Sorry to see that Grond0.
I know how dangerous making assumptions or actions based on a previous setup can be dangerous.
Alesia, I like your run with Aphril and Adara, and would be sad to see them retired. It's the first time I see you work with a party.
Otoh I'd understand it if you took a break. I've been close to doing the same (though now I'm all enthusiastic about Dagny).

Nice episode BR! But I see you are still worrying (too much?) about your companions while everything depends on your pc not dying. For example, casting invisibility on your held companions, having a muddy aura for 2 rounds, worked out this time but could be an absolute fatal mistake in the later stages of the game, please be carefull!, I like your lass.
Cheers!

Dyara, elven Fighter/Mage/Thief, take 14 (update 2)
Installation and first steps
Update 1 (Irenicus Prison Level 1+2)
After selling some of the stuff they had taken from the dungeon Dyara and her companions started to explore their surroundings. Athkatla, the capital city of Amn, seemed to be much larger than Baldur's Gate - at least Dyara thought the city much more confusing as there were so many things to see, so many people to speak to, so many places to go to... there was even a circus and as Dyara had never been in a circus before the party decided to pay it a visite... unfortunately there was no show today but ordinary evil butt kicking...
Once the circus problems were settled the party headed into the slums and as soon as they arrived there they were approached by Gaylen Bayle and to cut a long story short, for 20,000 gold he (and his 'organization' of 'powerful friends') would find both Imoen and Irenicus. To raise so much coin he suggested finding some work within the city or outside.
After the meeting with Bayle the party went to the Copper Coronet where Aerie got replaced with Nalia and also Anomen joined the group...
Later then Dyara joined Amalas in the fighting pit...
Since the party had agreed to help Nalia they set out for the de'Arnise keep outside of Athkatla but were attacked by some slavers before even reaching the city gates...
They left the city then but again their journey became interrupted as they had to fight some thugs who had poisoned a guy named Renfeld...
Taking Renfeld back to Athkatla then ended the party's first countryside excursion. At the city gates the party became involved in a brawl between some thieves and a vampire nearly putting Dyara's level back to where she had started (also she got warning by a cowled wizard for casting mirror image)...
Unfortunately when looking for an inn to rest Jaheira became cursed by Baron Ployer. It wasn't much of a problem to track down Ployer and kill both him and some mages...
... but (even more) unfortunately Dyara had bolstered her companion's courage slightly too intensive before entering Ployer's home so a group of Cowled Wizards was waiting outside...
Dyara then learned that fighting some Cowled Wizards doesn't lift the ban of magic thus when using a fireball scroll even more Cowled Wizards appeared. At first there was some bickering among the wizards...
... and Dyara was able to use this for another kill...
... but then she became paralyzed forcing her companions to leave the safety of Ployer's home and join the fight (perhaps that hadn't been necessary as Dyara had been in the visual range of only one wizard and that one was out of spells already - but one's always wiser after the disintegration ...
In any case the remaining Cowled Wizards were killed (I guess, not sure neither how many were killed nor how many had been there - perhaps Dyara's in for some surprises when walking about the slums)...
The restauration of Dyara's level and the Minsc's resurrection had taken its toll on the party's asset leaving the group with less than they had when they arrived at Waukeen's Promenade yesterday. Dyara became very desperate realizing that they probably would never raise the 20,000 gold. She even tried to lower the price but to no avail...

@Golden, you're right again. I know I find it very hard not to intervene with Dagny when her comrades are in trouble. Hopefully I can prevent these types of situations as much as possible... ![]()
@Dyara, nice start in Athkatla. Good of you to teach the Cowled ones a lesson. I don't know how hard the vanilla versions are, but PW Stun(?) and Disintegrate are nasty spells for an early SoA party. As you may have read I completely chickened out when facing the SCS Enforcers haha.

@Dyara, nice start in Athkatla.
Not really
.. in fact Dyara fells a little bit lost in Athkatla
. Funny actually as I had played BG2 much, much more than I had played BG1. On the other hand before starting BG1 noreload playthroughs I practiced a little bit while this is my first (try of a) BG2 playthrough after ~14 years.
Good of you to teach the Cowled ones a lesson.
Wasn't planned, just an oversight...
I don't know how hard the vanilla versions are, but PW Stun(?) and Disintegrate are nasty spells for an early SoA party. As you may have read I completely chickened out when facing the SCS Enforcers haha.
No idea how strong they are... I had tried to avoid their spells
. I remember fighting them once but much later in the game.
@Grond: Damn... so that's why Dyara couldn't find Dylan in the CC

