Diary of Swiftblade

Dropped Jaheira from the party and freed some slaves.

When I have the gold, I must buy a belt to improve Aerie's strength.

Also must buy her a decent flail, unless of course I wait for a free one! :)

I was so pleased when I came across my Moonblade. Looks like I might survive for a while.

Nain{2} - dwarf kensai (update 1)

In the dungeon Nain made comfortable progress.  He left a number of encounters, such as the elemental plane, undone and will follow that procedure generally in BG2 in order to avoid getting to the level cap as early as the first Nain.  Possibly the most dangerous of the bits he did was the mephit portals, but his use of horror there meant that the first 3 portals were destroyed before he came in sight of the radiant mephit - meaning it had no real chance even before Nain saved against colour spray and one-shotted the portal.

He got to level 9 in the dungeon and another good roll took him to 99 HPs - exactly on the expected average.  That should set him up well for the challenges to come.

After reporting to Gaelan, Nain helped Hendak take control of the Copper Coronet and bought Azuredge and Stonefire.  The former came in handy to clean up the opposition after horror sent all of Suna Seni's comrades scrambling.

Nain went to Watcher's Keep to pick up the potion case - though it's not necessary for long-term storage it should still help with the odd bit of looting - before a bit more travelling enabled him to rescue Renfeld.  On the way to return him to the harpers the orog ambush occurred, but Nain just ran away from that (as he's done from all subsequent ambushes).

After returning Renfeld he used the RoAC to get some free attacks on Prebek and Sanasha, but couldn't quite finish off the former before his invisibility ran out - causing him to dodge in and out of the house to avoid spells while completing the job.  Reporting back to the harpers took Nain to level 10 and he did a spot of looting before watching Xzar get assassinated.

In the Graveyard Azuredge accounted for a number of undead and spiders before Nain used the RoAC to avoid any retaliation by Pai'Na and ensure any spiders that saved against horror and bit him wouldn't poison him.

Moving on to the de'Arnise Hold Nain essentially took the shortest course to get the FoA and Shield Amulet - though he did kill all the golems there, which was just enough to get him to level 11.

At Trademeet he did the genies using RoAC and Kitthix to protect against petrification.  After doing some shopping he then went to the Druid Grove - passing through most of that invisible, but picking up Belm before inviting Cernd to demonstrate his table manners while snacking on Faldorn.

He then did the Sir Sarles quest - buying the girdle of hill giant strength allowing DUHM to get up to the necessary 22 strength to break down Neb's door.  He still needed to go and get some healing from the temple after Neb backstabbed him twice before coming to take his revenge after a third backstab.  However, I then forgot to drop the illithium before talking to Sir Sarles and he grabbed the good stuff rather than the substitute.  I decided that Nain should be a goodie-goodie and not kill him to get it back, so he'll have to be careful when confronting level draining opponents.

Nain also took the moral high ground for once by releasing a kidnap victim - getting some Boots of Avoidance as a reward.  I decided that was an appropriate place to stop for now before I made a more deadly mistake.

Quick question before i get started on my run, any rule/guideline on how many attribute rolls you can take at character creation?

It's entirely up to you - you can spend hours doing it if you want or even use an automatic reroller if you fancy that.

Best of luck with whatever you attempt.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 70{2} - (update 1)

St John, human berserker (Grond0) & Vargus, human kensai (Gate70)

Having come through BG1 unscathed this pair made rather heavy weather of a mini-session while getting out of Jon's dungeon.

With no defense against traps there was quite a bit of resting and healing required.  There was also a near death for St John against the floor trap near the cambion when St John's icon suddenly veered to the side and over the trap (I had waited for Vargus to go in front with the intention of avoiding that, but the multi-player lag means that the other player's icon is not necessarily where it appears on the screen).

The elemental plane was not visited and Ulvaryl escaped, but otherwise everything was completed.

Stats:

St John, berserker 8, 91 HPs (incl. 5 from Helm), 251 kills

Vargus, kensai 8, 81 HPs, 203 kills, 0 deaths

Sounds like fun.  I started pretty much the other way round by becoming an expert in BG1 before ever trying no-reload and then dying painfully (and sometimes hilariously) over and over again in BG2 while learning what to avoid there ...

