Good stuff Alesia.

Thanks, Aasim.  :)

SCS Rukh is fairly dangerous oponnent - a possible skull trap sequencer is always dangerous (maybe not so much with vanilla Inertial Barrier, but he can have other sequencered nastiness, like a triple Flame Arrow or similar....3XChain Lightning at protagonist.....  :D  ).

All rookie moves. None of that junk had a chance of working.  :P

We had Protection from Magic Energy all around, Protection from Lightning all around, Protection from Fire all around, Protection from Cold all around, GoI/MGoI all around,  and SI:Ev all around so none of those strategies, or anything of their ilk, could do harm. Adara had CC. Aerie had Harmony + sleep immunity. Aphril had saves of -5. We were all also II untargettable and protected by SI:A and SI:D. Adara and Aphril both had Spell Shields up. Remove would bounce off SI:A, True Sight: SI:D. Any attempts at removing the Spell Shields could be quickly countered by Spell Shield recasts. Ruhk had nowhere to go. Almost nowhere, that is.

The only character who was potentially vulnerable was Aerie, and then only after Spell Thrust (which would leave her vulnerable to Cloudkill and Death Fog only, though with an enemy True Sight active, Chromatic Orb, and Melf's Acid Arrow would become threats within a round). It would have taken an uncountered Spell Thrust->Remove to really threaten Aerie. But Aerie's protocol had been to immediately quaff a potion and then exit stage left upon a successful Spell Thrust, mitigating risk.

For Ruhk, the possibilities were death by Aerie or stalemate. The best he could realistically hope for was to do a little AoE acid or poison damage to an invisible and retreating Aerie after he had taken down her SI:Ev with Spell Thrust.

Best,

A.

Aphril, Elven Sorcerer: Minor Quests in and Around Athkatla

Before Aphril, Adara and Aerie continue on to Conster, I should fill in the gaps between the De'Arnise Keep and Windspear Hills. Not much happened, really, but I don't see any reason to leave it out.

With Nalia by their side -and with Potions of Perception in tow- Aphril, Adara, and Aerie decided to explore Watcher's Keep.

Most enemies were Melfed and Sunfired.

Spoiler

The vampiric wraiths fell to Holy Smites and Skull Traps, although they did level drain Adara and Nalia.

Spoiler

Upset that she had allowed herself to be level drained, Nalia blew off some steam by turning into an ogre and chunk-stabbing cows. Adara, Aphril and Aerie weren't sure what to make of this. It was a little weird.

Spoiler

The traps were disarmed, the spiders were killed, the loot was looted. The priest was given his slippers.

Spoiler

When it was all over, Aphril, Adara, and Aerie decided to part ways with the crazy cow-chunker- at least for the time being.

Spoiler

Back in Athkatla, the party completed some minor quests, followed by some really minor quests and some really, really minor quests.

Fallen Paladins

Spoiler

Lilacor (Don't you just love Aerie's full inventory voice over? Highlight of the quest.)

Spoiler

Wellyn and Littleman

Uncle Lester (who apparently doesn't like being interrupted while he's killing)

Spoiler

If this all smells of gratuitous XP hunting, your nose is finely tuned. Aphril, Adara, and Aerie were all close to much needed level ups.

The only battle worth mentioning was the fight with the Delosar Inn crew, although fight may not be the right word. It was more of a slaughter.

Opening triple Sunfires took out the casters.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-10%20at%201.22.4

The warriors, who all prefer range fighting, were faced with the Reflex and ProNM.

Spoiler

Of the three targets, guess which one Captain Dennis chose? The Reflex wielding Aerie. Not the best choice, Captain.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-10%20at%201.25.0

I'll post on the remainder of the Windspear Hills quest soon.

Best,

A.

Currently they're standing in front of circus. They did two things - exited dungeon and gave a frosty greeting to Mencar & his gang. I haven't even bought weapons yet, but it's not like they need them anyway. Thief did get away unfortunately.

