Little update of BlackStrider & Co

Band Of Six made short Tour de Planes and we have our personal Planar Sphere as studio (quite unusual acoustic is here which allows us to record some interesting effects) now. Not much to tell here - brute force (and support of Air Elemental) under couple of Haste helped with Demon's annihilation (all of them), Improved Invisibility (plus Cloak Of Non-Detection) vs mages, Tansheron's Bow vs Golems (Stone, Iron) and Jaheira's Club +3, Blackblood vs Clay Golems. We returned the Solamnic Knights to their home and assigned the first task to our new Apprentices. Now thinking about some vampire hunting (third Aran's job)...

to be continued...

This is the continuation of my run with Athos the Barbarian. We last saw him shortly after he entered the underdark and did the first few quests there. I then went on what turned out to become almost a one-year hiatus, but he's still alive!

Athos - Barbarian 20
Valygar - Stalker 18
Imoen - Thief 7, Mage 18

Phaere gave them 3 days of free time, so Athos decided to check out the beholder lair he had heard about. They went in under stealth and invisibility (for Athos) at first to take a look and found an Elder Orb along with a regular beholder guarding the entrance. Debating for a while, they decided that Imoen would unleash her triple sunfire and hopefully take down both adversaries, while Athos and Valygar would protect themselves from fire. The Elder Orb apparently could see invisibility and cast anti-magic ray on Athos, but too late - the sunfires hit while Athos was still protected. The EO was badly injured, the beholder near death, but both still standing. Fortunately, Athos and Valygar could finish off the EO before it got off any spells. They then attacked the beholder and quickly killed it without problems. The whole battle took no more than 3 seconds.
The reward was well worth the effort: Bracers of Blinding Strike and Vhailor's Helm! Both will be passed around as needed, but probably mostly used by Athos.
A group of drow was taken out, then Imoen's image summoned a bunch of skeleton warriors that helped taking out further beholders and gauths. More skeleton warriors summoned by Imoen personally took out almost all the rest, occasionally aided by Valygar or Athos. The final EO was injured by Imoen's triple skull trap, then lured out by Kitthix, which got imprisoned. The EO was subsequently taken down by Athos' Simulacrum (thanks, Vhailor's helm!). The beholder lair has been cleared.

Back in Ust'Natha, Imoen fought 3 mages that wanted to challenge her but stood no chance. Her Simulacrum did most of the job for her, summoning Ras, the berserker and the efreet. Fighting the mages in quick succession, the summons were still waiting when the next battle started and they hardly got any spell off.

Since they still had plenty of free time, they rested, Imoen prepared her spells, and off it was to the mind flayer tunnels. Athos can get an AC of -12 with a shield and is immune to all their innates thanks to his saves, so as long as I'm careful with the INT drain (he has INT 11), it shouldn't be too hard. Imoen prepared two images and a simmy, she used one image for each of the two larger groups we encountered. The image in turn summoned a simmy and a bunch of skeleton warriors, cast Death Spell to kill the umber hulks and the odd buff like imp haste before it expired. Otherwise it was just a matter of slowly drawing out enemies with Athos, creating bottlenecks with Valygar under stealth so he won't fight too many at once. The whole dungeon was uneventful, through liberal image use, no battle was remotely challenging and Athos didn't get INT drained a single time. Yet, at the end we found one of the key items for this run: the Defender of Easthaven!
At level 19, Athos now has 20% base physical resistance. DoE adds 20% to that and with a further 100k XP he should get his first HLA, which will probably be hardiness. 80% resist plus all saves negative sounds nice. :D

A few drow quests later, Athos reaches level 20. Hardiness is chosen. This will be fun...
We killed a few slimes and priests, practically no damage taken. The lich in the tower was killed by running away, outwaiting his PfMW, then Athos and Valygar quickly hacking through his stoneskin. He yielded yet another powerful item: Vecna's robe. We are starting to get really well equipped now. :)
We tried out Athos' new 80% resistance against the guards of house Jaellat. There are plenty of them, but they're all melee fighters. It's so beautiful to see him take just 3 or 4 damage per hit. :) And the reward...the final family member carries the Staff of the Magi. This is getting better and better.
While finishing up the drow quests, Imoen reached level 18, picking Improved Alacrity. She actually hasn't yet learned any level 9 spells, but IA is likely the best choice for now anyway. We actually found the Amulet of Power recently, she will wear it now along with Vecna. Thanks to her levelup and these items, she has now become a truly powerful mage.