To clarify, starting in BG2 for my first run.

MODS: Fixpack, Tweakpack, Item Randomiser, Unfinished Business, and Widescreen

CHARACTERSDopey, Elven Archer Short Bow ***** Long Sword * TWS **

Grumpy, Dwarven Barbarian Halberd ** Warhammer ** THWS **

 Sleepy, Elven T/M Staff * Dagger * Crossbow *

Going to use just these 3, none of the regular NPCs. Not going to drop to normal for spell memorization or level up, because I can never remember to change it back.

The trio made their way through the Chateau carefully, with Dopey picking off goblins and deurgar with stealth shots. The otyugh was carefully poked with a halberd from the safety of the stairs. (you would think something with tentacles that long should have better reach, eh?)  Illyich and the golems both received rages and arrows, while the big mephit group was bypassed with stealth. Freed the genie, realized i had meant to give Grumpy a star in twohanded swords, and carried on. The randomiser removed the helm of balduran, the metaspell amulet, and the pommel gem of the equalizer from their usual spots and left nothing, which worries me.

All NPCs were told to get lost, Yoshimo not serving as a pack mule since i consoled in a Bag of Holding. My install lets gems, scrolls, and ammo stack as well as making containers infinite, so inventory shouldn't be too much of a problem. Rested after moving to level 2. On killing the mephit portals Grumpy leveled up and gained 48 HP, so i corrected that with EEKeeper to 13 after rolling an 8 +5 con. Got nervous when I stepped too close to a web with Dopey, so Grumpy ran in. Her dwarven saves kept her in the clear while she finished the radiant and flame portals. I freed Frennedan and was nice, forgetting he betrays you, so he showed his true colors just as we attacked Ulvaryl. She escaped in spite of being firebreathed, but the assassins weren't so lucky. Exited the dungeon.

Skipped the circus to head straight to the slums for the Glasses of ID, but found the randomiser had vanished those as well. Then freed Hendak, offing Corvhale and Bregg on the way, to buy the Blade of Roses. That too was gone along with Stonefire and the Sword of Flame, replaced by Ashen Scales +2 and Protector of the Second +2. Even the Beastmaster dropped the ring of Spell Turning instead of Tuigan bow! Randomiser isn't helping me out so far. Ended session there to do the chores before my GF gets home.

Stats:

Dopey, Archer 8, 100 HP

Grumpy, Barb 8, 132 HP

Sleepy, Mage 8/Thief 8, 53 HP

And Serg, thanks for the welcome, just finished reading your Avatars run a few days ago, it was one to remember!

Nain{2} - dwarf kensai (update 2)

A generally pretty high-quality session this morning saw Nain break the back of his Chapter 2 and 3 work.  Tackling most encounters at somewhat lower level than usual added a bit of interest as it made using things like Namarra and the Ring of the Ram useful where they would normally be crowded out by other options.

In the Temple Sewers Nain collected an alternative cloak from a rakshasa and then started the Unseeing Eye quest to get access to the Shade Lich.  That was killed with a PfU scroll, as was the Elemental Lich in the Bridge (Nain equipping the Claw of Kazgaroth for the first time there to protect against the petrification trap).  It will be some time before he has the strength from DUHM to open Kangaxx's door (or the one to the City Gates lich) though so he left the other liches for now.

Invisibility would be handy for Nain, so he decided to have a go at Mencar's crew.  To prevent Brennan from running away with the ring of invisibility Kitthix webbed him at the 5th attempt (resting twice in between).  Smaeluv hit Dain a couple of times while Brennan was being killed and Nain dragged him downstairs for disposal before coming back and silencing Pooky and Amon with Namarra.  Killing them took him to level 12 before he went to collect Mencar to finish things off.

Back in the Sewers Kitthix was quickly successful at webbing Mekrath for easy disposal.  Nain left the umber hulk guards alone, but used the RoAC to safely take the Portal Gem.  Using that he was soon at the Planar Prison.  Entering that invisibly he got out of sight before true sight registered and brought out summons to help kill the Bounty Hunters - relatively easy after the mage was killed before he could buff.