It's a great spell.

If I allowed my characters to lob AoE spells from edge of line of sight, I might use it less, but given that they have to be in the thick of combat anyways it's an obvious choice: it gets over the top of Globes, it has a large AoE, and it does heavy damage. It works.

Aside from the fact that it does fire damage, and fire resistance is common, its only flaw is that it is an L5. L5 is a heavily bottlenecked level, due to the key defensive spells there. Aerie, for example, doesn't have room for it in mage battles. Nalia was the same.

As for other offensive spells at 5, nothing really appeals. Relying on AoE save or else disabling spells in no reload play is unwise: you court gamblers ruin. Further, they become less effective, not more, as encounters become more difficult. As a consequence, Chaos is an obvious pass for me. It's a spell that works great until the day that it doesn't work at all: that's exactly what I don't want in no reload play. Skeleton Warriors become irrelevant and or counterproductive by the late game. Cone of Cold is the only tempting alternative, really. Later in the adventure, the mages will memorize CoC from time to time.

Anyhoo, good hunting, Aasim!

A.

Nashlee, 2nd BG2 update

I just remembered I skipped Circus quest completely. :D

Instead, I went straight to sewers to kill Tarnor. His portrait is awesome.

56_zpsbg2gnhnw.jpg

I used Ice+undead (this will change soon - I have special plans on Nashlee's role in this setup, since I'll be able to afford Pro Cold casting - it's a 5th level spell with Spell Revisions, so it's very costly to cast). Gaius had Deflection which stopped Storm + MGoI which stopped 2xWeb from Nashlee's minor sequencer. He ignored the undead, and came rushing to us. We drank invis potions, his Remove would be the death of us all.

57_zps5rssvz5s.jpg

Storms ate through his deflection, and we had to wait MGoI out, that left him open for a quick Skull trap finish.

58_zpsmn5thmi0.jpg

As for Sunfire (Fireburst in SR) - this is it in action. The main difference is that unlike it's vannila counterpart, it doesn't bypass MR. However, save is made at -4 (vs breath), and it can be completely devastating to unsuspecting targets...

I don't pick it since the damage done is Fire, which gets more useless as time goes by.

It is however, the most potent 5th level spell in terms of damage output.

59_zpsio062kcj.jpg

Then it was time for Cap.Dennis. I don't usually bother with this creep, but in this instance I'd love to get that lovely dagger of his.

The "transparent fireshield" their mage has around him is my own making - it's called Vampiric Shadow Shield.  In PnP this is a castable spell, but I wanted AI to have same options/benefits/maluses as I do, hence I made bonuses for mage kits SCS  uses permanent (I'm not savvy enough to handle scripting on such level).

In short - this works like an undispellable fireshield which drains levels and heals the necromancer.  :)

60_zpszaah7yey.jpg

I did the same tactic as always - but I saw something really bad going on. The mage summoned a Bone Fiend. This is very bad. I move Nashlee out of the area immidiately. Chicken, I know. :crying:

61_zpsbqvbnhy3.jpg

Lastzee dies to a Flame Arrow.

62_zpsf5xuicv9.jpg

Bone Fiend kills Galia and my screen flips out to Nashlee. What can she do vs a Bone Fiend? She doesn't even have 5th level spells yet. She has 3/2 apr.

Invisibility is no protection vs him.

63_zps14xgpsiq.jpg

Ah well - he is summoned, so he would eventually dissapear. Oddly enough, upon returning downstairs, Dennis had full health. All others were dead.

I ran down again, and used a Feeblemind scroll found on Gaius. It sticks, and Dennis is done for.

64_zpsj5i3cgfj.jpg

Nashlee now avoids the demon, drinking potions to survive his Cone of Cold attacks. It takes a while, but he finally dissapears. I pick up the dagger, raise the dead, return the poisoned man to harpers and given my concentration level is very low now, call it a day.

