Yeah, I can understandwhat you're saying.. I just can't justify not using a (already modified with better AI) spell anymore just because it works: Foiling already op spellcasters is exactely what the spell was made for imo.

 

If you enjoy using Cloud Kill, then by all means do so.

 

Different players just take interest in different combat dynamics. That's all it comes down to in the end.

 

When I'm not playing BG, I spend a lot of time hiking. In the hiker community there is a phrase: hike your own hike, often abbreviated HYOH. The idea is to do it your way, without worrying about what others think the experience should be.

 

I fully support a similar principle in the no reload challenge. Run your own run, perhaps? I'm not sure that has the same pleasing ring, but I support the idea. Keep running your own run, Golden.

I love hiking, best time I ever had was the Anapurna in Nepal with my girlfriend, an Israelian, a swiss guy, and a beast of a Norwegian wearing only sandals (yeah hike your on hike ;)).

Weird :S.. As I said I was also very surprised and cloudkills usually dont kill bosses. Wish I could reload and see.., missed out on a nice fight :/. I remember seeing red and green damage on the Warden.. Maybe that was his clone? Maybe he got tagged by a finger of death by one of the slaves..?

I have no clue.

Hiking is awesome. What I love the most about it is when you're at the start, your toughts are scattered all around (personal life, business, whatever ails you etc.). The more you climb uphill, the more focused you become, up to the point where all that matters is solely your next step, everything else disspears.

It's very fullfilling. :)

Hmm not in my install. I don't have screens but I watched the damage outputs in the message boxes, they were clear on the damage too (red and green colored). One possibility is SCS failed to install 'improved prison' somehow?, I seriously don't understand how he could have fallen (so easily), last time he was making our lives a living hell no he just kinda fell over :P...

I've heard of him dying quickly, although I've never seen it.

Yea, he's the same on my install as in yours, up to the last byte- fire/electric immune, and has 100 poison resist + is poison immune. I don't know how game handles Simmys and similar when it comes to immunities, afaik they should inherit them?

Alexander the barbarian, Episode 4.
 
This epsiode was great, although nervewrecking.

Then something disturbing happens. Even though SCS clearly states: items are taken away in spellhold, this is Alexanders inventory in the dream realm, which is totally off..

I re-install, but the same thing happens..
 
I decide to improvise. What would Jon make Lonk the Sane take away while throwing our team in the cells? I decide he would take away all our gear except armor and other clothing like gauntlets and boots (stripping characters completely seems kinda off..)
 
That does mean all other items, from scrolls to potions, from weapons to rings and necklaces are put in Hexxats sack/bag of holding. I would therefore still have to make heavy use of items found in the asylum.

The containers cannot be opened obviously.
 
We get the bag of holding with Bodhi's note and equip mundane weapons and helmets. 
 
While killing kobolds with aerial servants, we got a surprise. Where did those Yuan Ti come from? Did you guys ever see them here? Does SCS make enemies travel between area's?

We poison the dangerous yuan-ti mage with darts of wounding and arrows and bolts of biting. Quite effective.

We sneak past the other yuan-ti and collect the boots of speed. 
 
And so here it is, I'm hyped. No insect plagues this time. We prepare as good as we can: cast all the buffs we have, including death wards and 2 chaotic commands. Imoen has already created 5 enchanted weapons by spell: 1 mace for Viconia, 2 shortswords for Haer Dalis, 2 shortswords for Imoen and Jan. Alexander will use the +3 spear from the dungeon, Aerie will use the cleric's staff +3. All will throw and shoot poisoned missiles. 
We release the inmates and concentration is max. 
 
Jon starts with double remove magic on Jan. Guess he figured he would dispel ALL the buffs. Fortunately I make Jan run quickly towards the left up corner so only he would get dispelled. It works, he's completely naked ha ha. Viconia-clone gets a doom of and yes, Alex-clone gets to hit Alex there ;)

Meanwhile I underestimated the Viconia-clone. She is buffed, has -9 AC,19 strength and a +3 mace, haste boots and 2 aerial servants and 2 skeleton warriors in her spellbook.. I try to team up on her with Alexander and Haer Dalis and we beat her to near death.
I retreat Alexander waiting for Haer Dalis to finish the job. But after a while she's STILL not dead.. Oh.. right.. she is also wearing the regeneration ring :/
 
Jan gets a chaos off affecting only Alexander-clone. Jan-clone gets shot to death and Imoen-clone gets power word: killed by one of the inmates. Meanwhile Aerie-clone gets stomped to death and our own Aerie makes a simulacrum with one of the found scrolls. 
 