We bought a few more items from the drow merchants before leaving, most notably Belm and the Sling of Everard. The group then returns the eggs and exits the underdark, fights a few more drow and finally arrives at the elven war camp.

To Spellhold and Beyond

Time for an update on Wierdo's adventures. Sorry to keep you waiting :D

Wierdo's party now claim Demogorgon's scalp, and is at 4.8m xp. So the Whole spellhold, sahaugin and underdark thing were actually all relatively easy, even with SCSII and improved beholders and improved Irenicus etc.

In Aran Linvail's lair, Wierdo pickpocketed two daggers from the torturer in Aran's lair: Plaguebearer and Longtooth.

Bodhi's lair wasn't too hard. Even with SCSII and improved vampires. Mazzy and Bruce had protection from level drain (Greater Pearl Sutra Necklace and Amulet of Power) so Wierdo just sent them up front and everyone else provided support.

Got the Cloak of Reflection (electrical damaged only) from Bodhi's lair.

Off to Spellhold! Rushed through Brynnlaw. Got a bard's Harp of Confusion from the riddle faces in Spellhold. Wierdo successfully navigated the rest of the maze below spellhold and surprised even Bodhi at the end of it! Geez, any old excuse and these wimps run away!

Image IPB

Irenicus was slow off the mark. Wierdo's band got him down to injured before he managed to get his magic defences up (even with SCSII). Within a round or two, spells flung from Wierdo and Annakin stripped him naked and Bruce's Dragon Fist finished the job. Irenicus was then a big wooz and ran away with his tail between his legs as well (Boooo!).

Image IPB

The party boarded Saemon's boat and went down to the Sahaugin fish city.  There they were given a choice by the fishies:

Image IPB

Sahuagin City was a breeze, but no Cloak of cheese. Found a Staff of Earth - which makes the complete set. The party sided with the King initially. Bruce really showed his stuff beating up some scale-heads.

Image IPB

Found the longsword 'Namarra' on the Sea Zombie Lord. Found the +2
longsword Ras and a +4 Spear of Withering (rebel prince) on different
Sahaugin as well. All in all, rather profitable.

Image IPB

As a reward from the King, The Rod of Lordly Might was substituted by a Rod of Terror, but the party ended up with two Rods of Terror and four magical ropes after pickpocketing all the non-hostile lizard-fish things and looting the treasury, then being rewarded with the same items.

The Underdark

Wierdo has now penetrated the Underdark and has defeated a party of Drow wimps. The balor demon up at the gnome encampment was a bit tougher, but it died all the same. Time to visit Adalon.

Image IPB

Whupped the Kuo-Toa and visited their statue to Demogorgon.  Huh, kinda funny seeing this after defeating the real deal. Wierdo sacrificed a skeleton and kinda-hoped that the big guy would come, but it seems that he will be trapped in the abyss for another 100 years or so! Some primer must have slain his material form. Oh wait! It was us! Oh how these trivial things get forgotten ....

Instead, the party got some demon knight bad-dudes who were kinda wimpy and died pretty quick. Hey guys, say hello to your boss for us, will ya? See ya in a century or so!

Image IPB

Treasure from the demon knights in the Kuo-Toa lair includes the fabled Staff of the Magi (WOW!!) and +4 Soul Reaver sword.

Wierdo now has the SotM ... muahahahaha!

The party cleared out the beholder nest with lots of Fire Storms and Incendiary Clouds, Fireballs etc.

Image IPB

As the whole party was immune to fire, including the fire elementals, devas and planetar summons, it was a good way of wiping out common beholders very quickly. They also found that you can happily mix-n-match Fireballs with Holy Smite for a combo effect.

Image IPB

Elder Orbs were a bit trickier. the last one (and very last beholder-kin) managed to Imprison Jaheira. However, a Freedom scroll fixed that up.  Lucky it wasn't Wierdo. Now here is the tricky part - Jaheira had Shield of the Archons active at the time. How did Imprisonment get past that? Hmmm.