Gate70/Grond0 multiplayer attempt 81 - (1st and final update)
Drizzl, human blackguard (Grond0) & Mhae, human cavalier (Gate70)
After completing their work in BG1 this pairing moved straight on to BG2. The blackguard is a particularly vicious kit and things looked set for a long run until Drizzl brought a premature end to their hopes ...
They started by clearing out the dungeon. Blackguard poison does not affect undead, but absorb health does and Drizzl was watching carefully to judge when to use that on Ulvaryl - until Mhae chopped her in half!
They restored the Circus and sorted out Suna Seni on the way to Watcher's Keep to get a potion case. The next item on the agenda was some improved armour and Officer Dirth provided Mhae with some of that. By that stage Renfeld had been rescued and Drizzl used sanctuary to get into Prebek's house to make poisoning him and Sanasha easy (blackguard poison ignoring stoneskins) as a prelude to looting the harpers.
Sanctuary was also used to get a statuette from the Lathander temple for Mae'Var. Rayic Gethras found that PfMW was no defence against poisoned fists
and the rest of Mae'Var's tasks were quickly completed. Drizzl was out of poisons by then, but the duo invaded the thieves guild anyway and cleared it easily enough.
After paying Gaelan Bayle the next target was de'Arnise Hold. Part of the reason for that was to get an armour upgrade for Drizzl as well, but Glaicas gave himself up and ran away before he could be killed. Carrying on with minimal resting the duo made their way to the golems. Mhae found the iron golem hard going and was forced to retreat as Drizzl got a final blow in.
Without resting Drizzl did a bit more exploring and came across a giant troll. That was hitting her pretty easily and made her turn and run just as it was finally brought down.
Downstairs Mhae was surprisingly not confused at all by the umber hulks as Drizzl supported with poisoned arrows.
TorGal was fought along with his giant troll guards, but they had much more of a problem hitting Mhae than Drizzl and the fight was pretty easy.
Drizzl accepted the stronghold.
Back in Athkatla Drizzl did get his armour upgrade from Mencar, although not without a struggle. On first contact with the group Gate70's screen froze and by the time Mhae could move she was down to single figure HPs. However, she was able to run downstairs and provide support as Drizzl finished poisoning Mencar and Smaeluv who had followed. After healing a bit the duo went back up to find the mage and Brennan Riesling. Fortunately Brennan's script only looked at his own damage and he didn't try to run until after all his friends were dead and he was severely injured - poison finished him off before he'd taken a step.
There was more easy work in the temple sewers, though Tarnor's gang were left for now. Mhae was finally confused by a yuan-ti mage there, but with her good AC and with Drizzl shooting poisoned arrows was never in danger.
Opening up the lich there we remarked on the unusual luxury of having 2 characters immune to level drain (Drizzl innately and Mhae via AoP), which made the vampiric mists (and the trap) no threat.
Drizzl tried to get a job from Sir Ryan Trawl, but was told her poor reputation (9) preceded her. Moving on to the Bridge District anyway Mhae went to solve the Skinner murders, while Drizzl as the 'intelligent' one (all of 11) went to pick up the berserker horn. Moving on autopilot Drizzl opened up a trapped chest and the game ending screen started playing - Mhae's shouts from outside as to what on earth was Drizzl doing being met by a stony silence

Aphril, Elven Sorcerer: Early Adventures in Athkatla
Ok. Aphril and Adara have gotten underway in Amn. I'm still not sure whether I'll see this run through, but I thought I should post on whatever Aphril does accomplish. Don't be surprised if she and I mysteriously vanish. I intend to travel soon and I have stuff to get done before that can happen. I'm not sure I'll have time to finish a full run. We'll see.
So: the Chateau. Aphril's plan in the Chateau was simple: get out. I can't say I blame her. I tend to take the same approach when confined in torture chambers. Getting the rock out made double sense in Aphril's case, since she and Adara still lack the spells to execute their BG2 strategy. It made triple sense since they're playing on insane.
After recruiting Jaheria, Imoen, and Minsc, the party rested. Invisibility and stealth got the party to the Sewage Golem. Imoen's sticky fingers secured the key.
Minsc cleared the way to Ellesime's room by taunting and then chunking the path blocking dwarf. Imoen disarmed the traps.
On the second floor, the party recruited Yoshimo to execute a chunk-stab on the radiant mephit portal. The party was then free to destroy the remaining portals at their leisure. Minsc and Yoshi took some damage, here mostly because I didn't bother to have Adara cast Pro Fire on them. They'll be leaving soon anyways and they can take it.
After Yoshimo cleared the steam trap and claimed the RoP, the party snuck to the surface. Yoshimo, Jaheira, and Minsc were all released.
Following a rest at the Den of Seven Vales, Aphril and Adara paid a visit to the circus. Solving the riddle earned both of our heroines a crucial level up. At this point, their spell books were:
Aphril: L1- Blindness, Shield, Magic Missile, Chromatic Orb, Protection from Evil; L2- Invisibility, Mirror Image, Blur, Melf's Acid Arrow; L3- Melf's Minute Meteors, Skull Trap, Remove Magic; L4- Stoneskins, Improved Invisibility
Adara: L1- Blindness, Shield, Magic Missile, Chromatic Orb, Protection from Evil; L2- Invisibility, Mirror Image, Blur, Glitterdust; L3- Skull Trap, Protection from Fire, Melf's Minute Meteors; L4- Stoneskins, Teleport Field
The spells they'll need are coming into place. Aphril's and Adara strategy throughout BG2 will be to use Telport Fields to foil melee attacks while blindness spells handle ranged threats. Casters will find themselves buff stumped and outgunned. Aphril and Adara will frustrate a lot of foes. Eventually. They're still a few spells short of making their plan work. Fortunately, there isn't much in early SoA that Skull Traps and MMMs can't handle.
Even Magic Missles will do sometimes.
Adding Aerie to the team will grant Aphril and Adara additional flexibility. At times she'll take the lead, as she did here: finishing Corvhale with a Holy Smite and then executing Hold->Polymorph Self: Spider on Bregg.
Aerie held her own in the first half of the slaver quest as well: loading critters up with poison as they enter the Teleport Field, and later casting Protection from Normal Missiles to thwart ranged fire.