Working his way round Nain used mainly summons and horror on a large group of umber hulks.  There was one nasty moment there when one of those unexpectedly followed him while he was dragging a thrall away - his saving throw of 1 did not ensure success against confusion, but he succeeded and quickly used the Horn of Kazgaroth to boost his saving throw while finishing the umber hulk off.  He rested a couple of times to play safe while using summons to distract the Master of Thralls and more umber hulks near the warden before trying to silence the Warden from out of sight.  After another rest that was successful and he was soon disposed of, with the final umber hulk guard quickly following.  The reward for escaping took Nain to level 13.

Moving on to Umar Hills Nain used Arbane to protect against the mimic while draining its blood in order to obtain Ilbratha.  There is no equipment of interest to Nain in the Ruined Temple, other than the Crom Faeyr scroll guarded by Thaxy and Nain didn't fancy his chances in a dragon fight at the moment.  Hence he went to collect Valygar's body and took that back to Athkatla to grease the locks on the Planar Sphere.  Before entering though he paid Gaelan Bayle and went to get an upgraded ring of protection.

In the Sphere Nain continued to play safe by putting summons up as distractions.  He got to level 14 against the halflings and watched invisibly while summons beat up Lavok.  He then went on to recover a demon heart - using a charge of the Horn there in addition to RoAC as I couldn't remember what the modifier on the demon's death gaze was.  Nain attempted to kill Tolgerias before he could buff, but his lack of Gaxx improved haste meant he failed in that.  His summons were able to kill the mage, but Nain then ran away and rested before coming back.  His summons then depleted Tolgerias' most dangerous spells, allowing Nain to finish him off with Azuredge - getting to level 15 as a result.  He had no further difficult encounters in the rest of the Sphere and took Lavok outside to get a last glimpse of the sky.

Destroying Tanova's ambush was enough for level 16 before Nain moved on to the Windspear Hills.  Entering the dungeon there he made use of the Ring of the Ram to blast Digdag into the wall (without Gaxx haste he might well have been able to run away otherwise).  I normally use sunray on the large group of vampires, but throwing Azuredge while Ras distracted them killed all but one of them anyway.  A few more undead guarding the Chapel Key were enough to get Nain to level 17.

Two protection from fire scrolls allowed the genies to be smacked down and Nain set his counter-ambush for Samia.  Ferric Ironblade managed to backstab him during that contest, but with him dead Nain was able to complete a comfortable victory.  He didn't have Belm with him and attacking at just 2.5 APR made the greater werewolves a bit of a problem for Azuredge, but distracting them with Ras while attacking with Stonefire proved just good enough.  Nain didn't bother cleaning everything in the dungeon up, but the golems on the way to Tazok were enough for level 18 before he beat up Conster to release Iltha.  He left Firkraag for now though.

Back in the City his DUHM was now good enough to allow him to open up Kangaxx's hideout.  He used a PfU scroll to kill the City Gates lich first before going on to Kangaxx.  Opening the door there level drained him for the first time and to ensure he didn't forget about the nasty effects that causes (such as spell save changing from -4 to 2) he went straight to the temple to be restored before coming back to use Daystar to deal with Kangaxx.  As usual for my characters, vanity got the better of Nain and he used the Rod of Terror on some minotaurs and pirates to wrap charisma round to 25.  He also returned to the temple to get the Claw surgically removed, now that the Ring of Gaxx is available as a replacement.

Three Dwarves - update 2

Started the session with some market research. Ribald turns out to be in possession of the sleeper, the flame of the north, and the rings of human influence and danger sense. Unfortunately the party cannot afford any of them, so we go free the circus instead, Kalah not lasting long in the face of arrows and halberds, while the shadows are carefully ignored. Grumpy levels again, gaining 56 HP, corrected to 11 on a die roll of 6. (anyone know why it keeps doing this? seems like it's trying to add all of her bonus HPs from constitution for every level - every time she levels up)

Ambushed on the way to the City Gates, Suna Seni not appearing as she now has a role in finding Valygar, but Arbane dropped nevertheless. Once we arrived we found Jafir, paid for his lamp, then went outside to watch Hareishan eat some Shadow Thieves. Onward to De'Arnise Keep, but Renfeld's ambush triggers. Grumpy and Dopey pop the mage before she gets a Lightning Bolt off, then we run back to the Docks to try the Harper quests. (I managed to lock myself out of the Harper building last time I played, so I'll need to be extra cautious upstairs.)