As a reminder, we're talking about different spells in different spell systems.

I can't comment on how Sunburst compares to its alternatives in the Revisions world.

As for Sunfire proper in a non Revisions game, I'll note that fire damage remains useable right up through the end of the adventure, though you do have to be mindful of exceptions. And spells that bypasses magic resistance become more useful as time goes on. An AoE damage spell that bypasses magic resistance and fits into both Triggers and Contingencies can be extremely valuable. Sunfire is one of the most potent spells in late SCS-Ascension battles, including the Jon-Jon Bodhi fight and the final confrontation with Mel and the Five.

Aphril, Elven Sorcerer: Firkraag's Pleasure Palace (or The Wingless Avariel Reign Supreme)

Aphril, Adara, and Aerie have rescued Taar, and returned to Athkatla. Aerie led the charge throughout, although Aphril and Adara took the lead in finishing Conster. I'll make this quick.

Back at Ya!

Aerie's Holy Smites devastated the orc archers. And while Aphril and Adara lingered invisible, Aerie enjoyed ranged support- from the orc archers. It took them a few rounds to figure out the Reflex.

Spoiler

Construct-Destruct

Aerie tanked the golems in human form, running the holy triumvirate and haste, among other buffs. She and Ages are getting along now, although the Polymorph forms remain useful.

Fight or Flight?

Declining the invitation to an epic undead battle, Aphril allowed Aerie and Adara to dispatch the vampires under Pro Undead. A False Dawn from Aerie and follow up Sunfires did the deed.

Spoiler

Chunky Chunk-Weres

Do greater wolfweres regenerate when they're flying around in chunky bits? No: No they don't. Just ask Aerie who tanked them to oblivion, supported by Sunfires and Meteors from Aphril and Adara.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-10%20at%208.23.5

Et tu, Tazok?

Yes. Tazok became yet another victim of Avariel melee might.

Screen%20Shot%202015-07-10%20at%208.49.2

Consternation

Buff stumped, Conster failed to get off a single offensive spell. In fact, he refused to break invisibility at first since he didn't see an opening. Spell Thurst->Skull Traps + Holy Smite finished him. Aerie, who had intended to eat through his Stoneskins with the 5 APR Polymorph: Spider form, was forced to sit out the endgame. Her MGoI had expired and damage resistance specific protections cast prior to polymorphing do not carryover: resistances are re-set upon shifting. That's a serious bummer. It makes Polymorph Self far, far less useful in insane mage battles.

Spoiler

I haven't decided what's next for Aphril, Adara, and Aerie. But since Aerie has leveled up once again -and now has a L6 slot- the Planar Prison and Planar Sphere are both possibilities. We'll see.

Best,

A.

Hey Alesia, thanks for asking :) I haven't had as much playtime as I would have liked to, partly due to my choice to do more physical exercise this week than usual, and partly due to work. I hope to report on Dagny tomorrow.

I have imported Valiant into Amn but after doing well at the start am finding that the experience has stuck. Just like an experience cap, but am nowhere near the experience cap. :( Any ideas about how to fix it? I have thought of using SK to bump experience up a bit in case there is a cap in there that is causing the problems.

I set the cap at level 30 with one of my mods and am nowhere near that having just exited Irenicus' Dungeon.

For the first time I did the dungeon solo. Despite it being slightly upgraded, it was not too difficult. :)

Some questions were asked about XP on entry to SoA if the player went through Siege of Dragonspear. I've been refraining from commenting but thought this might be of help for the standard game.

Nashlee, 4th BG2 update

Finished Shadow Thieves. Mae'var tried to do something vs Imp.Invisibility, but failed.

66_zpswy3fbb7w.jpg

Lesser thieves were destroyed with a skull trap + ice storm; Mae'var hid himself and managed to dispel us. We quickly respond with Sanctuary and invis potion to thwart backstabs.

