I'm sorry for your loss Stworka.

While I've been absent for extended periods, I do not recall applicable precedent. Perhaps someone else may be familiar with one.

I can not speak for everyone, but I strongly suspect the community would not consider resurrecting the chunked character to be within the rules of the challenge. Sorry...

As for filling the open slot in your party, that is something that you and your friends need to work through. So long as you are open about your procedures, I doubt you'll hear objections from anyone here.

Best of luck with the rest of your adventure! And be careful out there...

A.

Tyler, the WizardSlayer/Cleric enters the field then. (uselessness aside, how would that even work!?)
Next in line, to replace another chunked char in the future (hopefully, the WS/Cleric..), is.. Wo-Tan the Gender-confused monk..

Sometimes i wish that i never made it a community run.

Thank You for the good wishes, but we only have two major obstacles on our way. Tactics+SCSII+Omgstophittingmemom Jon in Hell, and the very last battle. I am quite confident that we will survive every other battle.

But I'm talking about the future.. For now, let us face Bodhi! Ahoy! (expect to hear from me in some time)

As for ze laptop : Try hooking your HDD to a stationary PC?

Stworka, I hope you continue to make videos of the bigger fights, it's fun to see these things in more detail. I might consider making some myself, if I could be arsed to get a mic, and were happier with my (spoken) English.

Thanks for the suggestion. It's a MacBook Air so the hardware is a bit awkward to work with. I'm also basically traveling around the world these days so I don't have a lot of tools on me.

I'm running the OS X network disc recovery tools now. I'm hoping for the best....

Best,

A.

Quick update on Wierdo the Gnome illusionist/thief:

She has completed Suldanessalar, Irenicus, hell trials and moved onto Throne of Bhaal.

About to encounter a very considerably improved Illasera, and then all that Ascension + SCSII has to throw at me. Wish me luck!

Good News and Bad News:

Good News- The Computer problem isn't as bad as I initially feared. I was able to restore from a 2 month old backup. Fortuitously, I had an older operating system on the backup and that one runs BG much better. So: I can play again and it will be more enjoyable. Yeah!

Bad News: Alora's game is well and truly fracked...

I have Alastria (Chateau) and Alana (Underdark) on this install. They are both alive. I could pick up either if there is interest.

I was enjoying Alora's game though and I'd like to resume if possible. I could, of course, recreate her in the Chateau and run her back to where she was if there are no objections (I'd be inclined to punt the potions squandered in her pre-HD failure session in this case).

If you have an opinion chime in.

Best,

A.

@Alesia

I personally vote for Alora at the moment (her run is astounding!). With Alastria and Alana following her of course...(they are enjoyable in no less) :)

@A.

You can easily recreate everything from your save, except "number of monsters killed" in about an hour, no matter how far are you.
That is using console, SK and having some patience.

Should you desire, i can aid you in this.

@Gor.
I like recording the fights, to have a solid proof. One could win the encounter with a few dozen CTRL + Y and CTRL + R, and claim to have beaten it. Showing a SS proof of the last hit. Video leaves no doubt.

Now, i'm not accusing anyone, just saying that i need such material to back up my guide on the mod fights. Saying how to do something, and SHOWING how to do something are two completely different things.
(I'd post a link to the guide, but it's OT, and resourceful, google-using people will find it anyway - It's on GBanshee)

A day in the life. Well, a few.

Killed the feuding families in Trademeet. Elven chain for Viconia - she's missed it:

Posted Image

Killed Prebek and Shanassa for the Harpers:

Posted Image

Then we killed the Harpers themselves, not that Jaheira minded. She is so true neutral.

Posted Image

As you can see, the combination of Emotion and Chaos has served us well in many battles - preceded by Greater Malison, it's almost an "I win" button. Especially when we have several wizards casting them at once.

While running errands between areas, we got ambushed a couple of times. Ironically, these battles were some of the hardest in the game, given the disadvantageous positioning and often depleted spells. Still, we managed to survive them.

We did the Shadow Thief quests for Renal, including killed Rayic Gethras. It was touch and go, since I miscast one of my spell immunities, but ultimately, Gethras fell to the Wand of Cloudkill withou casting a single spell.

Also, ran into Arkanis Gath.

Posted Image
"Mr. Cool outshining us completely."

Fallen Paladins:

Posted Image
"Fallen, eh? You soon will be."

Posted Image

Mae'Var was next. He was easy enough, with a few undead distracting him long enough for our wizards to cast Web and Chaos.  After that, Korgan (with Potion of Freedom), Kitthix, and a couple of Sword Spiders, quickly took care of them.

Posted Image

After clearing the guild hall, we found ourselves suddenly drowning - excuse the pun - in potions. That's the best thing with Chaos and Emotion: they prevent enemies from using their potions. Even with two thirds of them breaking upon death, SCS adds enough of them for that remaining third  to amount to quite a bit.

