Bob the Biffer II (update 1 - Mae'Var)
Everyone seems to have overtaken me as I have spent the weekend in real life adventures.
Actually RL is more rewarding. ![]()
To my usual set-up, I have added Deeper Shadows of Amn and some evil NPC mods since those Gnasty Gnomes can't stand all those do-gooders.
Hope that I haven't made the game TOO difficult with DSoA. ![]()
The Gnasty Gnomes In Amn
Got out of Irenicus' Dungeon intact but immediately had to spend gold as a wraith had level drained little bully. ![]()
Used some do-gooders as porters, but as soon as I was out I got rid of them!

I think it is because I have been away for 3 days and I have been reading up all the posts that I have missed.
Arcadia, Half-Elven, Fighter/Mage: Windspear Hills
Arcadia and I usually get along. Not today: I'm on her bad side. Arcadia has completed the Windspear Hills quest, but it ended up being her most challenging quest to date, due entirely to an early oversight and a later misstep, both on my part. I'm now in the dog house- especially with the cat.
The oversight occurred in the battle with Ruhk Transmuter. SCS does a nice job of sprucing up most critters, but especially Rhakshasas. And among Rhakshasas, Ruhk benefits more than any other. He's a far more worthy foe.
The battle went smoothly at first. Arcadia buffed, broke invisibility, and initiated combat near Ruhk. The kamikaze kolbolds imploded and pro-fire Arcadia was left unharmed, while Ruhk was left questioning his battle plan. Predictably, Ruhk recovered by firing his buffs, vanishing, and healing.
Fighting toe-to-toe, Arcadia had a clear advantage: with her initial AC buffs running, Ruhk could only land on criticals. And with Arcadia's ProNW in reserve, she could count on over twenty rounds of effective immunity from Ruhks attacks. A pre-buff SI:A and a reserve SI:A insured those protections would remain in place. Nonetheless, Ruhk's plentiful Stoneskins and healing kept him in the action long enough for Arcadia's illusion based save buffs to expire.
With the Claw equipped and Spirit Armor active, Arcadia's save v spells remains negative even without her illusionary save buffs. Save v death is a vulnerability, however, and Arcadia is a half-elf, not an elf. That leaves her potentially vulnerable to Stinking Cloud. Ruhk recognized his window and pulled a Web + Stinking Cloud sequencer. Fortunately, Arcadia picked up on the threat quickly enough to quaff a Potion of Stone Form and equip the Spear of the Unicorn, but she was none-too-happy with me for putting her in that situation. Lesson learned: I'll be a bit more conscientious about covering that vulnerability going forward.

The next dicey moment came in the undead area. Turning the corner, Arcadia spied a crew of ancient and elder vampires. Despite having a Pro Undead scroll in reserve, the plan had been to take them down in straight melee, in part because it would expedite the process. Ancient and elder vampires regenerate quickly and stay on the move when faced with a pro-undead foe: finishing them under pro undead can be tricky, even if it isn't dangerous. Unfortunately, the vamps detected Arcadia while she was pre-buffing, despite the fact that she wasn't within their apparent line of sight. The vamps charged. Unbuffed and with her aura clouded, Arcadia was a perfect target for Cloud of Bats. The vamps freed their bats. Arcadia ran.

Unbuffed, pursued by vampires and bats, Arcadia fled. She activated her Pro Undead scroll as soon as she could, but the bats had already honed in on her. The bats hurt, causing more damage than anything else Arcadia has faced. After healing her wounds, she shot me an evil eye, and then finished the vamps with Sunfires and melee, choosing Ages for the slow effect.
The rest of the quest went smoothly. The greater wolfweres were a standard buff n' beat mission, with a VT mixed in.

Same with Tazok.

The most interesting battle, of course, was with Conster.
Conster
Arcadia felt more confident against Conster than she did against Gethras. That allowed her to be more aggressive and therefore economical. While the battle with Gethras had consumed a Potion of Invisibility and three dispelling arrows, the Conster fight was finished using renewable spells and weapons.
Arcadia's pre-buffs were Spell Deflection, Spirit Armor, Protection from Cold, Protection from Fire, Protection from Evil, Blur, Mirror Image, Improved Invisibility, Spell Immunity: Abjuration, Spell Immunity: Divination. She kept a MGOI and a charged Ring of Air Control in reserve to protect against late battle Stinking Clouds. An opening Dart of Stunning failed to stick. But when Conster opened with Protection from Magic Weapons, rather than a Mantle, Arcadia, confident in her buffs, saw an early opportunity to go on the offensive with unenchanted darts (unenchanted darts are my preferred weapon for peeling Stoneskins, since they have a base APR of 3 and unlike Tuigan can be wielded with Harmony or the Reflex in the offhand).