67_zpsyc7u6zmb.jpg

Ramped it up with an icy cone, breaking Mae'var to pieces.

68_zpsshxlnrro.jpg

Sold a lot of loot, and now I had over 20K. Bought two important items

69_zpskpnhjm4a.jpg

Arcane Might goes to my sorceress. She can now cast spells at two levels higher than she actually is - making her Remove 10% more effective. This is a very good robe - it also adds +2 to saves and 20% resistance to magic damage.

Battlemage robe goes to Nashlee. (+2AC, +2 THAC0, +10HP).

With 5K I had left I payed of Cowlies to cast freely in city.

Next, slavers. Fire&Ice.

70_zpspuufef7u.jpg

71_zpsx4b8xrjz.jpg

More slavers, skull traps

72_zpsnxl2lqzk.jpg

Following that, cemetary. Pai'na, her spiders and her summoned leopards got all frozen. Few spiders got burnt as well.

73_zpsobhzxdhl.jpg

Yeah...we're now the Scourge of Alkathla :D . Thieves fear us.

74_zpsptrvpmyi.jpg

I also visit WK, but very briefly - mostly for Crimson dart (it has +3 fire damage) and Paladin's bracers (usable by clerics as well). Following that, Flail of Ages is to be forged. Met my very first Yuan-ti mage. Remove magic was succesfull, and a breach followed. He also breached Lastzee.

75_zps5wfiozvv.jpg

Unfortunately, he has a troll to help him, while Lastzee has Nashlee.

76_zpsl3qxh7jj.jpg

As for Torgal - buffed to max. Summoned skeletons + Kitthix. This triggers the fight instantly. We give them a cold shower + skulls.

77_zpspxq2tz90.jpg

Yuan-ti's are completely neutralized, Nalia chips in a Cloudkill as well. Trolls plow through our summons and close the distance. Nashlee gulps down Defense potion for an AC boost and readies herself for Torgal.

78_zpskafrydy8.jpg

It lasts very shortly, a Chant is added for good measure, and Torgal lays at my feet.

79_zpsgmmtmkls.jpg

I ended the session with disbanding Nalia, refusing the keep, and paying Shadow Thieves 15K gold.

Party of K/M, Jaheira, Haerdalis, Viconia, Imoen and Edwin cleared the Underdark. Betraying adalon and ambushing her at the gates to the underdark unfortunately didn't work. Edwin got 8 or more devour brain messages on her, but she didn't die, which leads me to suspect (at least in my install) she may simply be invincible at that stage. Too bad, but on the whole I'd prefer 80k experience per party member vs. the human flesh armor (although I was fondly hoping for both!).

Demon knights gave me a bit of trouble when I forgot to cast the right buffs. The demon knight battle is in many ways an easy battle masquerading as a difficult one; a single properly buffed melee-type that is immune to fire (PfF), level drain (AoP) and has Death Ward, CC, PfMW and SI:A is invulnerable, and can solo them easily. I chose Haerdalis for this role, and then forgot to give him the AoP or cast SI:A and he immediately got everything dispelled. Oops. Fight went OK anyway and Jaheira is very happy with her frost giant belt.

Mind flayers were more difficult than I remember, I think it was a function of Haerdalis being weak with few APR. Without anyone using IH, he is competent, as 3 APR (mainhand, offhand, offensive spin) is 60% of a hasted (belm wielding) Jaheira with 5 APR. But because offensive spin does not stack with haste, under IH he has 4 attack vs 9 for Jaheira, i.e. 44% effectiveness, which is starting to be pretty terrible. Jaheira has trouble with mind flayers due to her low intelligence and lack of ability to avoid devour brain on hit. It all turned out OK, but didn't feel like the cakewalk that it was with my F/M on my "few reloads" run.

