Kaxir trudges to Trademeet and luckily for him the Hands of Takkok ogre gauntlets are there. He re-purchases them and returns to Cromwell. Crom Faeyr offhand should be interesting.

Watchers Keep (3)

Yakman fails to respond to a Rod of Resurrection charge so Kaxir shrugs and moves on, bagging a broken sceptre on the way.

(The exit is mere feet away but the mad elf refuses to leave)

Kaxir heads back and then East to make short work of three Cornugons and a Balor. He grabs a sword from a nearby rock and bags it after checking he can't use it. Oh well, that about sums up this level.

Spoiler
Or maybe this sums it up better. Into the PW:Stun zone - requiring two extra healing potions to climb out of it.Kaxir has faced four or five cornugons by this point and realises a second Mauhrezi (spelling) is present and appears to be summoning them in. Change of target...
Spoiler
The quasits are all that remain, proving annoyingly irritating but eventually Kaxir is able to hit them.
Spoiler

Time to leave WK as that last part was touch and go.

Oof, hard luck Grimwald. But... A Lich casting Imprisonment? It's generally only Demiliches that I even worry about the possibility of that type of threat. Nevertheless, it was a very good run; I usually get depressed about a character if my main NPCs get chunked after awhile.

It WAS a demilich. Sorry for the inaccuracy. :(

Haven't had much experience in Watcher's Keep recently, so wasn't ready for that battle. :(

Condolences, Wise.

Demiliches are dangerous- especially if you're not expecting them.

Good luck with your next run!

Best,

A.

The thing about Watchers Keep, thought Kaxir, is that it's a beggar to get out of. Simply going back the way you came is not going to cut it. Having a nap is another bad idea.

The first portal transition was to an empty room, the second contained two Cornugons and a Pit Fiend. They were defeated but Kaxir arrived in a sorry state and took a bit more damage as well as using up a Hardiness and a GWW. He stands still for a few minutes, healing, before exploring the rest of this room. A pair of Velithuu may look like salamanders but a quick Wave test confirms they are not and Kaxir decides to flail them with Crom strength. He stands still for a few minutes longer, considering his options as he offhands the Peridan long-sword to ward off any fear effects while venturing further.

Two Hardiness and two GWW's remain so he has a bit left in the bank but not enough to deal with another group of enemies like Tahazzar. South-West gets him to where he first met Yakman, and South-East from there gets him back to Yakman. South-East from there gets him out, alive. It is tempting to return once more but that is very risky.

Glad to hear it, Gate.

For a moment I thought I was reading a final update.

It felt a bit like that to me. He'd probably go back if he got to ToB.

Instead Kaxir ventured into the vampire nest to seek out Bodhi. His unbuffed AC is 0, and he's using the Improved Mace plus Adjatha. There may be no need for the protection against charm/dominate but why risk it when he is uncertain if -5 vs Spells is enough. The vampires fall before him, even without using his HLA's.

A change of mind sees him switch back to Crom Faeyr as he enters the final room with Hardiness, Mirrors and a GWW running. Bodhi is soon near-death and Kaxir relents, destroying a fledgling instead.

Baldr096.jpg

Switching back to Bodhi sees him run around the blood-pool and the reward is a nice chunking.

(I was thinking you don't often see that, if at all)

Baldr097.jpg

Bodhi gets the last laugh though

There was nothing left to turn into mist and retreat. So nothing to stake and no Lanthorn to collect.

(that's probably why you don't see it very often)

Kaxir gets the last laugh

(I'd saved after the event. Shutting the game down, then loading that save saw her available to stake and the Lanthorn/heart appeared in Kaxir's inventory. So he can continue without having to redo anything)

Dyara Dragonslayer (or 'Return to Windspear')

Dyara, elven Fighter/Mage/Thief (BG2, update 5)

While thinking what to do next Dyara remembered that she still had an appointment at (or better: below) the graveyard... however the undead there were no real threat...

Spoiler

... and Bodhi quickly ran away. While they could sail to Spellhold now Dyara decided to do some other things first.

One thing was practicing her set trap skill...

Spoiler

... two out of three was not too bad for her skill level, but what to do with the laid traps? It was far too dangerous to leave them where they were, so Dyara called for the Cowled Wizards...

Spoiler

Two things we learned from this: the damage of Dyara's traps is mediocre (at best) and spellcasting is still forbidden (despite her partnership with the wizards).

