Really sorry to hear about Dagny, Blackraven. Does CC protect against stun in your install? It lasts quite a while - you could just walk around with that active...otherwise, not sure what else you could have done.

Free Action does. Doesn't last nearly as long as CC, but I would have cast it (together with a MGoI, because Glabrezus also Remove Magic in my install), if only I known that the Lich would cast spells from the fog of war.
Edit: thanks for your sympathies. You too Golden.

Free Action does. Doesn't last nearly as long as CC, but I would have cast it (together with a MGoI, because Glabrezus also Remove Magic in my install), if only I known that the Lich would cast spells from the fog of war.
A few notes.
1) In G3 (v9/v10) Core fix only installs, Free Action will not protect against Stun. You have to select the Free Action Protects Against Stun option (I'm pretty sure BR knows this, but I thought I'd mention it for the benefit of others). With the Free Action Protects Against Stun option selected, the spell Free Action, Potions of Freedom, and Free Action conferring items (ex-Ring) will all stop Stun
2) Chaotic Command does protect against Stun (45) and Power Word Stun (210), even though it is not explicitly mentioned in the spell description
3) Unless you have a spell tweak installed, MGoI and GoI will behave like Spell Deflection, Spell Turning, etc in the face of Remove Magic: Remove will not take them down, but they will not stop Remove
4) Spell Immunity: Abjuration is your option for stopping Remove
My approaches for foiling Power Word: Stun are:
1) Sword of Arvoreen (Not available to all, but an excellent option since it can't be dispelled and won't cancel movement rate bonuses, nor prevent subsequent Haste)
2) 90+ HP (Reliable, but for many characters temporary. Depending on hit points alone can be unwise: the player should have a contingency plan)
3) Minor Spell Deflection, Spell Deflection, Spell Turning, Spell Trap (These will all foil Power Word: Stun and can not be dispelled by Remove Magic. They can, however, be consumed)
4) Spell Immunity: Conjuration (+ Spell Immunity: Abjuration, ideally)
5) Chaotic Commands (+ Spell Immunity: Abjuration, ideally)
6) Greenstone Amulet (+ Spell Immunity: Abjuration, ideally)
Enrage and Berserk should work, too, but I don't play those classes, nor do I use Slayer form/
And with Free Action Protects Against Stun installed
6) Free Action Items, like the Ring of Free Action (NW: Remember that applying Free Action will cancel movement rate bonuses, such as those conferred by Boots of Speed. It will also stop subsequent attempts at boosting movement rate. This can be dangerous, especially in the presence of a mage who may haste the demons.)
7) Free Action or Potion of Freedom (+ Spell Immunity: Abjuration) (NW: Again, remember that applying Free Action will cancel movement rate bonuses, such as those conferred by Boots of Speed. It will also stop subsequent attempts at boosting movement rate. This can be dangerous, especially in the presence of a mage who may haste the demons. )

Dagny, Gnome Cleric/Illusionist, 2nd & final BG2 update
A short session this morning wasn't short enough to keep me from bringing Dagny to her doom. She did Tirdir's quest, and part of Arnise (not the basement) for the FoA. She traveled to Umar Hills, did the minor quests in Imnesvale and then moved on to the Temple Ruins where she cast PfUndead from a green scroll.
I wasn't sure whether she would face Bone Golems or Liches there.
The plan was to avoid the first Bone Golem or Lich plus Mummies and Skeleton Warriors in the room next to the fire pool (or whatever it is). Turned out to be a Lich. Well hidden in the fog of war, its buffs/contingencies triggered, and it gated in a Dark Planetar and a Glabrezu. The fact that the Lich acted from the fog of war took me by complete surprise. The Glabrezu with its teleport without error found Dagny first, and PW:Stunned her. I had previously messed up with the level 6 spell Contingency, which she had cast a bit earlier. I had wanted to set the Contigency to Helplessness: Otiluke's Resilient Sphere, but noticed I hadn't memorized that spell. Instead I picked Sanctuary (and decided to recruit a Mage later on, Jan probably, to trigger the Contigency so that Dagny could cast a new Contingency with Helplessness: ORS). Anyway, as Dagny was stunned her Contigency triggered, but the Glabrezu ignored Dagny's Sanctuary and quickly breached her meager defenses (Stoneskins bascially).[
Condolences.
Obviously I should wish you knowledge for your next run.