Jon's timestop/alacrity/planetar happens. ALL ATTENTION TO THE ANGEL PLEASE! I stick to my plan and make Vionia cast magic resistance on it. To my dismay SHE WALKS up to the angel to cast it. Guess I didn't figure that was necessary when she tested the spell on herself earlier. Luckely the planetar is too busy with stoneskinned, mirror imaged (and probably pfmw too) Aphril. That girl comes in handy!
 
The disaster happens..
A disgustingly effective dragon's breath from Jon chunks Viconia who wasn't ready with casting her spell yet! NEEEUUUU!!! I see my hopes fade.
Jan dies also while the planetar doesnt get hit (looked it up seems it has big fire damage resistance as well as magic resistance).. Look at that SAVE vs breath from Alexander.. He wouldve been death FOR SURE :o!

New plan, Aerie has to slowly but steadily reduce magic resistance with her 3 memorized lower resistance spells. We get to get 2 off. Imoen tests a magic missle and it connects for about 20 damage.
 
Meanwhile Viconia-clone who is fully healed and her aerial servant beat up Haer Dalis. I make him offensive spin and aid Alexander in trying to hit the angel. Alexander gulps the only potion he found in the asylum (of an illithid). 
 
The angel still focusses on Aphril while Haer Dalis gets a nice crit. Alexander also hits for 8 damage. Viconia-clone summons another aerial servant and one of the loonies gates another demon (sigh)..

The angel is at injured. I think and got an idea. Maybe, just maybe, Imoen can get the power word: stun off we found in the asylum (notice it in the quickslot). 
 
But before we can even cast it Dradeel BEATS US TO IT!!! It works! Look at her standing there stupefied harhar!

We slay her. I consider this a huge succes at this stage, without good items we still slay this powerful foe against odds.

Alexander transforms into a troll which, combined with the regen ring he took from Viconia's charred remains, leads to some serious regenerating. Aphril, who has proved more than her worth, and Dradeel get double k.o.'d by a meteor from Jon. Meanwhile a summoned Mordy sword is a huge distraction for enemy summons. So much going on in one screenshot!

Just 3 of us left.. Eventually Imoen runs out of everything and when I don't pay attention for a second or 2 she gets tagged by a skeleton warrior. We use all the leftover scrolls, even animal summoning III. Jon uses a power word stun on the near death ogre berserker here, which was doing serious work on the enemy skeleton warriors, XD! Notice Alexander decided enough is enough, transforms back into human form and starts pummeling the mage.

All eyes are on Jon. All his big protections have run out and we are occasionally able to hit the high AC mage with missles. Aerie even interrupts his spells twice with a bullet!
 
And we succeed!

Things are looking bad still because clone-Viconia is just unbeatable right now, not even considering the 'murderers'. I opt to flee. We run into Saemon who transports us out. Storywise I figure this is when Alexander runs to Irencius chambers and gets his gear, which means we can open the bags of potions, gems, scrolls, and holding again. Only Alexander and Aerie are left, resting at the temple in Brynnlaw currently.

We survived a close call, I couldn't have played or prepared any better so this is true satisfaction. 
 
This weekend no play time and I need a breather from this crazy battle, so it will be a couple of days.

Otoh, why did you go to visit Twisted Rune creeps?  I simply skip  that crap with SCS, teleporting Lich+Beholder+mage = very high chance of death...

I was doing a completionist run and felt that required everything possible to have been done prior to going to Spellhold.  The only things I'd backed away from prior to that were the 2 dragons, but they would have been next after the Twisted Rune.

I was doing a completionist run and felt that required everything possible to have been done prior to going to Spellhold.  The only things I'd backed away from prior to that were the 2 dragons, but they would have been next after the Twisted Rune.

If I did that, I'd go for Twisted just before Hell....your party would make mincemeat out of Dragons I think. Thaxy could be problematic with level drain, but Firk would die quickly.

I agree I would expect them to beat both dragons quite easily, but I don't think it would be risk-free.  They would need to respond accurately to a remove magic / dragon breath combination from Firkraag for instance.  I also sometimes find that dragon animations cause a system slowdown, with the result that the dragon can move and attack faster than my characters (even if hasted and wearing boots of speed).  That means that anyone attacked is highly likely to die within a round ...

Parthis & co, entering BG2 challenge

We started by clearing out the circus, then CC, slavers, CTD, find & fix the cause (helmet animation), reload, again slavers in CC (got Tansheron for Archer - 5 apr!), from there to Goverment, Delon, City Gates, Umar small quests, get Ilbratha for barbarian & a new shield for Parthis, WK, nothing but Mephits, Free Action + Rage keeps us safe, kill mephits

Got +1 quiver, potions etc. there and left. Now, thieves quests. Parthis got level 9 as a cleric when clearing out golems after killing Edwin to get house access.

He now has access to Chaotic Commands + True Seeing. With that, we assault Mae'var. Archer is buffed since dwarven saves + Claw keep my front liners quite safe, but she gets hit by Breach. Why does the "spell protections removed" message get displayed? There are no spell protections removed by Breach...sigh. I'll fix that.