Mind Flayers

The party penetrated the Mind Flayer lair and won (of course). I just thought that I would show you these three still-frames of action from one battle. First, the party sneaks up on the flayers invisibly and prepares to cast big spells.

Then the illithid see Annakin and cast Detonate at him (instand casting time). It is a race ... but Anni wins. His Dragon Breath spell comes out before the Detonate hits!

Image IPB

Next moment, Bruce, Wierdo and Mazzy all come out of invisibility to attack. Wierdo gets in a good backstab before hiding behind Bruce.

Image IPB

Finally, the Dragon Breath hits and sweeps the floor of mind flayers and their kind. Not a good day to be illithid. I just love a nice, neat ending!

Ust Natha's Lesser Demon Lord

The party then completed the remaining Ust Natha quests and swapped the eggs around. Naturally, the demon was unhappy and killed the drow priestesses.

Wierdo could say that this battle was a disappointment - but then, what did she expect? After all, this Lesser demon lord is merely a butler for the big guy Demogorgon, whom the party has already defeated.

Anyway, a backstab from Wierdo (using the Staff of the Magi - yes is did work!) and a whirlwind from Mazzy with her Holy Avenger did the trick and then we had a pile of smelly demon carcass.

Image IPB

Because Wierdo knew all the drow would turn hostile on the way out, she liberally sprinkled traps around previously and that made getting out a bit easier.

That was it. Time to go back to Athkatla.

I'm thinking of picking up Edwin as my BW NPC, for some extra arcane kick and let him handle (arcane) summons, buffs and some anti-magic (breach, remove magic etc, whatever Ben can't fix).

Irenicus S/M dungeon was quickly handled with some help of DBG (I am so tired of that dungeon. Urgh).

Up in the fresh air, the party sets out to do some light shopping - a scimitar and sling +2 for Ryn, and a composite shortbow +1 for Grin - before they pay the circus a visit. And no elephants! So dissappointed, although there is some trouble with this Kalah figure that needs to be fixed.

More to come.

Hmm. I'm having trouble getting 'into' the game so to speak. I have completed the circus without any troubles and Kalah met his timely demise.

Something just doesn't feel.. Right, however? So I'm contemplating starting a new game, probably a solo-run, but then comes the age old issue: What to play?

I love magic, especially the arcane kind and think I'd have a hard time playing without it.

Anyone have an idea?

Athos - Barbarian 22
Valygar - Stalker 19
Imoen - Thief 7, Mage 19

Talked to the elves, met Drizzt and enlisted his help. We dropped by Athos' keep and went on to the temple ruins, where we still have a dragon waiting for us. In summary, it took us a single spell - Imoen's project image. The image, under IA, took care of improved hasting our fighters, lowering Thax' resistance and slinging a few damage spells. Had I prepared flame arrow instead of skull traps, she could have ended the fight right there, like this it required a few melee hits to finish him off.
No important item drops, but I guess the randomizer has been kind enough to us lately. Athos hit level 21 for a second Hardiness.
We enter the Windspear hills, all the usual stuff. Samia's ambush is cleanly taken out with a triple skull trap, no survivors. Nothing of note has happened in the dungeon. Firkraag fell easily to our melee fighters, I triggered Imoen's image's IA while she was too far away and she didn't get done much more than buffing. Anyway, imp haste is all it takes.
Imoen gets up to 19, taking an extra level 6 spell. She still doesn't know any level 9 spells, IA is the only thing up there. Athos now has 3x hardiness, Valygar has a WW and GWW.

I know some people are fond of sorcerers, but a fighter/mage is always a solid choice. You can use almost any armor/weapon and have lots of spells to back you up to boot. Being multi is much a less a problem if you are solo.

Myself, I love getting a human fighter to level 9, then dual to mage - get lots of HP, but also lots of spells since I am then only leveling up in mage levels.

Hmm. I was tipping back and forth between Sorcerer (with no locks/traps) or Mage/Thief multi. But fighter/mage could also be very interesting. Especially as a dual class. Maybe with a kit for the fighter - I know kensage I supposed to be quite powerful. Or maybe bezerker, for the immunities?

After all this will not only be my first no reload, but also my first SCSII run. Thoughts?