DISASTER STRIKES!

Feeling confident, we buff inside Valygar's home with haste and invisibility, then confront Prebek and Sanasha. Sanasha is quickly killed, but Prebek gets off first a Horror driving Sleepy into a panic and then a Monster Summoning, creating enough bodies to trap Grumpy in the upper left corner. Diseased and slowed, she fights valiantly on, Dopey pops out to use the Ring of Spell Turning and incurs a warning from the Cowlies, and keeps fighting... And then Grumpy falls. In a storm of anger and grief, Dopey rushes back in to avenge his fallen companions (maybe not the best idea)

He runs madly in circles, taking a few heavy hits from the golem (21 damage!) and picking off the oh-so-dangerous ghasts to avoid being held. First one falls... Then a second! Only the golem remains, but Dopey goes to the nearby Temple to resurrect Grumpy first. They return to Prebek's, Grumpy makes a run for her gear, then returns to crush the golem with the Sword of Chaos. Now to resurrect Dopey...

(more soon)

Three Dwarves - Update 2 continued

Dopey is happy to be alive again, he memorizes Sunfire but fumbles when reading Improved Haste. He also fails to detect both traps in Prebek's house, meaning Grumpy takes about 75 damage picking up scrolls, a warhammer +1, what looks like Spear +3 Impaler, and Shazzelim. Fortunately we decide to do some resting and IDing, as the Spear turns out to be Backbiter (cursed!)

Returning to the Harper Compound, we find the Equalizer Jewel behind a painting of an eye, then Sleepy dons the Harper amulet to take a peek upstairs. After some careful looting, we return "Montaron" to Xzar (Dopey and Sleepy leveling to 9) then head to finally buy the ring of Human Influence. Except we are ambushed by Orogs on the way. Sleepy takes ten paces, turns, and Webs, catching every Orog but one while Dopey picks off the humans and Grumpy slices and dices. Handled. At the Adventurer's Mart we buy the ring, then head to the Graveyard District to investigate a few tombs. One gives us a Pro Magic scroll, and Pai'na gives us Delver's Plate (useless with a barb as a tank) instead of an Ioun Stone. Dopey and Sleepy inch forward together, Dopey slighly ahead and stealthed to scout for monsters while Sleepy inches behind searching for traps. The Crypt King is narrowly defeated, felling Grumpy before being webbed by Kitthix and finished with the Staff Spear +2 and Acid Arrows. Namarra is not there, instead we find Boots of Avoidance.

On our way to get Grumpy revived (again) we are ambushed, and this time we simply run. The Bridge District has a temple, and having already found the Boots of Avoidance I'm curious what our reward will be for the ransom. Unfortunately I forget and release her immediately so no treats for me. It is time to head back to the Slums and clean up the Slavers though, so that is our next destination.

Stats

Dopey, Archer 9, 110 HP - Cambion

Grumpy, Barb 9, 143 HP, 2 Deaths - Mephit Portal

Sleepy, Mage 9/Thief 10, 61 HP, 1 Death - Crypt King

Three Dwarves Two Elves - Update 3

Entering the sewers, we try a tricky arrow/web combo, but utterly fail. Dopey forgets to get out of the web radius before it goes off, meaning he is stuck with two Hobgoblins (also webbed) and a passerby Otyugh(webbed also) while shamans and archers take potshots. Grumpy sighs, Rages, and charges the archers. She quickly disposes of them and one shaman while Sleepy casts horror on the others in case they get free and summons Kitthix. After that the battle goes smoothly, the Otyugh not managing to land a hit on anyone. The rest of the sewers are arrowed away, with us VERY carefully disarming the petrification trap on the bridge. once Lilarcor is obtained we go after the Myconids, Grumpy with the sword, Dopey under II, and Sleepy hiding in the corner passively.