Following part 1 of the slaver quest, Aphril and Adara visited the government district and paid the Cowleds. They then solved the Skinner Murders before heading to the Promenade to pick up the Reflex for Aerie. Ambushing Shadow thieves were tagged with Glitterdust and then punked as the swirled helplessly around the telefield. Slaver Quest part 2 will be next.
Best,
A.

Dagny, Gnome Cleric/Illusionist (2nd & final SoA update)
Lack of familiarity with the Tactics components ended Dagny's run. Therefore I'm not pissed off or disappointed with myself (as I sometimes am). Besides there were many apparent bugs or glitches: a dialogue loop with Jaheira which made me decide to ditch her, half the Athkatlan community looked dark brown as if Barkskinned, I couldn't use Raise Dead scrolls to raise Anomen (had to use the Rod of Resurrection), and most annoyingly there was about zero intra-party banter.
I also dislike the Tactics random abushes. They happened way too often for my liking, so often that any sane Charname would say "F*ck it, I'm going back to Baldur's Gate and raise the money for Imoen there." Their repetitiveness is also off-putting.
Anyway Dagny's crew did rather well in yesterday's session and a short session this morning. They had to give their all on the roof of the Copper Coronet when one of the Tactics ambushes occurred. Maybe it were two ambushes even, because at the end the party counted 12 corpses: four casters, the others fighters and assassins. We had Irenicus' wands, which made a huge difference: Monster Summoning, Fire, Heavens were all used. Several Spooks were also effective crowd controllers. This was important because the party was still quite low level, so their buffs were few and brief.
Nalia's Hold was successfully negotiated in two instances. Fighting a few Trolls at a time was doable for Anomen, even the Spirit variants. The others could do little against them, except Aerie who as a Bard was the only one that could use the Tuigan Bow (Nalia's dual wasn't completed yet.) Aerie would finish the Trolls with acid arrows, even though she wasn't proficient in bows.
The Yuan-Ti Mage fled to the roof when Dagny dropped a Cloudkill in the library, so they didn't have to fight it. Glaicus had the upper hand against Anomen but Jan, who was using the Light Crossbow of Speed, stunned him with his Bruisers.
The Skinner murder mystery was solved. Anomen swigged a potion of freedom because of the Ghasts and, dualwielding FoA and DoE, he defeated the Bone Golem and the Rune Assassins.
The Thief Guild quests were done this morning. Anomen had more problems with Rayic Gethras' Mephits than with the Golems. Jan set three traps and summoned 3x3 Hobgoblin archers for Rayic Gethras himself to waste his spells on. One of those spells was a Fireball with which he killed himself.
Anomen's attempt at casting Chaotic Commands was thwarted by one of the enemies. Their priest summoned an Aerial Servant (very difficult to deal with, at least the aTweaks version: they hit hard, entangle and go invisible at will), and Mage PW:Stunned Anomen. He fell soon after, and I realized that it was a shame that the only character that could dish out good physical damage, was also one of the most vulnerable characters. He fell soon after.
With Renal Bloodscalp's permission the party then proceeded to assault MaeVar's Guild. Anomen did most of the work upstairs, helped with a few Chaoses from Dagny and Jan. The arcane casters buffed extensively: Stoneskins already in place, Chaotic Commands (Dagny), Shield, Blur, Mirror Image, MSD, Improved Invisibility, and Spell Immunity, although the casting of the latter spell was messed up as I had the game paused and had various characters cast it, causing the school selection option to be lost. Anomen buffed with Chaotic Commands, and the holy triad of HP, DUHM and RM. Downstairs, Jan dropped a Teleport Field, and Dagny a Cloudkill.
MaeVar's buffs couldn't be dispelled with Dispel/Remove Magic because he had a MGoI up, and the companions saw a number of their castings sizzle out due to MaeVar's quaffing of invisibility potions. Jan's Detect Illusions and a Breach by Dagny evenually exposed him.
After a rest and after having received their reward from Renal Bloodscalp, the crew set out to report Anomen's sister's death to the authorities when the umpteenth Tactic ambush occurred. The party was invisible, so I considered simply leaving (as I had done before with these ambushes). But I decided to test the skills of my team. With the same buffs as in the MaeVar battle, except that Spell Immunity was properly cast this time, we had little difficulty with the enemy even though a priest's Cloak of Fear scared Anomen.