As a dual class I think berserker mage is much stronger than kensai mage. The kensai's special abilities get stronger as he goes up in levels, so you get relatively little benefit if dualled to mage early, while the berserker's abilities are unchanged (just get more uses of it, which is not normally a requirement for the game).

Play something that will be fun to play in the early game. I don't mean to be harsh, but don't expect to get very far. With a dual class, you likely won't get to the point where both classes are active.

Vemric, LG human male monk.
Plan is to add the 3 NPC's I rarely use (*). Also leaving spell/lock xp at BG1 levels, e.g. 60xp for learning conjure air elemental.

I travel with Imoen, Jaheira who discovers she has recently been widowed and Minsc. Yoshimo is only too keen to help us, so we agree to an extra backpack. We emerge into daylight with a few of my original items; Koveras' improved ring, Sword of Chaos, Helm of Infravision, Golden Pantaloons, girdle of bluntness, Semaj's Cloak and Xan's moonblade.

Imoen is arrested, as is Irenicus. We immediately respond by trading with Ribald and Lady Yuth. Deidre is beyond our finances so we head outside and are escorted to meet Gaelan Bayle who promises to help return Imoen. We can't afford his price so he points us in the direction of Nalia.

She is poorly equipped so I lend her Imoens necklace, dagger, bracers and scrolls. Minsc hands over three wands and we set off for the city gates, only to be ambushed by Eldarin and his slavers. Their corpses are stuffed with loot so we reach the gates somewhat richer.

Flydian asks us to help Trademeet so we get him to mark it on our map and agree to help once Nalia has her home sorted out.

Once outside the city we interrupt another ambush and rescue Renfeld from a group of thugs. Nalia isn't happy about leaving her home in trouble but Renfeld is fading away fast so we return to the city and head for the docks.

It is dark when we arrive and we are forced to help some thieves fight off Hareishan. Then we have to defend ourselves from a mad cleric and finally Renfeld is returned to his friend Rylock. We are accosted by Xzar as we leave and promise to help him in due course.

Eventually we reach the de'Arnise hold, only for Nalia to tell us about the trolls. We have limited weapons to fight such creatures but agree to proceed. After speaking to Captain Arat and Daleson we forge a single Flail of Ages +2. Nalia seems happy so I decide to leave the remainder of the keep until later and search for our final companion.

We cannot find the secret entrance so kill a pair of trolls and lower the drawbridge. After killing two trolls and a greater Yuan-ti we head back to the temple district and end up in the sewers where we meet Keldorn. We must now help him not sure how much of his quest must be done before I can put it on hold.

Vemric, monk 9.
Minsc, ranger 8.
Jaheira, fighter 7 druid 9.
* Yoshimo, bounty hunter 11.
* Nalia, mage 9 thief 4.
* Keldorn, inquisitor 8.

Vemric, LG human male monk. Travelling with Minsc, Jaheira, Yoshimo, Nalia and Keldorn.

Gaal and Sasser have conflicting demands so we convince Keldorn to cool off his quest for the time being. He has a minor level drain and is in no state to continue on his own.

Delon pounces as we exit the sewers, charming Minsc into helping the villagers in the Umar hills. We obtain greater restoration from Dawnmaster Kreel and set off at once slight quirk here, have to go through the city gates to enable Umar Hills. Trademeet was available already.

There is plenty to do in Umar Hills two umber hulks shred Keldorn and Vemric, need to get them both toughened up, resulting in us having to investigate some temple ruins to the north.

Once there we agree to help Anarth, using a crystal and mirror to remove the shadows from the surface of the temple before descending. We release Mazzy Fentan, then work our way round to a shadow dragon. We carefully buff no protection from fear, only one negative plane protection, this could be fun then attack.

Our summons and Keldorn die immediately and we are in huge trouble. Yoshimo claps his hands and seven special traps only option with such a low level party bring Thaxll'ssillyia to near death. I cast divine might as Nalia casts her single lower resistance -19%. Jaheira has summoned a woodland being and doomed the dragon while Minsc heroically gulps a potion but after two more attacks he dies.