Would be interested to see the Alora approach but happy to read any of them.

Stoht, CG halfling male bounty hunter.

I tell Imoen, Minsc and Jaheira to stick together while I travel alone solo SOA is a bad choice for me. I wish I had a trio of friendly paladins and perhaps a monk to travel with me, but no such luck.

I make a bad start, poisoned by two traps both in the room with the helm of Balduran, careless, had to glug healing potions to survive. Mephits blind me once and color spray me twice. Another careless trap mis-click this time and I'm fireballed. Anyway, I claw backstab and snare my way to the surface where I watch Imoen and Irenicus get apprehended.

I purchase a scroll case and gem bag before heading into the circus. Kalah gets a backstab and panics. I chase him around and around but get hit by a shadow strength dropped to 14. I turn and run so Kalah can regain his senses. As soon as he does, I kill him.

Similar to last run, struggling when forced into a confrontation. Will try and get through it this time.

Quick Note on Alora's Game:

I'm in the process of reconstructing Alora's game. She'll be ready to resume shortly. I'll post again when she does.

Since this is a No-Reload challenge, video can't prove anything either really. Someone could fail, try again, and then just cut a video of the successful encounter...

For the record, I don't think anyone here views the screenshots or videos as "proof"- nor do any of us feel the need to "prove" anything. That isn't what the thread is about.

If someone wanted to come here and fib or cheat they could of course. And I personally wouldn't hold it against them if they did. I would, however, feel sorry for them. And I'd feel sorry for them because they've evidently missed the point. We aren't here to showoff before an anonymous crowd: we are here to share our experiences -triumphs and failures alike- with friends. And that's more rewarding than putting on a show could ever be.

Best,

A.

I whole-heartedly concur with Alesia's statement. I honestly don't think I would have tried to complete a no-reload, except for the encouragement I got in these no-reload threads when I failed. I had numerous spectatular failures for my first dozen no-reload BG 1 runs.

I would say this is a bug - not of BG but of your hard drive! So yes, restart from Chateau Irenicus would sound reasonable to me. You didn't die after all, and you aren't reloading from chunked party members, etc. I don't see why you necessarily have to repeat your previous run exactly however (e.g. ditching potions). Just how far you can get your  no-reload.

Re. Screenshots/videos as "proof" I can only agree with Alesia_BH.

That's not to say videos (or descriptions of exact tactics) aren't appreciated... I do sometimes like to look at some encounters in detail. (Either to learn what others are doing, to see what the "tactical challenge" encounters are like, and sometimes just for pure entertainment.)

Hear, hear.  Kipling's sentiment was:
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same
I don't think this means that you should be indifferent to failure.  However, it shouldn't affect what you otherwise want to do.  As corey_russell said one of the nice things about this thread is that it provides a focus that can help you with this.

 Alora.
Posted Image
Back in the saddle...:P

Here's her first post HD failure fight: Suna Seni. Everthing went according to plan here. No injuries.

As the slavers approached, Alora was Hidden in Shadows.
Posted Image

She activated her Air Control Ring, cast Draw on Holy Might, and then got in position behind Suna and near the Slaver Wizard.

Suna took a nasty smack from the Staff of Striking (not a critical).
Posted Image

Alora immediately used her aura to bake the Slaver Wizard, then circled north.
Posted Image
Posted Image

Just Eldarin left by the time the Potion of Firebreath expired. Guess what happened to him?
Posted Image

Fin!

Best,

A.

Btw. Alora's current inventory.

 Quick Note on Alora's Game:

Alora is nearly ready to leave Athkatla. She'll be heading to Trademeet. I'll post on her adventures there fairly soon.

I love the way you can use Ag's Scorcher (or even better, a Wand of Fire) to make a flame ray then move around to toast your opponents! Very satisfying.

Your post is, naturally, a solid piece of laying down the truth.
I would just like to point out, that my response had also a second paragraph, which i encourage to consider more important than the first one. In short : My response to Gortaur had next to nothing to do with the thread as a whole, and i was just speaking about myself.

Also : Glad to see Your run back on the way! ^_^

Quick update of BlackStrider & Co

Band made their first steps in the Underdark. We helped Vithal, dried out *endless* Elemental's flow from the Portals beforehand, Viconia fried out a group of her kin (Fire Storm - ouch!), emptied the Giant Soul Gem (most of it's *inhabitants* were quite ungrateful for our help tho...) and helped my Deep Brothers with their Demon's problem. Then we washed out Kuo-Toa tunnels and now rest in my cousin's hospitable village preparing for the Beholder's Lair and Mind Flayer's City.

to be continued...