Another thing Dyara wanted to do before leaving Athkatla was going to Windspear Hills to slay the monsters that had invaded the land, something Lord Firkraag had asked them to do. When the party arrived there the usual things happened (party got tricked into killing the knights, Garren Windspear showed up, party gets invited into his cabin, Garren's child got abducted) and thus the party made it into Windspear Hill dungeon. The place was infested with orcs, undead, all sort of golems and even wolfweres...

Spoiler

While searching for the grave of King Strohm III the party became surprised by a director but it was slain like all the others. Same was true for a treacherous adventurer party...

Spoiler

Finally the party found Garren Windspear's son Taar... and an old enemy...

Spoiler

Once Dyara got the key from Conster, Taar returned to his father's cabin while the party rested as there remained one thing to do...

Spoiler

Dyara felt a little bit ashamed of the kill as it had been her one and only hit (and it wasn't even a good one). By far the most damage (82) and two-thirds of the hits were done by Mazzy (the party counted 10 arrows sticking in the dragon's corpse). The party returned to Garren Windspear's cabin where they spend the night. Via Trademeet (where Dyara bought a 'Composite Short Bow+2' for Mazzy - she still might prefer the Tuigan Bow for the extra attack, though -  the 'Belt of Inertial Barrier' for Xan and the 'Cloak of Displacement' for Valygar) the party returned to Athkatla where the fallen paladins were dealt with. Also by accident another group of Cowled Wizards...

Spoiler

Quad Multiplayer No Reload
Session 11: Dead druids and Dragon.

Druid Grove
Having previously cleared the troll mound, the rest of this area should have been simple, and so it proved. Druids silenced, trolls flamed, spore colonies cut down to size and Faldorn failing to worry Cernd at all.

Trademeet
With the heroic statues in place all that was left was to loot a relic from the local crypt. Strofe led the way and bravely ran behind Brazil and then Corheal.

Bridge District
Thieves and traps (maze).
Observe the portrait icon.
Baldr167.jpg

Thieves and Ghasts. It's a bit early for the first death of the session, can Wewa be saved?
Baldr168.jpg

Against the odds a heal and kill are quick enough to keep her alive.
Baldr169.jpg

Thieves and traps (petrification).
Observe the statue on the right side of the door.
Baldr171.jpg

This next section spoilered as my game crashed so we had to start Umar Hills again.

Spoiler

Umar Hills
After recovering to the autosave, things went a little bit smoother, with Corheal alone in the cave again but Brazil and Wewa immobilised outside. It wasn't long before clues led to a temple outside town.

Temple Ruins
Corheal doesn't like Undead. He really doesn't like them.
Baldr176.jpg

Thieves and area traps (Fireball).
Wewa manages to fireball the entire party and Brazil asks what detect trap skills the thief has. Umm, no answer. Strofe is a bit shellshocked, his health looking precarious and realising he should be a bit more circumspect.
Baldr177.jpg

There is a bit of a debate about what to do with the dragon. A plan forms;
- At least one snare was laid.
- A fire elemental, two mountain bears and a couple of summons.
- Plenty of divine spell buffs.

The summons take a pounding but the dragon is also taking damage. Ras is summoned and offers a brief respite.

Wewa gets level-drained and is told to retreat.
Corheal bravely holds the line not once, not twice but three times. This last time sees him fall to the ground.
Strofe gives up shooting arrows and moves in for a backstab, then runs as the dragon spots him anyway.
Corheal repeatedly suggest his companions should retreat but he's dead and they can't hear him

Brazil has the Amulet of Power and Ironskins. She throws Strofe an Oil of Speed and makes a stand.
Strofe moves in behind the dragon and starts cutting away.
Wewa returns as Brazil's last ironskin crumbles away and makes a decisive shot.
Baldr178.jpg

With Corheal down and session-time running out it seemed wise to defer the Shade Lord and return to civilisation.
The Temple of Helm takes 1000gp to breathe some life into Corheal.

Gate70: Strofe, Stalker 10. 459 kills (+35). Spirit Troll.
Corey Russell: Corheal, Priest of Lathander 11. 132 kills (+32). TorGal.
Grond0: Brazil, Fighter 9 / Druid 12. 322 kills (+24). Vampiric Wraith.
DogDancing: Wewa, Thief 13. 84 kills (+5). Thaxll'ssillyia.

I'm the same. I had got to really identify with my character. Even losing Nalia came as a blow despite the fact that Imoen made a good replacement. The romances cause you to identify with the characters far more.

However I really enjoyed the run. Going back to kill Grothgar and the Difficult Brown Dragon was so satisfying as they had really hurt the party when I tried them without Carsomyr.

I'm also glad that I at least attempted Watcher's Keep this time through even though unsuccessfully.