Like his predecessor, Ruhk, Conster tried a Stinking Cloud. Unlike Ruhk, however, Conster launched before Arcadia's illusionary buffs had expired. Bad move: Conster had wasted his most promising tactical tool.
Conster brought a Mordy Sword into play, but Arcadia's darts started getting through just in time to foil his Wilting.

Injured, Conster was put on the defensive. He erected Stoneskins + ProMW, but without any promising avenues of attack -and with Arcadia's darts pecking away at his skins- he had no hope of victory. He was finished with acid arrows. Taar was freed.

After completing the main quest, Arcadia collected Dragonslayer. She then headed to the Promenade to pick up a Phantom Blade scroll from Jayes. Bodhi's lair is Arcadia's next target.
Best,

Nice work, Grond0! Bob should reach the Throne by dinner time at this rate.

Arcadia, Half-Elven Fighter/Mage: Bodhi's Lair
Time for some super-quick coverage of Bodhi's lair. Not Bob the Biffer quick -not one screenie and done- but close. Fast. Like Chiktikka
Approaching HLA land and equipped with a Phantom Blade, Arcadia felt ready to take on Bodhi's Guild. Lassal concurred.

Punked Gravy, collected his skifty potions, and then headed to the Graveyard District.
Phantom Blades are awesome against undead. You know what they are against Clay Golems? Not awesome- especially if you neglected to memorize Melf's Minute Meteors.

Cassius didn't have the THAC0 to hit Arcadia though so she just went about her chores and ignored him. Doot-ta-doo...

Eventually Phantom Blade expired and the golem got Ages.
Lassal challenged Arcadia to meet him in the room of Where-Overconfident-Vampires-Get-Totally-Chunked. Arcadia asked if he was sure he wanted to meet there. He replied "Muhaha! I'm the most powerful vampire ever and I will destroy you all!" Arcadia said, "Actually, it's just me- there's no one else to destroy. And it sounds like we picked the right room. See you there."
But first: It's Tanova! That's your cue, Dionne Warwick: Sing it!

Lassal definitely picked the right room.

Time for Bodhi. Girl couldn't hit. And I don't mean Arcadia.

Arcadia will leave for Spellhold soon.
Best,
A.

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 73 - (update 7)
Eyesore, gnome illusionist (Grond0) & Danya, elf fighter/mage (Gate70)
We squeezed in a short session last night to allow this run to progress a bit further into ToB.
First up was the second pocket plane challenge. The main threat there was from the PC clone, so an immediate all-out attack on him was launched. This pair have better defences than attacks though and the clone survived long enough to start buffing. The assault continued though and eventually he fell before he was ready to move into attack mode.
There was nothing of interest in Amkethran so they just talked to Balthazar and went to find a dragon or two. First though there was a brief stop at the Oasis - once again there was a slight lack of punch there as Jamis survived a joint attack long enough to send Danya running to get a fresh stoneskin before rejoining the battle to finish him off.
Arriving at Abazigal's Lair the pair started in on Draconis. His human form had nothing to hurt Eyesore so the opening phase was just a question of working through his defences. In dragon shape he was potentially dangerous in melee, but a planetar did a superb job on him - a scripted heal allowing it to occupy Draconis long enough to take him to the verge of death - and Danya ensured there would be no way back.
In the tunnels Eyesore had already protected Danya from fire, so intended to burn some frost salamanders up in an incendiary cloud. Unfortunately it seemed that Danya's intended protection from cold spell had duplicated her existing fire protection. We might have expected that to quickly become obvious, but lag effects stored up all the frost shield damage - taking Danya from 80-90 HPs to death in the blink of an eye.
After another outing for the rod of resurrection the duo moved on through the tunnels to find Bondari. Eyesore was out of invisibilities there, but was immune to spell damage anyway so just ran through various eyes. On my screen I couldn't see any scorchers active, but they were present on Gate70's screen and the effects could be seen as Bondari and his pals collapsed into rubble! We did have a couple of gos at nipping in to the elder orb area to see if we could kill them, but were nervous about whether they cast imprisonment and didn't stay long. In the end we gave up on them and just collected the eyestalk from a dead gauth. After handing that over the duo will be ready next time to add to their dragon scalps.
Stats:
Eyesore, illusionist 24, 83 HPs (incl. 7 from ioun stone), 541 kills
Danya, fighter 18 / mage 17, 129 HPs, 850 kills, 5 deaths

Don't think that is possible. ![]()
