Updated the link for the Kangaxx battle. Fell asleep. Really rainy out here.

Anyway, thanks, Alesia. I figured as much as to why my Spell Turning was getting stripped really quickly. I think I have to just recast it, because I'm afraid CC is out of the question for Monty when it comes to reestablishing defenses. I can't memorize 9th level spells so I think I have to make do with my protections.

The downside to revamped HLAs for bards is that they lose out on some abilities so I can't make "permanent" proactive preparations like traps, only "temporary" ones like buffs. Anyway, I will make do with a super-abundance of scrolls.

Thanks, Alesia. Too lazy to run WK but I might in the next few hours. I just need to read up on how many changes SCSII and aTweaks did to components that might appear there.

Condolences on the Minsc-chunking, Corey. Good luck as you move forward. Perhaps you could take care of Boo?

@ SoS

If you have a spare level 5 slot, you can protect your ST from MMM with SI:Alt. It won't protect you from the physical damage but it will stop the fire portion from eating your ST- at least it does in my install.

Best,

A.

Globe of invulnerability (regular or minor) will also stop them  - unless SoS uses Spell Revisions, which sets the power of the meteors and energy blades to zero.

That makes sense and I would expect it to work. I tired testing it in my install and it didn't though- not sure why.

Of course, if it does work in your game, that would often be a more desirable solution then SI:Alt- level 5 can get pretty tight.

Best,

A.

Zallon the berserker > cleric - Final Update

As we were traveling around Faerun, a daughter of a friend of Jan's got sick, and of course we had to go get her healed. A lot of running around, but eventually we had to confront some Githyanki seekers. They aren't too bad but the Mordy sword they summon is a pain. After a lot of effort Nalia and Zallon prevailed.

Next we headed to Umar Hills. Some kilings going on, but we found out clues where to go in Marella's cabin. So Zallon, Naila and Jan go out there and battle some shadows. Tried to be careful, and no real problems. With two lightning rods and several NPP memorized to protect Mazzy while she tanked the shadow dragon, we decided to take down. Only had to resurrection wand heal Mazzy once! The Shade lord was defeated pretty easily with all our buffs still running.

When we headed back to report our success, encountered some surly rangers. With a cloudkill, and hold persons (of both cleric and mage variety), rangers couldn't put much resistance and fell.

Zallon gave the 15,000 gold to Gaelen and got another level and in particular and decided to memorize globe of blades. We headed to the temple sewers. Nalia cast non-detection on him, Zallon cast globe of blades, a haste potion and sanctuary. He ran to Tarnor's group and just stood there. This was almost totally successful - only Gaius survived thanks to his great save vs. spells. Now if I was thinking properly I would have put up my remove fear spell because Gaius likes to horror. However, maybe due to my very long work week, I forgot about it and had the party move up to help me engage him. We still don't have breach spell yet. Zallon DID get feared, and thanks to his haste ran smack dab in the kobold/rakshaka group and got held. The party was too far away, and Zallon had the resurrection wand and we couldn't get at it since he was held. His death was quick. RIP Zallon.

Time to re-roll a new character in BG 1.

@polytope

Check some of my videos, especially the Kangaxx fight. MGoI was up almost the whole time and MMM gets through without a hitch. I checked Kangaxx's file and it's a real MMM and not some spell or attack that uses the MMM projectile animation.

@Alesia

Seems like I have to test that one out. SI:Alt makes sense because Spell Turning considers it a spell anyway. If it doesn't, then that probably is one of the biggest conflicts in the game. I just have to sleep this flu through, first. Came down with it last night while running Kangaxx, what a bummer.

@Corey

I have, since my first few forays, learned that Remove Fear is a very good investment in *any* battle. I had been abusing Horror on Planetars for so long, I'm very wary of getting a karma attack. Condolences on your run, brother. I guess this pretty much leaves Monty alone for a while... :/

As Corey mentioned, Grond0's Shael should arrive shortly. Alena is on her way as well. She kind of stalled out because she had to raise funds to finance her Cloakwood expedition but she's almost ready to roll now. There are a number of others en route to.

Good Hunting,

A.

Btw. Condolences Corey. Best of luck with your next run!

This might be another TobEx issue, as meteors are definitely blocked by GoI in vanilla and previous versions of SCSII.