Next time another Berserker, this time a Tiefling who will dual to mage. Is level 6 or 7 best for dualling? I don't want to leave it any longer than 7 as I want his fighting abilities back and by then he has plenty points in his chosen weapon. Started with **** in axes. Will once more go for pips in two handed weapons due to the good two handed axes in Amn, always assuming that he gets that far.

Kaxir has brought all the right equipment to Suldanessellar. Golems - Crom Faeyr. Trolls - Crom Faeyr. Skeleton Warriors - Mace of Disruption

Some creatures don't have an Achilles Heel so Kaxir looks for a silver lining. Adsaan for example. Or Nizidramanii'yt or Rakshasa's through their protective spells.

Condolences Wise, you did well.

Alesia and Golden, belated thanks for your warnings and tips. Stun is less of threat for Isa now that she has the Sword of Arvoreen. The Reflection Shield is not yet usable though. (It's not changed into a Buckler by my version of Rogue Rebalancing).

Dyara, congrats on beating Firky :)

Gate, keep up the good work!

Isadora, Halfling Swashbuckler, BG2 update 3

Isa paid a second visit to Watcher's Keep, this time entering the place, and did an interesting discovery there:

Spoiler
She didn't need +3 weapons to hit Stone Golems. Her +2 Scimitars sufficed. (I was pretty sure that in my BGT install +3 weapons were needed, but now I'm doubtful.) The rogue's stay was going to be a short one though. She picked up some loot, including a returning Crimson Dart, but was denied the opportunity to investigate further (and aquire an ammo belt) when Vampiric Wraiths came after her and level-drained her.
Spoiler
The Keep would have to wait till she was ready for it.

Back in Athkatla Isa attacked and finished Rayic Gethras' Stone Golems that she knew vulnerable to her blades. She took the late wizard's vacant property for herself. It was a spacious home, and its location was convenient, close to the guild house she soon hoped to lead. In the guest room she hid several items that had some use or other but didn't fit in her pack.

Spoiler

A young boy named Delon told Isa of killings and disappearances in his home town Imnesvale, a village in the Umar Hills. The rogue decided to travel there and see if she could be of any help. She slew a Killer Mimic and a rebellious Stone Golem for a local Cowled Wizard, and received a nifty short sword as a reward.

Spoiler
Isa's research hinted at evil happenings in the nearby Amanautar Temple Ruins. She encountered them infested with different types of undead and two Bone Golems. With some patience and with lots of (extra) healing potions, the Halfling managed to clear the place.
Spoiler
Near the exit Isa slipped past a dormant Shadow Dragon, and back outside she used a scroll of PfUndead to exterminate a Shadow Altar, a Shadow Warrior and a Shade Lord unmolested.
Spoiler
Isa was unwilling to postpone dealing with the evil creatures (and allowing them to make more victims), and a rather pragmatic lass at heart, so she chose a scroll of PfUndead over a more 'heroic' intervention.

(In Athkatla she was proved right, as battling Vampires alongside Arkanis Gath and Ryokoi resulted in her level-drained once more.)

Isa's next move was to take on the Slaver Stockade, as she had promised Hendak, former slave, and the Copper Coronet's new manager. In the sewers leading to the slavers' stronghold, she noticed an increased precision in her attacks with the off-hand (level 16 was reached, a 3rd pip went to TWF, mostly for RP reasons: her adventures hadn't yielded her any appealing weapon that she was unfamiliar with and wanted to train herself in).
Solving a riddle saw Isa rewarded with an enchanted greatsword that conferred several immunities upon the wielder. The Halfling found it too hefty, and sold it.

Having quaffed a potion of clarity and applied an oil of speed, Isa snuck into the Slaver Stockade in an almost care-free manner. She chose her first target, a Priest of Cyric, and dispatched him before he could cast a single spell.

Spoiler
A Divine Wrath helped her control a crowd of fighters that closed in on her, but she nevertheless found she had taken several blows once she was done with the ruffians.
Spoiler
She slew two Trolls (Tuigan Bow and acid arrows) and two Tuan-Ti, and rescued a couple of child slaves. A second potion of clarity allowed Isa to safely dispatch a second contingent of slavers, which included two wizards.
Spoiler
The Halfling was thanked by Hendak and walked off to the Docks District to finish the job she had started for Renal Bloodscalp.

A potion of defense and an oil of speed were very helpful against Mae'Var's men, but even so, she suffered several nasty stabs on the first and second floor.