Regarding Haer'dalis more broadly, I guess it's a longer road than I was initially thinking to make him attractive vs. a comparable front-line party member. At least once he get's UAI (+ scarlet ninja-to) and gets HLA traps then I think he will be clearly better than most other recruit-able melee types. Until then, the ruggedness provided by his arcane ability doesn't make up for his lack of APR (and he also has some ruggedness issues even with arcane due to low hp).

Anyhow, other than that most of the underdark went OK. The house jaelat fight is scary to me in SCS due to the number of enemies, as well as the difficulty with disabling them due to drow resistances. Firestorm + PfF is a great combo in the underdark though, and was very helpful in carrying the day.

Skipped the beholders.

2015-07-10%2017_12_38-Baldurs%20Gate%20I

Ambushed Vithal.

Exiting the underdark, the party will now clean up the rest of the quests it didn't do in chapter 2/3. We did the planar prison, where I was reminded how completely unreasonably dangerous the warden is in SCS. Opening with II, SI:D, SI:C, PfMW, Mirror Image, stone skin, Improved Haste and Black blade of disaster (among other spells) is just very dangerous and it takes a while to make him vulnerable due to the SI's. At least he didn't cast time stop, which I believe he can, and in hindsight could probably lead to a wipe with enough bad luck leading him to go after charname in a time stop. No way would I ever touch this quest in SCS prior to chapter 6. Yikes.

K/M is about 150k short of unlocking Kensai levels, at which point the game should get significantly easier. I'm planning on using CF in the offhand, while J + H use all the + APR items.

I'm also trying to decide what to make with my (eventual) planar sphere apprentices. I'm fairly sure the ring of wizardry is the standard choice, and would be very helpful for Imoen who is still struggling with spell-power. But, I'm very tempted by the staff which is supposed to have a no-save stun; I may be too curious how effective that is and have to give it a try.

I was checking an issue and had a ToB game with Daria (EE pregen mage) and Edwin, so consoled in the staff. In this version of the game the staff has 10 charges of lightning, and it is those charges that stun the target for 5 rounds - a couple of seconds before the bolt is cast. It looks like selling & repurchasing refreshes the charges so it could be useful.

I tested it a bit, the effect is blocked by Magic Resistance, but could stun a target with negative saves so does appear to be no save.

Nashlee, 5th BG2 update

Rather short, did some minor leftovers in Alkathla, harpers being one of them. This Fireburst is awesome.  :) Who needs backstab when you can cast this?

80_zpsdy7pspnf.jpg

Circus, finally. I almost forgot about it. Blew up both Aerie & Kalah. :D

81_zpsni8qbswa.jpg

82_zpsqob2tjg7.jpg

Next were vampires (after aquiring MoD and upgrading it- it's bought in my game). Guild contract got a very lovely slap to the face.

83_zpsdcr2ggsp.jpg

As for vampires, I'm mega-careful this time. I lost quite a few runs to them - hence no buffs are spared. This is Nashlee, vampire-ready.

Her AC could easilly get to -25 with just a few more buffs (Def.Harmony + DUHM + Imp.Haste) and her piercing modifier could go to -6 total. Add Pro Evil and there really won't be much vamps can do against her. Ofc - she has the benefit of keeping those buffs with Dispel Screen (Si:Abj), unlike my last protagonist.

84_zpsrqxqlahd.jpg

My Blackguard would be proud.

85_zpsz0rm1hul.jpg

86_zpsfj4ahtqe.jpg

I didn't fight Bodhi, simply waited out. Her THAC0 is kind of insane; we'll need PfMW for her.

Finally, went to Umar, did quest there, and traveled to dungeon. I didn't fight Thaxy, but Shade is going down.

Pre-cast TS (my sorceress learns this spell as 2nd pick after Pro Magic energy. With SR, it's *crucial* to have it) to get rid of mirrors, Secret Word to get rid of Deflection.

88_zpslt8mbdpw.jpg

Pierce magic follows (nullifies MR for 2 rounds).