I figured out what was up with the magic damage resistance & TobEx; the game somehow reads magic resistance for magic damage resistance i.e. a demon with 50% MR takes half damage from magic. Golems take none.

@Corey, condolences on your loss. I bet a lot of no-reloads end against that party in the sewers. I hate those guys!

You took down a shadow dragon and got felled by a kobold shaman.... so sad.

Monty the Blade Update:

Just minor quests. Trying to iron out the stronghold mishmash so that I can explore the bard stronghold exclusively. After that, profits of all functioning strongholds will be utilized for making boatloads of scrolls and potions.

Also, lvl41 and loving it. Anyway, videos of the following soon enough:
- "Umar"
- Planar Sphere ambush
- Lord Ketlaar Argrim

Boring battles but, meh, nothing much to do until Monty raids WK.

Finished compressing and uploading the videos. Really short ones, nothing big.[quote]
Monty vs "Umar"
Monty vs Planar Sphere Ambush Squad
Monty vs Lord Ketlaar Argrim

Strategy:

Buff, enter, kill. Buff, enter, kill. Buff, enter, imprison, kill. Oh, do note that "Umar" died faster than the Gelugon that spawned in the dungeon. Bad day for her to be sorely unprepared.

@Corey: That is the second time I have seen someone post on this thread that they have lost their main character to Fear from that party in the sewers. Windfoot did the same thing about a month ago. Pretty darn effective spell!

I guess the lesson is to buff with Remove Fear whenever possible. It lasts an hour, which is long enough for a decent adventuring foray.

BTW, yes I am back here! Wierdo the female gnome illusionist/thief is still adventuring! Will post a summary update soon. She and her party are currently just about finished with Chapter 2 of SOA and are doing much of Watcher's Keep before going to Spellhold.

Minsc died to the the Storm Knights as we stormed the Temple of Talos for Lathander! Ironically, they were on the way out of the temple at the time. But nevermind, this gave an opportunity to introduce Starria the Ranger/Cleric! She had been with Wierdo in the early part of BG1, but had died to a freak ankheg attack. She did not die irrevocably, but I chose to let her rest with Bjornin at the Jovial Juggler for a while. This meant that I could take a few other NPCs into the party at the time.

Somewhere along the way Wierdo dumped Nalia, picked up Valygar for the Planar Sphere quest, then ran with Edwin for quite a while.

While the party had Edwin they tracked down and killed a number of liches around the city, including the elemental liches and the 'rogue stone' doorway. There were many epic battles involved. Edwin's glory reached a peak when he killed an elemental lich with Prismatic Spray (disintegrated the lich)!

Edwin did the Nether Scroll quest and became a woman! Wierdo likes her that way. So, when the enemy mage came looking for Eddie, we killed him instead! Not usually Wierdo's style but hey , the guy LOOKED evil, alright!?

The party eventually went to find Firkraag and killed him without too much fuss.

Eventually Wierdo dumped Edwin(a) and went to defeat the Shade Lord at the Temple Ruins near Umar Hills. In the ruins she recovered Mazzy, who is a Paladin (Inquisitor) in my game. We asked her to join and offered her Carosymr (Holy avenger sword) as an incentive. Took out the Shadow dragon and then immediately went up to take on the Shade Lord. Under my install of SCSII the Shade Lord used an area-effect level drain with sucked (literally), but otherwise it was a pretty uneventful fight.

Now the party is doing parts of Watcher's Keep before Spellhold. They are down to level 3 so far, which is the teleport maze with lots of SCSII-enhanced demons running around. I prevaricated a lot before going into this maze before doing Spellhold/Underdark, but convinced myself that the potentially cool items would be worth it!

As I am using the Item Randomiser mod, I am always on the lookout for certain cool items. Sometimes I am surprised, sometimes disappointed, but it is always interesting! Just found the Eye of Tyr, which means Mazzy can upgrade Carosmyr :innocent:

In Watcher's Keep the party has found some very interesting items like Wong Fei's Ioun stone, The Heart of the Damned, Ice Star +4, a Rod of Reversal and 2-3 Wands of Spell Striking. Those last two items will be very useful to have in the Underdark and before confronting Irenicus.

Killing the Chromatic Demon was quite hard. He was 100% resistant to physical damage. All damage had to be elemental. Took a long time. Was a bit scared to do the demon maze because SCSII improves fiends significantly. But it may be worth the risk because of the cool items there.