Parthis, 3rd BG2 update
Bought Balduran shield, got into sewers, killed Gaius from Sanctuary/Stealth/Invi potion before he could react...not cool. I'll set SCS mages to have a pre-cast stoneskin from now on (my mages usually do
).
The rest was a slaughter.
Still buffed, I did Rakshasa (managed to dispel barbarian, few Skull traps, but nothing drastic)
and returned the broken mirror to Mekrath. With that done, we descend further down, parlor with Gaal, further down again, Yuan-ti spawned (I hate them), had two long fights vs their mages there (they seem to dispel with 100% chance, at least for now..). Additionally, they summoned Mordy swords, which I ignored for the duration.
Unseeing himself wasn't a problem with Balduran.
Adopted clerical stronghold. Cotirso seems to be a very high level fighter, since he has Whilrwind attack. ![]()
Then, Ilithium, upgraded MoD, fallen paladins, exposed skinner (didn't yet go to his basement), Lirarcor, slavers boat (didn't fight mages, I fear the trap there)
And to finish the session, I traveled to Windspear hill. There I found a pretty crazy shield - this is apperantly a 1pp added item. It's a "leave it on the ground" kind, however. Parthis will still stick with his Harmony.

Aphril, Elven Sorcerer: The Unseeing Eye (or A Den of Stinking Evil)
Minsc is not a man of letters. He is not a wordsmith. But he does have a way with words. No one could better describe the lair of the Unseeing Eye. And while the mighty ranger sat this one out, no crevice was left untouched- no crevice except one, that is.
Having already defeated a Hive Mother and an Elder Orb, Aphril and friends have their beholder slaying tactics down. A little practice never hurts though. The team used the same method here that they used in the Underdark. Comprehensive buffs with a Spell Shield on top. Potion of Invisibility->Spell Shield->Re-engage if and when the Spell Shield comes down. As for damage, Sequencers and Triggers are preferred.
Into the lair. I'm not sure what this otyugh was thinking, attacking us from over there: not a good move.
Nor was existing a good move for the random spawn undead. When Aerie comes to town, you best step aside.
Same goes for the yuan-ti, although their end was crispy rather than chunky.
First beholder crew. Aerie lost her Spell Shield, but no one was debuffed or injured
This never gets old
This never gets old
Ok: Maybe it does get old.
After entering the lair invisible, the party secured the rod and then buffed for the Unseeing Eye. Aerie discharged the rod. Moments later, Aphril and Adara launched their Sequencers. Aphril got the kill. No one lost their Spell Shield.
Aerie's Sequencer was later used to kill the Blind Priests. The remaining beholders were cleared out as well. Everyone leveled up here.
Finally Gaal. He really galled Aerie...
This was done with buffs left over from the beholders. Adara, who lacks Boots of Speed, took her sweet time catching up to Imoen and Aerie but she, nonetheless, was the one who finished the fight.
The Guarded Compound is next.
Best,
A.
Aerie, L15/14 C/M: Kills- 392; XP Value- 31%; Most Powerful Vanquished- Hive Mother; Favorite Spell- Holy Smite; Favorite Weapon- Melf's Minute Meteors; Cumulative Damage Taken- ~50HP
Imoen, L7/16 T->M: Kills- 52; XP Value- 6%; Most Powerful Vanquished- Lich; Favorite Spell- Stoneskins; Favorite Weapon- Melf's Minute Meteors; Cumulative Damage Taken- 0HP
Adara, L18 Sorcerer: Kills- 364; XP Value- 31%; Most Powerful Vanquished- Saemon Havarian; Favorite Spell- Invisibility; Favorite Weapon- Melf's Minute Meteors; Cumulative Damage Taken- 65HP (one death)
Aphril, L18 Sorcerer: Kills- 367; XP Value- 31%; Most Powerful Vanquished: Unseeing Eye; Favorite Spell- Invisibility; Favorite Weapon- Melf's Minute Meteors; Cumulative Damage Taken- 0HP
Note that the XP percentages for Aerie, Adara, and Aphril are now exactly even, although Aerie remains the party kill leader. Imoen lags, naturally, but she has been holding her own since she joined- despite the fact that she struggles to meet the partys defensive standards and has few slots left for offensive spells.

Thanks everyone for their condolences, and Alesia for expounding on Stun management options. The fact that I would have used a MGoI to foil the Glabrezu's Remove Magics goes to show once more that I still have to work on my understanding of arcane magic.

One might consider installing PnP Free Action: v2 in this case as well (just like me...

Parthis, 4th BG2 update
Windspear hills
1st, Rukh. I lured out his Remove with my barbarian, he hasn't great resistances or saves yet, but he has the most HP. Meanwhile. Parthis casts True Seeing, removing his illusion buffs. He's still under PfMW, hence untouchable for now.
We just survive through his Fireball, Skull Trap, Web+Stinking Cloud sequencer, and then attack. He quickly responds with Fireshield/Stoneskin seq - great! I don't have to fear an offensive sequencer.
I disrupted one of his spells, and then it was done.
Vamps < PfU.
Here I CLUAed 2 commands. First one makes mages have set stoneskin before they go hostile, and the 2nd one makes aTweaksd demons not enter Ether plane.
With that done, we deal with Samia.
Oddly enough, a vampire somehow made his way there.
We focus him down first
and then the rest.
Rest of the dungeon was done with no difficuties. Now, Firkraag. How do we deal with this creep? Two words : Called Shot.
Barbarian is to tank, Parthis will be slinging at him.
Called shot has an amazing ability to lower THAC0, making Firkraag a 552HP beast that cannot hit a broad side of a barn (barbarian has an AC of -3 or so). ![]()
That limits him to his breath attack. Can't do squat, anyway. He does Remove, Breach, but it's a futile endeavor.
The moment we're dispelled, potions are used.
After a (long) while, Called Shot THAC0 penalty expired, but Firk was already near death. He dies as Burth dies to his last attack.
Only one will be ressurected, however, and it ain't gonna be Firk. ![]()
Conster tried something with a Mantle cast, bleh....