89_zpsykrg1ogf.jpg

Blast away. This is SR Lightning Bolt damage on a failed save (made at -4!)

You can imagine what Galia will be able to do if she ever lives long enough to cast a Spell Sequencer. :D

90_zps4biae9z0.jpg

The spell disrupted was BBoD. We happily wave Shade goodbye as we pummel Flame Arrows into him.

91_zps3bcxueid.jpg

Nashlee will lead her troops to Trademeet next.

1)Post your Weidu Grim.

Chances are you got some kind of XP limitator in .bcs (script) files.

2) You should have files called balur.bcs and baldur25.bcs in your override folder. Upload them somewhere, I'll fix them & send 'em back to you. You'll also get a candy. :)

Nashlee, 6th BG2 update

Did two major quests. First, Trademeet. No problems there - Deflections and Fireshield kept us safe from insects, while druids don't have any means to defend themselves agains skull traps.

Or Disinitegration.

Ihtafer and his fellows got dispelled, and killed themselves bashing the Fireshield.

Nashlee can now cast 6th level clerical spells. There are quite a few very decent picks here, for now she mostly uses Blade Barrier. SR reworks this spell - no save is allowed, but the damage is  lowered to 1d8 every 3 seconds. Given her low APR rate (she's still at 3/2 per round), it's a great spell to have.

She also now memorizes Mesthil's Acid Sheath. This is an "acidic fireshield"; it substitutes Fireshield:Blue. Most notable difference is that it's a 5th level spell; and it does (guess what?) acid damage. It looks quite unique as well.

I didn't buy anything in Trademeet, but instead returned to Alkathla. In my "normal" setup the items from bonus merchants are removed - Vecna is on Azamantes; Balduran Shield in Underdark. This (their location) can be modified in Item Revisions setup, and I did exactly that. So, I bought myself both of these lovely items. IR Vecna (actually, Larlcoch's):

Invoker(ess) gets it; for as long as she's alive she'll be wearing it. :)

Next was Unseeing eye.

With Mirror (Balduran) shield beholders are nigh useless (unless it's Hive Mother)-  they only bite.  The only real danger was the anti-magic ray followed by webs; courtesy of Unseeing himself. He still died - Nashlee's saves are non to bad.

Both sorceress & ivokeress got hit by Tyrant's anti-magic rays as soon as they poked their head out. :P

I did remember to return the rod this time. Gaal was slain - his body dissapeared after getting hit by a Flame Arrow. It looked as if he fell into the pit. :D

I celebrated by vitory by giving the Rakshasa a taste of Remove magic + Ages pummel.

As with Nalia's keep, I refused my clerical duties for Talos.

Current stats:

Nashlee - f/m/c - levels 11/11/11, 50% kills, Unseeing eye

Galia- invoker - level 14, 24% kills, Elder Umber Hulk

Lastzee- sorcerer - level 14, 26% kills, Bone Golem

I should be visiting Planar Sphere next - it's time to teach Tolgerias a lesson in electricity.

@Aasim. Can you post Lastzee's spell book? I'd be interested in seeing a Revisions sorcerer. Comment on your intended uses of her to contextualize your choices.

Best,

A.

I presume that balur.bcs is a typo and should be baldur.bcs
I also have another bcs file: m#baldur.bcs
Will you need that as well?

I have put that in dropbox as well.

Is that all that I need to do?

I an a newbie to this sort of thing. :(

Here is Weidu.log

@Aasim. Can you post Lastzee's spell book? I'd be interested in seeing a Revisions sorcerer. Comment on your intended uses of her to contextualize your choices.

Best,

A.

Y.

I presume that balur.bcs is a typo and should be baldur.bcs
I also have another bcs file: m#baldur.bcs
Will you need that as well?

I have put that in dropbox as well.

https://www.dropbox....WnjhJKrmVa?dl=0

Is that all that I need to do?

Gimme 5 min.