Halfway through the Demon Maze already now. Demons are tough but not too tough. Having Mazzy with Carosmyr and Starria Ranger/Cleric with Flail of Ages and a hatred for demonic/fell creatures helps a lot. Starting to get nervous about Aesgareth and the Deck of Many Things.

Wierdo's party is currently at:

Wierdo gnome female  Illusionist(13)/Thief(16), killed Statue (level 1, WK)
Annakin human male    Berserker(12) ****** Mage(14), killed Chromatic Demon (& Master of Thralls!)
Bruce human male       Monk(20), killed Firkraag (and the Shadow Dragon!)
Starria half-elf female    Ranger(12)/Cleric(14), killed Ulitharid
Jaheira half-elf female   Fighter(13)/Druid(14), killed Shade Lord
Mazzy halfling female    Paladin(17), killed Skeleton Warrior (big deal?)

Today, I had some time to play a little bit of BG2, so I continued my no-reload run with Arinja, the (now level 26) solo Totemic Druid. Got *Two-Handed Weapons during this segment.

I quickly did all the Brynnlaw quests - helped Ginia, killed Perth, defeated Galvena's Guards with Nature's Beauty and finished the lady and her wizard with energy blades.

Arinja entered Spellhold, got captured and had to defeat Bhaal. She solved all the asylum riddles, used her summoning powers to slay some Yuan-Ti and the portal enemies, took the bag of holding and went to the next level. There, after fighting a group of kobolds in fire elemental form, Arinja summoned a Deva to slay the undead, most notably the lich waiting at the south. With Dace killed by a spirit lion, the druid went on to the next level.

Spirit Animals cleared the whole level with Arinjas helped, and a CC'ed Deva defeated the Mindflayer. Got Boots of High North and of Grounding because I already have Boots of Speed.

After completing the challenges, it was time to face Joneleth for the first time. No special tactics here - Arinja simply buffed with everything she regularily has in her spellbook, including energy blades, went back and waited. She killed her clone with the blades while Wanev was using his high level spells, and eventually summoned a Deva. Arinja attacked Jon with the remaining energy blades while the deva dispelled some of his magics, and eventually, Jon had to flee without doing any harm (even some of the prisoners were still alive until the autokill event). Interestingly, Wanev's summoned Efreet was under my control now, but he used fireball, turning the Deva hostile. Had to summon Zaaman Ruul and Fire Elementals to defeat her before leaving for Brynnlaw.

There, Arinja got the horn to sail with Saemon. After the accident, she's in the Sauaghin City now, having defeated the ettin.

Update for Arinja, level 26 solo totemic druid,

Arinja defeated the Sahuagin priestress and therefor has a new cloak now. Got the tooth, killed the sea zombies, made a deal with the rebel prince and killed the king.

In the Underdark, Arinja summoned a fire elemental/deva group to take out some drow and some mykonids (who were surprisingly tough - had to take the colonies out with energy blades myself).

For the underdark, Arinja changed her level 5 spellbook, now learning 6 chaotic command spells (necessary for Balor and Demon Knights, since all the summons should be buffed). That in mind, the druid summoned 4 elementals/1 deva, buffed with CC and Remove Fear and killed the Balor. She also got into a fight with some kua-toa, but decided not to go for the illithid or beholder lairs. Beholders are, as mentioned some weeks ago, the most difficult vanilla enemy for a totemic druid, and if there is not a very good reason to challenge them, why do so ?

Far more important was the demon knight battle, because of the new belt. Strategy was the same as for the Balor. Arinja and her little army took the demon knights out one by one, though they managed to kill all the initial summons - but with resummoning during combat, the druid managed to slay the final demon knight as well.

Some Fire Elementals and Spirit Animals killed the hordes of kua-toa, before elemental prince + deva defeated the kua-toa prince.

Now, it was time to enter Ust'Natha. Arinja bought Firetooth +2, Staff of Earth +2 and some potions before accepting the first quest. First, she had to deal with the shadow thieves group, but Sunnis did this one pretty much on his own.
She summoned elementals+deva, buffed cc on everything and spoke to Solaufein. The mind flayers were killed rather quickly.  The next quests weren't spectacular either. Having learned from my last no-reload solo totemic druid, Titania, Arinja didn't engage the Beholder, but instead had a Deva + the two Drow kill it while staying out of sight. Brought the patrol's helm to Phaere, pretended to kill Solaufein, used Faery Dust, Energy Blades and Ring of Air Control to exchange the eggs and watched the lesser demon lord kill the drow.

