students… “a Sarah dagger has a nice ring to it so make me one of them ok guys” … what with freeing the slave mites and giving them some starting cash, my reputation has soared to (18) heroic level which should help convince the paladins to assist me with Bodhi when the time comes for a show down.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 66 - (update 1)

Chanter, half-elf cleric / mage (Grond0) & Tuori, halfling shadowdancer (Gate70)

A short session today saw this pairing on their way in Amn.  They had no problems with the dungeon thanks to the availability of skeleton warriors - in enhanced edition skeletons scale up in power over time rather than making a sudden leap at level 15.  Here one of the skeletons gets the final blow on Ulvaryl.

They just had time to sort out equipment and go to the circus.  Chanter dominated Kalah and had him help kill the shadows before producing a skeleton to join in the attack on him.

Thus far the game has played well, with no crash on exit from the dungeon as has normally been the case in MP.  If that keeps up then playing BG2 will be much more attractive than it's been up to now (which of course is our excuse for doing so poorly in our runs recently :P).

ChanterL7_zpsd8a001da.jpg

TuoriL10_zps104abea5.jpg

Stats:

Chanter, cleric 7 / mage 7, 52 HPs (incl. 5 from Helm), 13 kills (138 in BG1)

Tuori, shadowdancer 10, 69 HPs, 26 kills (128 in BG1), 0 deaths (2 in BG1)

Good start Grond0 and Gate70. Hope your crashfree run will continue like this. (Didn't know about the Skellies, interesting...)

Fresh from Baldur's Gate:

Nymand, LN Elven Bounty Hunter

Spoiler
Nymand's weapon profs are *Short Sword, *Shortbow, *TWF (conform Rogye Rebalancing). He immediately leveled up to 11 as he had quite some surplus XP from BG1. But in Irenicus' dungeon Nymand forwent a lot of possible XP, for little was left of the bravado with which he had recently dealt with Sarevok and the Iron Throne. I have a knack for getting charnames killed at the hands of Mephits in Chateau Irenicus, so I tried to have Nymand sneak his way out of the dungeon. But even in all his cautiousness, Nymand got himself into some serious trouble. First of all he failed to HiS (immediately) after emptying a table in Ilych's room, and was lucky to save vs a Horror spell the Duergar mage cast at him.
Spoiler
I could have skipped that table but I wanted some of the loot that BGT Tweaks imports into SoA. In fact there were quite a lot of BG1 items that Nymand found on the table: Greenstone Amulet, Cloak of Protection +2, Gauntlets of Weapon Expertise, Shadow Armor, Boots of Stealth, Cloak of Balduran, Ring of Fire Resistance, and Ring of Freedom. I'm afraid that keeping all that gear (especially the Greenstone Amulet and the Ring of Free Action) might make the early game a bit too easy. I allowed Nymand to pick up all of it, and to keep the Boots of Stealth and the Shadow Armor as well as an Improved Cloak of Non-Detection I Shadowkeepered into his inventory because it had become his personal item. The rest of the gear would be sold at the Adventurer Mart (for possible later repurchase), and the proceeds of that sale donated at a temple.

Nymand had a huge scare when he discovered that the door past the Mephit Portal room was magically warded. (I didn't know the portals had to be destroyed before the doors would open.) Doomed and blinded he searched his way back to the level portal in order to return whence he had come.

Spoiler
On the other side, numerous Duergar and two angry Golems awaited him, but he found a place to HiS in one of the corridors and allowed himself a rest and some time to think.
Spoiler
I recall my shorties being unable to reach the Mephit Portals with daggers/clubs. So I was close to accepting another death in Irenicus' dungeon if Nymand wouldn't be able to hurt the Portals with his short sword (he had only 8 arrows after all, and was surely going to be blinded a couple of times). He buffed with an oil of speed he had found somewhere and with a Bhaal-DUHM, and discovered much to his relief that he was able to destroy the portals with his short sword.
Spoiler
Nymand didn't bother to try and take the Dryads' acorns from Ilych, or to release the Djinni, or to explore the different rooms adjacent to the wand room; he simply left the hellish dungeon as soon as he could.