I forgot to actually use True seeing, making this battle last a tad longer than it should.

Chain Lighting - 6 damage.  :D He'd be better off with PfMW.

It didn't really matter in any case - with Satzee's 5 apr, he's dead in seconds.

Following that, we did Harpers, payed of 15K gold, did 1st and 2nd thieves' quest

and then it was time to aquire a Full Plate. Mecar wears it, and I want it. This had the potential to end fairly badly, Mecar drank a Fire giant potion and hit like a truck. Barbarian was killed first, then thief was focused so he ran away.

We also got hit by dispel, removing our buffs.

Magic Missiles casting brought Parthis fairly close to death, I had to spend two big healing potions from WK to ensure his life is safe.

With Mencar's death, most spells spent, victory was close.

Pooky's final atempt was Stinking cloud, both him and Amon's MGoI's expired while within it - making them sitting ducks while we killed them.

With a Full Plate, it's time to get a decent weapon. De'Arnise is next. Yuan-ti mage died after 5 rounds (4 of them under PfMW)- conviniently, that's how much a Rage lasts.

I didn't really want to tackle the full Yuan-ti/Elder Umber/Torgal group - I lured Torgal out and killed him alone. Chicken, I know - but the chance of survival at these levels are rather grim; so I played it safe. A bug happend, making Torgal "immortal", but it kind of fixed itself - it only lasted a while.

I refused the keep and went to Trademeet.

There we fought some ugly trolls, even uglier Elder Elemental (undoable w/o Chaotic Commands or Rages)

and the most ugly Rakshasa group (I did buy quite a few potions from them before). I did a mistake here and wasted my one ZoSA casting on first Cloudkill - so we had to fight in the next.

Worse yet, their Remove hit us all succesfully.

For full mayham - Tely Field + Web. Awesome. Chance for death rises drastically. Barbarian gets confused, archer gets near death and downs an invis  potion.

I pull Parthis out of clouds, and have him tank Rakshasas. Archer finally gets some distance and starts whipping arrows.

Burth managed to avoid death vs Rakshasa, but the druids actually killed him, resulting in first death of the run. I don't know what actually happened, he suddenly lost much HP and that was it.

Parthis, 2nd BG2 update

 

With Harmony Shield, Displacement Cloak & Inertial belt, Parthis fears nothing but fear itself. With that, we buy two Pro Undead scrolls and go vampire hunting in Graveyard. This was very close to being Parthis' death actually. His save vs spells is 0. I got cocky and attacked the spiders there w/o Free Action on him (rest of the group was near entrance). He gets held immidiately. Help!

And it was the closest he ever came dying. That would be a bummer.....

I was happy he wasn't posioned, or he'd be a gonner now.

 

Killing vamps under Pro Undead felt very satisfying. Tanova ended at least 3 of my runs.

Bodhi herself did nothing, even if I had my barbarain (not under Pro Undead, it even expired on Parthis) close to her. Ah well, I'm not complaining.

I like Pro Undead scrolls. Cheesy, effective, and it makes me feel immortal near them. To my great surprise, Skeleton Warriors seem to ignore them and attack. Shadows don't, so we visited Umar dungeon and killed us some.

No liches spawned, we did get Greater Mummys. No problem with Pro Undead, in any case.

Dagny, Gnome Cleric/Illusionist, 2nd & final BG2 update

A short session this morning wasn't short enough to keep me from bringing Dagny to her doom. She did Tirdir's quest, and part of Arnise (not the basement) for the FoA. She traveled to Umar Hills, did the minor quests in Imnesvale and then moved on to the Temple Ruins where she cast PfUndead from a green scroll.
I wasn't sure whether she would face Bone Golems or Liches there. 
The plan was to avoid the first Bone Golem or Lich plus Mummies and Skeleton Warriors in the room next to the fire pool (or whatever it is). Turned out to be a Lich. Well hidden in the fog of war, its buffs/contingencies triggered, and it gated in a Dark Planetar and a Glabrezu. The fact that the Lich acted from the fog of war took me by complete surprise. The Glabrezu with its teleport without error found Dagny first, and PW:Stunned her. I had previously messed up with the level 6 spell Contingency, which she had cast a bit earlier. I had wanted to set the Contigency to Helplessness: Otiluke's Resilient Sphere, but noticed I hadn't memorized that spell. Instead I picked Sanctuary (and decided to recruit a Mage later on, Jan probably, to trigger the Contigency so that Dagny could cast a new Contingency with Helplessness: ORS). Anyway, as Dagny was stunned her Contigency triggered, but the Glabrezu ignored Dagny's Sanctuary and quickly breached her meager defenses (Stoneskins bascially).