Yoshimo and I are running scared while Jaheira summons various insects before becoming confused. Nalia is using stoneskin and mirror images, and her third set of magic missiles claim victory.
Image IPB

After retrieving our belongings we rest so Jaheira can cast Harpers Call on Keldorn and Minsc. Then we review spells, rest, buff and head outside.

I kill the Shade Lord.

Jaheira calls lightning onto the Shadow Altar, badly injuring it but Nalia finishes the battle with her third flame arrow.

Off to Trademeet, quickly followed by a druid grove where Keldorn is repeatedly poisoned by spiders. Jaheira and I take turns to cure the poison before we clear a troll mound requiring two extra healing potions each for Keldorn and Vemric. Nalia claims the kills with Melfs acid arrow and flame arrow spells.

Ihtafeer and friends are tough, I kill two but we have to leave as cloudkills mount up. Keldorn buffs and returns alone to finish the job fire shield and his sword combine nicely, obtaining immunity to poison from a necklace as a reward from a nearby chest.

Keldorn and I attack spore colonies but our mind shields are useless. I survive, he does not and Jaheira casts another Harpers Call before we continue.

A few druids put up a determined resistance but we are too strong. Jaheira fighter 8 druid 10 challenges Faldorn and casts insect summons, doom, summon nymph disrupted, iron skins, summon nymph. The nymph holds Faldorn as a second nymph is summoned and Jaheira summons insects and an insect plague before adding bless and shapeshifts to a black bear. She hits Faldorn hard but a nymph adds 1 damage and wins.

Lol, I wonder if it's still Baldur's Gate there. How many times in the game did you notice this one being useful: Prevent skeletal undead from being affected by Illithids' Devour Brain attack ? Seriously, I would worry so many mods pilling up rather break up something than improve experience.

Trademeet heroes. I am recognisable, while Keldorn, Minsc and Yoshimo are not. Nalia tries to star as an ogre but Jaheira wins with the brown bear impersonation.

An argument over a mantle is resolved by handing it to High Merchant Logan Coprith. Then we speak to Neeber and accidentally scare Viekang before having our fortunes read. Keldorn, Jaheira and Minsc understand their readings while Yoshimo and Nalia have little to read. My fortune is once more enough to scare the reader.

Cromwell forges some shadow dragon armour for Minsc, then we investigate the Harper HQ for Xzar. We start by investigating the home of Prebek, only for Minsc to lose Boo. Eventually we recover him, but Keldorn wants to visit home. Soon my good man, say in about four or five chapters unless he starts to gripe.

Instead we visit Sir Sarles, then head to the promenade. Slavers and orogs waylay us, so Jaheira casts insect plague. Nalia uses our new magic licence to slow them too.

Lord Jierdan needs help with bandits, so I add it to my list. First I free the slaves so Hendak can run the Copper Coronet. Then we head underground towards the slaver compound. Jaheira raises Keldorn when a myconid king confuses me and I kick him into the ground. We shake hands and continue towards the compound.

Lol, I wonder if it's still Baldur's Gate there. How many times in the game did you notice this one being useful: Prevent skeletal undead from being affected by Illithids' Devour Brain attack ? Seriously, I would worry so many mods pilling up rather break up something than improve experience.

I expect it will make a difference if I get to the mindflayers as skeleton warriors normally die very quickly; if it turns out to be a gamebreaker it can easily be removed although I 've not got that far in a no-reload SOA before so likely my install will change for other reasons.

So far the game doesn't feel very different, although I understand your comments and I rarely run that many mods.

Slaver guards are tough. Keldorn attacks a group while I deal with "Captain" Haegan and everybody else kills the caster. Keldorn is doing fine but I have to heal twice and run from Haegan while he is cut down with missiles. The rest of the compound is straightforward, Keldorn using true sight to see through various mage protections.

Hendak is pleased with our results, but I have to return to the abandoned temple to help the brother of Ungar Hilldark. On the way Keldorn reminds me of his family and I have to convince him to wait a little longer. We quickly rescue Gorje Hilldark and return to the Firecam estate to find Keldorn has unexpected marital issues. He should calm down before confronting Sir William of Thorpe, so I decide to delay their meeting for a while.