The initial fight in the Love Boat is pretty easy, with most spells disrupted with arrows and Haegen Spooked by Sleepy. We disarm the Acid trap, but Dopey accidentally trips a Color Spray or Prismatic Spray trap in the middle room between the Yuan-Ti and the Wizards so he runs away quickly. We polish off the snakemen, then drop a web in the wizard room from out of LOS and Dopey picks off first a wizard, then several fighters, then as the second wizard shows up and manages to produce Stoneskins and Mirror Images we use a Magic Missile to speed the process. His mirrors just barely let him manage a Skull Trap before he is killed, dropping Boots of Stealth and the Cloak of Protection +1. We then return to Hendak, who rewards us with the Dragonslayer sword and another level for Sleepy (M9/T11) A lot of IDing and selling later we pay off Gaelen Bayle (Grumpy->10 and Sleepy->Mage10) and go get our presents from Aran Linvail. Chunked Del and saved Sansuki on the way, but he wasn't very grateful. Aran seemed to really take a shine to Grumpy, since instead of giving us the AoP and Ring of Protection +2 he handed her Warblade+4 and the Duskblade halberd, both of which she is proficient in. (shame because i could really use the AoP...)

Off to do Mae'Var's tasks. The Weathermistress' Amulet is easily procured, with a quick stop by the sewers to grab the +1 THAC0 Gauntlets from the Rakshasa. Rayic Gethras frankly terrifies me, having read about so many runs ending to him, but the Mephits are raged and arrowed, the Golems raged and Warbladed/Dragonslayered, and Rayic himself? II and Rage outlast his buffs, his first damage spell is evaded with the stairs, and when he follows Grumpy down two arrows and a big swing of Warblade get us the Nymph Cloak and the Staff of Curing, with some AC7 bracers thrown in for fun. We borrow Embarls dagger and buy some documents too, then check in with Renal before going to clean house.

Haste and Remove Fear for everyone plus II for Dopey, Rage for Grumpy, and Armor+Stoneskins for Sleepy get us downstairs, where Mae'Var manages to go invisible and do some buffing while we Web/Shoot/Horror/Rage the rest of his cronies. Grumpy's rage finally runs out and she is caught in the Web, so Mae'Var rudely picks on her. Fortunately Kitthix and and the elves are their to help out, and Mae'Var soon falls, giving us the Ring of Earth Control.

On to the Bridge District to meet the guild contact, unfortunately we run into Parisa and she decides we look tasty. Grumpy is out of rages (and I'm making bad decisions) but engages anyway, hoping we can kill her quickly. We can't. She chunks Grumpy in two hits, then chases us all the way through the area till we flee to the Slums. With her death we lost Duskblade, Warblade, Lilarcor, the Sword of Chaos, the Ring of Human Influence, the Nymph Cloak, Girdle of Bluntness, and Ring of Earth Control, as well as the contents of our Gem Bag... Not good.

...Not sure what now. I still don't want to use Bioware NPCs, so I'm thinking of adding in another multiplayer character. What is a fair amount of experience to give them though? What do the regular guys have when you ask them to join you? Does it vary depending on where you are or is it set? Going to head to the De'Arnise Keep in the meantime and see if I can get everyone else killed.

Current Stats

Dopey, Archer 10, 113HP - Mae'Var

Sleepy, Mage 10/ Thief 11, 64 HP, 1 Death - Crypt King

Grumpy - Very, Very Dead

Ouch... sorry about Grumpy Wing :(
I think that at the current stage of your run, NPCs will have more or less the same amount of XP as Dopey and Sleepy (some might even have more). You could recruit and immediately ditch a few of the NPCs in the Copper Coronet to get an idea of how much XP they have, and give a new custom NPC a similar amount.

Good luck, it's been an entertaining read so far.

Diary of Swiftblade.

