Hey Alesia, I just checked. I have three Sunfire .SPL files. The level 10 versions all have power level 3 for either damage type.

It's the same with BG2EE. I also have a 'RR#WI523' sunfire but it also has the bug.

OK, it's logged for BGII:EE.

Btw. Did anyone ever submit the Sphere of Chaos issue that Serg noticed? The disintegration effect bypassing magic resistance?

I've logged it for BGII:EE today but my test case won't work for the original game.

@Golden, I was very surprised. The party was in no condition to take on the Lich. I also wanted Dagny to go far, and I still want her to. I started a new game with her, :) in a new setup (no Tactics, more banter)

Aphril, Elven Sorcerer: Trademeet

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%2012.40.

After attending to some minor tasks in Athkatla, and negotiating an ambush that forced Aerie to suffer the indignity of damage....

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-05%20at%2010.04.

Aphril, Adara and Aerie headed to Trademeet seeking respite and a chance at heroism. They found both.

Feeling let down by spells due to her traumatizing experience with a buggy Sunfire, Aerie decided to try her hand at melee fighting. She did reasonably well, although she knew she could do better.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%201.19.0

With spirit trolls on the horizon -and no MGoIs to be found- the party reverted to its standard tactics in its next encounter. Once again, a Teleport Field lit up with Sunfires and Holy Smites won the day.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%201.25.3

The spiders, with their low speed factors and ranged webs, were poor candidates for Teleport Field based combat. Lobbed Skull Traps from Adara and Aphril softened the opposition. Holy Smites Aerie finished them. The potentially dangerous phase spider was blinded.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%201.37.4

The denizens of the troll mound were blasted in a Telefield. Sunfires and Holy Smites did the heavy lifting.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%201.56.5

Perimeter Skull Traps dealt additional damage.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%201.59.4

MMMs for the finish.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%202.02.4

Aerie, who is surprisingly competitive when it comes to melee fighting, decided that she wanted to throw down again. This time she didn't pull her punches. Aerie has heard that in parallel universes parties use Korgan, or some other fool, to defend her because she is too "squishy" for combat. Aerie doesn't get it. And neither do I. Korgan is a dwarven berseker. That's it: a dwarven berserker. Aerie is a freight train, loaded with granite, driven by Cris Cyborg on steroids and bath salts. Choo-Choo! And growl!

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%202.15.0

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%202.15.2

After stealthing through the rest of the grove the party rendezvoused with Cernd. Reluctantly, Aerie deferred to druidic custom and let Cernd pit fight Faldorn. Buffs tossed by he party- including a Champion's Strength from Aerie and an Improved Invisibility from Aphril- assured that Cernd would prevail without injuries.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%209.33.3

Khan Zhara was killed with Sunfires and Meteors. Mission complete.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%2012.13.

Aphril and Adara leveled up at the end of the quest. Updated spellbooks appear below.

Best,

A.

Aphril: L1- Blindness, Shield, Magic Missile, Chromatic Orb, Protection from Evil; L2- Invisibility, Mirror Image, Blur, Melf's Acid Arrow, Resist Fear; L3- Melf's Minute Meteors, Skull Trap, Remove Magic, Spell Thrust; L4- Stoneskins, Improved Invisibility, Teleport Field; L5- Spell Immunity, Sunfire

Adara: L1- Blindness, Shield, Magic Missile, Chromatic Orb, Protection from Evil; L2- Invisibility, Mirror Image, Blur, Glitterdust, Melf's Acid Arrow; L3- Skull Trap, Protection from Fire, Melf's Minute Meteors, Protection from Cold; L4- Stoneskins, Teleport Field, Improved Invisibility; L5- Sunfire, Spell Immunity

Nice work Alesia :)
I also like to see and use Cleric/Mages as warriors (both for tanking and damage dealing purposes). I see Aerie had 3 APR in that screenshot. One of those extra attacks is thanks to Haste, the other one due to dual-wielding I assume. What weapons is she using?

Dual-wielding? Aerie doesn't dual wield. Aerie says dual wielding is for weak-willed barbarians and other push-overs. Aerie rolls with a two-hander.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%2012.40.

(Polymorph Self: Flind creates a 1d10+1 +1 fire Halberd that strikes as a +3 enchanted weapon. It confers undispellable Haste while equipped. Due to the large die, it works nicely with Righteous Magic. The extra attack comes from Flind form.)

Aphril, Elven Sorcerer: Minor Encounters in and Around Athkatla

I got a mini session in with Aphril this afternoon. She completed the Hero of Trademeet quests and then finished some errands in Athkatla.

The Trademeet crypt skeleton warriors were defeated by Aerie, supported by AoE fire from Aphril and Adara.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%202.31.5

The Crypt King received the same.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%203.32.2

Ambushing bandits got the burning Teleport Field treatment. Adara's election of Protection from Fire has proven worthwhile.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%203.16.1

Into the crypts, Aerie played thief...