Unger Hilldark points me in the direction of Neb for his illithium, on the way I agree to help Lt Aegisfield investigate some gruesome murders and retrieve a bronze horn of Valhalla. Salia sets two shadow thieves onto us and nearby Carbos and Shank are attacking each other. Keldorn has true sight and negative plane protection, so steps inside to deal with Neb. Chief Inspector Brega is happy to take the head of Neb and we are asked by Tolgerias to help track down Valygar.

Sir Sarles doesn't like the fake illithium so we take it and the real stuff back to the temple of Helm. They love the smudges and give Keldorn a helm of glory, and a quest for the temple of Lathander from Dawnbringer Sain. Later.

Trademeet, and Darsidian Moor. A simple job resulting in the death of Rejiek Hidesman and his collaborator, and the timely use of a recently purchased restoration scroll. Lt Aegisfield won't take our word that Rejiek is dead either.

Sansuki needs our help in the dock district. We manage to get a few spells launched and cut Del and two more vampires down despite Minsc 3 and Keldorn 5 being extremely drained. They are both tough so we carry on, getting Rylock to let us into the Harpers HQ. We grab not-Monty[/i] and fatally return him to Xzar before heading to the temple of Lathander.

Lathander's stolen ring is tracked down to Borinal and returned. I tell Nalia we are finally ready to deal with her problems.

Currently unable to open Neb's locked painting, the Harper HQ eye painting, the harper chests, Borinal's containers. Yoshimo is going to have to miss some trap dropping skill next time.

de'Arnise hold. Many of the trolls are dead, as are four of the smaller golems from Yo****raps. Glaicas hits me hard before dying after which Minsc forges the FoA +3. The final pair of golems look imposing and Yo****raps are ineffective, time to knuckle down. I kill the clay golem while Minsc and Keldorn attack the iron golem. I use healing and slow affliction to keep Minsc free of poison while Nalia lowers resistance twice. We follow with doom and magic missiles but Keldorn and Lilacor share the kill.

We head into the final area of the hold. Three trolls are dropped, then I decoy a group of umber hulks with dog food. Minsc wades into the corridor to attack them and the rest of us back him up. He's being shredded so Keldorn and I intervene. I get confused but am saved insect plague panics them and dispel magic frees me, 1hp remaining thought it was game over. I retreat to heal, while Keldorn gulps a potion and we add a fire elemental, greater malison, slow and emotion. We rest before Torgal, and Jaheira decides now is the time to use her 30 firestone bullets. Minsc has acid arrows and Yoshimo fire arrows.

Torgal chases Keldorn back to us, running into a series of snares. He reaches number four and collapses so Keldorn blocks the door as Nalia casts fireball to end his brief reign. The two remaining trolls badly wound Keldorn before dying. Nalia asks me to be her guardian thus preventing Isaea Roenall from taking both the keep and her into his unworthy hands. I accept, how much trouble can it possibly be.

I glance at Keldorn and tell him the Unseeing Eye is next or at least part of it. Yoshimo scouts ahead and spots Draug Fea and gang waiting to attack, so we buff and move in. Tarnor the Hatchetman makes the wrong choice and battle commences. Yoshimo has held three enemies in snares, while Keldorn is attacking them. We have added entangle, greater malison, web and insect plague while a berserk warrior is helping a fire elemental.

Keldorn has been stunned I don't use the free action / stun mod so it could get very interesting. Nalia casts emotion while Jaheira has a wondrous recall. Slow, insect plague, hold monster, insect summons, Melfs acid arrows. Keldorn is free and moves in to Gaius and then Gallchobhair. Tarnor is last, statuesque as we carve him up. Keldorn sighs as we head to the Copper Coronet to sell their nameless loot and stash unique items. I've spent a lot of money too sensate amulet, robe of Vecna, shield of Balduran, Sling of Seeking, ring of air control, iron horn of Valhalla.

The circus is nearer than the Unseeing Eye so I tell Keldorn we must sort that out first. It doesn't take long, what to distract Keldorn with now?.