I'm quite content to have a Thief in Amn. Thieves are still my favorite D&D class, and I have a couple of mods installed (besides Rogue Rebalancing and Song & Silence, which are staples for me) that should make this playthrough extra interesting for a Thief, i.e. Expanded Thief Stronghold, Assassinations, Sellswords. Hope I can keep this up :)

Thrain - dwarf kensai (update 4)

Back at the Temple sewers Tarnor's gang tried to pick on the wrong mark before Mekrath was webbed by Kitthix.  His yuan-ti guards were at too much of a disadvantage fighting in a stinking cloud and Thrain was soon returning the portal gem.

Entering the Planar Prison he killed the mage bounty hunter before it could buff and had no problems with the others.  He worked his way around, resting after the Master of Thralls, then successfully killed the Warden in a Gaxx-hasted assault.  After killing 2 of the 3 yuan-ti mages the final one saw the writing on the wall and chose to commit suicide by skull trap.

He tracked down Neb while doing the Sir Sarles quest, then paid Gaelan Bayle and ran through Aran's tasks.  There was a slight risk there when Thrain just attacked Lassal in melee without support or preparation.  He was level-drained, but no domination was cast in the second or two he was vulnerable before sending the vampire on his way.  I was more careful at the vampire hide-out, with Azuredge doing the bulk of the work there.  Reporting success to Aran provided Thrain with his first HLA.

Deciding it was time to get the berserker horn, Thrain used 2 potions of magic protection to resist the maze trap.  To get a bit more use out of those he then attacked the Twisted Rune.

After upgrading the horn and the MoD Thrain is ready to travel to Windspear Hills next time.

Fight of the day - Twisted Rune
Thrain approached the dais slowly until Shangalar appeared and then immediately retreated back into the alcove and used a PfU scroll.  Shangalar teleported after him, only to die to a single cast of Azuredge.  Thrain then summoned the air elemental, Kitthix and the genie and sent the genie forward as cover.  It died to Vaxall's death spell, but a Gaxx-hasted / DUHM assault took down the beholder before he could turn on Thrain and dispel him.  Revanek's chances were slim already, but disappeared entirely after being webbed by Kitthix.

Shyressa would have quickly been taken down by Azuredge, but saved against one attack before turning on Layene and her pit fiend after suffering from a meteor storm.  Layene killed the vampire and the pit fiend, but Thrain waited where he was until a summoned efreeti disappeared.  His air elemental then moved forward, but was immediately disintegrated.  Thrain summoned Ras as an alternative distraction while he threw his hammer.  When that went through stoneskins Layene tried to recover with a chain contingency, but it was already too late.

Gotta agree with Corey. excellent work there against the TR band and also in the Planar Prison, Grond0.

Nymand, Elf Bounty Hunter, update 2
Not a lot of progress to report, but a careful start in Athkatla has been made. Nymand solved the troubles at the Circus without difficulty (not letting the Shadows distract him, focusing instead directly on Kalah). Stealth helped him through the first ambush. He would have liked to acquire Arbane's Sword there, but felt himself insufficiently prepared to deal with a cleric and a mage, and so he walked off. A second ambush soon followed: poisoned Renfeld. Again, no blood was spilt. Nymand approached the ambushers hidden in shadows, picked up Renfeld, and brought the man to Rylock.
At the Copper Coronet he discovered that its owner, Lethinan, was keeping slaves to perform for his public. He battled the Beastmaster for the prison keys. This battle was complicated when Nymand inadvertently entered one of the fighting rings (locking himself in), rather than walking around it. Invisibility + oil of speed + duhm gave him the edge however against the Beastmaster. As soon as he found a way, he left the pit and used his increased speed to hide and backstab the pets.