Back with Adalon, Arinja tried to escape, and, after some summoning and fighting, finally left the underdark behind her. After talking to Elhan and Drizzt, buying the Helm of Intelligence, Sling of Seeking and some additional potions and scrolls, she entered the graveyard, buffed with CC immediatly, summoned a deva to kill the vampires but decided not to go on now. Instead, Arinja recruited the other two allies and went to the three new forest areas. The North Forest battle was mainly won due to a perfectly placed Prince of Air- his globe of blades killed lots of the enemies while the time was stopped due to the high level mage. Arinja chased after the remaining enemies, blocking a maze spell the mage cast on her with the shield of archons and defeated them. In Tethyr Forest, the druid helped Coran, killed some mists and fought Wyvern Worshippers. Next time, Arinja will challenge Bodhi.

If anyone is interested in hearing about specific tactics or item choices, just ask. Since my usual way of playing the totemic druid didn't change a lot since chapter 2, I don't want to bore you by mentioning all the buffs and summons I use in regular battles.

Quick Note on Alana's Game;

Good News and Bad News.

Good News: Alana has escaped the dungeon and is now resting in the Copper Coronet.

Bad News: I am already missing Stealth terribly. I expect Alana to fall. If and when that happens, I'll pick up my Archer, Alia's game rather than going back to BG1. She completed a BG1 No Reload a few weeks ago. I never imported her.

Best,

A.

Quick Note on Alana's Game:

Phew. Alana has made it through the critical period. She has plugged the holes in her defenses and is now prepped and ready for Trademeet.

So far, the Claw of the Kazgaroth (imported from BG1) has been the star of the show. The biggest threat from early SCSII mages is Charm Person (Save v Spells at +3). With the Claw and the Chateau Irenicus RoP, Alana's Save v. Spells is 2. That has granted Alana a welcome degree of freedom without tapping her potion stock.

With Stinking Clouds on the horizon -and the Greenstone Amulet far off- Alana and her Claw will have to part ways for awhile. It has already played an important role in her adventure however. I'll post with more info on Alana's early travels soon.

Best,

A.

Monty the Blade Update:

Slow progress because I've been in bed for quite a while. Flu's killing me. Anyway, Monty's finished the Keep stronghold quests and the Astral Prison series. Compressing and uploading videos for the battles with Lord Roenall, the amazing battle with Mekrath that barely lasted a turn, and the really scary battles with the Master of Thralls and the Warden himself (actually, it was the Warden's Planetar that I had to be scared of).

Good luck to everyone! Alesia, you're finally here! Good luck to you too.

I have been absent for a while, but over the last couple of days i have caught up on this thread...a lot of activity in the last few weeks, which has inspired me to join the fray. Especially appreciated Alesia's recent run with a BH, and the ongoing efforts of SoS, Corey and others, all of which are enlightening, entertaining, and inspiring.

Also, big kudos to Saros, who in my mind is the Hero of Improved Anvil v5 and v6. What a difficult and tedious mod, and his execution (in spite of, or perhaps because of, heavy exploits) is brilliant. Although I share Alesia's viewpoint concerning having to deal with unpleasant persons (which is why I abandoned BWL and IA) a couple of years ago, I have to admit that the quest related aspects of the mod are brilliant and very well executed. I just dont have the patience to wade through hordes of enemies with almost maxed resistances in every category.

Saros commented that IA v5 is the ultimate solo tactical challenge. Perhaps, I will revisit IA v5 after modding the CRE files to eliminate the most egregious resistance cheese, so that a variety of characters (other than a FMT or FMC or F/M) can complete the game on core or harder--perhaps even, omg forbid, a sorcerer, a pure class thief, or even an archer. Even if I will be playing in my own modded game, which others will probably find uninteresting, at least it would provide a change and perhaps a greater challenge compared to vanilla or vanilla + SCS.

But in the meantime, I have yet to complete a trilogy no-reload, and that is my first priority. I am currently running a berserker through BG1 on a fast track, who will be dualed to a thief at level 9 in BG2. I hope to arrive in Atkatla this evening sometime, and will make an appropriate entry submission at that time. Good luck to everyone.