Minc, Aerie, and I set free the rest of the slaves. I got held by a kobold mage which made the battle a bit harder. However we all survived.

Not so when we fought the slavers. Minsc, seeing that we were easily dealing with the slavers, went off on his own and got killed by some trolls before we could go and help him. Aerie raised him and we cleared the area.

On our return to the inn, we were accosted by Nalia and helped her clear the trolls etc. there.

On our way back to Amn we were ambushed. No big deal, but strangely a boy found us there and asked us to help his village. Of course we agreed.

Nain{2} - dwarf kensai (update 3)

Nain started off by invading the illithid hideout.  Recently my fighters have been storming through there using deathblow and GWWs, but Nain had not got any HLAs at that point, so settled for running round using Azuredge with the odd summons providing distractions - getting to level 19 in the process.

Next Nain turned his attention to Aran's tasks and was soon arriving at vampire HQ.  His first vampire victim of Azuredge there got him to level 20, but there were plenty of others after that.  A first use of sunray killed Tanova without even the need for a follow-up attack, while summons shielded Nain while he used a first WW with Daystar to send Bodhi on her way.

Nain took ship to Brynnlaw immediately and gave a few more vampires waiting on arrival a close-up view of Azuredge.  Perth did manage to start a conversation and buff despite being attacked by a kai GWW.  However, without PfMW, a follow-up WW sorted him out.  His infinite book of spells once more consisted of just fireball and burning hands and was thrown away, but the wardstone allowed Nain access to Spellhold.

As usual Nain used fake talk on the demon in the dream sequence to avoid losing any stats before uttering a sigh of relief as Bodhi dropped him nearby a bag of holding.  Azuredge cleared most of the first level while staking a vampire provided enough XP for level 22.  With the deathblow that provided Nain cleared up the yuan-ti, but the mages require greater deathblow.  However, his saving throws make him immune to their main weapon of chaos and he finished off 2 of the 3 with Azuredge before the final one got around to committing suicide by skull trap.

On the next level Nain didn't do everything, but collected enough tokens for Boots of the North and Grounding.  Stupidly though, he tried getting the latter when his inventory was full and the machine gave him back some tokens instead.  Oh well, he can buy some of those boots in Athkatla if he remembers.  Completing judgement got him to level 22 and he acquired a greater deathblow before using his silver tongue on Lonk.  For the fight with Jon Nain moved in with part of a FoA GWW before retreating and waiting for Jon to realise that he was already critically injured.  He then quickly ran away before the Murderers could arrive.

Nain took ship with Saemon and arrived 'safely' in the City of Caverns.  He collected the Cloak +2 and Cloak of Mirroring there without problems (though he had to use the FoA to convince the spectator to let him look in the chest), but left the rest of the rebels alone before killing the king and then the prince.

He learnt enough by descending into the Underdark to get to level 24 and he was soon GWWing a balor for the svirfneblin.  In the kuo-toa tunnels he just killed the demon knights with Azuredge and a couple of initial summons before leaving.  After carefully engaging the kuo-toa on the bridge a few at a time he used greater deathblow to kill the elder orb and its companion (level 25) before sneaking through to get the Greenstone Amulet.  He ignored the illithid city and went to talk to Adalon.

In the drow City Nain bought the Staff of Earth before agreeing to rescue Phaere.  On the way he used the efreeti to trigger the ambush and avoid the danger of N'ashtar sneaking up to use maze while misled.  He used greater deathblow and GWW to save Phaere, but that was only a temporary reprieve for her until Nain set a Demon Lord on her (level 26).  He then helped Adalon clear a few drow away from the Underdark exit and left invisibly.  After talking to Elhan he returned to Athkatla where he's just handed over the Silver Sword to Kruin.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 70{2} - (update 2)

St John, human berserker (Grond0) & Vargus, human kensai (Gate70)

After just escaping from the dungeon in their first session this duo made rather more progress today.  They didn't start too auspiciously when St John annoyed Aerie with his choice of conversation and she had to be put down.  However, they had no trouble in sorting out the circus, acquiring some plate armour from Officer Dirth and installing new management at the Copper Coronet.  They also went to the Graveyard to pick up the ioun stone from Pai'Na - St John's saves against poison are not great so being surrounded by a multitude of spiders was a potential problem, but only a couple of spiders managed to hit him and he saved against those to remain pretty unscathed.