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%203.53.0

then arsonist...

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%203.58.3

then warrior. That seemingly dumbfounded sword spider on the left had been blinded.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%204.02.4

The Boots of Avoidance didn't help Reti, since MMMs bypass missile weapon AC adjustments. Nothing could help Camitis, blinded in a Teleport Field.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%205.03.1

These bandits never learn...

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%204.54.5

Aphril, Adara, and Aerie are now ready to leave Athkatla once more. Their destination is the Umar Hills.

Aphril, Elven Sorcerer: The Umar Hills

Aphril, Adara, and Aerie have seen the light. And so has Minister Lloyd. Dawn has returned to the Umar Hills. Amen.

The party was ambushed once again en route to Imnesvale. This didn't work out well for the ambushers.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%205.51.0

Aerie led the way in the temple ruins. As per usual, she emerged unscathed.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%206.15.4

Sunfires and Melf's Minute Meteors cleared the path to the spirits near Amauna's tomb. But by the time the party reached the second skeleton warrior crew, Aerie was out of spells. The sorcerers were nearly tapped, too. Teleport Field -which, as a reminder, ignores magic resistance- held the skelly at bay while Aerie vanished.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%206.52.1

The last of Aphril's meteors finished the skelly.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%206.52.5

The party breathed a sigh of relief, but the break would be short lived: a bone golem appeared. Low on meteors -and with Aerie not ready for combat- the party vanished and withdrew.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%206.55.0

After a spell book replenishing nap, the party re-engaged. The bone golem was no match for a full buffed Aerie. Does anyone want to guess which NPC gets my vote for best tank on insane?

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%207.03.2

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%207.04.0

The final skeleton warrior crew split up, to the party's disappointment. No mater. Aphril and Adara took down skelly one with Sunfires...

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%207.48.4

while Aerie engaged the shadow fiends and skelly two.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%207.48.3

All together for the finish.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%207.49.1

Still lacking NPP and some all important mid level spells, Aerie, Aphril, and Adara went with Pro Undead against the Shade Lord. A sunstone bullet insta-killed the altar. Meteors and Sunfires ended the Shade Lord.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-06%20at%208.13.0

Triumph. But the quest ended on a bitter sweet note when Aerie was forced to relinquish the Duskblade. If there's one thing Aerie likes, it's a good halberd.

I'm not sure what's next, but I'm thinking De'Arnise. Magic damage is still a problem: we need quests with no casters or low level casters.

Best,

A.

Btw. Character records and inventories for the curious.

Aerie has taken the kill lead from Adara. Aphril, who lacks Aerie's melee prowess, and who got Sunfire late, trails far behind her peers. That will change.

The inventories need some work. Aphril's is closest to completion.

Ruzzel and his band of mages, thief/mage and berserker update:

So Ruzzel and gang arrived at the Woodcutter's Glade - we confronted him about the grave site, and a battle ensued. A bit of a problem though - I took this FAR too non-chalantly. No buffs (other than stoneskin), no summons and no traps. Woodcutter and team did a fantastic showing - they killed everyone but Ruzzel and Tank! A lot of the party got stunned, which is how they died, but that didn't have to happen at all. Got to be more careful.

Baldr374_zpspqes9bci.png

We did not make the same mistake vs. Draconis. We did lay traps, we did buff, and we did bring summons to assist. It took a while, but AI script and summons were able to force Draconis to dragon form.

Spoiler

Then I turned off the AI and ran the party back to the entrance to the area, where our traps were. Draconis obliged, tripped the traps, but the battle looked like it might continue - but no, after just one more round of spells the traps finally finished him.

Spoiler

We will probably finish off Abazigal's lair next session.

It's hard not to notice when SCS mages are pelting your Cloak of Displacement + Boots of Avoidance + Claw of the Kazrgaroth + Shield + Reflection Shield warrior.

The physical damage type on MMMs is piercing, not missile. The Girdle of Piercing helps.

@Blackraven. While typically of limited use, the ogre form is worth considering with a C/M. The Polymorph Self ogre morning star is a +1 enchanted weapon that deals 4d6 damage. Under Righteous Magic and DUHM it hurts. This hit on Officer Dirth was not a critical. Aerie's strength was at 24 here and she wasn't Tensered so she has room for improvement.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-07%20at%203.06.3

The APR in ogre form is 2.

Alesia, thanks for the tip. I shall take Polymorph Self into account. In my previous run I had Anomen as my main damage dealer but that was because I didn't dare to use Polymorph Self. (Really hadn't properly investigated the details of  that spell, even though I know that you were once quite successful with a Polymorph-based Transmuter).