Condolences, Blackraven. Stumbling into the Lich-in-the-Docks encounter at low levels is certain death.
Tactics was a ground breaking mod and we all owe a debt of gratitude to its creators.
That said, it's terribly dated now in my opinion: it's glitchy, heavy handed, and unevenly balanced. I don't see much reason to use it these days other than as an exploration of BG gaming history. I definitely wouldn't use it in the No Reload Challenge
SCS has integrated and cleaned up the best parts of tactics (Faldorn, De'Arnise, Bodhi, Irenicus). I think it makes more sense to use David's versions and set the rest aside.
Anyhoo, best of luck with your next run!

A.

Aphril, Elven Sorcerer: The Slaver Compound
Just tacking on the Slaver Compound. This was straight forward. Aphril, Adara, and Aerie still haven't taken any injuries.
The plan here was to buff, insta-kill the Priest of Cyric, fire up a Teleport Field, and then punk the slavers with Skull Traps, Holy Smites, Meteors, and Magic Missles. That worked.
The trio entered the ship buffed and invisible. Aerie, who was carrying the Reflex, was the first to break. She went with a Sunfire. Follow up MMs from Aphril and Adara finished the Priest of Cyric.
Note that Adara and Aphril are running Protection from Normal Missiles cast by Aerie. Everyone is running Pro Fire cast by Adara and Improved Invisibility cast by Aphril. Aerie, who was the only one close enough to the Priest of Cyric to be in GC range was running CC.
Haegan bounced a few axes off the Reflex before catching a pair of Skull Traps. Magic Missiles finished him.
Smites, Meteors, and MMs took care of the rest. The trolls were killed with Skull Traps and MMMs, also in a Teleport Field.
Everyone took a level up after reporting to Hendak. Aphril selected Spell Immunity, Adara Sunfire.
I'm not sure what's next. I'd like to add Nalia to the team, but I don't think we're ready for Torgal. Trademeet and the Umar Hills appeal.
Best,
A.

Aphril, Elven Sorcerer: The Sewers Party
Having been flagged down by Quayle's messenger, the party visited Raelis Shai. That led them to the sewers.
The plan had been to stealth by Draug Fea and Co. But when Gaius had the audacity to cast a divination spell, forcing the party to withdraw and fight kobolds unprepared...
it was clear that he and all his friends had to die.
Since the party still doesn't have the spell slots for comprehensive spell defenses, Gaius, Rengaard and Zorl would all have to be taken down quick. Triple Potions of Firebreath, initially targeted on Gaius, removed the arcane threat and did heavy damage to the divine casters.
Follow up MMMs killed the priests.
With naught but physical weapons on the field and with the Reflex, Pro NM, Blindness spells and Teleport Fields at the ready, the battle had essentially been won. Here we see Aerie popping off a Sunfire while Adara preps the Telefield.
Magic Missiles and MMMs finished the job- or very nearly finished the job. Draug Fea escaped death by level 1 spell only to be swept over the wall into mindflayer land. Have fun with that, Draug Fea!
Best,
A.

Quick Note on Aphril's Game:
The party suffered its first damage recently due to a bug. I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this before.
In the orog slaver ambush Aerie and Adara broke invisibility with simultaneous Sunfires. The Sunfires wiped out most of their foes, but the slaver wizard, who was only running MGoI, was unaffected. The battle record read Spell Ineffective. Of course Sunfire, which is a L5 spell, should get over the top of MGoI.
That bug permitted the slaver mage to stay alive long enough to dispel Aerie's buffs and hit her with a Melf's Minute Meteor. Aerie doesn't like getting hurt.
Checking the Sunfire resource revealed the issue. The L10 Sunfire has the wrong power level.
Here you can see the low level Sunfire, correctly set at power level 5.
The L10 Sunfire, however, is set at 3.
The L11 Sunfire is partially set at 6 (one of the two damage effects).
The rest are correctly set at 5.
Has anyone else encountered this? Could someone do me the favor of checking their Sunfire resource files?
Best,
A.