Spoiler
These events warned Isa to be extra careful in the cellars, where Mae'Var and his best assassins awaited her. Isa set four snares near the stairs so that she could safely retreat if necessary. Mae'Var did Isa a favor by injuring his own men with a Sunfire.
Spoiler
However his assassins were as dangerous as expected.
Spoiler
Both Kitthix and Isa's Berserk warrior were toothless before Mae'Var's and his men, but her Efreeti handled the enemy with surprising ease.
Spoiler
Renal proved true to his word: with Mae'Vars fall, the guild house was Isa's.

In the same Docks District, Isa eliminated two evil wizards for the local Harpers,

Spoiler
and she looted the Harper Stronghold before they used her as a tool to kill Xzar, the Necromancer she had briefly met on the Sword Coast.

She visited Gaelan Bayle and paid him 15k GP hoping the Shadow Thieves would bring her closer to Imoen. Shadow master Aran Linvail rose a number of barriers though. The first two, monitoring a shipment and dealing with two betrayers and their contact, were no big deal. But the third task she was asked to perform, eliminating the Shadow Thieves' rivals, a guild of Vampires, all by herself, was too much to ask of her at that point. She told Aran Linvail she would first have to find a way to handle the Vampires' draining attacks.

At the guild the Swashbuckler bought two new items, a ninja-to and a buckler:

Spoiler
This left her with almost no gold, so she accepted another commission.

She would clear a noble family's keep, the d'Arnise Hold, that had been invaded by Trolls and Yuan-Ti. The Trolls, including Spirit variants (with no spell-casting abilities) fell easily enough. Despite her non-proficiency with bows, her Tuigan Bow and acid arrows proved very effective. A Yuan-Ti Mage too, learned of Isa's skill with her bow, and it helped her by getting caught in its own Web.

Spoiler
The Halfling also dispatched a group of Golems, but found her weapons useless against a Clay Golem. This worried her. She slew several more Trolls before she traveled to Athkatla on Guild business.

In the city she dealt with a group of Thieves loyal to Mae'Var and the Night Masks, and she procured 200 lbs of true illithium for Sir Sarles on behalf of the Temple of Helm (I also had the fake illithium but forgot to drop the real deal on the ground before speaking to Sarles).

Isa traveled to Trademeet to buy the Blackblood Club, a weapon she hoped would be effective against slashing-immune creatures such as Clay Golems. (Sarles had helped Isa reach level 20. Although Staves are my preferred blunt weapon, for dual-wielding Isa Clubs made sense, both mechanically and for a RP reason, the Blackblood she had already seen.)

The Halfling returned to the d'Arnise Keep, and dispatched the Clay Golem with her new club, as well as several respawned Trolls.

Spoiler
In the basement of the Keep, five Umber Hulks taught her not to try her luck against them:
Spoiler
She was more successful bottlenecking the monsters.

Four traps and an acid arrow finished the Troll leader,

Spoiler
Isa proceeded to melee an Umber Hulk Elder and two Giant Trolls, but only managed to slay the former before one of two Yuan-Ti Mages prompted her to retreat.
Spoiler
With clarity, speed, invisibility, Blackblood and acid arrows the Halfling bested one Yuan-Ti Mage, while running from three Spirit Trolls and a Spectral Troll.
Spoiler
When she was done with said Trolls the other Yuan-Ti wizard fell after a similar treatment.

Isa returned to Athkatla, a richer and more experienced adventurer and thief. Such was her pickpocketing prowess (145), that with the Gloves of Pickpocketing, a potion of master thievery, and a potion of perception, she rewarded herself with a shoplifting tour of the city.

Kaxir speeds through the Hell Trials - his magic resistance potions only last for two hours. Firetooth is used to deal with two balors and two glabrezu. The Infinite Spellbook Truesight is used and Kaxir sets about Irenicus.

A circuit of the area reveals Irenicus in Slayer form. Kaxir throws Firetooth and sees 1 damage. GWW+. Slayercus responds with Improved Mantle, Spell Turning and Mislead. A few rounds later, Slayercus is still moving after Kaxir but Firetooth hits for 28. GWW+.

The Slayer form reverts to Irenicus and a Fireshield plus protective globe are established but he is already defeated.

Kaxir shrugs. Illasera is out of her depth. So far out that he already barely remember brushing her aside.

After discovering his personal Pocket Plane and giving Sarevok yet another chance to breathe, it is time for a challenge. Kaxir holds back, picking off enemy after enemy while slowly losing health. He finally relents, using Hardiness and GWW as Sarevok and Bodhi approach. They badly wound him but Irenicus is unable to take advantage.
Spoiler
Edit: Kaxir forgot about Saradush. A quick run through posed no problems with Cespenar upgrading Foebane in time to use it against Gromnir. Once done, it was time to Pocket Plane out of there.