Detailed coverage of your current run would definitely be of interest to me. I wouldn't enjoy my new arcane party if they became a copy of yours in terms of battle strategies (prefer finding things out by myself even if it's the hard way), so I'm not likely to try and emulate all your tactics. But there's a lot I'd learn from such posts, and picking up a few things from the expert wouldn't hurt. :) The Polymorphs are an example.

Corey, don't lose your focus now! Glad that things didn't go south for Ruzzel there...

Ruzzel has defeated Abazigal - Sendai's enclave is next While we tried lots of spells and had various summons helping, what finished him was Stealer's traps she had set by the entrance. For the Water Elementals we used cloudkills from out of sight.

Aphril, Elven Sorcerer: Mae'Var's Guild Hall

Well heeled and high on life following their triumph in the Umar Hills, Aphril, Adara, and Aerie returned to Athkatla looking to celebrate. They enjoyed some spiced wine at the Flagons, some shopping in the Promenade, and then a little killing.

Every party should end with a little killing- at least in Athkatla.

Some comments on gear. Paying Gaelen brought the RoP+2 and the AoP. Two sets of bracers were purchased: the Bracers of AC 3 at Ribald's and the Bracers of AC 6 at Mae'Var's Guild Hall. Some may have noticed a conspicuous absence of gear purchases in this run. That's largely an illusion. I haven't mentioned some, like the Cloak of Displacement and Belt of Inertial Barrier. Other purchases have been squirreled away in the potion case or inscribed in Aerie's spell book. It's too late now to cover the details, but it would suffice to say that the party is broke and well stocked, even if their inventories look empty.

Anyhoo. With zero -and I mean zero- role playing rationale, Aerie, Adara, and Aphril took on the guild hall quest.

To Rayic Gethras' house. Since Adara and Aphril both lacked globes at the outset of the quest, Aerie was sent in to tackle the mephits alone. Protection from Cold and Protection from Fire cast by Adara kept Aerie safe. They would have done the same to Adara and Aphril, but who among them has a hard to disrupt party friendly AoE magic damage spell at their disposal? Only Aerie.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-07%20at%2012.37.

Aerie took down the golems in flind form, supported by meteors from Aphril and Adara. In an upcoming post I'll provide an overview of Aerie's melee tactics.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-07%20at%2012.42.

The party over buffed for Mae'Var only to insta-kill him with the last two Potions of Firebreath. The party is still incapable of facing high level mages in a fair fight. And besides: this is supposed to be an assassination, right? (That's what I tell myself anyways...)

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-07%20at%2012.54.

Onto Mae'Var. The ground floor assassins were skipped in the interest of saving spells for the bloated pink one himself.

Opening Sunfires took out most of Mae'Var's support crew. Mae'Var himself survived, due to his Fire Shield: Red.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-07%20at%201.22.2

A Spell Thrust cleared the way for a Holy Smite finish. Mae'Var didn't get an attack roll in due to Adara's Teleport Field. Aerie's True Sight foiled backstab tactics.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-07%20at%201.25.1

Adara and Aphril both leveled up at the end of the quest. They each got their first L6s. Adara went with Protection from Energy. Aphril selected GoI. The early selection of GoI may seem odd, but this is a Fixpack v10 install. In Fixpack v10, the ever dangerous Spell Immunity killer Spell Thrust is foiled by GoI. Secret Word is as well. Equipped with GoI, Aphril is now capable of protecting her buffs from mid-level mages, if not high level mages. Aphril is looking forward to getting Spell Shield and Spell Deflection.

Best,

A.

Thanks! I will take it! There's lots of enemies there, will be emptying my spell book for sure very quickly - I will probably have to do many Pocket Plane rests to take that area safely. What's been pretty clear so far, is that if my mages every get in a situation low/empty on spells and buffs, they will be dropping like files, except for Ruzzel perhaps (excellent saves and equipment - he has the AoP and Robe of Vecna for example)

What are their levels, Corey?

Good question - I am at work at the moment, so will post levels/stats next update. Most characters have 4-5 HLAs if that helps any. Everyone is single class except for Stealer, who is a thief/mage. Tank is level 24, we can assume other characters have similar experience, just have to look at a leveling/experience table to figure it out.

EDIT:

According to this web site berserker level 24 is 4,000,000 experience. Therefore, the pure mages should be level 20 or level 21 - probably 20 though as Tank just leveled and 21 mage is 4,125,000 experience.

Aphril, Elven Sorcerer: Mencar and Co.

On his last day in Faerun Mencar learned a valuable lesson: never make fun of Aerie. Because if you make fun of Aerie you watch your friends spontaneously combust.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-07%20at%201.47.3

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-07%20at%201.48.2

Then you swirl around a Teleport Field until you're dead.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-07%20at%201.55.2

And that's if you're lucky. If you're not lucky, you get blinded and then Aerie turns into an ogre and beats you to a pulp. Don't mess with the wingless-one.

Best,

A.