Spoiler
The slaves were released, Lethinan was slain with a backstab, and Hendak took control of the Copper Coronet. Nymand promised Hendak to deal with the rampant slavery in the city in a more permanent way, but he postponed that job. Before he left, he slew a Dwarven child killer for a stuffed bear that the spirit of the murdered chuld had asked him for at the Graveyard District. In the Bridge District he investigated the Skinner Murders, but the culprit, Reijek, eluded him. He was nevertheless rewarded for his efforts by Lieutenant Aegisfield.

A lone wolf, Nymand isn't one to associate himself with a Thieves Guild, but eager for gold he went to offer his services to the local Shadow Thieves nonetheless. He accepted to infiltrate a guildhouse for Renal Bloodscalp and look for proof of treachery by the manager of the guildhouse, Mae'Var. He did a simple job for Mae'Var and was then sent to work for Edwin, the Wizard of Thay. The first job for Edwin was to dispatch a mage called Rayic Gethras, but when Nymand sought the latter out, he had a change of heart. The fact that Rayic Gethras had more than a handful of pet Mephits and two huge Stone Golems suggested that the mage was probably too powerful for him to take on without better equipment.

Spoiler
Nymand, not at all amused by Edwin's idea to set him up against the powerful mage, struck a deal with Rayic Gethras: Nymand would leave a 1500 GP bail and return with Edwin when convenient, at which moment Gethras would deal with Edwin, and Nymand would get his gold back plus a reward for his work. Thus, Nymand continued to work with/for Edwin and Mae'Var until written evidence of Mae'Var's betrayal of the Shadow Thieves was secured. (Nymand could have doublecrossed Renal Bloodscalp and inform Mae'Var of what was going on, but he decided he liked Renal better, so he didn't.) Edwin was brought before Rayic Gethras, and slain by Gethras right in front of Nymand. For one moment Nymand felt a pang of guilt, but he realized that he had only exposed Edwin to the exact same danger that the Red Wizard had exposed him to.
Spoiler
Before he would no longer be welcome at Mae'Var's guildhouse he quaffed five potions of master thievery (for 240 or 250 pickpockets) to rob Gorch. This was done initially for the potions such as those of invisibility and speed, but Nymand ended up appropriating weapons and other items as well. This was all so thrilling, not in the least because of the slight chance he'd get busted, that he went shopping for free at other stores as well in the Docks, Bridge, Promenade and Slums districts, including Bernard at the CC, and even in the sewers (Roger the Fence). Nymand never got busted and he now keeps more than a thousand enchanted arrows in an ammo belt, and he owns dozens of useful potions, and plenty of spells that might become useful at some point. Also, the fencing of stolen goods netted him more gold than he had ever had (>50k GP), which allowed him the purchase of items that could not be stolen, such as Gauntlets of Weapon Expertise and Mercykiller Ring at the Adventurer Mart, and a Deep Red Ioun Stone identical to the one he had bought once at the High Hedge, as well as the Black Cat's Claw (Ninja-To +2, +1 Dex, +1 Luck), an enchanted buckler useful mainly for its daily Improved Invisibility ability, and a cowl that gives immunity to backstab and poison, all from his friend Marina at the Thieves Guild.

At the Graveyard district Nymand entered one the tombs where he met Pai'Na, a Hive Mistress, and agreed to retrieve Spiders's Bane for her from its wielders in the Sewers. Hidden in shadows he snuck past Spiders and Beholders to complete this quest.

Spoiler
He was rewarded with Kitthix, the Black Spider Figurine, and had Cromwell upgrade it to make it a bit hardier in battle. In the Bridge District, Improved Kitthix immediately proved her worth against Tirdir's buriers.
Spoiler
Nymand has just met Lynn, and he has agreed to work for her. (Assassinations mod)
Spoiler
He also still has the Slaver Compound, and the dismantling of Mae'Var high on his to do list.

Nymand is currently level 14, with Find and Set Traps around 100 (thanks in part to items), with his average stealth around 120 (thanks again to items), and with 100 Detect Illusions. He was already proficient in Short Swords/Ninja-To and Shortbows, and has achieved *** in Two Weapon Fighting. If he reaches level 16, his next proficiency will probably be Clubs so that he can work with blunt weapons as well.