The next problem occurred at Watcher's Keep when St John thought that his rage might allow vampiric wraiths to be tackled.  Vargus in fact did well there, with Azuredge killing both of them within a round.  However, they had already hit St John 3 times by then and after taking some mephit damage as well he had been running away when the second vampiric wraith died.  At that point he changed his mind and slipped into a side room instead with the intention of splitting the remaining attackers and allowing Vargus to take some of the punishment.  He didn't bargain on him being stunned by something though and quickly killed, but that did at least allow St John time to use Bhaal healing, DUHM and a fresh rage to finish off the remaining attackers (unless he is in a dire situation - and possibly not even then - St John won't use healing potions).  St John also took severe damage from one of the speedy golems while running that round waiting for Vargus to finish it off with Azuredge (St John had no weapon that could hurt it).

Back in Athkatla the duo rescued Renfeld and returned him.  After St John raged and attracted the attention of a couple of mages, Vargus slipped in behind and threw his axe until Prebek had suicided by lightning bolt and he was free to close on Sanasha.  That allowed the harper building to be looted and provided a bit of entertainment watching Xzar get assassinated.  The kidnappers were then tackled to provide the opportunity to collect a ransom (though they haven't got around to that yet).

Moving on to Trademeet the genies were their first victims, though they had a decent go at the fighters.  They then worked their way through the Grove without any alarms before offering Cernd a tasty snack.  Back in Trademeet they also cleared a local crypt before heading back to the city - where they will be hunting liches next time.

Stats:

St John, berserker 10, 100 HPs (incl. 5 from Helm), 310 kills

Vargus, kensai 10, 107 HPs (incl. 9 from ioun stone), 320 kills, 1 death

Nain{2} - dwarf kensai (update 4)

In Athkatla Nain picked up his stored equipment and forged the Wave.  In order to get Crom Faeyr he needed to kill Thaxy and went to the ruined temple.  A PfU scroll allowed him to stroll past the undead there (though he didn't bother killing them) and get the wardstone.  The XP for opening up Thaxy's lair took him to level 27 and he used a kai GWW to attack - 4 hits taking the dragon to badly wounded before it stoneskinned and a few more to near death as it buffeted him away and put up PFMW.  Nain came straight back in with another GWW and a right cross followed by a straight left put the dragon on the floor.  That didn't prevent it breathing and draining 8 levels from him though, but a moment later the air elemental put its lights out for good.

Back in Athkatla he forged Crom Faeyr, although he's unlikely to actually use that, before heading for the Graveyard.  He used invisibility to foil the initial vampire ambush and then Azuredge to clear the way in their HQ - getting to level 28 upstairs.  He tried a sunray on the Guard, but it foiled it with a spell immunity contingency and Nain just left it alone and went downstairs.  Azuredge and a couple of GWWs there (the first with greater deathblow) sorted out Bodhi and her crew there and taking the Lanthorn got him to level 29.

After remembering to buy some Boots of Grounding Nain returned to Elhan and moved on to Suldanesselar.  He used invisibility there to avoid most combats.  Nizi was one exception - Nain's summons quickly died there, but his GWWs proved more effective than the dragon's claws in a melee contest. Releasing the Avatar took Nain to level 30 before he moved on to the Tree of Life.  After killing the parasites Nain watched Jon waste his spells on summons before sending him on his way with Azuredge.

In hell Nain this time picked up Blackrazor, to make his bonuses immunity to +1 weapons, -2 to AC, +15 HPs, +20% elemental resistance and +3 strength.  His change to evil alignment meant he could no longer use Azuredge, so he ran round using a couple of GWWs with his non-proficient dwarven hammer to kill the demons.  To avoid the danger of maze he made use of the Staff of Fire for the first time to keep summons up.  His last elemental was dominated, but by that stage the Slayer was already badly wounded and it was finished off with a GWW before it could take another action.