Spoiler
Nyalee finds her guardians are too weak to make much of a dent in Kaxir's defences, so the Foebane healing boosts the Kensai hit points into the 300's.
Spoiler
Hardiness and one hit scare Yaga Shura off. Kaxir uses Sandthief Invisibility to await his return, and the group arrive at his exact location. The Lieutenant Mage is casting True Sight so Kaxir melees her then the cleric before moving away and cutting down the fighter and thief.
Spoiler
With no lieutenants left, Kaxir switches to Firetooth and ignores the officers around him to deliver a single GWW assault on their leader.
Spoiler
With this victory, he is dragged back to the Pocket Plane to discover about his past, and while there he deals with an alternate version of what he could have been.

Kaxir is back at the Watchers Keep level 3 Maze. The difference - Foebane can be used to reduce the chance of hit points sinking into the stun zone.
- Succubi and Alu-Fiends demand the Improved Mace of Disruption / Adjatha weapon combo.
- Ka'Rasuhur and his allies get the same, though there may have been no need to do so.
- Two Glabrezu are Foebane'd quickly, meaning Wave only has one Greater Fire Elemental and one Ice Salamander to kill.
- Tieflings are GWW'd, mage first.
- Firetooth and Infinite Spellbook True Sight are used to deal with the Cambion and Demon Knights.
- The Demon Wraith almost get Kaxir. A Superior Healing potion is used but he still ends up with 30hp. Having killed all the Slave Wraiths and a false Demon Wraith the real deal resists Foebane and the Flail of Ages effects but Kaxir sticks with the flail and is victorious. Ugh.
Spoiler

Kaxir chooses to gamble with Aesgareth, and loses. Slowed.
Second time lucky? Nope - loses again. Assassins. With Hardiness and Mirrors already running GWW's are used.
The final time sees another loss, slowed. Aesgareth certainly saw this fool coming.

The next level has lots of scaries but Kaxir is relatively comfortable. His immunity to normal weapons foils gith warriors while the remainder are quickly cut down. A demilich pays for imprisoning a previous adventurer.
Spoiler
while a red dragon manages to disrupt one GWW and buffet Kaxir almost ouf of his hall but the stocky dwarf returns to administer a final bludgeoning.
Spoiler

An illithid encampment only holds one horror - Kaxir being careful to loot as few containers as possible (there's a maze trap in the southern part if I recall but I'll only risk the container near the apprentice and the two in the north-western rooms for half a rod and a red oil).

Carston is removed from the machine of Lum the Mad, and Kaxir fiddles with the various levers and buttons before leaving for the fifth level. The horde allows him to get 400+ hit points
Spoiler
before dealing with a green dragon and out-foxing a riddler. A table-top challenge as the Eternal Warrior is done and then Kaxir wonders whether to continue or return to his main task.
Baldr128.jpg

Appendum.
Kaxir consults the oracle (which, today, is http://mikesrpgcente...aps/ar3019.html, to check what items are left) and decides he really could do with a Serpent Shaft before leaving. In for a penny.

Isadora, Halfling Swashbuckler, BG2 update 3 (final)

Isa successfully dealt with Mencar & Co, and cleared the Sewers of all evil. She went on to investigate the Cult of the Eyeless. In Ghoul Town she ran into a Lich, so she she quickly moved on to the lair of the Unseeing Eye. Strangely traps + rod + Efreeti Fireball didn't kill the invisibility-ignoring Eye. But with some difficulty she managed to flee from it, locate it in the northern part of the area, and slay it with a Necklace of Missiles fireball.

Spoiler
She proceeded to finish a number of Gauths and Beholders, mostly with traps and fire.
Spoiler
When the coast was clear she summoned her Berserk Warrior as a decoy, hid in shadows and moved toward the exit. One of the two Death Tyrants there killed the Berserk Warrior and presumably Death Rayed Isa.

I don't really understand how this was possible. My theories:
- either her stealth failed and revealed her immediately (which is unlikely because of her 220 overall stealth points and because there's always a delay before a skilled sneak becomes visible after failing to hide),
- or the Death Tyrants saw through Isa's invisibility (which iirc in my BGT install they don't),
- or one of the Death Tyrants' rays intended for the Berserk Warrior somehow ended up hitting her after the Berserk Warrior fell.

Oh no Blackraven :(

Those are always the worst deaths, when the cause of death isn't entirely certain.