@Blackraven. Looks promising. I thought I read in this thread somewhere (Grond0 I think) that said that normal pick-pocketing is the activity that has minimum 1% chance of failure - if your score is high enough (every merchant is different), you can rob from most merchants at will without a chance of failure.

Thanks! I had never used the stealing/pickpocketing ability much, but I guess it's not for nothing that Thieves and Bards get this skill. They're very item-dependent (solo) classes, and I do feel Nymand will be better able now to cope with what awaits him.
Btw it'd be pretty funny if what you say is right re: stealing at no risk. I was pretty nervous, especially with the open area merchants (unsure whether the entire area would go hostile after a failed attempt at theft, or only the merchant).

Well if you mess it up sure, it would make the merchant hostile and the merchant would run around, making more people hostile. However, with a 240 stealing skill, I think you had your bases well covered.

Just be careful - if you don't have ToBex, pickpocket value can (theoretically) wrap around 250 and become 0.

Be joining you guys tomorrow for a new game...

Unless a mod changes it you can indeed rob from a merchant's inventory risk-free (there is a risk pick-pocketing a merchant - such as attempting to get Ribald's ring of regeneration).  From memory, Bernard is the most difficult merchant in the game to rob and requires 228 to ensure success - so 240 would allow you to steal from any merchant that allows that as an option.

Thrain - dwarf kensai (update 5)

Thrain arrived at Windspear invisible, which enabled him to buff for an easy victory over some disguised paladins.  He swiftly moved on to the dungeon and started as he meant to go on by cutting down Digdag at the entrance.  A sunray for vampires, Gaxx haste for greater werewolves and a throwing hammer for golems saw him rack up lots of XP on the way to sort out Samia's crew.  Leaving behind summons to attack Conster was then enough to get him to level 23 before confronting Firkraag.

He went straight on to catch up with Thaxy.  On arrival he realised he didn't have the wardstone, but buffed up a bit upstairs before going down and using Ras to provide bit of a distraction.  His lack of a non-magical weapon was another handicap and he had to make use of a potion of invulnerability to counter a malison.  However, in the end his monk kensai fists proved to be too much for the dragon.

Back in Athkatla Thrain went to call on the illithid - only to realise he didn't have the key for their enclave.  Fortunately, as that's a quest item, it was still on the floor in the Windspear dungeon when Thrain returned there.  Returning to the illithid Thrain used greater deathblow to finish them off in no time.

He's just entered the Planar Sphere, which is likely to be his final target before heading to Brynnlaw.

Fight of the day - Firkraag
Thrain did some pre-buffing, including using potions of speed and fire resistance.  He then summoned the air elemental, Kitthix and the efreeti who attacked from the front while Thrain braved the noxious fumes at the rear.  That allowed him to escape dispel magic and the first wing buffet followed by a fire breath, while having Dragonslayer equipped initially ensured he was protected from fear.

A second buffet quickly followed, but that didn't render Thrain unconscious and he came immediately back into the fray with a Gaxx haste.  That led to a straight melee fight with Firkraag, but with hardiness active I didn't expect that to be a problem even if a dragon slow-down effect occurred - it didn't and Firkraag was quickly chopped up.

Hi there, friends! Nice to see so much activities here and I'm glad to report that Impish Face woke up from his deep midwinter slumber once again and ready to proceed further. The events I'm going to tell you about aren't quite recent so the details are faded away already but I'll try to reproduce them following the set of their screenshots.