Sorry to hear of Alexander's demise, Golden28. My understanding in SCS, if you make the drow city hostile (which as you found out, is actually pretty easy to do), then the city defenses are intentionally made so a player cannot win. Thus, instead your best bet wouid be to stay the hell away Ust Natha, do the other lairs (llithids, Beholders), etc. then just go to the Kua-Toa lair and walk to the surface - the gate is open when you fail the Adalon Egg quest.

@CKT. I thought of Sir Gawain's Hell Trials dilemma while riding my bike today.
The Hell Trials are suppose to be an exploration of self, a chance at self discovery. Play it that way. Let Sir Gawain realize that he has learned a valuable lesson. Let him learn that he has been guilty of pride, and let him further realize that his pride in killing, in warrior-hood, is connected to the taint. Let him feel regret, but let him also feel empowered. Let him realize that his deeper understanding of self will ultimately aid him in his quest of becoming the right and honorable defender of good that he envisions himself to be. Let the experience strengthen him, not weaken him- even if it does raise temporary self doubt within the narrative.
Anyhoo. That's how I'd play it. I defer to your judgement though. You have a better understanding of Sir Gawain than I.
Best,
A.
Thank you. I like that line of thinking. I've completed the remaining tasks & look forward yo what's behind Door #1. I can't remember if it's another cavern or an ass-whoopin' (It's been too long). Regardless, with the help of his personal priest, The Watcher of Helm, Anomen, Gawain will learn but not w/o penance & prayer. Gawain's AD&D Deities & Demigods description he is, "Arthur's favorite cousin but a vengeful knight that would to the ends of the earth to right some supposed wrong done to him or his family". From reading Sir Gawain & the Green Knight before starting this PC I also determined him to be lawful, honorable & Chivalrous to a fault (even when the Green Knight tempted his with his (TGKs) own wife). Thankls for tsking the time to follow up.
Now I need to go get on my bike for a 45 minute sweat fest. Ugh. Then I can play hours of BG2 SOA all weekend w/o a twinge of guilt! CKT

@Aasim. Nice work! I agree that Called Shot is an underutilized power ability. As you may be aware, Semiticgod has done an excellent job of demonstrating that over on the Beamdog forums. I look forward to seeing what you can do with it!
@Golden. Sorry to hear about Alexander. Slay Living is pretty dangerous. It creates a temporary magical weapon that slays the target on a failed save. SCS priests do use it. The tricky thing about it is that it casts very quickly, casting time 1, so it's easy for a cleric to sneak it in while in melee contact with you. Note that Slay Living changes the color of the caster. Look for that warning in the future. And watch your saves!
Best of luck with your next attempt!
@Grim Jim. Nice work! Jim looks stellar.
@CKT. Go sweat it out! Enjoy your ride. Finish strong with Sir Gawain!

Quick Note on Aphril's Game: Guarded Compound
The Guarded Compound is done. It served as a reminder that Aphril and her crew should move along to ToB soon: they don't belong in Athkatla any more.
Imoen clears the way, while Sion is dumbfounded by SI:D
Aphril, who now wears Vecna, and who recently acquired Improved Alacrity, took over from there. The Teleport Fields were admittedly superfluous, but they look cool.
Meanwhile Aerie dispatched Ketta with Implosion->MMM. Imoen and Adara missed out on the fun: Imoen's Wilting and Adara's Dragon's Breath were both too slow to reach the quickly dying foes.
I think it may be time to avenge the Wrecking Crew.

It's interesting, Alesia, that you are willing to adopt Minsc's phrasology, but not his presence.
I'm willing to adopt Minsc's phraseology when I'm quickly trying to come up with a hook and the words "den" and "evil" pop into my head. ![]()
In the context of this party, Minsc -or any warrior for that matter- would serve little purpose. He wouldn't be a protector: he'd have to be protected. He'd also nerf our AoE assault and or we'd have to worry about him getting dispelled. I'd hate for him to lose his Protection from Magic Energy while he has 12 Skull Traps headed his way, for example. I'm guessing that's pretty clear.
Do you think you will ever do a party of all melee characters
No.
![]()
Actually, it depends on what you mean by an all melee party. I'd be willing to do a F/T and F/C duo, accompanied by non-arcane Bioware PCs, for example.
An all thief party interests me more than an all warrior party.
I've also been thinking about giving my paladin, Alessandra, another try.
Best,
A.