Jierdan. 10000gp suddenly looks very suspicious.
Image IPB

No time to help Garren, "harpers" are causing trouble or raising funds for us.
Image IPB

Guards are close by so we return to the Windspear Hills.
Image IPB

Acorns are returned for the dryads then we are attacked inside Garren's house.
Image IPB

I take an energy drain but my team is still quicker than Keldorns.
Image IPB

We have to turn back shortly afterwards, with Keldorn drained to level 5 and Yoshimo drained to level 11. Trademeet temple sorts us out and we head back again and agree to help Samia eventually. Two stone golems trap and flatten Nalia, forcing Jaheira to raise her.

Minsc and Keldorn heroically battle an Adamantite golem and are very annoyed when Jaheira summons up six darts +5 and hands them to me, with my first shot killing the golem.

Chieftain DigDag is easy fodder but Tazok is far tougher than our last encounter, badly wounding myself then doing the same to Yoshimo before we can kill him. Time to parley with Firkraag. The heat is too much for us so we retreat for the time being.
Image IPB

Keldorn treats Conster to true sight and dispel magic. Minsc claims the kill.
Image IPB

Minsc volunteers for the Strohm hunt stats pre-buff, Jaheira adds fire protection for 135%.
Image IPB

Almost immediately he walks into the director. An easy victory, but would have been better with resist fire / cold instead of protection from fire. The guardians are hurting his so we rest and Jaheira casts resist and protect. The remaining guardians are then easy, allowing Yoshimo to wear the reformed mask of Strohm.

We re-equip and take the treasure of king Strohm. Samia is playing dirty, but so is Yoshimo. Samia and Kaol die immediately while Ferric Ironblade, Akae and Legdoril are held. Only Chak is in the game so we drop him first then clean up the others.
Image IPB

Back to the cavern entrance Keldorn re-organises our equipment yet again. He's going for Firkraag so I check his plan. I'm to use darts +5 then buffed Sling of Seeking with bullets +1, keeping my distance. Everybody else will have an oil of speed, we're protected from fear and Keldorn is going for flaming melee with true sight. Yoshimo has seven snares laid and arrows of ice then biting. Minsc has arrows of piercing then acid. Nalia will be mirrored stoneskin casting while Jaheira will use a sling +3 / bullets +2 before casting. We will have nymphs and a fire elemental move in while lesser summons start with Keldorn I have lost a few no-reloads to Firkraag so determined not to under-do it. Keldorn announces our intentions so it is a fair fight.

The snares bounce off stoneskins so are wasted. Keldorn is buffeted and a fireball bounces off him to kill one of the nymphs. Nalia has already cast lower resistance twice, and after throwing six darts I dive in with a scimitar idiot before returning to cast divine might and unleash my sling. Firkraag is badly wounded at this point and we think we're almost home what a mistake.
Image IPB

Nalia has cast her third and final lower resistance 3 x -21% so we follow with greater malison and doom. Keldorn gulps an extra healing potion but takes another big hit. Firkraag saves vs doom and has moved out of malison range, finally abandoning Keldorn another extra gulp to go for the fire elemental.

Keldorn returns to be buffeted away, then a second nymph is killed. Nalia casts hold monster then emotion as Jaheira casts insect plague and is dire charmed so the insects attack Keldorn I check afterwards and forgot to equip her shield - harmony. Keldorn has another valiant attempt as Firkraag turns to me my screenshots aren't working, possibly because the party are so spread out?

I'm hit once and run, managing to gulp a potion and switch to melee to try and avoid him unlikely with AC of -3. Firkraag is almost dead but he hits me again. I gulp again and he hits again getting weaker each time and can't get away, got to try a potion of invisibility if I have time. Then Nalia doubles her dragon tally, indeed the party dragon tally screenshot working again afterwards.
Image IPB

We wait for Jaheira to recover then rest. Keldorn grabs Carsomyr and we review the situation.

Vemric, monk level 11. Shade Lord. 380 kills 172 of these from BG1.
Minsc, ranger 10. vampire. 132 kills.
Keldorn, inquisitor 10. Ithafeer, 81 kills.
Jaheira, fighter 9 druid 12. 80 kills, Glaicus.
Nalia, mage 11 thief 4. 63 kills, Firkraag.
Yoshimo, thief 12. 47 kills, Samia.

@Gate70

Well done for smiting Firkraag! Magic Missile is a great way to bring him down, especially if you have two or more mages in the party.

I like the pic cropping and pic placement as well. Looks good.