As you might remember we were intended to complete our both stronghold's questlines and try to advance Jaheira's quest as far as possible before sailing to Brynnlaw. That led to quite a lot of travels between the areas (I don't like to just *sleep-out* all the time we need to advance) and thus to a lot of ambushes. Our usual strategy there was a combo of Greater Command/Greater Malison/Chaos/Pixie Dust right away mixed with Cloudkill/Death Spell every now and then:

th_Baldr223.png th_Baldr224.png th_Baldr225.png

th_Baldr226.png th_Baldr227.png th_Baldr228.png

At some point, I relaxed slightly and hit one of those ambushes unprepared so that one was quite nervous but as it ran out Dermin finally appeared:

th_Baldr229.png th_Baldr230.png th_Baldr231.png

th_Baldr232.png th_Baldr233.png th_Baldr234.png

Jaheira left the Crew to spare the rest of us of further Harper's attacks but we were not going to let her face this all alone:

th_Baldr235.png th_Baldr236.png th_Baldr237.png

With her back in the Crew we completed the rest of stronghold's questlines,

th_Baldr238.png th_Baldr239.png th_Baldr240.png

bid farewell to Valygar (it's always hard to me to make this decision and hear his *Sigh* Are we through?...  :(  You are great warrior, Valygar, and you just need to wait a little bit more for my next walkthrough when I'll run Gloomy (my gnomish Illusionist/Thief alter ego) or Ozzy (gnomish Illusionist/Cleric). I'll take you all the way to the end then, of that I swear!), picked up Yoshimo and finally set sail to Brynnlaw.

{Part 2}

Upon arrival we took care of welcoming Goth' party, helped Ginia and disposed off Galvena & her pet wizard.

th_Baldr241.png th_Baldr242.png th_Baldr243.png

th_Baldr244.png th_Baldr245.png th_Baldr246.png

Perth the Adept was left alone for now and we nearly convinced the Pirate King to send us into the Asylum when Yoshimo stepped forward and took care of that matter for us. There Impish Face sacrificed 1 point of INT, was stripped of his divine soul (I took this opportunity to change his avatar to hooded dwarven thief just for the look of it and as a sign of that dire loss) and we were thrown into the Maze where we finally united with Imoen.

The Maze itself was pretty straightforward with only one nasty surprise when Lich unexpectedly teleported right into our midst and fired his pre-buffs there (including ADHW which badly hurt a half of the Crew). Even aTweak-ed Pit Fiend with his Wish>Heal and fiendish gating (two Erinyes) was much more relaxing:

Nymand has been quite busy pursuing all kinds of activities, some of them quite noble and others shadier, but all lucrative. He delivered on his promise to Hendak to dismantle the slaver base in the Slums District. The rogue entered via the sewers, where Hobgoblins, slimes, an Otyugh and Kobolds were dealt with, and where Lilarcor was obtained (to be sold later). Nymand entered the slavers' compund hidden in shadows, and found several warriors/archers and a priest of Cyric. With a single backstab he took out the latter first.
Invisibility items/potions allowed Nymand to finish off a few more of his foes until an area was left where no enemies were in sight. He threw a special trap to the spot where a group of the warriors had gathered. They all got held, which greatly helped the elf finish off his enemies with backstabs (though he wouldn't be fast enough to kill all of them before the Hold effect wore off). Trolls were done in with backstabs and fire arrows from Tuigan's bow, and then a second squad of enemies was engaged. It included two wizards that would waste most of their spells on Kitthix before Nymand dealt with them using stealth and acid arrows. The other slavers and two Yuan-Ti fell to the Bounty Hunter's backstabs.
Another job he still hadn't finished was to get rid of Mae'Var, so after a good night's rest, that's what Nymand set out to do. Potions of invisibility, defense, speed, and magic protection (2x) enabled him to clear tthe guild house without too much difficulty. His Detect Illusions ability came in very handy for backstabbing purposes. Downstairs he chose a Priest of Cyric as his first target. While HiS he then watched Kitthix web and kill some of the Assassins before he would dispel Mae'Var's buffs with an arrow of dispelling. After that, Mae'Var's death was but a formality.
Nymand reported to Renal Bloodscalp and was rewarded a Short Sword +3 (not the Short Sword of Backstabbing ) as well as the guildhouse. When Nymand returned he set his Thieves to work, and he was informed by a woman named Ama of a meeting with a foreign politician that was to take place at night at Waukeen's Promenade. However, Kamuzu (a longtime prisoner of Mae'Var, released by Nymand) told the new housemaster to be wary of this Ama; he had seen her more than once with Mae'Var and suspected the two had been lovers. He also offered to stay on at the guildhouse as the house alchemist; an offer that Nymand gladly accepted (it's good to have potions of invisibility, speed, etc, even though they cannot be stolen and thus have to be bought).
The meeting with Ama and the 'politician' did indeed prove to be a setup, but a good supply of invisibility potions (plus his 100 Detect Illusions) that allowed for effective backstabbing kept Nymand on the winning side. He didn't get any time to rest because he was immediately approached by a fellow rogue he had met at the Shadow Thief headquarters, Sansuki, urging Nymand to protect him against three vampires that were after him. The same tactics (invisibility and backstabs) made Nymand prevail in this encounter as well.
All this turmoil made him miss the daily opportunity to deal with his first mark for Lynn (Assassinations mod); it was too late. Rather than waiting an entire day or seeking other business opportunities in Athkatla, Nymand decided to travel to Trademeet to investigate the animal troubles a messenger had told him of. He traveled via Watcher's Keep (for Short Sword of Mask +4). Interestingly there were no ambushes, so Nymand arrived safe and sound at the village, though he did indeed have to deal with attacking wild animals. He stole an Efreeti bottle and offered a Dao Djinn to find the infamous Ihtafeer's head. He also spoke with Migh Merchant Logan and a Druid named Cernd, who wanted him to investigate the likely source of the animal plague: a nearby Druid Grove. There he ran into numerous Trolls roaming around (including SCS/Tactics-style spellcasting Spirit Trolls - I must have mistakenly installed that spellcasting ability). Nymand experimented with traps and backstabs, but found that those weapons of his were of limited effect, so he quaffed a potion of invisibility and simply left the creatures behind. He did dispatch a bunch of spiders, but left Druids and Spore Colonies alone. He entered a small house that proved to be Ihtafeer's hideout. Ihtafeer and two henchmen gave Nymand a very hard time. A death fog proved highly damaging and thus made it impossible for him to engage in combat. He could nothing but wait. Kitthix fared a bit better, holding her ground against the henchmen and eventually prevailing thanks to webs. And when the fog had subsided, Kitthix and Nymand finished off the Ihtafeer together. Outside, Nymand had some stress when a Myconid confused him, but thankfully he was hasted, he ran in a convenient direction, and he was in a fighting mood, that made him successfully defend himself against an attacking Grizzly Bear and against the Myconid itself. Arrows of dispelling facilitated the slaying of Dalok and a Shadow Druid; other foes were taken down with backstabs, except two Fire Elementals that were dispatched in melee. Cernd was then recruited to deal with Faldorn and complete the Trademeet quest. His Insect Plague lasted longer than Faldorn's Creeping Doom, which allowed him to summon allies that would finish Faldorn off.(In my setup I made Cernd a Totemic Druid, using the Level 1 NPCs mod, partly because I wanted to run a Shapeshifter once myself.)Nymand was amply rewarded back in Trademeet (and rewarded himself a bit more with some free shopping), helped Tiris and secured the Cloak in the crypt, and returned to Athkatla. He's currently at his guild house taking care of guild business.

Thrain - dwarf kensai (update 6)

Good to see Athkatla has suddenly become very congested - good luck to everyone.

In a mini-session Thrain breezed through the Planar Sphere without any problems and took ship for Brynnlaw.  There, a critical miss allowed Perth to start a conversation, but a follow-up GWW ensured Thrain was the one that finished it.  He inherited Perth's book of true seeing.

Fight of the day - Tolgerias
With characters that can't do much damage I tend to feed Tolgerias summons one by one from out of sight.  However, Thrain had no need to resort to such tactics.  He summoned Kitthix and the efreeti before going invisible and coming into sight range of Tolgerias - prompting him to start casting true sight.  He then quickly closed the gap and a few strokes from a FoA GWW got rid of Tolgerias before his buffs could activate.  Thrain then turned his attention to the mage and managed to finish him off as well with the same GWW.
